he was an ok teacher. he is not good if you don't easily grasp math concepts. he does grade liberally tho, i got an a but i couldn't tell you half of what we "learned".
I thought that he was a good teacher. Sometimes you have to figure out problems on your own..but he is willing to help. You get a cheat sheet on your test and he grades easily. I liked him overall....he has a funny since of humor.
great teacher. he graded real easy. he dropped the lowest test grade if you keep all your notes/quizzes/homeworks/tests. if you take notes and do your homework you can make an a
Mr Gonzales is a great teacher. He is helpful. sometimes he confuses people with the way he explains, but he is really good in the subject, and the only thing you need is to put attention. The way he grades is easy. He drops the lowest test.
Great guy, hilarious. Im a math guru, so it all clicked easily for me. when i didnt get it, he met with me int he lab for about an hour (that was when i got it). great guy, loves using gas prices as an analogy for logs...
funny and entertaining
super funny. cracks me up everyday! take his class, you will love it.
Took for Business Cal, Great Teacher, will bend over backwards to help you understand, gives notebook grades to replace a bad test grade. Show up, do the work, you'll be fine.
He was a very good teacher who is willing to help and if you are good in math this class will be a breeze! He also has a very sarcastic sense of humor and the class is more fun if somebody brings that out in him... overall great class
Let me just start by saying that math isn't my thing. Mr. Gonzales goes through the material SUPER fast, so if you math isn't your strong suit either, I wouldn't take his class. He is more than willing to help you understand. I've had a really hard time, but have an A in the class with only the final exam left. He's a super leinient grader!
goes through the material kinda fast, but if you ask questions he will definately help you out! the class is not hard at all, just show up & listen. hw is always due before exams!
LOVE this teacher, keeps the class interested, lots of participation. Willing to help anytime, with any question. So disappointed that he didn't teach any other higher level maths! Show up, do your homework and work the test reviews and you should be just fine!
This professor is awesome. He really made math fun and relevant to daily life. He is more than willing to help students understand the material. I highly recommend him if you plan to take a math course.
Amazing teacher. Really gives his best effort to help you.
Couldn't ask for a better teacher!
very easy class. i am not good at math at all but if you put forth the effort to study for tests, it will pay off.
Couldn't have asked for a better math teacher. Really helps you become better at the subject. I recommend him to anyone.
Excellent teacher. Mr. G is very helpful and willing to answer any questions (he also allowed us 1 page of notes on exams). I highly recommend this teacher, he is great.
Awesome teacher!! I loved his summer class, he keeps you entertained and the class was never boring. He is funny to and very helpful. Its impossible to fail his class. He made a very clear understanding.
I was nervous and unsure of myself going into Calculus. Could not have asked for a BETTER TEACHER in the world! He is what other teachers should aspire to be more like. He knows his stuff and KNOWS HOW TO CONVEY IT TO HIS STUDENTS! Take him! He's fun and makes learning interesting. Wish I could take him for Cal 2! 6 out of 5 stars!
Awesome professor, very rich sense of humor. This class was very fun. Highly recommended.
Good teacher but he tends to get off subject way too much, gave a lot of homework but if you knew what you were doing this class was fairly easy.
Mr.G is a great teacher. He made sure everyone understood the material, and regularly stayed after class to help his students on his own time. Couldn't ask for a better math teacher, I highly recommend taking his classes.
What a great instructor. He took into accout I wasn't a good tester, his class was always fun. I think he is the only person that I could have survived 3.5 hours of Calc. 2 with. If you have a math class at vista, this is the guy to take.
As perfect a teacher as they come. I took Mr. G because of favorable reviews and I don't regret it. Absolutely loved his class, great humor, smart, and understands the subject enough to explain it to students in a way they can understand. I've already signed up for him again for the next semester! He makes complicated math seem simple, love it!
Wonderful teacher. Cannot recommend him enough. Treats everyone with respect. Always willing to help, but expects his class to work with him. Not an easy class, but in the end you will feel you have learned something.
This is the second time having him as a teacher and he is stuck with me for cal 1 next. Great teacher as long as you try and ask questions. I recommend him everytime for math classes.
Because he is kind of unusual he makes class interesting to pay attention. You know when to pay attention and when not to. He may get off subject but he teaches very well. Tells you exactly what you need to know. Great teacher im taking him again for pre-cal. Not cal only because time doesnt workout with my schedule. I def. recommend him!
Great teacher. He's entertaining and gets off topic a bit, but you're guaranteed to learn every time you meet for class. He explains in plain English what the book is trying to get across, and will do his best to make sure you learn from the class. This is my 2nd class taught by him and if I needed more math, I'd take him again.
Great teacher! He is always willing to take time to help you understand the material. he also keeps things interesting!
This professor, in my opinion, gets good ratings because he is a nice guy. He was unorganized in class. I don't mind friendly, but at times he seemed a little unprofessional. Near the end of the course he would bring in notes he printed from the web and we would spend most of the class watching as he remembered how to complete the material.
DOESN'T know how to teach. Very disorganized and goes threw concepts really fast. Good ratings HERE are defiantly form the Professor himself. Shame on you! Steven, you didn't think we would have figured it out. It was easier to figure you out that your class. Not enough effort in his teaching method.
Worst Teacher Ever. Doesn't know how to teach.
He is a quirky teacher with a different teaching style. He is not very clear about expectations but most of the class is passing with above a B. He does a lot of peer mentoring as a way of teaching and it works because sometimes we can think of out of the box ways to explain it. He can be a little harsh at times but overall is a nice guy.
SO confusing. He kind of expects you to just "know" what he is talking about. Not a good teacher if you like things explained thoroughly and patiently, but he IS nice and very... entertaining. Bottom line: I had to re-take the class. :(
He is very nice and he is available for help. If you expect to get an A by just going to class then don't take him. He only explains the basics and the rest is up to you. You need to know the material inside and out in order to do well on the tests. I would study an extra 2 hours in the tutoring lab everyday, but I would take him again if I could.
Worthless. He seems like a nice guy but then assigns a ton of homework and makes it due the day of a test. That's great. How am I supposed to know if I understand a concept or not if you don't grade homework until post test? That's a joke of a teacher. Skip this guy all together. He does not have his work together. What a waste.
Nice guy and very helpful. It's up to you to keep up with your homework instead of doing it all last minute. The test reviews ARE the tests, same with final. Allows you to use an index card as notes on tests. Course layout and due dates are on canvas, just pay attention.
Terrible
This class wasn't as interesting as any other math class.Professor Gonzalez seemed like he expected the students to do class work by themselves and didn't help them as much. Steven didn't explain the steps as much I hoped for and kept going on to another math section. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOUR NOT GOOD AT MATH!
DO NOT take this instructor!!! Very unorganized, not clear on assignments, expects you to already know the material. Tries to be funny, annoying when he talks because he closes his eyes a lot...kinda distracting. Poor excuse for an instructor. I got an A all THANKS TO You-tube!!
I had him as a maymester teacher and he made the 3 hours go by really quickly. He is good about helping students learn and not doing the work for them. He is great at explaining things other ways than just one and is patient with students that don't understand. I can tell he enjoys his job and that he actually cares about his students exceling.
In attempting this his class, I am completely confused. His class is discombobulated at best. The material is difficult to follow and he adds his twist to make questions even more confusing. He is not easily approachable. After tests are graded, we do not review them His idea of teaching well is to cover tons of material despite no one in class und
He's really funny, even kind of weird. But he's pretty clear in discussions, and if you ask questions during class he'll do what he can to help clear things up. The material is fairly easy as well, and he goes over homework during class. It's definitely wasn't a boring math class in my opinion.
Every day really does count when coming to the class. Teaches you most of the stuff pretty good, but studying on your own time is important as well for this class.
Do not take him if you are not good at math , he doesn't really explain things step by step. We do have homework but he doesn't grade them. Mainly gives out a quiz at the beginning of class. Although he's a nice guy I wouldn't take him again.
This guy doesn't teach, expects you to know every order of operation your self. Makes you feel stupid if you don't. If you aren't a math wiz already don't take this guy. I felt very uncomfortable asking anything and soon just found myself only copying the board and hitting the Math lab. Why pay for that?
Not good professor. Does not like when you ask questions. Weird personality. Save yourself and take another instructor, PLEASE!!
If you are good at math it is an easy class. Homework is not mandatory. There is a quiz at the beginning of each class about the topics covered in the last class. If you are not great at math and need explanation, find a different instructor. If you are good at math and just trying for an easy credit, this is your class.
Steven was a good math professor and to the point. Even though he skipped steps you can go to tutoring and he will be very clear. He will answer questions. Homework is not mandatory but if you do it the tests are easy. If you do the review you will pass. Gives full credit on a test if you have the right idea. Here and there he can be rude.
Professor Gonzales was a good professor. His tests were basically what was on the review. Homework was technically optional, but in order to pass his tests it's better that you do it. He has a very quirky personality and was an overall fun teacher to have. He never had problems helping students with questions although he as sarcastic at times.
He is a good teacher, like any prof practice problems are essential to learning material. Cool guy who explains problems clearly.
Take him!! Very organized, helpful and fair grader. Do the home-work, extra credit and go over the material before class starts and you're in a good shape. He's tests aren't bad, theyre from the home work if you do it your most likely will pass.
Really fair grader and always offers easy extra credit opportunities. Reviews the previous lesson with a group quiz the next day. Tests are easy if you do the hw and review!
I love that he requires us to participate in class.
Was great at giving feedback and did not mind going over material over and over until we got it.
Good teacher, willing to help all that ask.
Mr. Gonzales is a fair grader and genuinely wants you to pass. 3 tests and then a final over everything. Can be confusing when teaching the materials, but try and keep up with the homework, which is mandatory but isn't due until the day of the test. Sit next to someone smart bc lots of group discussion. He does allow a notecard on the tests.
Professor is funny and will make you laugh. He is a fair grader and will give you credit as long as you attempt problems. There are four tests, four homework grades, two projects, and a few grade you get for attending class. DO THE HOMEWORK, it will help a lot, you will see similar questions on the tests! He says to do just odds, but do all!
I am not good at math and have not taken it since junior year of high school. LOVED this class! I took it as a maymester in class and I learned so much! you are able to use one notecard for the exams, but he prepares you so well for them I did not really need it! A great guy with a fun personality that makes learning fun. I WISH he taught 1325!
Is not a good teacher. He often gets lost in the middle of showing us how to solve a problem. We're left to figure it out for ourselves. Goes off subject A LOT.
Challenging course as expected but he made it easy. Real simple, do the homework and show-up. Homework isn't due until each test which is nice, but don't fall behind. He's more than fair on grading the test and would love to take him for precal but he's teaching cal instead next semester.
Mr. Gonzales is a great professor but the class is very challenging, sometimes he skips some steps and its a little confusing, you really need to put in LOTS of work to get an A or a C max
Mr Gonzales is good professor. He expects you to know some of the concepts. He sometimes skip steps while teaching. One of the good ways to pass his exams is to study all the quizzes he gives you because those quizzes are your exams review.
I like his class because he does give a lot of good 'business type' examples that are current, which makes you think and understand the math as a business major. I agree with many others on here that say, do the homework and study the homework quizzes and test will seem easy. He is funny and very helpful so don't hesitate to ask questions in class
Do not take this class if you struggle with math, he will expect you to know previous knowledge already and will skip steps assuming you know. I struggled in this class and was respectful he did call me out on a low blow which did leave me angry as he is supposed to be an adult disrespectful dont take him he could have at least talked to me.
I take it in May Master, but it was long lectures, and he expects you to have good prior knowledge of Math and skips many steps. Quite challenging but your hard work can make A.
I had to take this class for a 2nd time during the summer, and if I had taken it with him the first time it wouldn't have been necessary to re-take it. He explains everything in the best way and answers every question to the best of his ability. One of the best and most knowledgeable professors I've had so far.
Mr Gonzales is a good professor, and knows how to teach the business side of math. He has a great personality and will have you laugh throughout the class, however, the only flaw is he expects you to know more than you should. The class can be challenging, but if you show up and turn things in, you'll pass.
Most of the work we work on he expects that you already know most of the material. If you don't its ok, he will help! You have a quiz every class period but are allowed to work on it with your group. This quiz will help you prepare for the test! Tests are not hard if you've studied and lets you use note cards. The final was just like the test.
I hate math but I loved him! He is so funny and cares about the students. He will also truly help you if you don't understand something!! 10/10 recommend :)
I had to learn everything myself from YouTube. He thinks people already know much of the stuff, and jumps right into equations without giving formulas, which makes you wonder how he solved them. There are three exams and a final. His exams are not that hard. Get ready to learn most things yourself. Plenty of time for homework, just have to learn.
He literally doesnt teach. He just gets up on screen, throws you in groups, and says figure out these problems. I wish I wouldve chosen a different professor
If you are really great in math then this is the class for you but if you struggle just maybe get someone else. It is a lot of teaching yourself and no reviews for exams. His teaching style is very laid back and he is a nice professor. Everyone learns differently just not for me.
I would recommend avoiding. It's hard to follow, you need to have prior knowledge, and during the lectures expect to be thrown into groups that are trying to piece together the material that was glossed over just like you. He is, however, pretty laid back and a fun teacher in general but expect to work more than needed and have plenty of free time.
I would recommend this class only to people who don't rely on the professor to actually teach the material during class. If you are a YouTube student, this is the class for you. He gave us assignments for each class, which we discussed in small breakout rooms before his lecture.
Mr. Gonzales teaches at a fast pace that can be confusing but if you just speak up and ask questions he will gladly take the time to help. Doesnt take late points on daily assignments and is extremely laid back. Very caring about your situations and the work isnt hard if you participate in class. Would take again 100%.
Professor Gonzales is a pretty good professor. He gets straight to the point when teaching and cares for his students a lot so make sure you ask questions if you have any. Although he is pretty quick at solving problems and tends to skip a lot of steps. But don't worry the homework does help out a lot. It is a fast-paced course, so don't be absent.
This class is hard in general but if you ask questions you should be good. Professor Gonzales is quick when teaching but I can't stress enough as long as you ask questions things will be much more clear. He really wants you to succeed and its very helpful. Overall he was a great teacher.
I was fine in this class because I had taken precalc in high school but the teacher does not teach. He gave out handouts and then had students write the answer on the board. Never did a single lecture. If you know algebra and want an easy A, this is a good class for you but if you need to learn algebra this will not help.
Professor Gonzales was amazing, he is very caring and helps his students follow along with his lecture. I went into his class hating math but he did not give up on me, and I was able to find his class enjoyable. Definitely recommend Professor Gonzales.
I understand professors wanting to let us do independent learning but at least use the book. Instead of giving out papers with no explanations and expecting the students to figure it out from each other. He's a good person, just needs to tweak his teaching, We shouldn't know more about the teachers life than what we are working on.
Steven Gonzales business mathematics was a class that I enjoyed. I had not been in a math class in 18 years and you are expected to already know most of the material before entering this class. He was understanding and willing to go over anything over and over again. He explained things clearly and made the class fun to come to.
He is a bit quirky, but helps. Hw is not necessary per se, he does require it but I've found myself doing half of the work on a few he just gives me a 90. I suggest you study for his exams. He is lenient, and will grade test by taking off points. So you work right but made a mistake and got the answer wrong he will just knock off points. Recommend
If you actually want to learn something, don't bother. He doesn't lecture, rather sits and works out problems on a handout. Disorganized, no actual notes, inadequate explanations. Very carefree demeanor, and he seems to be lenient with his grading. But if you want to improve your skills in mathematics please avoid at all costs.
The class isn't too hard, but you're mostly teaching yourself. He skips steps, rarely explains, and often goes off topic. The book and tutoring helped me a lot. His Canvas page was messy and disorganized, with missing due dates. However, he does allow a cheat sheet, which is helpful.
I retook this course for a second time with a different teacher, and thankfully was able to pass because of Professor Gonzales. He is someone who is very understanding and genuinely wants all of his students to be successful. Sometimes it was a bit difficult to follow along; however, if you pay attention and ask questions, you will be just fine.
He doesn't lecture at all, and only goes over practice problems, so you'll have to put in effort to learn the material on your own time. I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T HAVE A GOOD GRASP OF PRE-CALC/ IF YOU NEED A PROFESSOR WHO LECTURES. His tests are exactly like the worksheets however and he is a decent grader.
