he is terrible! take my advice and run! the class average was a 50 and the moron doesn't even curve!! he is extremely **** and he needs to go to shool over again. he tries to pull one over all students who are not chemistry majors. good luck if u take him
v hard professor DON'T TAKE HIM AT ALL. he throws stuff all over and is v disorganized gives notes for class so students don't understand anything and literally sleep never curves ur exams and is v hard even though gave me a B but still don't take him
Let's face it, Organic Chemistry is the hardest course in the University...However if you have to take it Graham GIVES you a packet of typed notes for each chapter is willing to help in his office. Grades are low but you can still get a good grade.
give him a chance. may b confusin sometimes, but he does explain things over. dont judge a book by its cover
I'm taking him as a recitaion teacher and he is def NOT helping me for lecture at ALL like he's supposed to. He'll teach, say, chapter 10 that day and then have a quiz on chapter 8 for no good reason. THIS is why I have a 55 in his class. You can tell he knows his stuff but can't teach recitation
not as bad as i thought, org is hard no matter what teacher u take, just be on top of ur stuff and ur good, hes very helpful and i was surprised that his class wasnt that bad, dont be scared
difficult class no matter what but he is not very helpful and is not a nice guy so that makes it worse i wouldn't take him again
before taking him i heard bad reviews but they aren't true! he's helpful, knows what he is teaching, teaches well and curves gernerously. he gave 17 pt curve on the final! what more can u ask 4? it is orgo chem , its not meant 2 b ez, u have 2 work ur ass 4 that B or A. all in all hes a good prof.
HE is awful
Very good
well as said previously, the class is hard no matter who u take..but he needs to curve atleast a little on his exams...just study hard..ull do fine..
avoid this class at all costs.
For the love of you GPA do not take him. He is a liar ppl spoke to him about their grades and He said the lowest he gives is a C so there no need to Pass/fail. That was a lie cause mad people got F's. He doesn't teach he just reads from those stupid slides. Orgo is hard but Graham just makes it wors
knows the stuff, give good and easy notes so u don't have to read the book. and his tests are so easy. i would recommend him the best over all the other professors even Cesare.
horrible teacher, he knows his stuff but he cant teach he's smart but once again he can't teach for his life, he gives notes so that you can just fall asleep in class and even if u stay awake it makes no sense because he just reads over his notes and adds some more notes.. avoid at all cost literally horrible teacher although hes a nice guy canttea
horrible teacher avoid at all cost if possible take cesar or anyone else cesar should be teaching fall 06 so if u have an opportunity to drop i suggest it!!! graham can't teach no curves absolutely horrible!
He is a smart professor but reads off his notes in lectures (that he also gives out) and he is boring. So either way, just hope your GPA is not going to drop or study your butt off.
he is hard and he can;t teach. he is a difficult A, but if you study hard a B is obtainable
You print his notes and bring them to class which he goes over them with you. He is a lil boring but I understand him when he talks but I heard his exams are tough
OH GOD please, someone get me out of here!! I hate chem. He makes me hate it more. But, i think he is availible to help if you want it...so right on
Organic chem isnt meant to be easy but this prof just makes you hate it more. As soon as class begins make sure u have his notes and are ready to go, plus procrastination will cost you big in this class so watch out. If option please take Caesare.
absolutely the worst when it comes to actually LEARNING in class; you basically print out notes and fill in answers - the learning all happens en tu casa.
He is horrible as a professor. If you can choose another professor do so. If not then you will need to study A LOT and possibly get a tutor if that helps. Exams are extremely hard but then again organic chemistry is hard.
He rushes through his notes and does not stop to thouroughly explain anything. organic is hard but he makes it impossible. when u get through the class you'll realize if u had a better teacher u would probably do better because your are teaching yourself. organic is hard but it depends how hard on the teacher
If you are able to take another professor please do so because he will make your average suffer big time. If possible read the chapters during the recess. N dont mess up the first test and or the second because the final wont help you at all, since it was challenging (not impossible) but challenging.
well jus know the notes in n out..even though ur gonna have 2 teach them 2 urself...tests come straight from the notes..i dont think its impossible to get an A..remember practice practice practice n also go 2 him during office hrs n he'll see ur trying n he'll boost ur grade up n plz dont mess the 1st test up its very doable atleast break a 85
Dr. Graham is very smart, but in class he rushes, which means that you have to teach yourself. Organic is hard in the first place, and teaching it to yourself is even harder. He is willing to help you after class, but if you get him at the wrong time he may scare you away. Don't worry, just study, there are only three tests so you can't mess up
Organic is hard in the first place. Graham doesn't make it any easier. There are 2 other professors to choose from. Believe me go for them.
Dr. Graham is a good professor. His exams are based strictly from his notes. You learn a lot from him. I wouldn't recommend this class if you're lazy. He may have a weird personality but that's just the way he is. Go to him during office hours it does help.
I don't know why ppl think he's a bad teacher, he helps gives ways to understand problems. He is a better teacher than Cesare. His tests are straight from his notes, so jus study his notes in and out. Prepares you for tests better than Cesare. better prepares you for the MCats. Gives xtra credit on exams unlike cesare and curves at the end.
Graham's tests are easier than Caesar's because he only offers four answers. If you go to class, he tells you what is on the tests, so make sure you attend. Too much information to cover in one semester though. Overall, not bad at all.
Dr. Graham is definitely one of the better teachers you can have for the general chemistry and organic chemistry. He is very clear on what he instructs, and is very easy to listen to. His tests are all from his notes, which are very helpful both to learn and study.
Great professor. Really cares about his students, and will try his best to make sure you understand instead of just giving you the answer. Tests are multiple choice, 25 questions. No curve or extra credit. Tests are straight from notes.
im sure many of you have already heard this before but, horrible! dont take! if you can take ceasar take him instead!!! this guy doesnt care ab his students, doesnt curve, and if your already taking him drop ASAP!
He is a truly good teacher and help students so much. He always work so hard for us. He is always present in class on time. He made us to solve our problems by ourselves. He is very coeperative. He always made us to participate in class. He is not boring so, i never fall a sleep in class. He made me like this class. As a teacher he is super.
u just wrote a good review cuz u got an A because of coming to him everyday with questions, am I wrong? He gives higher grades to those who he likes no matter their scores on the tests. how messed up is that?
gives us notes with blanks that we fill out in class, then he posts the filled out notes so there's no reason to come to class, tests are hard and easy to fail, don't take his class if you can avoid it, I had no choice... people cheat on his tests and I cant believe he don't see it, he just doesn't want to...
In my opinion he is a horrible professor. He was the only teacher that was offered this past year. I wouldn't take him again if my life depended on it. I loved chemistry and he completely crushed my world! I worked so hard and for nothing. He told me not to worry about my grade and he ended up giving the same grade as the previous semester. He grad
SO HARD!! He is not a good teacher. He goes through everything and then just skips stuff and says look at the notes online. He has a stupid method that uses us a lab rats. And it's stupid and is just confusing. Take a diff teacher PLEASE!
Don't take his class. I want to learn, not participate with no knowledge. He wants us to participate instead of learn. He should show us how to do the work, not walk around the room to see how useful or useless we are. He gives poor instructions and what he teaches goes through one ear and out the other. Avoid at all cost.
i had him last year, and i was dreading him from all of the comments here. he ended up being not that bad! just go to class and pay attention to what he says, the notes that he gives are far better than the textbook. also, go to his office hours! work problems out with him, especially before the exams. if you can do the practice exams you're set.
Dr graham is a really great prof. his exams are not hard if u understand the basic concepts and he doesnt try to trick u. his quizzes might be a little overwhelming but they keep u studying and knowing where u r going wrong and need help. highly recommend going to see him during office hours. its an invaluable source of help for a trying course.
His lectures are very clear and engaging. He gives a quiz at the beginning of each class, they count for very little part of your grade but really help a lot showing you what you need to study up on. As long as you put in an honest effort he will like you and try to help you out. I went in this class dreading it but ended up loving it b/c of him
Stay as far away as possible from this professor. He is like a persons worst night mare. no matter how hard you work he will never keep that in consideration. the worst grader.hes a GPA Dropperrrrr. Take my advice and take Dr.Ceasar i never had him but the man is amazing. Stay away from him m not even joking
The worst professor at St.Johns. Should not be teaching
Those who wrote bad comments clearly do not understand the subject material. Orgo is not an easy subject-there are no "easy As". You obviously have to do well on your exams to do well in the course, duh. Isn't that how it always works? Why should anyone receive special consideration? Anyway, this guy is one of the best professors at SJU-TAKE HIM.
definitely not an easy A. underestimating him cost me big
talk about someone who needs a serious lesson in health and hygiene. this guy should take public health. needs it more than i do. thanks for totally F-ING up xmas 09 for me Grinch
this is honestly the worst professor ever. i don't know of one person in my class who has one good thing to say about him. try to switch out or consider dropping the class no joke. if you do happen to pass it will kill your gpa b/c you'll get a D
not a good choice, he thinks hes cool counting fish but it doesnt come on the exam =P does not teach anything useful. clicker quizes are easy btw...
Horrible professor. doesnt care about students progression and 1/2 the kids failed both his impossible midterm and final or withdrew.
not a good choice. he makes us participate with no knowledge. can be rude and annoying to deal with sometimes. personally i wouldnt take him again
LOL if you have this professor I extremely pity you. you might as well get a D or an F or just go home. If your borderline just switch out or take a summer course. he doesnt curve
Disregard all positive ratings about this guy. He's obviously coming onto this site and writing them himself. Hes trying to mislead you into taking him, just like the devil tempted jesus for 40 days and 40 nights. if you do get stuck with him and may the lord god save you, my best advice would be to GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT
simply stated. the worst of the worst in sju
I just hate this class, it was like prison every time i went, your better off just reading the book then getting his notes. If u wanna take him, then you must REALLY love chem
Apologized for giving us an unfair first test and said, "don't worry about it." How can we not? Our last test and final are on organic chemistry which is the hardest. How can we not care about him not teaching us properly and giving unfair tests? He's playing with our grades here! Completely unfair. He doesn't care for his students. Worst teacher.
Had him for recitation spring 09'. I still keep thinking that Ashton Kutcher is gonna run out and tell us we've all been punk'ed and he can't believe we actually believed that it is even POSSIBLE that such a professor exists. Or perhaps all of his classes are on MTV's Boiling Point for the entire semester? So maybe we'll win some money at the end
Wow the ppl that wrote the good ratings are obviously either himself, or his personnal favorites that he spared from failure. Disregard these fake adulations. its sad how some ppl deny that he shouldNT be teaching. but then again it is human nature to deny reality. HEY! I think i actually learned something from philosophy of human nature. XD :)
his class was really and interesting, he is a bit intimidating but he does it for your own good so u can truly learn, while studyin for the mcats ive remembered a lot of what he taught us in class and im glad i took him
He's not so terrible that he wants failure. I never went to class and barely studied but did fine. FYI: Brown creates all the tests so just know people in Brown's classes and get help from them. Also, if you've taken AP chem before, you should be fine for the general chemistry portion.
never ever freaking again. it was a mistake to register for this
Graham should just crawl under a rock and live out the rest of his days there. can't teach, hes so mean, obviously hates his students and everyone hates him.
i had graham and he was really helpful. dont look at the comments before because it is not true. he is always ready to explain if you have a question and he explains everything really well especially in orgo.
He is really nice. Definitely take him! He makes everything really interactive so that we understand it better. His notes are really helpful too.
TAKE HIM! he is nice. im not sure why someone said he was horrible. he is very helpful especially in recitation. i actually learned more in recitation with him than lecture. i would definitely take him again for orgo.
Doctor Graham is the best! He is really helpful and explains everything really well! He gives typed up notes which is great; love him!
GRAHAM IS THE MAN!
Definitely take him! he's the best !
I love graham. he makes sure that we leave class understanding the material taught.
makes chemistry so much harder than it should be. Theres no evading him, he puts his own question on everyone test whether you have him or not. Makes reciatation so much harder than it was. The question he makes are confusing and makes everyones' lives a living hell.
Dr. Graham is a good guy. He likes to help any student who is willing to learn and makes his notes really detailed so you fully understand the material. He puts a lot of effort into his job and does it well. I highly recommend taking Dr. Graham if you want to do well in chemistry, his notes tell you exactly what you need to know for the exams!
graham is one of the best profs i ever had at st johns. he goes out of his way to help students via office hours (in person and online). he has a quiz everyday which should only help your grade if you try even a little. dont miss class. his tests are simple and he gives great notes that are available later online if u did miss. take him for orgo.
He is one of the most outgoing professors I've ever had. He's extremely helpful if you don't understand. How he explains concepts makes them easy to remember too. His class seems to fly by because the activity level keeps you on your toes. You fail if you don't go to class or try. You fail quizzes or the class if you don't stay at the class's pace.
First of all, orgo will NEVER be an easy class. That being said, Graham is a very helpful and approachable professor. Quizzes before every class but don't be put off by that...it'll keep you studying and make sure you're not cramming before the test. Powerpoints are easy to follow and tests are relatively straight-forward.
I found his class very helpful. Prior to his class people told me he was hard, but I don't see it at all. I think people mistake his techniques as hard stuff. But, he broke down the material more than other professors did. However, I do have to say that he required more work from us in return. Like mini pre-class quizzes.
He's a very great professor, yes he knows the subject as if its his life. He's very helpful but this is the most stressful classs ever and he just makes it even more stressful. If you can take Ceasar, take him. The things we learned in class were useless and we'll forget after. Save your sanity and gpa. Do not take this man
This guy has absolutely no business being a teacher. Half the time his back is to the class looking at notes he didn't even write and the rest of the time you can't even hear him. Talks down to students and basically puts as little work as possible into helping us out. His info conflicts with what you read in the book so watch out for that
Had him back in 2nd yr. This guy ruined my entire summer back then- He cant teach orgo, and he totally sucks at gen chem also. He cant teach, doesnt explain sh*t,he himself doesnt know what the F he is talking about and reads directly off his stupid notes. Wish I had chosen a class that had Cesare or Brown. All pharmacy majors- AVOID IN 1ST+2ND YR
Dr. Graham cares that we're prepared to get to the next level; whether it be graduate school or med school. He cares enough to handwrite his own notes, go through everything with us, provide practice exams, and see us during office hours. To the person who said pharmacy students avoid, maybe you shouldn't be in pharmacy school. Graham is the man.
Very fair professor. Chem is a hard subject & there's no point in blaming him for it. I'd recommend acing the 1st two gen chem exams so if you don't do as well for the 3rd orgo it won't affect your grade as much. The practice exams (his, not the ones he posts from other profs) are very much similar to the actual ones he gives out. An A is possible
He is a really good professor, good at teaching, and over a good guy. For those who don't like him, it is probably because you don't pay attention in class. If you do, there is a big chance you do well in the mid-term and finals which highly influenced by Graham...
Play it safe, graham is not a great teacher but he is certainly not the worst. If he is the only announced teacher just take him, there are alot worse teachers out there.
Very smart professor and teaches his class very well. Yes, there are quizzes before every class and clicker questions during class. Attendance is mandatory to pass. The quizzes are not that bad and prepare you for that days class and the exam. He is very approachable and always willing to help if you need it. I would recommend him.
Okay so I had 2 years ago and I have to say, he's a fair and good teacher. I had an F by midterms, studied my butt off for the next 2 tests, and managed to get a C+ according to syllabus. He bumped it up to a B. If you pay attention from day 1, and if you don't procrastinate you'll do well. My mistake was procrastinating. He's a fair decent teacher
posts the recitation homeworks so late. its ridiculous. please get yourself together. you posting the homework so late is not benefiting the students at all.
There's a big difference between being smart and being able to teach. Just because one has good credentials doesn't making him a good professor. I'm sorry, but you may be very smart, but the ability to teach is in significant need of improvement.
Some say Prof Grahams notes are all you need to pass the class. This is completely false, his notes are really confusing and yes, he is a very smart man, but he is not a good teacher. All class he fills in his notes and doesn't tell you where or why these things happen or where they come from. Very confusing.
He's not the worst professor out there. Being lead in the orgo department makes it beneficial to be his student. But I wouldn't take him if i had to. He expects that we've all read the ch before each class, which encompasses around 0.001% of the class. so no reading ?? during class, but if you do read, lectures are very enlightening :)
although he explains well. i didn't like the fact that he posted homeworks so late and the due dates were like the day after or we were given 2-3 days to complete it. but it did benefit in learning the material at a better level. remember to complete the hw or he takes off points!
This class is hard no matter who you have. He gives quizzes every class that do not hurt your grade and they help you learn. Same deal with the homework. He does his best to help you learn on your own which is really the only way to get the material. I chose to take him for Orgo 2 because while he is a lot of work I liked him and enjoyed his class!
First off, if his tests "were fair and easy" and if he was "the best professor" like some lunatics here claim, would majority of the ppl who rate him here have given him below a 3.0/5.0 rating?
No help here. Say what? Hardest thing Ive ever done
Why does he even have office hours? He does nothing to help his students. What a waste
Yea I just took Graham and had As in all my other science class and didn't do the same in this class. He does not curve final grades a lot at all. Seeing that In the end makes me really regret taking him. Definitely take any other professor for orgo. He makes you work hard all semester but doesn't help you out that much in final grade. AVOID!!!
What world does he live in? In class, he teaches chapter 8 and then gives a quiz on chapter 10 for no reason. Are you effing serious?! Is this guy trying to play with our bank accounts here? They need to take guys like Steve off SJU's payroll and maybe students will learn more, not to mention the school will have a better rep. Every1 hates him
Graham is the BEST chemistry prof you will ever have. everyone in my class did great in his class and everyone loves him .He made organic chemistry so easy to understand, his notes were a big help. Do expect to have homework a couple times a week (which helps a lot),there is also a GROUP quiz every class, so its easy. Highly recommend taking him.
Wow, Dr. Graham. Did you seriously just write your own review? Don't believe the good ones folks. I can assure you he is not a good professor. Knows plenty of chemistry but cannot teach it. I'm sorry professor but you need to realize your teaching methods are ineffective and change. Micheal
I honestly cant even tell you what the purpose of a single class was. All he does is write random nonsense in notes that he didn't even write, and then pulls questions out of the sky for the tests. I cant express my anger enough over this class, wish I can sue him and get my tuition money back. He has absolutely no business being a teacher.
ORGANIC CHEMISTRY ITSELF IS HARD, so don't put it all on the professor. Grow up and take responsibilities for your actions. Dr. Graham's tests are multiple choice, so it's either you know the answer or not. You control your own grade. Read a little bit each night and you'll be fine. Assignments are a pain, but they'll help you learn and your grade.
He's really big on mechanisms, so KNOW YOUR MECHANISMS! There are at least 4 or 5 of them on each test. Go to class and actually pay attention. There are group quizzes which help a lot and he goes around the class and help each group. I have Dr. Cesare right now for Orgo II and comparing the two, I'd rather have Dr. Graham. You'll learn a lot.
Take any other Organic Chem professor available and save your gpa
Organic chemistry is hard as it is, and Graham just makes it harder. Take Cesar and get an A instead...
Seriously take him instead of Cesare!!! The first exam grade average for the class was a 76 and Cesare's was about a 50 Graham prepares you for the exams really well, he gives about 5 practice exams for each test! And the actual exam is very similar to his practice. Also, if you pay attention in class, everything he teaches will make sense Take him
He has such a great sense of humor! He always tries to prepare us for exams as best as he can! He even prints out packets for the whole class. The exams are almost identical to his practice exams. I only studied from the practice exams and got an 84 on the first exam! You will not regret taking Graham
He gives you so many resources to understand the material. He gives a quiz everyday but it really helped. He gives at least 4 different practice exams before an exam. He's low-key funny and he really wants us to do good.
Dr. Graham is the best professor you can have for Organic Chemistry, hands down. His notes are very clear and his methods and techniques are so helpful when it comes to learning the subject. He gives a ton of practice exams that are representative of his actual exams. Definitely take Dr. Graham.
Yo Graham, do you not have anything better to do than come onto this site and rate yourself 5 stars? Dont believe any of the positive ratings folks, he knows his stuff but cant teach at all/ I did better in the upper level chem courses (biochem, medchem) than i did here in orgo.
Graham gives you all the materials you need to learn about Organic Chemistry. He does assign A LOT of homework but it helps a lot when it comes to studying. Also he gives several practice exams before each test and the test is pratically just like all the exams in one.
Do not take Graham. He is literally the worst professor ever. He is beyond condesending to his students, if you get a question wrong he will make sure that the whole class knows. If you do not learn the exact way he teaches goodluck because he will not clear anything up for you. Its either his way or the highway.
Dr. Graham was the best professor I had at St. John's. His quizzes help you understand the subject a lot and helps you study daily for his class. He posts practice exams that are similar to his actual exams. He wants you to succeed in a hard subject so do your best, because he is there to help.
All of the comments with Graham looking good and helpful are honestly the sickest types of lies. He is beyond the worst professor its sad. I don't understand why st. johns doesn't have good chem professors. Graham gave lots of hw and it wasn't even helpful, the quizzes were not helpful either. He is also never available for office hrs.
If you are given the Graham as the last option for organic chemistry, then go to another professor for tutoring. Go to tutoring in St. augustine hall or the tutoring in 346 but avoid him at all costs. I went to other professors and that is how I passed my orgo classes.
Its not Crockers fault orgo is hard. Its not his fault yall failed. Orgo is hard and takes a lot of practice and consistent reading and practice problems to fully understand. Its difficult but its not his fault. IF you can train your brain to learn like his then youll be fine.
Basically, if you don't put in the work necessary for this class, don't expect an A. Orgo is obviously a challenging subject and therefore you must work EXTRA hard. Practice problems are key to doing well in this course and if you still don't get it, seek help. go to tutoring.
Listen up. None of the orgo prof at sju r good but graham is the best of the 2. a lot of hw, quizzes, clickers. theres a lot of stuff here to help ur grade dat ceaser dont have. pull up to office hrs if u can. u have to want to understand orgo. read the notes, and practice EVERYDAY. start early. U gon be mad at urself for not working hard enough DA
Graham is THE BEST Orgo prof at SJU. YOU NEED TO DO EVERYTHING HE SAYS FOR EVERY PROBLEM! He makes up easy acronyms to make Orgo 100% easier & if you do exactly what he says for every problem, you are golden!! STUDY HIS NOTES and ask him if you do not get it. Just put the time in! Get a new major if you don't wanna work for the A bc it's DOABLE.
It's not his fault Organic Chemistry is a hard class, that's just how the course was built. You have to study and learn the material before attending class, or you will fall behind. Take my advice and buy a one year subscription to clutch prep. They will give you practice exams and lessons tailored for this Professor. There is a quiz every lecture.
Dr. Graham is very clear and upfront in the beginning. The class is not hard if you listen to what he has to say and follow his way of doing things down to the annoying lone pairs. He BEATS the information into you with quizzes and homework. If you're looking to take the easy way out, do not take him. If you are looking to learn, take him.
this man doesnt care about the students. when i was asking to potentially withdraw from the course because i did badly on one test, he seemed so happy. he actually wanted me to withdraw!! he doesnt explain anything properly, and his packets are extremely long and tedious, same goes for the quizzes and homework. absolute worst class at sju.
Dr. Graham simplifies the textbook through his own written notes which he provides for students. I got an A from strictly using his notes. He makes OChem understood better through his mechanism and shortcuts. When you understand the way something works, you won't have to memorize it!Dedicate time everyday to write out his notes and put in the work!
Ochem is hard. Do what he says the way he says to, go to class, do your homework study the lectures and practice tests, and you'll be fine. As long as you put in what's expected of you, you will do well in the class . I had a different professor for orgo 1, and Dr. Graham was way better . Highly recommend
A lot of people don't like him because there's a quiz EVERY class and his notes are excessive but he really does know what he's doing and he's a good teacher. He can be really rude but I would definetely take him over the other professor and tell anyone I know to do so.
I took him for ochem1&2. He's okay.90 is an A. He has quizzes that help ur grade (in groups). In class participation also helps ur grade. Being online for COVID-19, he was rude. Didnt care about a pandemic & said stop asking for E.C. Thinks too highly of himself. Said 'do you really think grad schools will care if you get a C instead of a P?' uhyes
Its Orgo, its hard. But graham makes it the best it can be. Quizzes every day but almost all are in groups. He gives multiple practice exams for each test. A 90 is an A so it is very obtainable. Idk why there are so many bad reviews. I had him for Orgo 1 and 2 and I really enjoyed him. Lab is worth 25% of your grade so do well in that!
Graham is a really good professor for chem. He's really strict about grading but it helps in remembering chemistry rule for future exams. He's really upfront about how everything affects your grade so when he gives pointers and advice about being on top of things, it really helps. I struggled for ochem 1, but I managed to get an A- for ochem 2.
Aside from his sadistic emails and his overpowering/assertive demeanor, Prof. Graham is actually a very nice man, and an excellent professor. MAKE SURE you ALWAYS review his notes, because it breaks down all of the important information from the textbook (which isn't necessary). I do not regret taking this classespecially with Prof. Graham.
It's Orgo, it's hard. That being said, Dr. Graham is def better than Romu, Brown, Cesare, Carberry, and Stringle. For one he actually teaches the material in a way that is conducive to understanding the concepts instead of brute memorization. He also has a very manageable workload and reasonable grading policies. He is a nice, lowkey funny guy.
dr. graham is really helpful in understanding orgo. his pre recorded lectures are kinda boring but they're really informative. to get credit, you need to watch his lectures by 12pm on fridays. there are weekly quizzes that are pretty difficult but he explains some of the questions in his lectures. take him if you wanna understand orgo!!
If you want an A you REALLY have to work for it. Compared to all the other orgo professors he's definitely the fairest. Two midterms and the final. A lot of extra stuff in the syllabus to help boost your grade. Gives a lot of practice material/tests so go to the free university tutoring for things you dont understand. Clutchprep helped a lot too.
Horrible uptight professor who needs to get a life. So rude and aggressive for what? Chemistry? couldnt be me .... this guy acts like this class is life and death. Pathetic
Very strict and uptight. Weekly recitation quizzes on Friday, assigned even during breaks. Weekly videos to watch on Canvas, and if the system says you didn't watch it, he wouldn't give you the credit for it (even if you watched them)
TAKE GRAHAM FOR ORGO!!! had him for both orgo 1&2 and i absolutely love him. gives lots of opportunity to boost grade and grades very fairly. group quizzes every class but drops lowest 6. gives practice exams before every test and almost always recycles a few questions. Orgo is a hard subject on its own but graham definitely makes it a lot better.
I really regret not taking professor graham for orgo 1. He is the best orgo professor. I got a D for orgo 1 with another professor. I took orgo 2 with professor Graham and got an A-. He is super patient and willing to help everyone. He also gives opportunities to boost ur grade. However, you must do your part and take advantage of his help.
heres what ive concluded about this guy. he's better than victor cesare that's for sure but def not a walk in the park. course was : hw due every class, hw end of chapter, lecture videos for credit, pollev questions during lecture, and quizzes every class. suggest tutor and practice problems. he has more things to his grading than any other prof.
Professor Graham is the best for orgo compared to other professors at sju. Orgo in itself is very very difficult, however, professor graham explains the lectures and he gives so many opportunities to boost your grade like group quizzes(drops 6), poll questions, homework, etc. His tests can be extremely difficult, just study hard and you'll be fine
Graham is very passionate about chemistry and really cares about his students, enough to learn everyones last name by 2nd class. Gives SOO many opportunities to boost your grade. The practice tests he gives will save you for the real tests. Best orgo professor out of them all. But still need to put in a lot of effort to do well. Really recommend
Awful professor, seemed happy that the class average for exam 2 was 56 oh and of course, no curve was given, this man does not want to see you succeed. Didn't offer help by offering office hours. His notes are super confusing he makes up his own language and makes exams 10x more difficult than practice exams. STAY AWAY if you care about GPA.
Had Stringle for Orgo 1, then took Graham for Orgo 2. The difference in teaching ability was huge. This guy knows what he's talking about. Group quizzes help your grade a lot. Plus a 90 is an A compared to other orgo professors where a 93 is an A. Graham is kinda scary so I never really approached him but he's a good prof.
I am taking Graham again for Orgo 2 because he is the best Orgo professor out of them all. Organic Chem will always be hard but it is up to you to put the work in. He is a funny and understanding guy but he makes you work for the grades. There are a lot of things that boost your grades so it isn't too bad. Take him.
His class sucks some major D just like he does. If hes on your schedule swap out asap
I have taken this professor for both orgo I & II, I recieved both A's in the course. If you are a hard worker and you are willing to put in the work then this is the professor for you. This professor is much better than all the other professors and gives alot opportunities to boost your grade. Make sure you do well on lab and your first 2 exams.
Professor Graham is a good professor he really knows a lot about orgo. I had him for both 1 and 2 and the class is definitely not easy. There is a lot of work and the tests are pretty difficult. The nice part about his course is that you aren't graded on just exams, there is room to boost your grade which helped me a lot.
ppl saying that he's writing his own reviews: I'm pretty sure he doesn't care lol. if I was a prof, I wouldn't have that much time on my hands. anyway, I'm on the 3rd week of orgo1 and he's bad at all. the lectures are fast and a little confusing, so I'm doing a lot of self studying rn thru khan and other sources. but his syllabus is v fair.
As a kid, Graham was probably a beta male nerd that was bullied all the time and never had a girlfriend. Thats why he came a "teacher" so he can torture this generation's youth. When he retires he'll end up in an asylum where he belongs
The recent negative reviews seem to be written by the same individual. I personally find his class to be not that bad. He gives quizzes every class but the overall quiz grade is only 50/1000 of the entire grade (yes 1000). He provides a brief intro lecture before every class so students would know what to be prepare for.
The recent positive reviews were all likely written by the same person (most likely SG himself). Cant understand for the life of me why anyone would have such a hardon for guys like this that dont give a single F about the students
why is everyone saying bad stuff? if you aren't doing well in the class, that's not graham's fault. he gives us a ton of resources to do well in class. though the lectures and quizzes might be a little much, at least i'm learning. i actually understand what is going on and i feel great that i'm doing well in a class that everyone speaks bad about.
Why is "everyone" saying good stuff? 100+ negative ratings cant be coincidence. Bet my life savings this clown is writing the good ratings himself
i actually understand what is going on and i feel great that i'm doing well in a class that everyone speaks bad about. FOH To the moron who wrote this yea this class doesnt mean jack sh*t- nobody uses what this clown "teaches" once youre all out in the real world.
Graham is okay. If you're passionate about chemistry like he is- you will 100% love his class and his lectures. His lectures are a bit long & confusing at times, but if you put in the work, you'll be fine with chemistry. He goes out of his way to tutor his students, so he does care. The only thing I don't like is his night exams.
He is a good professor, but he does have an old-school mindset and teaches undergrad as if it's grad school which is a downside. He expects you to know the material when you're coming into class. He assigns a video to watch before every class. I take tutoring which is the reason I'm not completely failing. He's good but you have to put in the work.
to all the people giving him bad comments - they simply aren't trying, and that's not the professor's fault. anyways, orgo is hard itself, yes his lectures can be a lot at times but it's your job to go over and teach it yourself, go to tutoring, reach out to him if you don't understand something. if you go over it and study, you'll be fine
The material is hard. You can not get by if you do not study. I really suggest going above and beyond by searching up practice questions while studying because the exams are very difficult and require more than memorization. These other reviews are doing too much, just do your work and you will survive.
Going above and beyond my arse. This isnt walgreens wtf. Why go above and beyond for a worthless class like this when this sob wont go above and beyond for you
Who cares about this lunatic being "low key funny and nice". Your folks aint paying this sh*t university all that $$$ so you can be entertained kiddies. And once yall are out there in the real world its all about who you know not what you know
Grahams duties- sits and eats in his office all day long, writes retarded exams on stuff he never taught, curses out student s 24/7
It's orgo. It's obviously not going to be easy. Prof Graham gives exams that are very similar to his practice exams and is very good in office hours. Graham's lectures are alright. Gives homework, online PQ (in class), and quizzes to boost your average. A 90 is an A.
All the previous green ratings within the past few months are fake lol. Lie harder Stevie :)) sh*t quality professor pumping fake ratings
graham is amazing. i feel like his class pushed me to learn orgo and that's especially good since most of y'all are going into medicine or research. his office hours are SO helpful. one thing I gotta say is that his style of orgo is uncommon (uses analogies that are unique to his lectures) and also DONT let the bad ratings scare you!! take him :)
whoever keeps deflating his ratings claiming that graham is writing these reviews: are you serious LOL? he can claim his page by clicking "I'm professor graham" and then take down reviews if he wanted to. you're spreading negativity because you dont understand the material? then get off rmp and go to his office hours or tutoring. what a joke
Nice try Steve. Keep pumping out those fake 5 star ratings
Its amazing how many ratings here defame Cesare. Knew this clown was a backstabbing prick
the devil works hard but whoever's writing these negative reviews is working harder lmaoo. anyway, game over because i have ur ip address and full name lol stop deflating his reviews and go study
Theres no way any student that has a shred of common sense will take the time defending this guy when he views yall as nothing but an x number and doesnt give one F about you. Thats all the proof you need right there that hes coming on here writing them himself- explains why hes never available for office hrs.
HELPPP LMAO this person is replying to me in REAL TIME??? come to dac rn i wanna see who's behind this
He's a genuinely good professor, orgo is just hard and you really need to put in the work. like so so much effort. No curve but the other stuff like participation, homework, group quizzes add up to fluff your grade. DONT FALL BEHIND !!! it will make or break your grade! if ur smart but get a lil lazy at times, take a different prof
LMFAO at the bs green star ratings below. and hey smarta$$ why are you even sitting in DAC scrolling thru this website? Get off your laptop and study for Steves bs final. Unf***ing real how you shill
Why anyone has a hardon for guys like this that cant teach and dont give a single F about the students is beyond me. Bet yall the same losers thatll willingly donate to this sh*T university once youre alumni. BAAAHHHHHHH
Orgo is definitely a difficult course to handle. His first few quizzes were individual quizzes but after that, they were all group quizzes. Many aspects such as attendance, quizzes, and homework assignments boosted my grades even though I didn't do so well on the exams. Those practice exams really helped me learn the materials before the exams.
Professor Graham is good. His exams are all multiple choice which is amazing. His lectures are a little boring but overall understandable if you review his notes and study. Orgo is a hard subject don't blame the teacher. He helps you understand the material not just memorize the information.
He is a great professor if you want to learn the material and is terrible at undirected self-studying. He gives you all the tools you need to pass the class and get a good grade. If you watch all his lectures, take notes, and study before each exam, you will do well in class. The course is hard but doable.
This class was definitely not easy, but it was doable. Professor Graham grades you on many things such as PollEv, Homework, and Group Quizzes. You need a 90 for an A, which is better than the other teachers that require a 93. Getting an A should not be that difficult as long as you pay attention in class and do all the work he requires you to do.
To the 5 star reviewer- Steve aint gonna touch your peen pro. Maybe get off RMP, go outside and have some meaningful interactions. Constantly simping for him online isnt a way to spend life. Bold of you to assume the bad raters are from students that didnt "understand the material"- I got an A, only because I taught myself
All the comments about graham being helpful are the sickest types of lies. He is beyond condescending to the students- make one error during class he makes sure everyone else knows about it. had him during the remote online classes during covid back in '20 and he refused to give credit for the worthless online lectures even if you watched them
The good ratings are all fake and posted by trolls- bet they look and act like hunchback beta males like Randall from Recess
No student in their right mind who is being forced pay this third rate school will take the time to defend this guy-exams are retarded and unfair ;he'll just say "too bad its your fault". SG is the same chucklef*ck thatll blame the pearl harbor victims saying its their fault for not looking up in the sky and that the japanese army did nothing wrong
this man does NOT care about his students. if 90% of the class is failing, he goes "you should study harder" and proceeds to change nothing about his exams or his lectures. the most condescending and disrespectful professor on campus.
Honestly, to pass this course I had to get a tutor. Overall, he isn't a bad professor and he's a very nice person. His exams can be a little difficult.
Had this professor for two semesters, and his class is a bit hard but if you put in the work and dedication, it is not too bad. He tries to help his students by uploading videos before the class so they are able to have the information before the actual class.
Graham is very knowledgable, has in depth lectures that are recorded for you to view before class, online homework, in class quizzes (individual at first then in randomised groups), and 3 tests. He does not give extra credit. He will usually answer emails and will answer questions if you ask after class. He's nice, but you have to work for the A.
The tests were hard but honestly quite fun since you get plenty of practice exams (a lot more than other professors, some wouldn't give any at all). It's not an easy A by any means, but it's an A you can definitely earn. And without an expensive tutoring course, might I add. I was able to self study for free, and still get an A!
The 5 star reviews are probably from some chicks that slept with this guy for that A
Awesome class
His notes are really good to study from for exams. 3 exams and each one counts for 20% of your grade so there isn't as much pressure on the final exam grade. Included short response questions on exams this sem (5 on midterm and 8 on final).
God bless the next set of students taking this class bc you're in for a ride. He's def better than Cesare but he's implementing exams with short answer so no its not just MC anymore. There's a lot of stuff like quizzes and videos and PollEv questions that are such a small amount of your grade, so you better study for those exams, or you're screwed!
Professor Graham's class is challenging but rewarding. The tests are tough but you can earn a solid grade with effort - the homework, group quizzes, and unstuck AI really help. Orgo is no easy feat, but this class gives you the tools to succeed.
Best chem professor I have had in all the chemistry classes I've taking at St. John's. His teaching style really aims to teach the students and he gives practice exams that really help you prepare for the actual exams. He also has quizzes every class which can account as extra credit if you score well enough. Really learned a lot.
Took this course during one of the summer sessions from another university, although i passed and did decently, it was truly hard to learn anything at all. From what I remember it was MC exams and the averages were pretty much failing. The prof was very kind though and accesible by email for all questions I had.
Has a bad attitude, really bad.
You got to put in a lot of work into understanding his material. Get the tutors, watch the youtube videos, and make sure you know what your learning before coming into class. He's honestly a nice professor just orgo in general is very complicated.
This professor is the lesser of two. Graham isn't great, but Hall is worse. a lot of self-study. Not understandable in class. Quizzes every class. A lot of assignments for hw. Prof is rude, doesn't talk to students.
let's just say every morning as I got in my car I would never put on my seat belt! This prof made me want to rethink my entire life!
