Professor Suranovic's class is pretty good. He has his textbook online so you don't have to buy a ridiculously expensive one. He's kind of a goofball, but good at teaching.
I think Prof. Suranovic is the most clear and concise econ professor I have had. He tries to relate the class to real world occurances and does a good job of presenting complex material.

You have to go to class all the time. Save the readings for a review before the quizzes/tests. Work hard though because although the curves on the quizzes and midterm are nice, in the end the class curve only ends up being 1 or 2 points and may not save you after all. Otherwise, an ok teacher.
Gives you his online book for free. Tough grader, but if you really study the book and take excellent notes you can get a good grade. You will have learned a whole lot. Interesting, lecturer, also.
Best econ professor at GW. goes through derivations, but he expects you to know the intuition, the charts, and the basic equations rather than the full derivations. his tests are incredibly fair for an econ class, but still difficult if you're not an econ major.
One of the best lecturers ive ever had. Class is pretty easy if you go to all the lectures. No text-book needs to be bought. Reading is not necessary if you go to class.
the free textbook is good but it works best together w/ lecture attendance. good lectures- clear, concise, nicely paced. tests are fair but final was significantly harder. don't expect any multiple choice tests. study hard and attend all the lectures. you have to know your stuff in order to do well. solid professor.
Great professor, very helpful in office hours, relatively clear for an econ prof. Free textbook is great, but go to class to get an A. Problem is he does an actual bell curve, so very very few As to get. You will have to study his text very hard, but hey, that's any econ course, right? Kind of a funny lecturer in a weird way, too.
Great guy. Extremely clear for an econ prof - gives great examples that make sense. Really helpful during ofc hours. As said above, bell curve will kill you.
I agree with everyone else: one of the best econ profs I've ever had thanks to the clarity of his lectures and his unique gift of making very complex material understandable to an economics novice. Very generous person all around: e.g., office hour availability, teaching material free online, and dedication to teaching students. I am a big fan.
Perhaps the best prof I've had at GW. Truly an amazing teacher - he is incredibly clear and thorough while simultaneously being enaging and interesting. This course is a great way to get Elliot school prerecs met and learn a lot. No textbook, but go to class.
I understand that this is the first year he is teaching economics of wto, but come on. his lectures WILL put you to sleep, as they are redundant, uninteresting, and cover material that you should know already from micro and macro. I didn't learn anything new and his quizzes were rediculously arbitrary ("jeopardy style" ... remembering buzzwords)
I loved him and I'm not a huge fan of econ. He was always clear and concise. Really helpful in office hours.
Prof Suranovic is clear, concise, interesting .Great economics professor. I detested economics, i detested maths, but he made me understand international economics like no one else. The A minus no 4.0s for me, but i learnt so much. Difficult grader, but if you are regular you can get an A.
He's a great professor with high expectations of his students. He clearly knows what he's speaking about and I learned a ton despite the fact that punished my grade like no other.
He makes what seems to be compex material very clear in class, but come the test, he words questions which seem to confuse students. The format of the tests are unrelated to any of the practice that we do and he is a tough grader, but you learn a lot and if you work hard, go to class and go to his office hours, you can do well.
The best economics professor I have ever had, hands down. As long as you study, you are guarenteed to do well. There are four quizzes, a midterm, and a final. The format for quizzes and midterms are essentially provided in his online textbook (you dont need to buy a book). The best way to get rid of a econ requirement, without a doubt.
Professor Suranovic is an awesome professor. He is clear and concise and extremely approachable. He works hard for the students to actually understand the course material. His tests are tough, although they cover what he has taught but are framed in a manner where you are compelled to think and reason out. He is awesome. I would recommend him:)
He is the best teacher I had at GW. He is very compassionate about world problems, especially poverty.
Thoroughly enjoyed the class. The professor is excellent.
By far one of the best professors I had here. Very clear and makes the material easy to understand. I got Cs in my intro classes but I'm getting an A in this one - to give a good idea of how good he is. I really wish I could take his 182 class next semester but it's closed.
He's actually a very good teacher (rare at most universities), but tests a lot. He's a bit stingy with grades. I topped out most of his tests (relative to others), but still received only an A-. Nonetheless, he does a great job of teaching if you're interested in the subject!
Overall a good class, but frustrating because it only met once a week. There was no print textbook, just his online textbook, which was nice because it was free but also annoying because having a physical book is useful. Seemed like there was too much to cram into the short amount of time the class actually met.
Professor Suranovic is a great teacher. He is clear and he explains thing very well. His grading system is very forgiving and if you put in a decent amount of effort than theres no reason you can't get an A.
Prof. Suranovic is a great teacher. His lectures, although a little dull, (but hey, what isn't dull about economics?) are very clear and sometimes say a little more than the textbook. 4 Quizzes and 6 Problem Sets- the lowest grades are dropped. You probably could only fail if you put in a poor amount of effort. I'd highly recommend this class.
His lectures are boring and he always happens to fall behind schedule. He has problem sets that are often a lecture a head of where he is. He words tests and problem sets very strangly. I do not feel that I learned all that much in this class
The course is really nothing as long as your math is OK. Prof. Suranovic talks in a very vivid way, but he seems not be able to follow his schedule most of the time. The best part is that he posts the outlines for each lecture on blackboard and that helps a lot. The tests are all of basic stuff. Of course, just be clear about the terminologies.
Extremely difficult intro to micro econ class. Professor has okay lectures, somewhat boring but he knows and is interested in what he talks about. I did all the readings, had a tutor, and went to the classes but ended up with a C+ in the class. Final exam was 15 pages long and most students in the class didn't know how to do a lot of it.
If you want a professor who clearly explains concepts and knows what he's talking about, Suranovic is for you. He lectures in a very engaging way and really breaks down concepts - it only gets boring when he sometimes repeats concepts over and over again. Grades are curved. 4 quizzes, midterm, final.
Great prof. He is acessible, and brillant and he will really help you understand the material. the topics are difficult but he explains it very well. His exams are difficult, expect a B, but you will know the material very well. Worth taking the class
Even though I have very minimal interest in econ, I found his lectures to be very comprehensive and clear. The best part is that he posts his lecture notes online, which you can basically substiture for reading the text. The problem sets were pretty easy and the quizzes weren't that bad. Definitely take him!
Suranovic is the man! His lectures are both clear and interesting, and even though attendance isn't mandatory, you end up going to class anyway. The problem sets and quizzes were not that bad, and he drops a lot of low grades. You can get an A unless you're not that good at math. Also, you don't need to read the text book, just the online lectures.
I hate econ but suranovic is an amazing teacher. Teaches straight to the book and spends any extra time helping you if you need it. Completely understandable and lectures are interesting and even funny... or as funny as they can be in econ. :)
I hate Econ and so I didn't enjoy this class a whole lot but I think Suranovic is a good guy and was able to explain everything pretty well. Uses a website textbook that he wrote.
Never liked econ, but suranovic actually made it interesting. The readings he gives you and paper topics are actually relevant in the real world which is cool. I acutally now really like econ, just wish i was better at it. But if you have to take econ take it with this prof. He is really great.
I took his class in Shanghai, China. He is a very clear teacher and a nice guy to chat with. Although I was moderately interested in the effects of economics prior to this class, I did not get to like and appreciate economics till I took this class since all previous econ experiences were not too good. Now I am interested in learning more.
Professor Suranovic is a clear and helpful lecturer, but certain other parts of his class were frustrating. What he covers in lectures and on homeworks is not always what you are tested on, and his expectations can be hard to decipher. He is also pretty politically biased considering he teaches an introductory class.
He puts all his lecture notes online so it's ok if you miss class. However, still a great lecturer.
His exams, quizzes, and problem set questions come from his lecture notes that are posted online, so you don't really need to read the textbook. Pay attention in class and review the lecture notes gradually because it is too many concepts to cram. He curves everything using a normal distribution. Overall, not a difficult class if you do your work.
The lectures are very clear and recommended, but he posts the audio and lecture notes online so you don't have to go. The homeworks, quizzes, and exams all seem to come from the same pool of questions, and the information for those questions all come from key points presented in the lectures. You don't have to read the textbook, but it helps.
He is okay, but definitely not the best...I would go with Foster!
i never went to class haha...but for a good reason...he posts everything he literally says online...and his tests are pretty easy since he just uses the problem set hws over again
Don;t have to go class. He posts all the lecture notes online and all you have to do for quizzes and tests is to print those lecture notes and problem sets on online and problems which we are given per two weeks are completion grades so don't worry about them. The midterm is not too bad as long as you study the notes. Never but next book!!
Best econ professor at GW! Lectures are definitely worth going to, despite the fact that they're posted online. Very clear in his explanations and he can make a difficult concept seem easy. Go to office hours; he's a cool guy.
Not the best Economics professor. His lectures are pretty much pointless and the TA end up teaching you what you need to know for the quizzes and tests. The Midterm was okay, but the final quite difficult. You also don't really know your average since they never post them on.
Great professor. I really had a hard time with the subject because for some it is difficult, but he does a great job of breaking everything down. Really approachable and his lectures are pretty easy to follow. Also, the grading in the course is VERY FAIR.
He's the nicest guy and the curve in the class helps but hes a terrible teacher. Lectures are so pointless because he goes in circles and off topic quite a bit. Foster is a much better professor and she actually gives extra credit for attending section. Do not take Suranovic if you can avoid it!!!
Suranovic is a nice enough guy but his lectures are painfully boring. Almost too simplistic. The class itself is pretty easy and if you can manage to pay attention throughout his lectures you'll do very well. Textbook really only comes in handy when doing the work, his blackboard is very comprehensive and useful! Overall, I'm happy I had him– easy.
He's soooo boring. Literally I fell asleep/facebooked every lecture. However he does drop lowest quiz, gives you free points here and there and getting a B or so isnt that hard. Lectures online, but going to class will guarantee that B. But you're in for one heck of a boring ride...
Not helpful at all. He knows what he is talking about but does not explain well. Also, some of his tests have strange wording, making it easy to lose points on a concept that you understand.
Prof Suranovic is an awesome teacher! I find his lectures interesting and he conveys it in a very simple manner. I highly recommend his class, although, for tests and quizzes, the TA will tell you specifically what to focus on. Econ wasn't as bad as everyone complained it was, then again, I don't mind biweekly problem sets and quizzes.
Easiest economics class at GW. Four quizzes, one dropped. Six problem sets, two are dropped, and all graded on effort. Quizzes, midterm, and final all directly from the problem sets, verbatim. Book is online, don't buy it. Take this class if you want an easy intro to econ!
Suranovic is great! He puts lectures online so on those days you just can't get out of bed you can watch them later. He is SO helpful and is very clear and concise when explaining material. He is good at making economics accessible to non-math people. But the class isn't TOO easy either. It's perfect and wonderful. Work hard and you will do well.
Best professor I ever met at GWU. I took his Micro Econ class, after which I found Econ a fascinating field and decided to take International Econ as my concentration. He has very organized lectures with very helpful practices and notes online! Lecturers are always very logical and remember the key concepts he mentions. Very friendly and helpful!
Professor Suranovic is a good Micro professor. He is very informative and is really willing to help. There are 4 quizzes (1 dropped), 6 problem sets (only need to do 4), and a midterm and final. All of it is curved so that helps your score, so it is overall easy. Best part is his lectures are all online, so you don't have to go to lectures at all.
Awful, awful, awful. Lectures were completely useless and didn't comply with exams. Exam questions were unnecessarily worded like riddles. My TA, while extremely nice, did not speak a word of english. The vast majority of his class agrees that they gained nothing from this course.
Its nice how so much is dropped and the problem sets don't matter, but the quizzes/exams aren't what he tells you to expect. I thankfully had a TA who spoke english, otherwise it becomes even harder than it should be.
Suranovic is very good, however, he goes through the material lightning quick. While the work for the class isn't bad, the lectures go very quickly and you have a T.A. My T.A. was awful. You have to pass the algebra assessment test (you have 3 chances), otherwise, the class will not be easy. Unfortunately, I had to drop it taking it as a 5th class
I thought he was a great prof and wished he taught micro. His class isn't ridiculously hard but I learned a lot. The other profs are harder but you do learn more. You have four quizzes and hw graded on completion. The midterm and finals and quizzes were slightly difficult. His lectures are videos online and he is very clear.
Good teacher, goes through material quickly but all the lectures are online to go back to and review later. Very clear expectations, no surprises on quizzes. If you do the packets and go back and review them, then you should be fine for quizzes. Considering its an intro level course he is really good at explaining concepts in a non complex way.
He really knows his stuff and wants you to learn. Thats why he records lectures, puts them online, and posts other lecture notes. Honestly, it's hard to do badly in his class unless you dont study, dont come to class, and have the IQ of a chair. Getting an A still requires a good amount of work just lik any other class, but its definitely possible.
Awesome Prof! Went to his office hours a few times in the semester and he helped a lot. TAs not too great, depends on who you get. Drops lowest quiz, curves everything. Made me want to change my major to Econ. Highly recommend him. Exams can be difficult, but you HAVE to read the book AND go over the problem sets. Do that and you'll be fine.
His lectures are very clear and he gives specific grading criteria. However, it requires work on the student's part. It can be difficult but he drops several of the lowest grades. He makes economics interesting.
His lectures were often hard to follow. I mostly learned from reading, reviewing the notes he posted, and attending discussion section. The class is challenging.
Suranovic was a decent professor. He lectured heavily on the math aspects of micro and often the lectures just dragged on and on. The only time anyone should up to discussion section is when there would be a quiz. The TA's accent made understanding anything nearly impossible. I didn't open the book. His curving helps a ton
There's a quiz every other week in recitation, a midterm, and final. His quizzes and tests are never quite what you expect them to be, but if you read the lecture notes, pay attention in class, and review the problem sets, you should be okay. He drops the lowest quiz and you only have to do four out of the six problem sets. Overall, he's the man!
Overall this class is really easy. I didn't have any problems whatsoever! Definitely take advantage of group studying for the problem sets though.. Those things are long as ffffreak
Steve wants you to pass: attendance is not mandatory, all lectures are recorded & posted online, old quizzesproblem sets are on Blackboard. That said, this is not an "easy A." Read the material, study for tests, and you can earn an A.
Great lecturer. Borrow someone else's log in info for the 3 times you'll need the online textbook. If you took AP Macro you'll do fine. If you havent taken any Econ course ever you will need to practice. Tests are fair. Problem sets are worth it for the practice. Very helpful in office hours. Really loves to teach and get you to understand info.
By far the best professor I had this semester. Lectures are clear, concise, and interesting. Lectures posted online were extremely helpful and an A is very attainable as long as you watch the lectures and review the problem sets. He also curves and drops your lowest grades, and wants you to do well in his class. Great professor, great class.
He tried really hard to be helpful, but just wasn't. He wanted his students to do well, but he often overcomplicated concepts. Study with friends or a tutor and you will do well.
Professor Suranovic teaches concepts and likes to use examples involving Smith, who sells apples, and Jones, who sells oranges. He does this to simplify situations in small trade settings. There are problem sets that are completion grades. He curves all quizzes and exams. Do better than average, and you will get an A or B. Never used the book.
The class itself is not that hard, and requires little effort, but Suranovich is not the greatest teacher ever and makes it confusing. I've managed to do pretty well in his class, but I still feel like my foundation in Econ is quite shaky. Idk if I would take him or Foster. People who take Suranovich over Foster do better in Macro with Sameniego.
So thankfully Suranovic records lectures and puts them online, so theres no need to go to class! Also, attendance isn't mandatory. There are quizzes, problem sets, a midterm, and final. All quizzes are curved too. Also, I bought the hard copy textbook but there was no need, since we never use it...
Suranovic was an ok lecturer, but the final was near impossible. He was quite unclear and didn't present the material in a good format.
Overall great professor. Very understanding. I slept through an exam once, openly explained this to him and he let me retake without an issue. There is a curve which makes everyone's lives better. Go to his office hours and you will tend to get a better grade. Overall which he offered more classes because would definitely take him again.
Not very helpful and rather boring professor. Grading criteria clear but non very inspirational
His lectures are very productive and he has notes uploaded. Quizes and homeworks matter, but his are the most well laid out. Besides, he has every class recorded and uploaded to blackboard, for anyone who wishes to take a day off and study from home. Overall great experiance.
Toughest class ever! Did not understand anything from class and had to watch the class again (he records them) for quizzes and tests. So confusing!
Big fan of this course/professor. The quizzes are hard, but straightforward and taken right from the lectured material. The book and lecture stuff matches perfectly because it is his book. He really focuses on 'real world applicability' and policy-oriented lessons because he knows this is a required course.
Suranovic isn't difficult as long as you pay attention to the lectures (he posts them online, so you don't even have to go to class) and do the problem sets. His way of teaching economics is refreshing and much different from the mainstream.
Professor Suranovic is very friendly and accessible outside class! His lectures are easy to understand as long as you read the lecture notes before every lecture. He also provides sample midterm and final exams from previous years for you to practice. Has great humor. A very very nice person. He makes hard concepts easy to understand!
At first, you may find the class to be a bit tedious and very confusing. However, just read the lectures, do the problem sets, attend TA and professor office hours, and work hard. I went to his office hours every week, and he saw that I worked hard. He does curve grades at the end and just about every assessment.
He's awful. He doesn't even teach supply and demand until after the midterm. The leactures are useless and there's no textbook so you're on your own for studying. Go to the TA sessions.
Suranovic was a very interesting guy to listen to but he focused too much on conceptual ideas during lecture whereas the quizzes and tests were a lot more application based. If you know how to do the questions on the problem sets you'll be fine.
Professor Suranovic is a very nice guy but not a good professor. His class is extremely boring and lecture heavy. He video tapes and puts all of his lectures online, but the greatest help was the TA review sessions. To do well in this class, it would help to take advantage of your time with the TAs.
This class made me really interested in economics. I know Foster is the usual go-to for Micro, but I loved Suranovic. His grading is very reasonable, tests are just repeats of problems given in problem sets (6 due). He explains concepts very clearly and uploads lectures online. Didn't make us buy a useless textbook either, which I appreciated
Prof. Suranovic is amazing! I found his lectures to be very clear and easy to follow, and he did an exceptionally good job explaining complicated concepts. He is also really approachable and understanding. The class is set up for success, with 4 quizzes (lowest dropped), problem sets graded for completion, and a curve! Would absolutely recommend!!!
If you're a freshmen and have to take Econ 1011 do not take his class. Take Foster. This was so unnecessarily hard. Everyone fails raw score and then he puts a curve but you're not actually learning econ.
Steve is the example of a mediocre teacher. As long as you review problem sets before quizzes and if you want go to TA sessions you'll be fine. I have an A and don't go to my discussions.
Professor Suranovic made a simple subject nearly impossible. His lectures are almost incomprehensible, it's sometimes better to not even go. Everyone I've spoken to says their TA's aren't helpful, and everyone fails raw score. You don't learn much in this class, mostly just a headache. Would recommend taking Foster's micro course over this.
Suranovic was great for micro and made the course easy to succeed in (lowest quiz grade dropped, curve, only 4/6 problem sets due). I thought his lectures were very clear and gave me a solid understanding of economics. He provided lots of helpful study resources before the midterm & final. Would not rely on the TAs for help in this class though.
Professor Suranovic was a pretty solid Econ teacher overall. His lectures were very easy to understand If you actually take the time to take notes and study them. I heard a lot of the TAs sucked by mine was great. On the midterm and final he does throw some curveballs at you, which is the only negative. Just be sure keep up with the material!
Suranovic is by far the best intro Econ teacher. No homework besides the problem sets (graded for completion), lowest quiz grade dropped. 10% of your grade is an easy simple math test in the first week. Very genuine and funny professor, seems like a nice guy all around. He made me want to take another Econ class some day. Highly recommend!
Suranovic does a good job making uninteresting content appealing. Nonetheless, the curriculum itself is a bit of a mess, with plenty of tangentially-related models taught in a relatively short time-span. He deserves substantial credit for offering lots of online content, without the need for an expensive textbook.
Suranovic is exceptionally in love with his job and his area of expertise, and is a wonderful man. However, this class is not designed for you to pass. You are graded by a few things, and the method in which you learn Economics is more about memorizing graphs than it is real econ... I learned very little and was stressed more than was healthy.
Suranovic doesn't use a textbook, but he talks like one. He is knowledgeable in the subject but his lectures are very heavy because there is no textbook. It is impossible to get a good grade because he curves on a curve making the average a C+, so if you do average, you will get a C. Also very few grades are put in.
Very good lecturer, take online if you can - it gives you a chance to rewind and revisit topics that you didn't understand on the first go through. He does explain things very well, but it can be hard to process in the moment if you are not math-inclined. Tests are hard but doable. Take EXCELLENT lecture notes. Everything is fair game.
Steve is a good guy and knows what he's talking about. A lot of people struggle with him if they've never taken Econ because he approaches Econ from a different perspective. The tests and quizzes are fairly easy with no surprises on them. 4 Quizzes (Lowest Dropped), 2 Tests (Midterm & Final) & all are heavily curved. Watch lectures online.
Textbook reading and doing practice problems from each unit of a chapter is critical. Grades on a curve so the points needed to get a good grade is lower than typically. Very polished lecturer who directs his students to understand the content's practical context.
Suranovic is GOOD. His class is not easy (DO NOT take this as an HSS elective for SEAS) but I enjoyed the material and he clearly cared a lot about the topics and his students. Amazing in office hours, good at explaining, and while his tests and quizzes were not easy, they still were relatively straight forward. Also, genuinely really nice guy.
Overall, one of the better intro to Econ professors. I've hear horror stories about other profs, but Suranovic's expectations for the class are pretty clear. The lectures can be a little boring, so most of the class doesn't show up, but I would say it's worth your time to go.
Professor Suranovic is a great professor: what he lectures is what you can expect to be on the quizzes and exams. The course is very clear-cut and outlined in the syllabusif you attend every lecture, discussion section and complete all practice sets, an A should be achievable. Make sure to understand each economic concept and not just memorize.
I hate economics, so I automatically did not love Suranovic. I found myself dissociating in his class because I was honestly a little triggered by the content. He's a very nice guy but there's nothing extraordinary about his class. I also found the quizzes to be harder than the homework, which was frustrating. I also cried like weekly bc i hated it
Suranovic's class is probably the easiest of the Econ1011's. All of his lectures are posted online an hour after class, which is great since I had him at 9:35 AM. I would recommend not going and just watching the lecture capture, as you can make the speed twice as fast and go back when you don't understand something. Homework is just like the tests
The best professor I've had so far. Even though the subject is not easy itself, Suranovic is super caring, accessible outside the classroom and does genially want you to understand the material. Go to office hours! Grading criteria is very clear and you will know what to study for. Beware of final worth 40% of the grade.
Very good economics professor, probably amongst the best at GW. TAs are the ones who control your grades and final, worth 40%, can be a bit brutal but the practice tests prepare you well for most questions. Requires diligence and I recommend attendance although it's not required.
Suranovic is an extremely solid and reliable professor with clear grading criteria. Econ was not a subject I thought I was interested in, but he really sparked my interest in the course. It is not an easy class, and the quizzes can be a hit or a miss, but it is evident that Suranovic truly cares about what he is teaching and wants you to do well.
It's an easy class if you put the work in but a lot of my friends really struggled. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!
This is the only micro ECON professor I would recommend, although test and exams always have 1-2 questions out of expectation. We had 6 problem sets (top 4 count, means you only have to do 4 in total) and 4 quizzes (3 count), 1 midterm and final. All Quizzes and Midterms are in the form and problem range alike problem sets. He's very kind always.
While this class isn't an easy A, he gives lots of supporting resources. Homework assignments are great study guides for quizzes. TAs hold a lot of review sessions for midterm and final. If you put in the work, you will get a good grade. He also posts lectures on blackboard, which can be reviewed for studying. Very organized!!
Hands down the best Econ professor I've had. Although getting an A is hard, he makes you understand economics and overall is a great professor! Sign up for his class early because everyone always wants to switch in.
I had never taken Economics before this but I truly enjoyed taking Suranovic's class. He does a great job explaining difficult concepts and really wants his students to do well. If you show up to class, read the textbook, and go to the TA sessions you should be fine. The class requires work, but it is rewarding.
He is extremely clear at teaching the material. Compared to other econ 1011 professors, Suranovic makes you actually apply the concepts taught in class, and he also includes a lot of theories in his teachings rather than just "memorize and apply". Take this class if you actually want to learn economics.
One of the better professors for introduction to micro. His lectures are difficult because he goes on tangents and its early in the morning. TA Nisan is really helpful and helped me get a B. Grading is super simple 5% math test (SO easy), Problem Sets 10%, Quizzes 15% (only take the highest 3/4 grades), midterm 30%, final 40% and curves.
Prof. Suranovic is by far the best econ professor at GW, at least for beginning econ. Econ is hard and it'll be hard no matter who you have. But Suranovic gives clear explanations and obviously cares a lot about what he teaches.
Best ECON1011 teacher, clear lectures but hard on grading. If u wanna be a slacker, do not take this class. Keep in mind his grading is based on the class mean and standard deviation and there is only 19% of students got an A in 2018.
prof suranovic is the best of the worst in the econ department. he is very knowledgeable on econ and accessible outside class but he will make you hard for your grade. bonus. all of his tests are curved... if they weren't i would've failed no lie so i would recommend him.
Really the only choice for Micro. It was definitely not an easy A but if you put in the effort you'll do fine. He's a good professor overall, MUCH better than the other options. No one ever showed up to lecture but he actually has a great dry sense of humor. My TA was horrible but still did good just by lecture and the practice Suranovic gave.
He is a very responsible teacher and truly cares about his students. The TA Steven Chen is also amazing! You have to take his Econ 1011 because he is the best!!!
He is an excellent teacher!!! He tries as best as he can to make sure every student is doing well. Don't worry about quizzes and exams, if you do the problem sets and practice exams, you'll get a really high score. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Despite him being clearly organized and giving us practice tests, the real exams were always much harder than the practice tests. The midterm and final was extremely hard. The quizzes were similar to the homework. There was no textbook in this class but instead his lecture notes. The TA is the best resource in this class and helped a lot!
Prof. Suranovic is by far my favorite econ teacher in GW. Really interesting lectures, post PowerPoint and lecture capture online so you can go back and watch it. Have graded homework every chapter which is helpful for the quiz. Midterm and final are also not hard as long as you listen to his lecture and GO to TA section, it is really helpful.
Prof. Suranovic is the best Econ professor I've had throughout my time in GW. He makes the lecture really interesting, is very accessible, and gives you all the tools you need to learn and succeed in his class. Pd: try to pay attention to the whole lectures and do the homework even tho not all of them are graded because they will help you.
Econ is a tough course. The second half of the semester seems to be easier though. Online you can just watch his lectures later. Only graded on 3 out of 4 exams. Four out of six homeworkers. As well as the midterm and final. Everything is curved which is really nice. And online everything has been open-note.
Of all the micro profs, Suranovic is the best. However, the course was extremely challenging. He curves everything which is nice, but at times quizzes were significantly more difficult than the material provided in lecture. Overall, Suranovic is clearly knowledgable and enthusiastic about micro econ, but the class was too hard for an intro class.
tests & hw every other week. course goes through a ton of info, so it is hard to get really good at any single section. suranovic was sweet, but would only show already completed examples in lectures (probably bc it was online but idk). this course was really challenging--make sure you understand each concept before moving on to the next lecture.
Awesome lecturer and love his incorporation of ethics into a boring subject like micro -- although this class grading is tough because the midterm is 30% and final is 40%, got an A- even though i got an A on the final, quizzes, and psets but a B on the midterm Tips: Don't just do the psets and be done, rewatch lectures and go to discussion section
If you're required to take this class but don't have a lot of interest in economics, definitely take Suranovic! The lectures weren't really interesting but if you're relatively smart and study for the quizzes you'll be fine. He grades on a good curve, and drops your worst quiz. Don't have to read the nightly lecture notes.
Hes a really good guy! The class ran smoothly virtually, and he was super accessible with questions (as were the TAs). While some of the material was tricky, I genuinely liked him as a professor and would definitely take one of his classes again. The curves are nice. He also adds fun facts & real world examples into lectures to make them engaging.
This class was definitely hard for an intro class but informative. Homework every other week was helpful and similar to quizzes. It can be stressful because the midterm and final are 70%. TA is very helpful. Curves are good but I worked hard and ended up with a B. He puts the average at C+ and B-. Helpful to go back and watch recorded lectures.
Suranovic was an amazing professor! There are a lot of problem sets and quizzes, but he drops low grades and curves EVERYTHING which helps a lot. The problem sets and practice tests he provided were also great practice for exams. You can get an A if you come to lecture, put the effort in and study. Also the TAs are a great resource!
Grades made up of 4 graded problem sets for completion, 4 or 5 quizzes, 2 exams, and an algebra quiz at the start of the semester. He curves all assignments and the grade as a whole. Nice man, but quizzes and exams will pose questions and situations you are not ready for.
Micro is kinda hard if you don't keep up with it. Suranovic is a good intro teacher and you definitely learn a lot. Sometimes though I felt as If he oversimplified some stuff and at the end of the semester I just stopped asking why something is the answer and just accepted it is what it was.
I don't know why he has a good rating. There was no reason for econ1011 to be this difficult. Many students were lost throughout the semester, he goes super fast, you can't ask questions during class. He'll tell you to go to office hours or to the TAs. The exam questions are not like what you see in class.
This class was tough for a 200 level intro. Many test questions are obscure facts, barely mentioned. I did not have money for the book. I got by without, and I doubt it would have changed much. He is a nice guy. The exams were above the learning level. He curves, but do not take if you need easy.
The lecutres were pretty boring but what econ lecture isn't. There was a decent amount of work for this class including lengthy problem sets due every few weeks. The TAs were helpful and that is where you could get most of your questions answered and they would always be monitoring the chat during large lectures. Curves everything which is nice
Professor Suranovic is one of the most accessible professors at GW. He lectures quickly & in detail. The quizzes & final exam were difficult but so much easier if you tried the practice versions first. Class, quizzes, and final are curved. I made a career long connection by going to office hours. Work for the A. He will review grades if you ask.
Class final average was a 70, which is terrible for any course, much less a required economics course. Did all of the practice sets, watched his Youtube videos, not all of the questions are reviewed much less given any explanation beyond the answer. Office hours wasn't very helpful. Had to set an 80.1 and above as an A since majority did terrible.
Professor Suranovic is passionate about Econ, however he is not the best at teaching or gauging students understanding of it. We seemed to have a test every other week over concepts not covered in class. The entire class seemed to be struggling, and he often went at his own pace during lectures.
I took five classes this sem with all As but had to pass/fail this class. Seems like there's an issue with the prof and his teaching style rather than students' capabilities. We were graded 50/50 on bi-weekly quizzes and a final with no partial credit. Majority of class didn't know what they were doing even when there were a plethora of cheaters.
There are some professors who have done nothing but master a subject, doing what they love and excelling at it. Prof Suranovic is one of those, but unfortunately doesn't have the common sense to understand how most people learn and how difficult he makes questions. His jeopardy questions were some of the worst as they were barely covered in class.
the class was pretty difficult because he only have the grade based on weekly quizzes and 2 exams and the quizzes and the 2 exams were so difficult and he did not give enough time to do them avoid this professor with all the cost !!
Makes you watch hours worth of lecture videos that are literally the same as the in-person lecture. Blames his own pedagogical shortcomings (ie/ quiz average being a 62) on students. Quiz questions worded very poorly and contain uncovered material.
Nice man, however, the structure of class and assessments are subpar. There are hours of lecture videos that are the same as the lecture notes seen in class. The quizzes and exams will have material you are not familiar with and will be difficult to understand. He does curve the quizzes/tests but blames consistently low averages on students.
well, the professor is a good person, and the ppt looks nice. but the quizzes and exams are extreme difficulty. even when you listen to the professor carefully and review all the material, you still not familiar with that.
He is a great teacher and truly understands the subject. I took his International trade and economics class. My god this class is hard. I would review his textbooks, PPT, lectures, and even attend office hours. I would understand how to do his practice quizes, but during the real quiz it is a nightmare. He asks stuff that was not covered in class.
Ok so here's the thing. Watch the lectures online, take notes on that and you'll be fine. He goes on tangents in class that are not helpful. He also said some blatantly false things, mainly numbers from china etc.. etc.. the core theory he teaches is fine tho. Midterm is slightly tough and the quizzes can be a bit tricky.
The class is based on hrs online lectures, which can get very boring. He reviews lectures in class but I noticed in class, he explains certain concepts that aren't covered in the online lectures yet were on the quiz. Quizzes + Midterm were hard, made me believe I didn't study enough. Real Midterm was harder + more difficult than practice exams.
Professor Suranovic is a great professor. class was always a lecture of the next module however all the module recordings are online so its not necessary that you go to class. the quizzes were difficult but he does curve everything. the homework is just graded on completion. the midterm and final werent too bad, you also get a note card for both
Most of the class was already taught through online lectures, but the material is more engaging if you come to class. The TopHat tool was helpful with understanding content. Four quizzes, a midterm and a final; you must study for everything! This class was harder than I expected and make me believe I do not want to pursue economics as a career path
Fairly typical, sometimes boring intro econ with a special emphasis on ethics. All material is online which is nice for studying or if you cannot go to class. Fairly fast pace and it can be easy to get behind. Curve is nice if you consistently get 80s on quizzes. Midterm and final are long and somewhat difficult but you get a notecard for them.
He likes to go on tangents during class. We were the first section post online school and he had no idea what he was doing. He had us watch lectures online before class and then he was supposed to go more in-depth or do practice in class, but he ended up talking about politics. I learned entirely from my TA and his lectures were useless.
I didn't feel his lectures were extremely good or bad, but the real reason I did so well was bc I went to his office hours every week. He is really approachable and would help me with concepts I wasn't paying attention to in lecture. Some prior econ knowledge would help, but office hours & peer tutoring are great. more conceptual/ethics based.
This class is so bad! The only reason he has a good rating is because he's the best of the worst econ professors. He is a nice person, but his lectures are boring and he introduces material at an incredibly fast pace. His quizzes are hard and are completely based on the problem set questions from hw. The only good thing is that he has a high curve
Suranovic was a solid econ professor. I enjoyed the fact that he incorporates ethics into the class. However, he often purposely makes his quizzes confusing. There were times when I knew I understood a topic but he worded the question weirdly in hopes to trip students up. He does curve though and I ended with a decent grade.
Very good class, highly informative, and he posts all the lectures online. Participation is 5% of the grade, but I attended half the classes and got credit. The homework is the best way to study for quizzes, and everything is curved. You get a notecard for the midterm and the final, and there are 4 quizzes, and 6 HWs, but one is dropped for each.
I can't speak for how Suranovic compares to the other micro professors (who also have solid reputations), but he is a great professor in his own right. His incorporation of ethics provides applications to the real world and prepares you for macro. The one improvement this class needs is to eliminate the repetition of the lectures.
no textbook, instead all of the information he uses (including his slides) are on his website. there are also prerecorded versions of every lecture, all of which have the same if not more information than the lectures. easily the best of the three micro econ professors! first year elliott kids, TAKE SURANOVIC FOR MICRO!!
Knowledgeable about Microeconomics and big on ethics. Grades are Curved.
I liked that Suranovic was big on ethics. Other than that, the class was BRUTAL. Compared to the other micro professors, he's the best, but his class is still ridiculously hard. Without the heavy curve I would have tanked, despite studying relentlessly. Quizzes are 90% convoluted graphs & math. He also had some questionable takes on climate change.
best out of your options. will fully explain unrelated material and is super passionate about econ, which makes him a great professor, but you WILL need to study on your own time to cover material on the quizzes. super super chill- you'll get the grade you work for.
awful. purposefully designs his class to deflate grades, adding in pointless things to trip people up. his lectures have little to no relation to the assessments. he spends the first half of the semester teaching niche concepts like "edgeworth boxes" that he essentially made up, and then you rush through actual econ after the midterm. avoid
Ethics focused, half of each quiz isn't math-based. Ethics is common sense and easy. Out of four quizzes, one is dropped, all of them equal 10%. Midterm and final are exactly like the quizzes. Participation is hw completion based, can put random answers for credit. Lectures are long but interesting and teacher is passionate. TA's aren't the best.
Amazing professor. Great at explaining concept and gives homework that really helps you understand what was taught at lecture. Hard grader, quizzes are tough but participation and homework really do help. Took him as my first Econ class in college and could not have been better!
He's definitely the best out of the Micro professors. But, his class was still brutal. He is very passionate about the class he teaches which causes him to talk about items that haven't been discussed and proceeds not explain said topics. Grading is pretty harsh but the curve is nice though.
Suranovic is very passionate about economics, but the lectures can get boring. You definitely need to pay attention and study intensely to do well in the class (majority of students get a C). If you aren't gonna go to class, make sure you're doing the homework and reviewing a lot. Can be brutal at times, but he's a good guy.
the final is SO bad.
If you put in some work this class is not that bad. A few hours a week outside of class is enough studying to get an A. Suranovic is a nice guy and does a good job teaching the material.
Suranovic is the best option for ECON 1011. He is very passionate about economics which makes his lectures more interesting. His lectures can be boring, and readings are sometimes long, but if you pay attention you will do well. The class is hard, but he cares about his students and wants you to succeed. Use office hours with him or TAs.
Although attendance isn't mandatory, you should go because there are random participation questions. It is a difficult class but you can make it easier for yourself by actually doing the readings and problem sets, don't just bs it for the completion credit.
Best 1011 class to take, hands down. Would highly recommend understanding the subjects as they are taught, otherwise the things you don't know pile up.
I enjoyed the ethics discussions in his class. The tests and quizzes are much harder than the assigned problem sets but, going to be honest, I got bored in most lectures and didn't pay attention. My fault.
The best Econ 1011 class. Lectures can sometimes be boring as he often goes on tangents, but you will do well if you pay attention and do the problem sets. Try to fully understand the concepts because the quizzes and tests often have curveballs that were never on any of the problem sets or practice exams.
Great econ professor. Provides all necessary resources for success: slideshows, taped lectures, online textbook, and quizzes help students prepare for assessments. Study for everything! He curves the overall grade. TA's were not incredibly helpful. Definitely recommend Suranovic (typically only available fall semester).
This class is primarily the reason I chose to switch my major. It was incredibly difficult because the class was really only based on a midterm, final, and 4 quizzes. There are homework and problem sets to complete too but they didn't count as much of the grade. A lot of the tests also weren't similar to the problem sets that are assigned. Beware!!
He is OK. He designed the structure for the course only using his own readings and problem sets. Therefore there are no additional practice problems or additional reading to help. He expects you to come to class having read the text so he moves quickly during lecture. Hw, problem sets aHis quizzes and tests are hard.
I recommend taking Prof. Suranovic for ECON1011. His lecture is easy to catch up with, and he has pre-recorded and recorded lectures. Grading is somewhat strict. Tests and quizzes are all curved. Grading is composed of Math Assessment 5%, Class Participation 10%, Problem Sets 5%, 4 Quizzes 15%, Midterm 25%, and Final 40%.
If you are not an Econ major do NOT take this class. It is very fast paced and he is the only teacher that makes you learn about the ethics of economics. Tests are extremely hard and will make you cry. All the work you do doesn't really matter by the end of the semester because the final is worth 40% and will make or break you.
Use of TopHat encouraged class engagement. Happy to help at Office Hours/via email. Grading structure was clear and consisted of 1 Midterm, 1 Final, TopHat Participation, HW, and Quizzes. Exam questions could be less subjective and difficult, though. Go to class, do your TopHat, you'll be fine. I got the grade I did mainly b/c I didn't show up.
As someone who is not great with math, he was really helpful and accessible. He took my strengths and weaknesses into consideration and guided me on areas I had to focus more on. This class in particular has very clear grading, and the lectures were super interesting as well. It was a mix of academic and real life discussion, which I enjoyed.
Learning from Suranovic, feels as if you're learning from a robot. His lectures are very very monotone and unengaging, which makes a somewhat interest topic very uninteresting. His quizzes and exams are very difficult and filled with hard trick questions that are not covered in class. Overall, I would not take this professor for this class again.
Enthusiastic lecturer, explains things in a straightforward manner and curves too. Would definitely recommend!
Lectures are worth attending, and the textbook is helpful. Grading is strict, but use unstuck ai and practice problems to prepare for the challenging exams. Overall, it's a tough but manageable class.
Good professor, take his class for easy A in ECON 2180
Good professor. I thought his lectures were interesting. Otherwise participation and hw is graded through questions asked through TopHat based on completion. If you want the A though you need to study a little more for the tests and quizzes, there are questions to separate A students from B students.
If you put in the work, you will get an A. 6 quizzes, you can drop 2, 1 midterm and 1 final. Tophat due before class, and the quizzes and tests are straight out of past exams/Tophat/HW questions. Lecture attendance is semi-mandatory, discussion section is. His lectures were very off-topic sometimes, but if you go to office hours you're chilling
It's a tough class if you're not into economics, Suranovic it is not as clear as you would want with the content. Quizzes are tough since they have gaps in the material taught in class. TAs are the most important, make sure they are accessible and clear up concerns.
Overall, the course is a good amount of work. Just don't forget to do the homework. Lectures are kinda just repeats of the readings. I would take him again, but I would also realize that for an intro course, this was a slightly heavy courseload.
Suranovic is really passionate about micro (i really liked his emphasis on ethics) and more than anything, he is super accessible outside of class. Grading criteria is pretty clear (4 quizzes, lowest is dropped, midterm, final + HW) and while you have to put in work, overall it is a good class.
Lectures were engaging and included lots of real-world examples. Suranovic was incredibly kind during office hours and will make sure all your questions get answered. Exams and quizzes are very similar to practice problems and the final grade gets curved. This class is the reason I changed my major to economics.
great professor! very kind to his students and the TA's were amazing!! gives you a good understanding of econ and spends time explaining how it applies to the real world. 50% lectures mandatory, do the easy hw and problem sets (completion grade), 4 quizzes, 1 dropped, great curves on midterm and final. study hard and you got this!!
I have been doing Econs for quite some time but I have never been that bad at it like in this class. He is overall a really caring professor and accessible outside of the class but the course which was supposed to me on micro had a lot from macro. His lectures were robotic and didn't make a lot of sense to me.
While he may not be the most interesting lecturer, he does explain things mostly clearly, and uses in-class practice questions (graded on completion, not correctness) to check student understanding. Homework is graded on completion, which is not the best for comprehension, but is easy to do. Quizzes do not always reflect the practice sets.
So boring. He rants about ethics for the first hour of the lecture and then rushes to cover the material he's supposed to. Do not take his class it is so boring. He requires you to go to 50% of classes and answer attendance questions, but if you don't go to class you can still answer the attendance questions if you log on.
Suranovics class is pretty light. Didn't prepare well for the final so ended with an A-, but otherwise skipped lectures and spent about an hour a week on this class. Incredibly boring lectures as they are copied exactly from the textbook you will have to buy to gain participation points. Take if you need the credits and dont want to do much work
Have to buy $75 tophat, no exceptions. Material is dense. I would recommend going to every office hour/lecture. I would not take his class again first quiz average was a 66.
Textbook is super helpful, CW and HW are graded by completion so it gives you some breathing room if you're having a particularly busy week, quizzes and tests are similar to the problem sets, TA and professor were both super accessible, an A is definitely achievable if you put in the work.
I've historically done very well in economics. This course however was awful. Tests often had problems that weren't discussed in class or lectures. TA's were unhelpful and often did not cover what would be on the tests. Material was abstract and based on his own research and therefore not online. Nice guy but not a good course. Avoid if you can.
He is a great professor, I would definitely take him again for any other econ class. His lectures are well-organized, and he always has cool stories to share related to the topic of class which makes his lectures engaging. Attendance is not mandatory for either lecture or discussion. a few quizzes and 2 exams.
He reminds me of Glenn from superstore with a mellow-toned personality. I am a student who attends most classes, but simply do not find any use attending his. He is very theoretical and makes easy topics very complex (when they do not need to be). You get quizzed and tested on the problem sets, these problem sets are never reviewed in class.
This class requires a lot of self-teaching. The lectures are boring but most assignments are graded on completion. There are 4 main quizzes in the year plus a midterm and a final. All the quizzes and exams are based on the lectures and make up most of the grade.
The lecture = homework but 75 minutes. Class is graded on a curve, meaning if everyone does bad, you do better and vice versa. Coursework is manageable but so boring and deceptively EZ that it becomes a lot harder. Actually do the work or you won't do great (B) (current class avgs: Quiz 1 = 65%, Q2 = 55%, Midterm 1 = 58%). Cuz of the curve, all Bs
If you took an econ course before his class, throw most of that info out the window. His course is extremely different content-wise from other professors here (no graphing). The tests and quizzes make up a giant chunk of your grade besides homework which is completion. Class is curved, but be prepared to do a lot of self-teaching for this class.
Nice professor, grade is mostly based on three quizzes and two tests. Keep up with lectures and practice problems, and you'll do well.
He is a good professor and knows a lot about the topic of international trade. But he explains it in a very lengthy way. Lecture materials are not difficult to understand, but it does get boring over the span of an hour. He loves to talk about data and would like you to understand approximate data points like the GDP values of certain countries.
Pretty terrible professor, can tell hes really interested in the subject but just does not teach it well. I have never ever gotten a C before in my life, and this class well, it is the first. Mckay is terrible too, dropped his class, this also sucks because u have to pay $75 for tophat for this professor. Overall goodluck
Suranovic's class is awful point blank he's unhelpful class is confusing and essentially a weed out economics course. I sepnt a chunk of time essentially just teaching myself and class was not structered well. I highly reccomend not taking this class and taking micro at a community college over the summer.
Prof. Suranovic himself is good, 2180 is just a lot of content in not a lot of time. Tests are pretty difficult and worth 70% of your grade, so get ready to study. You get a flashcard worth of a cheat sheet which helps. Suranovic is energetic and very knowledgeable, spent a lot of time on US-China trade relations which was very timely.
Do the problem sets and understand why you got some wrong, you'll def a B+. 50% attendence and hw completion will count, but the final is worth 40% of your grade. The final was easy, but you can't skip studying in this course. You do have to self teach yourself sometimes since he doesn't cover any practice problems so apply concept yourself here.
I have taken Econ in high school and I can almost say this course was taught signigantly worse given it was the same conent. He likes to overcomplicate every simple concept and I can honestly see why majority of the class struggled throughout the course. What I will say is that the curve is so big that it practically bumps your grade dramatically.
You can survive without being an econ expert if you actually study hard. Suranovic was an average professor for a large lecture, but I didn't feel like his lectures corresponded to what was on the tests and quizzes. The curve was quite generous and the attendance policy was very lenient. I would recommend getting close to and working with your TAs.
He's very knowledgable but lectures were extremely dry. Only half of all attendance is mandatory, better to learn on your own with the lectures he posts online. Tougher content than I anticipated, but put in the effort and you will be fine.
he made econ 1011 way too hard. lectures had NOTHING to do with what was in exams. they were just a waste of time. exams were way too hard. he is nice but just not a good teacher
Suranovic really does his best to make the class manageable, only requires 50% participation to get an A, and tries to explain in clear terms. But the material is just inherently hard unless econ comes easy to you. Textbook practice problems help a lot, but there are always test Q's that weren't taught. Manageable to do well with lots of effort.
very friendly and supportive professor, his class is really fun, and I sometimes have discussions with him after class, he is very supportive and a great professor.
The lectures were honestly hard to follow for me— wonderful guy but they were a bit boring. Discussion is where you need to pay attention and work HARD. The readings aren't checked but you have to do them because lectures don't correspond well to tests. overall an easy class but you need to have some self-motivation to actually pay attention
I had to drop this course because it was so bad. Lectures were boring and discussion sections were unhelpful. You also have to pay for the tophat course. Just take another prof
His lectures are very interesting if you actually try to pay attention. Its an intro class so the content isn't super difficult, and the online readings cover the same material as the lectures, so they arent super necessary. Overall a good professor who is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about economics. (Bonus for using chatGPT in lectures)
I love this professor. Econ is a hard subject that I struggled with in high school but he explained concepts in a really understandable way. He also knows its a hard subject so there are a ton of resources to get extra help when you need it. if you lock in, put in the work, and spend time on this class material, you will be fine.
His lecture is very interesting, he gives many real-world examples about the Econ concept he is discussing, and being very clear about the limitations of Economics, also every class he provides further reading and different views and ideas from different economists. and he is very very reachable.
You'll realize soon after meeting Suranovic that the online textbook that you have to pay for was written by him. The readings and lectures are rambly nonsense. Somehow he takes a subject so easy and makes it a pain. He's also not supportive at all. Everything uttered in his lectures and textbook is so forgettable. Thanks for a terrible semester.
Prof. Suranovic is obviously very knowledgeable in his field and passionate in what he teaches. He is very affable if you approach him in person to ask questions or just for a chat. Some people don't like his class, but he does teach us a lot of concrete, useful things. 4.5 stars
Does a good job going over broad concepts, but you need to meet with him personally or a TA/La to go over specific problems. Very accessible and open to talking about economics. You have to buy a textbook he wrote, but it is a well written textbook. Rambles in class but lectures are recorded. Weekly quizzes in discussion, make sure your TA is good.
Since the textbook he uses is written by him, his lectures are pretty boring as he spews out what he wrote in the textbook verbatim. That said, still better to show up to class. Keep up with the readings, do the problems thoroughly (not just do get them done), and pay attention in discussion for a good grade. Ten-question quizzes every friday.
honestly for an intro econ class it wasn't bad at all. the textbook was written directly by the prof so the lectures followed along really well. if u read the textbook and paid attention in class the material wasn't hard at all. weekly quizzes but they are helpful when reviewing for the final and midterm. good curve in class so easy to do well.
Despite his bad reviews, I definitely recommend taking him for the econ requirement, the readings were really helpful and his lectures were very clear. The weekly quizzes and problem set homeworks were useful for keeping up with the material. I also like how he incorporated ethics into the course and tried to make the lectures interesting.
Take another professor if you can! 😍 Quiz every Friday!!!!! Midterm and final questions will be the most obscure things that were mentioned in lecture and on hw like one time. Need 50% participation on hw, lecture, and problem sets to pass that aspect. Lectures are long and boring. Nothing against him, just made it hard to learn.
Was a bit intimidated by this class at the beginning of the semester but ended up loving it by the end. Suranovic is so kind and helpful and I definitely recommend attending his office hours whether to talk about Econ questions or just pay him a visit.
Professor Suranovic was good but you have to pay attention and keep up if you don't have economics experience. Can be a lot of work but keep up and don't fall behind.
Attendance is not mandatory but online questions for credit. Professor is almost to smart to teach and does not teach the material well in the lectures. The majority of your grade is the midterm and finals. I would recommend peer tutoring or utilizing the TAs.
