Steve was a bit unorganized and all over the place with lectures, but his class was good. Fun labs and easy to pass class if you pay attention. He offers office hours and lecture videos to help. He doesn't really answer emails which is a pain, so ask questions in person if possible. Super nice and is willing to help with any confusion.

The problems on his quizzes and exams mirror the ones he does in class which makes it easy to know what problems to look to do when studying. Personally I greatly meshed with his lecture style and Steve made it very easy to digest the material. If things need to change during the quarter he makes sure that it won't hurt the students.

The lectures were pretty unclear and unorganized. Took forever for him to grade any labs or homework. He only teaches one way and makes people feel dumb when they ask him questions.

Steve is a great proff!! I really enjoyed his lectures, he makes sure that everyone understands a topic before moving on. He didn't grade any labs till the end of the quarter, but everything else was graded quickly. He has one homework assignment a week, a pre/post lab, and some weeks a quiz. He grades a bit harshly on labs. Great class overall!!

Graded finals wrong, I've seen other people not even get their final graded until the next semester. Only teaches 1 way, still missing a grade from a lab and a prelab from last semester. The book is actually useless. Half the time what's taught in the class isn't on the test or the quizzes. Overall a miserable experience. 0/10

His class is super disorganized. You will not receive your grade even if the assignment was taken in the past weeks, meaning you can't improve yourself with his feedback. You'll develop all by yourself which is sucks. He is a good person but lazy at the same time. If you need a CHEM class, go with others. EvCC has much better instructor than him.

Steve is a caring and energetic professor who is passionate about chemistry. He is a unique person who is fun, which can make lectures exciting, but he also sometimes struggles to answer questions, especially if they are more theoretical. Overall though, he did a great job of teaching the required material and managing stress in the classroom.

Steve has mastered teaching chem. If you come to class you dont need to read the (open source)textbook. He really cares about you understanding what he is teaching, he asks the class many questions and provides a safe environment for asking those questions. DO ALL PRACTICE PROBLEMS HE GIVES YOU! You must study the concepts at home to succeed

Steve is a great professor, very willing to help and encouraging. Attending lectures is important for this class, it will be confusing if you don't. quizzes almost every week but they're similar to practice problems we do during class.

Strap in and hold on. I took CHEM161 as a six week class. Oops. It turned out well, but felt like I was drinking through a firehose. Steve's teaching style is quick, and he expects you to do the heavy lifting. All in all he is a good teacher.

I personally didn't like the class as it was primarily graded on testing. We tested weekly. There was very little homework and labs were worth very little points. The only way to get a good grade in this class is to get an A or B on every quiz and final.

His lectures are good. On the exams/quizzes,...he can give you extra credits if possible; however, beware of sig fig questions, although he already warned in class that he would deduct your points if you round them wrong. Everything else is great, it doesn't too bad to me, just practice given extra problems for the exams.

Steve Powell is an eccentric science teacher. He is boisterous but extremely thorough. He writes his own test questions, and his lectures are relevant. He is not a "read the book yourself" professor which is awesome. In order to pass with a decent grade, you NEED to attend lectures (even if they aren't mandated). And study. Fantastic teacher 10/10

Steven is an amazing chemist instructor. He is by far the most passionate teacher I've met at EvCC. Steven knows his stuff. Chemistry is a hard subject no matter where you take it but Steven made himself available before and after class for extra help. He breaks down everything and explains it to you very well. Definitely recommend.

This teacher can be tough to have at times, especially when asking for help. He can be slightly passive-aggressive when you're unsure about how to solve the material. One frustrating thing is that he doesn't have any extra credit options, and late work is marked zero. Also, weekly pop quizzes. He doesn't want to help students succeed to be fair

Steve was great! He can be a bit all over the place, but always makes sure you understand. If you go to class and study you will be fine. If you leave it to the last minute or goof off, you won't. It's chemistry, not a simple subject. Weekly quizzes and homework are very helpful to keep you on top of things.
