He's a really nice guy, but a fairly difficult teacher. He can just get confusing from time to time, but it's tough material so it's probably just that more than him. He does follow along with the book. If you read the chapters and pay attention you will do just fine! He doesn't take attendence.....

Mr. Aanes is a great teacher. He's goofy and very animated which made class very interesting. I only wish I had him for lecture as well. He explains the material very well. I highly recommend him. Just a tip, if you have Margi Flood for Biology, switch to Aanes. You'll be happy you did. TRUST ME!

He is a little quirky, but funny. It makes the class go by quicker with his randomness. He tells you everything you need to know before the test. I read on my own time as well but it wasn't required. I would recommend him and would happily take him again. He made BIOLOGY very FUNNY:)

I highly suggest taking him! He gives tons of extra credit which helped me to get good grades. His tests arent too hard, and then you add the extra credit homework (which help). He's never ever boring which is good, knows what he's talking about, and can be funny. I learned how to count to five in german too..haha.

Aanes says a lot of corny jokes, and tends to tell a lot of stories, however his method of teaching is very easy to get the hang of, and learn from. He is always available to speak in private, and is always willing to help. If he offered higher-up chem classes, I would not hesitate to take him again. All science teachers should be like him!

Very good teacher. Gives tons of extra credit. Finished with a 115 as my final grade, got a 138 on one of the test. Never studied. Gives review for every test that go over everything the test will be on. Very fun and exciting teacher. Highly recommend.

Mr. Aanes is extremely helpful and gives every opportunity for you, the student, to succeed. The homework he gives is not required, but the extra-credit that it amounts to is so worth it! EXCELLENT. Keep in mind that his lectures may put you to sleep, but that's purely because of the nature of the content. He explains things very well, and is VERY animated. You will laugh at his goofy stories and learn who several characters are including Turock and Franko. If you study and do your EC homework, tests are a breeze. Take him!!

Aanes is the man! I loved this class. 3 quizzes, and 3 tests. No final. He is a great professor, and he is really good at keeping you interested. You come into class and he already has the notes on the board, and then goes over it. No sweat. Good at returning emails and graded work. He has great stories too! Alright.. I'm mid-semester Fall 2010 and think this professor is THE BOMB!! He is witty, animated, helpful, and very clear about his expectations.. HE is the teacher to take for Biology (and Lab). Aanes is probably one of my favorite teachers that I have ever had. His notes are very clear and when you ask him questions, he will answer them to where you would understand them. He also gives out extra credit for each test so make sure you do it because it could help you by a whole letter grade! He also tells many funny stories!!!

Would recommend him to any student! He is a great teacher, full of energy and has a passion for students and teaching. A lot of notes are taken in this class, but if you do not take the notes you probably won't pass. His tests are almost straight from the notes. He won't expect you to know anything he doesn't say. Class is easy so long you pay attention. Purchasing the book isn't even necessary since he covers everything in class.. but this does make effective note-taking key. I'd recommend him to anyone. He always has a story to tell.

Professor Aanes is one of the best professors at GSC. No doubt about it. He is very helpful as long as you put forth effort and he is very personable and hilarious too. You have to pay close attention to what he says in class and make to take down all of your notes.

Lab Class only has three grades! Attendance is not mandatory, but if you want the grade you need to go to class! He is willing to help you as much as you need it and he makes himself available! Wonderful Teacher! Just do the work

He has really good lectures but his test are the hard part, however the test have plenty of extra credit on them to help out with your grade. He lectures from slides and his memory, which turns out to be a ton of accurate information.

I love professor Aanes, he is such a mad scientist. He is very strict with attendance. Great lecturer and extremely helpful. Relates biology with stories so it is completely understandable. He knows every student by name , and there is great sense of familiarity with classmates. Take him for lab because he writes them and they are easy.

Aanes is one of the best teachers that I've had. His tests are based off lecture and he does take off participation points if you miss class, but other than that the class is very easy. He works to help you remember important information and lets you know ahead of time about the problems former students have had on the tests or quizzes.

I was afraid of taking Biology as I considered myself a non-science person. Best decision I made to choose Dr. Aanes. The subject is hard but he guides you through it and reviews thoroughly for every test and quiz. I had an awesome semester. I got an A in lecture and lab.

No homework. lose points for missing class but offers extra credit on every quiz test (3 quizzes, 3 tests--one of which is the final which is non-cumulative, just worth a few more points than the other tests). Most helpful to read chapters before lecture, but study notes.

Loved this class. Aanes is a super understanding down to earth guy. Show up, participate and you'll walk away with over a 100. He likes to tell stories and makes everything applicable. He does not force controversial subjects down your throat as he lets you make up your mind. He likes to make people laugh and he truly loves his job and does it well

You can always tell when a professor loves their job or not and Dr. Aanes loves his job. He remembers all of his students names and made you feel like you were getting your money's worth. I would advise not skipping and showing up late, he's very strict on that. As long as you come to class and listen to review you are sure to get an A.

How ever, if your a person that skips class and/or shows up late a lot, you won't pass this class. He takes points off for tardies and absences. Not many grades but you will get exactly the grade that you worked for

Show up, take notes, follow along with a textbook if you want, and you will make an easy A. All tests and quizzes have a short review the day before plus there is extra credit on each test. Absences are 5 points off your total points at the end of the semester but the class is probably 500 points total so not a grade killer.

I had Dr. Aanes for Biolab 1101. He takes off 5 pts final grade for absents and lab infractions. USE SHARED CLASS FILES. It says his textbook is required but I haven't opened it once, he wrote the book so he probably just wants you to have it. The only grades you get is a lab report, midterm, and a lab practical. He really wants you to succeed.

Had Dr. Aanes for lecture and lab 1101. He is serious about attendance, taking 5 points off the total (not percentage) of your final grade, but he is overall an awesome teacher. Very interesting, very helpful, gives lots of review for tests, even more for quizzes. You have to take a lot of notes, but it's manageable if you pay attention.

Made Subject Fun and easy to understand complex theories

At first, he tries to scare you by giving you an email about how he does class. But, this class turned out to be amazing! He is a really good teacher and gives out a lot of information for his tests. he goes over the material the day before literally gives you the answers. if you pay attention, you will make a solid A. he gives you every answer!

If you tend to be late or skip I do not really recommend this class. Aanes gave examples that were relatable and easy to understand and always did a day of review before each test and quiz. His test also had lots of extra credit, but you also have to study and work for an A. I didn't have him for lab, but heard he was much tougher in lab.

Dr. Aanes was my favorite professor at the college. He has a great care for biology and cares about the students. He will remember everyones name with some catchy nickname. Lectures are not bad with lots of pictures and work on board. He tells great stories to tie biology into the real world. I learned so much in this class. TAKE HIM.

This lab was super easy, but don't plan on missing class at all. He marks 2 points off your final grade for every tardy or absence. The only grades were a few quizzes, one group presentation at the end, and lots of participation. It should be an easy A for everyone. If missing class isn't an issue for you, definitely take him!

He is so funny and so easy to follow in class. He makes things very easy to understand and remember. Clear and direct teaching. Does not try to trick you or beat around the bush. Gets right to the point. 3 tests, 3 quizzes. All 6 comes directly from what he says in class, so come to class.
