Cool prof. who made a scary class fun and simple. Definately a must,Never a dull moment.
the class was pretty easy to get a good grade in, but he was a horrible teacher. he talks in circles, and often goes off on purposely wrong tangents just to test us, then vaguely clarifies what's right or wrong later (if anyone is still following)
He is a nice guy, but it is hard to sit through his class. He grades easy and i learned a lot. i did all my speeches the night before and got B's, so he is easy, but not interesting.
Easy class and easy going professor. Prepare for speeches a little and you'll do fine.
Great learning experience
Steven was a great guy, told alot of jokes and made speech tolerable.
Very good. you should take a class with this Professor i strongly recomand him. He knows what he is doing....
GREAT TEACHER! i loved going to that class everyday. best professor i've ever had. the best thing about him, is he gives you raw criticism, and that's the best way to learn from mistakes, and correct them. that's what i loved about the class. i would HIGHLY recommend taking this prof.
great and very supportive
Very good professor overall. He grades very easy and approchable. Highly recommended for speech class!!!!
I loved this professor! He is so helpful and I never get bored or sleepy in his class. I took him during summer at night. You will definitely learn to become a better and more organized speaker. He is clear and if you don't get at least a B, you aren't even trying or have extreme speaking anxiety! Love it!
This was an easy class. There were 5 speeches throughout the whole smester. He will tell you what you are exactly expected to do in the speech including every detail. what you need to do is just following the formate, then you'll be OK! two writing tests, middterm and final, just multiple choice Qs, so you have to read the book.
chill teacher. class is pretty straight forward. he says "in turn" alot but other than that hes an extremely experienced speaker. offers a lot of clear directions for speeches and if his guidelines are followed you will do well. totally recomend him.
Great professor. Very clear and concise. If you pay attention and listen to his critique, you will improve. If you have no spine and cannot stomach criticism, this class isn't for you; you will never improve. But if you can handle it, you will do great. Do what you're told, and you WILL get an A.
He is very clear about his assignments and he is really funny.I don't mind giving speeches so the class wasn't hard, but it may be if you get nervous in front of people.
This professor was great! I was surprised as I have taken once before and failed. He really got me through it. It you have ANY doubt about it, take him.
He is very funny. The class is fair depends on how much you like to talk in front of the class. It is a vry good ecperience to speak in front of the class. Take him, he explains well and makes the class enjoyable
he is boring and was not help full i felt like i was in elementary school!!!!
He was a cool teacher but he never laughed.
Very helpful and makes you feel comfortable in the class. I was terrified before taking this course and he helped me work through my fear with tips and tricks to get through it. He will even look over your outlines prior to turning them in to help you get a better grade. I HIGHLY reccommend him if you are fearing speech.
Had him over the winter session and got an A. Hated giving speeches in front of the class but this prof. makes it super easy. Also helps to take it over 6 wk semesters because there's fewer people/high dropout rate. Not really funny but pretty nice. Gives a lot of constructive criticism, stickler on attendance, and book is not absolutely necessary.
He was really nice, I was super nervous giving speeches but he made it pretty easy. I took the 8 week class and the only problem I had was he only writes like 3 words when you ask him a question in an email. Overall a good experience.
Made speech easy. Covered all the material in textbook, but textbook not necessarily necessary. Just do as he says and make sure to keep your speeches within his time frame or else he really docks you.
I was quite scared of this class since I'm very timid and have issues opening up to others due to past instances. He made things comfortable and I oddly enjoyed being in it. I feel like I can express myself a bit more to people now after completing this course, and he was very helpful. Follow his steps and you'll do fine.
He is extremely helpful and is open to any questions. His test are a bit tricky, but overall, he is a good professor, and he made it comfortable for everyone and it made going up in front of the class much easier than before I enetered.
Teacher is VERY clear in his teachings. But, he is VERY hard in grading speeches. No grace period on timings. Plus his requirements for visual is crazy; not keeping slide up while taking. You need to show up to class. Take notes and be sure to READ the books. His lecture is directly from book. Tests come straight from book, not notes.
Hard Teacher. But you learn a lot. Strict guidelines for speeches. Obey time time limits. Impromptu speech was tough. Go to class. He likes to give extra credit points when the attendance is low. Don't be late for class. He will lock you out. If your cell phone rings during class you will be asked to leave.
this professor is very clear on what he expects for each and every speech. As you should with all your classes, follow the guidlines and ask questions when needed. he is very helpful in answering questions. Dont be a one of those students who makes a fool out of themselves when doing speeches. In order to sound educated you must get educated!!!!
his class is easy but it was SOOOOO boring. i took his for voice and diction. we spent a lot of time in the computer lab enunciating words. i'd recommend this class only if you have problems speaking english, otherwise just go straight to speech 1A.
He is a very good speech teacher. Everything that you need to do is laid out in the syllabus. Make sure that you time your speeches before class. Do not read word for word from your note cards. When you use a powerpoint put blank slides in between your pictures, and switch to the blank slides if not discussing. DO NOT USE A LOT OF TEXT IN SLIDES.
Very easy if you read text. He teaches very clear and interesting. Just don't be late.
Very organized instructor. be sure to complete everything on time, no excuses for not being there on time. He docks points for late and absences. Don't learn the hard way like I did. Be on time and read !
The best professor I've had in a long time. The syllabus is written in stone. Don't be late. Don't be absent. Do bring your A game. He says it's not a competition, but it's hard to achieve his standards and not be a little competitive. Great overall experience. Great sense of accomplishment. Go Team Steve!
Awesome teacher! So clear in what needs to be done. Took over summer and I would def. recommend it!
he's amazing. work hard and do what he says and you'll get an A. it's intimidating at first but stick it out, it gets easier!! follow his rules and ask for help when needed. i wish i took this class sooner. be careful when using words "um" or "like" in your speeches!!! he docks down! got A's on all my speeches though. would take this again with him
Public Speaking is horrifying for me (ADHD & anxiety). This prof makes it tolerable. He is very clear in what he expects in every speech and in the class. Do exactly what he says and you will get a great grade. Exams are straight from the book-not the lectures, read it! Pick a HARD worker for the partnered speech- graded together. Highly recommend.
Professor Steve is awesome! Funny, personable, and engaging. He makes speech seem less scary and will be your best cheer leader along the way. He is an extremely fair grader but do NOT say "um," "you know," or "like" in your speeches--he'll ding you. Watch your time and do not go over! I would highly recommend this professor. He's one of the BEST!
structured class, but he's pretty boring. not a lot of group work, okay amount of reading. tests/assignments are easy. i recommend you don't take interpersonal communication unless you're a communications major. but it is an easy A
This class was awful. As a speech teacher he was terrible at speaking in class. He had awkward pauses, gasps for breath and lack of conviction. He was ill prepared. Did not have time cards when students gave speeches. All he taught was word for word out of the book. He could not keep control of his class. Each class was a waste of time. Awful.
Professor Steve may have had pauses times when he expected us to have an answer. But, in the end, his class was totally worth taking. The class and i learned a lot and had a lot of respect for him as he did for us. If i could, i would take his class again.
Professor Steve Nahabedian was a cool teacher. Talks a lot and talks very loud, but he makes sure that he teaches us exactly what we need to know. Lectures are fun especially the group activities portions and tests are fairly easy given that you took notes and studied them.
He is kind of odd and his sarcastic humor can be offensive at times. For the most part he is a good professor. Homework is not that difficult and tests are based on PowerPoint notes and some book stuff.
Gave a clear outline for how all speeches should be. 5 speeches total but you become comfortable with the class as the semester goes. He knows when you've practiced and hasn't. Practice, practice, practice! I'm a shy girl and hate public speaking but became easier as speeches went on.
He was such a helpful teacher, specially with how scary this class is! Makes his lectures fun and he is hilarious! I recommend him! (:
Steve is really an excellent Speech professor. His class really makes you feel comfortable. I took the Winter course, and although it was daunting doing almost a speech a week, it was not as bad as you think it would be. Watch out for your time! He doesn't allow time cards. Avoid um's. I recommend him to everyone!
Great professor! Very professional! Amazing speech teacher! No weekly tests/quizzes. Very wise and cares for his students! Best speech teacher ever! Must take his speech class!
He let's you chose the topic of your speech. Don't worry if your a slacker, don't take notes, or do lousy on your speeches because apparently you'll still get a B. Man, so many failures in that class, but everyone passed lol. Great guy. No complaints.
good professor
Good professor. He offered extra credit. His lecture is easy. If you cannot get A, that's your fault. You will learn a lot.
Professor N is a very clear cut and direct person. He tells you exactly what he wants and how to do so which translates to an easier more conceptual class. He is strict on attendance and its best you're there because his lectures are important. Overall if you follow what he says exactly you can get a well deserved easy A. Extra credit is offered.
He is a great professor. Cares for his students. The best thing about his speeches is he allows you to choose your own topic, which is super. There are two written exams (multiple choice). The main scoring is your speeches. He is very prompt with grading and gives lots of in-class activity with points. I took his summer class, Take his class.
Alright, so Steve is super scary when you first meet him, he unloads everything on you right off the bat. I almost dropped him. But throughout the semester, class was very engaging and Steve gave great feedback. You just need to be willing to work for your grade. He's a good guy and wants everyone to succeed. It's the true definition of tough love.
I took interpersonal communication and it was my favorite class of the semester. If you read the chapters and pay attention in class you will do great. Hes a great teacher and gives great lectures.
I took his class this winter semester. Professor Steven is really caring and patient. He explained every question I had and he tried to help me as much as he can. He tried to make the lectures as interesting as possible and I didn't feel 3 hours lecture was long. It was so nice of him offering us snacks. Take his class, you would love it.
Great professor, highly recommend. I brought my laptop to take notes. If you want an A, be sure to study. Those exams are the most important part of your grade.
Prof Steve is my favorite professor on the Mt Sac campus. When it comes to speeches he is a tough but very fair grader. Just be prepared because he has been teaching long enough to know if you're not.
Pay attention and follow guidelines and you will pass. The lectures are concise and informative but you should read too. Only 2 written exams, the midterm and final (both are multiple choice).
IPC is one of the most relevant classes at Mt. Sac. It is a must-take class to improve interpersonal communications and emotional intelligence. Completing all assigned homework on time is a MUST to pass this class. The professor is very supportive and provides excellent lectures, but strict on missing deadlines. Be sure to read the syllabus.
Has obvious grading criteria that are usually consistent if you're missing something, he'll make sure to address it so you can improve on your next speech. Make sure to pay attention to his lectures because they will be on the exams and make sure to read the textbook, we got it for free because he digitally provided it for us. PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH!
I took him for winter session and omg he is the best, super fun to learn from and he genuinely wants his students to succeed. Gives extra credit and is very clear on what he wants from you. He works to get u caught up if u miss class but make sure u have a valid excuse lol. He as a teacher somehow can get you excited to learn at 7:30am. Def Recomen
Steve is a cool guy, he wants you to succeed but you definitely need to be there for lecture because he lectures the text book, so much so I don't really think you need the text. He is really nice, tries to make things fun to learn, and is very fair. Overall I recommend him.
Prof. Steve is clear and to the point as far as his teaching structure goes. You must put in the work for your grade. Every bit of your effort will make a difference, so don't drop the ball! This class was 6 weeks short, so I have higher hopes for an A grade during a full-term semester. Overall, Steve is a fair grader and I do recommend his class.
By far best professor Ive had in college.
Steve Is an amazing guy and an amazing professor, if reassurance is what you are looking for, I hope you found it. He speaks very passionate about what he teaches and ultimately makes you earn your grade, which I can say is the only difficult character about him. He is willing to work with you if you do your part. 100% recommend this professor.
I would take again and reccomend prof. Nahabedian for anybody taking a speech/communication class at Mt. Sac. I took Speech 1A with him, it was a pleasure. He lays out clearly what you need to know for exams + even some exact questions that he's going to put on exams to incentivize students coming to class lectures + speeches are graded generously.
Professor Nahabedian is one of the best professor I ever took at Mt sac.
Tests are worth so much. No extra credit is given. make sure to read the book and take notes of it as well as of his lectures. His tests are worded SO tricky as classmates and I agreed. He does not give any homework to make sure you're on the right track. midterm and final and thats it. He's weird.
2 tests, midterm and final. worth a good chunk of overall grade, but there are other assignments. I bombed my midterm and still managed to get an A by Acing my final. He himself is a little bit weird. i didnt enjoy lectures very much and wont be taking him again but its a relatively easy class if you read, take notes, and study. SLOW GRADER.
Exceptional lectures, pay attention and you'll perform well. Many assignments don't have clear instructions. This makes grading criteria unclear, often resulting in points deducted without a clear reason why. Canvas is not utilized, difficult to keep track of due dates. Tendency to make students uneasy. Passionate & kind teacher, rough execution.
Class is lecture based, professor is a decent lecturer, organized powerpoints, and plenty of time to take notes on each page. Execution and performance of lectures tend to become uncomfortable for students, and many questions you ask will be redirected due to a "touchy" topic, despite constant use of similar topics, with less discretion.
Very easy class, as long as you pay attention to his lectures you will have a easy time.
Steve is awesome, he makes grading criteria clear answers any questions quickly. In regards to some reviews on here, Steve makes it clear lectures are review of chapter reading so tests are book not lecture based. This is an interpersonal comms class so there will be uncomfortable topics. But not once has Steve ever been inappropriate with anyone.
Class is lecture-based, pay attention and take notes and you will do well. While lectures are performed excellently, some terminology, mannerisms, and examples used by the professor have a tendency to make students feel uncomfortable. Assignments aren't given clear instructions which cause confusion, and canvas is barely utilized.
A really great professor who is passionate about what he talks about. The textbook is on canvas so don't worry about buying a textbook for Speech1A. He cares about his students passing just make sure you practice your speeches if you need help ask. At times he jokes around and is funny at times, also take him during the winter semester!
Overall he is a good professor and points out what he expects from us. Makes us as a whole analyze our mistakes and helps you out when needed. You can pass the class with a A as long as you do the reading and prepare for assignments with time.
Professor Steve is one of the best professors I've ever had he was caring and made the speeches fun.
The speeches are easy you just need to practice it. He provides the textbook for you. The tests are easy as well if you study since he goes over everything you need.
In my experience, the lectures were too easy. The questions on the exams always seemed to have multiple correct answers, however, there was only one. Professor Nahabedian may joke around a bit too much and can make the learning atmosphere a bit uncomfortable and/or unpleasant. Exams will have a heavy weight on your final grade.
Absolutely one of the best professors at Mt. SAC! He REALLY wanted you to succeed and was available outside of class for printing assignments. He even had a snack bar for students during break time! No professor has ever done that kind act, and the feedback I received on numerous speeches benefited me greatly. He's also super hilarious!
I took this professor over the summer and his class was so easy. He is a very caring professor and wants everyone to pass. His in class workshops for speech preparations are so helpful. He gives good feedback and is always willing to help you out.
I was originally excited to take this class after reading about him here, however he was very passive aggressive and made jokes that made people feel called out specifically. He had created an environment where I, personally, felt unable to ask questions. Others loved him so I guess it depends on if he clicks with you better.
I recently completed a course with Professor Steve Nahabedian, and he is an excellent professional. I learned many real-world skills in his challenging and professional class. Speaking in front of other students helped me overcome my fears and gain confidence. I didn't find his jokes offensive; with a growth mindset, they help you to improve.
His class is easy if you do your work and pay attention on what you need to do for your speeches. He is funny and can be a little mean but it's hilarious. Attendance matters due to participation and group work. Easy points. I enjoyed his class; it helped me with my anxiety and I'm able to walk in front of audience giving them eye contact.
I took Professor Steve's class at 7:30 am during the spring semester. Despite the early hour, I never felt tired because he made the class engaging and interesting. He always had a positive and great attitude when it came to teaching. He always showed the students he was listening during presentations by smiling and nodding which helped me greatly!
Professor Steve is respectful, caring, and overall a great professor. He provides you with the textbook for free in canvas. Exams are mostly about the book, but take notes, helped me. His assignments were easy and clear. My lowest speech score was an 88/100. Just make sure to prepare with enough time and DONT PROCRASTINATE!
It's a very nice class! There was an online textbook, but if you listened to his lectures enough you'd be getting at least seventy percent of what the textbook has to offer. While he does have quizzes, most don't affect you by much and a good chunk is by doing the speeches and lectures. All the speech topics were chosen by me, which helped a lot.
Prof Steve is super amazing. He lectured in a way everyone understands. Your grade mainly depends on your speeches and they're very doable(you're allowed a flashcard). Everything you do in class is super helpful for the actual speech itself. Do not procrastinate, it will not end well. Overall such a great professor to take!
He is a very caring professor. He will remind you what you need to do next, which is usually very simple and you can easily get a high score as long as you pay attention.
Very nice and fun class! Class is fairly easy as long as you're present. I 100% recommend.
Prof Steve makes the class less intimidating than speech is thought to be. There are multiple speeches to be done (and in a short time frame during summer - 1 speech per week), but are easy if you can manage time, remember your writing, and write good on note cards.
Professor Nahabedian's class is very easy and straightforward when it came to homework, tests, and speeches. It is clear from the get-go that he is very passionate about what he does, so don't come into this thinking that by doing the bare minimum, you will get an A. You won't. But by taking the time to grow from his advice, you will pass easily!
He is an amazing professor. His class is easy and straightforward; he will always remind you of upcoming assignments and what is next. The effort you put into his class is directly related to the grade you will receive, but as long as you present, you will be good.
prof steve is the man
