He is very nice :) If you are concerned about his lecture, you will get A ! I am an international student, but I can understand his lecture well. His lecture was easy and helpfull becuase of many examples :) If you want to know basic of sociology, you have to take his class !

He's a new guy that really has a fire in him to teach. He really tries which in turn makes him look like a veteran professor. I must say hes extremely caring and will do everything in his power to help. He keeps it interesting and gives vivid examples, excellent for the test. He is full of surprises..seems very easy and you may think youve got it down but when it comes to the exam your in for a surprise...on the other hand he gives plenty of extra credit to make up for his out of no where questions..read and study everything he says he wont ask certain questions on the exam but study anyway cause he will ask.

Very nice and cooperative guy, tests were very easy, essays were kind of a pain when looked at but when began writing, you just keep writing and writing. Didnt open my text once and got 5 points away from a perfect score. A+ teacher

You have 3 tests and a final exam, as well as couple of essay assignments, VERY VERY simple, and he does not expect you to write million pages. take him for sure!!

Parker is the best professor ever! He loves his subject and is very passionate! He cares very much about his students and is very understanding. His tests are based on his notes and a little bit of critical thinking! Very easy if you listen in class. He is also very willing to answer any questions, any time. I learned so much in his class!

i took this class thinking the subject would be boring and anoying, Mr.Parker made this subject very intresting. i got an A in the class with A's on all the tests, essayz and final, THE BEST TEACHER. (if you cant learn from lecture and notes i wouldn't recommend this teacher)

Mr parker is a great fun teacher. sociology seems like a class that might not be interesting but he makes it a class you like. he is funny and real. if you ever have a question he will always answer it for you. i took his class over summer and it was super easy! take it!

OMG. he is amazing. offers extra credit, the assignments are easy and you dont really need your book. its all from your notes. so try to keep up with attendance because everything you will find is in the notes. hes really cool.

I took him in the summer. Best teacher I could've asked for to see three hours a day, four days a week! I would take him again if he was teaching other classes. He's keeps class interactive and interesting. He's extremely nice and will work with you. I also learned a lot in his class.

he's pretty cool. i guess i got an A so that means he was a pretty good teacher but we had to do reading separtely from the notes, and his writing assignments took a long time to write, and his tests were pretty hard. overall sociology is a very interesting class and everyone will love ths subject. If you're looking for an easy A. Not the class for you. He responds his emails. His notes are pretty clear, you really need to study for the exams if you want to pass. His a great teacher, intelligent, and nice.

Pretty decent class and guy. I did pretty well (A) with moderate studying. He is a pretty interesting speaker, but beware if you have conservative ideas. He's a bit to the left.

This class was definately not easy. The tests are difficult and the subject is boring, which makes it even harder. Steve is a nice guy, but he does not grade easily on essays! Just know that you have to write extremely well. Like the other comments said, yes he is very leftist!

GREAT TEACHER. I wish he teaches more classes. During lecture he uses examples from his life which make the subject easier for you to understand. I found the way he teaches to be very helpful. Thanks Mr. Parker. You are a great person.

Parker's class is not easy, but you will learn a lot. You need to read and come ready to discuss ideas. He answers emails quickly and is very helpful. (Rating below H=2 is not true!) Students who can't write and think critically, or who aren't interested in politics and social justice will probably not like this class.

This class was definitely not easy, but not too hard. Come to class everyday ready to take notes and get involved in lectures. Study based on the quick review he does the day before the tests and you will do fine! Make sure to know each sociologist & what they studied and when-that information is DEFINITELY on the test even though he says it isn't.

He will make sure everyone understands the concepts and material and will not hesitate to stay on a topic if someone needs help. Easy to get a hold of, usually responds to emails within hours. I can see how people can think his tests are hard, but they are not extremely difficult. You just have to take what you know, and think about it.

This guy is great. He manages to go out of his way to help individuals without being unfair. Just enough personal life exposition to bring interest to the class without boring you with a life story. Everyone else said it but it's true he really wants you to succeed in terms of knowledge as well as grade. Hard to recommend him enough, he's great.

I am still currently taking this teacher and I'll be done in 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure I have a B in the class. He is extremely helpful if you need/want it. You can always email him ur papers and he will proof read it for u,& he checks his emails super fast. Pretty easy teacher. Read the chpts before a quiz and you'll do good, lots of extra credit!

Steve is a very helpful teacher! I took the hybrid class and it was his first time teaching it. The class was easy as long as you pay attention and write notes. Also make sure you read the text! The class consisted of a midterm, online quizzes, question and response blogs, 2 group assignments, and a final which was an in class essay.

Show up and take thorough notes just the way he writes them on the board. Participate with an interested attitude. The book was helpful, but 98.6% of the exam material comes from his lectures. One essay paper that he very well prepares you for, and Scantron tests with only a few essay questions- sometimes as extra credit only. Recommend him!

Steve is awesome!!! He will go above and beyond to help you do your best in his class, just make sure he sees that you're trying. If you want an A, you should use moodle and do the quizzes online because they will help you A LOT on the test, which are not that easy I warn you. You really have to study and do your part, that's how i got an A :)

He is very clear in subject. His lectures are understandable. If you attend the class take all the note you would for sure get an A.we passed 2 in class 1 final and at the end we Assigned a paper. If you take all his nots and hand out you would be fine.he is so nice person.

Steve is a GREAT instructor. He's extremely helpful, approachable, and highly recommended! There's a lot of reading involved for Soc 101, so be prepared. Your effort will reflect your grade in the class. Involves 2 papers, 2 tests, and a final. It could be a bit overwhelming because there's a lot of content (lots of notes and reading) involved.

He is one of the best professors I've had. His grading is extremely fair and getting an A is not at all out of reach. He gives weekly quizzes on the reading, but only counts the 5 highest scores. Midterm, final, & course paper. He's a great teacher and you should definitely take his class.

I absolutely adore this teacher. I read every single chapter with enjoyment and the book is easy to understand. He's very understanding and knows what he's talking about. There are about 10 quizzes total and he lets you keep the highest 5. One midterm one final (both written). Amazing teacher. Take him and you won't regret it. -HB

I loove Mr. Parker! He is one of the nicest instructors and makes Sociology extremely fun. I wanted to go to class everyday (even tho it was at 9:10 on FRIDAYS) so that tells you a lot! He is willing to help you understand any difficult concepts, has a great textbook and is hella funny! Take him!

Not an easy class. Hard tests, but Mr. Parker provides lecture slides on Moodle and is very helpful. Answers all emails super quick and reads drafts to help you get a good grade on the class paper. Recommend!

It's not an easy class because there's a lot of material to study. However, if you put some effort into studying and go to class you will probably get a good grade. He is very helpful and teaches well.

Professor Parker is a great professor. He knows what hes talking about and he constantly endeavors during his lectures for the students to learn. Take his class if you want to get your money's worth and learn something useful in life.

His lectures are all on power points. He tells you EXACTLY what he is looking for on the test, but he still grades hard on the essay portions of the test. He curves a lot at the end, and if you email him, he will really help you out. Don't take this class if you think you're going to show up only half the time, you won't pass.

Overall, good and interesting prof. Some lectures are a bit dry. Good, cheap textbook. Easy to contact via email and worth taking. Recommend!

His tests are not really that easy...even though i studied hard. just pay attention during lecture and write down notes other than whats on the powerpoint because some conversation stuff isn't in the powerpoint. He is nice though. if you show effort and show you care he starts giving you extra points on tests and overall!!

I wish every professor provided study guides as great as his--exactly what's on the exam. There's no way you can get lower than an A or a B if you're always present & put in an hour before the exam. His lectures are clear and he gives great examples for complex concepts. I wasn't looking forward to a 3-hour Friday night class but it was fantastic!

I was really scared of this class I thought I was not doing good because I was so intimidated of the social theories but he was such a good helpful teacher any question you had he would answer! Its not that bad when you read all the chapters and go by the studies guides do that and you'll get an A he's awesome! :)

He is a good professor he really love his major and is very passionate, the worst part about his class is the exams, his exams are extremelyyyyyyy hard, I studied very hard in his class but I wasn't very successful. If you don't care about your GPA and you just want to learn something about sociology go for him.

One of my favorite professors of all time, people are saying his tests are hard, but they really are not, just learn your vocabulary form the book and pay attention in class. He makes lecture not only bearable but fun, and responds quickly to emails and is always willing to help you out if you seek it.

Interesting and pretty fun class. Mr. Parker is very helpful and does things like reads drafts of papers, holds moodle chats the night before exams, and answers emails within a few hours or less. I took him for 101 too and would recommend him, especially to soc majors.

Sweet, funny, helpful. Write down all the notes he writes on the board, don't skip class (one class period is 3 hours long with a lot of info!), and don't talk in class. At the end of the night, it gets harder to pay attention because lectures are long, but try your best! He cares about your grades and allows you to email him with any questions.

All the lectures are clear with lots of funny and educational stories. Uses PP, but explains very well. A bit hard on grading the FRQ on the tests but if you know the material and do the quizzes that he puts online you will pass with A or B. Listen to what he says & copy notes from the board they will help on the test. Would take him again.

I took his sociology 103 class and that was one of the best decisions I made. I'm not very interested in the justice system but Parker made it very interesting. There's one paper, 4 exams. Go to class because he pays attention to who shows up and who doesn't. Overall, this class was great

If you're looking for a good quality prof who is grounded in theory and can guide you through an entire semester, look no further. If you cannot land in his class, take Kamei. SP gives excellent lectures, uses detailed PP, is there for his students, and provides organized notes which you must use for the test, so be studious and write them down!

If you learn best by interacting with other students this class is not for you. This class is pure lecture and will have absolutely no contact with another human in there. I love the fact that it is like this. I think its awesome.

Attendance is mandatory because 90% of the exams are based on his notes. The book supplements and clarifies his notes. My best advice- use flash cards. This class is pure memorization. If you want an A, take clear and precise notes . Very nice and friendly man.

All you have to do is show up to class and take GOOD notes! all his tests are based off of his lectures. No textbook needed. Final is not cumulative, it is like a regular test. One 3 page research paper, three tests, and a final. All weighted equally. He is very caring and clear. Take him! I only studied the day before the test and got an A.

Mr. Parker is very passionate about Sociology. I learned a lot in this class, He's very funny and opened up my mind to various social problems in society. His grading rubric consists of 4 exams and a paper. The exams aren't difficult and he doesn't try to trick you. Take detailed notes during class and you will get a good grade on the exams.

Truly my favorite teacher on campus. Mr. Parker is completely passionate about sociology and seeing his students succeed. Show him you care and put in the work and it'll be a breeze. Mr. Parker is an awesome teacher. He helps you if you are having trouble understanding something, you just have to ask. Very kind and humble. Definitely take him. Not sure why anyone would rate Parker "poor." He's better than average at GCC. If you're used to having your hand held, getting to earn 30% of your grade as fluff extra credit, and/or you have a short attention span and don't read, don't take him. Otherwise, if you work hard and participate in class discussions, you'll do fine!

Mr. Parker is an amazzzzing teacher! Don't know about other classes, but our's had quizzes with the lowest 3 dropped and an easy paper. I was 7 points from an A and he scaled me up for my perfect attendance and class participation.

Hes very entertaining. Even if you don't like sociology he'll keep you engaged and keep you laughing. His class isn't an easy A, but he makes it very clear on how you can get an A.

He is a very generous person with a kind heart. His teaching style made me be more organized. There are 7 quizzes and 2 test and one final exam which are not hard if you study from his lectures. There is no question from the book. All test questions are from his lecture. Quizzes are from the book and lecture. his class chnaged my life. Thank you!

I would recommend to record his lectures and go home type on your computer everything he said and then print them. I did that for every lecture and when he gave us a superb study guides, I took my printed lectures and found all the material that was on the tests and I earned A. When he gives essay questions will explain all that you have to know.

Good lectures making the class less boring. I'm not into Soc, but have to take the class. Def a lot of reading & memorization & applications. Not an easy A class, def have to work for it. Most students earn B's from his test scores postings. He cares and is accessible outside of class. Gives good feedback until you understand what you're asking.

Best professor at GCC, makes GCC look good. He appreciates participation and encourages questions from students. He can be a bit all over the place occ but that's what makes the course fun. You would be considered fortunate, blessed, lucky to have him as a professor. Just don't talk during class or leave early! He respects those that respect him.

Introduction to Deviance/Criminology was very interesting. Lectures and videos were very informative. He is very clear about what he expects from his student's. He will explain and answer any questions you may have. Great class!

He is a good professor however do NOT take him if you want an easy A in Sociology. He makes you work for a good grade and you actually need to study for the tests in order to do well (they can be pretty tricky). Take him if you are majoring in Sociology cuz you will learn a lot. I loved Professor Parker's class. I took it over a year ago and it still stands out as one of the best classes I've taken at GCC. He integrates really compelling videos into his lectures and urges you think about things in a different way. I would highly recommend this class!

Mr. Parker is a great professor! He's very helpful and answers emails quickly. Easy writing assignments, but exams are a little tough. Don't listen to "I get straight A's but can't even use grammar properly," as he or she is just mad they didn't earn a top grade. A is very attainable. B would be a cakewalk!

His online class is disorganized compared to most of my other online classes. You suspect this is his first time doing it due to COVID and was unfortunately rushed into attempting to. Has a lot to learn about organizing an online class with canvas. He grades harder than my 104 professor did on essays.

Taken during COVID, His soothing voice was always a pleasure to listen to. He's REALLY smart, pretty funny, and the lectures were engaging. Tests are given weekly, but they aren't too hard if you thoroughly read through the free textbook he offers. Some of the material/concepts can be tough, though, so ask questions and he'll explain perfectly.

I can't imagine a better remote learning experience. The lectures and power points are clear and concise. Very well organized. Very clear expectations. He is fun and funny and always responds quickly to emails. If you are in the lecture, you will do well on the tests because they are so good. I plan to take another class of his I liked it so much.

Looked forward to the evening classes. Even though it was a condensed summer class (M,T,W,Thur) I never felt rushed or overloaded with work. Pacing was good and there was time for discussion. You will have to read/take notes if you want a good grade, which I think is pretty obvious, and it's a must that you read/watch the extras he posts to canvas.

Very funny teacher, his classes are always fun and you never get tired if you like sociology you will find this course very inspiring and professional. Definitely taking his classes again. 100% recommend.

Soc 103 is a very interesting class and Prof does an amazing job teaching it. He is very respectable and the format of the class is great. His class is straightforward and you will really enjoy it. The workload is super manageable as well. I would highly recommend him and would definitely take another class by him. Good luck!

Mr. Parker's class is so informative and engaging. You have to show up and you have to take notes. The exams are open note so make sure to pay attention and take good notes but it's all there. You learn a lot and have opportunities for good discussion. Not much out of class work, quizzes and short assignments occasionally. 10/10!

He's a cool understanding guy who you can tell is passionate about sociology. The exams are hard if you take notes on a laptop or ipad considering you wont be able to use any devices on the exams. They also have a written portion. But there was only 1 big assignment and weekly quizzes so not much homework. He is also easy to talk to and humorous

Steve is the best! The class I took was 3.5 hours & it felt like a breeze. He will make you keep wanting more. He plays a lot of videos regarding important issues around the world. Make sure you attend class & take good notes during his lectures. If you do this & follow along with the textbook, you will get an A & leave with a lot of knowledge.

Fantastic professor! His lectures are thorough and interesting, and he's very passionate about sociology. He lets you use your notes (no devices, though) on the exam, but they're still challenging (5-6 short answer Qs, 2 long answer Qs: questions are given ahead of time but you must be thorough and use original examples in your answers).

Mr. Parker is kind of traditional in his approach. Lectures alot, but wants students to jump in and ask/answer questions. Does a few group discussions and occasionally shows videos to give examples of concepts. He doesn't teach the text, so if you don't attend and participate the tests will be pretty hard.

Steve's class was my first going back into college & I loved it! Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory but his tests are very lecture heavy so it helps being present. He is very flexible and communicative + tries to work out a solution if you aren't doing well accademically. He is always open to questions & explains concepts clearly.

Professor Parker is fantastic. My class only met once a week so there were 3 hour lectures but they always flew by really fast. Very understanding and good with accommodations. He sometimes does short writing assignments on the assigned reading at the beginning of class, so make sure you do the homework and show up on time. 100% would take again!

All you need to do is show up to class every week and be on time then you will get an A.

Professor Parker is very kind and helpful, and the SOC 101 is easy to pass. That being said, you DO need to show up for lectures, as all of his exams are based on the notes you take during lectures. Honestly, as long as you show up and pay attention to his lectures, ask questions, and write the course final paper well; you'll easily get an A.

Professor Parker's SOC101 class is engaging and informative. Attendance is mandatory, but the open-note exams make it worthwhile. Lectures can be heavy, but using tools like Unstuck study alongside the textbook helps ace the material. Overall, a solid sociology course.

He was very passionate about his class and didn't mind explaining things as many times as necessary. He was also very very nice and would make jokes often !

Loved his class! He is very funny and teaches the class where it doesn't even feel like a class, it feels like he's just having a conversation with everyone. He is very passionate about what he teaches, and it is contagious. Would 100% recommend his class. For book, I'm not sure, but I vaguely remember it being online.

Excellent prof. Knowledgeable + funny. Wants to see students understand competing sociological theories + apply them to real-world issues. Memorizing + repeating back is not enough; You must apply theories + critique how well they do, or don't, explain real world. Gritty realism; not an ivory tower academic. (Also teaches criminology.) Take him!
