I found him very refreshing. After moving hear a year ago I was tired of hearing the one sided politics of Everett. It is always good to hear both sides of the issues.
He is a great example of what a prof. should be like. He was great at making his speaches interesting. I am totally inerested in politics now, he opened a window for me. Great job!
He doesnt hide his political stance, which in a beginning poli sci class, can taint students that are not poli sci majors. I also felt that he played favorites to the people who had extreme views, and did not favor those with middle of the road views
He was alright, not great. Had a terrible grading scheme, on some of the papers he graded based on your arguments, not its support. I got 100 on the papers, but he'd write something like "Where's the support?" when it was the next sentence...
I thought his class was an easy A, and the subject matter was interesting, but he bored me. I liked what we studied though, it was interesting and he made sure that you read all of it. Basically, what you read outside of class is interesting, and in clas
He said I was super superficial lol! That was harsh... well, probably 'cause I said stuff like Bush was ditzy and the president is supposed to be an "idol"... I had stuff to back it up... well, in my opinion my paper worked...
Tell me if this sounds familiar "Well, let's say it this way instead. Sounds more collegiate." Um, this is community college...sorry guys, not exactly the paradigm of collegiate perfection.

Boring
Took class online. He knows this subject well, however, he is notoriously slow to grade assignments. The class was over 25% finished before he graded our first assignment. Feels like he's new to teaching online. I suspect it would have been a great class in person.
Very fair in grading. We seem to be nearly polar opposites politically, but I'm still getting "A"s on my assignments. Just keep up with the reading, just don't swear/be a jerk/be rude/be ignorant and you'll do fine. Read what you write before you send it, and you'll easily pass the class.
He was an awesome teacher and made the class interesting. He did a great job at facilitating debate in the class as well as stayed objective when it came to teaching the material. Professor McDreamy!
Incompetent and worthless as a teacher. If I knew he was a terrible teacher I would've taken a different class instead of wasting my time taking his class. His tests are a joke. He does not test on anything that he lectures on in class and is not relavent to any of the material in the book. He is just there for the paycheck.
I would not take this teacher again if I had the choice.
tests are very closely related to the book but the class is very interesting. great class conversations. willing to work with you in order to get a good grade.
He is an excellent teacher! He assigns a lot of reading, but the discussions are great if the students participate (he really appreciates that!). Definately take his class if you're lookin for a good poly s teacher.
I loved this class a lot. He is a very liberal teacher and there were a lot of strong felt debates in the classroom. I really recommend him as a teacher
hes amazing
Sooo boring. He seemed to know everything he was teaching, but I didn't learn much in the class. He's a really slow grader and very liberal! He always says "right" ;)
he is verrrry cute :) and very intelligent. I would take any class that he teaches. just make sure to really absorb the reading or you'll suck on the tests...
I took this class online. It was a very difficult course. The two exams were timed (90 minutes) and open book, but both incredibly hard. Textbook reading was intensive and required good note-taking or memory. Dr Horn communicated regularly, his lesson plans were clear from day one, and his expectations were available in the syllabus.
I took his online class and thought it was well laid out. The discussion boards were set up well and he always participated, especially when someone wasn't backing up their argument. The tests were pretty difficult, but if you study and understand where to look in the book you'll do fine.
He's not a bad teacher, but I found the class very boring. He definitely knows what he's talking about, but I don't think he knows how to explain things well enough for those of us who aren't politically savvy.
He is a fair, helpful, very intelligent, understanding and open minded. all in all I liked his teaching style. He does take a stand every now and then but has an open mind for opposing views... very passionate about climate change....which is awesome!!!
He is not very interesting because he has a monotone voice. He would be more interesting if he allowed for more questions. Some times I fall asleep.
Dr. Horn is a difficult teacher. Many times during the quarter I felt I would not pass. Be aware that if you do not have an interest in politics, this class is not for you! Be sure you are a good reader who can follow instructions explicitly, and you will do well.
If you do not have a devout interest in politics prior to taking this class, you will not pass. His lectures are mainly conversations with the few political junkies in the front row and never speaks with other students. He lectures, you read, then you test. He hardly engages in debates or any kind of analytical work. Not an effective instructor.
It's been a couple of years since I took his 100 class, but I plan on taking 202 with him as well. I had another class that took a lot of my time out of Pol Sci, but still managed a B. I took the online course, that might make a difference. Will report on difference after I take a hybrid with him possibly next quarter.
Great lectures, they are very information rich, but he is really good about answering questions. Great at remaining non-partisan, but he will take a stand if needed. Very open to comments from students and listens to opinions if you give them. The homework can be very difficult if you don't like reading or wait until right before it is due to do it
I didn't think I'd do good in this class cause I didn't do good in the first tests. Try to do the extra credit he offers, and take notes in the lectures. For the book test, use the study guide cause and study the stuff it says on there. That helped me alot. I'm not into politics and knew nothing till this class, but I still passed with a good grade
Very difficult instructor with a definite personal world view that he brings to his assignments. He appreciates active participation, however. So, as long as your willing to put in the work, disagreeing with him is possible. You will put a lot of hours into his classes though.
I had a very difficult time with this class which I took online. Be prepared to spend many hours reading the materials and listening to lectures. I wouldn't recommend taking with other classes! If you're taking it alone then not too bad.
This is my second class with Dr. Horn and I will be taking him for 202 next quarter and 210 the next quarter. There's a lot of coursework, but you really take something away from it, if you take two of his classes simultaneously you actually lighten the load because every class listens to Democracy Now weekly. Most courses online.
There is a ton of reading and lecture mateial to cover in a short period of time - I took this class on-line during summer quarter. Interesting material but I will NEVER take another political science class! Dr. Horn was a good instuctor, but political science is not for me - at least I understand the system now and know what I'm voting for!
This was my third class with Dr. Horn (which says in it's own how I feel about him as an instructor). He definitely isn't an easy instructor, but he's effective! I wouldn't suggest a summer quarter with him, but i's not too hard to keep up during the regular school year. He imerses students in politics.
Great teacher, very clear, straight to the point, lots of reading, hard tests, but STUDY STUDY STUDY and HIGHLIGHT A LOT! three different books, two major tests ( u can take it twice ) quizzes, which are easy if you have read. I recommend if you like learning about the government !
Dr. Horn is a very passionate professor. His lectures are insightful & very informative. I took his POLS101 class as a Hybrid & the work was done online. Keep up with the readings & homeworks & you'll do great in the class! Availability depends: after class or by appointment. Will be taking more of his PolScience classes, totally recommended! :)
Dr. Horn is extremely passionate about what he teaches, and is a great communicator. The downside is that he mostly teaches Hybrid classes and is recording as he lectures, so questions are difficult as he has to stop recording to do so. He is into LBGT issues and spends a little too much time there, and I am quite liberal.Smart/hot and charismatic.
So far the best class I have taken at EvCC. Dr. Horn covered some very intriguing topics that were enjoyable to study. His lectures could get a tad boring as did the readings. Tests, essays, and quizzes are all very easy if you pay attention. Highly recommended!
Excellent and very supportive instructor. Questions submitted from his online classes are answered quickly and completely. Second class with Dr. Horn, would take another in a heartbeat.
Dr. Horn is a little bit full of himself, and it shows in his lectures. He does cover a lot of material, but does it in an uninteresting way that made me fall asleep every class period. The tests were hard if you didn't read the books in depth, and a lot of reading was required.
I'm not sure why Dr. Horn has received such high marks. His comments are abrasive and extremely offensive. It seems as though if you don't share his political views, his "constructive criticism" is unnecessarily harsh. His intentions are to hurt you, not to help you. This class was pretty easy; however, I would never take a course from him again.
Dr. Horn definitely knows what he's doing. He doesn't just go by textbook, but his exams were the hardest thing I've ever done. I had a B+ to an A all quarter until the first set of exams. After extensive notes and keeping up with the material and recorded lectures, I failed miserably. If you need help, ask for it. Don't hesitate!
Classes consist of pure lectures and not much else; however, he links recordings of his lectures online. The quizzes can be taken without ever having picked up the textbooks, the exams though might be a bit tricky since they're timed, not giving you too much time to look up every q. Btw, he is HOTHOTHOT. (Insert big red chili pepper here)
Horn is well... not meant to be a teacher. He has incredibly long lectures where he kinda just ramble on like a waterfall of non-sense and then stops every five or so minuets and asks "Do you understand that?" No body understands what you just said however, No One! is awake to ask a question. Around 10 hours of reading a week. Stay away!
This class is extremely awesome! However, Dr. Horn is clear cut about certain views. Some may take his comments as offensive, but keep in mind that it is a political science class! He also like to teach you how your own facts can be considered a counterargument! Be careful in your wording and intentional of what you say, it is politics.
Dr. Horn knows his stuff. I never noticed him "taking sides", but he does know what he's talking about and is more than willing to help show you the different sides of arguments. Be prepared to read, a lot- not just the textbook or the accompanying book, but articles and reports. All very important, and not to be missed.
I would definitely recommend this class. Doctor Horn is a great professor that is always willing to help. I took this class online and had no problem. As long as you do your reading and keep up with the lectures, you'll do fine. Only three assignments and five tests for the whole class.
Dr. Horn is an amazing professor. Took his summer online class so it the work was pretty compact. Very clear on his class layout and when assignments were due. Theres a lot of reading, however I didnt mind because all of his exam answers come from the books, SO READ! The class was very interesting. PUT IN THE WORK & YOULL ACE THIS CLASS
Tests are tough because you spend most of the time re-reading through the questions to figure out what he's actually saying then you have to figure out the answer. He's very wordy with his instructions, isn't straight forward and simple. It's a bit overwhelming to get started on a paper just by looking at the instructions. Pretty boring, beware!
While this class is very hard, It is also very helpful in life. I learned so much about our government I was never taught in high school. This class is important to take for school and for being a good citizen. He is a very nice teacher and he is very helpful if you ask for help. I took it online (first time too) so it was a challenge but worth it.
Tests are very detailed so if you didn't complete the reading you will definitely fail the exam. I took him online and every time I would email him, his replies weren't helpful. The lectures bore me to sleep and if you're taking a full load of classes i would advice against taking this class, it takes a lot of time and effort.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. His lectures were long and boring. There was a GIANT amount of reading. The tests were very tough and took almost the entire time limit every time. Not an easy A. Lots of work but he is a great teacher. I learned a lot in this class.
Every time I came into class to watch a lecture I expected my mind to be blown. Political Science is some pretty intense stuff. Dr. Horn made it pretty awesome with how in depth and serious politics is. I would take more political classes if he offered more.
I would recommend taking his class as a hybrid, not online... He's an awesome man and teacher, and I loved everything I learned and that he taught. However, I dreaded his lectures. It could be up to 4 hours of lecture a week, and for each of those hours there was really only 20 minutes of substance to them... Very, very wordy and tangential.
Very passionate, yet strives to be non-biased. Great lecturer but tends to get too wordy. You will walk away having learned something and with the 101 course, it is a great intro to politics and ideologies. Exams aren't the easiest, but not too difficult. Lots of reading and outside work. Would recommend, but put in the effort.
Dr. Steven Horn is a great Political Science Professor. I have taken 101 online and 202 hybrid with him and recommend the hybrid option. He has passionate lectures and was respectful of all different opinions. The exams are great because you can take them two times which makes it easy to get an A. The term paper is long but he is a nice grader.
By far the best lectures I've attended were from Dr. Horn. He has a way of speaking that captures your attention even if it is a topic you aren't necessarily interested in. It is clear that he is passionate about what he does and isn't just in it for the paycheck. Very critical grader but that is a good thing. Also, LOTS of reading, just FYI.
Dr. Horn is one of the best professors I've ever had. His solid speaking skills are evident during lectures and he provides excellent feedback. To those who complain about his "excessive" reading assignments: WAKE UP, you're in college not middle school. I enjoyed taking his entire Political Science series (POLS101, POLS202, POLS203).
Horn is a tough teacher to some, if you're just another unenthusiastic highschooler taking his class because you have to you might still get an A but it will be harder. If you love politics, participate, and READ (like me) you will get an A, no problem. Spend significant time on your essay too. His tests are easy if you read. Lectures are important
Heavily biased towards a specific way of thinking, but will let you fight with him on issues you disagree with him and allows frequent class discussions. Very fun class for those who like politics or political science. Warning: your final paper will be graded down if he disagrees with you politically. Try to pick something not too controversial.
Horn gives so much good feedback. I'm not really interested in political science but had to take it. It's not as hard as it seems. There is a lot of assigned content to read, however, you don't need to read word for word (in my opinion), and the tests are super easy. Overall, super easy! There are only a few assignments due over the whole course.
Dr. Horn's Polisci 202 class was incredibly lecture heavy, partly due to the fact it is a hybrid course. However, unlike most lecture based classes, all the information presented was interesting, pertinent to the unit, and directly related to the tests and quizzes. That being said, the better notes you take during them, the better you'll do.
Horn was a really difficult teacher and trying to balance the workload in this class with my other assignments proved impossible. There were far too many reading materials assigned every single week, and little to no guidance on what was expected in our writing. Many of us received the same vague advice on writing, sometimes word for word.
2nd time I had Horn, and I enjoyed it. You will learn a lot in his class, so that's the best part. However, he is very bias towards a certain way of thinking (that I even disagreed with), but honestly who isn't? That shouldn't affect your decision. Tests ARE your grade. I could say 3/4th of it will be online tests. Not hard, but normal. READ.
This is my first time with Horn, overall the experience was overwhelming yet very informing. Not much content (such as assignments) within this class, and the discussions and tests are purely your grade. Lots of content in terms of reading and lectures, regardless if you are taking online.
I took two of Horn's classes and I recommend them to EVERYONE! He is highly knowledgeable and clearly enjoys his classes. He records all of his lectures so you can revisit them on canvas, outside of class. He has one module per 2 weeks and a test at the end of ea. module. It is important to take notes on lectures, modules, and textbook! I loved it!
I'm currently in his HY Political Science 101 class and I really enjoy it. It pays off to participate and stay up to date on current events so you know more about his lectures. If you're good or familiar with European and american history then most of the content you cover is pretty easy to understand!
The only things we were graded on in 202 were his exams (there were 5) & the parts of the research paper. Honestly, not showing up to class on occasion will not completely plummet your grade but skipping a bunch will. He assigns a lot of reading and you just have to skim through it. I was a hybrid class so all exams were online & you had 2 chances.
I took his Political Science 101 class, I got an A. It's not super hard, but expect to write a fair amount. He lectures a lot, so if you tend to zone out I would recommend his online version, he records the lectures and puts them on canvas, this way you can rewind when you miss things and speed it up. Granted you can do this with in-person too.
Dr. Horn is very knowldgable, well-spoken, and clear about what he wants you to get out of the class. There is a lot of reading but most or all of it is relevant to class content. Tests are straight forward and easy if you read and pay attention. There were 6 modules and a test at the end of each, and a short paper. Apply yourself and you'll get A
Long, timed exams' wording makes them somewhat confusing. Lots of reading. He seems go be open minded and doesn't grade based on your opinion, he grades based on meeting assignment requirements. Very willing to help and answer questions and quick replies to emails. Required extra credit and doing the work/reading/listening, this class is easy.
If you like politics, this is the class for you. I took this class hybrid. Lectures were in-class. All work is online. Online text book is helpful. One large 8-10 page research paper, which you work on throughout the quarter. He is willing to help outside of class. Listen to lectures, and read all the chapters to pass! Lectures available online.
I took Political Science 101, and it was overwhelming at first because there's a lot of reading to do, but overall the class is pretty simple and clear. The exams are long, but he gives you more than enough time to finish them. They weren't hard at all, if you paid attention and read the articles. He gives good feedback too.
He assigns A LOT of reading with additional books beyond the textbook and through online sources, in addition to daily podcasts. You will learn a lot in this class and the tests and quizzes are fairly easy. The only thing is he lets his liberal bias show regularly but he acknowledges it and is respectful of differing opinions.
Dr. Horn is a very educated teacher and knows exactly what hes talking about. Given hes a political science teacher: he doesnt belittle your opinions, and in fact asks you to push back his arguments so everyone in the class can see both sides. He responds to his emails and is easily available if you just contact him and make an appointment.
All he does in class is talk. Class is soooooo boring. There is a lot of reading material. If you don't read you fail. Attendance is mandatory and part of your grade. I will never take him again. If you need to take a class try finding another professor. Learned nothing at all.
Biased but generally respectful of opposing views. Receive attendance pts for attending class. 8-10pg research paper with checkpoint deadlines throughout quarter. Online textbook required for answering ch questions but don't need to read to pass; use Quizlets. Midterm & final you're allowed to use any non-human resource. Class time is ALL lecture.
I actually had a nightmare about one of the comments he left on my research paper. But I needed the class to graduate. Good luck!
I took this class while taking classes at a university and for a 101 the workload was insane. I did more in this class than any of my other 300/400 level classes. I understand people are passionate about their line of work, but the workload of this 101 class of readings, extra articles/readings, podcast, lectures, etc. was just too much.
Felt like he knew a lot about political science during lectures, interesting current events & topics. The online textbook was long but unique & easy to read. Available to help with essay and made what he was looking for really clear. Definitely not a bad class or prof if you like poly sci or if its mandatory, but lots of lectures & reading.
Dr. Horn's online class is laid out very nicely. Graded on 5 exams and a research paper that was 8-10 pages with the majority of the quarter to work on it, with checkpoints throughout. LOTS of additional sources to the textbook, which included hours of videos, and articles varying in length. Exams were very specific but you get 2 attempts.
Very liberal professor that is almost disrespectful to other views. Assigns tons of articles and podcasts that are not on exams and you are not testes on them in any way. Pretty much talks the whole class, very boring for me personally. A lot of homework, but really only graded on exams and final paper which is about 800 words.
So many assignments that are boring. Midterm and Final exams are really difficult and oddly specific (so use the webtext it's helpful on exams). Read the extra assignments he gives because they show up on exams. One research paper 8-10 pages divided into 3 assignments (gives feedback if you email him). He does respond to emails in a timely manner
The class was fine overall, but the details for the final paper were annoyingly vague and contradicted itself.
Pretty boring class. Most people were on their phones during the lecture. The Textbook was boring, but easy to read. Theres a few Canvas discussion posts that arent too bad related to your final paper. Honestly, I didnt find that paper too difficult. It took me a lot of time, but I got an easy A on it. Just use a lot of sources to impress.
I had the privilege of getting my thesis refuted in front of the whole class via online lecture because it so deeply bothered Mr. Horn that I had a different opinion than him. Mr. Horn believes that he is God's gift to political science and that it's his job to tell everyone what to think-- it's hard to trust such blatantly biased teaching.
This class is a breeze! I expected to hate polisci bc I'm not normally political, but this completely changed me. Kind teacher, interesting lectures. Make sure to at least skim the assigned readings for the tests (ctrlF is your best friend)! Also, if you're struggling, look up quizlets since there's a lot of them that match the course/tests :)
Do not listen to people who claim Dr. Horn is "biased" and "too hard". This professor does play devil's advocate but that is just to get people thinking and ask themselves tough questions. I'm very progressive in politics and he played devil's advocate with me even. Watch the lecture videos and do the work and you will be more than fine.
Dr. Horn may have his own personal political views, but he does not make that evident at all during his class. He is a caring professor who wants to encourage students to further develop their way of thinking, to all sides of the political spectrum. He gives great feedback and you can always ask him for help.
If you're a thorough student, this class is super hard. I took notes on everything to use on the test (took it at home-- I'm not positive if you're "allowed" to use notes) but this was easily the most work I've ever had to do for a class (4.0 student). 5-7 hrs of reading + notes a day. Chapters are long. Cried sometimes. Learned a lot though.
Do not take Pol. Sci. with Dr. Horn. So much material. If you do take this class with him, do not take any other classes that same quarter. Hours of recorded lectures each week. Articles, podcasts, novels, etc, and it is all fair game for the tests. Also, you need to get a 96% in the class for an A. Not a 92-93, which is the normal range, but a 96%
Offers three opportunities of extra credit throughout the quarter. A ten page paper due halfway through the quarter and two exams over the textbook reading along with other assigned videos/readings. Overall, I learned plentiful about american government. Whatever you do, don't fall behind! Hope this helped.
In this class, you basically read a lot from the textbook and then watch professor Horn's lecture for more insight on how the textbook information relates to current politics. He expects you to be aware of what's going on in the USA daily. Just do the readings and do especially well on your research essay and you will be fine.
His class was set up in a very interesting way. LOTS of readings and videos every week and lectures are lengthy. I found it a little difficult to retain a lot of info but quizlet definitely helped. This class definitely wasnt my favorite and it felt disconnected. I dont really recommend, but there arent much options for professors in this field.
This class was very material heavy, but if you demonstrate basic understanding of the content and give a solid effort then you'll be fine. Dr. Horn is very passionate and knowledgeable about political science. His enthusiasm in the lectures made me really enjoy the class! The textbook was pretty dull, but the other assigned books were awesome.
I am a student with a 4.0 grade average, but this class was beyond understandable even for a gifted kid. Lack of organization. Professor Horn does not take student feedback at all. One of the test questions was how many times he quoted someone in the lecture. A very unfair teacher and class. If you are to take his class, take it alone.
Horn was very formal and the textbook was crazy boring. You learn a lot more than you think you would need to know, but aye we'll take. Lectures are quite long so be prepared. All in all, you just got to get the work done as it was a hs requirement for me to do.
Be prepared to take lots of notes. The lectures are very long and boring. He also expects his students to know what is going on with the news.
Have to listen and read material. Lots of reading given.
Very heavy material. Lots of reading, and I mean lots of listening and reading. Very difficult and has silly exam questions and their worth 2 points each. Exams are 40 question to 40 min very stressful
The textbook quizzes aren’t that hard but take at least an hour and a half to do there are 10 of them worth 10 points each. Then there’s a research paper that’s 8-10 pages long worth 260 points all together and a final and midterm worth 120 points each. So you have to do well on the tests and paper to pass. Go to pcorrine on quizlet for help
Get ready for a lot of reading material. Even if he doesn't express you need to read something, if he links it, read it! It will highly end up on the midterm or final. He also expects a 8-10 research paper so start working on it early. He's open towards helping out though if you reach out.
Tough class. Workload is pretty heavy and overwhelming at times. Tests are 80 points-40 questions and 1hour for each test, you get 2 attempts for each test (even the final) which helps. The lectures are an hour for each one with about two videos for each subject lecture. Class discussions are easy-ish. I recommend Quizlet for ALL tests and e-text
I wish Dr. Horn gave students the opportunity to discuss information (graded discussions would be nice!) Lecture heavy, very good at giving feedback though. The textbook is online. Wouldn't take again due to the structure of the class.
Great professor! I've had him for three classes and he was my poli sci advisor. His classes usually follow a similar pattern of by-weekly tests and one big essay at the end. Just make sure you read the material, spend enough time on your essay research, and watch the lectures.
dr. horn was a nice professor. i took the american gov class online over summer quarter. there is a lot of content to cover - lectures, textbook chapters and extra sources that WILL be included in your midterm & final. take notes! biggest thing that matters is a 8-10 pg research paper, worth the most points. you can ask for feedback on the paper.
There is a lot, if you are not a reader you can survive with quizlet but I barely received a C. I was taking 20 credits this quarter and this class did not make my life easy. He was also very opinionated as well and I felt kind of like an outcast, I mean I don't feel like being judged for an hour of my day, so sometimes I didn't go.
Only three things affect your grade, a huge research paper, and two exams. If you are apathetic about politics, this class is not for you, needs a good base knowledge. Lectures are very one-sided and there aren't many interactive elements. I liked Steven as a lecturer though, as he was able to give good examples.
He is very intelligent, and the material he discussed went over my head sometimes, but he wanted us to succeed and would help whenever we asked. The coursework seemed overwhelming at first, but if you stayed caught up it was completely manageable. There weren't many assignments, we just had a few discussions and an exam at the end of every module.
I really loved his lectures. I took this class a while back right when Russia was beginning to invade Ukraine, and it was so incredibly helpful to have him there talking us all through everything. The class was hard; there was lots of reading and papers, but he is a fair grader and made me a much better writer with all of his feedback.
Very one-sided lectures, very liberal and homework assignments reflect that. If you are not left/democratic, this class is not welcoming to you. Lots of things you must read/listen, two big exams affect your grade, plus a long research paper at the end. Long lectures using power point slides, most people don't pay attention. Do not recommend.
Dr. Horn is a great professor who gives good feedback. There's 4 exams, 2 smaller writing assignments, and at the end of the quarter there's a larger exam and a research paper. Even though this was my first college course, I was able to maintain an A the whole quarter. If you put effort into the work and take notes during lectures you'll be fine.
You can tell he's very passionate about what he teaches and truly wants to make an impact on each of his students. He isn't a very harsh grader, and he takes time to carefully give each student useful feedback.
For my class, there was a lot of extra side work. There was extra videos, papers, and articles we had to read each week, and you would never know if it would be used on the exam. I think the homework was pretty easy it was just really time-consuming and there was a lot of it. Overall, hes a good professor but needs to fix his class structure.
This class was quite lecture and reading heavy, even more than an advanced English class. The political terms were often confusing, and weren't explained super well. The exams and quizzes cover a TON of material, which made them more difficult. I would recommend this class to someone who already knows lots about politics, but not to a beginner.
Class looks like a lot of work at the beginning, but it's manageable once you get into the swing of it. Two multiple-choice online exams (both have Quizlets available), one research paper (just follow the instructions and rubric to get an A). Pretty easy class honestly, don't know why people hate it so much. Would take again.
WARNING: I'm a PoliSci major so I'm gonna have good things to say regarding the class. Dr. Horn is very kind and easy to access outside of class. He gives clear instructions and feedback. Lectures are a bit too long. He doesn't offer a lot of test prep for this class compared to 101. Assigned materials are easy to find.
I would say as a person who isn't great at history, this class had a lot to read and there were about 5 exams total with a final paper at the end. The lectures were pretty long and you needed at least 20+ hrs each week. I loved his lectures because they were interesting to listen to! Would recommend to someone who's strength is history! 100/10!
Bro is a chill guy, theres a multiple choice midterm and final and a research paper. The homework is pretty easy too. Other than the paper I found everything easy to manage.
Dr. Horn's POL202 class has a heavy lecture-based format, but he provides clear instructions and good feedback. Assignments like the long research paper and exams make up the bulk of the grade. unstuck study was helpful for study prep alongside the textbook.
You can tell Dr. Horn loves the subject and always offers to help students as long as they reach out. I stopped watching the lectures and still got an A, but I would recommend watching them as they are pretty entertaining, just really time consuming. The paper is rough, but a good opportunity to dive into something you care about.
Took his class as my first ever college class (running start). It was lowkey a little tough because the work that's due each week takes a while. There's a long reading due every week. Also, a research paper due at the end of the quarter, but you have the entire quarter to work on it. He's very educated and respectful and I enjoyed his lectures.
There was a lot of work and be prepared to write and try to not take this online because it is kind of terrible but the professor was good besides that.
Graded off of two exams, 1 paper that's split across 3 assignments, and chapter readings. The workload isn't too bad, and the exams are multiple-choice and cover the textbook chapters, video lectures, and article stuff he assigned.
Very lecture heavy course. A large research paper is due at the end of the quarter, so working consistently on it is a necessity. I found Dr. Horn to be quite biased in his lectures and course material, but he still graded the research paper fairly based on effort and quality, which I found to be very respectable.
Professor Horn is an educated guy, but oh my goodness, does he have the most atrocious class structure. He has mandatory lectures, but all he does is reiterate the textbook without any class engagement whatsoever. He is also EXTREMELY left-biased, and I don't mind that except for when he makes constant snarky comments regarding the right.
Really nice! A bit of a rambler, but his lectures are interesting. He seems to love what he teaches and doesn't grade super harshly. He gives a lot of wiggle room as long as there's good communication if there's an issue. A bit of reading and homework, 1 essay, but overall not bad.
Professor Horn is my favorite teacher at EVCC. He is caring and understanding, as any teacher should be. The content was very interesting. It is not necessary to do everything to get a good grade in the class. You can afford to skip Democracy Now! and some other aspects as you deem fit. Pay most attention to lectures and the book readings.
Kind guy, very passionate about what he teaches. The lectures can be a lot to process along with the many readings assigned. Tests are not necessarily difficult, just sometimes specific about things said in class so it's important to take notes. Besides tests, only 3 discussions online with the 3rd being an essay but nothing to extreme.
