Great instructor! He makes the class interesting and is very straight forward. No ambiguity in this class. Take him if at all possible.
I wouldn't take this class if you have other high demand classes, his lectures are very scattered, notes are awful and he tries to be funny when he's not, test aren't bad, but he took 2 months to give our class the first test out of 6 total unit tests, than he gave us a week for most tests to learn a whole unit! Our class didn't do so well.
Can't dress, can't teach what else is there to say. He likes to make pet name for students and finds himself funny. Waits until the end to get all his test in a hurry. I learned nothing........
Was a tough class, but if you study and attend class everyday-you can do fine. Test were a little difficult, but get extra credit that helps.
This class requires alot of studying, but if u study u'll do fine on the tests. and if u dont, his extra credit really makes a difference. Only complaint is he lectures fast and i had a hard time getting it all down! He is a nice guy and easy to get a hold of
Do not take him... you will fail
very very hard.. do not take this man.. you will be waisting your money
The teacher was nice and helpful.
A&P is a very indepth class that takes a lot of studying and commitment regardless of the teacher. Mr. Lewis is straight forward, fair and makes class interesting. If you study and know the information you will do well.
He doesn't follow the book. He plays favorites. He makes inappropriate comments. He makes you attend lab for the points, even if you have your mom's funeral to attend. Dry sense of humor. He's actually very smart, but I'm sure he is lonesome because of all the inappropriate comments he makes.
He is very organized. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY and you will do well. His test are straightforward and the bonus points can help if you need it. He has a VERY odd sense of humor and definitely makes inappropriate comments. Again, STUDY, STUDY, STUDY. Use the models and his internet sources!! An A is very possible in this class.
the class is hard. needs alot of time to get an A. he doen't follow the book. most of his test come from the lecture. he lectures too fast but pay close attention. make sure you don't miss his lab to earn an extra pionts.
Class lecture is organized and fast in pace, however, his use of blackboard makes him the most easy to access prof I have had yet. His discussion board is set up to post notes and questions, and he is very quick to respond...overall the class is easy if you pay attention, study, and make use of the tools he has set up
Keep your GPA, don't take him.
I took Med Terminology online with this teacher. We did not use the book much at all. I was advised to follow the flashcards, but most were not even on test. He did not respond to questions within timely manner.
You do NOT want to take Stephen Lewis for A&P. His exams are very complicated and he tests you over things that are not mentioned in class. It's 1/2 way through the semester, and 1/2 the class has already dropped. I am making arrangements to take A&P again over the Summer at JCCC.
This professor is very organized, but doesn't follow the book. He has you study a ton of material that doesn't show up on the exam. He's very nice and seems to know this subject very weell, but I'd still recommend taking another professor for A&P.
Bad teacher. Don't take him.
His teaching style moves the class along the 1 1/2 hour lecture seems like 30 at the most. You have to study in this class to pass but you pay nearly $600 to take this class. Who doesnt want to do well? I mean like an AB orC. If you study his grades accuretly reflect what type of student you truly are. You can use diff A&P books. Tate Seeley prfer
Do not take this class in the summer! It is a lot of information to take in. Unless you can spend the majority of your time on it with no other responsibilities such as family and work, take it during a regular 16-week semester. He is a very difficult teacher.
Lewis is a great A&P teacher! He is very knowledgable on his subject and presents it really well. His tests are easy if you study his lecture. He never tests you on anything that he did not mention in Lecture. He also Hints and emphasize what will be on the test! I never had A&P in my life and dreaded that class but i ended up with an A!
This teacher was awful! His tests were ridiculously hard and he got fired for the semester he taught our class! He was put on suspension for discriminating against a students ethnic background! He gave people in the class nicknames and would make fun of you if ya asked a question. If he didnt get fired for our class i would of gotten a C or below.
Mr. Lewis is a really good teacher. His tests are straight from lecture and notes/labs and he provides lots of opportunity for extra credit. It is very possible to do well in this class and get an A. He did not get fired in 2010 that I am aware of -- he was a wonderful teacher who presented information in an easy to understand format.
Mr. Lewis is rude and condescending. He answers and asks questions in the rudest tone of anyone I've ever met, let alone a teacher. He is not helpful at all. I would never recommend anyone take his class and will question my future enrollment at Penn Valley because of him.
Mr.Lewis is a very terrible teacher. He was rude, cocky, arrogant. He never uses the text, complete waste of money on a textbook and class.DO NOT take this teacher, no matter how smart you think you are, just dont.
The class is hard, but you can get an A if you study and make use of the bio lab. He gives you study guides for each unit and extra credit chances in lab. Take lots of notes and you'll do fine.
This was the first science class I had ever taken. Very challenging but definitely doable. Prof Lewis definitely knows what he is talking about. However his communication style outside of lecturing is lacking. Bonus: his outfits will keep you entertained if his lectures dont ;)
This class could have been a lot harder. The exams were mostly multiple choice with one or two short answer. There were lab practicals on every exam which required you to know the answers from memory. There were usually about 20 lab practical questions and about 50 multiple choice questions followed by one or two short answer questions. I got an A.
Exams are fair and cover textbook as well as lecture. He doesn't test over material not covered in lecture. Mostly multiple choice exams with a couple short answer on each test. Highly recommend this teacher. You should not take a class of this type unless you have a strong interest in it because it is hard material if you don't like to study.
Never take him or his classes. Very hard. Feels like he is above everyone else, like a know it all. Not student/teacher friendly nor approacable. He shoves the syllabus down your throat and the tests are HARD!
Overall, fairly good. He taught the information well and the tests were fair. I recorded his lectures in class, but I'm not sure that helped me much. With him, I would strongly suggest you study the labs, and make flash cards! There were some things that struck me the wrong way about him though. . . but overall, I would probably take him again.
He loves the PV Cafeteria, In order to take Lewis Class, you have to put in the work, he is very organized, so its best you should be too. The exams are things he did go over on the lecture & lab. Take Notes! He also place excellent notes on blackboard. Any A&P,HA book is fine to use in his class. He is helpful, ask him questions. I received a B.
Excellent teacher. Mr. Lewis has a dry and funny sense of humor, he is passionate about teaching but he will not do the work for you. He gives you notes and many resources to study from. Do the work and pay attention and an A is completely possible. His test are fair and challenging. I enjoyed this class and felt Mr. Lewis was a great teacher.
His lectures are engaging and he is very funny. If you take notes and study them, you will have no trouble with the tests. He also posts his own notes online, which are very helpful. You get 5 lab points for every class and any points over 100 at the end of the semester are extra credit. I really liked him and felt he was a very effective teacher!
If you put in effort you should do ok. Dont bother asking him to explain anything. Acts superior over every student. Makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. Goes off topic frequently. Very hard to learn from. Students shouldnt be afraid/embarassed to ask questions. Tests are 100 pts & only have 60 questions. Be prepared to teach yourself.
This professor is very disrespectful he often would make jokes about students and acted as if we were incompetent if we had questions. He tries to test on random details that you would think are not important. I was receiving a B- in this class when I dropped. Which for me is sad as I graduated with honors from University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Took his class for Med. Term. and it was an interesting class and the course work was pretty well defined, but I feel like it just went too fast. There were numerous terms to memorize in a short amount of time which I felt needed to be spread out more. Overall though the class was interesting & I did learn a lot.
Mr. Lewis is a great professor, he's very intelligent, very dry humor but entertaining. If you want to pass A&P and feel confident about the material take this class. He is not easy you MUST study and follow the objective list he provides. He also offers lots of extra credit points for labs so be in lab everyday!
This professor has no compassion for the military members and mandatory training they must perform. I would not suggest anyone sign up for his classes.
He is odd!! He likes to answer questions by asking another question. Also is not consistent in his grading. We worked on labs in groups and he would give full credit to 1 and not full to another. They were identical. Has a lot of trick questions on his tests. Does not follow anything in the text book. Basically self taught.
I liked this instructor so much for BIOL 100 that I made sure I had him as my instructor for BIOL 150. I loved his classes and the layout of them. I liked his qwerkiness and his responses to projects make you think even more about them. If I had a question, he always answered it. He also did a great job preparing us for tests.
I would strongly suggest finding another professor unless you want to teach yourself. His teaching strategies consist of reading straight from a power point and that's it. No homework to help you understand the material, no extra help. He is very sarcastic in a rude way. If you ask for help he makes you feel like you are stupid.
It's a tough class, but not impossible to pass with an A or B. Take notes, print and read the notes he posts for you online and make them your bible. I began to score high Bs just from studying his notes and labs. Study your labs, there will be questions from them on the test. Funny guy, I like him more as the semester goes on. Would take again.
I really disliked this class and teacher. There was zero communication or help, and if he did respond it was brief, rude, or shoving syllabus in your face even if the question wasn't related. There is SO much to learn with short tests. No way to cover any of EVERYTHING to be learned. Very difficult, Must work hard, and learn EVERYTHING.
Make sure you attend every class. Each lab is worth 4 points. These will help your grade! There are extra credit labs at the end semester. Labs can be difficult and he does not normally help with the answers. Lecture is interesting but dry. Pay attention and take good notes. Tests are confusing and he will add questions to try to trick test taker.
Mr. Lewis is nice but very frustrating on tests. You absolutely MUST attend every lecture and take thorough notes. Tests are extremely unpredictable. Tests don't cover things that seems important, very difficult to study for. I'm a straight A student but this will be my first C. Questions are answered with questions. Take someone else if you can.
It that s a very difficult class
He is very in consist with his grading, he would grade the labs and count one persons wrong and another right when they are the same. He answers questions with another question and pretty much reads from the slides when lecturing.
I was skeptic of taking a class with Prof. Lewis initially, but I can honestly say he was a great professor. You won't get a good great if you don't do your part, but he is great at explaining things, giving quirky ways to remember things, and keeping your attention. You'll have to work for a good grade, but it's doable. He gives you what you need.
I hate Professor Lewis. He is condescending and immature. He likes to put trick questions on his tests and also likes to have test questions that have nothing to do with what you need to know. I highly recommend avoiding this class. Take it with someone else if you can.
Mr. Lewis didn't explain anything that was going to be on his tests. They were all unpredictable. The projects had nothing to do with medical terminology whatsoever. He is a very tough grader and inconsistent. I would not recommend his class to anyone.
Honestly one of the worst teachers I've ever had. I studied extremely hard and on each test the material that was in the notecards, textbook, and online textbook were not even on test, so I had no idea what to study. When asked how to raise my grade and what to study he was extremely rude and disrespectful. He graded projects really knit picky
HE DOESN'T ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. HE WILL NOT HELP YOU IF YOU HAVE ANY TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING THE SUBJECT MATTER.
After the first test I started freaking out (I did poorly). But then I started studying hardcore and ended up with a really good grade overall. He is tricky but I found that if you studied the labs and how he words things on the labs, then you'll be alright. He was really hard but I feel like it made me work more and learn more.
His lecture does not go with the lab. Tests are a joke, lots of trick questions. Would never take a class with him again.
Very boring lectures. Tests mostly cover labs, slides, and lecture notes he posts on Blackboard. The book sometimes makes labs easier, but isn't strictly necessary. Most people have a hard time understanding how he words questions on tests, but they're straightforward if you understand. Don't feel like I've learned much, though.
Had him for MedTerm online. He made things very clear and everything seemed straight forward. Between his postings & the book (w/ flashcards) this class was far better than I had anticipated. He is knowledgeable, direct & expects you to be on point. I'd recommend him, at least for the class I took.
Mr. Lewis is so well prepared for class. He is most conscientious. Great professor. We are so lucky to have him on the community college level.
Great teacher. Witty.
I took this class in the summer. Professor is great, Interesting lectures and videos, very organized. This class is difficult but if you study hard and take great notes you should not have any issues. Summer class is Mon-Thurs., 5 exams and 4 projects. We did not use the book.
Professor Lewis is a very interesting character. His lectures were pretty interesting to me. Make sure to take good notes and pay attention in class. Test were hard but if you study hard you should be fine. I will definitely take him again.
I took pathophysiology and physiology with Steven Lewis. Didn't use the textbooks. For both classes I printed the powerpoint slides before class and followed along and took notes. The printable slides are slightly different from his lecture slides. Tests were multiple choice with the occasional short-answer. Overall, solid teacher.
Very tough, very dull. I missed a day and flunked the related test. His tests are hard and feel like they do not cover a single thing he discussed in class.
He has a unique way of teaching. The faster you catch on to it, the better. Overall, I learned so much from him and I got to adapt that stuff to my current job as an MA and noticed how many medications really work to help improve patients health.
Steven Lewis is a quirky teacher who provides many learning resources of his own. He's very knowledgeable about what he teaches and that is clear in his lectures. He's quite sarcastic and has a ridiculous sense of humor which can make him scary to approach or ask questions to, but helps make the long lectures more amusing.
I took this class after receiving my bachelors from another university. He's by far the worst professor I've ever had. He'll belittle students for wrong answers, and wont answer questions directly. Everybody kind of gave up on participation. PowerPoints will have sound effects in them. Very monotone lecturer. Informative. Go to class anyway.
Lewis is a better professor than people give him credit for. His lecture teaches everything that's on the exam. Definitely go to class because although he posts his PowerPoints, they are very minimal. Attending isn't required but you pay for it with lost exam points. Form study groups and study smarter, not harder; you'll get a good grade.
The worst professor I have ever had. He makes the most simple things into a long and confusing lecture, making it extremely hard to keep up with and understand him. He will make you feel dumb, belittle you, and never answers questions in a positive manner. Save yourself from unnecessary stress and take a different professor.
This professor made me feel like physiology was going to be like learning a new language. His sarcasm was not entertaining. Definitely prepare to study by yourself outside of this class and working in the textbook on your own. His lectures are long and don't have flow to them.
From the first night, he told us that it's not likely that will pass his class. You couldn't ask a question without him making you feel like an idiot. His tone of voice is very condensing and very rude. The only good thing that did happen was when I asked a question one-on-one, he was nicer, but still very rude about helping out. I don't recommend
I took medical terminology online and it wasn't that bad. Being an online class you really need to stay on track and do all the work and not cram for tests. There is a LOT of information on each exam but it's definitely doable as long as you are committed. He's a hard grader on the reports so make sure you check his grading criteria.
Worst professor I've had. Comes across very rude and demeaning. Don't ask for any help or any extra credit because you won't get it. I feel like he sets you up to fail bc he puts in his syllabus that only 21-33% of his students get an A and an even higher percentage of his students drop. insane amount of material for each test. tough grader
"Have you ever tried to drown a fat person? They won't stay under water!" "Duct tape her mouth shut, and chase her around the room for 9 days straight." He is a racist who teases and picks on persons of color with accents. You can't just know it, you have to know how HE words it, or it's wrong. Worst teacher I've ever had, and a terrible human.
He is the rudest most pretentious prof I've ever had. He gave his students a 30 min physiology test with 40 questions. Many students struggled. When emailed he replied: "this is not a math test where you have to work a problem. if you know the material 30 min is adequate." and then compared the time frame to a medical terminology class.
This was an interesting class for me. A lot of memorization and his projects are relatively simple, however his communication is strictly through Blackboard and when it's down (which happens often) it's hard to get a reply without him making it sound like you are doing something wrong. His strengths aren't in the communication department. Good luck
i had summer class with him, i never saw worst prof ever than this guy, he is rude and wont even acknowledge your concerns. if you do not want to fail physiology take another professor if not then be ready for a 30Min an 40 quizzes. run for your life.
I cant hear his lectures, background noise is too loud. His test are 30 minutes for 45 questions. It is not enough time and even after many complaints from students he didnt budge. He says it doesnt take him long to take the test (that he wrote). Doesnt care about any issues you have with the class. Sometimes hes not too bad.
This professor is the worst Ive ever had, if you have any questions he will not help you or give and advice or direction to help you get to the correct answer. Best advice I can give is DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I asked for help multiple occasions and was given no direction to help get to the answer. I was better off asking or Google. Hes arrogant!!
I learned so much in this class. I understand the impulse to rate him poorly, he is disagreeable and insensitive when giving any feedback. However, he really knows his stuff. I'm also horrified by the attitudes of some of these students leaving bad reviews over political nonsense and getting their feelings hurt - completely unacceptable.
Wow very very hard class. I am currently in physiology with this professor online and it is nearly impossible. Im a hard worker and study plenty and I am still struggling to pass the tests. I had no choice but to finish this class out for my program otherwise I wouldve dropped. I cant tell you enough to not take this class. Tests are HARD.
Do not take this class
He's not helpful what so ever. He belittles students. There is at most 30 minutes of zoom class where he goes over the answers to previous homework and that's it. He post his lectures on blackboard as a video. He does not spend any class time actually teaching, basically self taught. If your answers don't exactly match his then you are wrong. AWFUL
Do not listen to these other reviews. Professor Lewis is phenomenal. He is extremely thorough, does an excellent job explaining things, and his lectures are fresh and interesting. This has been one of my favorite classes of my college career. The tests are a little bit challenging with the time constrain, but if you study, you'll succeed!
One of the worst professors I've ever had. When you are struggling all he does to help, is tell you "to find a study buddy". Would highly NOT recommend.
I took Prof. Lewis class summer of 21. The class involves 5 exams and 4 projects. The projects are fairly easy with a max points of 25. The exams are OKAY; study and you will pass. Some lecture videos are longer than others, but overall he presents a good amount of information in his lecture videos/notes to go alone w/ his exam. 30 mins for 40 ques
Worst professor I have ever taken. He is very knowledgeable but doesn't know how to teach students. The homework has to be written is exact wording or he counts it wrong and it would take me at least 3 hours to finish each hw assignment. Test were 40 question in 30 mins which was just simply not enough time. Don't take this class you will regret it
He's rude & condescending. The labs are easy if you are watching the lectures and reading but he grades tough, if you make a mistake, he makes you feel stupid for it. I don't feel comfortable asking questions because of how he might answer. I'm sure he's a good person, but I did not learn in this class b/c of the atmosphere he created.
Labs were ok but if you dont word it exactly from the lecture its wrong. Its a race to finish 40 q's in 30 mins. I barely got a C. He makes you feel dumb. You will regret taking this. He had a lab due literally the morning of the first day back from a break that I missed. He has labs due at weird times. You have to check bb 2x/day to not miss hw
I took him for both classes. Med term was easier bc only projects and tests. Not much else. I got a B in this class. Fairly easy just watch the lectures. 50 questions in 40 mins is not enough time. Took online.
He's very knowledgeable, but does not know how to teach. Exams are 32 min for 40 questions and he does not go over the questions that you missed or you cannot see what questions you got incorrect. How can you learn if you do not understand what you missed?
Professor Lewis makes this class fun, you have video, lab, and lecture each day of class and test every 2 weeks or so. If you study you will pass, he gives you all the answers in videos. I learned so much in this class, but let's face it Anatomy and Physiology are both super tough. Study, study, study! If you need a virtual class this is the one!
Negative reviews unnecessary! I could see how some might think he is a bit odd, however, I thought he was simply old school in nature. I enjoyed that this was not a homework heavy course. He gives you everything you need to succeed. Pay attention and put in the work. This is a college level course after all. This ended up my fave class I've taken!
