He is by far the best prof. here at Central. He bends over backwards to help you understand genetics and his lectures are fun to go to. He keeps you constantly interested in new genetics topics.Overall, a great guy
Awesome professor. He is the only prof that has bothered to learn my name. He really wants to help people do well and is always available. Great lecture, very entertaining.
Best Professor Ive had in the past 5 semesters. Most avaiable professor at CMU and will do anything to accomidate anyone. If you spend time on the study guides provided you WILL do good on the exams.
Awesome professor! Not an easy class in any sense, but helps a ton in preparing you. He's very open to students and will go way out of his way to help. By far one of the most helpful and friendly professors I've ever had at CMU. I can't begin to explain how helpful and nice this guy was compared to most professors in the biology department.
By far the best prof in CMU, he takes the time to know each student one on one , not to many profs do that.
What a great guy
Best professor I've ever had. He would do whatever it took to help you understand the material and he really cared about knowing his students. I think he knew everyone's name in the whole lecture. Great guy and I would definitely recommend taking him.
He is the cutest guy ever! Very helpful and it was just a really fun class. Usually i hate Bio, but he made it a really fun lecture
He's one of the nicest guys ever and loves what he does. Makes class interesting and has fun videos to watch before class. I liked going to bio, even on the days that were cold. I usually hated bio, but i'd recommend him to anyone that comes to CMU or wants a great professor. Super easy to get ahold of and replies to all of your emails. I <3 him!
Gorsich is the best professor I have had at CMU so far. He truely loves his job and it shows. If you have problems with the material simply talk to him and he will take extra time to help you figure stuff out. Everything on the exams are from his notes and you dont even need the book.
Best professor ever! He's soo nice and willingly to help in whatever way possible. He actually tries to learn his students names too. He obviously cares about his students and loves teaching. If you have to take bio, take it with him. Heck, take any class with him. I'm signing up for more of his classes just because I love him teaching!
Professor Gorsich is an excellent instructor. He will help in any way that he can. He lectures just enough where a student does not feel overwhelmed. Highly recommend him. He only teaches in the fall but he was worth the wait. Allowed to miss 5 classes, but will consider this case by case. Would take another class with him
Great professor. Is truly interested in his students and willing to help out. Makes things really clear. I would definitely take another class with him.
BEST PROFESSOR AT CMU. He loves bio and is extrememly passionate about making sure each student does well in his class. He gives away lots of extra credit and is willing to do anything he can to help you understand. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR in any class and you'll do very well! Loved him and will probably jump into any class he teaches : )
One of the best teachers Ive ever had, extremely nice guy who's always willing to help. You can tell he really loves Bio, he makes boring material interesting and funny. Show up to class, take notes, study and you'll do well. He also gives out extra credit to help boost your grade. I would definitely take any class that he teaches.
Absolutely one of the nicest guys ever. Genetics was a tough course, but he is so willing to help you that it makes it ok. He will bend over backwards to help you understand the material and he legitimately wants all of his students to succeed. Has review sessions whenever you want and is willing to meet for coffee and review. Take him if possible!
Great professor! Class was easy and interesting. Always willing to help and actually knows the students' names. I would highly to take his class.
I took Dr. Gorsich's class about alternative energy. He was really passionate about the subject, and really enjoyed teaching it. The class wasn't hard, and he made sure that we enjoyed what we were doing, whether it was learning in class or working on projects.
Great teacher! Loves his job! He is pretty funny, and class is bearable :) He gives study guides for his tests and he never tries tricking you on the test. He is an awesome teacher and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking him!
this is the best bio professor ever, especially if science is not your thing. he uses powerpoint notes and that is basically the test. and he is very helpful in emails, you can email him anytime. he is a great guy and a fantastic teacher. TAKE HIS CLASS EVERY CHANCE YOU GET =D
he is really good. Always very helpful. Just makes the class really easy and presents everything well.
You will not find a better professor in the biology department. Fantastic notes and lecture was always enjoyable to go to. Great, down to earth guy who will go out of his way to help you learn no matter what. Genetics can be hard but he makes it as easy as possible for you to know it.
great professor go to the reviews and you will be fine
Most DEDICATED professor at CMU...ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP you with any questions. Very APPROACHABLE and personable. Makes you feel comfortable in class and outside of class, very FRIENDLY. Review sessions very helpful for tests. Had him for genetics but have heard good things from students taking other classes of his.
Dr. Gorsich is the BEST! He always has time for his students, schedules regular reviews, and wants everyone to do well. I learned a ton and enjoyed every lecture.
He was in charge of my lab section, and he was very clear and helpful during class. Very nice guy, converses with students, helpful. I recommend taking him for any of your classes if you have a choice.
Great professor! He will always take time to sit with whoever asks to help them understand the material, advise, or just shoot the breeze...overall good guy!
LOVE Dr. Gorsich. He is one of the best professors I have ever had! He is so helpful and he makes the class a lot of fun
He definitely cares for the students and gives you lots of opportunities to raise your grade! You can find homework answers online but quizzes everyday and tests are kinda difficult. He gives extra credit and plenty of SI reviews but needs to teach more in class. Worth taking though!
He is such a sweet professor. He's pretty goofy. Everyday is almost the same. There is an individual quiz that's really short and then you take it again with your group he assigns. That means you have to read the assigned reading before class. Afterwards, he does an activity. Exams are easy if you look at his study guides. Highly recommend him!
The BEST teachers hands down here at Central Michigan University. Extremely knowledgable in his subject, always willing to help out, and gives a few bonus points here and there just for showing up. He's got a great sense of humor, and he's just an all around great guy. Will be looking for him again for upper level classes in biology!
Best professor at CMU! Dr. Gorsich is so helpful and genuinely cares about each of his students. He is very accessible and holds study sessions every sunday night throughout the entire semester. The material isn't easy but he does activities to help students understand it and gives bonus points a lot. Highly recommend him!!
Great guy and prof. He is passionate and tries his hardest to help you succeed-bio isn't my thing, but he explained and made it as painless as possible. Definitely recommend him!
Best professor I've ever had!! Definitely recommend
I absolutely loved Gorsich! The exams are kind of hard but if you go to the exam review sessions he has then you'll be set. He's very helpful and you can tell he wants his students to get a good grade!
OUTSTANDING TEACHER. Best professor I have had. Teachers like Gorsich truly are what teachers should be. He teaches to all different learning types, he holds review sessions of his own. If you want to succeed in the class you most definitely will.
BEST TEACHER. He explains everything very thoroughly so everyone can understand. If you don't understand a concept, he explains well. He's such a nice guy and extremely approachable.
You have to read every day and you have to go to class everyday because you have mini quizzes but if you do the reading they are relatively easy. He also makes podcasts to help describe even more the concepts that you don't understand from the book. He makes funny jokes and they help you remember key concepts.
We were the guinea pigs to the new classroom set up. You're put into groups based on how you work with others. At the beginning of every class theres a "did you read" quiz, and then activities that go along with the reading. Gorsich was pretty funny and really into the material. He'll help explain anything you need clarity on. Do the work to pass.
I love Dr. Gorsich! I had him for BIO 110 and he was really amazing. He always did podcasts so we would understand the material better which was easy for those who don't like reading. Definitely recommend Dr. Gorsich!
Fantastic professor. A rare combination of knowledgeable and humorous. He holds study sessions every Sunday night and makes podcasts, so it's pretty easy to get help with things you don't understand. Don't even consider other professors, just take Gorsich and you won't regret it.
Gorsich helps the students when needed. He is very flexible and is able to answer any questions. I really enjoyed being in his class.
Not an easy class, but I fell in love with Dr. Gorsich this semester! You definitely need to apply yourself if you want to get an A, but as long as you go to class and WATCH THE PODCASTS you will do fine. I tried to read everything on the note taking guides in the beginning of the semester but it was a waste. The podcasts make everything simple.
The tests are pretty easy if you study for them and listen to the lectures. The note taking guides that he posts are pretty representative of what is on the tests. Doing those will really help improve your grade.
I absolutely loved him!! He is the perfect professor for this course or any science course. You can tell he really loves what he does and takes extra time to really him his students in any way that he can. You should take at least one course with him over your 4 years at CMU.
Gorsich has been one of my favorite professors throughout my time at CMU. I struggle with biology, but he made the class so much more bearable. His review sessions before tests on Sunday nights were the main reason I passed the tests- so go to those. If I had to take this class again, I wouldn't take it with anyone but him. Amazing professor!
He's very helpful, and knows what he is talking about. I wasn't doing so hot in the beginning of the semester, but with his help I'm doing way better. Attend class, you lose 15 points if you don't. Watch the podcasts before class!! Attend study sessions if you need to.
Dr. G is a great professor especially with the active learning rooms. A lot of his class is self driven you have easy quizzes everyday but if you watch and take notes on the podcasts from the night before you're good. ALWAYS SHOW UP a good chuck of your grade is the daily quizzes and group participation. He is an amazing teacher!!!
Dr. Gorsich is a great guy and an amazing professor. You can get up to 15 points each day (5 points for individual quiz, 5 for group quiz, 5 for activity) this is weighted the same as an exam so GO TO CLASS!!! Most of the exams are not too difficult, but you definitely need to watch the podcasts and take notes! Overall great professor!
I would NOT recommend this class to anyone. Busy work! Weekly timed quizzes, weekly discussion boards, timed mid-term and final (both with two parts) Worth over half the grade! Weekly collaborate sessions late, a lot of reading, unclear and unorganized instructor. Gives quiz the same weeks as final and midterm; only opens towards end of the week.
Dr. Gorsich is a great guy but can be a little spacey when providing information. He seems unsure sometimes but if he doesn't know an answer he will look it up and get back to you right away. The flipped classroom(interactive learning) didn't really appeal to me and seemed like a waste of time. Overall it was an okay class
Best professor ever....I would highly recommend him. He gives online exams and the exams are always easy. and the class average for all the exams always falls within the 80-87 range. he gives extra credits and he is very enthusiastic. I am pleading with you please take him if you really want to pass the class with an A.
Gorsich is a great professor. He teaches in an active learning class which means that instead of a typical lecture, he puts up videos of the notes and you have to watch them on your own then do group activities in class applying the info. Quiz at the beginning of every class over the videos for that day. Overall, great professor
Gorsich is a great professor and very excited about biology. The exams are hard, but his class is worth it.
Gorsich is by far the best professor I've had at CMU. He's really friendly and makes sure you understand what he's teaching. The active learning style is weird at first but his podcasts are really in depth and helpful. He's super genuine and going to class was fun, even though you have individual and group quizzes every day. Definitely recommend.
GORSICH IS THE BEST. Coolest guy ever - truly cares about his students more than any professor I've ever had. Makes podcasts before every class and explains everything in detail so it's easy to understand. He is so passionate about biology and makes the class really fun. Hands down my favorite professor at CMU. Definitely take him if you can!
This class was the most work I have ever had to put forth but I learned a lot because of it. A lot of podcasts to prepare for the daily lecture quizzes. Get ready for group work because every class requires it. He is hilarious and really knows his stuff. His lecture did not do a lot but his podcasts are crucial and helpful.
I had Dr. Gorsich for Bio 112, he teaches in an active-learning classroom and has been for a long time so he knows what he is doing. You watch podcasts before you come to class and then get worksheets that go in more detail on the topic but relate to real life situations. I would take him for Bio 211 because he is such a great teacher and very fun.
Gorsich is the goat, flipped classroom so a lot of time out of class for podcasts but they are extremely helpful and beat a normal lecture anyday!
Dr. Gorsich is one of the best professors in the department. He is very kind and understanding. Very very personable. This class is active learning. However, his podcasts are super helpful. Used the podcasts and note taking guides the most. Heads up all exams are online. He also gives several opportunities for extra credit. Take BIO 211 with him!!
I recommend taking any class you can with him! I also took BIO 112, both of which are active learning classes. He posts podcasts for each day and there are daily quizzes that make up a good chunk of your grade. He hosts review sessions every week in case you need extra help. He genuinely cares for his students and is always willing to help.
Very good professor, he is probably the best professor I have had at CMU. In this course, he explains the material very well and tries to make each student understand. The only downside is probably how much you have to do outside of class. But all in all it is worth it in the end.
The active learning style classroom was perfect for this type of class. Although the material is VERY hard, he makes it known that he wants to help and has office hours. He truly wants everyone to pass and connects with his students on a friendship level which makes it easier to talk to him. Lots of activities and podcasts but worth it.
The active learning set up of this class is executed well. Not an easy class but definitely do-able with work put in. Dr. Gorsich is a good prof and is very effective at explaining tough concepts.
I had Gorsich for BIO112 & BIO211 and he is my favorite professor at CMU! He teaches in an active learning style, which is different at first but in the end, it really helps you learn the material instead of just memorizing it. He cares so much about his students and if you put in the work, you can definitely do well in his class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Gorsich is great. I had him for BIO 112 and 211. The podcast are VERY long and annoying but help A LOT so I recommend taking him for a class that is two days a week. Quizzes are super easy and test are easy as long as you understand the podcast. ASK if you need help. He is very easy to talk to. Give great recommendation letters!!!!
Dr. Gorsich was one of the best biology professors that I've had yet at CMU. He cares a lot about his students and was extremely accessible outside of class. The lectures are helpful, and he has an active learning style classroom. Exams were taken online outside of class.
One of my favorite professors at Central! He is so understanding and has a great sense of humor. My class was in person but he gives the exams online and you have 5 days to complete them because he understands people are busy. His podcasts are really helpful and we were allowed to miss 3 classes.
One of the best Biology professors at CMU. He is very understanding and is willing to work with you. He gives exams online and allows 5 days to take them because he wants everyone to take the exam when they are ready, He is very accesible outside of class. His podcasts help A LOT. He comes in every week to conduct review sessions.
He's by far the best professor I have had yet at CMU. He is very caring, and he goes above and beyond to help make sure everyone understands the material. He makes podcasts that help a ton, no textbook needed if you listen to them! His exams line up directly with lecture, so you will always feel prepared! I highly recommend taking a class with him!
He was an awesome professor. Has podcasts that make everything easy to understand before you come to class. He makes a lot of jokes while teaching which makes class more enjoyable. Has all online exams and daily quizzes which are not too hard.
SWIDGE!! Favorite prof ever. He makes you work for it but it's very clear what you need to do to do well. ONLINE EXAMS! Pay attention, take notes, go to his reviews, go over homework, and activity sheets. He even offers extra credit. Do NOT hesitate to ask questions. He is so friendly & honest. Thanks for a great semester Dr. G!
Best professor at CMU by far. He was always ready to help his students learn and understand the material. Always available to just talk about life as well
Dr. Gorsich was an amazing professor and by far one of the best professors I've had at CMU! He is always ready to help when you need it, whether it is about life or the class - use his office hours. This class is pretty difficult, so be sure to ask him questions when you need to.
BEST professor I've ever had. Loves the subject and really cares about his student's success.
Steven Gorsich is a pleasure to work with. He maintains a perfect balance of keeping students engaged with humor and fun stories, and getting the work done. The class is moderately difficult, but he offers many options for people to stay on track and do well. Take Cell Bio and genetics with him if you can.
Bio is hard, this class is hard, but steven is amazing. he will make sure you understand the material. exams are difficult, but if you study the material you go over in class you will be okay. always pay attention in class. lectures are important and he goes over a lot, but he explains things very well.
Dr. Gorsich is an amazing professor. A lot of work has to be put in outside of class but it is structured in a way that is motivating and will help you to understand the material well. I would highly recommend taking his class. Do not skip out on the podcasts.
Dr. Gorsich teaches BIO 112 in an active class style. You work in groups everyday. There are 2 daily quizzes, one is with the i-clicker and the other is group. There are 3 online exams also. Make sure you study everything. Make sure to watch the podcasts and take good notes to prepare for the quizzes. He is a good prof and cares about his students.
The active learning style of the class is really helpful. Exams are taken online using a lockdown browser. You watch a YouTube podcast that you take notes on before each class that are extremely helpful, and he provides a detailed study guide for the cumulative final. Overall, he's a genuinely good prof that cares a lot for his students' success.
This class is a flipped classroom, but the activities in class are guided and you learn a lot from them. There are daily quizzes over the podcasts you must watch, but the podcasts are interesting and the quizzes are easy if you pay attention. Overall a great professor that genuinely cares about his students and wants the best for them.
Steven is a very funny guy and makes the class interesting by having daily activities and quizzes. He explains things well and is very easy to reach outside of class. He is very passionate about the subject and about students and gives daily advice. Tests are hard, make sure you study and take notes or form a study group. WATCH THE PODCASTS!!
I had gorsich for genetics and he is great. Take him if you have the chance He makes videos and explains things way better than the book. The book was online and I didnt read it once. The homework and test and quizzes are not hard if you go to class and watch the videos. He also does interesting extra credit!!! I got a B but was very close to an A
Dr. Gorsich was my favorite Professor at CMU -he really wants you to learn material and apply this to real world situations. If you ever have the chance, take him!
Gorsich is hands down one of the best, if not the best, professor at CMU. Truly cares about his students and gives you all the material you need to know. It is up to you to put in effort to pass the class.
He loves the topic and it shows! He has weekly video lectures, is easily accessible by email for questions, Webex q & a sessions, weekly note outlines of key concepts provided, online textbook, Group projects are a weekly quiz and essay Webex meeting, individual quizzes weekly, midterm and final exams. A TRUE teacher!
If you have the opportunity to take this prof online, then do it! You have to watch the podcasts to be able to pass his weekly quizes. He is the most hands on and ready to help professor I have ever had and I didn't even meet him. There is group work but if you have a good group or atleast one good person you should be fine. Take him!! :)
Dr. Gorsich is an amazing professor. His podcasts explain everything but make sure to set aside at least 1 hour to watch them. You sit in a group for lectures and use InteDashboard for daily points. Pay attention to small details for daily quizzes. There is a group portion of the exam and an online portion. Exams are straight forward.
I took BIO 211 with Dr. Gorsich online. I was very apprehensive to take it online, but Dr. Gorsich was so good about working with students to get through all the growing pains of transitioning to online. He is so awesome, and you can tell he truly wants you to succeed. 10/10 would recommend taking a class with Dr. Gorsich!
I signed my major with Gorsich, and even then I knew I had to take a class with him. Genetics isn't easy, but Dr. Gorsich's enthusiasm for it made the class enjoyable. It's flipped like BIO112, and each exam consists of a group exam and an individual exam. Textbook is quite dense, but that and the homework is what helped me out in terms of exams.
Great professor, always willing to help students, and is a quality professor. Would recommend him for any class he is teaching.
the best professor that i had freshman year. he taught me so much and is so kind.
Dr. Gorsich is a great professor. I would definitely take a class with him if you have the chance. He's very respectable, he cares about his class, he's funny, and he makes sure that you understand what is being taught
Steven is the best prof I have had so far at CMU. He is so funny and he's willing to work with you if you start falling behind. His style of teaching is great if you just go with it you will learn so much.
Dr. Gorsich made this class really enjoyable! He makes an effort to reach out to students and make class fun. The style of the class (watching a premade video before class) was really helpful for learning the material. If you have the chance to take a class with Dr. Gorsich I would highly suggest it.
Dr. Gorsich is an amazing professor and honestly, I don't think you can do better for BIO 111. He obviously cares so much about the students and the way he sets up the class makes it more engaging and makes the material easier to remember. This class was my favorite class by far this semester.
I LOVE Dr. Gorsich. He posts lectures for you to watch before class, and then you participate in groups during lecture to help further your understanding, which was so so helpful. He is a funny and cool guy who genuinely cares about his students. He has a great teaching style, and he makes it easy to interact in class. I would definitely recommend.
such an amazing professor! he is so engaging and makes the class a lot of fun! what I will say is if you are going to take bio111 with him, just know that you will have a quiz 3 times a week, and you have to watch the videos he puts out before class or the quizzes will not be easy for you. other than that, it's a great class, 10/10 recommend!
You have to watch the lectures outside of class and discuss the lectures in class, but you barely have other out of class work, so it makes up for it. The class was overall helpful, and I feel like I retained information from this class more than I have from any other class. Some of the exams have shocking questions, but study and you'll succeed.
I loved Gorsich! He was amazing and caring. HW/lectures done outside class, group work done inside class. DO NOT buy textbooks (besides lab manual) you will never ever use them! Lots of material and all work done outside class on your own time. Attendance is absolutely mandatory and worth 40pts a day. Labs are DREADFUL if you have a bad TA
Overall awesome person AND teacher. Willing to help you with anything, makes learning an experience rather than memorization. I honestly don't love group heavy classes, but the way his class was set up helped me learn. Watch the lectures, take good notes, and participate in class. It's not hard to succeed. I wish all professors were like him!
Dr. Gorsich is amazing. Inclusive, super fun guy, gets everyone involved. Great attitude, and you know he loves his job. Makes every class awesome.
This was my 2nd time having Gorsich as a prof. Overall, he is still a great prof and I would recommend him, but he seemed to be a bit harder with things in this course than the last time I had him.
I love Gorsich! Take him if you can. I will say that if your group is bad, that stinks. There's a lot of group work. But Gorsich teaches well, and you can adapt it to your learning style. Personally, I'd watch the videos and fill out the note guide, only occasionally referencing the book. There's also opportunities for extra credit. 10/10
Dr. Gorsich is a great professor. He teaches in the flip classroom style, which I liked so I could take notes at my own pace. All the class is in groups, so if you get a good group you'll have a good time. He is fun and gives bonus questions about him and bonus points for exams. If you study and watch the videos, you'll do fine.
Gorsich is a good professor and his assignments are pretty straightforward. He does take a while to respond to emails but other than that the class isn't too bad.
Awesome professor, I've had him for BIO 111 and BIO 211 and he's probably my favorite professor yet. Flipped-style classroom that he executes well. Isn't the best with responding to emails sometimes but he's a busy guy. I'd totally recommend taking him
Dr. Gorsich is so funny and is a great professor! His class is set up so lectures and notes are taken outside of class, which was different, but helped me learn the material a lot better! I highly recommend him for this class!
Steve really sets you up to pass but you have to put in the effort. You get what you put in. The exams are lengthy but study guides were provided. Lectures are entertaining and provide good information. His podcasts for note taking were super helpful and easy to learn from. Overall good professor if you try. Don't come to class and you won't pass
I was dreading this class but Gorsich made it both fun and interesting! You need to put the work in and study (don't skip class or the podcasts) but if you try you will do well! It is a flipped class so lectures outside of class but reading is optional and I never did it. Class time is more group/activity-based. Sounds weird but helped me learn!
Dr. Gorsich is an amazing prof. who seems to care if his students understand the material. He tries his best to dumb down difficult concepts so everyone understands the course well. The exams require a decent amount of studying, luckily he provided different practice problems to go over. On the other hand, the lab for this course is very stressful.
Awesome Professor! Watch the videos beforehand and take the notes he writes; they aren't overwhelming and really help. Extra credit given on exams, curves them too. Very funny, wants everyone to succeed. Group work for most of it, be nice to your team, and pull your weight (gives the option to change)
