His lectures are very thorough and he really knows what he is talking about. Makes them interesting by adding a lot of memorable examples. Attendance wasn't mandatory but he did randomly take attendance every now and then. Exams were a little tough but if you study the material well you'll be fine.
He is very funny in class and create great atmosphere in class, he made all the materials seem so vivd and fun it is the best class I'm taking this semester really enjoy it.
This guy is the truth. Very passionate, knowledgeable, and most of all, enthusiastic. I highly recommend taking one of his courses.
The most passionate prof I have had thus far! He never takes attendance, but his lectures are so entertaining that I never skipped. Exams are tough, but the class is definitely worth taking.
Professor Bengal was a pleasure to take. He doesn't make you buy a textbook and he gives you study guide before each exam. Basically, if you do the study guide and read over it, you will do fine of the exams. There's a few trick questions on each one, however. He's funny and really up to date on events.
This is a really dry class, but Dr. Bengal's funny, cute and dorky style makes it bearable. His teaching is great and you can tell he really cares about his students. However... have to say his tests are kind of weird and hard to get used to, and he doesn't answer emails very well. So I have a little bit of mixed feelings, but overall not too bad.
Steven is amazing. I added his class a week after classes started due to dropping a different 2367 class and it was one of my best decisions of college. He's an amazing prof and has hilarious lectures. There aren't many grades in the class though so study for the tests! Also follow the guidelines for the papers. Trust me.
Psych3325 was a very interesting course and Professor Bengal was the best teacher I have had so far at OSU. He is kind, extremely funny, and gives very entertaining lectures that make learning the material enjoyable. It is important to do well on the exams as there are very few grades in the class, but if you study you are sure to do well.
A great professor. Humor was well mixed with constructive feedback.
Boring class but fantastic lecturer. Has a great knowledge of research methods and can communicate the knowledge clearly to the class. Would take class from this guy again.
Dr. Bengal is an entertaining, funny and very knowledgeable lecturer. I learned a lot from him. The material can get a bit dry toward the end of the class. Tests were very fair. He is very helpful in office hours and is friendly; however, he is slow to respond to emails. You're graded on very few things, just a warning.
I think he's a great guy but personally wasn't a fan of his teaching style. Very quick speaker and his slides were long and PACKED, were hard to study from. Definitely had to put in work to get the grade. Material in class is mind numbing but he does his best to making it interesting. Grades: 3 Exams, 3 assignments, and tophat attendance points.
Dr. Bengal is an amazing teacher. He talks fast, but he makes research methods in psychology somewhat interesting. He is funny and explains things very well. There are not many grades to go off of, and I only used the book for practice questions for exams but that was helpful. Definitely, go to class.
He is super cool and funny. Doesn't grade too tough and does an awesome job teaching the materials. You don't necessarily have to go to class but he does tophat randomly so you can miss a good amount of points not going.
best teacher ever! super funny, really informative, and he's really committed and intelligent.
Dr. Bengal is very lively and tries his best to make the generally dry subject of stats more interesting. He tends to focus on concepts rather than calculations (all multiple choice exams). The structure of the class is slightly annoying due to there only being 200 points, so you can miss very little to get an A - so I wouldn't call it an easy A
Dr Bengal is an interesting professor. He is funny and a little neurotic. He is very knowledgable when it comes to psych of security, and he makes it easy to understand. Test material is right from the slides. Attendance is optional, but will occasionally do a TopHat question that helps build attendance points, but they are throughout the semester.
Dr. Bengal is probably the funniest lecturer I've had thus far. He makes the material enjoyable, and helps you relate the content to real world situations. He DOES talk very fast, but he recognizes this and makes a conscious effort to slow down. He always asks if we have any questions before moving on. Definitely make sure to read the textbook.
He is funny and overall nice. His tophat questions are always hilarious. Attendance is not required but he does tophats sometimes and they count towards your participation grade. Reading lecture slides is much more helpful than going to lectures because he is pretty good at making concepts very confusing by explaining them. Tests are hard.
He's funny and tries to make lectures interesting. I didn't think his tests were bad, the problem is that he (or maybe his TA) is a really tough grader when it comes to the homework assignments. Would have gotten an A if it weren't for that. He says attendance isn't mandatory. but then he does tophat questions and makes them grades.
Professor Bengal is hilarious and he tries to provide real examples to psychological concepts. He does TopHats for attendance about twice a week, but attendance is not mandatory. Either he or his TA is a TOUGH grader though. There were only a few assignments and if you make the slightest mistake on any, your grade will tank. Still a fun prof. tho.
One of the funniest, enthusiastic, and all-around caring professors I've had at OSU. He really enjoys teaching the material and tries his best to make it interesting even if the content itself is not. He will help you through any questions you have and makes everything clear. Show up, do the notes, and study some before exams nothing too crazy.
Professor Bengal is a 10/10 guy. Highly recommend! His exams which are the bulk of his points are more scenario based but are very similar to his daily and weekly questions! Remember to do those because those small points can add up. Also, Top Hat points are very important but he usually did it once a week! He's hilarious!! Such a gem.
Bengal is one of the funniest professors I have ever encountered. However, I thought that PSYCH 2220 was hard and there weren't that many opportunities for points. However, I worked hard and I still got an A. He is a really great guy and always willing to help. I also took him for PSYCH 2300 the following semester and it was a lot easier.
I would highly recommend taking this class with this professor. It's a hard class but he tries his best to 'not make you want to gouge out your eyes'hi. I won't say that's a direct quote but he makes funny remarks like that often to break up how boring the material is.
He is the nicest guy and always willing to help. He is so goofy it makes class really enjoyable. Lots of big terms but just listen to him to explain it.
dr bengal is hands down one of the best professors I have had at osu. he makes everything so clear and simple. his lectures are interactive and interesting! he knows how to make sure concepts "click" before moving on.
He is a great guy who makes the lectures interesting and funny. He is a very nice relatable guy and his classes are a good time. He is very passionate about what he does and his class is fairly easy.
Prof Bengal is a great teacher and does his best to make class interesting. He's a kind person and will work with you so that you will succeed. A true gem, there are not many professors like him.
This professor is one of the funniest most charismatic guys. He truly knows his stuff and also relates it to nerd topics somehow? Due to COVID everything was online but his lectures were just as hilarious and funny as in person. He also makes sure everything is up to date and current with events happening right now. Also, NO BOOK!
I didn't even need to show up to class because I had already taken a similar course, but I showed up just because he was that funny and I enjoyed sitting there and listening to him. He made me genuinely laugh out loud so you should take this course just to brighten your day honestly.
I loved this online 4-week course! It was supposed to be in person, but COVID. He is the funniest prof ever, and all lectures are pre-recorded. No proctorio because 'infringement of rights.' Super brief 10-min lecture overview and then you go through powerpoint on your own. No exams, just weekly quizzes/discussions. I put in about 2.5 hrs/ week
Professor Bengal's class was a great class to take. His pre recorded lectures weren't hours long and they were very straightforward. You can tell he wants students to succeed and understand the material.
Dr. Bengal is a great professor. He makes course content interesting, relatable, and funny. He creates clear criteria for assignments and discussions - he wants you to succeed in the course!
Dr. Bengal is a great choice for Data Analysis. His lecture videos were very helpful and clear on what he wanted you to know. Quizzes and homework were not always easy, but he did offer make-ups for quizzes, which saved my grade, in addition to the extra credit opportunities outside of class. Strongly recommend him if you struggle with math!
Bengal is very clearly interested in what he is teaching. This was my second class with him and I will be taking more. As long as you put in effort in his classes you should not have a problem passing.
Best professor I have had at OSU. Gave lots of extra credit and did not go in-depth with math concepts.
Didnt like his lectures. Rambles wayyyy too much
I've taken two classes with Dr. Bengal (online and in-person) and both were great! He's super energetic and cares about teaching a lot. He responds to emails very quickly and encourages office hour attendance and will make appointments around your schedule. He does talk a bit, but the information is always relevant. By far my favorite teacher @ OSU
I took ap stats so I pretty much knew everything in the class already, but still went most days because Dr. Bengal is so great. He is super funny and talks really quickly so his class isnt boring. If you go to lectures, study, and do the extra credit, you will do good in the class. I ended with a 102% because there is so much extra credit.
This was just a freshman seminar class, but Dr. Bengal made it really fun and informative. Other than a smaller assignment every 2ish weeks, it was really just showing up to his very enthusiastic, engaging lectures that would get you an A.
Dr. Bengal's lectures are very entertaining. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, you'll want to go to class. There are four exams, but since you don't have to do math they aren't that hard. As long as you understand the material you'll be fine.
super funny guy. made lectures really fun with his wit and occasional curse word. but genuinely works to make sure all of this students understand the material. you can tell he truly cares!
I loved this class. the lectures, videos, and readings Professor Bengal gave us were so engaging and interesting. I learned so much in this class as well. Also, the online class had no tests. It was very easy if you just did the work. Also, there were so many extra credit opportunities to boost your grade.
Dr. Bengal is a really good professor. Lectures aren't mandatory. He is really funny and engaging and makes taking this course fun. I would definitely recommend taking this course again.
Bengal is a hilarious professor. His lectures can tend to get ambiguous and his exams reflect such ambiguity, but if you show up to class and pay attention and take good notes you will be fine. His self-deprecating humor made me want to go to class.
SB is very enthusiastic and caring and is very knowledgeable. We had 7 homework assignments that were only 7 questions and 7 points each and they impact your grade a decent amount. we had 4 exams, 30 questions (mcq) and 30 points each. plenty of time to prepare and ask questions if you need to. Lots of extra credit opportunities, so take them!!
Dr. Bengal is extremely knowledgeable in the topics he teaches and is very generous with extra credit opportunities. The course itself is test heavy (4 exams) but his are not cumulative and they're over less than 5 subjects each. Bengal is very enthusiastic and encourages students to ask questions to make sure they understand the material!
This was by far my favorite class this semester. Dr. Bengal is super engaged in the teaching material, funny and has high standards for students. Homework, projects and exams were challenging but fair, and I learned a lot from them (they did not feel like mindless busy work). 100% recommend this class and Dr. Bengal.
Professor Bengal is a very swell guy. I would say lectures are mandatory if you want to have success in this class, especially if you do not have a background in data. I did not know much going in, but I feel pretty confident moving forward because of this course. It's not easy material but I feel lucky I had Dr Bengal to help.
Dr. Bengal is an amazing professor!! I took another one of his course in AU 2021 and I absolutely loved it. Dr. Bengal is amazing at lecturing and he has a way of making sure that you remember the material being taught. Although the exams can be challenging, he is always open to help during his office hours. Definitely recommend!!
Dr. Bengal is funny & relatable, but I did not like his course, he's unprofessional and swears a lot, and although the tests are relatively easy, the format rubbed me the wrong way. Plus, when I took his class, I missed a thing or a religious holiday, and he wouldn't let me make it up. That assignment was the difference between an A- and B+ for me.
I don't do rate my professors, but he deserves an awesome rating. The funniest professor and one who cares about his students. He's always asking us for questions and when we ask them he is so happy to answer them. I hope he stays as a professor for a long time because he can make learning fun.
For Halloween, he dressed up as Steve from Blue's Clues and all of us collectively spent the lecture trying to figure out if he was in costume or not, because it wasn't far from how he dresses daily. 11/10 would attend a lecture of his about paint drying.
I love Doctor Bengal. He is kind but also extremely hilarious in his classes. His mixture of self-deprecation as well as his beautifully crafted power points make him my favorite professor I have had yet. Though the lectures are not attendance-mandatory, you don't want to miss them (especially for his random tangents).
Super funny guy. Lectures aren't mandatory but are never boring - I would recommend attending but he posts abbreviated recorded lectures that are super helpful as well. His tests can be a bit difficult, though - it's sometimes hard to tell exactly what you need to know versus what is extra information. Regardless, he's wildly entertaining.
professor bengal is soo funny and makes sure that he is available for students whenever they need. it's very clear that he genuinely cares about teaching and his students. the course load is heavy and confusing at times but very interesting. if you're confused about something, he provides great explanations and will clear things up. def recommend
A very funny professor who always asks us to "bombard" him with questions and is very quick to respond to emails. He provides full and short lectures on each chapter and puts an emphasis on individual exploration. We had a weekly quiz, discussion posts, questions, journal entry/ activity, and a quiz make-up activity with no exams or tests.
Literally the best professor I've ever had. He's super funny and it's easy to get an A in the class if you do the homework and pay a moderate amount of attention. Couldn't recommend him more.
11/10 My favorite professor EVER. I hate college, but looked forward to his class every day. He wants students to succeed, actually learn, and treats you like a colleague. His assignments were fun to do (I know, it sounds like a reach,) exams are fair (plus cheat sheet!,) and lectures are top tier. TAKE HIS CLASS TAKE HIS CLASS TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
I really enjoyed this class, and though I may not have always understood the material, Dr. Bengal was more than willing to help with any questions I had. He may talk incredibly fast but I guess he's just excited about the material. Also, he might be a stand up comedian in his spare time (need confirmation on this)
Super interesting and eccentric guy. His voice is really funny to listen to. Explains the materials very clearly and tries to answer questions all the time. Even though data analysis seems like a dull class he actually makes it a lot more engaging. Would recommend taking any of his classes.
He's an eccentric and funny guy with excellent music taste. Initially, I was intimidated and scared for my wellbeing in this class, but because he's very good at explaining and teaching, I ended up doing very well. He also gives good feedback if you meet with him during office hours.
Dr. Bengal is one of the best professors I have had at OSU. Funny, engaging, and eccentric. Cheat sheets for exams, but make sure you go to class and pay moderate attention because the slides are not self-explanatory.
Absolutely loved Steven Bengal as a professor. Literally, the best professor I've ever had hands down. His exams can be vigorous but his class is an absolute must-take, a professor I will never forget.
I'm writing this to those of you who attend the first day of class and think, "Wow, this guy sounds so annoying." I thought the same thing on the first day, but I was quickly humbled. Steven is the funniest professor I've had at OSU and he can thoroughly relate the content to the students. He actually teaches and I felt prepared for every exam.
Group work is terrible, but Dr. Bengal makes it bearable! This class was very challenging, but Dr. Bengal was there to support us every step of the way. He gives wonderful feedback, and his great sense of humor helps numb the pain when that feedback is negative. He's quite literally an award-winning instructor, so take his classes!
this man is so real. aside from that he's very caring and handles the subject matter in a very sensitive and informative way that helps us to gain a different perspective on the topic. lectures are great, not too much homework, and exams are easy if you study!
I adore Professor Bengal as a human, but not as a prof.. I was frustrated because one of the exams was way harder than the rest, and everyone I knew consistently did poorly. Lots of A students with 66 %. He is super funny and approachable but does not often answer emails or questions. Grading is unclear sometimes, participation grade is scattered.
Absolute gem of a professor with excellent humor, fascinating and quirky anecdotes and plethora of OBJECTIVE psychology studies (and he's got a TON of passion for psychology and his favorite experiments)! Really down-to-earth, caring, and open-minded. Workload is light, tests are fair, and takeaways are deep and practical. Best GE diversity class!
Another slayful semester with Dr. Bengal. I've taken three of his classes and all of them have been amazing. His lectures are very informative and funny, and he is very open to questions and goes above and beyond to answer them.
Funny.
I wouldnt count on him responding to emails, if you go to office hours hes very good. All assignments have a one week grace period which is a lifesaver. No exams are cumulative and you are allowed a notes sheet for all of them. He does take attendance which really is important took me from an A+ to B+. recorded lectures are bonus class is very fun
One of the easiest classes I've taken, almost too easy. A couple of assignments a week, shouldn't take more than an hour, no reading required. He's a great, engaging, and funny professor, though gets off topic really easily. In my case, these tangents meant missing out on potentially interesting topic areas due to time constraints.
Very fun, passionate, and entertaining.
best professor I have had and love this class! You have 3 exams which you get a notesheet (ec). The assignments seems bad but they really aren't! You also have 2 weekly assignments but they are just for completion. Show up to class and write down all the examples! Examples are key for the class!!!!
Steven was a truly incredible professor. This class was incredibly entertaining. He was hilarious and witty and made paying attention to the lecture much easier. The material is also relatively easy and straight-forward. No complaints at all.
Lecture is never boring, you usually won't want to skip this class. The grading is very clear and there are a few extra credit points up for grab. All assignments have a flexible deadline of a week which is super helpful. His exams aren't set up to trick you --> go to lecture, pass the exams. Oh, and always do the cheat sheets.
Dr. Bengal kept every single lecture fun and entertaining. While lectures were not mandatory he did do tophats for grades and you did not know when he would do them. But the lectures were a class I never found myself dreading to go to. Pretty exam heavy, with some tricky questions. Overall, this has been my favorite class I have taken so far!
He was one of my favorite professors that I had at ohio state!!
One of the best professors at OSU by far. Lectures were always entertaining but material itself can be boring especially if you have taken other law/crim classes. Assignments are kind of tedious and feel pointless, but I would do whatever assignments to take Dr. Bengal tbh. Oh also extra credit!
I think I may be in love with him. Best professor of my life, I think. Don't know how anyone will top this. Hilarious and engaging lectures--he is clearly incredibly smart and truly understands the subject inside and out and is passionate about teaching it. Syllabus and slides and creatively made in Canva and are organized really well.
Great professor. His class was test-heavy, but he allowed a cheat sheet. Assignments are clearly instructed and he grades easily. He does not respond to emails fast, but when he does it is very helpful. Made class engaging and fun. it is very helpful when he does
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Exams are easy enough, cheat sheet on every exam, and tons of extra credit. He makes lecture fun and definitely recommend.
Really a great professor and an interesting class, would recommend to anyone looking for an engaging class. I feel all of the assignments were easy enough and if I didn't miss one of the exams, I would have easily gotten an A without much studying
He's funny
Steven Bengal is the funniest professor I have ever had. He makes you want to attend lecture since he makes the content engaging, interesting, and can lighten the serious content with his humor. He is not a tough grader so if you do the work you should do good. I cannot recommend him enough, he is an amazing professor.
Dr. Bengal is just the most spectacular professor I have ever had at OSU. I feel honestly honored to have taken his class, and you bet I will take more. Definitely take a class with him if you have the chance!!!
Dr. Bengal is an amazing lecturer, about halfway through the semester the information gets stale. I recommend not skipping class because the exams are difficult and fully based off of what he talks about in class. Other than that, the weekly survey and journals are very easy, really only a couple other assignments and no cumulative final.
Best professor ever. I've taken his classes twice, both asynchronous online and in person. Even his asynchronous class/lectures were interesting. I tried to take his class again next semester but didn't need the credit. His classes were genuinely the highlight of my day.
The best professor I have had here. i scheduled another class with him for next semester solely because he is teaching it. Super interesting and funny guy and the class is not very hard if you pay attention
This was my 3rd class I took with him. I honestly hated the class, I loved him as a professor but I hated the class compared to psych 3375. You have 2 weekly assignments, exam, random tophat questions and that basically your grade. You do get a cheat sheet for your exams. The class is chill but the lectures were rough for me. Easy A- class though
I've never written a rate my professor review before, but for Dr. Bengal, I knew that I had to. I took this course while studying for the MCAT and I still found the coursework to be very manageable, I knew what to expect, and I was engaged in lecture the entire semester. I can't say enough good things about this man, he's a legend. Highly recommend
Pls take a class with Dr. Bengal! This is my second one with him and I would so take more. 3900 is a little less interesting than 4485 to me, but they're both amazing. He is so funny and makes lectures entertaining! I felt exams were a little harder in this one but still okay w the cheat sheet. Same layout of assignments. Take any class w him!
His slides are genuinely beautiful to me. He knows how to keep a generation of people who grew up with phones captivated and learning. I felt like I was going to a well done performance every class. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.
He is just the best. Everyone else has said it better than I can but he is absolutely the best teacher I have had here and I cannot wait to take him again.
Great and entertaining professor, tough material, possibly could've explained concepts more clearly but still did a great job
He is hilarious and his slideshows are so interesting and intricate. His assignments and projects allow you to be creative and are very unique compared to my other classes. I'd highly recommend taking his classes.
Very funny & engaging lectures. Exams were very fair, not cumulative, & assignments were interesting. Never seen a professor put so much effort into slides and lectures. Content was really interesting. Highly recommend taking a class with him!
For a GE, I will say I had to invest a lot more time into studying than I had expected too. However, Dr. Bengal will genuinely make you LOL. Whenever he teaches it feels like you're catching up with one of your close friends. He is very informal in his teaching style (which is refreshing bc a lot of professors are strictly about business.)
Dr Bengal really invests time and effort in his lectures and slides, with a laid back teaching style. He is super funny and his assignments are creative and fun. In my opinion, his exams are pretty fair so I would recommend going to class and studying, but he allows a cheat sheet which is clutch. I'd highly recommend taking one of his classes!
My 2nd class I took with him. Class was ok, I loved him as a professor but the class was not my favorite compared to psych 3375. You have 2 weekly assignments, 3 exams, and random tophat questions. You do get a cheat sheet for each exam which is extra credit. But he didn't round my 89.94 up so now I hate him
Dr. Bengal is super funny and a great professor. Class was fairly easy and a 4 week online course with loads of extra credit opportunities. The material was also really interesting and the format of the class made me appreciate it all the more.
Dr. Bengal is great, he is a little gremlin in the best sense of the word. He is so, so passionate about the things he teaches, and made the class super interesting. The class was like 2 assignments a week that took no more than 20 minutes. Exams were super easy; never studied and we were allowed to have a cheat sheet. Dr. Bengal is the goat
Creative class and is very funny. He also is very knowledgable in his field.
Dr. Bengal was a very engaging professor, but it can be difficult to get an A if extra work isn't put in the study outside of class. The lecture slides were slightly confusing, and there were no notes to accompany them. Don't go to class, then you won't get the information. Three non-cumulative exams and a few different types of assignments.
Although his class may seem enticing with his visually appealing slides and his comedic lecturing style, save yourself the stress and find another class. If you don't show up to every class and take detailed notes, forget about getting a good grade. His slides are hard to follow and he doesn't list any study guides or review content for exams.
