Horrible teacher who takes attendance dislikes giving A grades to students. Preschool is his style.
totally nice guy. real personable. fun speaker. just know his criteria, don't turn in anything late, it's not hard at all.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!! Never graded and returned assignments. He wasn't helpful at all and I didn't learn anything.
Excellent Teacher, to class on time every day. Expectations are clearly written and enforced. Meet the expectations and you will do fine.
write a paper every week and at the end of the qtr pick best 4 and thats your grade. No grammar teaching and going to class was BS and just to make a good impression so your name stands out at the end.Teacher seems lazy as hell and talks about whatever. If you can suck up and write B4 youll B fine.
you'd have to be one failure of a human-being not to get an A in this class. Don't bother buying the book...it's useless...just come to class everyday and sit in the front..make sure to suck up plenty! I'm pretty sure half your grade is based on what kind of person he thinks you are.
freaking lazy teacher, it's a useless reading discussion class rather than learning how to write research paper, he cancells class too often and patterns of excuses, i don't know whether to be mad or be happy
this professor is so lazy!! and wont help u later class!
what's the big deal if you don't get too much work to do. At least you have time to concentrate on other classes too, not sit and write and read 24/7. Your time is more flexible with this teacher. Don't complain unless your db
Well, overall he is a wonderful professor. When it comes to dealing with technical issues he is very understanding. The best part is that at the end of the quarter you select four of your best essays to recieve credit for.
Awesome teacher, very helpful and understanding. Took two of his classes and recommend him to anyone i can.
I found he's really nice, very willing to stay after and talk about stuff. Overall nice guy, no surprise essays or anything, Just work on a major one throughout the quarter. Work my while.
This teacher is awesome. Hes very intresting and holds many debates. You write about 4 small essays plus a research paper. I would recommend Steve to anyone!
Only three 2-3 page essays, and one group presentation/paper throughout the quater. Only two easy quizzes on the reading, which you don't need to even buy the books. Everyday was basically class discussions on current events. No final, just a 8-10 page research paper on anything you want as long as it has a point.
I took an online class form this professor. He never posted grads until the last few weeks so we had no idea how we were doing in the class. He took up to a week to answer emails. Posting dates were always wrong so that we cloud not post our papers. Calendar dde date conflated with online due dates. Started the class with 45 people ended with 12.
Overall the class was really easy. It was discussion based. As long as you have something to say about topics then you will be fine. He always gives a day before you turn in your paper to do a peer review in class. He's a nice guy and really makes you think. Take him!
Absolutely the worst teacher, Didn't get any grad progress reports until the last week of the class, Also has you read depressing books about people “kids” with cancer. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!! It took him a week to respond to question and the the turn in dates on line never work right.
Online class is horrible. One week left and still only one assignment graded. never understand what he wants. never receieved any feedback!
Pretty interesting class. Beginning of class he tells you there's 5 papers total, end up writing 8, including the big paper at the end. He was understanding and very open to questions, which I appreciated. The papers are pretty simple. make sure you go to class...there might be a pop quiz on the reading assigned, and there's a lot of reading.
This teacher did not answer questions, he did not want to hear your excuses but freely informed us of his woes, and while many indeed, it was unprofessional. His objectives were unclear, he did not provide clear feedback, I did not learn alot from him, I was often frustrated in this class. he is very distracted, I would not recommend him
I thought he was a great teacher. Though he often lacked the details of description, his super easy grading made up for it. He told us that the lowest grade we would get on a paper was a B-. Awesome.Plus he is just a great guy.
seemed to be a really hard teacher while taking the class but i got an A when i thought i was going to get a B. just anser his questions and he will like you. you have to work hard but you can get an A in 201 .

I loved this class. Made class interesting and allowed for good discussions. Stuck to the syllabus, and actually made us do less work then originally planned. Lot's of writing but he goes over a ton of examples and is willing to extend due dates if necessary. He is nice, approachable, and knowledgeable.
Mr. Yarborough exceeded all of my expectations and definitely gave me my money's worth in throughout the course. He is very thorough, knowledgable, and approachable. He sticks to the syllabus and gives a managable workload with workable deadlines. He is a great teacher and I would recommend him to anyone who is serious about succeeding in school.
Professor Yarborough is NOT an easy class. It IS an enjoyable one, as well as worth taking. The in-class discussions were great, though I wish there were more of them. He is a great teacher if you are willing to work for your grade.
Attendace is required, give clear instructions of what is expected. Gives work days that aren't mandatory, but he is there to help. Very fair.
VERY tough grader, he is very good about answering questions and does NOT like running start students. Don't ask him obvious questions because he will make fun of you :)(in a funny way). At the end of the quarter he was much more leanient he just wants you to do your best!! Make sure to update your profile throughout the quarter!
Very interesting. Did a great job at involving the class in discussions. The book is actually a pretty good book and assignments weren't usually too difficult. There is no final you just turn in revised copies of all of your essays. Very fun class.
Professor Yarborough is a great Prefessor. Dont take him if you just want an easy A. He will work with you as long as you try. I learned more in his 201 class than I had ever in any english class.
Professor Yarborough is a very intelligent, reasonable instructor. His class was enjoyable and motivating, and as long as you put in the neccessary effort, you will enjoy and excel in this class. There was a lot of writing required, which was tiresome, but I definitely recommend him as an English teacher!
His World Liturature class was one of the best classes I've had!Be prepared to read a 200 page book a week, and anaylze. He loves people who talk and use textual references. His expectations are very clear, and if you follow guidelines,do the reading, and speak in class, you'll do well. Very easy going, willing to explain and help.
He makes a great teacher because he has such a huge interest for his subject, which makes it easier to get into. He had us read a chapter book, 180 pages minimum, 350 pages max each week and we have deep analysis of the books. This makes the midterms/finals easy. Really pleased with this teacher. Attendance is somewhat mandatory.
Teacher was hardly present in online class and did not grade a single assignment after over four weeks. It was hard to guage my progress in the class since there was NO feedback at all.
Online class had virtually no contact with him all quarter. No grades posted from week 2 through week 9. No feedback on research papers, discussions, and journals. Virtually no participation in discussions. Didn't answer email or discussion board queries about assignments.
Steve is a great teacher. He defintely knows how to keep students interested and involved and is always lively. I really loved having 201 with him! Yes, he is slow to hand back papers, make the schedule, etc... BUT he totally makes up for it!
Definitly do not take this class with this teacher unless you want to be offended and have no life. He's very unintelligble, and rude, and he wears the same clothes everyday. He sterotypical and downright biased. He grades horribly, and I'm not just saying that. Overall avoid this teacher and keep a 20 ft radius, considered yourself warned...
I took Yarboroughs online class in 2008. I recieved only my first paper back graded. After that I was in the dark. Never heard from him again. I sent an email, but never heard back. The only time I knew how I was doing was when my grade posted on my transcript. I got an A, so I'll call this class easy. But I literally learned nothing.
I took this class online for summer quarter and surprisingly it wasn't as bad as I thought. There really wasn't a TON of work to do in the class. Problem I had for the class was I never got ONE grade back on any papers so it was hard to see how I was doing or what I needed to work on. I ended up with an A so I won't complain.
Steve is a good instructor, although sometimes slow to return graded work. This isn't a class to take if you're a precious snowflake that can't handle criticism, or a slacker that doesn't like to do the work. Navigating the on-line portion of the course was sometimes confusing, but not impossible.
Participation is required...sort of. Said it would be a crucial part of grade. I participated twice and still got an A. When no one shows up there is a quiz. There is one group project which was kept a secret until one week before. If you're a liberal you'll love this man, he loves to shove his opinion in your face while saying he doesn't do that.
Slow to return graded work, I am turning in assignments before receiving feedback from the previous one. Online class: He does not open the assignments for viewing until right before they are due, I find myself reminding him of things. He does not participate in discussion, at all. He told me to use student feedback when writing my next papers.
he's interesting, wants his students to know what there doing when the leave his class and is one of my better professors, I recommend him if you need to take an English credit or just want to discuss today's issue and learn to write a well rounded argument. he does require alot of reading but most of its really interesting.
one of the best teacher i have had he keeps everything interesting and the topics are really well thought out to keep the student happy and not alot of homework MUST take teacherNOT hard at all
He never gives back the essay's that you submit. You can't tell whether your doing bad in that class until the end. Very frustrating quarter, tried very hard to achieve an A.
WOrst teacher ever; does not grade any papers untill after quarters over. Not clear and HATES repeating himself. Rude and worst professor I have ever had a BC. DO NOT Take him online.
I'm taking online English201 and I must say, it's a horrible class. He has graded barely anything and is very unorganized. Directions are extremely difficult to follow at times. Some directions are written in more than one place that are supposed to be the same but aren't.
took his class on campus. learned so much. his assignments are challenging but he's willing to help you and wants you to do well. expects you to research early on. try to find a particular topic that's controversial yet hasn't been tediously debated on. provides clear expectation from students on syllabus. did not regret taking his class!
He is very helpful. He gives lectures everyday to make sure students understand the assignment or essay. He can help you in class or by email. Just do essay on time and read every two days. He grade based on the essays and quizs and attendance.
Dissapoimted with this class, no teacher feedback or interaction with any asssignments or discussion, I felt like I was invading his time by writing questions, never recieved one paper back. The only reason to pay for this class is for a grade on a transcript, if you want to learn, save your moneyand just buy the required texts ortake another tea
Teacher was uninterested in our class... we are in the last week of class and I have received one grade out of 20+ assignments. He makes it clear that he thinks there are "stupid questions" and is generally impatient with his students. This online class is time consuming and not fulfilling in the least. I do not recommend this professor.
no feedback, few assignments, we did the reading and then discussed it with each other. Received very few graded assignments back. The only reading was finding Shakespeare's plays online. We discussed the material among ourselves.
Online class, Summer 2011. Never received one grade or feedback of any kind. I have no idea how or if my writing improved. He was no help at all. If you're a decent writer who's just looking to get this class out of the way, this instructor might work. If you need help or are actually looking to improve your writing skills, look elsewhere.
He's the worst teacher I have ever had!!!!! He takes minimum two days to reply to emails, never grades our assignments on time, does not give us feedback on the essays we write, this class was useless. The teacher did not teach me anything. I taught myself by reading the textbook. HORRIBLE!!! Do NOT take this professor.
I don't understand how he has a job at this school - WORST PROFESSOR EVER! He vacationed pretty much the whole class. I took this online and did not hear once from him! Scheduled a meeting the following quarter with him to see why I actually got the grade he gave (A-). No one EVER gets an A, only A- and after trying REALLY hard
I didn't mind this teacher too much. He is impatient with the class sometimes, and can make you feel dumb for asking questions. However he is very clear about assignments and such. Make sure to do the reading and participate in class discussions, you'll do fine.
I took his class online and it was the worst online experience to date. I never received a graded paper back and had no idea how I was doing the entire time. I emailed him numerous times and NEVER got a response. I didn't learn anythingh from him. Not recommended.
Wow. So, I'm taking his online class right now and this guy does not explain ANYTHING at all. I cannot un-reccomend this teacher enough. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR HIS CLASS. I took this for an English/Lit credit fullfillment and I absolutely regret it.
No papers ever returned, only graded about 4 papers out of 20+, it is week 10 now and I have no idea what I had in the class. I asked him to give me feedback and he never did. Never take an online course of his. He was a week late getting the midterm together, he never made a course schedule (although said he would multiple times),just bad overall.
I would not recommend taking any classes from this guy, at least not online. He didn't grade parts of our work until the end of the quarter, and I have no idea what I was doing that he didn't like since he didn't give any feedback, and by the end of the quarter it was obviously too late to change what I was doing!
There are two days left in the quarter, and I have seven grades out of at least 20 assignments. I have received no feedback, and there is no way to rewrite an essay and get better grades. We are supposed to rely on peer reviews, and some of the students don't speak English. The assignments are both banal and unclear. Do not take his classes.
Mr Yarborough was very enthusiastic and passionate, so be prepared to actually talk in class and interact with others. The work load is not that difficult to manage and he always came up with interesting topics to discuss. As long as you read the textbook and make meaningful discussion in class you should be fine.
It's like this teacher was not present at all. He took days to answer our questions and emails. No feedback about our writing, just grades. Grades are good, but not enough to tell us what to to improve or work on. He was probably a nice guy, but I will never take his classes again.
It's like we didn't have an instructor. He seemed like a nice guy, but just not present. Our questions are not answered for days, and when we receive an answer it was not clear, and sometimes even more confusing. Don't take any of his classes. You can do better studying alone!
No feedback on papers till the quarter ends. You are working are your own. You won't feel that there is an instructor there. Discussion topics are too political. DO NOT take his class. Terrible experience
Didnt't grade many of the assignments until the end of the quarter which lead to not knowing how well you were doing in the class or what he expected from your writing. Lots of reading busy work that wasn't useful. Lots of reading other students papers and commenting (6 per week)! Would not recommend.
Tough tough grader, doesn't teach you much in class but rather prompts discussions about the assigned essays, which aren't about English. Assigns 150+ pages of reading per week, every other week you write a short essay.. on the next week's reading, so you are somehow expected to read ahead another 150 pages + the usual before Monday morning!
Took the english 201 course online and the teacher is never present. Takes days to respond back to students and the class was very unorganized! Essays do not get graded right away and probably won't be graded until the end of the quarter. I do not recommend taking this teacher for any english classes!
This teacher is never present throughout this course and it's almost like he doesn't exist. It was very frustrating that he did not grade almost anything until the day that grades were due. His grading is also very inconsistent. I received full marks on a discussion one week, and almost no marks on the next week while my work was very consistent.
Awful teacher. He has so many incorrect dates its hard to know when anything is actually due. Tons of reading, and most of it needs to be done the week before its assigned. Unorganized, never responds. One of the worst teachers I have ever encountered. I wish I could drop the class but its to far into summer quarter.
Fall 2016, essay due every week. He doesnt grade the weekly essay, but if you dont come to the peer review with an essay you lose a lot of points for participation for the week. Hes very funny and personable and pretty good at explaining things, but dont take his class if you aren't willing to work for it. Portfolio due at the end of quarter 200pts
I thought he was pretty chill, there was 10 essays to do but you really only need to do 4 good ones to pass
If you are willing to put in the work, and a generally good writer, there is no reason why you shouldn't receive an A. You HAVE to show up to class because 300Points are based on participation and peer reviews which you have to come to class for. Essay once a week gets tough. I liked him though.
Steve is an amazing professor, if you come to class and do his work there's no way he can fail. He teaches so much about literature no one ever knew before
Steve is an amazing professor and I really enjoyed his class. I can't stress this enough, if you DO THE WORK AND PARTICIPATE IN DISCUSSIONS, you're virtually guaranteed an A. Don't skip class, there is a 200pt participation. 1-page paper due every Monday, about 80 pages of reading every week, and notes due on Monday. Straightforward quizzes on Fri
Mr. Yarborough had us write a total of 10 papers in 11 weeks. Although the papers weren't very hard, some of the prompts seemed redundant so they got boring. He strongly believes in participation so get ready to raise your hand. Later in the quarter, he loosened up a little and let us out of class EXTREMELY early.
Steven was an okay dude. If you skip class your grade will drop dramatically. Show up and do the papers for the peer reviews or you won't get an A. I missed one peer review session and I got a B+ as a result. He doesn't grade papers hardly at all though so aye.
I took English 101 and this teacher seemed to just attend class and teach for a paycheck, because he cancelled all the time and he always let us out early. But personally this was nice because it was the easiest A I have ever acheived.
Takes ages to issue feedback and grade. Hardly ever responds within 24 hours to messages, and then usually cryptic or irrelevant to question at hand. Grades on a subjective basis of appreciation rather than the objective merit of the work. Puts in insufficient work overall into his work.
If you're a running start student or just don't have enough time for homework, I don't recommend. Essays every week, so don't fall behind. There's chapter discussions everyday that are literally what your next essay is on, so make sure you have the books. Half of the lectures are pretty boring to be honest, so I found myself checking the time.
Teaching is obviously not his first priority. He cancelled a lot, took ages to grade papers, didn't give very tailored feedback, and led often unrelated discussions in class time. Mostly, his cocky attitude bugged me. I didn't respect him as a teacher and that made it a harder environment to learn in. Plus... Papers every single week got annoying.
awful teacher
Never received any feedback on papers. Did not know how to improve essays because assignments weren't even graded until after the class was over. Everything I learned, it was from the book, and I still don't know if I did it correctly. A lot of writing and canvas posting with absolutely no feedback from Professor at any time.
Essays due every single week of the quarter which gets annoying really fast. Lectures were basically just to discuss and brainstorm about the essay you will be writing for the week. You have readings from the book due every week as well but I recommend actually reading them because they were REALLY helpful when it came to writing the essays!
The class was called Intro to Research Paper. Instead of spending the course on learning how to write a research paper, we read essays from a textbook on Current Issues and discussed them. We watched a few documentaries also. Work is 3 fairly easy papers about Amendments. The final essay is 8-10 page double-spaced paper which needs to make a point.
Pretty easy class if you show up and do the essays/notes on time. Essay every week until the final where you submit the best into a portfolio. Lets you out SUPER early most days and cancelled class pretty much once every week. Lectures are super boring though.
Cancelled class a lot and when we have class, he will dismiss us super early. Slow grader for papers. He lets students choose how the grading criteria for the class will be, so dont be quiet if you dont agree with certain parts! Overall, pretty average.
I could already tell that he was not the kind of prof for me (I dropped after a week). the first week he told us we were probably not good writers because of the education system (hadn't even written an essay). He also asked us if we had any concerns about the syllabus, and when we asked, he didn't give an answer. seemed arrogant. weekly essays
Essays were required almost every week, and he was extremely late on grading. Rubrics were very vague and I didn't understand what his expectations were. Peer reviews took place every Monday, and participation matters. This class requires lots of time and effort to keep up with (tons of writing and reading).
An essay and summary of the chapter read from the textbook are required weekly, slow grader with no constructive feedback since the grades were received after the course is over. Class is discussion based with no quizzes, professor called sick at least ten times throughout the course and the class is usually dismissed early. Course not recommended.
Got sick during our course and gave us full credit for some assignments without having to compete them. Instructions are a little confusing for some assignments, start early on them so you can email him if you have questions. Very flexible. Discussions, group work, lots of reading (text book required for course, we completed exercises from).
Great professor! I really like his classes because they are very busy , and a lot of new information! Very respectful teacher!
Extremely late on grading, by the time of the final he had graded zero out of the three essays that he had assigned.
This professor is not very involved with his students. He never responds to emails and is even difficult to contact during office hours. The essays are graded extremely late and do not include feedback. Learning is almost entirely by yourself, through the textbooks. You have to REALLY put in the time for a decent grade.
This teacher did not take the time to actually look at the work that he was putting out to his student. He takes FOREVER to grade the assignments and you don't know if you even pass the class until the quarter is over. Also, doesn't give good instructions, so you are blindly doing the assignments and not even sure if you are doing them right.
Just a couple Canvas submissions & textbook quizzes every week. Grades things really late, isn't very responsive to students. Wouldn't recommend if you want to learn from something other than a textbook by yourself.
This Professor is a very late grader who grades extremely harshly and has no commitments to his students. Everything we do is on a software and the stuff that is done on canvas he doesn't grade until like 4-5 weeks after. this class is literally reading a textbook and answering questions with projects that are again graded late or not even graded.
Prof. Yarborough is a very lazy instructor and most of the weekly work is automatically graded. The weekly workload is significant so get an early headstart if you can. The work is done all on your own and he grades every assignment like a month after it's due, unfortunately. He also fails to give any feedback on actual written assignments. Avoid!
While the initial class layout was nicely organized with us reading the text and writing a related essay (2-3pgs) in a week. All essays are peer-reviewed and most homework was through weekly discussions with weak prompts. However, 4 weeks to the end he changed everything so you were doing one week reading and another week's essay. Unorganized.
This class was easily accessible and organized well. There is about an essay nearly every week and around 5 weekly discussion posts. Mr. Yarborough grades extremely slowly and is a tough grader. Out of the eight essays he has assigned, he has only graded one so far. However, he gives good feedback on what to improve.
Failed to set up the online course for the first 2-3 weeks of the quarter. Didn't respond to a single email the entire quarter. Didn't add due dates to half the assignments. Didn't grade any of the course work until the day before graduation. No useful information was taught at all. Waste of time. Waste of money. 0/10
This person requires you to take more than one typing assignment on the same day. If you a person that doesn't know what going on, join the club his direction doesn't make any sense and a hard to understand.
In his course there is SOOO much reading, you have to write an essay and 5 discussion posts every week. On top off that he is a super slow grader, and hardly gave any feedback on the assignments he actually got to grade. Rarely available to contact. Do not recommend.
he doesn't grade, today is literally the last day of the quarter and he has graded no essay, as of today, I have no clue what my grade will be, if you wanna jump in a unknown ditch take this class.
Yarborough is readily available through Canvas and his texts are somewhat interesting to read. wouldn't recommend this course through him to my worst enemy. He is grading all major papers the day grades are due and the assignments were due turned in during September. Completely irresponsible. Discussions are simple.
The professor was unable to manage an online course. He claimed he will correct the incorrect textbook that was provided. My efforts to correct his foolish, "elementary," mistake took almost half of the quarter. This professor doesn't properly grade; instead, he simply assigns final grades to all of the work without providing feedback.
I recall that the first assignment in his class was to choose a project from the book, but the assignment's instructions weren't provided until two days after the quarter had begun, so I had to complete it blind and wait a week and a half for my book to arrive.
I was trying to ask for help on assignments that were a little confusing for me to understand, so I use the email given in his syllabus to contact him. The response I got back was, "Don't email, contact me on Canvas". Then I contact him through the canvas and he said, "Can you stop contacting me, I have work to handle".
This professor is the most genuinely awful prof I have ever had. Extremely demanding but never grades anything (5 weeks since the last thing he graded) No direction on anything. Do not ever take this professor. If he's your only option wait for the next quarter. I think I'm going to end with an A in this class, but it has been awful so far.
Poorly-managed online class. Instructor graded things very last minute. Don't bother putting in hard work on the assignments as they won't be graded for that. The class didn't feel serious and it didn't feel like anything mattered.
I dropped this class immediately, wayy too many badly set up modules without submission options and 10-15 pages of reading a day. DONT DO IT. IF YOU NEED TO GRADUATE, WAIT A QUARTER IM NOT JOKING.
I think that this professor does well with his teachings in this class. I do wish that he was quicker on grading, so if that's a deterrent be aware of that. However, he wanted to make sure that students understood the concepts that were being taught. And if we had questions, he made sure to be available outside of class time.
This professor took 4+ weeks to grade assignments and was very uncooperative in helping his students get passing grades. Zero empathy or compassion and a very rude guy in general. If you want to graduate, do not take his class, he will royally f you over.
This online class was a struggle - the professor was unresponsive and slow to grade. However, using tools like Unstuckstudy and the provided textbook helped me stay on track. Overall, a frustrating experience, but I managed to get an A.
It is the last week and he hasn't graded a single one of my essays.
Don't expect anything to be graded before the last day of class. No feedback. If I wasn't strong in this subject I'd be upset. I understand having lower priority for asynchronous but it's at the cost of students. I still got my credit though.
The prof was absent for the first few weeks of class. The requirements for the weekly discussions are vague but my main issue is that he didn't respond to any of my clarifying questions when I asked about them. Not a tough grader.
My experience seems to be very different than most but Mr. Yarborough made me wish that I wanted to go into English as a major. Yes, there is a lot of reading but this is second year English. Papers aren't too difficult if you're responsible. If you want to truly learn something and get the grade that you deserve, take Steven Yarborough's class.
Avoid this professor if you can. He doesn't grade your essays until the VERY end. Seriously. He said we could take a week off from class so he could “catch up on grading”, yet nothing has been graded. He sometimes cancels class less than an hour before it starts. Very unprepared. He starts off class by asking students what they want to talk about.
The professor didn't grade any of my assignments until the day AFTER the quarter ended!! Some of his feedback would have been appreciated before I submitted my final research paper! I didn't learn anything from his class either which is such a bummer because why else do I pay to go to school? For some guy to grade my writing after the quarter ends?
