Professor Taylor's lectures are full of neat stories, you can tell he really loves his work. The grading policies and assignments couldn't be clear either, making it easy to do well.
one of the reasons our SPA is great. great stories to relate to class material. he combines great teaching ability, with an easily approachable personality, with an obvious air that he has a ton of relevant experience.
Tests are hard to prepare for. Only 10 questions and you're bound to not know a couple things which gets you down to an 80%. Easy questions though. Overall a great instructor. One big 15 page paper, 4 tests, one oral report.
Prof. Taylor is full of interesting stories and wisdom. His class is interesting, a fairly large amount of reading but nothing absurd. He is very willing to help outside of class, and his tests/quizzes are surprise free. All in all, a great prof!
One of my favorites at AU. Great stories, experienced, helpful. Its hard work, but interesting subject matter and assignments. I liked writing the big paper, but hey, I'm a weirdo like that. It beats a T/F multiple choice test anyday. I truely learned from Prof. Taylor
Dont' take the class if you're not into debate. Steve is a great prof full of amazing stories that actually relate to the class. Very interesting and worth taking. SPA is better because of him.
Amazing professor! I have never met a teacher that is so willing to look out for his students. He is not here to work on bettering himself in the field, he is here to teach. Amazing guy and very helpful!
Awesome professor, always ready to help outside of class and always very clear in lecture. Great stories add to understandability. He is one of the best I've had so far.
Great class!
Awesome guy and the class isn't bad at all. Fair grader and he goes over everything you need to. Poli Sci majors: the labs are awesome if you get the right TA
Prof. Taylor is the man. Doesn't underestimate his students' intelligence, which leads to lectures that really educate the student. Interweaves great stories into his teaching and class is filled with dialouge, rather than people shouting out partisan rhetoric.
Politics in Tropical Africa - Very knowledgeable about West Africa, encourages class discussion and welcomes examples of other regions/countries. Lectures are based on readings alone and are difficult to follow if you have not read ahead of class. Tests were based on lectures and he grades fair. Acceptable prof in int'l relations, excellent in govt
Great Teacher. Very flexible. Quizzes and final are fair. The class comes from notes which is nice. Great stories. If your govt, must have this prof!
he's is a great guy very funny and helpful. Quizzes and papers are not bad. Beware of difficult final exam worth large portion of grade.
I liked Prof Tay but I think his class could have been more interesting. The quizzes are not hard if you pay attention in class and take good notes. When you write your paper, make sure you go by his standards and not what you think is best. Funny stories and interesting to talk to.
Prof Tay is a really smart guy, and extremely entertaining. His quizzes and tests can get very similar to trivia games, so focus on the specifics of his lecturs instead of the broad topics. His expectations are clear for the paper. Pay attention to his guidelines and you'll do fine.
Prof Tay is a really smart guy, and extremely entertaining. His quizzes and tests can get very similar to trivia games, so focus on the specifics of his lecturs instead of the broad topics. His expectations are clear for the paper. Pay attention to his guidelines and you'll do fine.
One of the best poli sci professors at AU. He knows his field well, he cares about his students, his quizes/essay/final are fair, and he tells great stories. Sure, he can be awkward at times, but its all part of his charm.
Very easy course. Professor is very clear and all his quizzes and the final come from notes. Very funny guy and very knowledgable about US politics. Take this professor!
must attend class in order to get a good grade. but you shouldn't have any problem attending because he makes his lectures very entertaining. mixes in his own stories with the lectures which makes the material very easy to remember when it comes to the 5 short quizes (each contain 5 questions) and the final. no midterm, just a paper/presentation.
Started using powerpoint, which is very helpful
Second time taking this professor, and still as great as always. My absolute favorite professor at AU! He started using Powerpoints this year, so his lectures are even easier to understand and take notes from. Really learned a lot in both of his classes and plan on taking another of his classes later. Would recommend this professor to anyone!
Taylor is awesome! He's sort of awkward, but tells great stories that make his lectures a lot more interesting. He knows his stuff, and his quizzes and final are manageable.
Perhaps one of best professors i've ever had. Easy grader, but you also learn a ton. Taylor is like a textbook and knows a ton about his subject. If you're looking for a good gen ed to take, then go for him. If you're a gov major, even better. He's the man.
Taylor is one of the best professors at AU. Easy grader, but still helps you learn a ton. His mind is like a textbook, and he knows so much about his area of studies. Take him if you get the chance...you wont regret it
I love Taylor. Easy class, really well organized and you actually learn the material. If I could take him again I would
I absolutely ADORE Professor Taylor. Not only is he a great professor, but he is a nice person who genuinely cares about his students. He knows a seemingly infinite amount of information regarding the topic of the class. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone--it's a fairly easy A and you will learn so much in the process.
Professor Taylor's "Racial Politics in the US" was a fantastic class, mainly because Taylor is a highly entertaining guy. He sticks to the subject matter, but be prepared for "that reminds me of a story" and other tangental moments. Attendance is required, but class is not hard to sit through. Good notes and a minimal effort will get you through.
Professor Taylor is the man. Had him for three courses and he is great every time. If I could take him for another course I would...and probably will. He makes the material so easy to learn and understand and he always has entertaining stories to tell related to the material. Highly recommended!
Easily one of the best professors at AU. I challenge you to find anyone who could say a bad word about Taylor. He makes everything extremely interesting, and if you take notes in class and do most of the reading, you'll do fine on all quizzes/tests. If you're an SPA major, I would highly advise taking a Taylor class before graduating.
One of the best professors I've had. Engaging and funny, very good at conveying concepts. Prof. Taylor has great stories, and has seen a lot of what he teaches firsthand.
Taylor is outstanding. I took his class as a major requriement/gen-ed and loved it. In addition to being a great lecturer, the class is very, very easy. I got literally 100% and I'm not even a polysci major. Although the book is "required" he ONLY tests from material in the lectures so don't buy the book, rent it from e-reserves if need be.
Great guy. Pretty straight forward go to class take good notes. He always hints at whats going to be on the weekly quiz. multiple choice final, and one paper. TAKE this class it was worth it.
Professor Taylor is just an all around great guy. He knows the material well and he's a good lecturer. Also, he absolutely loves his job, and it shows. Highly recommend Taylor for any course.
Professor Taylor is the perfect professor. Easy to understand, warm, and always willing to help his students do well. I highly recommend his class, even if it isn't for your major.
I am still digesting how much I learned in his Metropolitan Politics course. It was worthwhile and one of the highlights of my academic career so far. Steven is an expert in his field. He is passionate, informative, and humble. He is so kind and approachable, and is an open book about local and African politics. Ask this guy about Boston! Take him!
I ADORE Professor Taylor. You can't say anything bad about him. He's a walking encyclopedia and is so eager to share all his knowledge with students, whilst being always passionate, fun, and helpful. The nicest professor at AU. Truly loves teaching and his students and it's incredible.
If you have a pulse, you will kick this classes ass, it is insanely easy. Professor Taylor himself is a nice guy, and he does know his stuff. But for some reason he makes the class insanely easy. You will spend most of the time listening to him tell semi-relevant stories. Moral of the story: Take it, it's an easy A, and Taylor is a chill guy.
Literally, all you have to do is show up. Most of the class was about random political facts and he almost gave you the answers for the quiz questions the day before. The semester is comprised of 3 ten question quizzes, a small paper, and the final is basically the quiz questions put together. Definitely take this class, an easy A
I loved Professor Taylor! All the lectures are based on the readings so you don't need to do the readings. The class is just him rambling about things he's done in his life relating to politics, although he does mention stuff that's in the textbook. Additionally, mention Howard Dean and he will love you.
He's nice, inspirational and knowledgeable. I'll take his class again if I can
Professor Taylor is passionate about his job, he is also really savy. I took his US Politics class, I learned a lot from it and prepared me for more difficult courses. The only perk is he is not clear with the final paper guidelines.
If you don't feel like putting in effort for an intro level course then take Taylor. The quizzes and final are random facts that he tells you will be on the exams. If you have any common sense about politics then his class is an extremely easy A or A-. He's also quite entertaining and sings during class sometimes. Great guy with great stories!
Professor Taylor gives quizzes for every unit. He is pretty clear about what will be on the quizzes and emphasizes what is most important. The group project was not as clear as I would have liked it to be. The paper was weird, and he has a weird rule of two spaces after every period, and stuff like that. The final exam was pretty straightforward.
LOVE HIM SO MUCH! AMAZING PROF! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! He gives quizzes but if you pay attention to his lectures it's really easy. Also, he has papers which are so easy I would definitely recommend him.
Professor Taylor is an absolute GEM. Highly recommend.
Great prof. Cares far more about learning than grades, I'd recommend taking the class the same way: don't worry about your grade and just learn from the guy. Walking encyclopedia on urban politics; you will learn a great deal you didn't know before just by being around him. Very worth taking.
I love this professor. Take his class
He is very passionate about what he teaches and I am always excited to come to class. If you listen in class and take notes, you will do well. He is always available during office hours, so take advantage of this!
Prof Taylor is the love of my life he cares so much about his students also go to his office hours he gives amazing stories and will help you so much. He is such an understanding professor I am trying to take as many classes as I can from him.
Such a nice guy and the class is so easy.
I took Professor Taylor's class during my first semester here and he was nothing but exceptional. He made the material interesting and I learned so much. Make sure to go into his office hours even if it is for a simple question or just to talk. He appreciates it a lot and interesting to talk to. I will definitely take one of his classes again.
He makes it very clear what you need to do to get an A and its not hard. He's fair in grading. GET THINGS IN EARLY AND YOU WILL GET EXTRA POINTS. I learned a lot from this class and my TA's were exceptional. One of my good friends is one of the TA's from this class. PAY ATTENTION DURING CLASS. He gives hints to some questions on tests and quizzes.
Easy A, didn't learn that much in the class. The term paper is easy and his exams are just random questions, which is frustrating. Kinda funny how he falls asleep in office hours and during group presentations. You will hear the same story over and over. Honestly he is like a grandpa.
Professor Taylor is the best! He has so much expertise in urban politics so definitely take him and has great stories that make class interesting. This class is pretty lecture heavy but hes open to comments and questions. Hes very accessible outside of class so take advantage of office hours! Taking a course from him again next semester!
Attendance is mandatory and you lose a percentage point (out of 3) for every absence. He's super accessible and has office hours 4x per week, and he gives extra credit if you turn written assignments in early. Group presentation topics are obscure and aren't worth enough of your grade for the amount of work you have to do.
Professor Taylor is a wonderful man who genuinely cares both about the students and about the material. He is very enthusiastic, facilitates good discussion, and keeps the class light and humorous. The class isn't very difficult, and it generally seems that he just enjoys seeing the students each day.
Professor Taylor is one of the best at AU!! You can tell he cares a lot about all of his students and the material he teaches (which hes extremely knowledgeable on). The assignments and expectations are super straightforward and definitely take advantage of office hours. His positive attitude and great stories make class engaging!!
Very nice guy. Good stories, but can get a little repetitive. Final has some obscure questions, but if you just pay attention in class it should be fine. Pick an early project date and get it out of the way. Semester paper isn't bad either. Solid choice in SPA, and was tolerable as an 8am.
He is really sweet and wants the best for his students. He tends to go off topic A LOT, but he gives hints to what will be on quizzes. There are not many assignments but that also means that each assignment is. HUGE part of your grade. As long as you do the assignments and get on his good side you will be okay.
Professor Taylor has some excellent stories that really made this class enjoyable. Gives hints on what will be on the quizzes/final in class so if you take good notes and show up you will be fine. TAs were excellent, only complaint overall is that there aren't many assignments so every grade counts (try do do well on quizzes especially)
Professor Taylor is literally the best!!! I learned so much in his Metropolitan Politics class, and he really went out of his way to make class fun and engaging.
Professor Taylor is really laid back. He is super nice and makes his class super easy. He gives hints in his lectures about the quiz questions so show up to class. His guidelines for the assignments are not super clear, which is nice because he gives you room to do the assignment in a way that works for you. 100% would recommend
Prof. Taylor is the best. In terms of the class, he makes the lectures very fun and interesting, and really helps out with hints on the quiz questions. He is very experienced in politics, and his stories about his career are awesome. His amazing singing abilities are an added bonus :) I highly recommend taking his class, you won't regret it!
This class was the easiest one I have taken in college. Taylor will tell you everything that is on the tests (with the exception of the final which I recommend studying for) and is a very very easy grader. He is also just a very nice person.
A very sweet person who gives such interesting lectures. Quizzes and projects are simple to succeed on and he graded our final paper very gently. I only struggled with the final exam but that was due to a lack of studying. Planning to take him again because I loved his course.
he pretty much talks the whole class so you gotta take detailed notes on everything. he'll tell you some of the answers for the quizzes, but not all so beware! he has so many fascinating stories and you can tell he's a total genius. so sweet and caring!!! sometimes he can be a bit unclear with instructions but overall a good professor
Prof Taylor is the best! His classes are lecture heavy but you can find them afterwards on Canvas. His quizzes are super easy, and he is always up for a conversation. Highly recommend!
This class was incredible-- Professor Taylor is probably my favorite professor here. The class was very well done and the labs were fun and the reflections were pretty easy.
Grade is a term paper, presentation, attendance, final exam, three short quizzes, and the wash lab if you do 4 credit. Prof is caring and class is easy to succeed in. Put in a a tiny bit of effort and you will do well. Very passionate about subject and highly recommend taking his 200-level classes as well. Assignments were easy but study for final
Prof. Taylor is an incredible professor! An easy grader and his class has few assignments. As long as you turn in all the assignments on time you will get an A. The final paper is really easy as well, he grades leniently. The only difficult part of the class I would say is the final, which you should 100% study for.
Totally lecture based class so make sure you show up for class and take notes or you will miss stuff on the quiz. Pretty similar class to AP gov but Taylor introduces topics in new and engaging ways. He is funny and extremely smart. I highly recommend taking his class. I have found that some of the information he teaches is a bit out of date.
He is genuinely the most kind professor ever, and he has so many interesting stories. His class is easy, but also so engaging. Make sure you show up to class and take diligent notes as all the info on the tests and final are given in class. If you show up and put in the work you can get a lot out of the class.
Professor Taylor is such a sweet and hilarious guy. All of his classes consist of lectures and there are 3 multiple-choice quizzes and an 80-question final. He gives you the quiz answers if you pay attention to his lecture. He is very strict on attendance but always very caring and understanding if you have any personal issues.
Prof Taylor is the best and I can't recommend taking this class enough. He cares so much for this class and it shows (just wait until he sings). Definitely take notes on information that is shown on his PowerPoints. He is very easy to reach out to and is always willing to have a long conversation with you. Make sure to take all classes he offers.
Class was easy, test was not. I studied all the wrong things, class average was barely passing on exam. Even if you study for the final, it still is really tough. I studied for weeks and still struggled. Doesn't explain material super well, goes off topic a lot. Really nice, though, and an easy grader on everything else. Beware of the final.
Professor Taylor has the most interesting stories. VERY knowledgeable. Lectures are actually substantive. Quizzes are easy if you pay attention in class. Gives off wholesome grandpa vibes, tells the same funny stories. Easy term paper and light group presentation. Take him because it's so difficult NOT to get an A. Washington Lab is fun if offered.
Taylor is a really sweet guy, definitely Grandpa energy. Was very clear in the structure of the class and with grading but his lectures can be a bit disorganized and confusing. Content is a little repetitive but he always has interesting stories to connect to it and you'll do fine if you pay attention. Overall, I enjoyed the class
Professor Taylor was a great Professor! He was super caring and accommodating. Quizzes were super easy. Lecture heavy but makes everything accessible. Attendance is mandatory but classes are easy. Highly recommend!
Professor Taylor is a joy of a human being. He genuinely loves being a professor, which reflects strongly in class time. His lectures move slowly, but they are full of memorable stories that help you remember the content. Attendance is mandatory because he cares a lot about student participation. He is smart, warm, and funny. Take his class(es)!
I absolutely enjoyed Prof. Taylor! I understand why some might not handle his class very well as he loves to get distracted with anecdotes. However, he not only cares a lot about what he's teaching but also about his class. ALL the answers to the quizzes are given in class. Final paper a bit stressful but not that hard, trust me. Highly suggested.
prof Taylor is the best
Professor Taylor is awesome. If you get the chance to take his class do it. Pretty easy to get an A. There is technically a textbook but you don't need it. He spends most of class telling stories (they are relevant and there is usually a quiz question or two on them so pay attention). Overall major grandpa vibes would recommend.
I took Dr. Taylor for 110 during the pandemic & 240 this semester. He's an AU legend. He cares a lot, is very responsive, and extremely fast grader. If you want to do well, show up! He takes attendance and tells you what will be on the quiz in class. He's a an easy grader on quizzes and papers, but study for the exam - it's cumulative.
Professor Taylor is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes all of his classes extremely engaging and fun. If I could give him a 10/5 I would. 100% recommend.
One of the best professors at AU. He makes his classes enjoyable and engaging. He truly cares about his students, one of the few professors I've had that might actually know everyone's name in the class, regardless of how much you participate. study diligently for the final exam and pay attention during lectures to get a good grade on the quizzes.
Overall, Prof Taylor is a great professor. However, the final was absurd. 99 questions worth 1/3 of your grade and very tricky, specific questions. Take notes during his lectures - especially about specific people and events. Also, every unexcused absence is a point off your final grade.
I have taken Prof Taylor's other courses. This class is similar to the other classes just a group presentation quizzes term paper and final. Taylor is very very knowledgeable, respectable, funny and a great singer.
Prof. Taylor was amazing! If you have the opportunity to take his class, do it! He lectured almost every class but he was very engaging and is so knowledgable. He also has great stories! Very sweet old man, and gives major grandpa vibes. He was awesome and I loved his class! Also, do Washington Lab if you have the opportunity- it is so fun!
Prof. Taylor is amazing but there are things you must know. Tests are almost entirely on lectures. The textbook, readings, and lecture notes aren't really worth your time. Nice TAs are critical because tests are cumulative and without pointers the # of facts to memorize is absurd. Turn in the paper by the early deadline because he grades easier.
I liked this class in general. Biggest piece of advice is to volunteer for the first presentation group to get it over with and not take the first quiz. The final was surprisingly difficult so I would spend some time reviewing niche names that you maybe wouldn't otherwise. Taylor loves a good story and a sound effect, even early in the morning.
Professor Taylor is like if your funny grandpa who had a weird interest in civics was also your professor. Assignments are graded easily and he memorizes everyone's name regardless of how much they talk. The final was crazy tho- 70 questions, all multiple choice, and weird niche facts that are impossible to memorize but overall he's amazing.
Prof Taylor is great. He cares about his students and is flexible. Classes consist of 5-7 Quizzes (they are really easy he tells you what is on them), final, paper, 5 min presentation, and participation.
SPA's best professor by far. Prof. Taylor has the most engaging lectures and makes you want to get up at the crack of dawn to get to class. The quizzes and presentations are easy, final not so much, but if you do well on everything else it won't matter. AU honestly ought to name a building after Prof. Taylor. If you can take one of his classes, do.
Build a statue for this man. Prof. Taylor will make you want to take an 8am class, seriously. One of AU's most knowledgeable professors, if you can take one of his classes, take it.
Prof. Taylor was my first ever professor at AU and I couldn't have been luckier. He is funny, knowledgeable, and truly cares about his students. His course with Wednesday block class goes on amazing field trips and takes students all around the city, which is both fun and super engaging. 10/10 I can't recommend him enough!
Professor Taylor is super nice and funny. His class is lecture heavy but he's fairly engaging and tends to go on interesting tangents. Grades come from a group project, a few 10 question quizzes, one page reflections, and a fairly easy final paper. Final is long but not hard. Would highly recommend going to the peer review sessions.
Professor Taylor's class was relatively interesting and for the most part pretty manageable. I received full credit on every single quiz, and high marks on the term paper. Importantly, the final exam is ridiculously difficult and constitutes 33% of your grade. The questions were hyper specific and impossible to study for--a grade tanker for sure.
I loved steven taylor. He felt like having a grandpa as a professor as he genuinely cared for his students and interestingly presented the material. I loved the way he told anecdotal stories and kept the class interesting and engaging. Shoutout to him, my favorite professor thus far.
Do not be fooled by the initial ease of the class. His final will come out of the blue and screw you. It was essentially 99 questions of bar trivia. Students were asked to identify niche historical figures. There is no way you could thoroughly prepare for his final without literally retaking the entire course three times. Avoid him if you can.
Professor Taylor is an AU treasure! I had him for several classes and loved them all. Yeah, you can quibble with the hyper specific test questions but you will not find a more caring, knowledgeable, and kind professor.
Professor Taylor is such a sweet guy, his class is really lecture heavy and you're graded by a few things but they aren't hard. You can tell he really cares about his students and he's an amazing prof!
SUPER SWEET. I miss this professor so much. great lecturer, knowledgeable, warm, and welcoming. No complaints. Best professor Ive had as a freshman
My king fr. I was scared at first because his syllabus makes it clear that not many people get an A (but this is not true). Pretty easy class and he's such a nice guy. He also has a lot of funny anecdotes that he shares and it makes the block class go faster. Almost every class is a lecture, but its still not terrible. Take him!
Professor Taylor is great! While his lectures can be a little long at times they are always very relevant to the content we learn in class. For a M/Th 8:00am, I never dreaded going to that class. The final kind of came out of nowhere, but in general the course load is very easy and doesn't take long. He's great and I hope to have him again!
Professor Taylor is very knowledgeable. He tells a lot of stories which are sweet and funny but can be repetitive and detract from learning pretty quickly. Theres tons of readings but most are unnecessary. If you attend class and take notes, the quizzes, project, and term essay will be pretty easy. The final is a good bit harder though.
