He has been an amazing professor. He relates everything to music and makes the class interesting. He has a tough essay toward the end of the semester about our major but based on students having a hard time he gave us plenty of extra time. The other essays are easier and during his meetings he gives good feed back. I really felt like I learned.

Professor Lessner is not only a great person but a great teacher. He's always there for his students. He inspired me. I highly recommend him to anyone!

He is super cool. He loves music, especially hip hop. Not many English professors have a theme for the class, but his class is mostly based on music and how literature is applied in music. His class is also really fun. Definitely recommend.

He uses hip hop music a lot to teach which makes the class a lot of fun. We would listen to music and analyse the lyrics. I would totally take this class again. His lectures are not boring at all. (A on all) I bought all the textbooks but tbh you dont even need any. when he asks you to bring them in, just look to your neighbor cuz he only uses them once.

It is English class so you do write papers too. You cannot run away from that because it is good practice. He cares and loves what he teaches to students. If you love Hip-hop and rap music theme, then he is the guy you should go to. If it wasn't for him, i would still hate Literature,but not anymore.

No discussion board nor exams. However, lots of papers, which is kind of expected. Be prepared to write 4 papers with 8 pages at least per each.

You will only have a total of 4 essays for the semester. He loves to give feedback. He is available if you ask and if very very nice. He absolutely loves hip hop, so there will be lots of class discussion about hip hop artists. He was very helpful with the essay guidelines. This class is an easy A and you will love him!!

VERY chill teacher, NO exams just 4 papers. His class is a hip-hop theme and we watch music videos and analyze lyrics to songs. He is VERY accessible outside of class and VERY caring. I am taking him again for ENG 125. Attend every paper conference to get an A. Also, cancels class for paper convos and extends deadlines to your papers. TAKE HIM!!!!!

One of the best teachers I have ever had. Trust me. He is very caring towards his students and very understanding. Class is an easy A. 4 papers and no exams. Final is a short presentation and is very easy. If you don't get an A or a B, you didn't put in the effort. Almost everyone gets an A. Extends deadlines for papers. I'm taking him for ENG 112.

One of the best professor in NOVA. His lecture is all about rap, hip hop and African American culture from the past. His grading is great and amazing. Very friendly and caring. Take his class, you will not regret.

The best professor I've ever come across at NOVA. He is so sweet, caring, and very understanding. We had 3 major papers for his class that were extremely easy. Didn't use any of the books I purchased, but his class was still a lot of fun. I'm taking his 112 class next semester and can't wait!

Super nice and caring. 3 papers and 1 final remix project as final exam. No homework and you do need to rent or buy some books to read but we almost never use it (I just use the free version online). He meet with you in paper conference to improve your draft. Show up for peer review for full credits. That's it, super easy.

Professor Lessener is always there to help you out. Eng 125 is about writing course and you are expected to write a lot. This prof was helpful for me.

Probably one of the best and easiest ENG class you can take. There are only 3 papers and a remix project for one of those paper. For final, just show up and share the project in a circle. He have paper conference where he meet with you and point out your mistakes so you can improve the paper before turning it in which makes it so EASY to get an A

I took his English 111, and his English 112. He is great at being clear with the assignments and what he wants from you. Showing up and participating is a must.

This class is an Easy A. He's one of the nicest professor's. The only negative is that you don't really know your grade till the last day. 4 papers but they weren't hard. No exams or quizzes, just attend class. No homework besides the papers. Also you don't need to buy the books even though he says you need it lol.

Nice guy who really really really loves hip-hop and music so if you like that you'll enjoy the class a lot, if not it can be pretty boring. 4 papers and no tests easy grader. We hardly ever used the books so if you wanna save money don't get them. You should get an A.

took an 8wk class, it was fast but he's an amazing professor I'd recommend everyone to take him. it was a fun class, there's still work just like any other English class. make sure to take advantage of his office hours and paper conferences, and take notes during discussions to incorporate into your essays.

He's a really chill professor and he teaches with hip hop music and you analyse music and write about it. You gotta get the textbooks because you use them there's only 3 and not bad priced. Overall you need to put the work in and you had the choice to write in letter form as essays. He loves music and he's hip. Lectures are good and not too bad. ;)

Prof Lessner is very chill. Most of the time, you will be doing class/group discussions. Gives outline/ideas and expectations. The writing assignments are not hard at all. The only bad thing is that he posted grades very late. Also, dont rush to get books for class readings because he might not get through all of them, we ended up only using 1 book

A passionate professor and made a lot of things easier in this quarantined semester. A typical week in class is reading select books but not entirely, which I loved. You have 4 papers to do throughout the semester, with the final being 4th paper.

If you see him teaching any English class you need to take. Please take him!!! You just need to do your work and try your best. He will help you with your paper. He listened to all of my ideas even though my ideas are weird. Then he suggested some more ideas. Even now when I left Nova, I still respect and remember he is one of Nova best professors.

I feel that the pandemic def affected his potential as a prof. The class was still great & I learned but I could tell he was frustrated at times. There are 4 writings to do throughout the semester, many readings & is responsive. One downside- grades slowly. Professor Lessner's class was a very easy class. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to pass with an easy grade. You don't have to attend class, just have to submit your work. I took Professor Lessner's Eng 111 class. He was very helpful and and although we had lots of papers to write, it was very spaced out and there wasn't other work during these assignments. There is reading you need to do, but it's not very difficult. Mr Lessner was very chill and I'd take his class again.

Ive taken two English classes at NOVA and they are incomparable. By far one of the best professors NOVA has to offer. This is a class that youll definitely enjoy.

I love how he incorporates music into his class, plus you get to really express your love for your favorite music artist and songs in the papers he assigns. So if you love music, definitely take his class. Be aware that you wont know your grade throughout the semester, as he grades mostly everything at the end. Such a nice and caring professor!

Dr. Lessner is extremely sweet and as long as you participate and willing to work you will pass. There were 3 major papers and he will provide great feedback on each paper. There is heavy reading and he will know if no one reads. Attendance is mandatory and you may not know your grades until the semester is over. He is super kind tho.

This teacher is such an easy A class like you would have to try to fail his class. The only grades you have are essays so if you are shit at essays he will still give you a decent grade for it.

In this course, there are three papers you should submit. And one thing I recommend is if you like to listen to music, that will be perfect. Because most of papers are about to writing music. You should attend a class. Because if you miss a class over two times, then he will give you downgrade. And he is really slow grader. But he gives good grade.

Took professor Lessner for both ENG 111 and 112. He wants his students to succeed, his feedback is very helpful. You will need a few books but they are not too pricey and interesting to read, I recommend all the courses he may teach!

HE"S AMAZING. there are 4 papers only, no exams, no GP, and no HW. he loves music and his papers are on music. for every paper you have to write and draft and sign up for his one on one draft discussion where he helps you go over your paper and fix whatever needs to be fixed before turning in the final draft. TAKE HIM and you'll pass.

Dude hes legit the best English professor I've ever had. You can tell that he loves what he does and cares about his students in the class. His feedback on essays are fantastic because he will never tell you something is bad, instead he will tell you what you could work on. AND the class is based a lot on music. I highly recommend taking him.

Mr.Lessner is great and understanding but he gives out a lot of homework. They are mostly about music but it's still a lot, the only problem is that he sucks at grading. but there are only 3 essays about music and you can sign up for paper conferences! Overall just do the essays and homework and you will pass.

Cares about his students. The HW assignments which most of them aren't graded are for u to generate ideas for ur in-class discussions. He teaches u how to break down any writing assignment to create a solid piece of writing. The 3 essays u write are a great learning experience for new writers. Overall great prof. Highly recommend.

Professor Lessner was awesome! I had him for both ENG 111 and ENG 112. He is such a cool guy. He is all about rap which is great for music lovers and class was always fun and never boring!

This class is an easy A if you do the work. This class does require a lot of writing and group activities, but it all connects to the papers you will write. This professor sets his students up for success. He's clear in what he's looking for in his papers and he also gives great feedback to help you understand what to do to improve in your writing.

Easy A if you do all the work and listen to how he wants his papers. He is a very slow grader though. I got an A in the class, but all my assignments were not graded. I only received feedback on one paper and out of all the assignments that we did in class, this professor only graded 5 of them.

Took him for the Hip-hop lit course, he put me on to some great music! He is strict about attendance, coming in on time, & turning assignments in on time so you will lose points if you fail to do so. His assignments were fun though & the lectures & discussions were quite thought-provoking. I definitely have a deeper appreciation for Hip-hop now.

Very knowledgable professor. I took his ENG 225 Hip-Hop Literature. He is very strict about attendence and due dates. There are several books that you will have to read for assignments. He also assigns 3 major papers towards the end of the semester, so be prepared for that. I definetly have a greater appreiciation for Hip-Hop! He gives extra credit

I loved Professor Lessner. Very passionate about Hip-hop and music so thats what he chooses the topics for the class. Very kind and provides a lot of feedback on essays and gives so many chances to bring your grade up. He also is not a tough grader so I highly recommend his class. I would 100% take him again and I hope I get the chance to later on.

Easily one of the best English professors at NOVA. Follow rubrics and directions and you'll do great, most of his essay subjects are very open ended and encourage you to be creative and unconventional. He gives great feedback, and I would REALLY suggest taking advantage of his optional office hour meetings when essays are due.
