This is by far the best class to take for history credit by a mile. No tests, no quizzes, no essays, and the only homework is a weekly module that makes up the entire grade. It doesn't take too long and is easy to get an A on. 10/10
Take his online course for History 315K. By far the easiest class I have ever taken. There is one online module a week and attendance isn't really mandatory. He is a funny guy and the lectures aren't too boring.
I took History of the US Since 1865, and it was pretty great. The professor was amazingvery charismatic and clear. He showed lots of old movie clips to help us understand the culture. No quizzes or tests either. The only problem was our online homework. The modules are graded by the TAs, who offer bare-bones, general feedback.
Each module has about 30-40 pages and thats sort of the downside. The SAs have to be at least 500 words and you need to be very specific when writing them or the TAs will tally points off. Theyre done in increments of 4 so theres very little margin for error.
All you need to know about him is there are no exams, no quizzes, and all you have as grades are one module per week. You have to go to class, but don't have to listen. All you are graded on is short responses and multiple choice in the modules and it has everything you need to know in the module. Easiest class ever.
It is clear that Professor Mintz is very passionate about what he talks about. History is usually a boring class for me, but his energy and commitment that go into his lectures make the class really interesting. There are no tests or quizzes, which is great. We just have weekly modules with multiple-choice and short answer questions which are easy.
The class was fairly easy if you are willing to put in some work. The class consists of weekly modules that include multiple choice questions and short answer questions. The questions can be a bit difficult at times, but not impossible. Overall, the lectures are not that helpful but they can be interesting at times.
Weekly modules that consist of 10 multiple-choice questions and 5 short answers, EASY EASY EASY!! He does not take attendance at all and his lectures don't align with that week's online module, so there's really no point on going to class. Just really work on your short-answers because they are worth the most.
EASIEST A EVER. Lectures are not even on the modules so there is no need to worry over missed material. Finished with a 99!!!
If you are not a strong writer, I warn you that this class is not for you. IF you have taken APUSH and other AP histories, then you will be fine because the weekly short response questions are similar to that style of writing. Other than that, the class is super easy with no tests or anything, only the weekly modules with 3 paragraph response qs
All of your grade comes from the 15 weekly modules. They aren't that hard, and you get what they're looking for in the short answers really fast. He technically takes attendance, but most people leave after they swipe in with their ID and he never checks. Probably the easiest history class at UT
Love this man so much. He made history so interesting and easy. It was because of this class that my semester GPA was salvaged. Take this class because there are no essays, no tests, and not quizzes. The only thing due is a module that takes a couple of hours each week.
Your grade is based entirely on 15 online modules. They take around 1-2 hours each and aren't too difficult. Mintz takes attendance, but a vast majority of students just swipe their ID and then leave since lecture is pointless because all of the coursework is online. If you want a minimal effort history class, take Mintz
Very, very kind and sweet man. He claims attendance is mandatory and will affect your grade, but it does not. Everything is online, but you have to be very careful answering the MC and short answer questions because missing a lot of points CAN bring your grade down. I would not recommend this class for those who are not strong writers.
Highly credible and intelligent professor who made his class super easy. There are 15 online modules and no exams. I look forward to taking my other History class with him.
Mintz is a really great lecturer and very interesting. You have a module due every week and they make up the entirety of your grade in the class. The modules aren't hard just 3 short answer questions (like 350 words) and 20 multiple choice questions with the answers in the module. Easy class and a good teacher
Adorable professor and his class is super chill. All grades come from online modules. Attendance isn't mandatory but at the beginning of each lecture he opens timed online polls that count for extra credit. I only come to lecture because he's a great guy and superb lecturer, no need to pay attention though. I usually just do work for other classes.
Professor Mintz is a great professor. Although his lectures are not mandatory, they are very interested and informative. Mintz is such an interesting man with a passion for the subject. He gives out extra credit for attendance and there are no tests or quizzes, just modules that need to be completed by the end of the week. Highly recommend!
Professor Mintz's class is definetly the easiest history class in UT, you can just do his homework module while it takes some times. His lecture is kind of boring to most people, but I think it's ok.
If you like history, you will like him and his lectures. If you do not, you don't have to go to class and will still end up with an A. It's a win-win. No tests, no final, just 14 online modules. If you took APUSH the modules will be very easy. Probably the best history professor at UT.
Super chill professor. Going to lecture isn't mandatory but his lectures are amazing.
If you are into online classes, this one is for you. I'm not however so I got pretty bored. It was really easy though, there is just one module due every week. Attend class, don't be rude. I think there was like 200 people the first day of class and maybe only 30 students after that; I felt so bad. He has a lot of interesting things to say.
Web-based, but in-person class. Attendance was extra credit. Be respectful and actually attend his lectures. He has a lot of interesting information that has transformed my knowledge and interest in American history. Modules can take a few hours, so make sure to start them before the last minute. They make or break your grade.
Probably the easiest class I have taken at UT so far. Modules are due every Friday at 7:00 AM and the grading criteria isn't harsh at all. Like many have said, attendance is not mandatory, but he will put up instapoll questions for students to answer for extra credit during lecture-- I would just answer these at home! Overall, this class was easy.
I took this class, because just like everyone else at UT, I too was fooled into the fact that it was an easy class. False. The lectures were real boring, and I did not attend them after the first 3 lectures. Modules due every week is awful and take about 5-6 hours of work when you're not even interested in them. Would not take again.
Took his class because of the reviews but I regret it. His modules take so long and the short answer essays are more than 3 sometimes. The questions asked for the short answer are pointless and sometimes hard to complete with 1200 characters without having to add fluff.
His class was the easiest ever it was awesome. You dont have to attend lectures just do one module a week and you can find the answers on quizlet sometimes.. and um whoever said his modules were too much... u gewd? this was the easiest thing ever!
This is my favorite class at UT and the layout of this class is really helpful and intriguing. Weekly modules are due and they can take up some time, but totally worth it due to the fact there aren't quizzes, test or a final exam. Make sure to complete modules for an easy A, cause if not it will cost you your grade.
Dr. Mintz is the best HIS prof! He has 15 modules and that makes your grade! Attending class gives you extra credit!
Prof. Mintz is a great guy. He is accessible, intelligent, and makes history interesting. If you don't do well In this class, you must have seriously made some mistakes. The class is straight forward and the reading is very reasonable. He isn't tricky, he just wants to know you have a grasp on the content. Would take this class all over again!
Mintz is honestly one of the greatest professors at UT. I took his class over the summer, committed about 4 total hours every week, and ended up with over a 100. I'm not even good at history. The class was really nicely formatted, with 10 total modules that make up your grade, and a bunch of extra credit opportunities. TAKE HIM! You won't regret
Great professor, you can really tell that he is passionate abt his work. Easy class, took it during the summer so we had 2 modules, each had 20MC and 2 short responses. Graded entirely by your TAs but they usually grade fairly. Make sure you attend class cuz it's not mandatory but you get major extra credit points (bumped me up from a 87 to a 90)
Class is based on modules, with essay questions and multiple-choice questions. Easy A if you read the modules for 2-3 hours per module. Extra credit if you attend the lecture quizzes. Interesting lectures and a genuinely nice teacher.
Great Professor. Took this course as one of my history requirements over the summer and did not regret it one bit. Coursework is self-explanatory but lectures were interesting and he seemed to care about everyone. Would have been cool to take it in person for sure.
Online Modules and lectures were fascinating and do a good job of linking modern themes to past historical events. Gives a lot of extra credit for attendance. An A is very doable. I would highly recommend Professor Mintz!
Voluminous reading, videos watching for weekly quiz and two essays. 20+ hours to spend per week. Not really much help from TA. Prof. is a good person. I would think he reduces reading material. Some extra credit if you attend online class and take end of class quiz.
Loved the lectures. The homework was easy, just be ready to write weekly essays.
Very good professor. 15 hr per week needed for this class. No exam, but weekly reading , quiz and essay.
Professor Mintz was a great professor for history. His lectures aren't mandatory but he does give extra credit at them for instapolls during class and for going to discussion sections. There were 12 modules with two essays and 20 multiple choice in each. They aren't too difficult just a bit time consuming.
Great professor & lectures. The entire class is graded off of 12 modules, so no tests, and the modules, while they take time, are pretty easy to complete. You do have to write at least two essays/short answers every week, however. Class isn't mandatory, but attend to get extra credit. TAs do most of the grading, but they're pretty lenient.
Mintz is passionate about what he teaches. The lectures are all extra credit but after going to 1, you want to go to all of them b/c he makes history INTERESTING. Graded based on 13 modules, due every Monday. Awesome class, super interesting, and an easy A if you manage it well.
one of the best history teachers i've ever had! he makes lecture so interesting and engaging. the class is very easy and not time consuming at all. he's overall an awesome professor that I highly recommend!
Prof. Mintz is AMAZING! The course is structured in a very doable format, with 13 modules - 1/week. There's quite a bit of reading, but also lots of extra credit and no exams. He adds poetry, music, and fun facts to the content. His approach to History is what got me thinking on adding History as a major/minor!
13 weekly modules, each with 20 multiple choice reading questions and 2 essays (leniently) graded by TAs. No exams, tests, quizzes, or finals. Lectures on Tuesdays and breakout rooms on Thursdays, both of which offer SIGNIFICANT extra credit opportunities. Lectures are engaging, Mintz is obviously passionate about history and respects his students
The only assignments you do are weekly modules that have 2 short answers and multiple-choice questions. It took me average 3-5 hours each week to complete them. It is really easy to get a good grade because he offers so many extra credit points so show up to lecture and TA sessions. Mintz is an amazing lecturer and he is so happy all the time!
Dr. Mintz is very passionate about what he teaches. Your grade is made up entirely of modules that the TAs grade. The modules do take some time to complete, but it's worth it to not have any tests, quizzes, or projects. He gives extra credit for attending lectures and TA sessions.
ONE OF MY FAVORTIE PROFS! I hate history as a subject but Mintz was a joy. His class was doable and I learned alot. Although participation was not mandatory I actually went to class (on person then again online the following semester) because he is such an interesting lecturer. His class is easy to complete modules with alot of extra credit opportu
I love this man with my whole heart <3 I don't know how the class is outside of the online semester but he accommodated so well. With 1500 people I'm sure it was hard to manage so the only real work was a weekly module with about 15-20 mc questions and 2/3 essays which aren't difficult because of the readings provided. SOO much extra credit!!
I finished this class off with a 104, and it was very minimal work. He gives extra credit at the end of class and for showing up to TA discussions. The actual course material was very interesting in my opinion and extremely manageable.
Dr. Mintz is a really nice man who loves history and wants to make it as exciting as possible. The weekly modules are pretty easy (I'd usually be able to get them done in a sitting or two on the weekend) and the extra credit instapolls and breakout room attendance were a great grade cushion. I had a great TA and the essays were graded very fairly!
Great class, great speaker, great materials.
Professor Mintz was a great professor for 315K. He did his best to incorporate modern world issues and topics into his lectures and was open to answering any questions that were sent his way. Your grade is completely dependent on weekly homework modules, which are very easy, and he offers a TON of extra credit. If you can take Mintz, DO IT!
Mintz is such a sweetheart. He is one of the kindest professors I've ever met. His class is a super easy A. The weekly modules took about 1-2 hours to complete. There is SO much extra credit and it is minimum effort. Take this class for an easy history credit!
This class was such an easy A and Mintz is a super kind prof. The only thing you're graded on are 13 weekly modules, each of which consist of 15-20 multiple choice questions and two 1200 character paragraph/essays. No tests or finals. I had an 89, but with plenty of extra credit, my final grade went up to a 95.
Easiest class I have ever taken in my life. Mintz gives out TONS of extra credit, and the modules are SO easy. Guaranteed A as long as you complete modules.
Dr. Mintz was one of the best professors Ive ever had. His lectures were very interesting and informative. He taught history in a way that was not biased which was very refreshing. Also, there was a ton of extra credit opportunities, so if you showed up to lecture, did all of your homework, participated in the instapoll, its not hard to get an A.
Class consists of 13 weekly modules that take around 1.5 hours to do. Each module is worthy 100 points (60 Multiple Choice and 40 Essay). I went to a few lectures and Dr. Mintz seemed to be a very engaging professor that would try to make history enjoyable. Tons of extra credit, boosted my grade by 6 points.
super sweet and engaging during lectures, but attendance is optional and mainly for extra credit. the grades come from graded modules, and he is very passionate about the subject and helping students understand history
I'm not the biggest fan of history, but Professor Mintz made this class enjoyable. He acknowledges a lot of different perspectives. There are no tests, only graded modules, but they are simple and even going to class gets you extra credit.
Professor Mintz is a great option to take to get HIS315k out of the way for the core requirements. His lectures could be slightly boring, largely because of Zoom, but they were not mandatory, and you revived extra credit through Instapolls at the end of each class. No tests. All grades came form Canvas modules, which were very easy to do well on.
You can tell he really enjoys history and shows through his passionate voice in lectures. There are several opportunities for extra credit which are the instapolls during the lecture and discussion sessions. It is pretty difficult not to get an A as you need an 83 on the modules and you just need to read the above articles in the modules.
Amazing class! The weekly modules are easy and only take like an hour or two. If you want, go to class for easy extra credit and you can end with like 105+.
(Fall 2020) Fun lecturer and nice guy but the real appeal is the lack of tests, papers, etc. everything else is pretty nondescript. The course modules are really easy and can be crammed into like an hour on Monday nights if you get busy. Most of the content you'll have learned from prev years of U.S. History already.
I've taken multiple classes with Prof. Mintz and if I could, I'd take more! He's amazing! You can tell he really cares about his students and is really passionate about History! Absolutely take his class (any of his classes!) I enjoyed his classes so much that I considered switching to a History major! He gives great feedback and advice!
Mintz is well-known at UT and in the museum field. Because of this, he a) has a lot of insight that other professors don't and b) is not very accessible outside of class. We did a lot of interesting reading. The project was good because it was career-focused. The weekly responses are interesting but not too difficult.
Lectures are not mandatory, as everything is graded by modules you do online. As long as you're careful on the modules and write good essays, you're fine. Make sure to do the Instapolls (extra credit), though, as they will save your grade in the end. Prioritize this class in registration if you need that history credit!!
This class was only graded by asynch online modules, and showing up to class gives extra credit. Would definitely take again!
You could never show up to this class and still make an A. There are no tests/finals/papers, just weekly assignments. However, if you show up to class you will get extra credit which I would definitely recommend. 100% take this class if you need the credit and you'll get a good grade.
Loved this man's class. His class is comprised of asynchronous weekly modules (multiple choice and short answers). Modules can take a couple of hours each week, but that was so worth not having quizzes/ tests. Attendance is extra credit, and his lectures are actually really interesting. Take this class! You won't regret it!
Dr. Mintz was cool. His lectures were really engaging but not required (or really necessary to pass). I would, however, recommend going because you'll learn a lot, and he does a good job at making history interesting (plus you get extra credit for instapolls). The only grades for the class are from weekly modules that take a couple hours to do.
I love the format of his class and how all the work is online. Though coming to lecture is not mandatory, I recommend going because of the extra credit offered at the end of each lecture. I ended up with an overall grade above a 100 because of the extra credit. He loves teaching and you can tell, lectures are super easy to follow. 100% recommend.
This class is super easy to pass. There are weekly modules due, which are all online so easily accessible. You don't have to attend lectures but if you do you can receive extra credit. By far the easiest class I've taken my time here on campus.
The course is taught online, at your own pace with modules due at end of week. If you go to his in-person lectures, then you get extra credit. I never went and just did the online modules.
Professors that are passionate about what they are teaching are the best. Hands down. Professor Mintz is so passionate and really cares about his student's opinions. He values what we have to say and asks us critical questions. 12/10 recommend.
Modules are due every week, but are easy and not too much at all! Lots of opportunities for extra credit as well. Helpful feedback was always provided after each module was graded. Overall, a great professor, and I learned a lot! Take this class if you need to fulfill a history credit!
Not caring at all. Doesn't care about whats going on in student's lives aside from academics. Doesn't allow retroactive extensions.
Mintz is probably the best Lecturer I've had at UT. You really never need to show up to class but I did anyway because I loved the way he lectured. Just don't miss a module or it'll hurt your grade badly since thats the only thing he grades. However his extra credit is really helpful and can boost your grade an entire letter.
Dr. Mintz is great, lectures are optional and everything is graded on a few modules. You complete one a week and they're super easy. There are 2 essays in each, one self-graded, the other graded by a TA. Beware, the TAs are super strict and harsh graders and take their job way too seriously for one essay. But Mintz is great, easy class.
Taught history in a new way and brought up details that I had never heard of before for major historical events. Loved him!!
Lectures and attendance or optional, but I fell in love with the lecture style and storytelling of Professor Mintz. No tests, quizzes, or projects, only weekly modules with two essays each and multiple choice. It is a free A and I highly recommend taking it. Also, if you do show up to lectures, there are in class bonus points that he offers!
Mintz is your classic historian lecturer and could honestly be a TED speaker. Grades are 100% online modules (total 1100 points) but you can get up to 100 points from extra credit Instapoll questions if you go to lecture. Didn't learn anything in the class since he mostly talks about meaningless details and somewhat lacks focus on major events.
Mintz is so passionate in his lectures, and each lecture is extra credit, so you don't even have to go. You have to write two short essays a week in the module, which gets a little annoying, but it is far better than most other history classes. Easy A. Overall, this was a great class and an even better professor. 10/10 recommend.
Professor Mintz is super light and has very interesting lectures. You don't need to go to the class but I have never been so interested in history! You just have to do a module every week for a grade. There's instapoll every class for ec. No final or midterm. My TA Outman was kinda a harsh grader for no reason. Other than that I 100000% recommend.
Really easy class, impossible to not get an A unless you do not do any of the work.
Professor Mintz is a gem. Attendance to his lectures is optional but you get extra credit for going. Each week you have an online module to complete with some questions and short answers that don't take long. Take this class for an easy history credit! He is a great lecturer who truly wants his students to learn and succeed.
Easy A, attendance not required and assignments pretty easy
Best History prof at UT. He gives weekly modules that are time consuming, but can be finished within a day. He offers extra credit via instapoll after every lecture. These can be completed anywhere, but it does help if you go to class and pay attention.
He is so passionate about what he teaches that you will love going to lecture. The grade is based on modules (multiple choice + short essay questions) very very easy and very simple to keep track of how you are doing in the class. Best history credit in my opinion and listening to him talk about history is truly impressive.
Such an amazing lecturer! All material can be completed outside of class, but he gives extra credit at lectures and really is just so fascinating to listen to. Homeworks are easy. The only reason I got a B was because I did not realize that half of the homework did not save for like two or three assignments.
Best history class!! This was by far the best class I've ever taken at UT. There is a homework assignment each week with multiple choice questions and 2 short answers, but they do not take much time. You do not need to attend lectures, but he does Instapoll questions each class which are extra credit!! You can log on to complete these questions!
If you have the chance, take this class. You don't have to attend lectures but he does offer extra credit during them. One hw assignment each week that consists of multiple choice questions and two short essays. (2nd one is always autograded)
Distinct focus on online coursework. Lectures seem to be tangential to the topics at hand and, often, not of particular interest. TAs can be lacking in feedback. Overall a worthwhile class, especially considering it fulfills history and flag requirements.
Grade is solely dependent on online modules, which is MCQ + 2 essays every week. As long as you don't forget to do a module, an A is very doable. If you forget to do an essay (like me), extra credit can be earned by logging into instapoll towards the end of lectures; lecture attendance not necessary
His lectures are so great, and attendance is not mandatory. The homework is easy. Everyone can get an A in his class.
What a professor! Just recommend all to take his 315 courses. He is a nice professor both in lecturing and grading. Though some guys choose to not attend classes, his lectures are really interesting and I really learned a lot!
Prof Mintz is an amazing lecturer to listen to. Attendance not mandatory but he has instapoll questions at the end of lecture for extra credit. Homework is modules with simple multiple choice and essay questions. He puts lots of care into this class. Readings look at US history in an interesting way: super interesting if you want to read.
He's a great professor and makes class actually interesting. The class is based purely on modules that were easy even if you don't attend the lectures. There was a lot of extra credit offered in class.
This course is completely modules. During every lecture Dr. Mintz gives extra credit thru instapoll questions about what was covered. One module per week that consists of 20 MCQs and 2 FRQs. Overall, really easy class if you listen to TA feedback and turn in the modules on time.
Okay get ready to do like 1.5 hrs of work per week (at most) on the homeworks. And then congratulations you have a 105 in the class because you did the hws and went to some of his lectures to rack up the bonus points. TBH one of the easiest classes at UT; I ended up with a 108 in the class at the end of the semester.
His lectures are amazing; he puts work into them and explains history in a legitimately interesting way that puts high school courses to shame. And the extra credit is insane; could get an A with no problem at all.
Dr. Mintz is easily the best orator I've ever witnessed. He's very engaging, and his lectures feel more like storytelling than class. There is a module assigned each week for homework which only consist of about an hour's work, and there are extra credit questions at the end of each class.
Prof Mintz is amazing. He is really passionate about what he teaches and it makes the lectures easy to follow. There are weekly modules to complete but they are fairly easy you don't need to show up to lecture to complete them but it would make them easier. He also has instapole questions for extra credit at the end of every class.
G.O.A.T. lecturer, class workload was light but still allowed for a lot to be learned.
315L not super hard would recommend
Grade is made up of weekly online asynch homework assignments where you read passages and answer questions and writing short answers. Didn't have to go to class once. BUT lecture instapolls give you extra credit that brought my grade up 4 points so it's def worth it to attend. great lecturer and very passionate! best class to get history credit
Overall, I really Mintz's class. He gives weekly lectures, which we could then use to write papers (which made up the rest of your grade). participation matters, and he seemed to enjoy hearing our thoughts/opinions on things. Would recommend this class if you're looking for a writing-heavy history course.
Great summer class. Professor is very knowledgeable and lectures at a pace that was good for me since I have ADHD and tend to get lost in fast paced lectures. He tends to ask questions to the entire class, but never randomly calls on someone. Class was graded on essays which are over the material taught in lectures, so I felt they were chill
Most passionate professor at Texas, he was a former Harvard professor and has his own Wiki page. Amazing lecturer and super easy class for a history credit. Only graded on weekly Canvas modules, which can take less than an hour if you sit down and get it done. Attendance is extra credit too.
Professor Mintz's lectures are definitely interesting. I skipped majority of the semester, and assignments are super easy. Class consists of 7-10 short readings with MCQ and a 1200 character essay each week. Grades really just depends on your TA. Mine took off points for every little thing I did wrong. If you try, you can get an easy A.
Easy class to take for history credit. Only graded by weekly modules with MCQ and short essay questions. While attendance was not mandatory, you can earn extra credit at the end of class when he posts questions to be answered by Instapoll. I still attended every class because he is so amazing at teaching and made history very interesting.
He is an absolute sweetie, he is so caring and kind and you can tell he cares about this subject. Your grade is really dependent on your TA but overall pretty easy class.
Dr. Mintz is an excellent teacher who is truly passionate about his subject. His class is set up so you can do everything on your own, asynchronously. Attendance is not mandatory but is a way to ear extra credit. Modules have 2 essay questions and lots of multiple choice. Favorite class by far. No tests, no quizzes, no midterm, no final.
Best history class! Attendance is just for extra credit, and entire grade is based on weekly modules which are multiple choice and two (VERY SHORT) essays. He is excited about history and it's an easy and enjoyable class.
this was the best history credit. attendance is for extra credit and all grades are based on weekly modules that are typically pretty easy.
Mintz is amazing. He's a storyteller in the way that he conducts class. His ability to present even the most mundane parts of history like a telling from the Iliad is a very impressive skill. Even if I'm tired in class due to no sleep, his resounding, Dumbledore-like voice draws my attention, and soon enough I'm engaged in the material again.
Professor Mintz is a very sweet, knowledgable professor that seems to really enjoy what he teaches. The lectures are never boring either; I always stayed engaged! He also offered easy extra credit every class, so I ended the class with a 100. Overall, I highly highly recommend taking a class with him if you can.
he a g
Great Guy very helpful with extra credit
Ridiculously easy. Finished the class with 105% and I never went to a single lecture. Learn how your TA grades essays and email them to ask how to improve your essays. Can do the extra credit from your bed; learned nothing. Take this class if you want the world's easiest history credit with 0 effort.
He is a sweetie, and I don't like old people. His class is so easy and honestly I wouldn't say I like history too but he made it so interesting. He played Hamilton in class and everyone sang so that was fire. But he is 10/10 and its extra credit to go to class.
I took this class to satisfy a US History core requirement. It was super easy because all of the grades come from the Canvas modules. There's between 8-12 quizzes and at least one essay due each week. The content for the quizzes are found directly in the readings in canvas. For the essays, make sure to put a lot of details but still graded easily.
Easiest A of my life. Not only were his lectures super interesting and informative, this was the easiest class I've taken at UT. Extra credit via instapolls for up to 15% of your final grade. I got a literal 100% and I played solitaire during class. Highly recommend to anyone looking to fulfill core history requirements.
Easiest course I've taken at UT. Grades are taken from assigned Canvas modules that took maybe 1.5 hours a week. Essays could be graded harshly, but tons of extra credit is given if you go to lecture. You can work on something else during lecture and simply complete the extra credit at the end. Very easy A if you do the extra credit.
Professor Mintz is a good lecturer who loves history. Class is not mandatory to attend but I recommend going to some because he gives extra credit through Instapoll. There is no textbook or tests. This is a great class to take for a credit because it will add no stress to you at all.
Quite literally the best history class I've ever taken. Mintz is a sweet, chill professor who clearly knows a ton about the subject. He really cares about his students, therefore it is nearly impossible to not get an A. Take time with the modules (that's the only grade--no tests/quizzes) and go to lectures to get extra credit. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Loved Dr. Mintz! This class was composed of weekly short readings and writing assignments on Canvas, and in-person lectures with the opportunity of extra credit at the end of every lecture through UT Instapoll. The TA's were so nice and gave amazing feedback on all the assignments. Would take it again!
I took this class for my second history credit and I walked away with so much more than a check on my degree audit. Dr. Mintz is great. He cares about this campus, his students, and his work. He is incredibly knowledgable and engaging. Take him if you can and go to class because you get a lot of wisdom from it!!!!
An essay every week about a different topic you can talk about. Super easy and lenient on grading. Put in 3-4 hours a week writing.
Literal king
He is the best history teacher at this University. There are no midterms or finals; there are just 11 modules to complete throughout the semester. He also offers tons of extra credit for showing up to class. Stress-free class.
Just a few online modules per week and a short essay or two, very low workload class
I LOVE THIS MAN! He's a wonderful professor! It makes me sad that so many ppl skip his lectures just bc they're not mandatory bc he gives such entertaining ones! He's so genuinely enthusiastic about US history, he makes what I saw as boring way more interesting. I have sm respect for him for his teaching style! It's a light Canvas module class.
Professor Mintz is an amazing man who gives great lectures. It makes me sad that no one attends his lectures because they are so interesting and he is really passionate about the topics. If you want an easy A for a mandatory history credit take Mintz. The only thing I will say is that sometimes the TA's can grade harshly on the essays.
The best part of the class are Professor Mintz's lectures, which are very engaging. All of the coursework is done online, and you don't even have to attend lectures to do well in the class, but there are extra credit questions at the end of every lecture that make it worth going. I 100% recommend this class and professor.
Took Dr. Mintz for an upper-division history course and absolutely loved it. He's such an incredible lecturer and has the ability to be both engaging and super informative. Course expectations are very clear and Dr. Mintz is very caring. I learned so much from his class and would recommend him to anyone. Best lecturer I've ever had at UT.
The best orator by far! Really easy class with a couple of essays and small quizzes covering the work for a whole week, attendance is basically extra credit.
Easy A class with engaging lectures and tons of extra credit. The TAs are super helpful, and resources like Unstuck ai make studying a breeze. Definitely recommend for fulfilling core requirements.
Easiest class you will take at UT. Mintz is a great professor who is passionate about his subject, but attending his lectures is almost entirely optional. Grade is based on the sum of a ton of online quizzes which are extremely easy (ChatGPT can get about every question right). Great course which takes a minimal amount of time.
goated professor
Professor Mintz's lectures are incredible; he turns history into a fascinating tale of real people—not heroes and villains. If you do the homework, which is phenomenally easy, this class will not only be easy but enjoyable.
I LOVE DR MINTZ!! He is very clearly passionate about what he teaches and his lectures are engaging and informative. He shows the reality of American history and its flaws as well as its successes. Doesn't sugarcoat atrocities and explains them as is. Attendance isn't mandatory, it serves as extra credit, but would 100% recommend attending
LMAOOO this class was sooo easy. Like fr, there is no way you should fail this class. Attendance is not mandatory at all, and if you go to class, it is just for extra credit (the instapoll). Btw, the TA William Kramer grades a lil harshly, just saying.
Easy A, just put in the work and do the canvas modules each week, which were always straightforwards. However, attending lecture is also rewarding, as he is one of the best history lecturers I've ever had. Very engaging.
Easiest history class you'll ever take. Info is all online, all grading is weekly quizzes/short essays in Canvas. But it's also amazing that Prof Mintz is super enthusiastic and great to listen to! Class never longer than an hour, attendance got you extra credit but not mandatory. TAKE THIS CLASS. Only hard thing was getting up for 9:30 class.
Awesome professor, great lectures, and easy assignments, they are all online without a time limit! I love this class, even the lectures are for extra credit, but I feel like you should go because they are really informative
THE BEST HISTORY PROFESSOR!! so sweet and the homework was super manageable, but grades depend on your ta. no tests!
Professor Mintz is the best lecturing professor I have ever had. US History Through Film was made such an interesting course due to him, and he was always willing to answer questions on papers. The course was only graded on 4 assignments, but as long as you answer the questions the course was an easy A.
Great professor! His lectures are amazing and engaging. I attended class about 75% of the time but all of the assignments were very easy and fun to do. I learned quite a lot about American and movie history which I truly appreciated.
Fall 2024. Mintz values making his content accessible. NO EXAMS, but weekly modules over the content he goes over in class. Modules also contain the content he teaches, so you technically don't need to go to class. Modules are multiple choice with one essay question (1200 characters). Extra credit for going to class. Low-stress overall.
Classes are extra credit so recommend going if you're lacking on the homework. Did not have to go because you can pretty much do the homework from the readings. Good professor, although the subject can get a bit boring. Easy A really.
Mintz is such a nice professor. His lectures are interesting if you pay attention, but attendance is not mandatory. The instapolls at the end of class are bonus points to your final grade. There are weekly modules with 2 short essays and multiple-choice questions. Take this class if you need an easy core.
A great class if you need an elective or to complete your core requirement. Professor Mintz is a great professor and the class is really easy and manageable. All work is done online so you don't need to go to class, but he does provide extra credit instapolls every class which can improve your grade a lot. Class always ends early too
no tests or midterms , if u attend class u take a quiz at the end for extra credit , you're just graded on 11 modules that have quizzes and an essay question. he knows what hes talkiing about and hes very passionate about it.
One of the easiest classes I've taken. Didn't show up much and ended the class with a 106, the essays get tedious at times but it's worth it. The professor is super passoipnate as well and makes lectures interesting and engaging. Grades are mostly based on weekly modules that have like 6-8 mcq based quizzes and 2 essays. Overall, 100% recommend.
Wonderful professor who taught each lecture with great passion! The class is basically fully online and coursework is very straightforward. Attendance for the lectures is optional but recommended. Definitely would recommend this class if you are trying to get your history credit.
Great professor! Super passionate about history, and you can see it when he lectures. No exams, only module assignments and very short essays every week. Overall, super easy class, 100% recommend.
Professor Mintz is great. The class is easy and it has a lot of extra credit which helped me a lot since I accidently forgot to turn in a whole module but because of the extra credit opportunities, I was still able to get an A. Take him, his lectures are also amazing, you wont regret it.
Best choice out there for the history credit! Prof. Mintz is passionate, kind, and works to make his class as accessible as possible. No tests, so your grade is entirely dependent on the open-note Canvas "quizzes" and short essays. I highly recommend going to lectures-- they're so interesting, and you earn free extra credit points. Would take again
Dr. Mintz is a great guy who clearly cares deeply about history and teaching it. That being said, you can get away with putting nearly zero effort into this class. There are weekly modules with quizzes and a short essay (
Easiest history class you can take at UT. Multiple choice modules as well as open ended ones which are lightly graded. Also can earn up to 10 points in extra credit by going to class
