HARD PROFESSOR!! HE EXPECTS YOU TO DO HOMEWORKS BEFORE HE DISCUSSES THE CHAPTER IN THE CLASS, H.Ws ARE MANDATORY, BUT HE NEVER GIVES 'EM BACK TO YOU. HE NEVER CARES HOW MUCH OF AN EFFORT YOU PUT IN THIS CLASS, IN THE H.Ws AND IN THE PROJECT, HE WOULD STILL GIVE YOU BAD GRADE. HIS TESTS ARE VERY TRICKY AND HE NEVER GIVES REVIEWS AT ALL.

Does not care at all about students. I was around class average for midterm, final was hard and I did not receive my grade back; but overall I received a D. Does not care to help students.

He's a worst person I've ever met! I wonder how he can be a professor. He has no respect for students.

He just get the test from the online quiz and it's exactly the same. It's not fair because some people access the file and they have the test bank and exactly the same on the test. Basically those people did well have the test bank and they hacked it.

I am dropping too. There are 5 questions to be eliminated.

He makes a lot of jokes and tells that exams are bases on his lectures that IS NOT TRUE. Midterm is hard and the final is harder. It is always good to read your book, in that case, why we need him?..

He is tough grader! his Tests Worth 45% and they are really tough!

He is good at teaching but his tests r way harder than what he taught! Also he is a tough grader.

Good luck taking him, as many said he explains things very well but when it comes test, he confuses the F out of it!

He only grades your 2 tests, midterm and final! we did homework and group projects and presentation but there was no grade for it! he is lazy! good thing he always lets u go home early.

What he talks about in class is not relevant to the exams. His tests are 39 multiple choice that dont resemble his lecturers. Your grade is based off midterm and final alone. There is no grade for the homework or presentation. Would not recommend. Online lectures that are too long to listen to...

He decided to take it easy this semester and turn this into a 'hybrid' class. W got stuck with 2 hour recorded lectures that leave you even more confused after reading the book. Full of himself, a big waste of your time. Don't expect to learn anything particularly useful, just get your friend's old testbanks and self-study. Nothing is graded.

Worst professor ever!!!! Doesnt teach, hes full of himself; hes always talking about his accomplishments. Do not take him unless you have the test bank. I studied from the textbook for the first exam and failed. I cheated from the test bank on the final and passed. Hes exams come straight from the test bank. You can find the test bank online.

He is awful. He brags about his achievement and never teaches well. He tells story of firing his own Tax3300 Prof when he was Baruch student because that Prof used testbank. But I realized prof Melnik's test come from the test bank too!I don't know how anyone like him could be a chairperson of a department. Don't take him!

Worse class i have taken, does not even teach much talks a lot about his achievements, makes you read the textbook and assigns homework from the book. He has a good habit not to come once other week and makes the class "online". I would not recommend this prof!

This professor is the worst, he did a review for the final exam two days before the final, and he has the audacity of putting the one and a half hour video review four hours before the final exam. Avoid him, he dont teach a single problem, he just talk about life, take a professor that actually teaches so you can prepare for the REG of the CPA.

Not good professor. He sent a message claiming that he posted grades. Grades are not up 2 days post his email. His lectures are ridiculous and filled with fluff. I wish Baruch could live upto its "standards" and get serious but also educated professors. Enough with the dummies.

Very interesting lectures, too pity most of them online through semester. Hard exam nothing like homework and very subjective grader. We were supposed to get 10% from our homework, well thanks for counting nothing fro me professor Melnik and lowing my grade tremendously. Not recommended by any means, the least transparent professor I've had.

Don't take him. The exam is so tricky. He change TB questions. Class average is failing grade.

I thought I signed up for a hybrid class. This guy does one class every other week. This guy doesn't use testbank anymore. He changes the majority of the testbank. You follow the TB, you will definitely get a failing grade.

Don't take him. At least don't take him at the last semester before graduation. Self study is highly required. Testbank is no longer useful.

He cares only the money from the students & makes them sign up as much as possible and fail them all. Horrible! Thought Baruch is known for the best business school in the city. I don't think so!

I never thought i would encounter the worst of the worst professors. He should be ashamed to be called a professor. Very rude, angry, unprofessional, child like behavior. Unfortunately he is the only option for Tax. Only retirement would save you from this unstable man child. BTW he does not teach (I feel sorry for Sabrina, she has to deal with him

In a class where you should be learning about the current tax law, you will get pre-recorded lectures made at least 2 years ago covering the old law because why not?

The professor is just useless. Can't teach at all. You have to watch his years old pre-recorded lectures and teach yourself tax laws. Exams are also tricky as hell.

Worst professor I've ever taken, if you can even call him one because he literally just sent us prerecorded lectures and called it a day. Read the book because if you have questions to ask he'll answer you (if even) in the most condescending voice ever. Out of the entire semester, I've only ever seen him do an actual "meeting" twice.

He is so lazy he doesn't even teach. His little assistant does everything for him. When the midterm average for the class was a 50, he sent out an email saying that it was perhaps because we are focusing on other classes instead. like no old man, if the class average sucks, it's a reflection on your terrible teaching skills.

His teaching style is so ineffective. Talk through heavy concepts without any visual aids. Sad how he is the only option for most students.

Thankfully this class doesn't have a minimum grade requirement. Tough as hell class. For those of you expecting quizlet or Chegg, don't do it. Everything question was tailored by Melnik himself. Only thing quizlet was helpful for was understanding homework. Exams are 90% of this man's class, so if you fail, drop it.

Professor Melnik does not teach. You will have to teach yourself. We had class every Friday, but we hardly saw him. I suggest reading the chapters, doing practice questions and making a study group with your classmates. That really helped me.

This class is extremely hard and it doesnt help when the professor isnt present most of the time and tells you to consult his assistant instead. When you ask questions he may tell you he doesnt want to go over it. He gave us a project but no one in the class had motivation to do it because it was a small portion of the grade. Self-study.

Worst professor I've had the misfortune of taking. Treats students like trash and always has his assistant do everything for him. Only "teaches" by posting two-year-old video lectures. Baruch needs more competent tax professors. It's ridiculous that most students have no choice but to take him.

Worst Professor I have ever had. He didn't teach anything; he posted 2 years ago recording a lecture, he didn't show up in class. We hardly see him for a total of 2-3 hours the whole semester if you can ignore this professor and take another one.

He doesn't teach. He posts older YouTube videos from when he was teaching in person which makes it very difficult to ask questions. He also is not very accessible. The entire class is made for you to teach yourself. He also doesn't answer students questions very well, I feel he makes the subject more difficult because he "KNOWS IT SO WELL"

Very rude when students have questions. His lectures are prerecorded from years ago. 2 exams worth 45%, HW/project worth 10%. He never shared how much HW oject was worth individually ver gave out grades for it. I missed some HW bc I got Covid& he didn't care to let me make it up. Exam avg was 53% &he didn't curve. Lowest grade he gives is C-

Just avoid him please. He only do Q&A live lecture and you only meet him less than 2 times a month, or non even. Half of the grade is midterm and final, 10% hw. He provides old videos to teach you which isnt good due to changing tax law. He doesnt teach at all. His TA does all the emailing and work. The only tax prof. Baruch is a scam.

this guy is the worst. he rarely has live sessions and sends old youtube videos of past lectures which have all the wrong tax codes since they change yearly. I had to read the book and understand the laws thoroughly in order to get a slightly above average grade on the midterm. you can self study this class can work for you.

Baruch needs to hire more tax professors, this guy is lazy, doesn't teach, and communicates through his TA like a weirdo. Ignore all the 2+ star reviews on here because they were probably written by him and are NOT at all true. He says not to take him again if you "fail" the class as if he isn't one of two options.

WORST PROFESSOR: Outdated YouTube recordings will be teaching you through the semester. If you're lucky enough to see him its for Q&A were he's clearly annoyed by the fact that students have questions. He's not aware of what's in the HW so you're on your own, plus whatever you may need you shall ask his assistant because he can't be bother. !!RUN!!

As usual, Melnik didn't try this semester.. like the past reviews, all he did was give you links to his old 2018 YouTube lecture videos and you don't get much out of them. Live recitations were only for student Q&A purposes and pretty much was just him talking about his life. 2 exams were worth 45% each... gl ya'll... I srsly regret taking him....

The only time you'll hear from him is with three year old YouTube videos that don't even apply to current tax code. He advises students to consult his TA with questions instead of answering them himself, and he gets visibly annoyed when answering questions. Tests are graded 45% each with homework, group project, and attendance making up 10%. AVOID!

I am advising you to save your GPA, time, and money because that weirdo wastes your time with self-study and practically forwarding questions to his TA I will regret not to take with him. If you want to study tax I would take tax with a different professor.

The worst professor that exists at Baruch, he teach the old tax code with his 3 year old lectures and doesnt answer questions. The grading policy isnt distributed so easy to fail if something goes wrong In one of 2 exams which are 45% each. I took the course 2 times and was able to get A-on final attempt as there was no other options to choose.

You have to study hard to pass this class. Exams are tricky make sure to read carefully. Questions are very confusing. If you get above average on both exams you will get an A or A- in this class. His lectures are on YouTube and are not updated. To pass you will need to read the book and listen to his lectures. Get 90+ on all homework assignments.

THE WORST!! STAY AWAY FROM HIM! He doesn't teach, he doesn't care. His only goal is to ruin your GPA and that's about it.

Worst professor you can imagine this guy doesn’t teach and posts his in person teachings from 10 years ago and tells us to watch it. His exams are terrible; class averages are like 10/40 and if you do better than ur peers you’ll get an A. Don’t take him please if you want to do good or even pass.

I would highly advise you not to take this class, unfortunately, he was the only TAX professor available. He gets paid to do the minimum, he does not care about his students. During 1 month the class only met once online, get gives out his old 2007 tax videos that are not within today's rules. This guy does NOT CARE to see his students succeed.

The professor would rather give outdated lectures of previous classes than teach the material personally to students again. Imagine if every other professor did that, they'd be fired immediately. I don't know how he's the only one who gets to do this. Only meets once every other week or so. Extremely test heavy, 90% of your grade is on two tests.

i would say he is the worst i got. didnt care about student at all. exams are tough, less timed and just uploads old lectures. he is a very busy person so he dont have time for his student. skip him if u can

2h left for the final grade submission deadline, and nothing. Post outdated youtube videos for lectures and always has an attitude. His "assistant" is the one doing the heavy work. Not one care in the world for the students success, and constantly reminds people not to take him again our they "will fail". He should consider retirement.

I don't typically post reviews, but this professor is terrible at instructing. He would post old lectures on blackboard for students to review. He does not care about his students and delegated all of his responsibilities to TA. Exams are more tough and have a shorter time limit. AVOID if you don't want to ruin your GPA.

I think he is a terrible "lecturer". His videos are almost useless. He is too full of himself. Brags a lot about completely unnecessary things. I'm about to graduate, he has been my worst experience at Baruch. This class was absolutely not worth my time, even less so my money.

This class shows that this is a online class. But, we don't really meet; it's more like a asynchronous class. You have to learn everything by yourself. He just send you old videos to make you learn by yourself. He doesn't really answer your questions.

You need to learn everything by yourself, and he doesn't teach at all. The review session is not helpful. You have to do the homework before he teaches that class, and the homework only has one attempt. The midterm and final don't have a "go back" button.

He is not accessible outside of class, does not teach any materials everything is pre recorded, 2 tests that are 45% each of your grader. Im not sure how he is the only teacher for tax. Ruined my GPA.

Use outdated pre-recorded youtube lecture videos. Tests are 45% each and performance curved. Tests were worded confusing; LOTS OF TYPOS, short time limit, and you can't go back/forth between questions. “Extra credit” was only 0.9%. Has the audacity to say don't retake him if you fail as if he's not the only one Baruch has to offer. Disappointing.

He doesn't teach anything and the textbook is dense, super long, and confusing. All he does is post outdated lectures that are boring and unhelpful, and you can't even see the board when he's explaining. I tried to self teach but it wasn't enough. What a waste of time. I wanted to learn but he didn't teach. Ruined my 4.0 gpa.

Paranoid about cheating that he makes the tests confusing. Meets once a month and ends meeting in < 15 mins if no questions are asked. Not reachable outside of class. Final grades on submission deadline date so we can't complain. Also messed up grades and won't respond. He gave some guy an A- even though he scored lower on midterm/final than me.

if you want to learn anything about tax & care about your gpa, don't take his class. the worst professor I've ever had. his assistants handle everything, does not teach (holds "q&a meetings" that last 10 mins), attached videos 10 years ago & has not updated anything since. huge ego, loves to talk about himself & posts all grades a week after final.

Grades horribly, impossible to reach as he never responds to emails, his assistant handled everything. He complained all the time & would repeatedly say not to take him again if you didn't do well in his class. Learned nothing. Some people just really shouldn't teach.

Not enough characters that could explain the abomination of a class he conducts. Does not teach just gives you links to youtube videos that are 6 years old. On top of that you have to spend 200 for textbooks. His exams are a mess and go over barely anything that was in the videos. Save your GPA.

This class is a nightmare, the midterm and Final count for 90% of your final grade, which is ridiculous. We have to self-study and watch outdated videos of him teaching years ago when he had hair. The exams are online, you cannot go back to previous questions. The good news is that he won't teach at Baruch for the Spring 2026 semester.

The worst accounting professor I've ever met at baruch, does not teach and gives you a bunch of lecture videos he recorded many years ago. Please be prepared to read a lot and expect not getting any feedbacks from him immediately. I wouldn't recommend this professor at all if you try to learn new things.

Lectures aren't live. He directs everything to his TA. The course is 90% exams, 1 midterm, and 1 final. The last 10% is participation, homework, and a group project. When he assigned the project, he didn't even know how much it was worth yet.... Don't take him.
