If you like strict structure and guidelines, this is not the class for you. It is very "self-learning oriented". Mr. Davis is very smart, and cares about his students individually.
Mr. Davis is such a cool, funny, and nice guy! This class is pretty different from 101 and he teaches very open-ended with little direction. You can pretty much do whatever you like in terms of your work and he will tell you to fix it or not. Easy A!
Great teacher, really cares about helping you out when you need it and guiding you in the right directions for projects. There is a normal amount of assignments, but is an easy grader. To fail this class you must be trying to.
One of my favorite profs at UA. He uses a labor-based grading contract, meaning that if you turn everything in on time and put in some effort, you get a 100. I finished the class with a 99. You can write about what you want for assignments, he has great feedback, and I feel like I grew a lot as a writer!! Very caring and passionate prof!
Professor Davis is the best professor I've had in college. He's super caring, funny, and is very responsive to emails. His teaching style is very different from others and as long as you put in the time for the assignments, you will pass.
The environment created by this professor is open-minded, encouraging, and well educated. He can help you as much as you ask for, just spend the time and do the assignments.
He is super chill, if you gotta take an English class take it with him!!! He is so reasonable with the grades, literally just put ur best effort--he grades on effort.
All around great class structure. Steven Davis is super understanding and makes class fun with his added memes throughout lectures. Best class experience I've had with a college professor!
I took Professor Davis's english 101A class freshman year first semester and thankful that he had an English 102 class second semester. He is an easy going person and his grading criteria is very clear. Very self-oriented class. You will really enjoy his class!
I really enjoyed this class. The readings and assignments were not heavy. It was a very self-paced course which I personally enjoyed. I was so grateful for the extensions we could request for 24hrs in advance. Overall, I learned a lot from this course and I would want to take it again!
I loved this class it was ez. Also loved the teacher made school fun
This professor was very engaging with his courses and very clear on what he wanted for his assignments and projects. His work was very self-paced and you are able to ask for an extension of 24 hours in advance. Highly recommend this class! :)
100% recommend this class. Teacher is understand and gives extensions on every assignment if asked 24 hours in advance. Teacher does a Labor Based Learning, meaning if you put enough hours into the assignment, it is ok to turn work in even if it is not done.
Dr. Davis is awesome! I loved his class. He keeps things interesting and I learned a lot about myself through this class. Don't be discouraged by the amount of homework, if you plan your time it is not that bad.
Professor Davis was not only an amazing teacher but he cared about his students and helped out any students that needed it. His grading is very clear and offers extensions if you need it. He inspired me to write good essays and I would 100% take this class again!
Mr. Davis is a very nice professor with an unusual grading philosophy.
Mr. Davis was very professional and went out of his way to provide good feedback on every assignment. The course was labor based instead of traditional "finish the assignment" and get a grade. It just means that you spend the allotted time on the assignments and turn it in whether you finish or not. Be prepared to keep a planner to help you out.
This class was so easy and so much fun! Professor Davis was so understanding and gave you extensions on any assignment as long as you asked for it in advance. This class was very easy to get an A in as long as you went to class and completed the assignments on time. Although attendance isn't mandatory he will give you extra credit for going.
I've had Professor Davis for both of my English courses and I am so glad I did. He is such an amazing professor! Very understanding and workload can be light. Throughout this semester, I had a tough time, but he is very understanding and would give me extensions. Highly recommend him for English 101 and 102!!
He was an amazing teacher who grades by the amount of time you put into the class and the quality of the work. Always has very clear instructions and directions. Although there were many assignments I know that I actually learned a lot of valuable information in this class. He is very helpful and supportive.
Professor Davis is an amazing teacher. I had him for both English classes and I am very happy I did. Attendance is not essentially mandatory, but he does give extra credit points for each day you show up. Grading rubric is quite clear as well. He grades based on the time spent on the assignment and he provides how much time is expected.
Mr. Davis was a great and easy going teacher. He was willing to work with you if you needed extra time on an assignment and provided a lot of good feedback. He followed a time related learning and work style, which ultimately think I got a lot out of and very straightforward with directions on each assignment along with what he expected.
This class is very easy only you can make it hard stay on top of your work and you wont have any problems. Steven is understanding just dont take advantage of that.
The class was easy to get an A in, with extra credit points for attendance (no penalty for absence). Not very hard assignments. However, the professor was very passive aggressive and disrespectful, especially via emails and announcements to the whole class. However, grading was fair (all assignments pass/fail). Used labor-based grading contract.
I really enjoyed this class! Professor Davis was really understanding and provided interesting lectures and assignments throughout the semester. Definitely would recommend this class to others :)
Nice guy but not a great class. Claimed was labor based but that is not the case, but was pass fail assignments. Easy A but you need to put in hours of work, with too much homework. Was passive aggressive when talking to class and would contradict himself. Also didn't use D2L. Overall he's a nice guy, but this class isn't worth it.
Professor Davis is one of the best most influential teachers I have ever had. Having his class for english 101 made me decide that I want him for english 102 and even though for me this semester was rough due to outside factors he stuck with me and made sure I was doing well and got my assignments turned in before any deadlines.
Steven Davis is a great professor. He grades on how much work and effort you put into your assignments. Whether or not you get something incorrect, it is mainly based upon if he can tell that you actually put effort and an adequate amount of time into the assignment. Do not take this lightly, he can really tell.
Excellent and fun instructor. Very fair and gave more than enough opportunities to score the highest on assignments. Love the fact that I was given assignments based on things I can use for the future (i.e. resume, 5-year career plan, website portfolio, etc. )
Used Google Classroom. Very kind/funny, gives great feedback on assignments. You have to be self-disciplined with time management, but you can usually get away with saying you worked on his assignments on the allotted time and he'll allow it. Attendance is used as bonus points for the end of the semester. One of the best profs I've had so far.
Attendance is extra credit. He is a very chill professor and is willing to help his students.
Steven was a great professor. I really liked his way of teaching. Attendance is extra credit, but he really encourages you to show up. He's really chill and you basically grade your own work while he only grades the final.
Mr. Davis is one of the best teachers I have ever had. If I could take one of his courses every semester I would.
Mr.Davis is super generous at grading and I feel that Mr. Davis is also a super good teacher. He has a lot of experience in other ways besides teaching and his spirituality adds a new dimension to English. Overall I think that he is a great teacher and worth taking for English 101.
Dr. Steven's level is pretty understandable by his rating 5.0. I enthusiastically recommend to take his course! He is so caring and understanding. Gives perfect lectures and homework is manageable if you keep on track. If you really want the concept of the course, he is the best professor to take. I personally enjoyed and loved the course!
He will work with you if you ask. Manage your time wisely
It was a very fun class, and I would definitely take it again. Be ready to have homework twice a week.
The grade you get in this class is all on you, You show up and do your best effort on the homework then you'll get a good grade and be successful in this class.
This class was very easy, as long as you do the work. There's a new assignment everyday and as long as you do it, you should be fine in the class. Also make sure it looks like you put time into your work rather than rushing it as the last minute.
Dr. Davis is a great Professor. He goes out of his way for us. He understands we have a life outside of class and he completely understands if we have a family emergency. He also gives great feedback and always answers our questions. I would so want him as my professor again.
This was a great class. You definitely need to put in effort, but Professor Davis is super understanding and will help you work towards the grade you want. Attendance isn't mandatory, either. It actually counts for extra credit! He also tries to make class fun and relevant, which is really nice. Definitely recommend his class.
Easy class but a lot of work.
Mr. Davis was one of my favorite instructors this semester. You grade yourself on everything but the final portfolio. He is very understanding and is willing to work with you if issues arise. You do have to put in the work for a good grade but with this class it is easy to do :)
This class was pretty easy and organized but don't fall behind in the work in the beginning.
Your grade reflects your effort. Attendance is extra credit, not mandatory, but still worth going. You can choose not to do the assignments but don't expect to have a nice grade. If you absolutely NEED outside pressure to finish assignments, take a different class. If you want to learn or have good time management, this class is for you.
Self paced, would recommend attending the classes because it will guarantee a higher grade and helps keep you on pace with the assignments. Overall great class and glad I got to take Eng 102 with this teacher. :)
The only thing Ill say about this class is attend the class, it will help you get a good grade and will help you keep up with the pace of the class. Overall great class and it was a pleasure to have this class. :)
The professor is very well educated & is willing to help in any way. You will definitely do some real learning. That being said, be ready to get to work as this is not really a class that you can just cheat your way through.
Steven is a professor who values and encourages self-motivation and, in a way, makes it the highlight of the class. In the classroom, there is a lot of group work and peer review. The way he sets up the course allows you to research and pursue what you want and feel is important.
This is a focused class about schooling. Really good teacher and almost every class has small group discussions. Assigns a lot of homework though, expects 6 hours of homework outside of class.
Professor Davis is great at adapting this course into a positive and sociable environment in class. Assignments are not very difficult if you plan accordingly for the allotted time to complete them. Attendance is not mandatory, but helps a lot to complete assignments and learn from them.
Mr. Davis is great!! He will push you to become the best you can be through self-assessment and accountability. Attendance is not mandatory but highly encouraged and important. There is a lot of work but all of it is significant to the final portfolio in the end.
He made this class very easy, he had every assignment outlined and gave examples for the more difficult assignments. He allows most things to be turned in late and he lets you know how to fix the assignment. There is a little bit of work at the beginning of the semester but it slows down.
Prof Davis is a really cool guy and what we learned was actually engaging and interesting. Class is optional, but it definitely does not hurt to go and you can give yourself a higher self-assessment at the end of the module if you go to class and do the assignments. If you struggle with motivating yourself, then you may not like his class.
Good guy with an interesting format to the class. Grades hard but gives us the cognac etc grade ourselves.
I highly recommend taking Dr. Davis for English. His grading is very easy, his course objectives are clear, and his class is fun. Dr. Davis is very caring and you can tell he wants all of his students to succeed.
Professor Davis gives engaging lectures and class time is always interesting and worthwhile. Most of the homework is ungraded and most of your grade is from self reflections and the final portfolio. The work is not hard, but it is important to stay on top of it. If you get too far behind it becomes challenging.
Professor Davis was a great teacher. He was always willing to give you feedback and really help you understand material. Overall the class was easy but there was quite a bit of work.
Mr. Davis is so nice! He is always willing to listen and cares about his students a lot. I would recommend him to everyone!
Mr. Davis is the best! You can tell he really cares about his students and what they learn. His assignments are easy and always have the same due dates. With two assignments a week I would say I spent maybe 4 hours per week completing assignments for this class.
Absolute chiller. Low key a decent amount of hw but it's light. Only way you can do poorly in this class is if you literally never go to class and do no hw. If you are a half decent student and do your work, this class is an absolute cake of an A. His lectures are also pretty lit. This guy is the definition of for the people. Thx Davis ur the kid.
Great professor. He always gives feedback on assignments. There are assignments due about twice a week, and you are in charge of almost half your grade. If you are NOT self-motivated, are a big procrastinator, or need strict instructors for you to do your work, then this class is not a good fit. There are also no quizzes or exams!
This teacher cares for his students and strives to create a new atmosphere where students can better learn and grow. Class is not mandatory but going is extra credit which is a bonus. No homework is needed to turn in but they are recommended by the professor. As long as you put in the time, you'll probably get a good grade.
He's a great professor and only gives about two ungraded homework assignments a week, and you pretty much choose your own class grade as long as you can defend it.
Professor Davis is one of the most caring and realistic professors I have ever met. Attendance is not mandatory, it is counted as extra credit but I would highly recommend going to the majority of his classes because they aren't boring and will help your grade. 40% of your grade you give to yourself by filling out self-reflections after each unit.
I had Dr. Davis for both 101&102. I know it's easy to disregard this class due to its unique grading system and being a Gen-Ed. Please don't. If you put effort into his classes, it won't be wasted. You have the opportunity to dig deep and learn beyond the SLOs- take it. His classes helped me grow, mature, and see the world through a different lens.
W man overall id take his class again, I am very comfortable in his class.
This class was very relaxed and lenient, would definitely take again!
Created a welcoming environment, for students to come to every class. He welcomed us every day with the same attitude, and strive towards success. I highly recommend him as a teacher. I loved this class, it was by far my favorite this year.
This professor is very passionate when it comes to English. I found his way of describing lectures and teaching to be very captivating. He is also a very good-spirited person. Overall, I had an absolute blast with this professor while learning.
Lectures were always very informational professor clearly cares about the subject and his students
He is very easy to work with, and assignments are very easy to complete. The professor works with you on deadlines and is always available to help you. Optional group work while in class, very self paced learning.
Professor Davis himself is a great professor that shows care for his students and shows that he wants them to succeed. The class is mostly self graded, so if you are able to back up your grade, you will likely succeed in the class. The only downside of this course is that there is normally 2-4 hours of work after each lecture.
Attendance wasn't mandatory, but every class you did attend you received .2 extra credit points. It may not seem like a lot, but it really adds up. If you put in the work, this class is easy. Because he is so lax, this course requires decent self discipline and a willingness to do work just for yourself. Take this class!
By far one of my favorite professors! He was super intentional from the jump and always made time for us to get ahead and talk to him about any questions or comments we had. He offered great insight on homework assignments, and had great communication skills and would let us know right away if something came up and the lecture would be online.
He is super nice and easy going at the beginning of the semester. But when it comes to assignments from the second essay and on to the end of the semester he is super tough on your work and he says that you didn't do a certain part of the assignment even though you did what he said was missing. Very rude and disrespectful in feedback comments.
Professor Davis is an amazing teacher. He treats his students like actual people and cares about them deeply. He is very chill while teaching and makes the lectures easy to follow. He does use google classroom (which I actually prefer) and everything is well organized.
Mr. Davis may have a different style of grading that takes getting used to, but I got way more out of his class than I thought I would. He gives extra credit for each class you do attend instead of penalizing for not attending. He is very understanding of life circumstances and is great at giving feedback and teaching different ways of writing.
I would say he is an amazing professor. A lot of people on here are saying he's bad at giving advice or things like that but he's good. We have homework on Mondays, Wednesdays, and & Fridays but it does not take too much of your time honestly. He's also funny. Overall, a pretty good teacher.
He's a good professor and I learned a lot from this class. Even though I learned a lot, there is quite a bit of homework for sure. The way he grades is interesting but very good. You'll find out how when you join the class. I promise it's worth it. He gives really good advice when it comes to work too, which is so helpful now and in the future!
As long as you come to class you should pass
Do the work and you will get an A
Not a bad professor at all, but the work can be very time consuming. However, you do grade yourself so if you don't do a few assignments you should be fine. A few people told me that his feedback towards them was negative, but I never had a problem myself. As long as you read the assignment directions thoroughly, you should do well in this class.
Expect to spend at least 6 hours outside of class for assignments. They're not hard, just time consuming. Doing them prior will make later contents easier, so try not to procrastinate. Taught me a lot of time management and what to prioritising. No points off late work, but I still encourage them to be done. Online textbook, no need to pay.
Amazing professor, doses not grade any assignments until the final portfolio. If you can hold yourself accountable for doing your work and showing up to class, guaranteed A. Get ready to have loads of homework.
My situation is unique as I went from in person to online with the class being assigned incomplete. They are no longer teaching, but through their time here, the participation and effort.. along with self evaluation was worth more than doing things "entirely" correct. 102 was definitely slightly harder than 101 with him.
