Super nice guy and very smart but terrible at teaching. His lectures are very boring and he teaches using proofs that are impossible to understand. He does not communicate with his TA so lecture and recitation/lab are like two separate classes. He seems intimidated by large number of students in lecture. Takes attendance. Tests are only 5-6 Q's.
very nice guy. lectures all class with out stopping for questions. awful at answering questions. Five question exams, all free response. Lots of homework. No quizzes so grade comes from exams.
Mr. Derochers was one of the worst profs I have ever had. Went way faster than other M122 classes. Also unlike the other classes, his class didn't have an SI session. Didn't post grades on blackboard or give back tests until end of semester after we contacted dean of math as a class. basically no one knew if they were failing or not. DO NOT TAKE!!
Super nice & intelligent, however, not a great teacher. Homework (25%) will save your grade, but test(45%) are only 5-6 questions all open ended and are graded hard(most of the other MATH122 have 20+ questions & multiple choice.) The final(30%) is cumulative and 8 questions. Not great with answering specific questions or putting in grades. NO SI!
I took Calc in high school so this class was extremely easy for me. The final replaces your worst test grade, if it is better, so that hopefully helped most people's grades. A lot of people complained about his teaching style and a lot of classmates struggled with him. Its his first year though so that might be why
Steven is a great teacher if you come to class and take good notes. The tests are just problems from class with different numbers. WileyPlus is pretty easy and helps boost your grade. If you put in a good amount of effort, there is no reason that you won't do well in this class.
Derochers was a good professor for math 122. he was lecture heavy but always stopped and asked if people had questioms but would continue if no one spoke up. So if you do have questions speak up! Tests were fairly easy, he gives credit with work shown. tests are just like the warmups he gives in class
He never put any of our grades in blackboard until our class complained about it. After final grades were posted, the final exam and homework wasnt in blackboard. So basically you have no idea if you are failing or not. He doesnt tell us when SI session are and doesnt acknowledge them. Do not take!
Derochers seemed lost throughout the semester in how he wanted to organize his class. My only advice is to practice practice practice and the second you get lost find help or you will fail. Without understanding things from day 1, you will fail the exam. This class in itself is hard and a lot of work, but not impossible!!!
Do not take his class if you can help it. He's a nice guy but he's terrible at teaching. There's homework due every Saturday and WileyPLUS isn't the best website. He does give partial credit for work shown on tests.
He is a nice guy and clearly knows what he is talking about however he can not explain it well to his students. The homeworks are 10x harder than tests and class notes. His notes also are word for word the textbook so if you are confused in class and go home and go over the textbook, it doesn't help at all.
Makes you work for the grade. Endless amounts of Wiley plus homework. Not a bad guy, just not good at explaining the concepts. I had never taken calculus before this class and I struggled. I went to the SI sessions outside of class and thats what helped the most. he curved most of the tests and drops the lowest one, gives some extra credit.
Weekly homework and it can sometimes be a lot but its not that horrible. Unless your amazing at math I do not recommend skipping, the material is kinda hard. He cares a lot about his students and gives as much partial credit on tests as possible. Warns you at least a class before, if theres a test. Office hours really help. Extra credit is rare.
ID RATHER EAT A PINECONE THAN TAKE HIS CLASS..
Really not that bad as long as you do all the Wiley homework and take notes in class. Questions on tests are really similar to warm up and example problems he does in class and hes good about giving partial credit where he can. Gave a couple small extra credit opportunities on Wiley
I have never had a better professor in my life. I had to retake math and I finally got a grip when I entered his class. Yes his hw is rough but if you pay attention in lectures you will understand Calc.
Dr. Derochers is a very nice guy. His lectures were pretty heavy and he may not be the best at explaining things, however his test were just like the warm up problems and in class examples. He gives lots of partial credit with shown work. I would recommend visiting him during office hours, if he sees that your actually trying he will be fair to you
Professor Derochers is a very nice guy, but not the best Calc teacher. He goes very quickly through the material and explains everything in extremely complicated ways. He doesn't even give you a chance to understand the actual problems before he moves onto the next chapter. Also, the homework always has questions that were never covered in class.
Although the topic isn't that interesting, he makes the class not that bad. He is very open to outside help and works well during office hours, which I utilized frequently. In class, he runs through the topics fairly quickly but will slow if asked. Wiley is the most abominable homework portal I have ever had the unfortunate circumstance of using.
I think Steven is a great teacher. It's a really hard subject but he takes you through every step and does lots of examples. He really wants to make sure you understand the material. Do the homework and take notes and you'll be fine
If you have taken calculus before, this is a good review class. Otherwise, it's pretty challenging. He goes very fast and the examples he uses in class do not match up with topics covered in the homework sometimes. Wiley was our source for homework, so if you don't like that then I dont' recommend. Symbolab and Chegg are almost a necessity.
Derochers is the best calc professor I've ever had. He's so caring, & asks "is that okay with everyone" after every few minutes of lecture to make sure people are understanding everything. He gives partial credit and scales every test so it's really not hard to do well. Theres a lot of homework but its doable, & the tests are way easier than the hw
Professor Derochers is the best math professor I've ever had!! Calc II is pretty abstract math and if you're good at regular calc it's still pretty hard. He really does want you succeed in this class and does the best with the material he has to teach. If you care about your grade, you can achieve a good grade. Highly recommend if it's required.
TAKE HIM! Professor Derochers is easily the best math teacher Ive ever had. Math 142 is still full of hard concept but he presents them in a way that makes them far less confusing. He also offers some extra credit if you want to work for it. Cant recommend his class enough.
Good professor. He goes into a lot of detail on easy topics. Class is boring but an easy A if you do the online homework.
hard pass, I didn't put the most effort possible but this guy won't meet you halfway. Also impossible to stay awake during his lectures. Not easy if you didn't take calc in high school.
Derochers knows a lot about the subject he is teaching, and explains it in his lectures in a way that makes them easy to understand. If you copy and study exactly what he writes on the board, you'll likely do great.
Nice guy and a good instructor. HW can be a lot sometimes but its good practice for the exams. Definitely take him if you can.
A lot of the reviews are very subjective. Derochers has the most office hours then all the other professors. He frequently stops to ask for questions. He has a PhD in mathematics and due to the amount of material need to cover, he flies through chapters. His notes are good. The homework sucks. If you are looking for an easy class, go elsewhere.
Kinda goofy but demonstrates a clear understanding of the topic and truly cares about his work and the students.
The class itself was hard, but that's just calculus. Steven is a good choice for prof, he goes out of his way to make sure everyone has an opportunity to get more help or ask questions. His lectures are kinda boring, but you have to go if you want to pass. Tests and quizzes depend on how well you know the material. Lots of homework.
This guy is super good. He is very nice and explains things very well. There is a lot of material for this class but that is true no matter the instructor. If you don't understand just ask and he is always willing to help. He also provides a lot of online resources to help if needed.
Calc 2 is very hard on its on but this class wont help you out. Dr. Derochers is a very very tough grader and will find every little thing wrong in your scratch work. Just getting the right answer wont get you anywhere. It takes him 2-3 weeks to grade papers and refuses to upload grades to blackboard. Your final grade will be a surprise.
Very boring class and super slow grader.
Tests make up most of the grade. Weekly homeworks take a while. Hes a good guy and good at teaching
The whole class is a lecture. You are not prepared for tests by the classwork and homework, so I would only take him if you absolutely love and breathe calculus, otherwise, this might not be the prof for you.
lectures are super boring and the concepts are so hard. he speeds through most of the material so if you not strong in math do not take his class.
Mr Derochers is very nice, he is specific in what he expects work-wise, and he is pretty straightforward. The issue with this course comes from the lectures being extremely dry and the homework being a real pain to do. However, as long as you pay enough attention to what he's looking for, you should do fine.
Dr. Derochers was very helpful and flexible during office hours. He uses every second of class time and you will speed through the material, but as long as you copy down what he is writing, you will have good notes. There is a good chunk of homework, but it is done with MyMathLab and not very difficult. Without him I probably would not have passed.
Dr. Derochers Is the best math teacher I have ever had. He goes above and beyond to make sure everyone understands the topics. He shows tons of passion for math and teaching in general. Super reasonable and accessible outside of class. Calc is super hard but he makes it bearable. If you like math jokes he's the professor for you.
He really cares about his students & whether or not we understand his lectures. I took calc in high school so it might've been easier for me but even if you're having a hard time he is there/wants to help. The homework is pretty long so start it a few days early. He is understanding of students registered w the SDRC and extends deadlines if needed.
Professor Derochers is a very nice person, but he really speeds through all the lectures so you don't really know what's going on the entire time. He also doesn't provide any sort of extra problems for review which is not helpful. His exams are super super hard, even if you try to relearn the material on your own.
A really great professor! He assigns a good bit of homework due weekly but it is not bad if you do not procrastinate! Really nice guy.
Does a really good job of trying to make sure that anyone voices any questions that they have as well as trying to get people to engage. He moves through material really quick which can be a struggle, but he's easy to talk to and can help clarify a lot of things.
Derochers is super nice and always tries to make sure everyone understands the material. Its a tough class but he does well teaching it. He can be a tough grader but he also makes sure to give good feedback. The online homework assignments can be time consuming but they help a lot. Overall a really great professor!
Currently doing 100 homework problems due the week of the final exam. He assigns a prodigious amount of homework just because he can. Calculus isn't super hard but he makes the classes insufferable. Incredibly hard to follow along with what he's saying. He's nice, at least.
I struggled a lot throughout this class. Derochers way of teaching isn't the best for me, but I've heard others are worse so I'll 100% rather have him as my professor again. There is a lot of homework to do majority of the time, and it rarely makes sense. The textbook doesn't help either.
I love Dr. Derochers by far one of the best professors and am now taking him for Calc 2 with no regrets. Realistic about homework/quizzes/exams. Curves on exams, open note quizzes and endless atmp homework till you get a 100. With that being said he'll definitely make you work for a good grade but his main goal is making sure students are learning.
Dr. Derochers is a very good professor. His class is difficult but I would rather have him than any other professor. He curves exams! Hes super funny and quirky. I enjoy his class even though its hard, boring calculus lectures. Had him for calc 1 & 2. Didnt get the best grades but I managed to get the pre-req score both times.
the class itself is hard but the exams were always curved and you had all day to do the quizzes so they were easy to do good on, if you did better on the final it replaces your lowest exam grade
Derochers is Great! Goes over everything in solid detail, and even reviews Calc I and II concepts in class when they are relevant to the current material. Can't miss a single lecture tho, you will fall behind. The class is challenging he's helpful if you reach out. Also, study hard for the first exam, It'll be harder than you think.
Derochers is a great professor! There are no surprises on Exams- everything is straight from examples done in class. The homework is a lot harder than the quizzes and exams, so don't be stressed if you don't understand it. He is really easy to reach. He is not the most efficient with time but he really cares about students and will be helpful.
He will sometimes go through a whole section of math without ever doing a single practice problem. He will write paragraphs on paragraphs on the board but only describing the theory with words.
Dr. Derochers is a great professor. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed, however he has trouble gauging difficulty when writing exams. He does make up for this by giving a curve on every exam students do poorly on, and he gives a little extra credit. This class is VERY hard and very exam weighted though.
Derochers was a good professor. He always started the class asking if we learned something new and he definitely cares about his students. The only downside is he tends to skip over things if no one speaks up and his homework's are really friggin' hard. I definitely recommend him, but don't be afraid to talk if you do not understand something.
If you took Calculus, odds are you took it with Derochers at least once. His lectures are very down-to-earth and easily understandable, even in Vector Calc. Homework is a lot, but not nearly as bad as quizzes and exams. He always asks us if we've learned anything new or interesting every class period, which was always a delight!
Derochers does an amazing job at breaking down everything (including the theory and why he does things) and making it understandable through tangible examples. One of the best teachers I've had. Calculus II is a difficult course, but he makes the content digestible and provides all the materials you need to be successful. Study and you'll pass!
He is the best Calc teacher that I have ever had. He makes the lectures very easy to follow along the content. The homework is very unrelated to anything in the class and is difficult but done online. Wish he would do more practice problems in class rather then proofs or things we wont need. Also, doesn't post notes so go to class or make friends.
Prof Derochers is a very quirky guy and will keep you entertained in his class. I slacked off in the beginning and it was very hard to catch up in the end, so I highly recommend going to SI and review sessions to help you understand the material better. Homework takes a bit, but he gives you an entire week to do them with it being due on Tuesdays.
His lectures were amazing and he was usually helpful, nice, and knowledgeable. Tests and quizzes were difficult but followed the outlines exactly and all the material was taught in the lectures. Homework every week but it is usually quick and straightforward. If you take 241, especially as a prerequisite, take him!
Derochers is a great guy but if you're taking him for math 115 good luck charlie. I was great at math before but literally my entire class did so poorly in his class lol
I have Derochers for Math115 and maybe it is because it's his first time teaching the course, but Jesus this was one of the worst classes I have ever taken. Everyone in my class is either failing or bordering on failing and all of the test shave had an average grade below a 60. Not a bad guy but not a good professor for Math115
Hes a nice guy but his lectures are boring and the way he explains concepts makes them hard to learn. He doesnt put any notes on blackboard so if you miss a class you miss the notes which makes it hard to catch up or review. His tests are hard and he offers no tips on what could be on the exam. Its just everything that you learned from the last.
Hes a really nice guy and he tries to make jokes in class. But his study sessions do not help at all with the exams and he grades very picky on tests. His lectures are boring and he goes pretty fast. He does curve the exams though but thats because the class average is always below a 60. Overall though hes a nice person.
Nice guy. Extremely picky grader. Doesnt help you with what will be on test. Class test average is ALWAYS below a 60. Boring lectures. Get ready to teach yourself math. Takes random attendance checks at end of year even though he said attendance was optional.
I was terrified for calc but he made it easy. Broke down the theories in to understandable concepts. There was a lot of homework, so be prepared to have good time management. Tests tended to be based off warm-up questions and examples in class, so take good notes. I would take again for Calc 2, great guy and great teacher
Professor Derochers is a nice guy who explains topics well. Lectures were pretty boring, but he makes sure everyone understands all the material before moving on, which helped students grasp concepts easier. The tests are very difficult, and there is lots of homework, but he curves the tests, so do your work, and you should get at least a B.
He went really fast. He would only round tests up to a C when the class average on every test was a low D. Not very flexible and won't take time to answer in full. He also does not take his notes in full, he will combine steps. Makes it difficult to go through your notes because if you take the time to write down those extra steps you fall behind.
Although Dr. Derochers is pretty nice, he is a terrible professor. The homework and quizzes are nothing like the exams and the test reviews are quite useless. He did curve the exams, but that's because the average wasn't above a 65% all semester. There's a lot of homework, but its not too bad (it just doesn't reflect what you're doing in class)
I loved Dr. Derochers. He does tons of examples during lectures that match what he puts on the exams. He is also very good at answering any of your questions during class. He is a hard grader on tests and cares a lot about notation.
Dr. Derochers is great. I would highly recommend him for Calc 1! Lectures are easy to follow and he genuinely cares about his students. There is lots of homework but its manageable if you stay on top of it.
Derochers is a lovely math professor who is good at explaining anything you may be stuck on, he cares for his students and will always be willing to help.
STAY AWAY IF POSSIBLE! Exams are only 5 questions! if you miss one problem say bye to A+
Derochers is a great professor! He writes out every single step no matter how small on the board to every problem which I appreciate. If you don't understand something, simply speak up and he is more than happy to help. As someone who has struggled with math their entire life, Derochers has made it very easy for me to learn and actually enjoy math.
AVOID!!!! This professor is terrible. Be ready to be suffocated in homework and quizzes that have nothing to do with what is on the exam. The class average for exams have been below 50%, and he will blame you for it. If you are confused, he will do nothing to help. He is a nice guy, but when it comes to teaching math, he is awful.
Do not take if you can avoid!! He just writes a bunch of stuff on the board and has no direction. He will write multiple paragraphs sometimes. Also no calculators allowed on tests. Worst math teacher I've ever had. Nothing wrong about the guy himself, just has no idea how to teach. Class average on exam below a 50% and like always it's OUR fault.
Teaching style makes it simply unsustainable to pay attention. Will write paragraphs on the board and is incredibly slow paced. Nice guy outside of teaching but lacks any idea of how to properly teach this course. No notes posted online as everything is done on a whiteboard, so there is no chance to review material if you missed something.
Terrible instructional style, everything is done on a whiteboard as well, so there is no chance to get notes if you were to miss something in class. There is a reason the exam averages are about a 50 every time
Excellent Vector instructor, made it very clear what would be expected on exams, prepared you with exam review sessions outside of class time, homework tended to be a bit much but not the worst I've had. Very charismatic and caring instructor. Class examples and quizzes will more than prepare you for exams.
Plain and simple bad at teaching this course. His slow teaching style was torturous, and his exams were much tougher than anything given to practice on. No online notes either. Made what should be a foundational course feel like rocket science for no reason.
Where to begin with this professor. For starters, he does not enter grades into Blackboard. He claims to have labs and exams graded, but when asked about our missing grades, he dismisses the subject. Beyond that hiccup, He also fails to provide work that is aligned with the difficulty of his exams. He is a good person, but not a great teacher.
He is a nice guy, but a god awful teacher. He will just write out paragraphs of whatever comes to his mind on the board. There is no direction in this style of teaching and its difficult to understand. Averaged 30-60 mins of homework every night. Class averages on the 3 tests were: 57%, 71%, 52%. No curves were applied.
Derochers really cares about his students, but the homework can be a lot/take a while, and when there is an exam it's due on Saturday. His exams aren't bad as long as you take good notes and go to or watch his review sessions. He also does not post his notes, so make a friend in there if you're going to miss class.
I think he was a good teacher, he explained everything well, and offered other ways to think about the material if we didn't understand the first way
He wasn't a terrible professor, just really boring. He never puts any grades into blackboard. Doesn't really use blackboard at all really. Attendance is mandatory but he passes around a sheet for you to sign to say you were there so it's easy to sign it then leave - he won't say anything.
Good: Gives extra credit, curves tests, final replaces lowest exam Genuinely cares about students Bad: Takes way too long to return tests Homework doesn't reflect the test material Very disorganized and tends to get lost in the theorhetical Vector calc is a wringer either way, but most of the students just need it for a prereq.
Professor Derochers was very smart and understood the material he was teaching, but was scatterbrained and repetitive. His tests never matched the homework and they were a large part of the grade. Overall, he was a nice guy, just not a valuable teacher.
Very nice person but agonizingly slow professor. Would spend multiple classes in a row just reviewing instead of covering any new material and had to drop a whole chapter because of it (could be a pro if you hate math). Take only if you need MATH241 as a prereq and won't actualy need the info for future classes; he won't cover a fair amount of it.
This class is fairly easy if you put effort into it. Most classes covers new material and there is very little classwork. Pay attention to warm-up questions which are very similar to the questions seen on exams. Derochers is a very approachable guy who really knows his stuff and is willing to help you. Just practice outside of class a bit.
Great teacher, he gives a lot of notes. Like a lot. He does example problems in class that heavily reflect the exam questions. If you pay attention in class you will do great on exam. It can be boring if nobody is active in class. Homework is brief but do not let it catch up on you. He tells you about pop quizzes before hand as well.
I personally did not enjoy him as a professor as he teaches in a way that is so different than I was used to in high school and having to show up four days a week mandatorily Monday through Thursday. However, I feel if you are naturally good at math you will do fine with him because the material itself was not very difficult.
75% percent of your grade is based on three exams and a final. The exams are not bad, but he doesn't prepare you. You can never miss class because he has nothing online. He would post the exam practice/review the evening before the exam. Very rude when it comes to grading and would take out points if you put your answer in a way he doesn't like.
His notes are clear, and his exams are exact copies of his notes - super easy. He was always super willing to help and goes slow through the content, which helped me. My biggest problem is the homework subscription service he used, I'd waste hours on problems then go to his office hours and be told "oh it's okay dw about it."
If I can get Derochers for the rest of my math classes in college I absolutely will. He has great lectures, the homework is a bit tough, but that's because it is Pearson, which is hard to use in general for all subjects. I would suggest if you are going to take a Calculus course, take the one with Derochers.
This is the second class I have taken with him, and I hope to take more in the future. The homework can be a bit much, and different from what we learn in class but you can redo it multiple times. The exams are short and we did a lot of similar examples in class so it is easy to prepare for them. Definitely take him!
I personally think the professor is extremely nice and funny however his teaching style i dislike a lot, no study guides are given before exams in order to study and grading on tests is extremely critical and lot of points taken away for little mistakes. only has 10 grades total, super easy to fail even though you understand the material.
I genuinely do not know why he has such a high rating on here. I have always been a student that was good at math but this class is awful. He grades so hard and even if you understand the material, he will take off tons of points on the exams for notation. Id seriously try to stay away if possible unless you want to live eat and breathe math.
Honestly good teacher overall. His lectures are long and he explains everything in detail so it's pretty understandable. The tests are copies of the warm-up problems, so if you just practice the types of problems in class, you can get an A. The homework takes a LONG TIME, but it's possible to get a 100 if you put in the work.
Good professor. 1-2 quizzes before each exam that are open notes and helpful for getting feedback. Does review sessions and is good at explaining concepts. Lots of homework on Pearson that doesn't always seem exactly like what we do in class but is somewhat helpful. Final exam grade can count for worst exam grade. Nice and cares, I recommend.
Awful professor. Dont ever take him. He doesn't explain things and very very tough grader. Even if you do your best you wont get an A.
He is a very smart professor, however he moves incredibly fast and you need to self teach.
I took this class in highschool and received an A, and this year i barely past. he teaches concepts in a hard to learn way. he moves really fast. He is a very nice person, however if you struggle with math i would not take him.
He does not upload any lecture class content online so if you miss a class it is going to hurt you a lot. I would not take the class again because he goes kinda fast on some subjects and there are not many grades in class to bring you grade up. Also there is SO MUCH HOMEWORK half of the time the homework gives questions on things we didn't learn.
I personally enjoyed his class. There are three exams, and a final. Lots of homework through My Math Lab but if you keep up with it, it's really not bad. takes attendance every class. Warm up questions and examples in class are very similar to exam questions, normally you can kind of tell what is going to be on the exams.
He moves really fast and does not put grades into blackboard. Exams are graded harshly and only consist of 5 questions.
attendance isn't mandatory, you won't pass if you don't attend. He uses Pearson for math homework, but you're given an entire week to do 4-5 assignments. He seems like a guy that just really enjoys math + understands it very well. He will answer any questions you have very clearly and will do extra examples if the class doesn't understand.
nice guy. lots of work. i took this class in hs and got an a and now i am BARELY passing. his tests are extremely hard and he teaches very fast and the way he teaches is very hard to follow.
hes super sweet and is really good at math, but he goes so fast and just expects people to understand the way he understands. The final is 20% of your grade and you have Pearson homework every week. its harder then it should be.
He clearly understands what he's doing but that doesn't mean the people he's teaching do. Whenever you ask a question he's condescending and doesn't reexplain it well. I was in an honors section and I think he thought we just didn't need help because we were honors. He also grades super harsh and doesn't explain it on the test once its graded.
SO MUCH homework that sometimes doesn't cover what we did in class. Lots of lecturing and will write paragraphs on the board that confused me more. Took this class in high school and easily passed with an A+ but this was really difficult just based on his teaching.
He is an ok professor for such a hard course. Gives three tests but the final can replace the lowest test score. The homework does not really help with the tests so you need to redo problems he gives in class to study. He also writes on a chalkboard so if you miss class you need to get notes from your classmates. Takes attendance every class.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. He teaches in a roundabout way that overcomplicates the content for the sake of being "fun" or "interesting". The homework is not helpful at all, much of the lecture time was wasted on things he later revealed we didn't need to know for exams, and he is a very tough grader compared to other teachers.
He is very knowledgeable, however I didn't like how the homework was not relatable to the test material, therefore was not very helpful. I do love he provides test reviews and record them so you are able to watch even if you cannot attend. This is a really hard course with not of information and he is good at answering a questions you have.
I loved his teaching style. Tests were hard, but if you attend the lectures and take the time to study, you'll be fine.
4 on the AP Calc exam so I was placed into this course because of requirements (honors/major). He just rambles about his random math passions and explains theories in the most confusing ways with few examples. Roughest grader I've encountered with zero curve or extra credit. So much material and he isn't very helpful during office hours.
I took Dr. Derochers for 115 and 141. He made my least favorite subject bearable, and even enjoyable. I was very sad to not be able to take him for 142.
Professor Derochers' class takes some getting used to, but with regular attendance and practice using resources like Unstuck ai, you can do well. His teaching style is unique, but he cares about student learning.
He is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. His lectures are engaging and simple. I feel like I have a deeper understanding of the subject every time I leave his class. He is a tough but fair grader and is very concerned with the success of his students.
He writes all material on a white board in class and does not post notes so you have to show up to class. If you go to his office hours he is more than willing to help you understand the material and is very kind. The homework does not match the tests and there a lot of it. He curved low scoring tests.
Not a hard class but he is just incredibly vague and seems to not want to help you pass. Lecture notes are often incredibly lengthy showing he truly cares about content and reason but you're then left with tons of notes to go through which often are never touched on during an exam. If you want to learn rather than fantasize take someone else.
Dr. Derochers is the best math teacher I've had at this university. He writes a lot on the whiteboard, so it's easy to follow along with instruction and examples. Homework (unlimited attempts) is a lot harder than tests, but tests are simple and very similar to quizzes. Really cares about students. I highly recommend him for honors MATH 242.
Go to class and take good notes. he assignes a lot of hw but it helps to learn the subject well. His exams aren't that hard if you study and he is a very nice grader giving a lot of extra credit for showing work. He gives the exams back which is very helpful for studying for the final.
he's honestly a good teacher and actually takes the time to help you, but the class requires you to pay attention to each and every part because if you miss something it will snowball. Also I failed 2 exams and failed the class but I probably could've tried harder
His teaching style is so weird, he over explains almost everything. He will tell you about a quiz a few days before. Exams are usually 5 "chunky questions", however he does give partial credit & curves test grades. I don't think that the homework prepares you for the exams, but you can take the homework multiple times to get a better grade.
attendance not graded but extremely important if u want to do well. notes are not posted or saved outside of class. a handful of easy group labs throughout the semester, 3 big exams which are tough, our class average was 60%ish for the majority of them. class will go much smoother if you speak up and seek help if you need it. teacher is a good guy
He's a very understanding guy, pushing back test dates as needed for students because he wanted to make sure we knew all the material we needed to. Very approachable and he does one out-of-class session before each exam that sums up what is on each test really well. He knows his stuff really well. I'd gladly have him again.
