He is weird! he yells at you if you don't know how to do something EXACTLY right! he wrote the lab book, so he thinks he knows everything! don't ask him who's in charge, he'll probably yell at you for not knowing it's HIM! he also wears funny clothes!

This guy is intimidating and he makes you scared to mess up or ask questions. Maybe he's not really mean, but he doesn't have very good people skills.But the GTAs do mostly everything and they're really nice.

Complete jerk. Labs are not that hard but take a long time. The lab manual and cd-rom videos, both produced by him, are very unclear. Most of the TAs on the videos and in the labs do not speak English making everything more difficult that it has to be.

The worst lab professor ever...uses his goggles as a fashion statement...he knows everything so do yourself a favor and dont question him...just remember to wear your goggles and apron along with closed toed shoes...just dont pay any attention to him

everyone seems to not like him but i didnt have a problem with him. he will help you better than the ta. i like the fact that he knows what he is doing. always look at the cds before you go to class though, they help a lot too.

I honestly think that he believes that Chemistry is the best thing that ever happened to this world. He will yell and embarass you if you don't have your goggles on as soon as you walk in the door. Don't forget to turn in your lab key. Watch the cds.

The Goggle Nazi is hienously hard to understand and he freaks out on you if your wearing sandals or not wearing goggles. Definitly avoid slipping on your paper booties and dropping your thermometer.

Follow all lab instructions or he will get you!! He'll send you home if you dont have on closed toe shoes! Lab's are easy though just read over them and you will be fine. He lives for these labs!

He raises his voice/yells too much. It made most of us nervous. (More test tubes were dropped while he was in the room than at any other time.) But he's harmless. The class is easy if you read the labs and watch the cds beforehand. Study for the final.

Swann is not that bad. If you follow the instructions for the lab, it is a breeze. The TAs teach the class anyway, so just watch the CDs and read the manual. You'll do fine.

HE teaches every Chem 1030 lab, and by teaches i mean all he does is hire korean and austrian Gta's who don't speak english then yells at you for not having on those goggles, what a tool. NO biggie though class is a joke.

GTA's Never speak english so make sure you know what your doing before class. His online quizzes are REALLY hard but it depends as there are different versions so make sure you read the questions. My friend always got easy ones but the answers are generally in the lab manual. WEAR YOUR GOGGLES

The GTA's are usually helpful, but only if you can understand what they're saying because they're almost all foreign. The quizes are really hard, but the answers are almost always on the slide shows online. Doing good on your lab reports makes a huge difference.

swann is helpful but make sure you follow the lab rules. gtas are helpful if you can understand them (mine were chinese and kenyan). take your time on quizzes and just do the lab reports and you'll be fine.

Easy class, but depends on your GTA's. You can glide through the class without listening to them or Dr. Swann. Do the lab, put some effort into the reports, and you'll have an easy A. The final was kinda hard though, so don't underestimate it.

Mr. Swann is in and out a lot, and leaves the instruction to the GTAs. Watch the lab cd before taking the weekly online quizzes. Do the lab reports and show effort. Study for the lab final at the end of the semester.

Crazy man. He's never in there, but I had a problem with a lab report grade and he yelled at me when I went to see him. He seems to yell a lot, don't be intimidated, just follow directions. The online quizzes are a bi**h sometimes. Get someone to help you if you're bad at Chemistry.

He's a Nazi about wearing the right shoes to labs. He's in and out of the room alot, and yells if you ask him a question. It's kind of inevitable to have him if you're taking Chemistry, but he made the class a very hard one to handle.

He's not clear on things but the lab is easy, just come do the labs and study for the quizzes. He will fuss at you if you don't have on the right shoes. ALSO, wear your goggles and aprons at all times! He's loud, but he doesn't hollar AT YOU. He yells so everyone can hear what he says the first time, so don't be horrified. You'll be fine.

I just can't seem to concentrate on what I am doing during the labs. He tries to explain what he expects and he has it written on the board, but everyone looks at each other trying to figure out what to do. Good luck on finding a GTA who can speak good English. I stayed stressed during lab. Seriously, I would prefer being in the lab by myself.

Overall, Dr. Swann is actually a nice guy once you get to know him. When he hollars, he's not angry. The lab rooms are big and he wants you to hear everything the first time. He has a very interesting way of whipping in and out of the various lab rooms, announcing tidbits of info to keep in mind. He wrote the lab manual so he can be helpful when you ask him an intelligent question regarding your experiment. The TAs all have very thick accents. Always write down the important values on the board for your calculations!

He's seriously not a terrible guy. He hollers alot not because he's pissed, but so everyone in the place can hear him. Just read the lab book, watch the videos, and listen to him and the GTA's. Pay attention and focus on what to do so you don't be clueless and/or screw up. Some quizzes are easy, while others aren't (when he throws in some math).

I've got an A in the lab and I still think this guy's anass... I've watched him give people a hard time for just about anything. If you really want to get under his skin, make a point to go to the lab building a day you don't have lab, and just sit around wearing sandals. Wait for him to come over and see how long you can string him along.

Yeah...Swann's a bit strange...but he was never in our classroom so I didn't have a problem. I had great GTA's...especially Ms. Gao. Made an A in the class and I thought I was gunna have a B or C. The labs are pretty easy; just be sure to read them before lab and you'll do fine. Not only are the videos helpful...they're entertaining, too.

Very stange man, but he will help you if you need it. Can be an ass but hes really a pretty good guy from what I can tell. Overall I liked him, and made a B in my lab without trying too hard (didnt study for the final, put an hour max into the lab reports, didnt do that well on the WebCT quizzes and even missed a few)

Seriously don't be scared of him. He will get short with you if you do something that he told you not to do OR if you don't have on your goggles and aprons. But you have to realize you're dealing with chemicals and glass. If someone was to get injured they would sue the school, that's probably why he's such a hard @$$ about goggles and flip-flops!

Mr. Swann is a very weird man. He does not know how to dress or communicate well. He is very strict, and gets on to you for wearing sandals to lab and not wearing your goggles. He is not that nice or helpful either, but you have to take him if you take CHEM 1030 or CHEM 1040.

It wasn't so much Swann, it was the whole lab period! Instructions in the workbook can be confusing and then you have GTAs who can't speak or understand little English. Everyone in the class got answers from someone else and labs never lasted past an hour. Also, wear your goggles and aprons like you're told! Seriously, you're dealing w/ chemicals!

Swann makes me laugh with all his mannerisms. He isn't really that active in the lab, it's mostly your GTA's so it isn't too bad. His WebCT quizzes aren't hard if you watch the lab video and read the manual first. Just do what you're told (goggles, apron, and shoes) and you'll do fine.

He yells at you when you can't listen to the instructions before lab because he's all the way down the hall screaming. Pretty pointless. The WebCT quizzes are a joke, just use the lab manual. He's nauseatingly anal about shoes, goggles, and aprons. But he's never actually in the lab, so you rarely have to deal with him there.

He doesn't care at all for helping students. If you ask him a question all he does is yell at you. His experiments are mediocre and not hard though. Get a GTA that speaks English!-He yells announcements at the beginning of lab-like anyone knows what he is actually talking about.-But if you take chemistry-you have to take him too.

Right before the lab final this year I had to be absent and he was very helpful in getting my makeup final and my check out scheduled. He's very dorky, and, he's not the best public speaker (briefing before experiments were very hard to understand) but he's very helpful.

This guy is pretty crazy, but so long as you have on closed toed shoes, goggles, and your apron, you're fine. You can't understand the briefing before lab, but it doesn't matter because it's all written on the board, and the book explains the rest. WebCT quizzes are straight from the book, and the CD tells you how to do every single calculation.

this man is hilarious. he always wears short-sleeved button up shirts tucked into his pants which are pulled up too far. he freaks out if you have open-toed shoes on or you arne't wearing your apron or goggle. he's a little harsh but you only see him right before you lab so it's not too bad. if you just laugh at him he's not so horrible.

To be fair, I never asked for help, but I'm sure if I had he would have helped me. He may have been annoyed, but he would have helped. He lets TAs grade everything, so really the difficulty of the class is determined by the TAs you get. I ended up with an A, but I did have to work for it. Lab reports suck majorly.

He struts the hallway to speak to everyone before class, otherwise that is the only time he really talks to anyone. The GTA does grade lab reports and they are usually pretty easy about everything as long as you show your work, whether or not your answer is correct you'll usually get credit.always take the quizzes before class!

Well, you don't really see a lot of him, unless if he's yelling at you to put on your goggles. He's odd, that's for certain. He does make the WebCT quizzes, which usually aren't that bad. He also made the final this semester, and it was okay. It definitely could have been worse. Easy A if you do well on your lab reports.

I actually really like Swann, he's a very knowledgable man, and someone has to get one to us about wearing our goggles, or it's his butt on the line if someone gets hurt. I really do like him though, just wear the goggles & aprons, and he'll like you.

He is the most ineffective teacher ever. If you ask a question, he will get angry with you and treat you like you are the biggest idiot. His online quizzes (so far) have questions that seem to have one answer, but he makes them tricky with his wording. Impossible to hear pre-lab breifings he gives.

WEAR CLOSED TOED SHOES!!!!! He looks at everyone's feet before the lab starts so don't think you can get away with it! As long as you wear the right shoes, he's a very nice guy and he'll help you if you ask. he checks for goggles and aprons too, but he's not quite as mean about those as he is the shoes.

This guy was clearly picked on as a younger man... probably still today. imagine that guy in your high school that nobody talked to but assumed he was good at some science... yea that's this guy. except now he has a position of power over you and isn't afraid to let it be known. however, i found that he is approachable, just not with dumb questions

total waste of time. GTA lost a lab report so i received a zero and he could not have cared less. made perfect on all other labs and almost perfect on his quizzes (which are impossible to do perfect on 1/2 the time due to his errors), made an A on the final and still received a B. good luck you'll need it

Chem 1031 lab is stupidly easy, you can have completely wrong answers on lab report and as long as format is right you miss 2 points. Swann, however, has problems. Major power trip over his lab students. Always yells, never makes eye contact, gets mad at the dumbest things. That being said, he is hilarious. Ignore him other than for comical value.

This is honestly the meanest and strangest person I've ever met in my life. He wears the same Hawaiian print shirts every week, and thunders up and down the hall making people feel inadequate and worthless. I'm not sure what bully beat him up when he was younger, but he def has an inferiority complex and takes it out on us.

He is crazy about the rules. Do not get caught with sandels on or not wearing your goggles and apron. He stomps up and down the hall looking for someone to yell at. Lab is fairly easy just make sure to follow the guidelines in the lab book for the lab reports.

Just wear the shoes. Don't put on your goggles and apron until after the slideshows. Make sure you listen to his speech before class. You don't see him much, so be sure to get to know your GTAs. Do the lab reports, they aren't that difficult. Don't worry about your percent error, the GTAs just don't want you to cheat by changing numbers.

Experiments are fun if you are interested in chemistry. Swann is horrible. He never makes eye contact and is not willing to help students. He is near useless to the lab, so make friends with your GTAs(they are the real lab managers). Be sure to follow the rules. Swann cares more for the rules than if the students know how to complete the lab.

Steve is a pretty cool guy. Make friends with your GTAs, wear what you are supossed to, and follow the report process in the lab manual. You will get a good grade if you review for the exam.

"Put your bookbags and other personal effects in the nooks by doors." lol. He is the worst, stay under the radar. Not helpful at all and very rude. Definitely got picked on... a lot. GTAs try and help, but his final is ridiculous: know exact chemicals used in such and such experiment. Final is everything from class and stupid stuff from the lab.

not a bad teacher. very organized and makes his expectations or students very clear. weekly quizes on the next lab, and you have a week to do your lab reports. on the other hand, he needs to learn how to smile & not snap at people for little things. the good part is that you really only see him for breifings before lab, so pray for a good GTA's.

So he is not in class, he has us do the stupidest labs, and on top of that do them multiple weeks in a row. It was a waiste of time, I learned more by sleeping then going to this class. On top of this, he is one of the rudest guys I have ever met, Its called common cortousy, learn it.

Make sure you follow his rules, always wear the right shoes! Very demanding, never piss this man off! Don't bother watching the videos, just read the lab beforehand. Most GTA's are pretty lax on the grading (Steve doesn't grade lab reports). Study old lab quizes for the final. Lab usually is only about 1 hour (not 3 like on your schedule).

He's a very weird guy. Don't take him seriously and he's not that bad. I found him to be pretty funny. The class is a complete joke other than the final. Our GTA's told us it was pretty basic, but it was very picky (at least my version was). Know all calculations and you should be fine though. As for lab reports, just follow the format and get an A

Stay out of his way, don't talk while he's talking for the first 5 minutes, and for the LOVE of God wear closed toed shoes.. he'll leave you alone. Do your reports like the book says and you'll make A's, and actually read the stuff you're supposed to and remember it during labs so you won't have to study as hard for the final.. it's killer.

I have had him for CHEM1031& 1041- when you get to 1041 he gets much nicer. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY WEAR CLOSED TOED SHOES. The final is the hard part, but the actual labs and reports are fine except for the calculations depending on how good you are at math that is not taught to you. Again, WEAR CLOSED TOED SHOES...that or drop the lab.

He is probably the most hateful person I know. He actually made a girl cry because she talked during his oh so important announcements. But if you have to take his class wear closed toe shoes every lab and ALWAYS leave your goggles on. Make friends with the TA's also. They are extremely helpful and also hate him.

Don't talk during his announcements. Wear closed toed shoes. Definitely have your apron and goggles on when you're in the lab. Other than that, he won't bother you. Make friends with your GTA's! They grade your reports and are much more understanding than Swann. Final is pretty difficult but grades are raised at the end.

Swann seems like an angry person who loves to dish out his anger onto his students. He gets to way to mad over the smallest things. WEAR SHOES!!! This is a must or you will endure the wrath of Swann. I am glad I don't have to take this guy ever agian and I feel sorry for the people who do. Just go to lab and BS everything u do and u will do fine.

Swann is scary and creepy. Hard to hear his debreifing lectures before class.Googles,apron,&shoes nazi. As long as u take quizzes & read lab b4 hand you will be fine. Lab reports are really easy calculations are hard because there is little help. GTAs grade reports so no worries. He is hardly around anyway.

this guy is ridiculous. it is humorous how goofy and rude he is. he walks around the halls like a gorilla. his left arm is awkward and god forbid you should forget your "close toed shoes". good thing is, you only have to deal with him at the beginning of lab. DO NOT FORGET YOUR SHOES or be prepared for him to embarrass you in front of everyone.

He is extremely rude so never go ask him a question, always go to your GTA's, take advantage of them cause most of the time they'll pretty much do the lab for you. Swann is VERY weird. GTAs grade all of your work, so he really doesn't even matter. For the love of God, WEAR CLOSED TOE SHOES!!! Show up for the lab briefings on time, or you will have to make up the lab...on Friday...at 3:00pm. Read the lab, watch the videos, and pay attention to the slide show at beginning of class.

This guy has no idea how to treat people. Do everything he says and don't interrupt him when he's talking or he will flip out. During the lab just be extra careful when he's around, just ask your GTAs for help cause they're much more understanding, overall labs aren't hard though, just try to avoid dealing with this guy.

Not as bad as everyone says. He's just an odd man. All you have to do to make him happy is wear closed toe shoes. Also, he's not even really your teacher. You have GTAs once you get in the classroom and barely even see Swann after that. Do not talk when he's explaining the experiment and you will most likely be fine.

They are typically really easy and you get out at least an hour early almost every time. take him if you can handle his oddity.

If you're taking Fundamentals of Chem there's no way around him. Although he comes off rude, he is willing to help you if you need it. WEAR CLOSE TOED SHOES! Gives detailed instructions before every lab and the final consists of a lot of calculations.

He is very helpful if you need help, but the lab book will tell you EVERYTHING. If you keep up with his quizzes and lightly prepare for each lab, you will make an A. The final is the hardest part, and it's a bunch of calculations from what you did during the semester.

ALWAYS wear your goggles and apron in the lab unless you want to be yelled at in front of everyone! He can be intimidating but luckily he is hardly ever in the lab. GTAs basically run everything. Labs are not too hard if you read the lab manual and watch the videos beforehand. Labs are scheduled for 3 hours, but mine never lasted longer than 2.

He's absolutely crazy about aprons, goggles, and closed toed shoes. Labs aren't difficult, but if you have a problem with math or science, you'll have some studying to do for the final. inputing your teacher added points on Chem21 seems to be last on his priority list, but he inputs them eventually.

i enjoyed his labs. they usually dont last the full 3 hours. we rarely saw dr. swann, the GTA's were helpful, WEAR CLOSE TOED SHOES!!!!! he will call you out and he will make you go home and change! the class was relatively easy, but the final was slightly difficult.

He is a stickler for wearing closed toe shoes, goggles, and apron (goggles and apron were provided). You will have to pay some money to submit your labs online. The GTAs mostly run the show. The labs are straight forward and rather easy. He takes FOREVER to grade the labs. The online quizzes can sometimes be tricky and the final was difficult.

You can't avoid Swann if you're taking Chem lab so have to learn to deal with him. He was always in a much better mood in Chem 2 lab compared to him being ill in Chem 1 lab. The reports are longer, but find someone with an old book and you should have any trouble. Find a copy of the final (that everyone has) and it's the exact same!

Swann is a terrible person. He will not help you, doesn't matter if you just had a death in the family. His class isn't very hard but he is unfair in his treatment to his students and should not be allowed to teach anyone. The final is nothing relevant to the class. Unfortunately you can not avoid him if you have to take chem 1 or 2. good luck

He is really crazy about proper clothing. I got yelled at even when I was passing by him because I was wearing shorts. Once again, I was not even in the class, just passing by the chem building. You can't avoid him so you have to deal with his awkward talking and lots of yelling :-(

Manual, which he wrote, is required. He gives a pre-lab introduction by yelling/pacing up and down the hall, followed by a pre lab slide show with a video recording of himself. TA's 100% conduct the labs, and he refuses to respond properly to emails. Stickler about proper clothing, and in general numb to the education process.

Steve Swann is not an enjoyable person to be around, but that does not mean that the class is miserable. As with all labs at AU they ensure that you are prepared for the procedure by requiring an online quiz and a procedure sheet. Once I entered data incorrectly, emailed him to reset it, and he did 15 min. later. Yells, egocentric, but manageable.

His class is easy. He may seem intimidating, but he can be a nice person if you try to be reasonable. He will help you if you try and get it. Many people fail to get over how intimidating he is and do not enjoy the class. You really dont often have to even interact with the man. Take his class, it comes with chemistry. Its easy to deal with.

There isn't anything I can write that will prepare you for Dr. Swann. He is apparently insane, lacks any social skills whatsoever, and is a total egomaniac. However, this often turns out to be the most interesting part of lab. Just don't be an idiot- he emails like THREE TIMES before class about shoes, so WEAR CLOSED TOED SHOES.

Not a bad professor. He is a little harsh, but that is so he can keep the attention of 300 chatty students. His instructions are fairly clear, and his textbook is fairly straightforward.

Really a strange individual but in an entertaining way. A night and day difference from physics labs. Everything is extremely well laid out and planned. Some labs were actually pretty fun. He is harsh if you dont follow the rules but its not hard to do. The worst part is submitting the labs on Chem21. The site is terrible, class is still an easy A

Really don't understand alot of the hate the guy gets. He definitely is weird but you hardly ever see him after the first 5 minutes of class. GTAs taught the entire class. Most of the labs are really easy but boring. Some of the report calculations are hard to figure out as well and the final is really ridiculous.

Avoid him. You have to take his class, but don't talk to him. He is often blatantly wrong but he will never admit to it so don't bother talking to him. Don't bother buying the lab manual. He lays out copies of the lab before every lab.

What's the word I'm looking for? Quirky. While slightly odd, he is extremely helpful and responds to emails faster than lightning. He is what you would expect from the Chemistry lab professor. Just follow the rules, read the book for procedures, and DON"T BREAK ANYTHING!!! Replacement tools are expensive. All in all a pretty good class. Tough final

I made an A but this guy is so annoying. He yells at you for bringing water or uncovered shoes into the building let alone a classroom. Awful TAs. Very hard final. I hate Chem21 Labs. Repetitive slideshow at beginning of class that takes 30 minutes of lab. With that being said- the class is really easy and he at least responds to email quickly.

Terrible at making quizzes(they don't follow the book) and requires you to write a useless lab procedure that isn't even given back until class is over. His videos before class are hard to understand and often differ from what the book says, he also changes the lab a lot while never changing the book, a class that should take 1 hr takes 2 1/2...

The labs are very well organized. Take canvas quizzes and do the CHEM 21. Read the labs prior and write the procedure. Pretty straightforward and easy if you work hard.

Dr. Swann is unique. He is SUPER fast at responding to email. The labs are easy, quizzes are hard, and final is online. DO YOUR FINAL WITH A GROUP, otherwise you are sure to fail it. He does announcements before every lab and has a lab powerpoint explaining everything! Had I not taken my final alone, I would have had an A+.

this was my only B this semester. chem21 (which is where you submit your lab info) is awful and unclear. the way he lays out his lab is unorganized and confusing. he's unapproachable and the online quizzes are dumb. unfortunately there's no way of avoiding him so just prepare yourself.

Yeah Swann is a bit quirky, but if you actually go ask him a question about a report he's very helpful. The final is online (so you can do it with friends) and pretty easy. Put in the work to prepare, work with a group on reports (friends will catch your mistakes), and an A isn't hard.

The GTAs are helpless and Chem 21, where you submit your labs online is the worst site I have ever used in my entire life. Overall, a difficult class only because he makes it difficult.

I have no idea how Auburn has allowed this guy to "teach" this class. Chem21 is the worst online lab report system ever created and the GTA's are awful. Swann does not explain anything and your are expected to know all this stuff. The problem is there is not another lab instructor so the entire university is stuck with swan. Good luck.

This guy isn't so bad!!! First off, he responds to emails LIGHTNING FAST. This makes it easy to get help. He also does a pre-lab briefing and a pre-lab powerpoint. He is quirky and hilarious. GTA's are usually okay, but not great. You haven't experienced college until you have taken Steve Swann. Don't forget, TAKE ONLINE FINAL AS A GROUP.

Steve Swann can come off as kind of a jerk at first. But if you go and ask him questions he will always help you out. I think because hes so quirky he can be intimidating to students and that the reason alot of students dislike him. He is literally the fastest email responder EVER! Steve is cool just ask him questions.

Swann is extremely eccentric, which makes the pre-lab briefings kind of funny. He really doesn't show up much during the actual lab.Canvas quizzes are very hard. Becoming friends with the person next to you during lab will make the semester easier. Do not wait until the last minute to submit Chem21 data, and take the final with other people.

You always want someone who loves the material, and he loves chemistry. Although you really have no choice in your lab teacher, he does a fine job. Even after you do the lab procedure, you'll hear it at least twice more. The online quizzes are tough, but you'll enjoy it. The labs are cool.

If you watch the videos, read the lab manual, write your procedures, and listen carefully to the pre-lab instructions, this class is overall very easy. Even if you don't understand one of the above, the GTAs will always be available to help, and so will Swann, even though he sometimes is a bit unapproachable. You have access to all the answers.

Steve Swann is not the best. He is not approachable and has an attitude. He thinks he is clear in his lab manual and pre-lab, but he is very confusing most of the time. Pre-lab quizzes are difficult and I know people who lost letter grades because of them. Get together with friends for everything. Overall, it isn't hard, just harder than necessary.

Swann is kind of the meme of Auburn. Everyone makes fun of him but AU wouldn't be the same without him. Made a 71% average on his lab quizzes and an 85% average on the lab write-ups, but because I got an A on his final I got and A in the class, which makes me a fan of his. Thanks Steve!

The lab was ridiculous, but he's the only guy that teaches this course, so good luck. Timed Canvas quizzes are way too hard, and he ignored my email about them & later said he was "too busy" to help me. Online lab submissions aren't informative. I found myself reading the manual 20 times to understand because this guy's not helpful at all.

This guy gets kind of a bad reputation in my opinion. He is a legend at Auburn though. We rarely saw him in our actual lab. He made everything pretty easy in my opinion. I gave very little effort and still made a B. Anything less than an A in lab shows that you just didn't care much at all. I look forward to seeing him for Chem II Lab.

Swann gets a lot of flack for being a little quirky, but seriously he is awesome. His labs are not that hard if you take a minute to read over them and do the online quizzes. The online lab reports are a little time consuming and rough, but totally help your grade in the end. He has a great personality and LOVES chemistry.

Having Steve Swann for lab is part of the Auburn experience. I think he is pretty funny, especially when he sees people without close-toed shoes. Just show up and do the lab. They're really easy and never take the whole three hours. Use his book to write the prelab; it's usually a lot faster than listening to the powerpoints.

Swann is not a very pleasant guy, but it doesn't really matter because there is no one else you can take for Chem 1&2 Labs. The canvas quizzes are difficult, but the Chem21 lab reports are not that bad, just calculation heavy, but the lab manual walks you through it.

First let me say you have no choice in taking this guy, he's the only teacher at auburn. So instead of telling you not to take him I'll tell you how to pass (I got an A) there are hard quizes each week, don't expect to do well. Never miss lab or you will fail. Take your time on the online lab reports, Take the final with other ppl, it helps!

Steve is the man, and having him is part of the Auburn experience. Make sure to read the prelabs, as they help with the quizzes each week. If you can't find an answer in the book, email him and usually he'll change the quiz or let you retake it. Do the lab write ups final with a group. Make sure you season the buret. He has a magical cane.

Swann, freshman year, I will always remember. But he does care about students learning chemistry correctly. I'm a radiochemist now (radioactive chemistry), and I can still hear him barking orders in my head sometimes. I just remember him, before lab..."PUT your googles on!! GOGGLES ON!!!" Before his silly brief on a really basic Chem III lab.

Swann is pretty nice guy and never actually teaches the lab. The most challenging part of the class is the online quizzes because the questions can be somewhat tricky. Everything else in the class is pretty straight forward;

Steve Swann is a very.... interesting man. Chem I lab is a breeze if you just do what they tell you to do and how they tell you to do it. Quizzes may be picky but the answers are in the book and you can normally get him to change questions if they have multiple good answers. I passed with an A without really trying. Swann is quirky but really funny

I had him for lab, so I didn't see him too often. He has videos to watch as a tutorial before the lab. The quizzes on those can be difficult. He can come off as rude, but I don't think it's on purpose. I'd take him again. My grade got messed up at the end, but he was very quick to fix it when I pointed it out.

Swanasaurus Rex is a beautiful creature. He is peaceful, but feeds on students who wear open-toed shoes to class. Don't be caught without your goggles and apron on either!

Swann is funny. He has his own personality. Chem I was easy, but II is a differennt story. Labs aren't awful, but some do take time for Chem II. It's the final that is horrible. It asked ridiculous questions, with a 2 hour time limit. If you aren't in a group, you will FAIL! Got an A last semester, so I am hoping he scales the final.

Swann is a character. I never spoke to him personally but he seemed nice. His quizzes are challenging and you have to read the lab carefully before you go into lab. If you never go to lab you will fail.

Extremely quirky but pretty entertaining. You'll end up with an A if you can follow the formulas in the book and do the math. Close toed shoes are an absolute must. Responds to emails very quickly.

He will explain the lab to you repeated. Be very prepared. Be very quiet when he is speaking or he will throw a tantrum. Wear your lab gear. Ideally, if you do everything right, you'll never converse with him. Know your data is correct before you put it into the computer b/c he docks your grade for typos, errors, etc

The class itself isn't overly hard. Sometimes the chem21 lab reports are confusing but if you make friends in the class usually someone can figure it out. It's a lab so you kind of have to go. I hardly actually see him, but when I do he's not bad. The TAs do most of the work in the lab and if you have questions they will show you how to do things.

Prof. Swann is a legend at Auburn. If you are a COSAM major, Swann is the mascot. He is extremely quirky and seems intimidating at first. He obviously is into his line of work. Just go to labs, get your data, do Chem21, the quiz answers are on Coursehero, AND DO THE FINAL IN GROUPS (it's online). You will NOT finish if you do it alone.

This guy is more annoying than anything. He loves to hear himself talk. He makes you watch videos of himself explaining the lab, then he explains the lab to you in person, and finally you get to watch a slideshow narrated by him explaining the lab, all before you can begin working. His explanations take longer than the work you do.

this lab is fun. Stevo is an interesting guy. he thinks he's funny, but he isn't. if you don't wear closed toe shoes he will eat you alive. make sure you do the quizzes before the lab and all the lab reports. you will rarely see him except at very beginning of class and on the slide show you have to watch before each experiment. it gets annoying!

What a guy. He has inspired me to follow my dream of designing closed toed shoes for the benefit of lab techs all over the world. Steve is my idol. It is so uplifting how he walks through lab bellowing for young chemists to wear their "goggles and aprons for the duration." He is the type of man I would like to set my lonely, divorced aunt up with.

Swann is the legend of higher education chemistry lab. He truly loves his job. The labs are mandatory, and the reports that go along after online are not easy. Take the final in groups. If you get time, check out his sub-reddit. He always talks like he is on a loudspeaker, and he puts car selfies on the slideshow before each lab. You will love him!

Chem 1031 is by far the most unhelpful and unorganized lab I have ever taken. Dr. Swann is extremely rude over emails and takes forever to grade (It's finals week and I still have some lab reports that aren't graded). This is a required class unfortunately and I dreaded going every Monday afternoon.

If you don't do good in chem lab, it's your own fault. #1 You don't even interact with Swann unless it's about your grade. Most everything is done by TAs. #2 The class is just easy. He's clear cut and dry on directions. Do it, go to lab, do the lab, and you're fine. The man's a legend, he doesn't have time to fool with freshman nonsense.

He has his own subreddit and cult on campus. Other than that, the class is run by TAs. Do the lab reports, quizzes, and procedure page each week or you will fail an incredibly tedious class. I didn't learn any chemistry whatsoever. The lab reports are all calculations and number crunching. Final was all math and online, so DON'T DO IT ALONE!!

Canvas quizzes are hard; I failed almost all of them but still got an A in the class. Take the final with a group or you might fail it, to be honest. Labs are not hard and usually only take 1.5 hours or less. Swann is a cool guy and Im grateful he gave me an A.

The third most important man to Auburn behind Bo and Cam, he is a legend. Swann has enthusiasm that none can surpass and believes in closed-toe shoes and loves it. More seriously do your lab reports and take the lab with a group or somebody that has already taken it. Write your procedure every week. The quizzes are hard but don't count for much.

The Swannster is a strange creature. Didn't see much of him all semester except for prelab announcements, class was actually run by TAs so hope you get brilliant ones. He is pretty unclear about stuff when he talks in the hallway before your lab. I didn't know about the canvas quizzes until we had already had about 7 of them. And I missed the final because he was unclear about the deadline, however he did let me make it up. His PPs for how to do the labs are really nice though.

Very easy to understand. He always gives a short lecture before lab, and then he does a slideshow before you actually begin lab. People often ignore these, and that is why they do poorly on the lab write-ups. Easy A if you pay attention.

As far as I can tell, Canvas quizzes don't affect anything. The most important part of grading is the lab reports and final. If you want to do well on the final know how to do all lab calculations. Mr. Swann is NOT helpful. I witnessed him yelling at a student and make her cry during the semester for trying to get help from him for a lab. Good luck

Steve Swann is a strange guy but very nice. It is easy to understand what is asked of you and prepares you well for the lab. Canvas quizzes are hard, but they aren't worth a huge percentage of your grade. Chem21 can be annoying at times, but it's way better than a written lab report. Make sure you wear your goggles and aprons at all times!!

He teaches every intro chem lab. Swann is hilarious without knowing it. He is very organized, but the TAs run all of the labs and he just pops in sometimes. He is passionate about closed-toe shoes and his 80s-esque powerpoints. He seems like a nice man though- pretty good considering he's in charge of 500+ freshmen. Check his reddit-it's great.

Great guy, very funny. Most grading is done through the chem21 website, so you immediately know where you went wrong and can get partial credit for correcting your mistakes. Sometimes chem 1030 and chem 1031 don't match up. Watch the calculation videos online and you should be fine.

Don't ever miss a lab! The labs are super easy. Just make sure you submit chem21 correctly. The canvas quizzes are really hard so I suggest getting a group together to take them.. & they're all different. The chem lab final wasn't bad!

Always go to lab. It's an easy class as long as you show up. Be sure to befriend your lab partner and people around you because that's the biggest help. This class is taught by TA's who basically just sign off on your procedures and report sheet to be sure you actually came to class. The quizzes are not too bad as long as you read the experiment.
