Easiest A I ever received, and Steve's stories rock!!
Could care less about the class or your performance, but still easy
You may think he is nice, but just wait until you actually have to talk to him
Easy A! As long as you memorize his review sheet, there should be no reason why you don't get an A.
Easy.. no tests.. only assignments & online quizzes you can take as many times as you want. Fun guy... lectures got somewhat boring, but he had some fun stories.
Best Class Ever
I heard starting SP 04 the class is going to be slightly harder than before. And by that I mean he might actually make us think more... ha..
one of my favorite classes I have taken at U of I.
what a joke, the lowest grade on the final project was a 590 of 600 possible and its a 300+ person class
awesome professor..interesting lectures.easy class.
SO easy
Not as easy as everyone says but he is really cool. Lectures are actually fun.
Easiest class I have EVER taken- take it if you want to get an A+ without even trying or going to class
Irritating is the best word to describe this class. The lectures suck, the take home quizzes are really specific about things no one could possibly remember. I really can't describe it any other way except that it is constantly irritating.
best teacher ever. he's very funny and made this one of my favorite classes
This class is one of the easiest classes I have ever had in college. No tests, just take home quizzes. A couple of easy BS papers are assigned as well. You do not need the book or even go to class. If you have a firend who does go, just use their quiz answers. Tons of Extra Credit available. This class is pointless but an easy A.
He is a complete moron. He promised to put up assignments so that we would have time to do them, and then he never posted them until (literally) weeks later. Grading was random and capricious, and it took FOREVER to get things graded and graded posted. I truly dispise him,&te never responds to email
Steve Hall is the worst and the least organized professor I have ever stumbled upon. The class is a joke and the TAs dont have a clue as to what is going on. Lecture is pointless because there are no tests or final. Projects are unclear and worthless. I learned and did completely nothing and got an A. Going to class is a waste of time.
Worthless class. You will honestly learn nothing. There is no final just projects. if you don't get an A you are just dumb.
He is the most unhelpful instructor I have encountered on the campus in 3 years of college. He didn't release assignments until weeks after he said he would, and left 2 huge projects for the last week of the semester. Grading is random and the TAs don't have a clue about anything. Not worth the stress, and he and the TAs never reply to their email.
If you want to literally do nothing and get an A+, take this class. If you're not a total moron, and you think college is about actually learning something valuable, don't take this class. Everyone gets an A.
Basically, this man is paid to breathe and drop names of all the people he knows in the industry for a few hours a week. A tool outside of the classroom as well. Truly a waste of time. Unhappily, a required course for adv majors. An easy A though. And a good guy to know when you start job hunting.
easy as hell, didn't learn anything.
This class is so easy. It is interesting, but all of it is just common sense. Out of a class of 750 about 200 came to each lecture. Left 2 projects worth 25% of your grade EACH due the last 3 weeks of class. Also, lots of hot girls take this class if you're into that.
Two huge projects left at the end of the semester so plan ahead to have room in your schedule for that. Take this class with a friend and you can switch off who goes to which class becuase all you need is the notes randomly here and there. Grades depend on who your TA is...overall easy A, no final exam.
Very easy class, no exams just projects which can be time consuming but are not difficult. Lots of work left till the very end of the semester. Interesting guy to listen to during lectures even though its not necessary to go.
This is probably the easiest class on campus. Also, it's pretty interesting. He usually lets out earlier than the alotted time. Theres about 5 assignments, no tests, and a couple in class activities. Automatic A.
best. class. ever. no tests, slides are online but it's pretty necessary to go to class because he uses examples in class not on the slides, then uses them on assignments. so much fun!
this man teaches one of the most pointless classes ever invented for credit. no final exam, no tests. people take notes but this is a waste of time, as is attending. i did not even know steve hall's name until the end of the semester since i did not go to this class ever. things you should know: he is loud, and resembles a grape.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! it is so easy. when reading these comments, disregard those saying this class is annoying or hard, because they are probably quite dumb, you'd have to be to think this class is challenging. I did not attend EVER, and yet i got a 100 percent.take the class.if you don't, you will regert it. OH, AND HE DOES LOOK LIKE A GRAPE!
im still trying to figure out how this class is allowed on campus. its is ridiculously EASY. i think it was instituted to boost GPAs. if u get the chance to take it DO NOT PASS IT UP! projects are easy except the last ones require some effort. attendance is not necessary unless u have an in class assignment or something due (he tells u in advance)
Easy A. You don't have to go to class but there are assignments about in class things so take the class with friends and occaisonally go together. I love its upper level credit. You do nothing. He is a jerk when you actually speak to him in person. Whatever... you get an A.
Amazing. No quizzes, no tests. Just a few assignments. You don't have to attend class for 3 weeks at a time if you want. But his lectures can actually be interesting and some classes you just watch good commercials.
If you don't get an A in this class, there is something wrong with you.
Easiest class on campus. I went to about seven lectures all semester and got an A+.
SOOOO EASY!!!! guaranteed A+, get out of class early, don't even need to go! so much exta credit and no hw/exams! take it for an easy elective... but it is hard to get into!
easy class, but his lecturing skills are terrible. he rambles about his personal experiences, and breezes past slides with legitimate information on them. the book is VERY expensive, which he admits to, but try and share a copy because you don't use it often enough for it to be worth the cost. also doesn't use a microphone in a class of 300+
Steve is nice but his class was pretty useless. All we did was listen to speakers and didn't really learn much from the class. It's a 3 hour class but it rarely lasts even 1 hour. The entire grade is your final portfolio, which is a binder of everything you did in the class. He's pretty confusing, changes his mind a lot, and drops names constantly.
This was a really easy class. You don't even have to go if you don't want to. Next semester he is not teaching ADV 300 - there will be a different professor. Hall is very nice and I am sure any class you take will be easy and enjoyable.
This class is the mother of all jokes. I can truly say I got a little stupider.
veeeery easy class.
Easiest A ever. The whole semester, I learned literally nothing. Basically, you only have to do a portfolio which takes 1 hour and you get an A.
Although he isnt as easy as he used to be, its still really easy to get an A. I studied the day before all of our tests and did fine. When you add in all the extra credit he gives you its a pretty easy class. The study guide that he gives you for each test tells you exactly what you need to know. 5 tests total and 3 hw.
It wasn't quite as easy as everyone said it would be (they changed the curriculum to include 5 tests and 3 hw assignments), but it was still VERY easy. Steve is a great guy, and you can tell he is passionate about what he teaches. I learned a lot. Also, you get to watch a million youtube videos. I actually looked forward to going to class.
he is knowledgeable about adv and very passionate about teaching. this class is not as easy as before but it's still easy with plenty of extra credit opportunities. the tests are straightforward and easy if you memorize all the notes and assigned readings. the class covers interesting topics and shows tons of cool adv clips.
Easiest A ever as the only grade for the class is a portfolio you turn in at the end and a class trip to Chicago to tour Ad agencies. Steve is a great guy who is very knowledgeable about the industry. Most of the classes involve a guest speaker from the industry coming to the class (some were very interesting). Take class for easy A or to network
Awesome professor. He's full of stories and knows just about everyone in the industry. Easy A for the class.
CLass was definitely NOT as easy as before or as easy as people said. And even Steve said there were very few Extra Credit opportunities this semester. Attendance is mandatory otherwise you won t be able to answer the test questions.
Awesome class. Steve knows exactly what he is talking about every class. I'm already missing going to it. Very easy exams if you have the book and the lecture notes, and so many extra credit opportunities it is insane.
Take this class!!! It's actually really easy. Some people might not agree, but honestly if you come to lecture (which is really interesting) and just take good notes then you are set for an A+! It is really easy, I didn't spend too much time for this class and did well. And Steve is really nice and knows alot!
Very easy class! 50% of the tests are based on in class material, 50% is based on the book, but he provides study guides of EXACTLY what will be on the test. I studied the night before every test and did the easy homework assignments and got an A. He is a really nice guy too and there is usually a decent amount of extra credit.
Professor Hal keeps class interesting with real-world, current examples. He seems knowledgeable about the topic. Also, he is very approachable if you are ever in need of assistance.
Super easy class and Steve is awesome! Such a foodie and has traveled everywhere. Very interesting even if you're not an Advertising major!
Steve knows a lot about the advertising industry, but he rambles. Most of the time you just YouTube ads. The tests are kind of hard because his lecture notes are just examples without real definitions. He is very well connected though, and he's pretty funny.
I didn't like this guy at all. He wasn't helpful, and in lecture all he does is talk about himself and all the places he's traveled. Plus he name drops a lot. He tends to just skim the important material. You have to really pay attention in lecture and take thorough notes. However, it's not too hard to get a good grade.
Professor Hall class was interesting. I wouldn't say this is the easiest class i ever taken, because i actually had to spent time reading the text books and notes. However, overall the class was easy, in order to get an A in this class, all you need to do is to study carefully and find out every answer on the study guide, and you will get an A.
Def came out of the class a lot more aware of how advertising shapes my everyday judgment.Exams came with a study guide given usually a week in advance.Assignments were more toward the end of the semester but overall didn't ask for anything unreasonable as they just required you to think a bit outside the box/creatively. Recommend for advanced hrs
Honestly I hated going to class just cause it was three hours long, but he took that into consideration and would give us breaks. Class mostly consisted of him showing us YouTube clips of commercials, You always had something fun to show friends but you have to really read the textbook to pass the exams. He's pretty cool but all over the place.
He's amazing. So funny, really laid back. Never keeps you the whole time. If there's nothing to do in class, he will just cancel it. He's awesome!!!!!
Steve is an awesome teacher. He is very chill and interesting. There are only four tests and a project so in order to do well you must study a lot for the tests. Even though the material is common sense, he finds a way to make the tests difficult.
Not an easy A. Loved attending classes he showed great clips, and examples. The test/exams were pretty tricky if you didn't read the book or attend class. But there is tons of extra credit just in case you fail the tests. The assignments/ projects were fairly easy though.
Super nice professor and all of the lectures are really entertaining. half of the test is over stuff talked about in class and the other half is from the book, so don't try to get by in this class without either. He also offers lots of extra credit and take advantage of as much of it as you can, because the small points really add up.
This class is very easy. Everything is very straightforward. But this professor is a very bad. Tests are poorly written. What a disgrace for an instructor who does not know how to write a proper exam. Also take very good notes in lecture since he will not post lecture notes online. He only post lecture outlines, which do not cover everything.
Very interesting course about advertising in general, all the different agencies, and careers in the field. Exams were pretty easy and he's a cool guy.
Steve is an awesome guy and an awesome teacher! He knows so much about the industry and makes lecture interesting. Make sure you take notes in lecture and read the textbook for the tests but don't stress too much because there are extra credit opportunities.
He knows his stuff. He's an awesome teacher and makes lectures interesting. I would recommend scheduling office hours with him though, he's a pretty busy guy. Take notes in class and graze over the textbook and you'll be fine.
This class was great. Easy and fun to go to lecture. Steve is a great professor and offers a lot of extra credit. Tells you everything that's on the test.
One of my favorite classes. Go to lecture! 80% of the test comes from his lecture examples and definitions. You only have 4 tests (no final) and a project. The tests are very straightforward (he gives very detailed review guides and notes can be found online). He gives a fair amount of extra credit as well. Great class and professor!
Awesome teacher. Makes lectures fun and it is clear that he wants the students to do well. This class is an easy A if you study for tests and I really enjoyed learning about advertising because of him.
Honestly one of the coolest professors you will ever have the chance of meeting. He loves what he does and he loves making lectures fun and interesting. A lot of the test questions are about lecture so it's a good idea to go to class. I never missed a class of his because I loved it so much.
Steve is a great guy, though I did not learn much in ADV199. The field trip is fun, though we had no grade in the class until the last day of class. Definitely recommend taking a class with him at some point.
Pretty easy class. He is a way chill teacher. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for something with an easy A.
Steve is a very inspiring professor and really inspired me to pursue a career in the Advertising Industry. Gives good "real world" knowledge during lectures but for exams you will need to know you're textbook information as well and lecture "real world" knowledge. He doesn't remind you of homework that is due "connect assignments" do them yourself.
Hall is a really cool guy who definitely knows a LOT about the field of advertising. There's EC and 4 exams along with a online assignments and a few other assignments. You can only get like 3-4 wrong on the exams to get an A, so that's what sucks. Otherwise, definitely a very interesting and engaging class.
PAY ATTENTION TO THE LECTURES! Write down specific details about the examples he shows in class. They might seem random, but they appear on the exams. His tests are split pretty much 50/50 between the lectures and text.
His lectures are very engaging and interesting but make sure you take detailed notes because even small things will end up on tests. Your grades are defined by how well you do on the 4 tests and the end group project. Leave yourself a couple days to study. USE THE STUDY GUIDE, HE MAKES HIS TESTS DIRECTLY FROM THEM.
Professor Hall is a super cool guy and made me want to get into advertising. His lectures are almost all pictures and videos so make sure you take notes on what he shows (they're on the tests) The study guides are super accurate to whats on the test and towards the end of the semester he gives a ton of extra credit!
Professor Hall opened my eyes to advertising and how cool some projects can be. There was never a boring class. He told us what would be on the tests and helped us excel for the writing assignment we had. If you have an extra elective to burn, this class is awesome for it.
On the second day of class I fainted and he rode in the ambulance with me and waited in the hospital with me for hours until I was released. I was so impressed by how caring he was. I will never forget his kindness.
You do need to go to class to do well, listening and taking detailed notes on what he says and the examples he shows is needed to do well on the exams. But as long as you do that, the homework, and the 3 projects throughout, you're guaranteed an A. Steve is hilarious, though, class is always fun to attend.
tests are divided between lectures and textbook. They do not cross pollinate. You can do well enough without the book, but be prepared to buy something brand new for an A
For ADV 150, Professor Hall is a great professor and always has his own stories for everything. His lectures are not boring and the first day said all slides will have less than a sentence. He wants you to pass and will give TONS of extra credit. Attend class because half the test questions are from lecture and other half are textbook.
Steve is awesome! He gives great lectures with a lot of examples and it really feels like he's just talking about things he's passionate about and incorporating them into lecture. He gives detailed study guides for exams so the class is fairly easy. If you're even somewhat interested in the major, take this class!
He has so much insight in the field of advertising. The class is super easy & you actually learn things that will help u in a career. He is really nice and caring & a great teacher all around. The only downside to this class is that you have to buy cengage for $119 in order to do the homework. The homework is easy & due at the end of the semester.
Lectures arent really required but half of the test questions are lecture material so go be sure to go.
One of my favorite classes that I took freshman year. This class will convince you to become an advertising major!
He's really enthusiastic and makes the lectures interesting. He really knows a lot about advertising and makes the content in his class interesting an engaging. The group project is also really fun. The only con is that he is a little lazy and takes a while to grade. I went a whole semester without having any grades in but ended up with 100%
We didn't have any zoom classes. The class was graded completely off assignments and participation from the weekly readings. His lectures were very helpful but honestly I only watched one or two and was still able to get an A. Great guy and would highly recommend.
With the all online version (no zoom) if you do all the assignments such as connect and short quizzes on compass, you will get an A. No tests.
Loved his class! I wish I had the chance to experience it in person!
Takes away points from assignments even though you do what is asked.
very easy and not time-consuming at all. very interesting man
Professor Hall is the best - amazing lecturer with lots of video content in class, gives out SO MUCH extra credit, and the assignments/group projects completed in discussion are a lot of fun. Homework is also really easy. This class really sparked my interest in advertising and will be the main reason why I choose to major in it!
This class was exceptionally easy. Attendance was basically mandatory for discussion, not at all for lectures. He is a very interesting guy, but I didn't care for the lectures, personally, as I did not feel his lectures offered much concrete info. However, he is very lenient + gives lots of extra credit + is overall very chill.
He let European exchange students cheat all the time. They talked non-stop while taking tests.
funniest dude ever, great to talk to, cares more about learning and experience than grades, no final
Very interesting class to get an insight into the advertising world. Professor Hall is very knowledgeable about the topic and has a clear passion for it. Provides great worksheets that help you delve into basic advertising skills needed. Attendance for lectures isn't mandatory but is for disucssion.
