This is a tough class and this teacher does a great job ensuring you get the most out of it. Tests are tough, lectures are clear, labs are well-structured, and the end-of-the-year class project is very valuable if you're a bio major. I would recommend this teacher to anyone who actually wants to learn the full course material!

Very Helpful outside of class. I was able to engage in intellectual banter about biology in relativity to daily life with him whenever I wanted. Loves to teach. Very difficult tests, but they're fair. Always in office hours. Great Teacher Overall!!

Holzberg is awesome! He's really clear and he writes his own labs which keeps them short. His exams are straight out of his lecture so you barely need the book. His class requires A LOT of studying but if you're organized and keep a neat notebook the class is very doable!

This class is hard, but wayyyy cool. 4 exams, 1 final, total of 1000 points. He offers a 20 pt ec assignment which makes up for a lab report. Dr. Holzberg is amazing! He's super laid back and pretty much anything flies but don't let him fool you, he expects you to LEARN. Study hard and be organized.

Dr. holzberg is a great teacher and person. His tests are really hard but he grades more than fair. He doesnt make you read every word in the textbook and he gives you all the things you need to know in his notes. Dont miss any class or labs because you will regeret it later.

If you can stand being lectured at with nothing but a powerpoint every class then feel free to take his class. Really cool guy, and very knowledgeable, but his lectures get pretty boring. Wish he would involve the class more in his lectures

Dr. Holzberg is an outstanding teacher. His tests can be hard, but he tells you everything you need to know in lecture. His expectations are very clear. Study his powerpoints hard and you should have no problem. He really prepares you for future bio classes, and shows you a lot of real world applications. Possibly my favorite teacher of all time.

As others here have noted, he conducts a tough, but fun class. He is a laid back guy, but demands you study. I would definitely take a class from him again and highly recommend him.

Really cool guy. Presentations were easy grade boosters. Almost no extra credit. Tests are extremely hard. Only class I've ever gotten a c in. Study hard and you'll do good. Don't take this class with full schedule. Its almost impossible to pass if you do.

study for the tests, know the powerpoints inside and out. dont ever use the book, useless purchase. do all the extra credit, curves the tests, is pretty funny at times. Make sure to study and study more atleast 2 weeks before a test and you will be able to achieve a B no doubt!

Luckily, he balances assn's with exams because his exams are HARD. Be able to dedicate the majority of your schedule to this class and stay up to date on lecture material so you are prepared for the cumulative final. Don't slack on quizzes, lab reports and presentations and you can pass the class. You will learn a lot in this class and then some !

Holzberg is an amazing teacher but his tests are definitely difficult. Taking notes word for word and knowing them front to back is essential. He asks very specific questions on the exams. The only thing that was really terrible was the two hour lecture after the tests. Overall, I have learned a ton in this class- probably would not take him again.

Study. Everyone else says that, but really, actually study. Not just the two days before the exam, but study a little bit every day. The exams cover a ridiculous amount of information, and cramming ain't gonna help. The lectures are good, but long. The labs are a waste of time. Good guy, would recommend.

His class is tough because you must understand the material holistically to get a good grade. Remembering fragmented facts about biology will not help you for his class. Steve is just great. Funny, articulate, keeps your attention & relates well to students. Lecture exams are tough, but labs and extra credit save you. You won't find easily find a better biology professor at a four year university. If you don't have solid study habits, you better develop them BEFORE you get to this class.

Holzberg was one of my best professors at Los Rios. He lectures what he expects you to know and his labs are straight forward. Never tries to trick you on the tests OR lab quizzes and is more than generous with points when it comes to the presentations. Notes are clear and he's very knowledgeable of the material. I am better prepared than most now.

His tests are not insane tf yall talkin bout, had me freakin out. Future bio students, you all good if you do this thing called studying. It's a rather useful way of understanding material. Overall everything u need is in his powerpoints. Make sure do hw.. thats it really. Study obviously......

Prepare to buckle down. He preaches 10 hours of studying a week, but with the reports and presentations it often takes longer. Tests are extremely tough so take good notes and STUDY STUDY STUDY. Overall really nice guy though, very funny and approachable. Expect a B, but an A is obtainable with hard work (AND DOING EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNIES)

Dr. Holzberg is very knowledgeable and his class had a nice structure. The exams cover a lot of topics discussed in class (even if they aren't in the lecture notes), so be sure to take note of things heavily discussed. His lectures can be long and, in some cases, boring. However, he knows how to convey the course information easily and clearly!

Bio400 is a very dense course so there is a LOT to learn. Always expose yourself to the material, review the notes, and read the textbook as much as possible. The tests are really tough but he offers extra credit opportunities that will boost your grade. You definitely have to work hard for the grade you want.

Hes really knowledgeable and passionate about his subject. His tests are pretty rough but he curves them if the average is below 70. Easy lab quizzes and mastering bio assignments every class period. Easy on labs too, 3 lab reports the whole semester. Also offers a lot of extra credit. A is possible, just dont procrastinate. Hes SUPER HELPFUL.

Professor Holzberg teaches biology in a way that's very easy to understand. It is a rather difficult class, so you have to be dedicated to earning a good grade. Don't take him if you don't have time. But otherwise, he's great; very passionate about what he teaches. Ask him questions, he'll be happy to answer. Easy labs & extra credit opportunities!

LMFAO everyone's giving him the lowest rate, but he is the professor you want to take! especially if you want to understand biology. he goes over each topic in details presented through slides. you do have a LOT of hw to do! BUT it will help you so much during the exam. read! ask questions! he is a tough, detailed grader, you will thank him later

He's tough. But if you will take other biological classes, you'll thank him later. I had to spend a ton of time to get the grade I got, but I got a really in depth understanding of the material and it prepared me really well. Lots of extra credit opportunities, exams are open-note (for online).

Hardest class Ive ever taken. Honestly hes a great professor that really knows what hes talking about. The key to the exams are his lectures, I took him online so I had access to recordings which were really helpful not sure if thats an option in person. An 89 is an A and there is EC. My opinion, dont take him unless hes the only option there

Professor Holzberg is a genuinely nice person and wants his students to succeed. While his exams are fairly challenging, he does curve them and is very willing to help students if they ask. Lectures are informative and homework is manageable. Lab quizzes every class.

STEM classes in general are known for being difficult. That being said, Holzberg made this intro class bearable and often really fun too. He's also available during office hours on most weekdays to answer any questions about the material. He does a great job with the vast amount of material and his presentations are engaging and well-laid out too.

One of the hardest classes you will ever take. That being said, don't be intimidated. If you put in the work, this can be a very rewarding class. He genuinely loves teaching and cares about his students' success. Very accessible & knowledgable, seasoned Professor. Would take him again if he taught another course. Effort matters! Don't fall behind.

Professor Holzberg is great, he's very approachable and friendly. But don't underestimate the difficulty of his class. He has made it clear that you must go over lecture and lab material outside of class in order to get a high grade. That being said, he has numerous resources for you to go over them, take advantage of it.

He's an amazing professor, the best I've ever had. Bio is hard but he's designed the class to be as manageable as possible, he won't stack HW on you. But, it's up you to put in time outside of class (10-15hrs.) He seems passionate about biology, and cares about his students. He always makes time for those who need help too. We're lucky to have him!

This is the class that will prepare you for your next steps in STEM. The year after I took his class I did undergraduate research and relied heavily on the skills I learned from him. This class is a lot of work, but it isn't busy work and he's with you every step of the way. Take the course, do the work, thank him later!

Holzberg is genuinely such a fun person. The only people who suffered in his class refused to take notes and never listened to lectures. This is a baby bio course, way easier than AP. Lots of curving, extra credit opportunities, and he's always willing to help. If you don't put in the effort though there's not a lot he can do for you.

Prof. Holzberg really wants you to succeed! I like that he has silly examples and helps you take down notes like for ex. he would draw mind maps to help us with our study notes. He provides a lot of studying tips and in his lectures he has words in green to let you know those are terms u should focus on which makes wverything sm easier!!

Very nice and replies fast if you have any questions. Never makes you feel dumb when he answers. He creates a slide of to-do list after each lecture which not a lot of professors do!! So we can keep track of deadlines. Wish more professors were like him.
