He is awesome!! Helps you adjust as an incoming freshman. Tests are always the same 50 multiple choice right of the notes in class. Uses big words but you can understand them in context. Overall awesome guy and really likes his job!!
Great biology teacher. 5 tests, 50 multiple choice. one writing assignment on a topic of choice, 2-4 pages, not bad at all. His tests are directly from his powerpoints and doesnt include anything he didnt cover in class. He will answer all questions and do his best during tests. If your afraid of Bio, take him, he'll ease you in.
Awesome professor. Very straightforward and fair. Tests are very easy and the one project wasn't bad. Overall great guy. Would recommend to anybody.
Such a great teacher, very nice, fair and is there to answer any question. Make sure you pay attention and you will do fine in the class.
Professor Carleton is an awesome professor. Biology was not a strong suit of mine, but he was there whenever I had questions. You can tell he genuinely wants you to do good. What is discussed in class is what is on the test.. very straight forward. Take him if you can!
I couldn't disagree more with these comments. I am a good student and a good test taker and I don't agree his tests are right from the power points at all, the questions are related to the power points but require a lot of critical thinking and complete understanding of the topic to figure out. Wouldn't recommend.
LOVED this professor. He was very straight forward with the material and all you need to study are the power points. Tests are easy and the class is very laid back. Easy A if you pay attention and study. Great professor.
Amazing professor, extremely thorough, VERY knowledgeable, and totally approachable. This is THE professor for Bio, he is 100% the best. My favorite teacher at Quinnipiac thus far. He truly helps you understand the material, and he is so confident in his own knowledge of the course.
Very good teacher! His tests are straight forward and you learn a lot.
Awesome professor. Tests are 50 multiple choice. Simple power points but must take good notes to do well
Doctor Carleton is fabulous. He was a vet so he uses examples that are real life when he explains his topics. He really knows how to keep your attention. His class is really laid back, also. Pay attention to what he says, and study hard. His tests are not super difficult, but I would not necessarily call them easy, either
Professor Carleton is a very nice man and a good teacher, he definitely knows his material. The tests are 50 multiple questions and are pretty difficult - you definitely have to put in some time studying for this class!
BEST TEACHER EVER.
Professor Carleton is honestly such a nice professor and he is always crystal clear with what he wants. I struggled in the beginning of the course, but he helped me so much and I ended up getting a better grade than I expected. I would recommend again and again!
Great teacher, would recommend him to any freshman looking for a good into to bio class. Tests are based right off the power points, yet attentiveness in class is important.
Very clear and well spoken. Powerpoints are easy to understand. Great professor. Tests are fair.
Dr. Carleton is the best! Very clear on the material and puts powerpoints online at the beginning of the semester. Warns you about exams two weeks in advance. 5 exams, all mult. choice. Highly recommend
Very kind professor but is a very tough grader. Do not expect to do very well on handed in written work. Exams are clear cut and you would be better off studying lecture notes then the Bio manual. However, exams are fair.
Great professor who teaches biology in a way students can understand. He gives good examples and puts his powerpoints online so students can study off of them. He takes his questions from them. That being said, the tests are never easy and I had to spend a lot of time studying for them to pass. But it is not impossible and he is very helpful.
Awesome professor for a lab! He is very helpful and engaging. Almost always out early. Does not make you do the follow up questions and only two quizzes which were simple. Definitely would take again!
Professor Carleton was an amazing bio lab professor. He helped his students complete their laboratory experiments correctly and he was always there to help.
Dr. Carleton is amazing. He is clear and really helps you understand the material. He's always there for you if you need assistance. His tests are not that difficult if you study his power points and read the textbook!
He is a really great guy who cares about teaching and will answer any questions in the middle of a lecture. You can't talk to him after class if you need to for extra help. His lectures are easy to understand and his tests are very straightforward.
Carleton is my favorite professor. He explains everything so clearly and gives great examples in order to remember the material. His tests are based only on what you do in class so no extra reading is necessary! Tests are very strait forward. I would 100% recommend him!!
I'm so glad I had Carleton for BIO101. His tests were very straightforward, right out from the powerpoints and he is a brilliant man. He is very passionate about teaching and as long as you study beforehand and don't cram the night before a test, you will get an easy A
Carleton is an amazing professor!!! I am so glad I have him. I am not a great Bio student but he was willing to meet with me during his office hours to calm my stress and give me good study tips. He is very intelligent and you can tell he is passionate for what he does. I definitely recommend.
I have a lot of respect for professor Carleton. He delivers clear, quality, and comprehensive lectures. As long as you show up and pay attention you will pass. I also enjoy his radiating charisma. Professor Carleton is all around an exemplary teacher TAKE HIS LECTURE
Great teacher. Good vibes, positive attitude. Short (30 slide) power points. Obvious what you need to know for tests and if you study/ put in effort it's an easy A. Must take. Only recommended textbook use for the final but you really don't need it at all.
Lectures were always clear and incorporated experiences and fun examples. Everything you needed to know for tests was in the Powerpoint (posted online) and lecture. If you take notes, you won't need to use your textbook AT ALL. Clear and simple tests. He was funny and made class interesting. He does take attendance, you get a few unexcused absences
AMAZING!! Had him for BIO 101 and took him again for 102. Uses power points and if you take notes the textbook is not needed. Super clear and tests are straightforward. Always willing to help and goes out of his way for his students. He also was a veterinarian so he has some interesting stories. Great person and professor.
Love Carleton! He doesn't make you use the textbook, everything that is on the test is from his powerpoint. He is never unfair but also not easy! He gives a lot of fun examples about animals because he was a vet. Overall, such a great professor and a nice guy.
Awesome! Had him for 101 and took him again for 102. Am also taking him next semester for anatomy. Lectures are super clear and has funny stories about when he was a vet. Tests are very straightforward, just study the powerpoints. Makes sure you understand the material and is always willing to help. He caters to students strengths, not weaknesses.
Great professor! Taking him again for Anatomy. Tests are tough and so is the material, so be ready to read the book and not just from the powerpoint. Most of his PPT are pictures so take good notes during lectures.
Dr. Carleton was awesome! The questions on his tests can be a little tricky though, but I feel like I learned a lot from him nonetheless. He tries to give real life examples to help you understand the material and often talks about his career as a veterinarian. Take him!
Really nice. The tests aren't too bad if you study, but you don't need to study for that long to do well.
he's an awesome teacher. his powerpoint are straightforward and he really explains everything. if you don't understand something hell explain it in a different way for you. no hw, 3 online quizzes. tests are straight from notes. no surprises. textbook used at your discretion.
Had for 101 and now 211. By far best and most straight-forward professor you will have. Make sure you take notes in class because he uses a lot of pictures to explain the information. Nothing needed from textbook. All exams are strictly from lecture. No surprises. All exams are very general questions. Must take. 100%.
Dr. Carleton was a great lecturer. He gave plenty of examples outside of what was in the notes. He teaches from his own powerpoints and the textbook is only used for the online quizzes. The tests were all multiple choice and one short answer and were relatively easy.
smart guy that definitely knows what he is talking about. his tests are directly from the notes, and the final was extremely easy. you definitely have to study hard and start early to do well on the tests. overall, great professor highly recommend.
Although the class is lecture based, he makes it interesting by offering personal experience and throws in some jokes. Since he posts his powerpoints, in order to do well on the tests you need to take notes on what he says rather than what's on the slides. Tests are straightforward but require some studying of notes to do well. Overall great prof!
Dr. Carleton is not as good as these reviews make him out to be. Yes, he does know what he is talking about, but an A is not easily achievable in this class. There are many other bio professors with easier tests and better notes. Expect to put a lot of time into studying because the majority of the lectures are him talking about a single picture.
definitely an above average yet typical college professor. super intelligent guy who keeps it simple, but you still have to study hard to do well. the majority of my studying was devoted to the review sheets that the peer fellows gave out in their sessions.
Dr. Carleton's tests were inconsistent. They were either extremely easy or hard. I enjoyed his class and was happy with it up until the final, which he made unnecessarily difficult. After a semester of mostly fair exams, a final composed of all of his hardest questions from all the exams and then some was unfair. Take only if you can handle that
Dr. Carleton is a great professor! He is not an easy A but you will learn a lot about Biology in his class. He lectures most of the time but always gives the opportunity for questions and is available outside of class. I really admire him and will be taking him again for Bio 102.
My favorite professor at this school hands down. I've taken him all four semesters of bio and have gotten all A's. Take him if you can but all his classes fill up in a matter of seconds. Very straight forward and never tries to trick you. Very easy tests and the final is just as easy. Must take for sure.
Thought that this class was easy at first and then he decides to throw questions on exams that were barely mentioned. He said the final would be an overview of the material and then decided to throw the hardest, most specific questions on it. For the final exam, all the other classes were long gone and his students were still there long after
I've taken Carleton for 2 semesters, and he's a genuinely intelligent and caring man. The material for anatomy is difficult, but he tries to make his powerpoints clear. He sometimes throws curveball questions into his exams, but overall if you study off of the powerpoints you'll do fine.
I've taken Carleton for Biology and both semester of Anatomy and I wouldn't want any other professor. Grade is based on 4 tests and multiple online quizzes. His lectures are clear and the powerpoints have all of the needed information for the tests. I am rarely surprised by something on his tests
Dr. Carleton is such a nice man and cares about teaching anatomy so much. His tests aren't too bad and the information comes right from the powerpoints. His final brought my grade down because of how specific the questions were, but overall it's possible to keep a good grade. I would definitely recommend taking his class.
Carelton is a great professor. His lectures are pretty good and he's always good with giving examples that we would understand and explaining hard topics. Only thing is that he talks kind of quietly so it was a little hard to pay attention at times. Tests are straight from powerpoints.
Love him!!! Took him for two semesters straight. He is very understanding and caring. He goes into detail on things he wants you to know in lecture, but the powerpoints/ reading the book help me study for his tests. he does not want to trick or confuse anyone, tests are straightforward.
Carleton was a great professor. His tests are very straightforward, and you basically just have to go to lecture for the attendance aspect. I was take him again in a second. If you take notes on the slides during lecture, you will do great in his class.
Yes he reads off of the powerpoint and yes it's hard to listen to. I usually record the lectures and then don't listen the whole time. And later when I study I teach it to myself. Not that efficient but pro tip: find someone that you can read through the powerpoint notes with and make connections and ask questions. That's how you'll retain it all.
There are 4 tests throughout the year that are straight from the PowerPoints. He gives 5 homework quizzes which usually aren't hard either. His lectures are very thorough and interesting but sometimes his voice is a little quiet.
Professor Carleton is amazing. The class is lecture heavy but all of his slides are posted ahead of time, definitely copy the slides before class. He takes the time to make sure you understand the material and responds fairly quickly to emails. Five exams including the final, a few 10 question quizzes and discussion posts, one reflection.
Dr Carleton was an amazing professor! 5 tests including the final & hardly any homework (just a couple of short quizzes). Tests are straight from the PowerPoints. Lecture heavy but takes time to explain concepts in detail. Responds to emails almost immediately. He's willing to meet outside of class to review tests, which was very helpful. Take Him!
Professor Carleton is really nice but his lectures are so boring. He really does try his best but if you're like me and need to be engaged, I would take someone else. His tests are not too hard but sometimes really specific but taken straight from the powerpoints. Overall he's really nice, just a boring class since he lectures every time.
Dr. Carleton is a fair professor and a really nice guy. His tests are pretty specific. Make sure to study a week in advance. It's really helpful to rewatch the lectures as zoom recordings if you're online. The class is definitely hard but that's just because Anatomy is so much material.
Great choice. Study his PowerPoints in their entirety and you'll be fine. By entirety I mean you need to study everything, especially the less common names for things he provides because he will ask. The course is hard no matter who you take but Carleton is good at explaining and makes decent jokes occasionally.
Professor Carleton is the best professor. All exams are taken exactly from his powerpoints. If you study the powerpoints you will be fine. He is always willing to help and always understandable in his emails. Definitely take him.
Although Prof. Carleton's lectures may be a bit dry, he does clearly care about the subject matter and even tries to spice them up from time to time. The two very best aspects of his class is that he uploads all of the powerpoints in the beginning of the semester and all test material is on the powerpoints. A standout professor for BIO211!
Professor Carleton is a very nice man and he cares about his students. He uses PowerPoint in class and the tests are based on those power points. Take him if you can he is the best!
This was my second time taking him and he did not disappoint. I am signed up to have him for BIO212 also. Lectures are can be dry but he genuinely cares about teaching you the most important information. Textbook reading is not required because everything you need to know is on his PPT. Study the PPT's, do the homework and you will be just fine.
The absolute best professor I have ever had. Everything you need to know for exams is found on his PPTs and he never throws any curveballs at you. Make sure you know application for certain units and how to label diagrams. He might be dry but it doesn't matter because you will succeed in this course with minimal effort. Show up, do the work = pass
I love prof. Carleton. Such a nice guy and he really wants you to understand and learn the material. Anatomy is a lot of studying but his tests are right from his PowerPoint.
I had professor Carleton for BIO211 and BIO212 and loved him. His lectures can be kind of boring, but he really wants you to understand the material. The exams are very fair and are basically right from the PowerPoints. Definitely take him if you can!!
Such a sweet man, all his exams are fair and the information is straight from the powerpoint. You have to attend class, as attendance is taken everyday. Definitely recommend for anatomy.
The king himself. He's sweet and knowledgeable. I took him 2 semesters in a row. His powerpoints are helpful to study for his exams. Homework was connect and you had a long time to do them. Exams were straightforward. He does reviews after each exam. Lectures are boring cause they're lectures. Sign in attendance, do what you will with that info.
It's like what everyone said. He is a great teacher, and his exams are pretty easy if you pay attention in lectures and skim through the textbook. I always thought his class was easier than anatomy lab and required less work, which says something about the credit distribution for lab classes, so overall, it was a great experience.
I encourage literally anyone to take his class. He's so caring and so nice and genuinely knows what hes talking about. I love the structure of his class. You have lecture and online assignments going along with each chapter that aren't bad and are actually helpful and then an exam for the whole semester. He is seriously great. Take him!!!
Professor Carleton is very sweet. However, when it comes to tests make sure you read the textbook because he will throw in hypothetical situations. I thought the tests would be straight from the PowerPoints. They're lowkey not. I found I struggled on tests deeply because I would only study from the PowerPoints. Make sure you study from the textbook
One of the best professors i have taken at QU! He is caring and nice and his lectures are interesting. Exams are straight from the PowerPoint so as long as you study them you will do great. Love Carleton so much. please do not hesitate to take him!!!
Nice professor but lectures are difficult to grasp the dry information at 8 am. I found his exams to be mainly application, and his exams really aren't from the powerpoints. A&P is a notoriously hard course, but I believe this lecture was a lot harder than lab. Be prepared to study weeks in advance, & the final exam was not clear on what to study.
I chose to take Professor Carleton at 8 am bc of the amount of great reviews I read. However, his style of teaching was not for me as he pretty much j read off his ppt slides lecturing the whole time in the quietest voice. His exams were difficult & application based so u can't just study the slides, u have to truly understand the material.
He is a really nice guy, but isnt as easy as the reviews make him seem. His lectures are early in the morning and very dry, you often have to teach yourself the entire material before tests. However, he is always avaible to help students and truly cares about you doing well. Definitely a good professor, but dont expect to cruise through his course.
DO NOT TAKE CARLETON UNLESS U CAN CONFIDENTLY TEACH YOURSELF ALL THE MATERIAL!!!! he talks like a robot and its so hard to comprehend anything he is talking about. I felt like I taught myself this semester in his class.
Carleton is a really caring and easy going professor. He is a little monotone which can be hard in the morning, so you have to make an effort to pay attention. Tests are very straightforward, and he is never trying to trip you up. Taking again for 212.
Please ignore all negative reviews. Yes he can be hard to pay attention to for an 8am, but if you want a safe professor I highly recommend. His class definitely isn't a skip in the park, it's still an anatomy class at the end of the day. However, as long as you put effort into studying his slides well, you're golden. I'm taking him again for 212.
All the reviews make him out to have such an easy class. THAT IS NOT THE CASE. His exams progessivly got harder throughout the semester and his lectures are so hard to grasp. You have to teach yourself the material before the exam.
All of the positive reviews make this class seem like a breeze. That was not the case. The exams are worth 85% of the grade and homework are worth 15%. Exams get harder as the semester goes on. Many people scored in the 50s and 60s, making it hard to pass the class. Very nice guy, but does not help you prepare for exams at all. even harder at 8AM.
Lectures are hard to follow and he does not record lectures or do test reviews, so he really only goes through the material once. Tests are very hard and have lots of application questions, but application of material is not discussed in class. You really have to teach yourself everything in order to pass.10/10 don't recommend. Very nice guy though
Dr. Carleton is a really sweet man. He wants the best for all of his students. Most exam questions come straight from the lecture slides. Some are application based questions but he always discusses them in class so pay attention. I'm taking him again for 212 and would recommend him.
His exams are definitely not a walk in the park, very application based. But if you know the powerpoint like the back of your hand, then the questions shouldn't be hard to answer. I felt a lot of it was teaching myself the material because I had a hard time paying attention at 8am, but I didn't mind. If you want a safe professor, I highly recommend
Overall one of the best ANP professors, his tests are very fair and easy. Lectures arnt too bad just dont take the 8am if you can because you will fall asleep.
Carleton was great. Lectures were boring sometimes but, exams were based on powerpoints. Powerpoint slides were easy to read and understand. Anatomy is a tough class but, I think Carleton does a great job explaining the material.
Lots of people love him and I can understand because he is sweet but his style of teaching is not for me. I taught myself the material and office hours did not help with him. His exams are also more application based you have to know the material!!!
Very sweet and he cares about his students, however his teaching style is very mundane and the slideshows are long. There are also few outside assignments so the tests weigh a lot on your average.
Wasn't for me!
People rave about Carleton but he just was not for me. DO NOT take his class in the morning if you are not an early bird. His voice will put you right to sleep. Very boring lecturer and did not grasp my attention. He's a nice dude but he messes up grades and will fail you. He's very lenient on attendance though if you email him in advance.
Professor Carleton is easily one of the best anatomy professors at Quinnipiac. Tests should be straightforward as long as you study. He's also extremely understanding and always willing to help as best he could. Not a morning person myself, but I think his class was completely worth it.
Professor Carleton is a great anatomy professor. Anatomy is a tough class, but he is happy to help and answer questions. There are 4 tests throughout the semester and they are right from the powerpoint, so study those and take notes on what he says in class. His lectures can be slow/boring in the morning but I would still recommend taking him.
Great professor for anatomy which is a tough class. Notes are very clear and he has textbook assignments that are graded for completion. He brings in clinical experience as a veterinarian. I am taking him again for 212. For me I felt the exams got harder each time so really put in the time from the start. Calming voice but if you focus it's fine.
Anatomy is definitely a difficult class, but Carleton's exams were very straightforward. All the material is on the slideshows. Lectures can feel long, but he covers everything you need to know. Homework is only graded on completion so the exams are weighted pretty heavily. I'm taking him again for 212
Dr. Carleton is a wonderful person, but his class was difficult. Very lecture heavy and powerpoints can be boring at 8am. His exams were difficult and got worse as the semester went on.
Professor Carleton is one of the best professors I have had at Quinnipiac. He is a great lecturer and breaks topics down to make them more understandable. His exams are fair and everything on them is from his slides.
I took Dr Carleton for BIO211 and BIO212. He is so knowledgable about anatomy and truly wants you to do well. This course definitely requires a lot of studying in order to succeed, but his lectures and slideshows are really helpful. Exams are more application based so its important to actually understand the material and not just memorize it.
Prof. Carleton is a great professor, he answers all questions and is very knowledgeable. Graded on four tests, the final, and homework which is based on completion. Study A LOT for the tests because there is SO much content on them. Tests are application based but everything was talked about in class or is in the notes. TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!
The best professor I have had!! His lectures are engaging and he is very knowledgeable and kind. His exams are fair and only have content talked about in class. Highly recommend!
His lectures were very informative and straightforward, but the exams required you to really understand and be able to apply the material. I studied heavily for this class, but my final grade is a B so take that as you will. His early morning lectures can be a little boring, but he's a very nice guy and is always available outside of class.
absolutely wonderful guy. gives so much warning for tests and homework assignments. ngl, his lectures can get kind of monotonous, but they're full of great information. his test questions come right from his powerpoints so you only have to study those. super quick grader and very fair. definitely take him!!!
15% Hw, 85% Exams. The exams are literally his ppt's and what he speaks about in class. He is a fairly simple guy, show up, make flashcards, study 1-2 weeks in advance (mandatory if you want a decent grade.) Exams are very application based (except the final which was mostly concepts). I am taking him for BIO212 so take that as a good sign.
Dr. Carleton is the sweetest man on the planet. I found this class difficult because it involves a lot of memorization, but his exams are all based directly on the PowerPoint slides. There are participation-based McGraw Hill assignments every unit, they are long but helpful. You arent graded by much so you really need to study a lot to succeed.
He was a great professor! His lectures were very detailed and you could tell he knew a lot about what he was teaching. His exams are very specific and difficult and I found tutors and making my own practice exams very helpful. Overall I would take his class again!
