i dont like his style of teaching. he needs to engage the class more in the subject matter because his class is really boring. however he is very fair on testing material because they come straight from the book or lecture example.

Hard to follow, but that's mainly because you have to concentrate on writting fast in order to keep up with him. However, if you read over the notes afterward you'll find that his lectures are very clear. Tests come directly from the book and his examples

Wow what a great chem prof. well compared to Mack he is like a god. His test aren't too difficult but still need to study. He actually teaches and wants students to do well.

he is honestly the best general chem porfessor at ucd. his lectures are clear and his finals/midterms are really similar to his practice finals/midterms. you don't even have to read the book as long as you have a copy of the lecture notes!

Farmer is a pretty good teacher. His tests are fairly straight forward, a lot like his practice tests. Curves are pretty fair. Material isnt too hard, just go to class. If you come to class, he sometimes gives questions from the midterm or final on friday

He is by far the most incredible teacher I have ever encountered in the Chemistry department. He is very clear with his materials and midterms are very similar to the practice tests. As long as you study the materials from class, u should have no problem!

Tests reflected what was covered in class. He sometimes gave out questions that would word for word be on the midterms. Lectures a little boring but chem 2 series is boring in general. Take this professor, better than the other options for sure

i had farmer for 2a and 2b a year ago. i dont even like chem but this guy is the man. Not easy tests, but very fair and rewards those who come to class by giving out a question. Best teacher ive had at UCD and im a 3rd year.

Dude, his tests are straight off his notes! seriously just memorize the mechanisms in the notes and youre golden. I went from getting a 57% on my tests in nasiri (118A) to getting 92% on his tests..Easiest O-chem class ever..

He is so awesome! My friends and I HATED ochem...until Farmer came along to boil everything down for us. I wish more profs would explain ochem in such a practical, straightforward manner as he does. Good lectures, presentations (overheads, nmr handouts) are so convenient for students to learn in an organized way.

really nice guy... he's young so he can relate to the students... tells jokes and is easy to understand. uses the projector so you have to go to each class, but they're all worth it!

He is an extremely good teacher. He moves at a pace that allows you to actually learn the material so that you can remember it past the final exam. He is straight forward and tests only on information he actually covered in class. You can't go wrong with this guy.

Best chem prof ever! Have to go to class since he doesn't post notes online but it's worth it. His lectures were so easy to follow and understand, and he condenses the material so it doesn't seem overwhelming. Tests are only on lecture material. I really learned a lot from him.

Best prof. I've had in the Chem 2 series. Too bad it was only for 3 weeks. Excellent lectures(especially considering that he is an O. Chemist teaching Kinetics and Nuclear Chem.), relates well to students, his material on the final was straight-forward and very similar to the practice problems and problems done in class. I hope I get him for OChem!

Dr Farmer is AWSOME!! Try to get him if you can. You have to go to lecture because he doesn't post his notes online, but he uses an overhead and actually gives you time to copy stuff down. He does helpfull examples, and explains confusing stuff really well.

Class was so amazingly EASY!!! He is straightforward and as long as you put in the effort, you'll get a good grade. Tells you exactly what you need to know and even brings in everyday examples of the stuff we're studying. If you get a chance, ask him about the "frozen addicts"...that story scared us all!!!

Bomb. He knows his stuff. He doesn't test you on anything he doesn't go over in class. He has helpfull information and sometimes purposeley goes off on tangents. He's funny and actually makes you want to go to chem (weird huh). Yeah hes cool.

He's very clear, humorous, and can relate to us students. I never yawn in his lectures which is a good thing. His lectures are helpful and his examples are relevent. I highly recommend him!

This guys helped me out so much. He brought my letter grade one whole letter just because of his lectures. Energetic for the course and he really teaches as if he wants us to learn. Overall, one of the best chem teachers I have experienced here in Davis.

Very very straightforward tests taken straight from class notes. Cool guy, very energetic and not boring. The only downside is the curve isn't too great at the end of the course because everyone does pretty well due to the easiness of tests, usually my D's in chem go to B+.. but here.. my B- went to a B+.. very.. dissapointed.. great class though

@#$%^&* awesome teacher!! one of the best, if not the best, professors in UCD. he can ACTUALLY teach and his exams ACTUALLY test what you've learned from the class. lectures are better than the book, and he tells stories to make the class more interesting. i wish some UCD profs were more like him.

Yes. Study the notes religiously. Don't recommend the book at all it is a waste of time (for him at least). Just memorize those mechanisms!

Your notes is your Bible to get an A in his class. You don't have to read the book or anything, just go to the lecture and memorize the notes. He is the best chemistry professor ever. His tests were easy and he was nice. We often got out early. Do go to classes on Fridays!! He does curve, but often it's not necessary because the mean was too high.

If you see his name while registering, take his class. He is the most generous, helpful prof...really remembers what it is like to be in college. Refreshing. His test reflect the practice exams and the notes (challenging) and he has a very generous curve. I got C's in Chem 2a & 2b ...and an A in his class. Says something about the chem dept.

That's sad that everyone gave a "NOT" to his hotness. He's the best teacher ever. He actually made me a lot love o-chem more. He let us out early all the time too. And his way of keeping us to come to class on friday evening is to give bonus q's. Whata smart prof!

Took him during session 1. He's very straight forward and tries to make the class apply to daily life. His tests are straight from his notes. He believes that it's unfair for profs to make students read a book and know everything in it. So make sure you go to lecture. He also gives trivia in class that end up on the exams. It's a reward for going to class. Easy class, but everyone does well so you gotta do even better.

He was a dick, and made it clear that he wasn't going to let anyone pass without busting their asses. First thing he said first day of class was "Look to your right and left. One of you is going to fail this class." However, that said, he was a VERY good lecturer, grader, and helpful. Just don't try to half-ass his class.

Great Great Great Chemistry professor! Because of him, Chem. was my favorite class this quarter. He doesn't have a monotone voice, so I didn't fall asleep. Clear voice. Notes are projected overhead (very organized). Homework is optional. His Midterm samples are very similar to the real ones.

GREAT professor! He makes all the complicated topics very easy to understand and really cares about the students. It is not an easy class, though, you still have to work hard. During office hours he will show card tricks and be happy to answer any questions you have. Thanks Dr. Farmer!

Great teacher! His lectures are clear and he tries to keep his lectures interesting. As long as you go to his lectures and take notes, you'll never need to look at the textbook again. His midterms are all based on his lecture, so go to class! Midterms are relatively easy, almost exactly like the practice midterms he posts online.

Very clear and helpful. His lectures are very important. Whatever is on the lectures can be on the test, anything else not covered in lecture will not be on the test. Teaches you what you need to know to do well in the class. Very helpful when reviewing for midterms and finals. Only teacher I know who gives practice midterms/finals to prepare.

i actually think this guy oversimplifies things. he teaches well, but the stuff he teaches is way too easy sometimes. sure its an easy A, but you might come out feeling somewhat unsatisfied because the content of the course is somewhat lacking.

He tests only on what he lectures. He doesn't even recommend reading the book. This doesn't mean you don't learn anything though. Take his classes if you can.

farmer rocks my pink heart print socks. the absolute best general chem professor you will EVER have. his tests are extremely fair. you really get what you deserve on his tests because unlike many other professors, he isn't trying to trick you. i recommend him wholeheartedly ... if only he taught o-chem.

A decent teacher. I think he could have done a little better explaining the material. His tests are pretty straight-forward except on the exams he like to throw in a curve ball question or two, should be no problem if you have a thorough knowledge of the subject.

Very straightforward professor, made it so I didn't have to try and decipher the horrible textbook. Really works to prepare students for tests, which I thought were very reasonable (and a fairly easy). Only catch is you have to go to all lectures because he isn't exactly teaching out of the book. made a serious effort to make class interesting.

Dr. Farmer is fantastic. His practice midterms are VERY similar to the actual exam. He only tests on material he covers in his lectures, and he sympathizes with us college students. I'm just sad he's leaving us next year.

Dr. Farmer is the best general chem professor at Davis. He works hard to explain the material in a way that everyone can understand. Almost all his students agree that he is the best. He is also down to earth and is open to questions. The only problem is he is leaving next semester. He is like by many and will certainly be missed.

Farmer is a GREAT professor. He's fun and interesting, fair, and is a great lecturer. His tests only contain the info he presents in lecture, meaning NO TEXTBOOK. Too bad he won't be teaching next quarter. :(

Hie thee to lecture! All test questions come straight from lecture - not the book. He has a bit of an ego and tends to go on a bit about what he's done and his interests. Some are interesting, others are not. Study early for the tests - they're identical in format to the practice exams, but there are a lot of nitpicky details.

What a class. Farmer told some of the wildest stories I've ever heard. Who would think O-chem could be interesting. He has me reading the ingredient on everything I eat. The exams were fair and he tests only on what he covers in class. Take him!

Great professor! He takes breaks in between lectures and gives "Friday Bonuses" which are guarenteed test questions. He's very straightforward and for the tests you just have to go through your notes and know everything about them.

Great instructor. Lectures are to the point and well organized. Exams definitely aren't easy but if you are going to lecturem, nothing on the exams comes as a suprize. Friday bonuses ROCK! Lectures were actually enjoyable.

Farmer is an excellent, fun, and clear lecturer and attempts to make chemistry as applicable to the real world as possible. The book and syllabus suggested problems are not helpful. The practice exams are helpful but not sufficient to do well. The course is almost 100% memorization based and exams are taken 100% from in-class notes.

Great prof. had him for both A and B series. Go to Lecture not just because that is only what his tests cover, but also because he's a funny and interesting guy and provides connections between chemistry and 'the outside world'. Hope he still teaches O-chem

O-Chem is tough and requires memorizing, but he makes it as painless as possible. Loved his style of lecturing (no powerpoint!) so it forced me to go to class and pay attention. Tests were straight-forward, didn't try to trick us or anything. Gave in class practice tests before every exam that was helpful as well. Overall great eacher!

Dr. Farmer is one of the most helpful professors I've had. Organic chemistry is not an easy class, but he is very fair with his tests and grading. He's very willing to help you if you're having trouble too. Go to his office hours; he'll show you a magic trick and offer you snacks! :)
