He is a great teacher. He is very clear and very interesting as well. Tests can be hard, but if you study you will do well. Collins also picks great books for you to read.

He is brilliant! He was the most amazing teacher I've had in years. Take any of his classes offered.
I normally don't like history but I actually enjoy this class because of the way he teaches it. I recommend not missing any classes cause you'll miss a lot of information. And make sure you know your stuff for the essays. Overall he's a great teacher.

This is a cool class. Dr. Collins makes sure to relate the material to current events, that keeps it interesting. Study for the essay questions!!!!
Take notes. Also reading the three assigned books helps. He is a great teacher. The class is fairly interesting and easy.
excellent teacher...teaches from his mind no need to get book unless you miss class.....a teacher worth having time and time again!!!!!!!
GREAT teacher. He makes everything interesting. Make sure you read the novels he assigns the quizes over them can be tricky
Dr. Collins is one of the best teachers I have ever had and he really made the class enjoyable. Best teacher at Meramec for sure!! Highly recommended!!
very easy going, excited about what he teaches
Good teacher. Most history teachers move slowly, he doesn't. Only basic history teacher I've had move past WWII.
An amazing class, I learned a great deal. Alot of diversity in this class. Next to nothing bookwork all lecture. Which I loved. Amazing professor.
Awesome teacher! Enthusiastic about subject. Great speaker modulates voice, talks fast, gives illustrations and examples. Very interesting. Don't buy book, or miss class. Take good notes and read novels assigned. Study for tests!
He is an amazing teacher. I enjoyed his class a lot. History isn't usually my interest but he made it very enjoyable. I looked forward to his class and would take another one of his classes.
Fairly Easy Professor. Pay attention in class and take notes. If you read the novels and study your notes/pay attention you will do fine on the exams.
Fantastic teacher, makes history interesting and really knows it well.Make sure you read the novels and the quizes will be easy. Study for the tests and come to class and you will be fine.Very nice and extremely interesting lectures!
Nice Teacher. Take him on summer semester. Two weeks, two novels, use voice recorder instead of taking notes and you are done.
Great teacher, interesting lectures and the tests were multiple guess with an essay. Fairly easy essay grader and as long as you show up and pay attention, it's not rocket science.
I took both US Hist in the 20th Century and Hist of Black America (great class!) with him. He's a great teacher, very thorough, answers questions. He is pretty relaxed about attendance, but its important that you go to class. The four exams are only over his lectures/somewhat hard (no text book) and he gives several book quizzes thru the semester.
I was dreading taking History again as I failed it the first time. I LOVE going to his class though. He knows his materials, makes it interesting, and even adds humor to it. No text books, just 3 book quizzes, and 4 lecture exams. The books he assigned are interesting, and as long as you go to class, the lecture exams should be fairly easy.
Best class I've taken. He's a great teacher.
Makes history fun! never once even almost fell asleep, he always kept my interest. No text book but two novels given to read in US in 20th century.(more like skim through got A on both book quizzes without reading the book)
He's a good professor; better than my previous history professor. He's nice and never put me to sleep. Just take notes, read the assigned books, listen, come to class and you'll pass.
Really enjoyed Dr. Collin's class. He makes the class interesting and easy.He also cares about the success of his students. Tests are easy if you attend all classes to take notes and read assigned books. I recieved an A in this class and wouldn't hesitate to take a another class of his.
I came into his summer semester 20th century class expecting to be bored but Collins made this class fun. Loves what he does. Just attend class, take notes, read the books and you'll pass this class easy. IMO, He's better than the other history instructors who make History boring.
Awesome teacher! Highly recommended. Clearly knows his stuff extremely well and loves what he does. Expected a dull history teacher -- he is not at all! Very entertaining. Just take notes and read the books and you'll have an easy A. I enjoyed him so much I signed up for another class he teaches just b/c I liked him so much!
The best history teacher I have ever had. Very clear and let's you know exactly what is on each test. Tests are medium difficulty but if you pay attention in class, you will do great. I would say he is one of the best teachers at STLCC.
I absolutely LOVED Dr. Collins class. He's very enthusiastic about the subject and always keeps it interesting. An A is easily attainable if you attend class and read the novels assigned. This was definitely one of my favorite classes at STLCC!
Its the best class iv attended in college so far. I look forward to these classes the same way i do the next episode of AMC's Dexter or The Walking Dead. He keeps the topics very interesting and holds a unique sense of humor and wit. He ends his lectures on a cliff hanger and im always wanting more. Hes very reasonable, knowledgeable, and funny.
Really nice and funny
Easy read books assigned no text the class is not difficult if you attend class and Collins is super nice class is interesting
Read books and attend class he makes history fun the dude is awesome if u do what your work listen and read your fine
he is an excellant history teacher. I recommend him for any history class.
I love Dr. Collins! I would recommend anyone/ everyone to take one of his classes. He's great!!
Awesome class and professor!
Dr. Collins is one of the best professors that I have had. I love the fact that he came from a 4 year university and kept the same curriculum. I love a challenge. He taught me so much and inspired me as well. I am now studying more background info on civil rights work. I am hungry for more...I would recommend his class to anyone..awesome experience
awesome guy. i had problems retaining information at a 4 year institution and with Dr. Collins, I was very interested in what he was saying and did very well. i didnt read 2 out of the 3 books and I still ended up with a B. If I had read the other 2 like i should have an A would have been cake. take this class and you wont regret it
He's a good teacher, really nice, and a bit too into sports. If you've always found history boring, this guy is your best bet to make it interesting. However, you will have to read three books that have nothing to do with the class, and, unfortunately, the overly thorough tests on them carry a lot of weight on your grade.
His classes are tough and heavy on reading, but he's a fair professor, and a delight in class. He's funny, engaged by the material, and always willing to answer questions. Honestly made me consider changing majors by making me care about the subjects. Insightful and entertaining, I highly recommend taking at least one of his classes.
Had him for History II and loved him. Very fun and engaging. Knows how to make history fun. Was dreading the class when I took it but came out of the class loving history. He makes you want to come to class.
To keep it short and sweet.. Collins is a really awesome teacher. He's very enthusiastic about what he's teaching which makes a difference in the way information is recieved in my opinion. His lectures are not hard to understand/grasp and he's also just a really fun, quirky guy. You should definately take one of his courses!
Very funny, and polite and kind. Looks to all my needs and helps me find ways to success.
Great teacher! Interesting lessons and very helpful. As long as you attend class you will do well. Reading the books is definitely helpful.
theres like no study materials.. 4 essay questions for big tests and that it then he will randomly pick an essay and thats just for the essay portion. for the multiple choice youre on your own! but hes an ok teacher not too shabby just wish thered be more study material.. oh and i recommend attending si sessions!
Dr. Collins is a great teacher. He grades the essays on his test very fairly as long as you know what you are talking about. I personally recommend speaking with his SI during the SI meeting because he has a great SI to put the topics into perspective. His book quizzes can be hard but read the book and do your best to caught the details.
Such a great professor! DO take his class! I didn't like history until I took it. He is so funny and makes the lecture into a story. Very knowledgable too.
only fell asleep in his class a couple of time. You should DEFINITELY read the books and take good noteS.
This class was awesome. Dr.Collins is such a chill dude! His lectures are funny and you actually learn! He is laid back and likes to joke around but you can tell he LOVES history. Just take notes and read the books he assigns and you will pass with flying colors. He makes the class really interesting. And he is hottie :)
Collins is a great professor! His class is lecture but he is very talented and his jokes help to keep you engaged. His class is easy if you attend and read the books, but if you miss a class, you miss A LOT and the notes aren't online. So go to his CLASS!
Dr. Collins keeps class interesting and makes students want to learn. He encourages participation and is always willing to answer questions. There is no textbook, which saves money, but it means you actually have to attend class and take good notes! But that's okay, because this class is an enjoyable one :)
I absolutely love this class. Dr. Collins is always willing to help! While there is no textbook, you should take good notes during class to review for the test. No worksheets you need to turn in either. Just 3 reading books which are very good! He's very entertaining and takes learning to a whole new level. Highly recommend this class! Take it!!!
Love Collins! His whole idea is to teach you the "bigger picture," which makes the details easier to comprehend and remember. I never thought I would enjoy a history class until this semester! He has a lot of funny jokes and interesting material to share with the class.
he's a cool teacher. Funny, interactive. Just read the books he assigns and study the essay papers he gives you and you will pass
He is a great teacher! I took a 4 week class over the summer and it went well. Knows exactly what he is talking about and makes it very clear about events that happened. He will answer any questions you have just read the books and take decent notes!!!!
Brilliant professor, he'll make you understand history and whats going out in the world today.Highly recommend taking his class. Must take good notes, read the books he assigns and you'll pass with an A!!
nice teacher
Very good teacher and made learning fun! Love this teacher an would recommend him as a history teacher.
GREAT TEACHER! Dr. Collins lectures the entire class so pay attention to everything he says and take notes on what you think is important. The book quizzes are easy as long as you read. Tests are hard though. They have two parts, a multiple choice and an essay. The essay must be 5 paragraphs long so you have to prepare in order to do well.
This class literally changed my life. Not many Professors have done that for me. He said the first week of class that it should be my favorite class, and he wasn't lying. I was compelled to learn and draw inspiration to improve my own life, and the education I've gained from that class makes me feel ahead of many others. He is a gem!
typical history class with a fun teacher
if you are willing to read 3 big books and get an exam on each one ( he picks the books that dont have audios, summaries or notes) plus 3 big exams on lecture notes. sont take him
I was a student in Dr. Collin's history class 7 years ago. I am now an RN (in graduate school) but I credit Dr. Collins for giving me an excellent baseline education on American history, government, and politics. Wish more profs were like him. I wanted to leave a review since I just started reading Moby D*ck and was reminded of his class.
Great lectures that never bored me. He has a no phone policy though.. and you will get called out if seen with it. All tests come with an essay, and are graded fairly. It was always hard to study for this class because there is no textbook and all tests were based off the lecture so it seemed merely impossible for me to get an A on tests.
His lecture are very interesting, and you have to take notes a lot in the class. His tests consists of multiple choice and 1 writing part. He gives the test writing questions beforehand, then he will randomly pick 1 of the 3 questions to put on the test.
I loved Professor Collins. I thought he was funny and well educated and he really knew how to gave a lecture. Hes more than willing to chat about current affairs outside of class which I really like. Read the book and ask questions in his class and youll do excellent.
Professor Collins is a really good teacher. His lectures are engaging and interesting. He also assigns 3 non-fiction (usually award winning) books that relate to the material. There are quizzes over them, so definitely read them. His tests have three or so possible essays, and if you prepare for all of them, you'll pass the whole test easily.
I really enjoyed his lectures. They were fascinating and very interactive. You have to show up for the lectures because nothing is online. Instead of having a textbook, we read 3 books and we were tested on them. He picks obscure books so don't expect to get summaries online. Take notes in lecture and read the books and you'll be fine.
Do not take this class if you are a bad test taker. He doesn't give you HW assignments, so the only grades you're stuck with are the tests. His lectures are confusing because he doesn't provide definitions; it feels like he's just rambling on. The only (+) I have for him is that he genuinely cares about how his students are in their personal life.
Most amazing teacher I've ever had. As long as you show up, take good notes, and read the assigned books, you'll pass with no problem.
This is obviously a class based on lectures from him from history so showing up to class everyday is needed in order to know whats going on for the tests. You will have reading but it's 3 books and that's your only homework you will ever have. As long as you study and read you will be good, he makes lectures interesting
Prof Collins is great at giving lectures! If you don't like history, you will likely enjoy it after his class. If you do like history, you will learn something new. He is really passionate about his subject so that is nice. You do have to read a few books for the class but the quizzes are not difficult if you actually read them.
Great professor, his lectures were amazing I never left class clueless I always learned and it was never boring. Pretty straight forward, just a basic lecture class. he gives a powerpoint to show the topic but no notes. you have to come to class or else you will miss the information. you have to read 3 books (great books). Great class great teacher
I never really liked history but Mr. Collins made it amazing. He is a great teacher! Really gives detail to what we are talking about. If you pay attention and take notes you will do great! I would take this again!
Grade is only from exams. Lectures are not super clear w/ presentations, instead he lectures like he is telling a story. There are 3 books that are read & tested on. So if you are not a good test taker, need explicit notes, or don't like reading, his class is not for you. He does really care about his students' personal lives which is hard to find.
Pay attention, take notes, read the books. Professor Collins is an amazing professor, but his class will take real work. His lectures are very involved, and he tests over all of the material covered. I said it already, but I'll say it again: read the books. I really enjoyed his class and would certainly take one of his classes again.
Not too bad honestly. Tests are easy. Only issue is having to read 3 novels. I personally have difficulty with reading so I found my way around it. But other than that hes super nice and chill
Hes awesome. The classes are fun. Everything he talks about is interesting and so are the books we read. They arent text books. And the classes are very entertaining! Sometimes I did wish we had more chill days.
Collins is probably the best professor I have ever had. His stories in class add much more detail to the lectures and it keeps everyone aware and active while listening. If you take the literal most minimal amount of notes in this class, you are going to do fine. If there are more classes offered by him, take them. He is an absolute gem.
While your grade is determined by 8 tests (5 module tests, 3 book tests), the class is very easy. No other homework besides reading a medium length book every month, and you will get an A on every test as long as you pay attention in class. He lectures like he is telling a story which is a lot more engaging IMO than reading off a set of slides.
I love history and this is by far the best history teacher I've had in my life. His lectures use a story-toned feel, very hard to be bored. Stays after class for questions, I have frequently talked with him about current events relating to our lecture and he is happy to answer. NO TEXTBOOK AND NO CUMULATIVE FINAL! Show up and you'll pass.
I loved this history class and history has always been a class I dreaded. The lectures were interesting and I enjoyed learning and was not bored/ distracted during class. If you show up you will pass! Also the 3 books you read in this class are great!! Even if you don't like reading you will like the books he picks. He's hip
I've never liked taking history classes my entire life so I was dreading this class. Dr. Collins is by far one of the best history professors out there. He makes his lectures interesting to watch and listen to. Just take notes for his lectures and you'll simply pass all the exams. There are 3 books to read but they are quite interesting too.
A great professor I had in my freshman year of college great person to know and answers any questions you have outside of class due to email he will get back to you really quickly with a answer to your questions very nice teacher to have for history would definitely take a class with him again 100 percent
Super cool guy, class was easy as can be. All tests are online and open note.
I LOVED Dr. Collins! I have always hated history until his class! He makes things so interesting and fun! The 50 minutes goes by so fast. I highly recommend his 1865-present day history class. Your only grades for his class are 4 lecture exams & 3 book tests. All of them are open note & you have the whole weekend to take them. Super easy class!
Loved how straight to the point he was. No curveball group projects or random essays out of nowhere, just 4 exams based off lecture material + 3 book tests. I also loved how engaging the lectures were. My only complaint is that the books didn't really correlate to the lectures much.
Loved this history class. Prof Collins isn't in favor of cumulative tests, and neither am I so the 4 tests we did were just about the material we covered since the pervious test, which worked well for me and a lot of other people. Tests are all open note. 3 book tests so just make sure you're reading all the books and you'll be fine. :)
Great professor overall. I wouldn't take the class if you struggle with taking notes or have a bad attention span. Lectures are not recorded or posted anywhere, so if you miss class be prepared to ask someone for notes. Otherwise, testing is easy & online. Read the 3 books though, the internet will barely help you.
Take good notes on the lectures and on the books he assigns, and you'll pass.
Dr. Collins is an absolutely amazing history instructor! He did an excellent job of bringing history to life in his lectures and making you feel immersed. He was also very effective in the communication during his lectures. Just take notes during lectures and read the assigned books and you have a relatively easy class with a wonderful instructor.
Dr. Collins made history come alive in his lectures, and I learned so much from his class. Your grade is based on 4 lecture tests and 3 book tests (all open note/book). Lectures are packed with information, so make sure to show up to class! He tells a lot of jokes and has great analogies to make events make sense, too.
Entire class is just lectures, however they are fun to listen to, and are sometimes accompanied by videos. Attendance is very important, and he reminds you often that if you miss/skip class, you won't pass the tests. When I took the class he gave extra points for never missing a class, but he will deduct some if you miss more than a certain amount.
I really liked taking professor Collins's history class, and was sad when I had to drop out. I realized that it would be difficult for me because I don't take very good notes, but I highly recommend you take one of Collins's classes, you wont regret it!
Professor Collins was nice but unfortunately his class just was not interesting. In addition, he only grades off a few things and offers no extra credit. His lectures and boring and he gets off track and it is very hard to follow. I wanted an A in this class but I don't see that happening. All tests are open note and no final is given.
Lectures can be very interesting. Have to take notes and pay attention to do well on exams. Attendance is also important to understanding the material. Grade is based on book exams and module exams. Overall, great professor.
Professor Collins is a great professor who makes learning about history fun. The biggest key to passing his class is attending, even missing a couple of lectures could put you behind. I highly recommend his class.
Awesome history professor. Lectures felt like he was telling a story and he always slipped in some interesting information. The class is graded by 4 take-home lecture tests and 3 take-home book tests. Go to class, take notes, and read the assigned books and you'll be good to go. He also adds 3% to your final grade if you have perfect attendance.
He's so funny and his lectures are absolutely amazing. Super easy, just take good notes. He's kinda strict with attendance so don't mess around with that, but you get extra cred for perfect attendance. You read a lot outside of class but no other HW. 10/10 professor
I love history, but you don't have to, to like this class. Collins is amazing at lectures, which I didn't think was possible. I never feel sleepy when listening. Please just take good notes as he talks, read over them before the exam, and you will do fine. Extra credit for coming to class consistently. A professor with a great personality.
I loved Professor Collin's History 102 course. I love history and I think he did a great job teaching in the course and he was easy going on tests/quizzes. When I took the course there wasn't a textbook for the course but there were several books that were assigned to read over the semester. I didn't enjoy reading them and the tests were over them.
Professor Collins was a great teacher when taking my HST 102 class. The whole class is lectures so be ready to take notes because the lecture is what will be on the test. He requires you to read three historical novels which there will be tests on too. All tests are online. Would recommend, it's an easy A.
Dr. Collins was a great professor. He was very funny and you could tell that he really knew his stuff. Sometimes the class moved a little slow but the information was always needed and interesting.
You have to read about three books a semester. Don't skip classes, because he doesn't post notes on canvas. His tests are super easy and his lectures are hilarious. 10/10 professor
Amazing lectures. Everything he talks about is very interesting to listen to and easy to understand. As long as you attend class and take notes and read the assigned books it is an easy A or B, everything talked about in class is on the lecture exams. Best history teacher ive had so far.
Prolly the best teacher at Meramec, absolute goat. Taken 2 of his classes and never regretted going to a class please take him.
Amazing professor. The class structure is very simple and grades are determined by 4 unit tests and 3 books tests. Tests are not difficult as long as you take notes during lecture or just read the books. If you are doing the work, it's hard to fail.
Great teacher! As long as you read the books and study your notes you should pass the class. Tests are ste
Professor Collins is an engaging lecturer. Attend class, take notes, and read the assigned books - you'll do well. Unstuck AI is a helpful study tool too. Overall, a great history course.
Collins was an amazing Professor but be prepared to read as you are only graded on 3 book tests and 4-unit tests. If that's your preferred learning style he'd be a great teacher for you. Notes are also not posted so if you miss a day you will need to speak with a classmate. Show up and do the readings- you'll pass for sure.
He is literally the best history teacher I've ever had - if you have any questions about American history during any time period, he's got the answer! I learned something new and interesting every single class and he got me interested in learning even more about history outside of school. He's easy to talk to and a super great person overall.
i would take again.
Professor Collins is always so helpful, he's very happy to fill you in on any missed lectures, and is clearly passionate about the source material he teaches.
Professor Collins is passionate about what he teaches and knows the subject well. He explains concepts thoroughly and provides help if needed. There are book/lecture exams. He also cracks jokes here and there, which makes the class more engaging. Just take notes, read, and show up to class to earn extra credit.
Great guy, engaging and very well done lectures. Tests are straight from the lectures and straight forward but you do have to pay attention and take notes. Three book tests as well that are easy if you read the books. All books are pretty good and not too hard of a read.
Great professor, really liked how he lectured, he maintains interest by telling it like a story. Participation is essential because everything on the tests is only discussed in class. Very nice as well.
The best teacher I have ever had. He makes lectures interesting.
