His lectures for Russia After Communism were awesome. I loved how he communicated the facts, but also sprinkled it with his own experiences in Russia and his thoughts on the current political climate. It made everything feel more real and relevant. So much respect for this man. Random story: He always leaves around 15-20 mins of class time for questions. One time, a student with severe speech impediment asked a question, which got looks from all the other students as it was almost impossible to understand what the kid was saying. Fish answered the student's question without skipping a beat.

Fish is obviously at the top of his field and highly respected within the social sciences. However, many of his lectures in PS2 were not particularly nuanced and had nothing to do with the course at large. Exams were all based on the reading (100-150 pages a week with weekly reading quizzes). His lectures never shed much new perspective on events.

Professor Fish's lectures were good at the beginning but tended to get rambly and boring towards the end of the semester. PS2, in other words, Russia, China, & a dash of the Middle East and Africa, as taught by John Stamos' twin.
