highly recommended
Nice demeanor, knowlegeable lecturer, and easy to talk to about class-related stuff. Highly recommend.
Great guy, funny and easy to talk to - really enjoys teaching.
simple lectures, tests atraight from notes, easy to talk to during class, humorous
This guy is a great teacher. He is well organized, funny and witty. His tests can be tricky, you have to know your current events and people pretty well for them. For tests, he looks for specific phrases or words he's used during lectures so pay attention to that and the notes to get an A.

Easily the best professor I ever had. For 5 classes or so. Funny, informative, engaging, and a helluva good looking guy. ha. AND he got tenured! Nice job Greenie.
Enjoyable class, funny lecturer. Tests were tricky the way they were worded and it is entirely short answers. TAs grade everything. Learned A LOT overall.
Greene is a good guy and a good professor. He's humorous, entertaining, & knowledgeable. In the end, however, he's just another liberal professor who seeks to impose his one-sided ideologies onto his students. I thought his short answer exams were easy, but not everyone did. I never used the textbook -- he says everything you'll need to know.
Class was mostly power point, but still entertaining because he's hilariously goofy. He goes a bit fast, but is very clear and gives helpful examples. 3 tests, c.7 short answers & c.4 current events. The main problem I had was pacing & knowing the current event details. 2 straight-forward essays. Interesting & pretty simple class; awesome teacher!
Dr. Greene is awesome! Knows how to keep the lectures entertaining. Highly recommended.
great professor! lots of fun in his class.
Dr. Greene is a funny and engaging professor. His class is your basic survey of public policy. Unless it is a prerequisite, take a 400 level policy class instead. A negative aspect of the class is that Dr. Greene's class has a noticeable leftist bent. He makes no effort to disguise that fact and sometimes attacks opposing opinions.
Extremely nice man and a skilled teacher. Just one problem, he is skilled at just one side of the policy issues. You will never read a right or center-right opinion on any issue, you will never discuss other alternatives if they are not dictated from the left, and your counter opinions will be dismissed or attacked if they go against Greene.
He was very interesting and funny in the class. Most keep up with current events!
Great teacher, keeps lectures interesting. Though not mandatory to attend class, I enjoyed going anyway.
Professor Greene is easily one of my favorite professors so far in college. Despite his clearly liberal views, he teaches in a very fair manner that does not make anyone feel alienated. Highly recommend for any class he teaches.
This guy is probably the most engaging professor that I have had during my time at NC State. He is extremely intelligent and knows a lot about what he is teaching. His class is very relaxed and he often lightens the mood with some relevant Youtube videos or off the cuff humor. Probably the best you could do for a Poli Sci Prof at NCSU.
Great teacher! He's really funny and knows his stuff really well. Not afraid to admit it when he doesn't know the answer to a question, but will look it up for you. He's good at keeping his own political opinions out of class for the most part. CON: Current events are a big deal. You HAVE TO stay on top of the news!
He's a great teacher, if you're a liberal. He rarely shows both sides of an argument and gives opinionated lectures.
I took this course online. His lectures were very interesting! I hate it when instructors basically read the PowerPoint provided by the book publisher. Greene did NOT do that! He is a tough grader. I rarely get B's. But I learned a lot and loved this class.
He's really funny. Definitely made me think about being a PoliSci major. If you don't know your current events, that's a big chunk of the test you simply will not know. The tests are essay based. Come to class, take notes, pay attention & you'll be fine.
Dr. Greene is super hilarious and really interesting. TAKE HIM! He's one of my favorites. The class is super easy but focuses on tests a lot. Also his power points are very vague, you should definitely take notes on the things he says because that's a lot of what you'll need to write about on the tests.
Probably one of my favorite classes at State. He makes you think which I liked. He was a great orator and made class fun. I really enjoyed his class. Definitely need to take notes in class. Also, I found reading the book helped me out for the tests a lot so do that! It's a super interesting class.
I took this class as a freshman and Greene is very educated. However, if you show opinions that differ from his liberal and far left view, they are considered wrong and you will be graded down for them.
He is a great guy and his lectures are very interesting! The tests are based off what he says in class, so taking notes is helpful. Would highly recommend taking a class with him if you have the chance.
Dr. Greene is obviously intelligent, but he thinks he's witty and he's not. He talks too much about his personal life. When he actually teaches, he's a wonderful teacher. He's not very good at showing both sides of an argument;you better believe youll hear the liberal side tho! Check his blog;sometimes he makes fun of students which is funny.
Dr. Greene's class was fantastic. I would recommend him for any class, but particularly Gender and Politics. Not a breeze, but if you pay attention and have an interest in the subjects, you'll do well. Overall, a really fun and engaging poli sci class.
I had Dr Greene for Gender in Politics and it was an excellent experience. I was apprehensive about taking a feminism class, but Dr Greene made it interesting. His views are clearly stated, but he is respectful of all opinions and perspectives. Dr Greene is one of the best advocates for undergraduates in the Political Science department.
Very hilarious professor who gives a good effort to make lectures interesting. Powerpoints are pretty straightforward but you should write notes based on what he talks about in class. Read the book, assigned articles, and keep up with current events and you should get a pretty good grade quite easily.
Amazing professor! A blast having him. I was a international student in his class, and I learned a bunch of stuff! Take him!
A nice man who cares about the subject. He is very biased and personally that is something I don't want in a political science class
Amazing is an understatement. Dr. Greene is knowledgeable, understanding and keeps the class engaging. He takes a pretty firm stance on what he believes is right and is kind of inspiring.
Dr Greene is the best Poly Sci professor I've had thus far. His lectures are extremely interesting and he's hilarious. I look forward to his class every day. You have to read a lot but the readings he assigns are always relevant and interesting. Definitely would take him again!
Easy A, but be prepared for one-sided Liberal lecture.
Funny and engaging and easy grading
Lectures are never boring, Greene is very funny and engaging. Easy A if you understand the material. Pretty much common sense. You could get by without getting the book.
Dr. Greene is by far the best PS professor I've ever had at NCSU. He is extremely funny and entertaining, but also teaches the material extremely well. He does make his views very known, but does not push them on you. Great guy. I would take him for every PS class if I could.
Dr. Greene is very good at explaining the material and keeping the class engaged. The tests are very straight forward, as long as you read over your notes beforehand and keep up with current events, you'll do fine.
Dr. Greene is the BEST professor at NC State by far. I have never had a class that I genuinely enjoyed attending.. and I SUCK at going to class. You do have to do the readings but they're always actually interesting. He's really funny and if you attend class, tests are easy. I've taken 3 classes with him now. Take him for every PS class you can!
He was funny and made the class interesting. Tests were easy even if you didn't pay attention as long as you come into class with a good civics education already. If not, it would pay to listen and do the readings. Either way, not difficult and would recommend.
So here's the thing, this is a Public Policy course, not a "Democratic Platform 101". I don't even like Trump, but so far this class seems useless for learning actual policy solutions that aren't from the left. The readings he assigns are all from.. the left! Great, really helpful to learn about bipartisan solutions. I'll steer clear from now on.
Dr. Greenes lectures are always engaging and funny. If you have even the slightest interest in politics I would definitely recommend this class. You do have to work for an A; tests are made up of short answer and current event questions and you only have 50 minutes. You also have to be very up to date with current news.
Very one sidedliberal. Tests are somewhat difficult, hard to pinpoint what current events he is going to put on there. Classes are very boring despite his constant side rants and effort at making jokes. I guess people have a better sense of humor than me bc people laughed but I didnt find any funny. But like I said, very liberal.
Dr. Greene's class has been one of my favorite classes at state. He's so funny and tries to make the lectures as fun as possible. The tests are all written, so they can be kind of challenging if you haven't studied, but overall they're not too bad. No homework other than inquizitives. I would for sure take another class with Dr. Greene!
Dr. Greene is a super engaging prof and his lecture/testing style is great as long as you take notes the whole class (DO NOT rely on the ppts). Just review over them for like an hour and you should be fine. Tests are all short answer essays but as long as you mention a few specific things you'll get full credit.
Don't take this class unless you want bias opinions and zero facts. He is a one-sided liberal and if your papers don't reflect that you are as well then prepare to get no higher than a C. I wrote a paper that met his grading criteria but since I didn't agree to abolish the electoral college I got a D. I even had ivy-league friends proof the paper.
this class is difficult to get through, not because it is hard, because it is hard to listen to this man. I am not even a republican, but he speaks about his democratic views in such a demeaning and arrogant way its kind of annoying. when a student shares a differing opinion in class, they are immediatey shut down.
He is definitely liberal, however I wrote both papers in a more conservative way and received A's on both papers. He tries to be funny in lectures, which is a hit or miss. There's only two papers, which are relatively straight forward. Attendance isn't taken, however you need to attend in order to pass the tests. Tests are all short answer, study.
Great Professor! He is very engaging and really funny. His tests are lecture-heavy, and make sure you take notes on what he says in class, not just writing the words from the PowerPoint. He's very bias, but as long as you understand where he is coming from you should be fine.
Dr. Greene is an amazing professor. I am going to try to get into all of his other classes because he is just that good. He is funny and very approachable and will work with you. Just make sure to not skip because the tests are entirely based on what he says in class.
Dr. Greene's PS 201 class is something I always looked forward to throughout this semester. He does a really good job explaining difficult concepts by using real-world examples and analogies. We had two papers and three exams throughout the semester. They were all easy. For exams, make sure you keep on current events by consuming reliable news.
One of my favorite professors. Very engaging lecturer though will often get sidetracked. Be sure to brush up on the latest news before class. Few assignments exams but all are relatively easy. Power points are not posted online. Definitely a more liberal professor but backs up all arguments with evidence and opens discussion up to opposing views.
I am liberal and agreed with most things he said, but I really disliked the setup of this class and his grading style. He acts as though the class is collaborative and discussion-based, but it was 99% just him lecturing and giving his opinions. He was also an unreasonably harsh grader and gave us no room for improvement.
Dr. Greene is engaging, but a harsh grader. All tests are completely free response, so it can be difficult to make an A, simply because of vague prompts. Very few graded assignments tests/papers with HEAVY weights. He doesn't provide any point of reference for the "current events" section of ANY test; hard to prepare for what you aren't taught:)
I loved this class! Dr. Greene's lectures were very interesting and none of the homework was hard and he only gave two papers over the semester. I found the tests extremely easy; but I also had a decent understanding of the material prior to class. Keep up with current events for the tests; they often have their own sections and are extra credit
Professor Greene's tests were impossibly hard and my TA was terrible. In addition to this, the tests are heavily based upon obscure current events. Not a class worth taking if you want an easy A for an intro class.
PS 201 is the only class i have taken that i have actually enjoyed. The lectures are interesting and Dr. Greene keeps you paying attention. The exams were all short answers and not that hard if you take good notes and pay attention. Only 2 papers in the class graded by TAs. Highly recommend.
His lectures were very entertaining and allowed for a lot of discussion. He can get a little off topic sometimes, but overall provides so much information. He is a tough grader when it comes to papers and exams. There is A BUNCH of reading and most of the assignments are based on the readings. Only had four assignments to be graded on.
A great professor. His lectures are very engaging and he keeps it interesting. He graded off participation, 2 midterms, a paper, and final exam. I highly suggest Dr. Greene if you have to opportunity to take a class with him.
very liberal but also funny. tests are all open-ended with a current events section. 2 papers. homework that he doesn't announce, it's your responsibility to check it. don't just write the words on the PowerPoint, a lot of the information comes from what he says
His exams are based off of articles and class lectures... (no biggie). But the grading rubric is non-existent. He will take off "x" amount of points because "he doesn't think your answer is worth full credit". Well, without a rubric, how does one even know what to cover in an answer? Would NOT recommend.
Enthusiastic+smart prof. VERY liberal+bias, but typical in PS. Unclear grading criteria by far. Readings can be unnecessarily long+tedious. Worst part is testing on current events. He did not assign current event readings, so when it came to tests they were arbitrary and you did not know which current event was on test. 1 paper, 3 exams.
Amazing lectures. Excessive readings. Very open to engaged conversations. He won't condemn you for having a different opinion, but he will be a bit dismissive about it. Tough to get As on exams/papers, but if you're okay with Bs then you're good. Very knowledgeable and the class taught me a lot. Most of the info comes from him, not the PowerPoints.
The only reason he's not getting a 1 is because his lectures are actually interesting. He has an extreme liberal bias which is fine; however, he has the biggest ego in the world. I've never had a professor who thinks he's so superior to his students before. Grades like you should be in your PS graduate program in a 201 class.
Dr. Greene is a very passionate teacher. He is absolutely amazing at what he does. He does include a LOT of liberal bias though. I myself would say I'm liberal but he can be a little much sometimes. He's extremely funny though and makes you actually want to go to class. Very minimal work. Take this if you can!
Class was good, very liberal but I didn't care. good and easy test, didn't really study.
Dr. Greene is a great lecturer, and he's very much the type of professor you see in movies. He's a very eccentric lecturer who kinda loves to hear himself talk, maybe a just little cocky too. He really doesn't have a bias, his analysis of government is impressively objective. Entertaining guy in general.
Not a political science major, however, thoroughly enjoyed the class. Entertaining lectures. Heavy on the reading material though. Papers are somewhat difficult, but plenty of time to complete them.
This was by far the most engaging class I took this semester and I really looked forward to Dr. Greene's lectures. He doesn't allow laptops which I honestly really liked because it kept me more engaged. The exams are a little difficult but as long as you listen in the lectures to grasp the concepts and keep up with current events you'll be fine.
Professor Greene is quite funny, and your success in the class lowkey depends on how strictly your TA grades according to his guidelines. The lectures are entertaining, but he rambles and then towards the end they feel rushed. Two midterms and a final exam, weekly inquizitives, two papers. Exams are all written, pay attention to current events!
Dr. Greene is definitely an amazing teacher. He is able to make his lectures interesting by connecting class topics to current events or real-life scenarios. There are three exams total, the last exam is non-cumulative, and there are two papers around 4-5 pages each. This is a great intro course.
The grading in this class is done by the TA's so Dr.Greene really has no control over your grade. But the lectures are funny and very digestible. I feel like this class was pretty easy as long as your get the notes and read NYT occasionally.
Prof Greene's lectures were very engaging and interesting. The TA's graded everything. There were 2 exams and a final which were all hand-written, open-ended questions. There were weekly inquizitive assignments and 2 papers but overall was not too difficult. Keep updated with current events and read New York Times!
Take a SG class only if you want to hear SG talk about his life and his opinions. He's fun but for those whom it concerns- know that he's unquestionably pro-capitalism and if you read anything he's written online, he is zionist and transphobic. He will make you read the opinion pieces of his favorite twitter personalities as homework. Don't take SG
this man went out of his way to use italics in an EMAIL just to be an a-hole. his online section was the laziest piece of garbage I have ever seen a professor pass off as an online class before. No actual changes to make it a real online class, just his exact lectures from the previous semester, a ton of readings that he doesn't even link, and more
His lectures are entertaining and he shows he cares about his profession. Your grade is largely dependent on the TA you are assigned to. Compared to my friends in the class, my TA had different grading standards and seemed less lenient for exams and papers. However, Greene does a wonderful job lecturing, and if you pay attention, you will do well.
An amazing professor and lecturer. Kept us engaged and always let us share our thoughts on certain topics. Taking PS302 during election season with him was very entertaining and helped me understand what was going on a lot more in depth. Pushed back due dates when he knew we had a large workload and grades fairly. Love Dr.Greene!
I have mixed feelings about this professor.. He is pretty rude over email, and a very harsh grader. He is openly left-leaning (as am I), but still has some very conservative views. Don't email him about Palestine and LGBTQ+ issues (he couldn't care less also check his Twitter). I would recommend to learn from a different professor who teaches well.
Really amazing lectures; tons of energy but sometimes goes on long tangents or gets off topic.. even that was engaging, though. Good sense of humor. Pretty subjective grader but easily accessible and willing to talk. Extremely passionate and knowledgeable.
1) Entertaining with STRONG liberal bias. 2) If your view differs from his, it is likely wrong. 3) Receiving anything better than an A- involves selling your soul. 4) The readings aren't that bad, they're usually short. 5) If you go to class, do the readings, and participate the midterm and final should be a breeze. VERY tough paper grader.
Dr. Greene is an insanely harsh grader. If you make an argument in your paper that he doesn't agree with he will knock points off. He has a very clear idea of what he wants to see on the paper but the rubric is hardly a guideline to help you achieve what he is looking for. Got an A+ on the midterm so his grading is super unclear.
Harsh grader.
I personally loved Greene's style of teaching but a few things are worth noting: -Paper grading seems to heavily focus on successfully integrating course readings/statistics from the lecture -Greene is very outspoken about his views during lecture. He's generally very liberal but is critical of certain left-wing movements like defund the police
For most of the semester, I really enjoyed Dr. Greene and his class, but, near the end, things quickly changed. He is a SUPER harsh grader and does not give a rubric for any of his assignments outside the exams. My grade fluctuated the entire semester, even though I was doing all of the day-to-day work for the class, and it stressed me out bad.
The funniest, most engaging professor I've had. He leans more liberal but can make a hilarious joke about anyone. If you're easily offended no matter your beliefs he is likely not a good prof to take. Lectures were super engaging and I throughly enjoyed them. The lab section had a ton of reading, but Greene himself was great!
Dr. Greene is one of the best professors that I have had at NC State. His lectures are always super engaging and he is such a hilarious person. His classes always have me engaged and I know that I will leave his class smiling. I would totally recommend taking his classes.
Mr. Greene rocks dude. His lectures are hilarious and actually easy to pay attention to. The tests are verbatim what he says in class, so just take good notes and you will pass with flying colors. The essays and other things are graded by the TA, so it really depends on which one you get. Take this class!
Easy class and funny during lectures.
Steven Greene is the most fun professor I've had at NCSU thus far. The class is also very easy, so long as you actually listen to the lectures, which is an enjoyable experience anyway since he has great ones, the exams will be a breeze. The class also has 2 papers, but only 1 is a research paper. Dr Greene made the class overall incredibly fun.
