He is tough, but one the few instructors on campus that will be very helpful and you must read you material and do assignments, he is one of the best ever instructors!

He grades the essays very hard. In a class of about 30 only 2 A, 3 B, and everything C and D. He is very hard but cool teacher. I would not take his class during the summer or winter because its just too much work for 6 weeks.

Garcia is the coolest guy. People either really like him or really hate him. He was one of the best teachers I have had. You need to do the work, you can't slack off, you can't miss a class, and he is a very hard grader. Yet, at the end of the semester, you know more than you did at the beginning.

professor garcia is one of the best teachers i've ever had. Along with his interesting lectures, he successfully brings a great sence of humor and comedy to the class. He has high expectations but works with you to achieve those expectations. He is a truly devoted teacher, and loves what he does.

I didn't have a class with Mr.Garcia, but he helped me with a scholarship paper in the writing center. He explained exactly how I should tackle the paper and even went over it with me. Very helpful, I wish I could have taken english with him!

he is a really nice guy... but... he is too nice, and makes you think your work is fine, untill you turn it in for a grade, and you get a d. no matter what. the same papers i was getting high b's in a 1a class, he was giving d's in. he is two faced in that he makes you think you have good work, untill your grades come. but good class. a little hard

Entertaining class. Great teacher, but his system of grading is unfair, for lack of a better word. Grading essays hard challenges us, but everyone who stuck through the class should have gotten an A (Probably only a few people did). Syllabus/schedules COMPLETELY INCOMPREHENSIBLE!!

Excellent professor!! Professor Garcia gave me the english skills I needed to excell, and I've done so in evey consecutive english class I've taken after his. If you are an english major or are truly serious about becoming a better writer, then take this professor!! Also, make sure you buy a dictionary and a thesaurus before taking his course.

He's a good teacher. Grades very hard. I've taken him twice. Has you write on issues that most do not like to talk about. I would not recommend him if you want an easy A. Mixes in some jokes that are funny at times and dry at times.

One of the few professor I actually admire. I had him for 1A years back while taking other intensive classes and was completely overwhelmed. This guy is HARD! I dropped and opt for another prof. Looking back, I have a pang of remorse. This is really a critically thinking class that, to me, was more difficult than my atmy2a2b,micro,and 1b.

I've taken English classes at Cal Poly Pomona & didn't learn as much as I have from Garcia. He's HARD but you will learn so much & it will benifit you in other classes. I've taken him for ENG50, 1A, & 1B so it was easier because I already know how he teaches.

A great english professor. Requires you to work hard but makes getting a good grade attainable given a good work effort on behalf of the student. One of my favorite professors at RCC. You won't be dissappointed.

Garcia is the best Eng. Prof. at RCC. Do the work EXACTLY how he tells you to do it, stay up to date with work, gives some homework and dla's but its to your benefit. Mr. Garcia was a fantastic teacher. He had a fun of activities, a couple of blue book essays, group projects, quite a few essays, but he is an easy grader as long as you follow the prompt.

He's a little funny, but a good instructor. I suggest utilizing peer tutoring whenever you have a paper due. He means well, and I have gained so much from this course. I'm such a better writer compared to what I was before hand. What an improvement!

I recommend before your paper is due to go see a peer tutor. this will ensure that you will pass the criteria of what he expects. great Professor very clear cut in directions and expects the best of you. Be prepared (book, notes, homework etc.)

At first the teacher intimidated me but after my two first papers I understood his grading criteria. He doesn't really teach just assigns readings and expects you to apply it in your essay. If you are a visual learner then this class isn't for you . yYou need to do as he says and you will pass and improve your essays. Might take for 1A.

Professor Garcia is awesome and funny. He gives great feedback on papers and will allow you to redo some assignments for a possible Pass. His lectures are very thorough and will answer any questions if you don't understand something. Group assignments. I plan on taking him for all of my English classes.

He's really chill and woke af. Easy to talk to. We talked about so many social issues I forgot it was an English class (in a good way). He provides guidance in your papers, is flexible with a lot of things, and expects you to apply stuff from the lectures, readings, and real life in your essays. I would recommend him to anyone.

I took professor Garcia during the fall for English 1a and he was the one of my best professors that I have taken by far. Although the subjects that he made the class write about weren't that interesting they weren't to hard to write about. He's there to help if you need him and gives really good feedback I definitely would take him again.

Took English 1A last senesterter with him (spring). Proffersor does explains things well and is quite helpful, yet at times can be intimidating (may look at you dumb) but at the end he helps you out a ton! Very much appreciated!

Get ready to write! Very engaging class lectures, mainly on social issues. 3 books, and he gives you the rest of the reading material. Don't be late to class and don't turn your homework in late! Prof. Garcia is a respected, caring, and helpful person. (He is also a PUENTE Program Prof.) Might be sarcastic at times but, he is like a layback cool uncle. You will have 5 or more essays during your semester,but, there are understandable topics and participation matters I strongly advise you to organize a study group with people in that class.

I took Garcia for English 50, English 1A & 1B. Absolutely amazing teacher with great insight and knowledge. He is very fair and will work with you if you need help. He can be a little sarcastic but thats just his personality. I recommend him to everyone, seriously a great person.

I took this class last fall, and while this was an English class, it really felt like a political science class since we mainly wrote about protests and political movements. He is a little tough with grading but provides a lot of feedback and is pretty approachable. We had quite a bit of class discussion and it was overall a fun class.

He is a great professor! Mostly discussed social issues but it made the class very interesting. I enjoyed coming to class. Had to write a few papers and read before class but overall this class was simple. I had to work for my A but hello this is college! If you participate in class he will remember that and it will definitely help you in the end!

Hes hilarious and a good professor. I plan on taking for ENG1B as well. Your grade is based on a few essays so make sure you put a lot of effort into them !!! I highly suggest taking Professor Garcia for English. He's very sarcastic and funny. His grading is a bit tough but he's very clear with what he wants. DON'T skip lectures, and when you go be prepared to participate. Reading is required. He based most of the topics on real life issues which made it super interesting to write about.

Prof. Garcia was the best English professor ever, his class was solely on 4 essays and a research paper but they are all super easy to write so don't be scared. Professor Garcia is one of the best professors in an English1B course he really wants his students to succeed and reach what he refers to as a "UC Level" writing in their essays and he is very relatable. He is very blunt and will tell you what you need to do to improve your writing, I would recommend him for any course.

Professor Garcia was the best professor I've had in community college. He is extremely clear in his grading criteria and looks for his students to participate in class discussion. Very caring and fun to have lecture. There is little homework, but the suggested reading/ drafts of papers are important to keep students on track to submit papers.

He cares about his students a lot, and being respectful and participating goes a long way in his class, he has an entire section of the semester dedicated to the Vietnam War so if that makes you uncomfortable I would avoid his class. He gives a lot of feedback in his grading but it can be hard to read so don't be scared to ask for help reading it

I took him both for ENG-1A/B he only grades on papers and projects but gives heavy feedback on all work. If you follow his feedback your grades will go up. In both semesters, my first paper was a C, followed his feedback, and received constant A's. Show you're willing and ask for help and he will do it. Be prepared for a lot of writing.

Take for English 1A first. I got a C on my first paper but go to office hours as they help. When he finishes up grades for the end of the he factors in participating during class and going to office hours. Follow his format for essays and be creative in your analysis. Enjoyed his class and helped better my writing skills! would recommend!

Took Professor Garcia during Fall for English 1B, honestly the best professor I have taken on campus. He only grades on essays and participation, but he does grade harshly so be ready to proofread. He's also willing to help out students earn a better grade. AND DO NOT MISS HIS LECTURES, he keeps the class intrigued and provides very important info.

Blunt but caring prof. Grade is completely based on essays. A+ paper expectations are talked about in lectures, so attendance matters. Expect communication if you miss class. Textbook for 1B is absolutely necessary, but 1A not so much.

Took him for 1A and 1B. One of the best professors. You will have to write quite a few essays, but he makes his criteria super clear, gives time in class to work on the essays and ask questions, and the best thing to do was go to WRC to get his feedback as you're writing the essay. Once you understand the framework, the class is a piece of cake.

I took Professor Garcia for English 1A and 1B classes because of how much i liked him as a professor. He truly pushes you to become a "UC Level writer" and makes sure you understand what you're writing about before you do it. He is a tough grader, but that's kind of the fun of taking his class, it pushes you to become a better writer.

Like the other reviews said, he cares about your writing and really pushes you to be ready for "UC level writing." I took accelerated and while we did have a quite a few papers to write, he gives you a very detailed and clear grading criteria. Deadlines are ehhh, but he did extend (almost) every deadline he posted, last deadline he extended twice!

Great dude honestly, he really challenges you to better yourself within your writing. He did seem little unorganized for my class and hard to reach outside of class as well. Beware that you won't be able to view your grade on canvas, you just have to ask him and everything will be turned in by hand.

Professor Garcia is a great professor. Even though it is a tough class, he does provide a lot of feedback that if you keep track of and seek help, you will become a strong writer. Most of your grade is determined by your papers, participation, and attendance, your grade is not published on canvas.

I took Professor Garcia for English 1A and 1B, and he is an amazing professor. I took 1B over the summer, we did one essay a week and a discussion board. The prompts for the essays are detailed, and he even provides examples so you know exactly what he's looking for. He also provides a lot of feedback on your papers which makes it easy to improve.

I took this class for Summer Session will say there is about 5 essays to be written in this 6 week course on readings like short-stories, poems, etc. This class may be hard to take in the summer for those who struggle to write essays in a short amount of time, however, it is very doable! He gives great feedback to genuinely make you a better writer

I took Professor Garcia for English 1B over summer and enjoyed it more than expected. English was never my favorite, but his class had engaging readings and videos.
