Nice guy, very helpful.
Great teacher, very concerned for the students performance.
Great guy, tests are hard like a mother! - really nice PHAT curve at the end.
A young one. Fun in class. Hard tests. Believes in the 3 read method of study. Funny thing is, it works.
Very clear. You always go home early. A good study guide for the final.
good teacher, funny life and examples, project was a pain good curve.
Cool teacher. 2 midterms, 1 final, 4 papers, and a nice fat curve. He tells you what each question is going to be on for the Final.
Easy-going and cool. Class always ends about 15 minutes early. Tests are rather hard unless you like to read a lot to study for the tests. But tests are curved. Lectures are rather boring and are straight from the book.
Writing assignments are easy. Test are kinda tough, but the curve makes up for it. If you read the book, you're set.
His lectures are easy to follow. tests are hard because he words the questions in a weird way. assignments and group projects are easy. i dont think he uses a curve.
Very cool teacher. Super nice and approachable. I would recommend him to anyone.
this teacher is easy. his tests are not hard. just read the book and study definitions. i got an A, but i read the book. make sure you go to the reviews. he is a great teacher and very kind.
Pretty easy class, just read the book and you'll do ok. Have to write some case studies, but it's easy. If you want an A, that is absolutely possible but takes some extra work.
Francis obviously loves his wife, Martina. He talks a lot about her as an example. Great teacher and very understanding. I give him an A
Professor Francis is an approachable guy and talks TO the students, not down to the students. Reasonable grader and a decent textbook. Class is packed with students, so everyone must like him. :)
He's a good teacher. Its easy to get an A you just have to read the textbook. Only a few easy HW Assignments from the textbook. He Curves too!
Top notch stuff. Tests are mostly out of the text. Lectures are usually empty, no roll is taken. Good guy, cares about students, unlike most at this school. Has a chopper, another bonus.
Young and Cute prof.
He curves, but wish no one is smart in your class out of 130 students or the curve is soo messed up. Like in my class theres one **** who gets an A+ on test, ruined curve for all. Take him though, very caring...n understanding
His lectures are easy to follow. tests are are curved. assignments and group projects are easy and you have the whole semester to work on it. Take his class!
Cool young guy teacher that relates well with the students since he was a former SJSU student himself. Good curve and you can even get 3 extra points on your exam if you justify 3 of your wrong answers. Very approachable and all around nice guy. Actually gets you interested in the material.

Great teacher! You can learn and have good laughs in his class. He explains complex problems in a very easy and fun way.
Easy A, nice teacher. Let u go early sometimes.
He is a really nice guy, organized, helpful, funny, and cute!! You will need to write about 3-4 small papers, maybe a group presentation(optional). Be sure you go to class and take notes. It is a very interesting class afterall.
Great teacher! Brings a real-world experience to the classroom! I highly recommend him. Understands that students have busy lives and need time for other things besides homework for his class.
Francis is definitely top 5, best teachers i have had in my college career so far. He already has a business and teaches solely for fun. He's very knowledgable and grades very fairly. Challenging tests, but not too hard. Take this teacher, he might actually teach you something.
class was all rite.long, boring lectures-lots of notes.no homework but 3 papers.midterms multiple choice-easy if u study.final is comprehensive =/.wouldnt mind taking again.
He rules! u need to take him if u want an easy teacher who teaches u all the important things. he truly knows what he;s talking about as he runs his own successful business. very nice guy. turn in papers late and curve midterms.
Great teacher, cool guy. Tests are somewhat difficult. Be prepared to read a lot!!!
Took him for 160 and 187. He is a great professor, he is a lot of fun and I also think he is hot. I wish he taught other courses.
Awesome teacher. Took him for BUS 187. Lectures were always interesting, and relevant to what was on the tests. As long as you take notes and do the cases you will be fine. Awesome teacher, awesome guy. Highly recommended.
one of the best teachers at SJSU; clear spoken, excellent real world examples, funny, easily approachable. 3 papers aren't too bad, tests can be tough so study the book and the models he draws on the board. His classes are early but well worth it. highly recommended.
good teacher. Former SJSU student, so he relates with students pretty well. Knows his stuff. Comprehendable lectures. Ask questions if you don't understand someting. He is easy going, and easy to approach. Take good notes (he explains stuff very well) and know the terms in the book that he asks you about. Class worth taking.
I admire the guy for being upbeat at 7:30 A.M. He enjoys teaching and knows what he is talking about. In this class, you would need to do 3 position papers and 3 M/C exams (2 midterms and a final). Attending lecture and reading the textbook should be enough. If you need help, he is very approachable. Also, be aware that he curves the class.
His exams are a little hard and detailed, but he curves so a majority of the class will pass. Grades essays really easily and free participation points. Go to his lectures because some of his questions are not from the text. He tells you what's on his final.
He is so sweet, nice, and so cute. Lectures are very clear and interesting.
One of the best lecturers I have ever had! His lectures are easy to understand and he practically gave us every single question on his exam! Two required essays and one extra credit essay. He is just testing out this method though so I don't know if it'll be the same next semester.
He is an excellent professor for this class, but his exams are HARD!! No matter how he tries to be "straight forward", there are always 1/4 of class failing his exams. Most questions from his lectures so you must attend class everyday. It's not good to work with a partner since he grades the entire class on a curve!Loved him til I got final grad
His lectures are easy, but you REALLY need to read for this class to actually understand his lectures. His exams are mostly from the lectures, but reading the chapters he assigns makes the exams much easier. Curves and is pretty fair, but exams are difficult. 3-4 papers.
Very helpful teacher. Tests are based on both the book readings and his lectures. However, most test materia comes from lectures. GO TO CLASS! Awesome method of teaching.
He is best lecturer at SJSU!! a cool guy. two exams, one final and one group projects(case study). have to read a book and take a good note from lecture. his tests are not bad, but some of questions are really tricky.... just follow carefully his reviews for each exams!
His lectures r ok. It can get very boring! Write good notes cuz ur gonna need it 4 da exam. He's helpful n very nice. 2 exams n 1 final. He does give the questions dat r gonna be on the exam. 50+ for da midterm n 80+ for da final. da DOWNFALL 2 dis class is a group case study. 50-60pages per group! It took up a lot of my time.
Excellent verbal skills. Class is entertaining to say the least. I found that I did well on the test when I read the chapters. My notes were only helpful when figuring out which text to study. I suggest going to class and reading the text.
Great guy! Come to class take good notes and READ THE BOOK. you will get an A if you read the book but if you are the kind of student who doesn't then you won't do well. Also make sure you pick a good group for your project or you'll be hating life. Overall I give an A+ to Francis :-)
Great lectures!!! I took him for two classes, got A in both. As long as you go to class, you don't need to read the book to get an A. Not a hard class and VERY interesting. Highly recommended.
Very caring professor...everything that he expects is clearly stated. Very flexible and understanding...goes by the book exactly. Learned A LOT more then i did from the OTHER professor who teaches this class! Tells u EXACTLY what will be on exam!
Not a bad guy but way of grading is off. final worth 40% of grade got A's on everything the 1st 16 weeks of class then took final and didnt do well..didnt fail but didnt do well ended up with a C in the class. not C+ or B- dropped two who grades down. so dont show up to class just do well on final...
This teacher is pretty easy going during class, but when it comes time for the exams....VERY difficult. Grading sucks...2 exams, final and project. Be prepared to do a major case study in his class 60 pages and only worth 10% of your grade. Its A LOT of work and time! He is NEVER available to help you during office hours. I wouldnt take him again.
i highly recommend this guy! took him for both bus187 and bus160. got an A! extremely clear in his lectures. too much reading and notes but really interesting and entertaining too. easy class as long as you keep up with the reading and you go to class EVERYTIME.
This guy's cool, gives out a lot of the questions on the exam. Final project not that bad 60 pages country research, i actually enjoyed it. 5 people in group comes down to 12 pages each double spaced, so stop whining. Very good teacher.
READ THE BOOK! I read the chapters and got A's on every exam. I got a B+ in his class because I picked a horrible group. Choose your group wisely! It could be the difference between and A and a B. This professor was entertaining and I really enjoyed his classes. I wish I could take him again.
Boring class, boring teacher and boring all around. Couldnt stand this guy, good luck in his class.
Steve is cool, funny, and very clear on his lectures. He gives many real life examples that's very helpful to understand the material. I really enjoy going to his class. Highly recommend.
good teacher, gives great lecture but students must attend them as most of his exams are based on lectures. exams are a little difficult and there is a group project due at the end of semester.
He's an ok teacher. In order to pass his class, you must spend many hours cramming for his tests. You have a 60 page paper due at the end of the semester, which is divided up between 4-5 students. Don't expect an easy A or B. However, if you make it through the class you WILL learn something.
Don't be fooled, by his baby smile. Very superficial lectures though story telling it seems, contrast midterms and exams, wording was the problem. He talks norm, but the tests were tricky and grading sucked, confusing and branchie. He doesn't know what he is talking about, just riding a degree, that type. Oppression fashion. Power trippin.
I got an unfair C on BUS138 which is NOT supposed to be an impossible marketing course. MC tests made of horrible nitpick questions. Cumulative final is worth 40% of grade. Be careful of who you choose for your group, Francis makes this class dificult so be ready to work.
2 mid-terms, one big group project and a final. As long as you go to the lecture and read the book on your own, you should do okay. The lectures are interesting, but the group project can be a big pain if you choose the wrong people to work with. Case analysis of around 60pages. Other than that, I enjoyed his class.
Grading base on bell-curve distribution of the class, 40-60 pages group report, no presentation, tests are pretty hard, attend class and better take good notes, text book is helpful to look up terminology, focus on notes, hard teacher but extremely nice. Got to work hard to earn a passing grade! The majority of class earn a "C".
You have to come to class because materials from lectures will be on the test thats not in the book. Tests can be difficult if you dont pay attention but he lets students challenge three wrong questions if you felt your answer might be the correct one for points. Semester project can be long so choose a good group. Extremely helpful!
AWESOME TEACHER! He's really cool and lectures are straight forward. Exams can be hard if you don't pay attention, take good notes, or read the text here and there. There's a group paper to do, 50-60 pages per group. But it's not that bad. Take this guy for both 160 and 187!
GREAT Teacher. Exams are really hard. 1st day he tells u that 50% will fail. 100% true. Curves. Explains everything extremely well, but exams are really tricky. Group project can kill u, because it's min 60 pages for 6 students. So, get a GOOD group. He likes to show off, but is a very nice guy. Take him to learn the material but A is HARD to get
just wanted to add to previous comment still a hard ass teacher
Great instructor. Lectures are not as boring as you may think. Tells stories that relate to lectures to keep students engaged. Case project is not as diffucult as most would think. If you pick something that you like, it's a cinche. You do need to take extensive notes as a good portion of exam questions come from the notes.
Taking the 7:30am class..and it's brutal because ITS SO EARLY! Attendance is mandatory if you want to pass his class because his exams are based on the notes. One LARGE research paper where you try to incorporate everything you learned in the semester with a company. His grading style is unique as he grades on a NORMAL CURVE.
Exams are extremely hard and very tricky. He wants you to fail! 15 pages project are time consuming and he's being very ambiguous about it. Talk about it in class once or twice. Due on the date of final. Never avail during office hours. Interesting lectures but he takes on way too much info to cover, rush it at the end. cumulative final worth 35%
Hard!!! not an easy professor when it comes to exams. His lectures are clear yet his exams can be tricky.
Great professor, maybe my favorite so far. Go to class, take good notes, and use the study guide. He relates material to everyday events and makes the class interesting. Take his class!
I managed to pull off an "A" in this class. Warning! Only 10% of his students actually get A's. I listened to his lectures, took good notes, and briefly reviewed the book. My girlfriend who graduated with a 3.7 got a "B+". Even though I am lazy, I always knew that I was smarter than her. This class confirmed it. Class of 2006-2007!
His lectures are entertaining and he shares a number of real life examples mostly from his own business. Very clear. Group project was short of a pain. Make sure you pick group members who will actually show up and do work. He is very understanding about personal issues that may come up. Very passionate about teaching. I recommend!
Hard class. Hes a smart professor but pretty hard. Lectures are good with real life examples but no slides. Lecture is all from his mouth and occasionally he will write stuff on the board. 60 page group project is **** though. Only take this class if you are prepare to do lots of work and pay attention in class

A godsend to students. His lectures are engaging and interesting, takes the time to explain difficult concepts. Great sense of humor, very understanding. Tests can be difficult if you don't study enough, and the group paper was pretty hard, but show up to class and take good notes and you will pass. Uses the book somewhat
If you do not like working in groups do not take this class. Professor Francis gives a 75 page group paper and is not very clear on it. Need to attend class. Do not take if you do not like to write. Be sure to pick a good group.
Smart professor, but isn't too approachable. Notes are all based on lectures, with no supplementary items (such as power-point or hand outs). Instructions for group project isn't too clear, and exam review isn't very helpful.
Lectures are great, gives great examples. There are 2 exams and 1 final. He gives you the topic for every question on each exam in order!!! so if you study, you'll be fine. Just make sure you go deep into each subject bc his questions are tricky so scratching the surface won't cut it. You also have a group project: research on a company.
Professor is Good, class is good. I got A-. Pick your Group members WISELY, don't favor the hottest girl in the group, you may run into problems at the end. Overall great teaching style, recommended professor just to get the requirements out of the way.
Possibly the most talented instructor that I've encountered through three years of college. Lectures are engaging and relevant by definition; he also averages at least one good joke per five minutes. That said, he's a tough grader. Gives out a very thorough study guide, but the midterms and finals are still challenging. Still great at teaching.
Excellent instructor!
He is an amazing teach! A breath of fresh air for San Jose State. He is a fountain of information with real world experience. With that being said, he gives you a huge group paper and his tests are hard. I enjoyed his teaching so much that I took him for 187. He enjoys teaching and makes the not so exciting subjects interesting to learn.
He is unorganized about his lecture. Exams are hard.
Great lectures! hard exams, hard grader. Not helpful at all. Avoid Him. If you are lucky on tests, then take him.
If theres an easier teacher take him. Francis is a brainful of knowledge tells you great facts, keeps you engaged for such an early class. But,when it comes down to the exam you better believe to start studying before. I bombed the first exam and passed the 2nd and got a high B on final and got a C in the class. Get a good group for the paper!
Class is challenging, make sure you attend, take clear notes, read text and study every detail! He is friendly and funny, enjoyed taking his class!
Do not recommend! His lectures are interesting, but his exams are extremely hard; even though they are multiple choice the questions are so tricky and the answers even more.you have to study really hard for his exams. You have to read the book 3 times and remember everything he lectured in order to just pass. Note:exams are 85% of the final grade! :S
He's EXTREMELY conservative and believes very strongly in the free market. He represents his opinions on the market as facts. He constantly tries to impose his political beliefs onto you. His tests are ridiculously difficult and the final group project is 50 pages and extremely tedious. Avoid at all costs. You have been warned.
Despite being a 7am class, Francis woke everyone up with his engaging lectures. No hw, but there is a group essay (8-10 pgs/person) that is difficult if you have lazy partners. His tests are super elaborate so you must have a good grasp on every concept if you want a good grade.
Steve Francis, is a great teacher, but his grading is on an entirely different planet. You may think multiple choice answers for tests are "EASY", but I guarantee you will rethink that. Also the group paper in the end of his class, haha yea that’s about as futile as the tests Good Luck if you get stuck with him.
Great teacher, hard grader. Exams are extremely challenging so make sure you start reviewing once he provides the study guide. There is also a group project due at the end of the semester so be sure to choose your group wisely. Go to class, take good notes, ask questions, and you will do fine.
He is super nice and gives interesting lectures but his tests are so hard. You may think you understand his lectures but he purposely words his answers confusing on the multiple choice tests. You have to have a lottttt of motivation to study or don't take his class.
Professor Francis is easy going during lectures. For the group project, make sure you pick a good group. Exams are hard, if you study all his lectures and skim the book you should do well. Some questions are tricky, but its multiple choice so use the elimination method. Very helpful class, you will definitely learn in this class. Awesome guy.
I had Prof. Francis for both 187 (Global Dimensions) and 160 (Org. Behavior); if he offered any more classes I would take them too . He does not show up to teach because it is a job he shows up because he wants to. Mr. Francis brings concepts from his business to class, he practices what he preaches. I highly recommend Mr. Francis.
If you are eager to learn things rather than only get a good grade for learning nothing, then you definitely need to take his classes. Even though I couldn't get As in his classes, but I learned a lot from his amazing lectures. If he offers any other class besides Bus160 and Bus187, I will definitely take it.
In my 4 years at SJSU, he is hands down the best professor I ever had. Very practical, real life examples that help clarify topic. Group project, 2 midterms, and a final, but if you pay attention to his lectures, you really can't fail. 1510 rating.
choose your group carefully.
Took Francis Spring 2015 Bus 187 for Business GE. He is a good professor and you can actually learn alot if you take good notes. You really need to read the book to do well on tests. Notes alone will not cut it. Pick your group carefully, and if you don't pick a good one make sure you start taking initiate to kick people out early.
Everyone else before me has said it all. I highly recommend recording his lectures. I was able to receive B+A- on tests because I went to class everyday and followed my notes while listening audio recordings outside of class. One of my best experiences here at SJSU was listening to Prof Francis lecture and actually enjoying what he taught us!
One of my best professors! Tests are about 30% book, 70% class lecture. Lot of personal experience to learn from. Self-made company, smart professor. Gives opportunities for ec via "Challenging" questions you missed. You need to go to class to get a good grade, I experienced this myself from midterm 1 & 2. You will learn a lot from this man.
Suggest making study guides for all tests. Just buckle down and do it. I found midterms got progressively difficult. Limited room to do well, so just do well on the first two exams and group projects- Cumulative final. He is genuinely a good guy, keeps you interested, and is willing to help. Stay engaged and you'll pass. Textbook is a must for an A
Must show up to class for his lectures to do well on exams. You will learn a lot from this professor. However, you must question everything. He has a habit of promoting his personal POLITICAL AGENDA with the class lecture. Again, question everything.
Tests are tough. You must come to class for his lectures. He only has experience in running small business. A huge supporter of Reaganomics, which called for widespread tax cuts, decreased social spending, increased military spending, and the deregulation of domestic markets. For him, profit comes first before human rights & sustainability.
Steven has been one of the best professors I have taken at SJSU. I just wish he was an accounting instructor. He runs a successful small business so he was lots of real world experience. Very crystal clear and knows his material. Do not underestimate the exams. Don't just read, STUDY the material. Great professor overall. Would definitely recommend
I am in love with Steve Francis. This guy is as knowledgeable as he is attractive-but, I digress. He knows what hes talking about and his lectures are amazing. He uses real world examples and stories to help you remember and visualize the concepts that he discusses. Totally recommend him. Also has a great sense of humor which is always a plus.
Professor Francis was a great professor. He made sure his students understood and visualized the materials by giving examples. The tests were difficult. You really have to thoroughly read your notes and book a couple times to understand and remember it. There was 2 tests, a final, and a group project. Choose your group members wisely.
Great Professor and lectures well. 1 group project, 3 midterms, and 1 cumulative final. Lectures abstractly and test questions are worded weirdly. Lets you earn back 3 points on the exams (with the exception of the final) by writing him a "challenge question" explaining why you got it wrong. Solid teacher, but hardly any points to earn.
This teacher gives three very wordy midterms and a hard final. There is no other wiggle room for any points, but the midterms. There is too much info to grasp your head around from the text book. One group project that is only 5% of grade. Even with full credit from the group work you need to get C+ and up on every midterm. You can't wing class!
2 midterms and 1 final (really hard and can get confusing sometimes) are where most of your grades come from. Although Steven is really helpful and his lectures are not dry, you need to work extra hard to do well on exams. Group project does not improve your grade that much, just put in some work and you will get max credit for it.
Steve is a riveting lecturer. His class grade is composed of two midterms, one cumulative final, and a group project. I was studying 30-40 hours for each midterm and received a mid level A. His class is extremely interesting, however, it isn't a free A despite a heavy curve. Take the class if you truly want to learn the concepts that he teaches.
Professor Francis is really chill. He makes lectures really interesting and explains things in a way that make sense. I was actually interested in attending his class because of the stories he tells throughout his lectures which facilitate the material he teaches. There's also a group project that's super easy. Definitely recommend taking him.
I really enjoyed his lectures. I feel like I learned A LOT, but however his test are extremely hard. My grade definitely does not reflect the amount of stuff I learned. I would not take him again for 187!
BEST BUSINESS PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD! This guy knows what he is talking about and is very engaging with students. He makes up the test questions so GO TO CLASS because his lectures are extremely important and he will curve your grade depending on your attendance. I enjoy going to this class because I feel like I am actually learning.
There is one group project, two midterms, and a final. His midterms are from his lectures and the textbook. Honestly, his tests are really hard because he words the questions weird. This class is like an economics class but he makes his midterms really difficult. But other than that, he's okay.
he curves his exams because he has to. he takes attendance but not for participation. His lecture are different from what's in the textbook. you are tested on what's in the book and his lectures. hopefully the curve will be in your favor. but he does let you get three points back on every exam
Steve is a great professor. He is extremely knowledgeable about economics and international business and he brings a great amount of practical knowledge and real-world experience from his business outside of school. Most of his lectures build on the material in the textbook so being in class helps a ton. Tests are tough but not too bad if you study
BEST BUSINESS PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD, he knows what he is talking about and is very engaging with students. He makes up the test questions, lectures are extremely important and he will curve your grade depending on your attendance. I enjoy going to this class because I feel like I am actually learning.
I enjoyed his lectures because they are engaging. I liked how he actually used the white board to draw out elaborate examples to help the concepts sink in. His lectures cover everything on the exams and he gives a great review.
Mr Francis is a really good instructor and is very knowledgeable. Makes the class lectures interesting and is really good at explaining the concepts in the book. The only downside is his tests are not clear and very difficult and studying for it is very time consuming since you have to read the book and go thru notes. also big group project.
smester long Group Project that is time consuming. really hard exams that you probably end up getting a C or Cplus on even after hrs of studying and taking really good notes. but really does know his stuff when it comes to international business. maybe there is an easier option w/ another prof
Super easy. Curves exams and the group project is easy as long as you have a good group. I took him for both 187 and 160 solid choice for both classes
It's been a year since I've taken these classes with Prof. Francis and he's the best professor i've had at SJSU. Hands down his classes are so interesting. The group projects kind of suck but I would take him again if i had the chance. Study for his exams all of the questions are tricky but if you take good notes in class you'll do fine!
He is a very inspirational person. You will get a high value from his classes. He teaches his real life business knowledge and experiences. He does a great job explaining the concepts from the text book, so I recommend you to do the reading after class.. His strong experience in economics is reflected during his lectures. He is flexible and nice
Exams are challenging which might hurt your GPA. Overall, it was a worth taking class if you want to improve knowledge. Choosing a bad group could make you suffer whole semester. He was very knowledgeable, nice and respectful.
Great lecturer and helps make complex concepts easy to understand. Tests--though sometimes wordy--were not that difficult to understand and do. You don't really need the textbook, but I'd recommend getting it in case you didn't catch a concept covered in class. The group project is semester long and extremely simple. Personally this was an easy A.
Teaching method: From his personal experience as a manager of his own business (don't expect powerpoints or use of textbooks) Personality: funny, inspirational, somewhat young, understanding Grades: 2 Midterms (65 Q's each), 1 Group Project (3-6 ppl), Final curves exam scores and to challenge 3 questions u scored wrong Should still buy book
I took his class twice for different classes and both times was great. As long as you take notes from his lectures and read the textbook it's super easy. He heavily curves all his midterms and final. Make sure to pick a good group for the project too. Really straightforward and easy to talk to.
Steve is crazy knowledgeable, and is really good at lecturing. He keeps them interesting enough that you don't lose focus. No Book needed, but you have to show up to class in order to get the information for the exams. The group project he assigns is pretty easily graded, but can be time consuming. Highly recommend !
There are concepts which never made sense to me till he explained them. I think he gives the best examples and can simplify any problem. Very informative lectures! Great personality, funny, approachable, respected, genius! one of the best teachers out there! He is a successful businessman, but was born to be a teacher!
Great lectures. Tests are heavily curved because its tough, not hard to get an A if you study for it. Take advantage of the challenge that gives you a chance to correct your incorrect answers from the test, considering its easy three points as long as you shows your understanding!
Consider his experience as a true business owner, Steve got the drive and he teaches to give back to the next generation. Steve did not come to SJSU for a job but he comes to really give his mindset his exp to the next generations. It will take work, but the work makes sense because Steve knows why he teaches what he teaches. You're in for a treat.
His exams are very hard. He teaches based on his real experience with enthusiasm, yet I felt like it sometimes makes it tough to understand because he goes fast and is too sophisticated for me. Even I felt like I understood the lecture and read the textbook, the exams were real hard for me. It was like reading sentences and get the concept kind
Knowledgeable cuz he's a businessman. Uses simplified language, but not easy as it sounds. Expects you to deeply understand concepts and apply them to situations presented in test. Beware, they are lengthy (wordy) . Longest muliple choice answers I've ever seen. Write down everything he says cuz he dont write everything on the board.
Steve is awesome!! So knowledgeable, and the classes are really entertaining, laid back, easy to follow and understand. Test was a little tough, a lot to read but nothing too crazy. Would definitely take more classes with him.
Good lectures, if ya don't mind getting just a C. Students looking for an A, beware! He grades heavily on exams. They are curved + he let's you contest 3 Q's, which is a red flag for how hard his exams are -> SUPER wordy. His questions are too long. Don't let his enthusiasm trick u into thinkin his class is easy.
Great lectures, take good notes. Tests are tough, but he gives awesome review notes.
Love this guy. He was amazing for both 187 and 160. Enjoyed his lecture style and how he presented the information. If he taught more classes I would have definitely taken him again. His exams are on the difficult side but he curves and gives you 3 chances to get your points back by "challenging". No homework just a semester long group project.
Steve is an intelligent and successful business man. He has his own company and that really helps him explain concepts well by using antic-dotes. But he basically just lectures all the time and after a while it gets boring. Only 2 tests, a project, and a final. Tests are really hard and you have to study hard for an A. Group project is easy.
This guy is funny & lectures are amazing with real experience examples. You have 2 midterms and 1 final, all super HARD. Gives study early as his questions are long and detailed. you have to make a group in the beginning of the semester and stick with them for a sem. long prj. and he grades that fairly easy. 1 paper that is easy.
Among the best professors I've had the privilege to attend. Lectures are informative, well structured, and insightful. You truly will learn how the world economy works in his class. The chosen textbook is great as well. Nice mixture between exams, group projects, and small assignments. I enjoy hearing his personal stories.
One of the few lecturers that will leave you wishing class was longer. Very good at making the information simple to follow and explains the subject clearly. The tests require critical thinking which means you have to know the material inside and out to score high marks. The project is a lot of fun if you have the right team. Tests based on lecture
The lectures are great! But honestly this class was so difficult. Your grade is based on 3 exams (curves) and a group project. It doesnt seem too difficult until youre actually in the class. His exams are curved because majority of the class does bad on them. If youre a student that wants an A, this is not the class for you!
Don't miss your opportunity to listen to this man lecture, your economic literacy will improve exponentially. Two midterms, a semester long country profile powerpoint, and a final exam. Tests are challenging but multiple choice. Owns a company that does business internationally. Firm grasp on reality, red-pills you on the central banking cartel
He doesn't give a lot of homework but his test can be difficult. You have a semester-long group project. He also gives you the chance to challenge 3 questions on the exam you got wrong in order to get 3 points back. He gives good lectures but he can talk pretty fast. His office hours were at 7AM and there are no tutors for this class
If you can't handle an all-lecture class, you will hate this man. If you enjoy a funny, good lecture, you will love this class.
Professor is a great lecturer but he does not really prepare you for his exams. He does not provide extra credit to help boost your grade either. I wouldnt recommended taking him if you are taking harder classes. You have to put in a lot of effort to do well in his tests. Otherwise youll fail.. Not the best teacher...
Professor Steve Francis is a great and knowledgeable professor. Probably one of the better professors on campus. The tests are extremely difficult and full of trick questions where multiple answers are correct. There is also a semester long group project which is not bad. There are 2 midterms and a final other than that, which your grade is made of
Overall, a good professor. Lectures are engaging and the info is included on exams. Only graded on a few things so it's hard to get an A. There's a few exams and semester long group project. Exams are surprisingly difficult, but he does curve. Grading on the group project was generous. No homework which is nice. Attendance required for good grade.
Had him when classes became online and he had the best transition to online structure out of my 7 teachers. He makes learning fun and explains concepts really well. Only downside is his tests are hard and sort of unclear but he curves a lot.
He lectures really heavy and fast for such a hard concept. His tests are EXTREMELY hard!! The class average was 59% for one of them!!! He does curve it but it doesn't help that much. Grade is based on only 3 tests and 1 project. So if you aren't good at taking tests then don't take his class.
Amazing lectures, however, he only draws pictures.. This made it difficult to review for exams. His exams are VERY difficult and your grade is solely based on exams. Make sure you have a good grasp on the concepts and how to apply them, not just the definitions. You compete with your classmates for your grade. Project will help boost your grade.
Listen to me carefully!!! His lecture is awesome. You can learn a lot from his business perspective. HOWEVER!!!!! his exam is extremely difficult!!! answers look like the same. He expects you to go deeeeeeeeeeeep of the materials he covered! and a lot of tricky questions
He's really good at breaking down ideas. Skimming the book's helpful, but I mostly went off of whatever he lectured. Make sure you actually understand what the concepts are, don't just try to memorize. If your English isn't strong, the tests will be extremely confusing. Also, choose good group members... it's a lot of work.
The guy is one of the best Instructors of SJSU with high quality lectures. He uses real world examples from his past experience on the field and the International Business he owns. That being said, this is also one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Take my word, STUDY for the 2 midterms hard, its super long and very specific
he is a very good teacher and explains so well, but as English is my second language, I faced real hard time understanding his exam paper questions. I was so confused about the questions. otherwise, he is not hard, as just 2 midterms 1 final and 1 group project which is not too hard. he is friendly and cool.
If youre looking for an easy class, this isnt it! Hes a nice person but an extremely hard grader! His tests are extremely difficult and specific so theres no way of passing them unless you REALLY study and majority of your grade relies on that! Dont take him
Took him Summer '20. Quizzes are fairly straightforward. Tests are the biggest factor in this rating; they're tricky because he asks conceptual questions. Lockdown required, and camera's needed. No hw or ec, quizzes are basically "freebies" to balance exam grades. Curves exams but not the final. He's very understanding &knowledgeable but not easy!
He's a great professor! Had him during the Summer and his exams were tricky because they're not just based on terminology. He understands that there's nothing to help us with the weight of the exams so I think he's considering EC in the future. Definitely enjoyed learning from him, he has the quality you don't get much of from other professors.
If you like lectures and bs exams that arent in the textbook, Steven Francis is the way to go! He trys to give us more credit by giving quizzes which are easy but they are absolutely worthless... 9 questions and its only worth a fraction. Save your grade take someone else. Exams require webcam on lockdown browser. He even suspected cheating
good professor but definitely not easy at all. big group project and insanely difficult tests and cumulative final. he is knowledgeable and his lectures are useful, but boring and explains information on exam but still extremely hard. only graded based on quizzes, exams, and group project. no hw. ps; dont take this class at 7:30 am
His lectures are great but his exams are super hard and confusing. You have to do 66 questions for 1.5 hours, one having confusing algebra equation not for solving. It's worded confusingly too and his quizzes have weird scores on them. He gives quizzes before the lesson is given for the chapter.
He is a really good professor! He lectures are really helpful as he explains a lot of concepts that book doesn't go over that well. He also gives a lot of examples in class. Lectures were boring tho. He literally has no homework, but has quizzes each week. Semester long project which isnt too bad. Exams are really specific so its pretty difficult.
He is great at teaching topics and gives great examples to help understand the topics. However, his tests are difficult because of his confusing wording. He does not record lectures there are weekly quizzes, no homework, and a group project that is throughout the entire course. He did end up curving final grades.
Overall professor Francis is very knowledgeable and considerate person. I enjoyed learning from him and actually found myself very interest in the material. The only criticism is the three midterms, they are super difficult! He needs to utilize better/easy word choice on the test questions, However they are doable if you put the time and effort!
hes a good professor, but his exams are sooo hard! its not like definitions its deep analysis which can be hard if you dont understand the concepts. no homework, weekly quizzes, and a semester project which he graded pretty easily on. overall a good choice but can be hard, he also curves final grades!
This class was difficult just because he kept adjusting the grading distribution throughout the semester. While attendance isnt mandatory its helpful to come to class since everything reviewed during the lecture is on the test. His quizzes are based off of the book but barely worth anything. Try to form a study group to prep for his tests
Gives quizes weeks before they are even supposed to be read. Does not record lecture and his tests wordings are difficult for no reason. Avoid this prof.
This class will destroy your GPA since class average is C. Tests are way too hard. He teaches fairly ok but if you wanna pass the class just avoid his class
I regret taking this class last semester. I was taking 17 units and got all As except for this class. Tests are unnecessarily super hard & he doesnt offer extra credit to boost your grade. You can get perfect scores on the quizzes & projects but if you mess up one of the exams, youre doomed. I enjoyed the lectures but I wouldnt take him again.
This class was hard because his voice put me to sleep. He also makes his exams harder than they need to be and this class is meant to be an easy class. Ever since students were caught sharing work, he made all his exams and final lockdown with webcam. Take another teacher, as his grading scale always changes unfairly based on how the class did.
This Professor was a terrible choice and I should have dropped the class at the beginning of the semester. His tests are lockdown and webcam, no notes, and he does NOT curve the final grade. He always is adjusting the exam scores and I kept getting average on the tests because of it. He is not someone you want to take if you care about your GPA.
Im a straight A student and his tests didnt make sense half the time. He told the class they need to read the book 3 times and they will do good on the tests and pass the class. Soft spoken guy, but confusing material.
I tried for this class more than all of my other classes and just managed to pass. Im not sure how good he thinks hes doing as a teacher, but he has it set up so that he protects his class averages from going too high. I would NOT take this class, or any class with him in the future regardless if its on-campus or online. Worst experience.
People did not like Steven's class because they did not like working for their grade. I received an A in the class by taking notes from the textbook chapter readings, lectures, and writing out full study guides for myself. It was infuriating watching people complain, knowing that none of the complainers were doing the readings or study guides.
Im an exceptional student when it comes to test-taking. Steven Francis had errors on several Exam questions that I was able to catch and help fix for the class. If youre worried about your GPA, then I would not recommend this class. If youre okay with cheating then you might get an A like the rest of the people responding on rate my professor.
Please just dont take him. At least not for online when its lockdown browser with webcam and his lectures do not cover what is on his tests.
Looking at all the other reviews was really scared about going into the class. Once in the class, though I realized he is actually a great professor. You need to go to all the classes to pass. Make sure you read. The curve does save you. The group project is big. His lectures are really good. Just make sure you study.
Had him for bus187 & bus160 and got an A in both. Theres no HW, only exams and 1 semester long group project. His lectures are great; theyre pretty interesting, uses good examples, and he cracks a joke at times. Tests are on the harder side but he curves. Just make sure to attend class, take good notes, and maybe skim the book. Project isnt too bad
READ : My GPA average is around 3.3, this class is LECTURED heavy, exams are 60-70 questions a piece and worth your whole grade besides the group project 30% of your grade(which is relatively easy if you have a good core) He gives keywords for each question which wasn't reasonably accurate. Take the class if it's your last resort, but study HARD.
His lectures are very detailed but easy to take notes. His exams are from his lectures. If you take good notes and pay attention, you should not have any problems. He gives exam study material, but he doesn't hand feed you the answers. It is the information you need to know for the test. If you don't put in any study time, you may not do well.
A great professor for both classes he teaches, genuinely interesting and has so much applicable real world knowledge to give. Best business professor you can get IMO. My advice for his class, Don't miss >1 class per test section and you'll do fine. Find group mates who are engaged and present from the start. Makes the group project easier
Professor Francis is probably one of the best professor for ECON and BUS major at SJSU. He makes concepts exetremely easy to understand and appoarchable, he gives real life examples to backed his lectures. Although his Exam are quite tough because it is analysis base which goes beyond the lecture and textbook. Nevertheless, an excellent instructor.
Great professor! Very thorough. You'll be absolutely fine if you show up, pay attention, and dedicate a decent amount of time to the study guides he provides you before each exam. Curve is very generous for exams, too. Project is easy.
Great professor, great lecture and great experience. The course is based on 2 exams (no notes), a very easy group project and a final exam. This is the right proffesor if you want to learn but if you're lazy, don't bother about taking it.
Weekly lectures are important for two tests and a cumulative final. All tests are super analytical so studying is a must. One term project as well that is easier with good team members.
