Very clear on all topics and teachers with good methods. Planning was abit off for the course but he cant be blamed (damn book stores) Always willing to help out the class. Easily one of my fav profs.
Steve is easily one of the most helpful teachers out there. No matter what the problem, whether it has to do with his class or another class, he is always willing to help and give good advice.
steve-o was a solid prof.
HE is a really good resource to turn to in first year, but he is a hard teacher beacuse he marks hard, and you have a lot of assignments in yoru seminar-but NO EXAM!
took the course in 2003-2004, steve is the best teacher i have ever had in my life, PERIOD. this guy is not only helpful but HAPPY during the entirety of all classes, incredible. Get this guy however you can, i learned a ton about the world as well.
Well taught course. If you can take this course with Steve Tasson in the summer, instead of during the school year with MacNeil, DO IT!
One of the best Profs I've ever had at Carleton. Very knowledgable and is willing to help you out with anything. Even after the course was done, he still was willing to help with additional assignments. Really prepares you for 4th year thesis.
Great Prof, never had a better one. Very helpful, marks a little easier in the begining, and harder as it goes on. Very dynamic, very interesting ways to approach the subject areas, even if they are bland. Very happy, highly recommend the prof.
VERY helpful and nice prof. He is really understanding and flexible, always willing to give his students a second chance. Although, i did find his slideshow teaching technique to be very dry and hard to follow. But overall he is a great teacher.
steve tasson is the ABSOLUTE BEST prof i have ever had in my entire life...and i secretly love him...
Steve was an amazing prof. Anyone who plans on taking Laws 1000 should definitely take him! Good luck! And thanks Steve for a great year!
Steve was an amazing prof. His classes were always entertaining and the material was really interesting. I learned a lot from his class and it actually encouraged me to become a Law major. Exams are pretty easy too and the coursework is always interesting to do. I definitely recommend Steve! Great prof!!
Steve was by far the best prof I have had so far. he always has time to chat and clarify issues. He is encouraging, approachable, and an excellent teacher. I highly recommend taking his class.
love, love, loved him! I had an undeclared major and he was the reason i decided to major in law! Sooooo helpful!! Soooo nice!! My best prof thus far!
Hilarious.
Great Professor. Extremely helpful if you are interested in Law. Uses clear explanations in teaching and describing theories and topics in Law. Very Smart. You won't leave the class confused and disappointed with the lesson.
His class is extremely dry and hard to follow, let alone stay awake in. By far my worst favourite class. Tasson is funny though, which somewhat makes up for it. He tends to go off into tangents though.
Great prof!
amazing prof! makes everything clear yet attention to detail is still there. Very available for students to meet with, scheduled 2 or 3 times to meet with him during office hours and he had no issues rambling on with me for an hour about whatever contemporary law issues the discussion brought up. Definitely take one of his classes.
steve is awesome!
Stephen is a very nice, funny professor. He elaborates on his slides, so they do not seem dry. So attending class is mandatory in able to understand the slides! He is an overall sweet, helpful, and optimistic person. Keep up the great work!
EPIC! One of the best teachers I've had in my university career. Extremely helpful (very fair when it comes to essay/assignment evaluations) and very funny!
Definitely a very intelligent man. Loved the course, and it's actually what made me change my major to Law; highly recommended!
This guy rocks! He gives you all the time you need to have an open discussion on topics in the course and takes the time to explain things more clearly. Definitely take more classes with this professor. ;)
LOVED this class! He always kept the class interesting and talks in a manner that is easy to understand. Learnt a lot of interesting stuff. My favourite class of the year!
He was very insightful in explaining and would go on about things. It was boring at many times to the point that everyone had Facebook or games out in their laptop. His exams were EXTREMELY difficult considering a majority of the class did horrible, even with a bell curve. His lectures were very unclear if you miss class.
One of the best professors Carleton has to offer. Extremely helpful and understanding!
Definitely the worst prof I've had so far at Carleton. If you miss a class, his slides have so many abbreviations that it is tough to take the notes that you've missed. Strictly multiple choice exams which most of the class failed (average of 54). Good sense of humor, but other than that I'd definitely avoid in the future.
Awesome prof! Made lectures interesting and is very funny. He's approachable and very interested in helping students succeed. His slides are difficult if you didn't attend the lecture so attendance is definitely helpful. The material can be difficult but be sure to do the readings, attend lectures and discussion groups and you should be fine.
Stephen Tasson is an AMAZING prof. He is extremely clear in his lectures, and talks about current information. He is very helpful and will sit with students for over an hour trying to help them. Would definitly take another class with this prof!
Professor Tasson is a very funny, clear, and approachable professor. His lectures and written/essay assignments are great. However, his exams are painfully (almost unnecessarily) difficult. Best advice: study very, very, very hard. (Nevertheless, they are still painfully difficult even if you thoroughly study all the material.)
Hilarious and well-spoken prof who makes the material very interesting. Any material not mentioned in the slides or lecture isn't testable, which is great-- you really only need to text for papers. However, the slides are purposely vague so attendance is a must. Exams are easy to study for if you take good notes.
A really wonderful professor who actually seems to care about his students success and learning. His lectures strike a perfect balance between tackling the history of law and what is currently happening right now in the law (and he always cracks a few jokes in-between). His exams can be difficult, so take detailed notes and study very hard.
Definitely the best prof I've had so far! Law is sometimes a very dull topic, as we all know, but prof Tasson does a great job of keeping it interesting in lectures. People say his exams are hard but honestly, if you go to lectures and take good notes, they are no problem at all. He's also very funny! I recommend this class :)
Tasson was by far my favorite professor at Carleton! He makes jokes to keep the class entertaining, he's very intrigued in what hes teaching which makes the class all the more interesting. I really enjoyed LAWS1000 because of Steve! I hope he teaches some second year courses!
Outstanding professor. Excellent communicator, funny, passionate. I was very sad to hear that he said he was unlikely to teach laws1000 again. The next batch of students are missing out on an amazing teacher.
Definitely my favourite professor thus far! He's very clear, concise, and kind. He makes great jokes that gets the whole class laughing. His exams and assignments are super easy, as long as you're willing to put the time and effort in to do the work. I really look forward to taking a class with Tasson again!!!
Tasson is an awesome professor and seems like a genuinely great person overall. He clearly cares about his students learning and success a lot (a quality that is very important for first-year profs). He is also hilarious! If you attend all the lectures, take good notes, and study hard, then the exams and essay assignments should be fine.
WOW! What an awesome prof! Very helpful, very easygoing, and funny! Definitely the best prof I had this year. If you do your readings and go to class, you will do well!
He is an engaging professor. Although there are quite a bit of reading to complete, they are interesting & are usually ALL you need for the assignments. Attend lectures, do the readings, ask questions in your discussion groups, do the mock exams provided by PASS, and you'll do well on your exams. Questions! Questions! Questions!
easiest one of the best profs on the campus. he is extremely funny and takes most of his exam material straight from slides which he is basically everything on it while he gives a little more detail in class. you wont sleep in class because he keeps it really interesting. his exams are known to be a little harder but for this year, he loosed up
Great teacher. interesting lectures, easy going and nice. Final exam seemed a bit tough but I still did okay. He literally tells you "this will be on the exam".
Great Prof! Attend classes, read the text when you have essays to do, and pay attention to the slides. Make detailed notes in the lecture and its an easy A+
Great prof! Slides have a lot of abbreviations which is unfortunate if you miss a class, but he's a very easy going, funny and nice prof that I honestly enjoyed attending
Tasson is an amazing prof!! I highly recommend taking any class with him. He takes sometimes dry material and gives funny examples and scenarios to liven up the lecture and make you better understand the material! His exams are very fair, definitely need to buy the textbooks - can't pass without them
Tasson is hilarious in lectures and helpful after class, some find him difficult but you'll be fine if you show up to class and do the readings. To repeat: GO TO CLASS. DO THE READINGS.
Tasson was my favourite prof in first year. His lectures made a full-year law course interesting, and he gives you tons of cases to help you grasp the basics. The essays (though long and dreaded) were actually quite thought-provoking. If you actually take the time and study, the exams are pretty easy. Highly recommend his classes.
Great prof, makes law fun, hilarious, and he's always there to help you out.
Tasson is such a cutie!!! Although i didn't really like his lectures because he uses strange abbreviations, all he wants is for his students to do well. There are 2 long papers which were a pain, there were clear instructions for them. Study for the tests and they are easy! Very straightforward
Super long lectures, hard exams, and too many papers. But you're probably taking LAWS1000 for a credit and you've gotta take it with someone. I think Tasson is probably the most enjoyable because of his humour. Also, he gives lots of hints for the final exam.
He's a very interesting professor. Very passionate about what he teaches. Funny but likes his students to stay focused when it matters! Always gives many hints as to what will be on the exam! Lots of course reading, but it's worth it! Definitely liked the class!
Great professor. Super clear and provides a lot of interesting material. Lectures are good and he makes them enjoyable.
I took his laws 1000 class in my first year at 8:30 am every thursday and he honestly made it a pleasure to go into class every week from my off campus home. Tasson was an awesome prof who clearly loves his field and teaching it. He is really flexible with his office hours and is happy to answer questions. Academic love of my life right there.
Seems like he loves his job, cares about his students, so understanding of every question and though process and seems like he just want to help us learn. His classes are awesome, he is a very smart man and a pleasure to listen to for 3 hours.
Boring material- Very interesting prof. Only complaint is that I appealed a grade in November and had to contact him about 10 times before I got it adjusted... IN MARCH (lost like 15% on a paper for "not following implied guidelines" on the rubric - awful TA) Great prof just don't get screwed on a paper by TA because he certainly will not help!!
The reading was twice as much as my other law courses. I don't feel there was much specifity on where we should focus. He is a nice guy but... I felt not having a focus, it was hard to indulge in the readings. By the end of the course, I had to re-read everything. Overall there was a lack of direction until the last week. No predictability.
I found every reading assigned for this class to be excessively long and unbearably dry. Lectures were boring and impossible to concentrate. Steve lets opinionated students talk for far too long and consequently cannot cover all the material during class.
Lectures and slides are easy to understand! Reassures if concepts and theories were easy to comprehend or needed more clarification. Subject can be boring but he tries to make it fun! Also if you're a fan of Wizard Of Waverly Place dads, he's basically Jerry Russo's doppelganger
Tends to encourage a bell curve from the TAs. However, he's a very respectable man, and his assignments are well organized. You'll have to do thorough studying of concepts to pass the exam.
nice guy, however, the final exam was extremely difficult and covered concepts foreign to the class and many questions based off of obscure things he mentioned in class. i did fairly well on the first paper in the class, however, he pulled all the marks back and graded them harder because he wanted the class average to be a C.
What a lad. Truly cares about his work, and about communicating with students. Loves a good one on one conversation.
Professor Tasson is very considerate about deadlines. He gives pretty easy assignments. Makes the course content less overwhelming even if this is your first time taking this subject/course and even if you don't do the readings. Has a knack for explaining the content and making jokes during his lectures.
professors slides are awful and filled with abbreviated words (he's just lazy and rarely wrote the full word to anything) never finishes his lectures because he gets carried away about irrelevant things his slides are incredibly hard to understand tough to study for because his lectures are all over the place and doesn't give clear descriptions
Steve is overall a great prof. He's passionate about what he teaches and tries to make law as interesting as possible, as it can be dry. But, he takes LONG to answer emails & takes FOREVER to give grades back to you, which I found annoying because you have no idea how you're doing in the course. The final exam is a breeze as long as you study.
He is a great guy who really cares about what he is teaching but the class can feel like it takes years to end. BUT if you are in LAWS 1001/1002 with him GO TO CLASS! He will tell you what is important and what to put a star by and if you get all of them then you're 3/4 through studying for the exam.
His ppt have little snip its of words and quite frankly don't make a lot of sense by themselves. He's a great lecturer though so go to class or you'll be lost. he assigns readings but then goes over them in class so you don't have to read. i asked him about the format and ideas for my papers and he was really supportive and nice about it.
He has good lectures and is good at explaining his contents rather than just reading off the slides. He is understanding of student's situation. His exam is multiple choice and easy if you study. He will hint at what might be on the exam during lectures. His case discussions in class really make you apply your knowledge and think.
He is a good prof, however he sometimes explains things too quickly.
I've never had a professor who cares so much about their students, would love to take another course with him. He's definitely got my approval for the best law professor at carleton, by far.
He is by far the BEST prof I know! He tries his best to help students and very approachable, i will take every class this prof teaches!!!
Tasson is a great teacher, keeps room for discussion and interaction within the class.. HOWEVER, if you are someone who studies slides thoroughly, his slides are heavily abbreviated and don't make much sense unless you catch these details in lecture. Therefore, I am switching profs next sem to see if there's a difference.
Nice guy, knows what he's talking about, but is incredibly boring. Puts 150 words per slide, reads off of them word for word. The few times a class he goes into explanation he talks too long, and never finishes the lecture before time is over. Marks take absolutely forever to get back (months sometimes). He's ok but if you can fine better, switch.
Tasson is a great professor. He explains things really well by giving detailed responses - even through email. He's really smart and genuinely cares about the material. Lectures can be a bit dry, but it's to be expected in an intro course. As long as you take decent notes and do the readings for the papers, you'll be fine.
Prof is great; he's engaging with the class, understanding of student issues and knows the material to a tee. Response time to e-mails and grading of papers forwarded to him by the TAs could be improved. Hand in everything and attend all discussions or you won't pass the course, regardless of overall grade.
Prof is just as good as when I had him for LAWS1001 in the same semester. The TA needed improvement however and would not accommodate issues very well, nor was she consistent on citation requirements before paper deadlines, e.g. I wrote a paper in full APA format but it wasn't in "her version" of APA, hence losing marks which the prof wouldn't veto
Horrible. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He never answers emails and his assignments are pointless. I made the mistake of not realizing that 3908 would be split into various topics, so I chose his class because it was at a later time of the day. He gave us assignments about social science relating to law. No offence, but Im here to learn about law not science
I think that on his own, Steve would be a great guy but I say that with some hesitation. Waited 2 weeks before the end of the term to hand ANY grades back & i had to beg for them (sent 5 emails that went unanswered). Lecture slides are almost impossible to read or even understand & if the lectures were' so painfully dull that wouldn't bother me :/
Absolutely loved this class. Tasson is super engaging, passionate, and VERY clear about what's going to be on the exam (he notes it in his slides!). He's clear however that the slides aren't enough, so you need to take good notes. His lectures are both informative and hilarious. The content of the course is amazing and grades were returned quickly
He is a very passionate person and you can tell he likes teaching. Unfortunately, you go long periods of time without receiving any feedback on assignments.
Really passionate and knows exactly what he's talking about, v entertaining. If u have questions, visit his office hours, v helpful. He gives out hints on what will be on the exam in lectures. Beware he's high key really disorganized, it takes forever to get your grades back, and he takes forever to respond to emails. Had him for 1001-2, loved both
Steve is a great prof!! While this is kind of a dry course and theory heavy (to be expected of a first year course), he does his best to make the material entertaining. He does a good job at it too- such a funny guy! He did a great job at setting a solid foundation for courses you will have to take in upper years. Had him for LAWS 1001 and 1002
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!! He makes Whats supposed to be an extremely interested class EXTREMELY boring. There are better professors at Carleton to take this class with- also avoid for LAWS 1001 and LAWS 3908
I found the course content to be very idealistic and unrealistic. As a result, the lectures felt excruciatingly boring - the cosmopolitanism in particular. I had originally planned to apply to law school in my 3rd year. This class made me eat an SAT and now I must wait another year. If you are into sociology, this course may be for you.
Professor Tasson seems like a nice guy and its not personal but this class was a mess. Late lecture uploads, poor communication, and it was hard to get help when you needed it. Overall, its not the worst class I've taken but far far from the best. Keeping COVID in mind I'm understanding but these issues occured all semester.
Granted this was in the middle of the COVID pandemic, but there were too many times there were technical difficulties. Readings were way too much. There was no contact with the TAs, until we received our first assignment back. I barely learned anything from the course. I've met him once, a nice guy, but this course ain't it
Information overload. There is so many topics and readings with no indication as to which are *most* important. I have not received feedback on either term paper; I have absolutely no idea what is expected on the final exam. Tasson is a very nice guy, and I understand Covid was a struggle, but this course was agonizing unlike no other.
I was really disappointed by this class! I've had Steve in the past and really enjoyed his courses, but this one was brutal. It was very heavy on the readings and the entire course was all based on theory and ideals. Lectures were long and very information heavy. Lectures and grades were consistently late. Grading criteria was very unclear
Im telling you right now as a student of colour, do not take any classes with this man. These human rights law topics are important and he absolutely tarnished them. His classes are extremely boring and its a shame that so many profs of colour do not get to teach his classes
It is January 6th and I still only know 45% of grade. There was a ridiculous amount of readings and you were required to have an in-depth understanding of most of them for the final. This class tried to link cosmopolitanism and socialism with 'human rights,' which I thought was exploitative of certain marginalized peoples for political gain.
He released 3hr+ recorded lectures every week which was so unnecessary. He rambled and wasted a lot of time. The tests were incredibly hard because he never allowed us to go back to an answer or skip a question. The TAs were strict which he acknowledged but he never did anything about it. He is a nice man but he just needs to be considerate.
Prof never missed office hours and was very involved on Culearn forum to answer questions. He was slow at emails and grading, however. The course is heavy in readings, but thats to be expected in legal studies. Since he speaks slowly, speed up his online recordings on Culearn to shorten the lecture. Hes an easier grader than most law profs.
He never posts lectures on time. He constantly releases over 3 hours of lectures. His TAs are way too strict. The way they mark the reading responses, vs. how the prof describes the reading responses, doesn't make sense. This is a first year course but has way more readings and is much tougher than upper year courses. Avoid this prof if possible
Tasson is a great person yet, as a professor he overcomplicates everything! He does a great job with emailing his students weekly to keep us updated on what is coming but the lectures are posted a little late. Everything now being online, I can understand some delays. There are a lot of readings, slides are confusing and don't expect easy marks!
Very friendly guy who seem's pretty understanding. However, he did assign a lot of unnecessary work throughout the course and his lectures were often too long. But he was very friendly throughout the semester and the quizzes were fairly easy.
wouldn't recommend this prof at all. never replied to emails. said was gonna send email about make up quiz date but never sent one. as a 1st yr prof he should be answering emails constantly. i'm 4th year and would not recommend. his lecture slides were really disorganized, no detail weekly assignments were easy tho.
Tasson was amazing! For a first year law student his lectures are perfect and very well detailed. Many people complained about the work load but it really wasnt that bad. He's super friendly, makes the lectures fun and interesting, and He's a very understanding prof granting crazy extensions if you needed it
He is a very nice person but his class was overloaded. He made about more 5 papers due compared to other law teachers and his lectures were about 3 hours long while he was just rambling during them. The amount of wrk assigned in this class is brutal. Difficult to have a social life if you dont want to fall behind esp with other classes piled on top
Nice prof, and he's accessible outside of class and is willing to answer any questions! Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this class. His lectures were very long and vague. Be prepared for discussions every week, quizzes, live workshops/assignments, and one big final paper. The TA's were not consistent with grading or feedback. I do not recommend.
Solid Prof. Lectures long but interesting. Attended office hours and was able to get issues solved easily. Don't just email! Challenging but he was flexible with assignments.
Professor Tasson was one of my favourite profs based on his lectures alone. He gives you all of the information need to be successful and his tests were very fair. He takes the time to make his lectures engaging and a lot of the time theyre quite fun. If you take good notes during lectures you shouldnt have an issue with this class
Great guy who makes his lectures interesting and quite participatory.
Really fun guy for this seminar course. Very flexible with due dates, made class fun, keep up with the work and you will be fine.
Had him for in-person lectures. He was a nice prof and you could tell he cared about his students. He would explain the lectures well and always reminded us we could ask questions if we didn't understand something. Overall, good prof and would definitely take him again!
This man is so passionate about what he does. Incredibly accommodating for any issue, always makes sure you understand the course and assignments, and also just that you're doing ok in general. Lots of assignments but they're very spaced out and manageable.
While he never finishes a lecture during class, he never misses anything and always makes sure to go over the most important things. Tells you EXACTLY what will be on the final exam. So caring, makes sure you are doing well inside and outside of class. Do not start assignments at the last minute and you'll be perfectly fine.
he was always behind in lectures. we did not even finish the material. he was allover the place and his exam was very confusing and not relevant to the lectures.
Good proff however content was a boring. Very clear on what is on the exam. I recommend attending PASS if having trouble with keeping up to the content.
Professor Tasson is a very likeable professor, he always makes it clear what is expected of you, and is very approachable if you have questions. His lectures are informative and he knows how to make students laugh. I found the coursework to be manageable, and he is very lenient with deadlines. Highly recommend Steve!
Prof. Tasson is very caring and a great lecturer. He gives clear instructions and tells you exactly what to expect for the final exam. You can tell he cares about his students and wants them to succeed, and the cases that we studied were always interesting. The textbook is a bit dense, but it's always covered in lectures. Overall a great experience
Had this professor twice. This term, the content was really boring and it felt very repetitive. He was very disorganized and all over the place. Kept pushing back deadlines which interfered with my other work. Also, he either takes a really long time to respond to emails or does not respond at all.
drones on and on about nothing. he seemed approachable at first but 4 weeks into the terms (2 weeks of lectures because he had cancelled twice) stopped replying to any emails. the fall grades still aren't released and i don't even know what my midterm grade was because he hasn't released that yet either. take 3908 with a different prof if you can
Steve is a great prof but he gets side tracked and takes a while to explain simple concepts. You can tell that he really cares about his students and he is very approachable and caring. I recommend going to his office hours, he will literally help with anything. Also, the textbook is not necessary, he covers everything you need in the lectures.
Steve is the sweetest professor ever. His lectures drag on, but he is so passionate about what he is saying and answers everyone's questions so thoroughly. 10/10 man.
I have taken Steve in all three years of my undergrad so far and he is one of my favourite professors! He is very knowledgable and understanding and really wants his students to do well. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone!
Steve is an excellent educator and has been one of my favourite professors during my first two years of Carleton. His assignments are fair and easy to understand, he makes lectures interesting by engaging with students and creating scenarios for us to discuss. He is a genuine professor and person who wants to see everyone succeed!
Steve is such a great prof! His lectures are super engaging and all the papers that we write for this class helped so much with understanding the content! He really cares about the students and will help with literally anything you might need! All essays are based on readings so make sure you have access to the textbook in some way!
I CANNOT RECOMMEND TASSON ENOUGH! He is the most favorite prof of my first year (I'll come back to this post after finishing college to see if he's my fav of the entire 4 years). Participation is required but the way he delivers the lecture is super engaging. Take his seminar/sit in his class once and you're be addicted. Assignments are hard tho :)
bro never got through ONE lecture because he cared so much about answering our questions in depth. i love him.
Dr. Tasson was an excellent prof for Law 1001. He was knowledgeable, funny, a great speaker, and thankfully kept politics and personal opinions out of the class. His lectures were easy to follow and understand but were often long and went unfinished. Marks depend mostly on your TA. Exam was easy and fair. If you can get into Tasson's class, do it!
This was a full term course and we did not get marks until the end of the year. He assigned papers during the winter break and reading weeks. He was a tough marker and participation is mandatory (he will call you out). If you are not passionate about the subject, or do not feel comfortable actively speaking in class, do not take it.
Most of the time he can't get through a whole lecture. You can tell he wants students to do well and takes time to answer questions. 2 'reflections', term paper and final exam. Lectures can be considered necessary because his slides can be quite confusing and not have all the details. Exam questions are based on what he says in the lectures.
he does not answer grade appeal emails, and most of the TA's aren't even undergrad law students... which is annoying when you have questions related to the course / assignments. otherwise he is very funny and nice.
He does not answer his emails. He talks a lot and his lectures go by very slow, but you should go to them because he often gives hints on what will be on the exam. He also does not prepare the TA's well enough for them to actually help us in the course. He is nice though.
Super caring. The lectures dragged on at times. He dropped a lot of hints for the final. My TA was not great, did not know the material or the criteria for grading the assignments, but he is super understanding and is great with appeals. Listen in lectures because the final has some content discussed in class. Also if you have PASS, go to that.
Tasson is a great guy but he tends to get sidetracked in lecture and frequently runs out of time to make it through all the slides. He is also quite slow at releasing assignment guidelines and grades. Overall he does care about student success, if you visit him in office hours he is happy to help (not the best at responding to emails, however).
Very nice, super caring and clearly loves talking about law he would however get off topic or spend a lot of time on material that he found interesting but was not relevant for assignments or exams was super nice though
Steve was such a good prof! He is very caring and is always able to help you go over work and plan out ideas for papers. He can sometimes go on tangents but overall is very knowledgable.
Makes the material as easy to understand as possible and is also a genuine and caring person. great prof.
great professor. uses slideshows but allows for a lot of discussions. tons of discussion with class mates due to it being a fysm. gives 10-20 minute breaks and always welcomes questions
Very good prof! Gives great feedback when you up to him personally after class or during office hours. LAWS1001 is more of the philosophy of law, rather than actual legal discussions, which I was not aware of. Final paper is a little heavy (broad topics - 2000 words). KEEP UP W READINGS! Great prof, questionable material.
Professor Tasson is a knowledgeable and engaging lecturer, though he tends to get sidetracked at times. Attending lectures is a must, as they provide valuable insights not always covered in the textbook. Utilizing study tools like unstuck ai alongside the course materials can really help with exam prep.
one of the best professors by far. you definitely have to attend to get a good grade but you get amazing feedback on assignments and I felt like I actually learned something. I'm taking his other classes in the future
Favourite class. Prof. Tasson cares a lot about his students and is accessible outside of classes. He seems to genuinely enjoy hearing our thoughts + answering questions. The lectures and assignments are engaging & thought-provoking, so make sure to get an early start on the final paper—I wish I would have as the topic was really interesting imo.
Show up to lectures + tutorials, and participate!!! He's so sweet and a great lecturer, he gives away lots of hints in class on what will be on the final!
He was very friendly and easy to approach about questions. He really has students' best interests in mind and the exam was multiple choice with content only from lectures and slides. He was very clear in lecture and highlighted exam material on slides. I wish I had him again for 1002, he makes all the content fun to engage with.
Lectures are content heavy, but he states exact material that is on final exam. He is funny and makes lectures entertaining. TA's mark assignments hard.
not the worst, but wouldnt take again because the TA's are hard graders. DOES NOT ANSWER HIS EMAILS NO MATTER WHAT
Steve Tasson is an amazing professor to say the least. I have now taken both his seminar and intro to law course and they are now my two favourite classes. One must be willing to do the work to excel in these classes but the interesting lectures and upbeat attitude provided by Steve makes it easier
Super engaging lectures! Outside of class, the course required pretty heavy required reading and that could get overwhelming. There was also a lot of content for Professor Tasson to push through in every class but he did a good job breaking it up into digestible parts. Super helpful during exam prep, always very responsive through email.
The Professor was amazing! But I don't know if I would take his class again if it is the same TA… The TA was a very tough marker for no reason! Even when it came to participation. I had to fight for a higher mark for participation, but showed up to every class and participated.. yet still got only 80% for that… Yet he would hand everything in late!
TALK TO HIM DURING OFFICE HOURS. I personally find him engaging and he's very fun to hold conversations with, he gives me sweet grandpa energy lmao
very fair with grading, make sure you know the general concept for cases and he will always tell you whats on the exam during lectures so make sure you go. hes super approachable too so dont be afraid to go to office hours, he holds amazing convos - class related or even just random topics.
Best professor to take for first years especially. He's super kind and cares about his students deeply. Great lectures, super easy to follow and very engaging. 10/10!!!!
He is such a sweet professor, easy going and super helpful! highly recommend him
Steve was an amazing professor & it's obvious that he genuinely cares about his students. He's super approachable & is really helpful in answering questions. FYSM is discussion-based in small groups & larger class discussions. I found the topics super interesting and enjoyed the discussions we had (even though I normally hate participation).
He covered a lot of the required reading in lecture (both summarizing facts and explaining key points) so I was able to get away with not doing most of the readings. The assignments weren't difficult and Steve is very approachable and happy to answer questions. Lectures were interesting, even when covering a lot of dense material.
meh, he's not that bad but omg he goes off topic so many times to the point where I get dreaded. his lectures are okay, nothing special. Grading wise, kinda tough for a first year class, and expects you to read alot. He gives off many exam hints. Final exam was mid. Not the best but not the worst!
