this is the worst teacher i've ever had. the best part is he only talks about his own history. he is also a tuff marker.

Wears his watch over his shirt. Completely useless class, unless you wanna have him dictate the book. Sleazy old man. Talks about his make believe girlfriend.

Do me a favour and don't listen to anyone who says he is anything less than terrible. If I could pick any one teacher that I dislike the most, it would be him. Prepare to memorize about 11 chapters for your midterm (theres no final), work your @$$ off for a hundred page project and get humiliated when you present it in front of the class.Stay away

I do not care who said he is a good prof he is not, I know more about his personal life and his suppose rich friends than I learnt about the actual marketing class.....

the bigget **** in the world. u work ur ass off and end up with a C. he's a litlle man with little to offer to the world...yet has a huge ego and a need to put down people. U SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF URSELF.

absolute jerk!! he tells you to contact him if you have questions, but when you do he never replies. In my entire group, only 1 STUDENT got a grade higher than B+!!!! and there were 50 of us!!! I consider myself a hard working student and only ended up with a C+. if you don't say things in the exact words he wants, you get a 0. NEVER TAKE HIM!

SOOO useless, classes are useless. He takes pleasure in putting people down and giving them horrible grades for no reason, even if the work is properly done, if it isn't in his exact words, he won't accept anything!!

His lectures are far from what he expects in quiz or final. Lectures are vague. I rarely attended the class because lectures were irrelevant. I got an A- because I read the book.

He's a really good business man but not a really good teacher. Don't bother going to his class cause he only talks about personal experiences and not about the actual course material. REALLY hard grader and always wants to have the last word so don't even bother arguing with him or raising your hand in class.

Impossible to get better than an A- in his class. He doesn't believe in giving A's because your answer's will never be enough for him. If you're comfortable with a B as your grade, then go for it, but don't expect more than that.

If your grades matter to you, avoid at all cost! He is an extremely tough marker, to the point of not being fair. Super unclear about what he wants and contradicts the course outline and himself at every turn. Impossible to reach for questions or explanations. Not teacher/prof material!

Worst teacher I have had in a long time. No need to go to his class just read the textbook and you will be fine. He just keeps going with his boring stories.

He's an extremely tough grader to where its not even fair, he doesn't go over the material at all only takes about himself, makes the midterm and quizzes himself, they are all extremely hard and with a tough grader don't even think about getting over a 70, class average is always under 60.

Very knowledgable but he is a tough grader (and doesn't explain his corrections), get ready to memorize the book, no point on going to class since he talk about himself, he only cares about his opinion, doesn't prepare you for the final AT ALL! avoid him if you want to keep a good average!!!!

he's knows his stuff, but he doesn't teach the class, just talks about himself, and his personal experiences. his gives the the topic's for the quizzes and midterm, not that it matters because his test are impossible, will ask you questions that have nothing to do with the topic. doesn't prepare you at all for the final. avoid at all possible!!!!!

The midterm consists of multiple choice short answer and long answer. He tells you what to study for the multiple choice, and GIVES you the short answer and long answer question beforehand. Some of the questions were NOT what he gave you to prepare for and for the multiple choice, it was NOT what he tells you to study. The test was literally a scam

I had a lot of trouble with professor laing. he name-calls, and focuses on seemingly insignificant information the whole semester. his lectures are long-winded and hardly ever on subject. his inability to use technolgoy is frusturating. it's hard to know what he wants. but he likes to get you riled up, and off-subject.

The worst classroom experience: -Thinks he's expert. Doesn't understand/how to teach the material -Trolls (deliberately offends) the classroom -No rubrics/explanations AT ALL. Grades however he feels. -Try's hard to be your friend - but doesn't respect you as a student -Disorganized, uninspiring, & insecure. & This will reflect on your grades :)

Do not take this teacher. He does not care about his students. There is a group project to do but he does not offer much help if you need it. The lectures are whatever, he gets sidetracked and babbles about his opinion. Try getting another teacher!

I never have a problem with professors, but this has been the most difficult, unclear, frustrating and pointless course I have ever taken. Prof. Laing is a nice professor but is incredibly unorganized, TERRIBLE with technology, and an EXTREMELY tough grader. This class is way too much work, unclear and difficult.

Terrible prof, isn't capable of using online ressources TO AVOID

I would have given Mr. Laing a 5 if it wasn't for the fact that he randomly reassigned me to a new group for the research report halfway through the course for no reason. I was unable to communicate with my new group so, in the end, I had nothing to turn in. The report is 25% of the final grade, so I just dropped the course. Thanks a lot, Steve! /s

He was probably one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Though he tries to make the class laugh, and sometimes succeeds, believe me you aren't laughing with him, he's laughing at you. He responds to emails dry and mean. He isn't polite. And won't help you if you have any questions. And he gives out bad grades, no matter the amount of work given.

Content simple but made difficult for no reason. Worst class I've taken so far. Overly sarcastic and unkind.

man talk too much, tough grader, his lectures and exams are completely the opposite. class is boring and spends class telling stories lol.

More concerned with "dunking" on the LGBTQ community than about the material in his own class. No student wants to hear your thoughts on gender or identity politics. Will ramble for half the class without even getting to the first slide. No clear grading criteria. Did not even provide a single PDF document on how to prepare for the final.

He is vague and a very harsh grader. It doesn't matter if you like his teaching style or not, he will bring your GPA down for nothing. Mark 201 is a piece of cake if you take any other teacher.

Do not take him!!! A tough grader for no reason and when you ask to get feedback for your quizzes and projects does not provide them. Spends the whole class talking about his opinion on various subjects nothing related to the course. States his opinions about the LGBTQ community, what he thinks about rape victimes and perpetrators. Do not take him.

extremely tough grader for aboslutely no reason. helpful and provides you with notes/feedback, but dont be fooled to think this enough to get a good grade because it isn't. His lecture are super hard to follow along because he goes off topic sometimes or gives his opinion and somehow doesn't really even talk about the course and its content.

Save your self the trouble and avoid. If all comm 211 sections that he doesn't teach is full, take the class the following semester.

Avoid at all costs! Doesn't have any concept of a good teaching method, just complains about world problems for 90% of the class. The other 10% is asking questions to students that only have one particular answer. No leeway on the answer. Very stubborn prof.

Avoid if you want to stay in JMSB. He thinks he's running a multi million dollar business in this course by being so strict on such an easy course. Don't take even if you have no other option. Our class average is 25% while other teachers its 80% and above.

Avoid at all costs; do not take him whatsoever! He is an extremely harsh grader! Don't take him if you want to get good grades. He often puts students in the spotlight, and sometimes, it's to the point that it's uncomfortable. I honestly believe that Prof. Laing is well educated and seems to know his stuff surrounding the business world. However, he fails to properly convey this knowledge to the students taking his class. He has unrealistic expectations for students' work when a lot of the details are missing from his outlines. I would recommend avoiding him.

Guys, even if this is the last professor available. Do not make the same mistake as me and take him. Students have warned me to not take him and I took him because his section was the only one left and available. He teaches nothing relevant to the course, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

If you have him, drop the class right away or try change teacher. I don't recommend him at all. He's a tough grader and will bring down your GPA. His grading is confusing, and it feels like he gives grades based on his mood. He also makes rude and condescending jokes and gets off topic a lot during class. Emphasis on harsh GRADER!!

Drop the class

A matter of time before this guy gets fired. He's not a good prof and is just there to complicate your life for nothing. Do yourself the favor and drop his class

I'd put 0 stars if I could

Take it from someone who got an A- in his class, DON'T TAKE HIM! His grading is nonsensical. He goes on uncomfortable political rants instead of teaching. The group project is an automatic C. Getting an A/B on the exams is only possible if you read the news for fun and come up with unique examples. STAY AWAY! I'm an outlier, you won't get an A/B.

He doesn't know how to teach!!! Does not follow his slides at all!! Dropped his course as soon as I got another class I was waitlisted for. Seems that he writes good reviews about himself to boost his RMP score. Very sad! :(

Ouf where to start... Barely reads or explains the slides given and often rambles on about personal stories that have very light connections to the material. Does not give more than 50% to anyone on the group project no matter how hard you try and his corrections are unreadable. No recommendations on how to prepare for the final, take another prof.

I rather eat my toenails than take this teacher again. Avoid at all costs.

Guys I promise, the only good reviews on here is him writing them about himself. Any course he teaches isn't difficult, but he delivers the content in the worst way, and doesn't know how to grade. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR. YOUVE BEEN WARNED. This guy is terrible

Tough grader. rude to students, doesn't lecture on the course material, passes the entire class talking about personal experiences. Goes on rants about his opinions on politics and lbtq community. Gave us the professor evaluation sheet only a few classes in. I asked for feedback on exam, sent 3 emails, he completely ignored them, never responded.

First off his teaching is horrible, does't cover any actually course content just talks and makes students participate. But you have to go to his classes because he gives out quiz questions or gives out extra marks if you go to class. He grades very hard and does not want student to succed in hs class.

Almost every class I had to attend because he grades for participation, but I left the class learning nothing. He just states examples of his life and barely teaches the material leaving everyone confused. He is a very harsh grader especially when it comes to the group report. Makes no sense of what he expects. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
