He has a great teaching style. The book was helpful for homework. He doesn't take attendance but knows who is coming to class. His test questions come straight from homework so if you do the homework you can pass the class.

Mr. Purtee is probably the best math teacher I have ever had. He has no problem going over things in class if you don't understand. He is definitely the only reason I passed considering how horrible I am at math :) I wish he taught more lower math classes because I would take him again in a heartbeat!

I'm taking him right now, he is a perfectly fine mathmatics professor. He teaches in a crystal clear format, without non essential BS added in. If you have a question, you should ask it, and he WILL work with you until you get it. I think the only people that have issues here are those that don't ask for help. This isnt high school.

Mr. Purtee is extremely helpful when he is explaining any new material. Everything presented is very clear and if you dont understand he will help you until you do. He was always on time and gave lots of opportunities to do extra credit. I took this course in 6 weeks and was able to pass, anyone taking this class for a full semester should not have

I just finished his class today. He is an excelent teacher, very good at explaining things to people who do not understand. He is a more than fair grader, and invests alot of personal time to make sure his students succeed (staying late etc). Best math teacher at VCC

EASY tests. Purtee is a great math professor. He actually wants you to learn so he goes to great lengths to help you out. - The homework is done online and you barely use the book. Steve Purtee IS AWESOME I hate math but I loved coming to his class he is a GREAT professor really works with his students until we GET IT !!! Attendance isnt mandatory but he knows whether you are there or not. He also offered a lot of extra credit so going to class all the time paid off. I registerd for my next math class with him! Great teacher. Took him for Calc2 at UCF. Tells you what to study, what will be on the test, and tries to help as much as possible. Shows clear examples and does any problems the class is having trouble on. Funny joke too.

Great teacher. Took for Calc for Business Students. Explains everything way better than the book does. The homework is harder than the examples done in class, so that's frustrating, but the test questions are relatively simple examples of the concept. Keep up with the homework and he is very patient answering in-class questions.

There is A LOT of homework, but it isn't hard. He is a really laid back guy and will help you with anything you need. He never takes attendance. The tests are easy if you go over the study guides. He doesn't use the text book, just an online site called CourseCompass or MyMathLab that you have to register for that costs $80. I recommend this class!

His teaching style suited me well, and I believe if I wasn't having family emergencies at the end of the term, I definitely would have an A, because he is very clear and so helpful. TAKE HIM.

Just completed his class over the summer. I was not looking forward to Trig because I am terrible at math. He is super passionate about math and assigns ALOT of hw. honestly the hw helped alot! I know his tests were hit or miss but he really cares about his students. I know he curved me because I was teetering on a B and I ended up with an A.

I'm currently in his College Algebra Honors class. I had taken a regular College Algebra course with another professor a year before and was failing miserably which led me to drop. But with Professor Purtee, I'm learning so much more and he's very helpful. He also takes his time explaining things, and keeps the class interesting! Recommended!

He's a very thorough, which surprised me. I use to love math as a kid, but in years of high school, the teachers never really did anything for me in the manner of enjoying math. This teacher brought back the enjoyment of being able to do math. He's extremely straight forward and gets things done.

If you are good at math then you should take this class. He moves really quickly through all the material. If you're not that good at math (like me) then get ready to live in the math center. Your entire grade will be based on your test scores alone. He gave 4 tests and 1 final exam for a total of 5 tests. The final replaces the lowest grade.

He is great, very easy to follow because he explains everything very simply... but he really goes fast over the material, so if you can't follow fast you will be in trouble. Lot's of homework but he never checks it, it's just for practice. One take home test. Overall I have nothing to complain about.

Great professor. Literally a "do your work and you'll pass" type of professor. Tests are very similar to the homework and practice tests so you won't be surprised. He can SEEM intimidating and strict but he's really nice and helpful and answers all of your questions. I'll miss his class for sure. BTW, I got an A by doing my homework and P.T.S

Took him at 7 am and couldn't complain! His lectures are clear cut and homework is all due online at he end of the week. His study guides carry the same math concepts that are on the test so you won't be confused or flustered. Overall a great teacher

I took his 7am, Statistics yikes! I never thought I'd pass this class with all the scary stories I've heard about stats and it especially being at 7am. He does give tough work and sometimes can make you feel a little stupid lol, but he's really not that bad. spend endless amount in tutoring, and in confusion but i was able to pass with a B and GOD!

Professor Purtee was great! He really knows how to explain in detail the material. If you don't get anything your learning he knows how to explain it to you so that you do. Super chill teacher. Gives extra credit. If you show up you get points. Quizzes are take home and super easy. Tests are not too hard. Expect homework.. Otherwise good teacher.

He cares about you and your understanding on the material. The class can be hard if you aren't good at math, but he'll answer any questions you have, or you can go to tutoring, which I recommend. He can make you feel dumb in class, but it's because he wants you to understand the math. You need to attend class and you need to buy the textbook.

Purtee is the best math teacher I have ever had. He makes trig very easy, he has neat tricks for graphing. He is highly qualified to teach, he does his part, but you must do yours and do your homework, do extra problems if you don't get it, and ask questions. He tries to make trig as easy as possible. He explains while he is showing examples.

You have to attend class, but he's a great professor. This was my second course with him because he's awesome. It's easy to fall behind if you don't keep up with the work, but he explains everything really well and let's you know what to expect on tests.

He comes off as a hardass, but he just has an odd personality. He cares about you if you care about the class. His lectures are amazing, and they will teach you more than most professors, but his writing is nearly illegible, so be prepared to learn a new written language, or ask him what something say a lot. And don't be late, or you will be boo'd.

He is very opinionated but when you get passed that he is a good professor. He knows what he is talking about. Statistics was so easy with him, if you study what he tells you to study, which he does you'll pass. He simplified the subject so much, it was an easy A, but with work. He has homework and group study guides, but he gives extra credit.

Class is easy. The material was pretty simple. Professor Purtee is straightforward. You need to attend classes. Most importantly, you need to do your homeworks, both at webassign and in class. Don't make stuff complicated, life is easy.

I took the hybrid class, which was good because he makes video lectures you can watch on your own time, pause when you need to, or go back, which frees up time in class to practice what you learned with 4 people walking around to help you through. He assigns groups so if your group is cool its really helpful to have people to practice with. 10/10

Professor Purtee has a reverse classroom model. I was hesitant at first but actually really enjoyed this new way of learning. He gives Tons of extra credit. If you are terrible at math like myself, just make sure you do all of your homework and take advantage of the EC given and you will pass. Also the TAs are awesome and give a lot of help!

His class is a hybrid class (online and in-class). He is a clear speaker and knows what he is talking about when it comes on to Mathematics. He might come off as an intimidating guy (not to me), but he is a cool guy. If you are very careless about Math, this will not be the best class for you. In that, practicing is critical.

I took Purtee for Calc II and got a B (which is amazing considering math use to be my worst subject) and I got an A in Physics. He gives you enough chances to earn your grade through homework and extra credit, but don't assume this class is going to be easy. You actually have to study! He gives you the tools, you just have to use them.

I took Trig and he is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. I've never been very good at math especially trig but there are so many chances for extra credit, he gives you a practice test which has the same types of problems as the real tests and he actually teaches the concepts. Go to class, pay attention and do the work online.

He forms teams on the first day of class and they stay the same for the entire semester. Online quizzes are easy and multiple attempts. Lab each week is done in groups and each group submits 1 lab report. 4 tests + final: 1 test is take-home, 1 test has a group portion, and 1 test was online (easy 100%). Lots of extra credit opportunities.

I',m terrible in math and this class Improve my skills tremendously. I took Professor Purtee hybrid class, so I did work in and out of class. His videos give you step by step and he covers everything before a test. He also gives extra credit opportunities and always there to help.

Do your online homework it helps set it in. Flipped course was great lectures were online then the technical "homework" was done in class. Teaching and helping others in your group helps you! Show up with your notes do your online work every week welcome to basically passing. His tests are what he teaches not that extra stuff.

My single favorite math professor from this college. While the class itself may be harder then others, by the time you leave you will have a strong understanding of whatever it is you came to learn. Often teaches base concepts and ideas rather then just specific cases. He is not as hard on you as people say, in my experience.

I found the flipped classroom very helpful. It allowed for less homework and help in the classroom when working on the worksheets. He and the TAs walk around helping students out when asked. Hands down one of the best math teachers.

I took Prof. Purtee's College Algebra flipped classroom course. I can't stress enough how much I loved this class. Watch videos at home and take notes (which is your daily participation grade) then come to school and receive help from the great T.A.'s and do homework in class. 5 tests. Lots of HW. Really smart professor, he knows what he is talking about and is ready to share his knowledge with the class. You have to go to class and pay attention or you will not do well, take notes for EVERYTHING, it will help you ALOT in the end. I took him for physics I with algebra. He said it was a tougher class. But with the help of his lectures and his HW, he made this class pretty easy. There are 4 tests ( one of them online) labs, he makes you figure it out on your own, but helps if you ask. lots of HW(helpful) most of the hw ?s is on test. Take notes and listen, you ll pass.

This is by far the easiest class Ive taken. His lectures make it super easy to learn stats. There are 4 tests and 1 final, mymathstats, and chance of extra credit. He form groups beginning of semester, and he teaches what you need to know. Ill take him again.

Prepare to watch videos and take notes 3-4 students per group, you do group assignments that are worth points, lots of extra credit opportunities, tests as usual, midterm and finals are all in class (paper test). This class was very easy and straight forward. He gives you the notes you need for the tests. There is lots of homework, but its a math class... no matter what teacher, you're getting a lot of math homework. As long as you are in class and paying attention you'll get an A. Btw there are group quizzes every week in pre-selected groups.

Purtee has become my favorite math professor I've had at Valencia. If you don't like having to watch videos this isn't the class for you. As long as you do his notes everything is very easy to understand as he spends the class helping you with work you learned from his video seminars. Make sure to do his homework to pass the class

You have to attend class. He seemed awful at first and gives 0 tolerance to skipping even in case of emergencies which made me despise his class. The COVID outbreak happened and he laid off a lot, gave a lot of opportunity for extra easy points and even pushed dates back when we showed concern. He teaches very well & I am not even strong in math.

Amazing teacher. Yes, he is a little tough, and showing up to his class is extremely important. Professor Purtee is a excellent choice for College Trigonometry, he is also a physics teacher, which allows him to explain more in-depth about the logic behind the chapters you are learning; as well as incorporating some small physics problems to help you get ready for physics class, if youre an engineering student, take this class. Prof Purtee is awsome if you want to learn! He's great a with lectures I was afraid to take this class again but Prof Purtee was great. There's plenty of homework but it helps you in the long run. Tests are on MML but he gives you two practice tests one on paper and one in MML the one in MML you can take as many times as you need. But take him!!!!

I signed up with this professor for fall semester. Out of the 4 classes I took during this semester, this class was one of the easiest I've taken. Just watch the zoom recordings and short lesson videos that he posts and be sure to take notes. If you do this, you should have an easy time with the class.

Professor Purtee did a great job teaching Trig. Trig is very hard, multiple times I was confused. Lecture videos are very helpful. Lots of assignments and practice. Group projects about once a week. Overall, good professor very critical when it comes to grading. It's his way or no way. Just follow his syllabus and make sure work is clear & concise!

He is definitely not the nicest person but he is a good teacher. He will give you feedback on group and individual assignments as long as you submit before the due date. He gives practice tests that are exactly like the tests, he prepares you well.

Took Trigonometry with him a few semesters ago and his lectures remain excellent even in Differential Equations. If you have trouble with time management, he usually has things due twice a week so you won't get behind. Additionally, he assigns group problems so you'll be pushed into learning otherwise your group will hate you. Take him!

His class is very overwhelming at first, but once start doing the work, you realize it's not that bad. He does give a lot of work, however, the questions are really easy and it's really short. I'm horrible at math and I've been doing online for 3 semesters and he's the only teacher that actually teaches despite being online.

Makes lots of videos, but theyre typically short. He does optional zoom meetings and a lot of times does the homework of pdf assignments for you, and does homework help on there too. Youll learn the best in this class. Hes strict, but only severe about cheating. Hes helpful, and the class is very structured and organized.

Tests have an online practice test, which has all the questions that will be on the test. If you take it enough times, youll see every question possible on the test. I took the practice test 20x each time and always got an A. He has group assignments, labs that are basically asking you what youre seeing, and homework is easy. 10/10

I've never loved math classes, especially online but Professor Purtee made statistics enjoyable. Your required to watch short 510-minute lectures videos weekly but they are super helpful. Practice tests do a great job of preparing for unit tests and the final and are graded by completion. He responds to emails fast, definitely would recommend him

If you are a lazy student that just wants an easy A Chegging your way through college, you will not enjoy his class. If you are a student that actually wants to learn the material, take him! It was a huge class and he had help teaching from other math tutors in the class! Honestly, if you pay attention and do what is expected of you, EASY A! He is very clear of what is needed from you and just make sure you make the deadlines, and participate in group assignments and you are good!

I learned much more from this online class than from all my other in-person classes. He has excellent lecture videos and designs the course in such a way that makes you practice what you learn every week leading up to the exam. Thus, I never felt unprepared for any exam in this class. The group assignments are also extremely helpful.

He's an amazing professor. He's organized, provides helpful resources, and gives insightful feedback. In addition, the way he structures the course helps retention tremendously. In fact, I got As on both the midterm and final exams without much studying thanks to the course structure.

He's clearly very dedicated to what he does and is very helpful. There was a lot of hard work in this class, but it all felt rewarding, not laborious. Didn't really understand why 2 group projects (long essays and presentations) were necessary in a math class though.

Professor Purtee has decades of experience and improves upon his methods. Active teaching style. Bite size pre-recorded lecture videos. Very responsive via e-mail. Only complaint: lots of online assignments across multiple websites. This is a hard class, but Professor Purtee is an expert.

Purtee is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's kind, caring, and fair. Plus, he's so good at explaining concepts of mathematics that although I usually prefer to learn through reading, I didn't touch the textbook more than once in this course. If you utilize well the resources he provides, getting an A in his class will be a breeze.

The amount of work in his class is very moderate compared to other classes that are required by engineering and other STEM majors and is structured in a way that gives you an opportunity to review the materials you learn every week. I feel like all the work is worthwhile though because I have learnt a ton from this class despite its being online.

Easy class as expected, but learned so much more from this class than I initially thought. The materials he provides are very practical and helpful for learning. Highly recommend if want to get into Data Science like me!

Take him for DEQ!! Extremely approachable, he explains the material a way that is easy to learn. Just do the hw its really not that hard, he drops a test and reviews are similar to the test, 2 group project but he is there every step of the way if you have trouble, and they are not hard projects. . If you do everything you will walk out with an A.

There are indeed lots of assignments in this class, but they're all very easy and helpful. I also find the lecture videos and homework great for active recalling and learning the statistical methods.

Very particular on how you do assignments, when he says just copy from his videos, just do it. Compared to my Physics 1 prof though, this class was 100% better. Free textbook, tons of lectures help videos, not too much HW. If you do the practice tests enough you'll see every question that will be on the test. For Physics 2, this class was great.

This class is as challenging as I expected. It has 2 big group projects, a ton of group assignments, a midterm, and a final. However, I learned a ton about applications of differential equations to engineering and felt that this class prepared me well for the rigor of my major, mechanical engineering.

Prof Purtee's class is a flipped course (you watch the lectures at home & do the homework in class), which isn't for everyone, but overall I think he's very good at making the information easy to understand. If you watch the lectures thoroughly and take notes, you'll get an A. He is a bit sassy), but he's not rude I recommend this course!

Totally thought I was going to have a rough time going into statistics based on what I've heard but professor Purtee guaranteed the opposite. There were so many resources provided and he told you exactly what he wanted done for assignments. There is a bit of work, but it looks more overwhelming than it actually is. 4 tests, can be done at home. one midterm & one final that need to be taken at a testing center. Provides the textbook but there's really no need to buy it, as he provides ample resources to cover what you'd learn from the book. Complete respect to this professor, he laid everything out. Professor Purtee's STA2023 class was great - he provides tons of helpful resources like practice tests and videos. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of it. I also found Unstuck AI really useful for studying and test prep.

Makes the material very understandable, tests are very similar to homework/study guide. However, he tends to go off topic with his opinions about cheating and can have an attitude with students. Group projects were long and time consuming.

Purtee is tough, but fair when it comes to his class. Class is heavily hw-based, so missing a couple will drop you a letter grade, but if ur not doing the hw for Calc that's on you. Test 3 is the hardest, but a test grade is dropped, not including the midterm and final. Midterm and final are 2-day tests, so there's no way to fail them anyway.

He does a good job and really makes the class easy, but he just has a nasty attitude sometimes and never stops talking about cheating.

If you understand Calc concepts, the material itself won't be very difficult. His lectures are easy to follow and give plenty of examples. Very nit-picky on grading, but just present clean work and don't for get d/dx and +C. Group quizzes are easy and 2 projects are tedious but not difficult. Study guides are very similar to exams. Don't cheat.

Lots and lots of homeworks and lecture videos. There are also group assignments, but the way this professor does them counters the lazy guy. The midterm and final have to be in person even if you are taking him online. He doesn't have round grades but does have extra credit opportunities. His practice tests are very similar to the Midterm/Final.

The class is a difficult class in itself. There are weekly lecture videos, homework assignments can be long and tedious, group assignments due every week. If you put in the work, you'll understand the concepts and will do great in the class. He can be condescending sometimes and is extremely obsessed with cheating, so make sure you DON'T cheat.

Just finished 4th class with Purtee. HIGHLY recommend. 10/10. Sarcastic, passionate, knows his stuff (math and physics). Homework heavy, but it acts as a nice cushion if you test poorly so do your homework!!! Happy to help with anything, you just have to ask. Textbook is free. Math classes are flipped, he does his own lecture videos (with jokes).
