I love Dr.Wagner. He has such a passion for what he teaches. He is a little goofy sometimes but is a really great man. He teaches very hands-on science which I think is very helpful. I have very much enjoyed this class.
He is too goofy and his jokes are not funny which made the class boring. And if the class is boring then sleep comes and you don't pass. He's a great teacher he just bored us w/ jokes at beginning of lecture
I had him for SFA 101 and thought he was a great teacher! Always smiling, very positive and helpful. Even though I didn't take him for a real class, he seems like a laid-back and very nice professor. I would definitely take him again.
Dr. Wagner is a very nice man. Microbiology is a hard class and requires a lot of studying, but if you talk to Dr. Wagner in his office, he is helpful. I struggled a little bit, but made a B. There was curving at the end of the course.
Hard teacher...he tries to be funny but ends up being corny and stupid. He has power point notes but they dont help his tests arent really on what he goes over. He is very anal and not very helpful i would recommend him to anyone

Wagner is a dork! He is constantly making terrible jokes. The man is a genuinely good and caring person - and thats what matters! The tests/quizes were difficult, but intresing for me, so I did well because I studied and read the material.

Dr. Wagner is really a great teacher! He is always willing to help but his "quizzes" are pretty hard. He is very into his job and wants everyone to enjoy the class. You have to put forth a lot of effort as a student, though.
READ THE BOOK!!! 70% of test will depend on it.
While he knows microbiology, he does not know how to teach. He feels that you should know how to interpet his lectures and will not answer a question. Instead, he says, "I think you need to review that section". My advice: if you can't avoid taking him, ask Ron Havner all your questions.
He really likes microbiology, but he does not know how to relate to the students. He tells corney jokes and takes forever to get through the notes. The class is not that hard, but he cannot answer questions. Avoid at all costs
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. His class isn't that hard to make a B in, but its not because of the teacher or his advice. He can not teach. He is a smart person, but not a teacher. Try to avoid him if possible especially if you think it would be interesting, because he makes it boring.
This is basically a good guy in the wrong profession. He truly isn't a teacher. His tests don't come from lecture or from his notes... So read the book, and between the lines. He lectures generalities, tests detail, and critical thinking skills. He does know micro, but will you when you leave??
My only advice to you is pray. Tests are difficult, they are made up of only 1/3 of the material you actually get in class the rest is critical thinking and material from other sources. I don't know how to tell you to study for his class, I busted my brain and never got above a 70% on his tests.
Dr. Wagner teaches a very difficult class but he tells you what to expect from the beginning. He tries to help students in any way possible. He uses lots of visuals. If you want to do good in this class, read the book and take good notes.
I really liked Dr. Wagner. He's corny, but I think he genuinely tries to help us remember hard concepts with his jokes. His tests are fair. Micro is not an easy class. I'm not sure what my grade will be, but it will be a fair reflection of my effort, not Dr. Wagner's teaching ability.
He's a great teacher but unfortuantely has to put up with a bunch of lazy students that don't want to work. I found him to be very helpful if he sees that you are really making an effort. If you don't like hard work find an easy professor that teaches on the High School level. I have a lot of respect for him. He knows his stuff.
Dr. Wagner is a sincere teacher. He is one of the few at SFA who really care about your success in his course. This class is not easy, but go to him and he will be glad to help you.
Dr. Wagner is a really nice guy. I thought he made his class very fun and interesting. It is not hard if you just pay attention and listen to what he tells you will be on the test. I made an A but I also feel that I earned it. I thought he was a wonderful teacher and really cares about his students. You have to study but I learned A LOT!!!
This is the worst teacher ever! Listen to me: Do Not Take Him! All he does is tell stupid jokes and goes off on his own tangents. No matter what he says, read the book. The tests are super hard and dont come from his notes or what he says!
Of course, this is a hard class, but Wagner makes it interesting. You do have to do a little bit of reading, but that is to be expected. This is college; you shouldn't expect to be spoonfed the information. If you study the notes and read over the chapters you'll be fine. He always welcomes questions and you can tell he enjoys the subject

Wagner isnt the easiest teacher! i recommmend that you take him, because he is a cool guy. he is a fun teacher, but expects a lot out of you (understand....this is college) he does have his stupid little jokes, and dresses up like tina turner, but his tests may be a little difficult. STUDY!!! pay more attention to the book then to the notes...
I did not enjoy this class! Although I'm sure Dr. Wagner is a very nice man his lectures always seemed scattered to me. There was ALWAYS something on his tests that he never talked about in class, so if you do decide to take him, make sure you read the book!!!
Pre-Nursing Micrbiology - I am an "A" student and did not make an "A" in this class. Regardless of whether you read the chapters or don't, it's an extremely difficult class. I got A's in Pathophysiology, Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2, as well as Chemistry 111. So, beware!
Don't take him if you another choice! I am an A student and did not quite got his information!
Dr. Wagner was never clear about what was going to be covered on tests, which made studying very difficult. He looks for ways to trick students on exams
Wagner knows Microbiology so well that he should never teach it. He is also extremely scatterbrained, so he jumps back and forth between topics. He's not very clear on what's going to be on tests, and doesn't explain the material well.
Dr. Wagner is a great professor. He shows a keen interest in the success of his student. I will most definately take him again and would recommend anyone take take him if you really want to study Microbiology.
I really enjoyed his class. Yes, he is goofy, a little nerdy, tells his stories, but I would rather have that kind of teacher rather than an a**hole. His test are over what he covers, nothing tricky. Yes, you have to study and attend class and pay attention. Maybe it depends on the course you take, but I would recommend him.
He is very knowledgable, especially about microbiology. He sometimes would go off on stories and I would lose my focus. Some of the test questions caught me off guard (not covered in class), but mostly his tests were easy. ALOT of busy work. ALOT of NASA info. Overall, interesting class and good prof.
He loves his job and makes his class entertaining. He really cares that his students do well. It's not an EASY class by any means, but don't be lazy, read the chapters in the book and study your notes and you won't have a problem passing. Going to class is key in order to get the homework assignments and test question hints.
Dr. Wagner's class is the best biology class I've ever taken. He cares so much about the success of his students, he's willing to help inside and outside of the classroom. Biology is a tough subject for me, but he made it interesting-not to mention entertaining!-and if you have a question, he's always willing to answer it. Take him.

This class is very hard. I dont feel like he prepared us for the tests at all! The reviews make the test seem normal, but the actual exam is really hard. It is rare when someone makes an A...our class average is normally in the 60s. He speeds through the powerpoint, so learn to write fast or buy his notes. Plan to spend A LOT of time studying.
Go to class. Being there every day will add about 5 points to your average. Not an easy class. There is a lot of information to take in. Wagner makes it as interesting and tolerable as possible.
Very boring and very hard. The test are crazy: must learn the smallest details that he does not even talk about. I love microbiology but this guy makes it tough to sit through. BTW, I have either an A or B in the class so I'm not just saying this because I goofed off or anything. Do yourself a favor and take in the summer with havner!
I feel that I didn't learn a thing in his class. It's not a hard class but he makes it hard. His questions were really tricky at times. Don't take him if you don't have to.
I think he's a fantastic teacher, he tries his best to make the class interesting and fun and is VERY passionate about his content. He does give bonus points for attendance and 90% of the tests come from minute details in the class notes so write down everything. He sells his lecture slides at Lasergraphics. Fun if you take an interest.
Dr. Wagner is a good teacher, take him, the others are boring from what I hear! He knows that we are not bio majors, and teaches accordingly. You can buy his powerpoints and use them in class, which is very helpful. He tries really hard to keep your interest, and uses alot of visuals. Tests were not difficult if you studying for a couple of hours.
He would be better teaching elementary school because hes so corny. His class is very hard and his notes dont help a bit. Live out of your Micro book use the book to study and not the notes. If you just look at the notes you WILL fail He offers some extra credit but not enough to do any justice. My advice: Take it during the summer and avoid Wagner
Tests are short answer, fill in the blank and essay questions. Some of the questions on the tests were not over material covered in class. I found that guidelines and requirements were very unclear for the projects in this class.

The class was a complete waste of time. I learned nothing and came out of the class angry. You could never figure out what his tests would be. When he is in a bad mood he makes it very obvious and takes it out on the students. I would not recommend taking his class, the best two class days we had were when he was gone and others taught.
Wagner got off topic very easily and his notes didn't help at all. If it weren't for SI I probably would have failed. And even with SI, I would feel completely prepared for the test and then get there and the questions would be worded horribly and a lot of times there would be material we had not covered. Do not take Wagner if you can help it.

The material seemed easy, but the tests were very difficult even with studying and SI attendance. If you ask for help he will do a little, but only if you attend SI. SI meetings were very helpful. He's very smart, just doesn't know how to teach.

I am an A/B student..i try very hard in all my classes..this mans lecture leads u to believe u have a grasp on the material.his test are out of control. he knows material.he DOES NOT know how to teach. Expect the unexpected. Hes funny but he tests you over the random things he says during lecture. He was never in line with lab. We were always at least 2 or 3 weeks behind everyone else.

I would not recommend taking him. He wastes a lot of time goofing off with useless demonstrations and models when the time would be much better spent trying to clarify the topics covered. He does not explain much and does not narrow down material for tests. I was often left more confused about topics. He's funny, but his humor leads to time wasted
you must go to every class!!! literally take notes on everything he says, except all his corny jokes. on tests he really likes to throw in a couple of random small things he went over in class and when studying, read the end of chapter summaries. This teacher is the WORST teacher EVER. His Test have nothing to do with what he teaches you. Do not take this professor. He does not care to teach students what they need to know. You will learn more jokes than you will about microbiology. And, you are going to fail every exam because he does not cover the material he puts on the exams. Do not take him for a professor. The class is fine, but the professor is rude and will not teach you.
Wagner tries to make the class fun but sometimes he is too goofy. His tests are mainly from the lecture notes but he also ask questions from the book to make sure you are reading. Sometimes what he says and what the book says doesn't match so it can be a bit confusing. Overall his class is not that bad.

I loved this class. It is very easy if you listen and pay attention on what is goin on in the class. He was very helpful when it came to his office hours. He never wants to make his students fail, however you just have to ask for the help. Overall best science class I have taken for teaching majors. :)
I don't recommend taking him, unless you have to. You're not up a creek if you have to though. Don't text in his class. He usually curves the tests, but he won't tell you by how much until after. Get used to waiting about a week for your grade. Do lecture assignments! Don't forget your clicker. GO TO SI!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Wagner is the reason I am no longer a Biology major. What he teaches in class and what shows up on the test are completely different. The average for the class for every test we took was in the 50's. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

He was my first college professor and he wasn't all that good. He told a lot of joke though and kept us entertained
I didn't have a lot of trouble as far as grades in Wagner's class but he was absolutely useless. His lectures and the test material are almost completely unrelated and he spends most of his tim preaching as opposed to teaching. He treats his students like high school kids but his tests are pretty difficult, and he's always talking about god.
i would not recommend taking Wagner. his lectures have almost nothing to do with his tests and he spends most of his lecture time telling you about his personal life.is tests are really hard and you practically have to go and reteach yourself all the material. in short: he teaches like a high school teacher but he tests like a college professor.
I do not recommend him at all. I did really well in biology before and then I took him. His lectures do not pertain to his tests at ALL!! You have to study a lot to end up with a good grade. The only plus to this class is that he gives extra credit on the tests. BUT THAT'S IT! do not take him if you have to.

He is a great, fun professor whose powerpoint notes are online and very useful after he goes over them in class! I'd take him again, though DON"T be late to class. lol he will point you out and lecture for like five minutes on it. He starts class off with football reference or like a class involved example like puting boxes together as codons. Take

I took his MWF 9-9:50 class and he is VERY Childlike and the SI is way more Helpful than the lecture. Attendance is mandatory and you need a clicker!! I would NOT reccomend anybody take him unless you love biology!!

He is a very bad teacher! The class starts out good, but then before you know it he is talking way over your head. He does not like you to stop him to ask a question. You have to wait till he ask if you have one. Also for lab he is not clear what is due and what is not!

Lecture: he likes to theme it with his personal life. At first you will like the stories but after a while in the semester you will think "what does this have to do with bio?" He gets off topic, says "uh" to many times. You will get confused if you do not 100% understand Biology starting the semester. Test: Are easy if you study, Go to SI.

He tends to go on about his personal life a lot, and when he does it takes a good 10 minutes for him to actually make a point to the lecture, sometimes the story doesn't tie in at all. The tests are difficult because of the way the questions are worded. Extra credit is given but there was a time where he looked at it and said it wasn't good enough
Great professor and genuine about wanting to help students. Too bad you can't see what grade someone has made that rates him poorly. I guarantee they put in no effort and wanted a grade handed to them. I earned my grade with lots of hard work. He knows his stuff and teaches it well!
He is a pretty good teacher. He brings in a lot of props to try to make the material you are learning more visual. He offered a lot of study aids to help with the test, he doesn't want you to fail. Some students just pick up the information easier than others. Read the PPTs and understand the concepts enough and you will be fine.
Wager means well but he is hard to listen to because he constantly talks about his family and says "uh"/"Uhm" after almost every sentence. He is very inconsistent with reviews, for some test you will have a review, practice test, and a cheat-sheet on a notecard and then for others he won't post any review and ignore your emails.
The class was really hard. He talks the whole class period and says "um" and "like" almost every other word. It is hard to stay focused. He does not give review sheets and have a lot of outside homework.
My experience in Dr. Wagner's class was very frustrating. His lectures are filled with stories from his personal life that do nothing but distract from the material. On several occasions, Dr. Wagner became defensive when we asked questions, thus creating a terrible learning environment. The only reason I got an A was because the textbook.
Lectures were very confusing because he would go off on a tangent every 10 minutes that had nothing to do with the lecture then he would jump to the next slide without warning. When you asked questions he would answer them in a way that made no sense or didn't even answer the questioned asked. The class is easy but lecture isn't fun to sit through.
Microbiology can be a very hard subject and you won't find a prof that makes it any easier than Dr. Wagner. He drones on and on and on, but you can skip classes and get notes from a friend when you miss.
A majority of the time he talks about everything but biology. The tests are over the textbook and homework, has very little to do with in class lectures. There is a lot of bonus points. Make sure you take advantage of those because this will help you out in the end. Would NOT take this professor again.
WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD! Unfortunately, he is the only one who teaches BIO309. He won't stop talking about his family and personal life, so get ready to teach yourself the material by reading the book. There are lots of online hw, so keep track of your due dates. You'll never know what exactly is going to be on the test. He's very confusing.
This class may be easy but I thought the lecture was boring and not at all different from the powerpoints. I did not really enjoy this class but it was not very difficult.
Absolutely ridiculous. Doesnt even begin lecturing until 20-30 minutes into class, tells multiple unnecessary stories for about 30 minutes of class, and then lectures from a PPT that doesnt even contain the information needed to do the hw and tests. His voice is terrible, almost like a cartoon character that doesnt annunciate.

Actually the worst professor at SFA. His tests are ridiculous and his lectures are boring. He talks too much about his personal life and not enough about whats going to be on his tests. You'll think you're ready for his tests but get to the test and have never seen any of that information before. Micro is hard and Wagner doesn't make it any easier
Do not take this guy, I had to because he was the only professor to teach freshman level BIO that I had to take. Talks more about his family life than the material and the test barely covers what he teaches.
Dr. Wagner digresses entirely too much in his lectures and most of the time gives information that is either not pertinent to his tests or is just personal tidbits. The book he swears should be bought and utilized was hardly ever (if at all) referenced. I strongly do not recommend unless you like independent learning and mostly off-the-wall exams.
I had no choice but to take this professor, and I wouldn't have if there was a better option. He is nice, but if you catch him in a bad mood, he's not. He will help you if you go to his office hours. He is test heavy but spends more time during lectures talking about this personal life than about microbiology. He is very scattered brained.
I had him for lab and he is the funniest man. he is really caring and this lab was really easy. it was originally going to be face to face but to be safe we had it all online and it was just a weekly quiz that we students took. It was easy to do well if you just got the work done.
There is no other choice for Micro. other than him. His exams are dense, and often do not reflect covered or discussed material. His lectures are disorganized and he spends abnormal amounts of time discussing his personal life instead. He dismisses Covid as not as dangerous as other pathogens and mask-wearing. Online HW heavy.
Probably the worst professor Ive ever had to be frank.
I would not take another class with this professor. The lectures were, for the most part, completely uninteresting. He basically put everything on Mastering Biology and used that to teach us. He said that reviews dont work, even when the average grade on quizzes was 61%. He was passionate, but no one wanted to go to class.
Avoid taking him if possible. Will give you McGraw Connect hw for every homework chapter but only 60% of it will be on the exams, not sure where he gets some of the exam material from. He forgets what he talks about and it confuses everyone even more. Will belittle you any chance he gets.
I dont know why Wagner gets such a bad reputation. He is a wonderful professor and really cares about teaching you microbiology. The exams are not easy BUT all of his exam material comes from his PowerPoints or handouts. Show up to class and he literally tells you what essay questions will be on the exam! Just take time to study to get an A!
The homework he assigns are hours long and over parts of the textbook he won't test you over. Definitely study the slides/handouts. He will absolutely try to trip you up by using something he talked about for two minutes on slide 123 of 150. It's hard to study for his exams, but he does give out study guides and extra credit. Very scatterbrained.
