Very interesting teacher, only has a mid-term and final and doesn't take attendance. He's a nice prof. and is very passionate about what he teaches.
forgot to add that he has two papers for the class also
Very interesting Sociology Through Film class with him. His views are pretty radical so dont take him if you're a closed-minded conservative prick...unless you might want to learn something new. We watched interesting films & studied the cultural messages behind them relating to society. Good class!
He is very outspoken, and not in a good way. Instead of teaching, at times he just states his opinion on which religions seem like hoaxes. His group project involves groups of 10, some members dont contribute, dont buy the books all the material on his exams are in his class lectures.
I think he was an amazing teacher. He knew what he was talking about and made everything very easy to understand. His tests are based on exactly what the study guides he hands out say. Im very happy i took this class.
A total communist. Class is somewhat easy...but holy crap. He's like Michael Moore without the Comedy.
He was very insightful, clear and direct in his lectures.
Don't buy the books. We never cracked them open. His group project was so easy. His mid-term was a joke. But he tricked us in the final, it got a little tough. Funny guy, really outspoken on politics though. His class on November 4, 2004 was dedicated to Anti-Bush banter. I loved it, but be warned.
This teacher is great. Midterm and Final are extrememyl easy, follow the study guide he gives and the test mirrors it. There is no way anyone could end up with less than an A in his class.

Mizrach is friggin' awesome. His assignments are not overly difficult and he is a freakin' genius. You will get your moneys' worth, no matter what he teaches.
Most interesting class I've had! He is awesome, he knows everything about all kinds of religions. He is VERY passionate when he lectures. Tests are easy, and come straight from the notes, dont buy the books. Trust me.
Easy class, just take good notes. He is totally biased towards the left. It doesn't matter though, I still earned a relatively easy A. Professors talk crap, he is just one of those types. Interesting character nevertheless
I did not like him. Despite giving good lectures, when it came to letting me turn a paper in late due to an emergency situation he turned into an ****.
Great professor !! Took this class we had a mid term and a final and 3 papers to write. Very fair in grading papers. We would lecture one class and watch a video in the other one.Highly recommend him.
Easy class, but he is an idiot!
Extremely easy class. If you can stay awake in class you'll get an A. One group paper and two exams with plently of review for both!
Very simple class. If you like sexuality and sociology, it is an interesting course. There is one article review, a midterm, and a final. The review is a no-brainer if you follow directions and he also does a review before the final and midterm. Just do the ONE assignment and study the material, there's no reason why you shouldn't ace this class!
Myth, Ritual and Mysticism with this professor was amazing! At first I thought he was going to be hard but not at all. One group project and a midterm and final. DONT BUY THE BOOK, you dont need it. Just attend class for the power points which are easy and clear to understand. If you are a fundamentalist and hate profanity, dont take class!
Class is easy but he does not give +/- grades so even if you work hard his scale F's you over, and you wont get the crucial GPA points. He is condiscending and an a$$, Ok professor, but I wouldnt take his classes unless you are sure you will get an A, otherwise you are just wasting time because there are only A,B,C etc. and nothing in between.
If you take his class and want an A don't buy the book but be there for all lectures and more importantly WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. He uses colorful language and is very passionate about some topics (highly annoying). No +/- in his grading scale, but his grading of papers was pretty lenient.
dont buy the book, and take good notes, class can be easy, but the grading scale kills ya. he is an ok prof. but he is bias towards the left and is closeminded in that fashion. i wouldnt take him again, once is enough. i would only take that class if i was sure i were to get an A, if not the grade system he uses will screw you over, so beware.
strange character, i think a bit overhyped when it comes to the RMP reviews. he doesnt give +/- grades which is a bummer, cause that really nocks out some GPA points if you need them especially if you earn the grade with a +. dont get the book but take good notes, and agree with what he says cause you cant have a voice in his class w/o being lefty.
He is a piece of work. He get very aggressive sometimes while teaching and teaching is def. not professional. He curses and i literally got scared coz of his temper. Its true, he said he doesn't give +/- grades but then in the end he gave me B+. ****!! Dun take him unless u dun have an option. Was happy i took him for summer.

I took this professor for syg4060. He is a greaaaat professor and I would gladly take him again. his class is so interesting and you actually learn a lot from this guy. You dont even need to buy the text book it is really unnecessary...I loved the class and it was sooo easy too. if you come to class and listen there is no way you will get less than
Good teacher. Expressed himself a bit to aggressively but a good teacher, dont buy the book just take notes and show up to the reviews.....Easy A
DONT BUY THE BOOK YOU WILL NEVER USE IT! doesnt take attendence but go to class and write down notes for midterm and final which are not that easy even if you do have the notes, but its not hard to pass. the paper is easy too but get in a group w/ your friends b/c some people dont do the paper at all and stick you w/ all the work. still i reccomend
Really good professor and very knowledgeable. No use for the book. Go to class and take notes. Some people say that he bashes Christians and Jews but he himself believes in God. Keep an open mind and you will thoroughly enjoy his class. If you're a close-minded prick who can't handle ideas contradictory to your beliefs then don't take the class.
sooo interesting, and really knows his stuff. if you are closed-minded this probably isnt for you. but i think everyone should have to take this class with him, it really makes you think. (plus it was an easy a)
he is a good teacher but a prick, he changes his grading scale at the end of the semester, and he screwed up my grade and refused to fix it, decent teacher but a bad person, dont buy the book, and take good notes, he doesnt use a +/- grade scale so hope you get an A, and god forbid you have your own opinion, he will bash it
Very Interesting class!!! He makes it fun and the material is great...He doesn't put class notes online so copy as much as you can from the power point slides. Is a very good class, recomended to everyone!!!!
Great class. Awesome lectures very interesting. Don't buy the book. Attend class everyday and write down all the notes.
very opinionated professor. at first i liked this class but he got way too authoritative towards the end. cut people off, blatantly bashed their opinions, and was rude. the tests were harder than expected. not the worst class, not my favorite either.
I want to paint him in my studio. Regardless, anyone who thinks he is "too opinionated" is simply apathetic. Mizrach cares about what he teaches. Which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for the other LAZY professors at this university. If you want to learn, take him. If you're an idiot at university for no damn reason, then just drop out.
He may seem unapproachable, but when approached he is indeed helpful. The course was easy, his lectures, though sometimes long, are always interesting. He knows the material extremely well, great stories, a very rewarding class. No book needed.
Dont spend your money on the books!..he never mentions them once..This class is pretty easy but the lectures are long and boring..bring camera and take pictures of the powerpoints cuz he doesnt post them on online..he has a really monotone voice and its really easy to fall asleep..only 2 papers and 2 tests..really easy!
Just watched movies every day and a short discussion at the end which were very interesting, 2 papers which were very simple to do because his guidelines are very clear. Midterm & Final are very easy if you've watched all the movies & go to the review. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK!!! never even mentioned it or opened it once. Easy A.
Didn't use the books at all. He's pretty interesting IF you are interested in this sort of stuff. As long as you take notes and pay attention everything will be ok. Mid term and final..and 2 papers. The papers are semi opiniated so not to worry. Fun class. Bring a camera or a tape recorder.
OCD -boring
Two papers, and multiple choice two exams with reviews. All his lectures are interesting though much better to type instead of hand write notes. Totally recommend this prof.
He is an amazing professor with incredible knowledge of the subject matter. He definitely gives his opinion, but to me, that's a good thing. You can't teach something well if you don't care about it.
NO use of textbook, recommended that you bring a laptop, he's opinionated and wont support one belief over another, he truly knows the subject.
One of the easiest classes I have taken. He was very passionate and opinionated, but I think we all are about one thing or another. Graded fairly and exams were very easy, especially because of the exam reviews which no lie were almost question for question what the exam was going to be like. Take him.
His class was easy. His handwriting is a little difficult to read but that doesn't really matter. This guy is an extreme liberal and expresses his opinions too freely. You do not need to purchase the book for this course.
Took two classes with him.. He can be a prick with very strong liberal opinions. I had a few arguments with him during class about his ideas but he seemed to enjoy debating. His tests are soooo easy with reviews that basically mirror the tests. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK.. waste of your money.... everything comes from PP slides. Attend class he presents a
I took Doctor Mizrach's hallucinogens and culture, and myth, ritual, and mysticism classes. All I can say is that this is definitely the best professor I've had. Hes very liberal and opinionated, but so am I so I saw eye to eye with many of his opinions. However, he can be a prick if you disagree. He is extremely helpful, and VERY interesting :3
Hallucinogens class - Go to class, takes notes, relax and enjoy the awesome information he has to offer you. 2 papers and 2 tests. Don't buy books he never ever uses them! great teacher, I hope to take even more of his classes
I took his myth, ritual, and mystics class over the summer and it was an easy A. Take a computer to class, because he lectures really fast and it's hard to keep up if you're writing by hand. Don't by the book, he won't use it. If you take good notes and have a pulse, you'll pass. And the class was interesting too, I looked forward to the lectur
I took this Summer A. One paper and one final exam. I am a straight A student and got a B as the final grade. He does NOT curve grades. He does not do A- which is what screwed me over. He is not a nice guy at all but he is a good lecturer. Does not look students in the eye nor does he encourage speaking up. Take another prof. if you can.
Dr. Steven Mizrach was a professor who influenced my academic career. I took every class he taught during my time at FIU. His brilliance transcends mere humans. He values well-supported opinions and detests the plight of the adjunct professor. George Costanza in hiding?-Maybe. Genius?-Definitly. Rock on, Mizrach, rock on.
I took him for summer B. One paper, One final. He was lenient with the essay, i got a 40. And idk what i got in the final yet, all i can say is i studied my *** off for it.. you have to WORK for that A.
I took his class over this Summer A and I hated him, his lectures are boring, long and he wont listen to your opinion, this is the worst class ever. He gave the study guide a day before the exam, it was one final and one paper and he would not curve at all. I took his class because I read posts from students saying he was easy but he is not at all.
I think his lectures are entertaining and he makes it fun. I took him over summer B & everything was rushed. There was 1 paper & final exam. I suggest taking pictures of the ppt slides. the information you need is on the power points. I got an A in the class & trust me Im a B average student. study the info & do the paper well. Study the review.
Extremly easy! only requires 2 assignments ( 2 papers, midterm and final. Very easy grader! Tests are super easy! there is no need to go to class! just be there for the review, memorize what is on that paper and your good!
Moderately easy class...1 two-page article review, 1 seven-page term paper, and 2 exams. His lectures are boring most of the time, but everything he talks about is in the book (which is actually pretty interesting), so you don't need to go to class most days.
Funny guy, long lectures but they're not that boring if you actually pay attention. Pictures of the powerpoint slides will help but are not necessary. Overall good class.
This class is easy, and interesting. Although I have an A, I won't praise him. This professor is pretty disrespectful. He tends to create a hostile environment for Republicans and Christians (like me), but I recommend this class. In this world, you have to understand the other side, and learn to deal with spiteful people like him.
Dr. Mizrach is a brilliant professor. He is the best professor I've taken at FIU so far. The class content is truly fascinating. He is very passionate about his field. The class consists of 1 project, a midterm, a term paper and a final. He is a fair grader and will appreciate the effort that you put into the work. Easy as long as you're into it.
Easy class, 2 papers, 2 tests. Don't have to go to class, just read and study the things in the study guide. Go once in a while to know whats going on, but over all a recommended class. Professor is very slack and smart.
I took him for Summer A. Dr. Mizrach is extremely knowledgeable of the material and manages to stimulate interest during 3 hour lectures. Very outspoken and thought provoking to those that are willing to hear some engaging info. One assignment, grades easily. One final exam, provides a review that is the test itself. Definitely will take him again!
Easy. Very liberal, do not disagree with him. He is not above calling student's views "****" simply because they don't fit is leftist ideology. You don't have to go to class, but if you do, just sit quietly and listen to his review of the final. you'll get the easiest A of your life
Took the class for Summer A. Very easy, and if you read the entire book you don't have to go to class. He's very lenient when he grades papers just don't try to take advantage of that, make sure you put some effort into it. I got an A and only went to class four times.
You reallly don't need to show up to class. The're is only one grade(the final). I took him summer B. Lectures were pretty boring but it could be due to the 3 hour duration. STUDY FOR THE TEST! you get a study guide that says what you'll be tested on. I Crammed the night before and got a 79. if you attend class and pay atention, dont need the book
TOOK HIM DURING SUMMER B. NOT THE MOST INTERESTING GUY BUT INSERTS HUMOR IN LECTURE SOMETIME. HE IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT HE TEACHES. YOU DONT HAVE TO GO TO CLASS, AS LONG AS YOU READ THE BOOK YOU WILL DO FINE. THERES ONE EXAM & YOU GET A STUDY GUIDE. I RARELY WENT TO CLASS & CRAMMED THE NIGHT BEFORE AND PASSED . I RECOMMEND
Took him for Summer B, I absolutely love the class, eventhough he has controversial opinions, is such an eye opening class. He is pretty funny and as long as you read the book you are good to go. Study your a** off for the test and you'll be good to go.
He's highly intelligent & extremely knowledgeable about what he teaches. Take notes during class, read book & you should be ok. If possible don't take this class during the summer because there's a lot of material to remember & final grade is avg. of a paper & the final. Only critique, it seems as though he dislikes it when students ask questions.
Smart professor. Gets very into lecture at times making his point of views very clear. Took him in the summer which consisted of 1 grade which was the final. Final is all multiple choice and its basically the same as the study guide he gives the class before. Got an 89% :( lol
Freaking amazing teacher, if you are a republican, then pack your bags, cuz he is extremely liberal. Attendance not mandatory, 2 papers which are easy just follow guidelines, midterm was ok, just study whats on the study guide, same thing goes for the final. He is an awesome yet awkward guy who is very knowledgeable.
I took sociology with this professor during summer B. the only assignment was the final exam. study your butt and do the entire study and you should get an A or a B. he really knows what he's talking about
Dr. Mizrach is an amazing professor. He is extremely passionate about his subjects so it makes you be more interested. The class itself is not hard midterm final and a paper, not many grades but the exams are easy and he gives word for word review before them. Take this class you won't regret it! Attendance is not required.
Dr. Mizrach is a great prof! Incredibly knowledgeable in his field and stimulates much interest during his lectures. As some have stated, he's not hesitant to share his views, and that's ok. I'd rather have a passionate prof than a careless one. One short paper, grades easily. Two exams. Provides review that is the test itself! Take him for a class
I would recommend this class to anyone. I admit missing a lot of class after the midterm but if you use the review and read the book for the 2 exams, you'll pass for sure! 2 exams, 1 EASY essay. i might take another class with Mizrach. You will learn and you'll get a good grade along with the credit. Lecture is kinda boring but the book/review help
Passionate about his beliefs, listen to what he says in class and the midterm and final will be straightforward. Some papers to write, grading is fair. Gives a review before the tests. I spend every class tallying up how many times he says the phrase 'BY THE WAY' but at least its funny and it keeps me awake. Easy class, good professor.
I took him for hallucinations & globalization. Both classes were SUPER easy. You do not need the text book. His reviews for exams are exactly what is on the exam. His classes are really interesting and he is fun to listen to. I would recommend him any day. Not only did I learn a lot, but I got an easy A as well.
This professor is aswesome!! @ exams, 1 essay. He gives you a study guide for each exam which are the midterm and the final. Class was interesting!! I would definitely reccommend this class. But you do have to attend class to get notes. He uses powerpoints!!! No use of book.
Extremely easy class. The only annoying thing is that you are forced to go to class due to the powerpoints not being available online. Don't bother buying the books. He gives study guides that even if you have missed class allow you to get a nice grade on the test, but the study guide for the final is much more vague, since the test is cumulative.
Mizrach is a great lecturer. Passionate about his views and makes the study of racial and ethnic minorities thought provoking. Incorporates current events such as the 2012 elections. 2 exams, provides reviews that are the test itself. An article review and term paper, grades easily. Take Mizrach for anything if you actually want to learn. Awesome!
Sociology through Film was a great course. Films shown were really interesting and were good examples with sociological themes and concepts. Discussions about current social issues were also interesting. Fun course and made to be easy. One exam, provides a review sheet and a film analysis on movie of your choice. Great professor and class!
Great professor. He is very knowledgeable and entertaining in his lectures. He doesn't check attendance, and the class is all lecture, no participation. What you earn in this course is all on you. Only tests are midterm and final, which he provides great reviews for. One short paper/project and a large term paper. Very lenient grading the papers.
Mizrach is great! Does an excellent job at lecturing and getting students interested in course. A term paper and project, grades easily. A midterm and final exam, not too bad if u study the reviews. Although exams were a little more difficult than other classes I've had with him, he curved the grading scale. Great experience, Mizrach is the best!
VERY passionate professor. He's a really good lecturer and knows how to keep the students interested. This was a great class, we watched fiction films and discussed sociological topics. Only a paper and a final. He gives a review sheet that has everything you need for the final. Very interesting, very easy class. You learn a lot. Highly recommend.
Professor Mizrach is one of the best I've had just because he makes the class intriguing and extremely interesting with his points of view. For fall 2013 there were only 2 tests and a term paper which were fairly simple if you attend class. Overall you'll have a great experience as long as you're willing to go in with enthusiasm and an open mind.
Took him for Hallucinogens & Culture, such a cool dude. You learn so much, he definitely knows how to keep students engaged. Class is simple: two papers and two exams. Pretty easy if you attend lecture everyday.
8-10 page term paper, small project/paper, midterm and final exam. He's an easy grader. I think almost everyone got a perfect score on their papers. Class is not mandatory, and he gives REALLY good exam reviews. Everything on the review will be on the test. Easy class, just REALLY boring. Don't buy the book. I never used it and got an A.
TAKE HIM! Super easy class! 2 Exams - Midterm & Final-Both multiple choice,2 Papers - 1 (2-3 Pg) Article Review & 1-8 Pg paper on any topic relating to globalization. Dr. Mizrach is a very straight forward guy, no unnecessary homework etc. Doesn’t penalize on citations or format of papers, easy grader and attendance is not mandatory. Good luck!
I don't get what the hype is about. The class is taught off of slides and some movies. Sure, the papers (2) and exams (2) are not difficult, and a lot of the material is fascinating if you've never read up on drugs, but there are no interesting discussions. Mizrach is actually pretty rude to students expressing views different than his, too.
Professor Mizrach is one of the best professors at FIU. The class consists of 4 grades. 1) Midterm exam worth 50 points, 2-3 page article review worth 30 points, 6-8 pages paper worth 50 points and Final worth 100 points. Easy grader on the papers and provides a review for the exams. The book isnt required and there is no strict attendance policy.
Dr. Mizrach has been my favorite professor here at FIU. He is extremely up front, genuinely cares about what he teaches, very laid back, and approachable. He grades fairly and gave useful feedback on my papers. If you need an upper level credit completed take one of his three classes. I'm certain I will take another when offered.
This class by far was my favorite of all time. The topic is interesting and he really knows what he is talking about. Hes a super easy grader when it comes to papers and his tests are more in depth than his review. Go to class get an A.
I've taken six classes with him. I love his classes, attendance is not mandatory. Every class I've taken works like this: Mid-Term & Final, all multiple choice no essay questions. Go to his reviews, which cover everything one day before the exam. Every class has a 2 page article review, and a 6 page research paper.
His class is interesting. He tackles a lot of interesting and current social issues. He provides a lot of different sources and perspectives in his lectures. He makes the class easy and relative to our lives.
He is extremely and some might even go as far as calling him disrespectful. I tried to participate in a discussion that he was having with himself but he quickly start insulting my opinions and thought process. I don't recommend taking this class or any class with him if you want to learn and enjoy the subject. He also curses excessively.
Taken ANT 4473, SYP 4421, ANT 3241 & SYP 4631 with him. 2 exams(Midterm 50 + Final 100) + 1 paper (50 pts) Seriously learned so much in his classes & his grading policy is also fairly simple. Not a harsh grader & is always there if you have any questions or concerns. Willing to work with you if you need extra time on papers & attendance not req.
Professor Mizrach is the best professor i have had so far! He is very passionate about what he teaches, and he makes things easy to understand. There is no bs in his class, and i feel like i actually learn a lot. I would definitely take one of his classes again!
Really liked this class. His lectures are really interesting and he gets very animated and entertaining during them. Only exams are midterm and final. Gives out review sheet for each exam and goes over it beforehand. The exams can be kind of tricky but study and you'll be fine. 2 papers. One 3 pages and the other 6-10. Grades fairly.
The easiest class I have taken at FIU. You watch interesting modern hollywood film and discuss the sociological themes they acquire. Attendance is not mandatory but bare in mind that you should show up to at least the midterm and final in-class review since it is WORD BY WORD the exam. 1 paper 6-10 pg. and that was it. TAKE HIM !!
My first class I ever took at FIU and I highly recommend him for any class. He'll tell you that you need the textbook but you never ever wind up using it. Attendance is not mandatory and he's hilarious.
I had him for Ant. of Religion (Myth, Ritual, and Mysticism) and currently for Ant. of Globalization. Had 2 papers, a midterm and a final (he reviews both). Heavy lecturer, easy grader. Don't take him if you get mad over people disagreeing with you since he is strongly passionate about what he believes in. Didn't use book, no matter what he says.
I'll cut it short, class was scheduled for 3 hrs. + spent 2hrs mostly ranting. Instead of cutting to the chase & staying on topic, he rants about the same things weekly. He utilizes no learning activities, he doesn't care for them. And if your class has over 100 students you will be graded with just the Final Exam, there's no grading curve.
Professor Mizrach is my favorite professor at FIU; he's hilarious and doesn't require attendance. However, if you don't like having your religion critisized don't take him, there is no room for fundamentalists either. I'd take all of his classes if I could. Love him.
Final grade depending on only the Final Exam just because class is more than 100 students? Not fair. Final exam was 100 questions, tricky questions. No extra credit.
took it in the summer and the only grade was the final (100% of your grade) however, he explains very well, and the final is just like what he says its going to be in the study guide and the final review he did. I would record him in the last class and lisen to it over an over. You study well for 2 days and you can definitely get more than 90%.
Dr. Mizrach is phenomenal. His course was incredibly interesting on its own, but he makes the lectures funny and engaging. He offers views from different perspectives. Only two exams and two papers for the semester, and he provided exam reviews for each exam. I would take his classes every semester if I could!
Alright lecturer, but opinionated and mean. His final is tricky and unfair.
Boring lecture and hard final exam, which weighs a lot. He takes points off from papers for nothing. Gets angry when asked questions and thinks he is the only one that has a right opinion.
This class would be interesting if the teacher were better. He is the most boring leacturer, walks from side to side of the classroom like a crazy person and says many bad words to "wake us up". His power point slides are huge paragraphs of content that he doesn't post. His final is insane and doesn't give extra credit.
If you can handle the cussing and rants, you can get some interesting insight out of the lectures. It helps if you are a bit of a geek, as that is how you'll learn best. In terms of the four assignments, if you take your time with the two essays and give yourself a week to study for the two tests, you'll be fine.
Easy class if you listen to his lectures and take notes. Don't bother getting the book you're not even going to use it. His final and midterm are sorta difficult so make sure to study in depth. Do the papers and study for his exams you should be fine.
Annoying and passes through slides very quickly jumping from topic to topic trying to mix in information between flat jokes. Insensitive and uncomfortable.
I absolutely love this teacher! So funny. Please be advised that if the class holds more than 100 people.. he will do only one final exam that determines your whole grade. Textbook was not needed although he says you need it. I bought the textbook and never had to use it. Pay attention to his lectures and make sure to bring a laptop! He goes fast.
He doesn't take attendance but I wouldn't advise skipping class since he doesn't post the powerpoints online and the only grade is the final. In the beginning of the semester he told the entire class that the textbook is mandatory but mid semester I overheard him tell another student that everything in the slides is what's on the final.
I had him during the summer and my class was over 100 students so the only grade was the final. Don't buy the book you don't need it. Just come to class and take notes . He gives a review at the end of the semester that has everything that will be on the test.
hes actually really funny, his lectures are interesting but you need to pay attention he goes by a little bit quick but aside from that you should be good
By all means necessary TAKE THIS COURSE! Prof. Mizrach is the most intelligent, easy-going, & respectable professor I've ever met. His lectures are super interesting & straight to the point. Class is extremely easy but you'll learn more about social issues, history, & current events in this film class than in any other regular boring course.
The book was never used. Lectures every class. Final grade is based upon a midterm, final, and 2 papers. Gives useful study guides for the midterm and final. Overall, he lectures wonderfully and explains things in a way in which you understand and remember. Definitely take notes.
Mizrach is an amazing teacher. Attendance is not mandatory, but in class it is nice to take notes, pictures of the slides, and even audio recordings because they help out with the papers and exams. The class is graded by 2 papers (myth analysis and term paper) and 2 tests (midterm exam and final exam). Overall, a fun experience and I learned a lot.
Based on 2 papers, a midterm, and final. You NEED to take notes in order to pass. So funny. Dont take this class if youre easily offended because he is very passionate about the subject!
Took ANT3241 during summer B term and it was quite easy. Class was like 3 hrs of just lecture. Some days i found the topics interesting and others were kinda boring but still the final test was easy and just like the study guide and reviews online.
Took summer B class. I saw that for his classes he usually assigns 2 papers, a midterm and a final, false. He told us that there were too many of us in the class and he didnt feel like grading all of that so our only assignment will be the final. Doesn't matter if your a good note taker/lecture recorder, His lectures are completely opinionated.
I had him for the summer B semester. His lectures were extremely interesting. He stated at the beginning of the semester that the final would be the only grade, which as an incoming freshman, seemed a bit daunting, but the final was easy. Make sure to sit in the first couple of rows AND TAKE PICS OF THE SLIDES AND WRITE IT DOWN!!!
Took it for Summer B and it was a great class. The lectures were often very interesting and entertaining. Mizrach is a charismatic lecturer so paying attention for 3 hours wasn't that bad. The final was pretty easy but you definitely have to study for it. He doesn't post the slides online so you have to show up.
This class is very chill bc attendance isnt mandatory, you dont have any hw, assignments or tests either. The only grade when I took this class (summer B) was the final. He gave us a study guide and you just have to study from that and youll do good. Either take notes during class or take pics of the slides
Took Intro to Anthropology this past semester and it was EXTREMELY interesting to say the least. Attendance is not mandatory, however his lectures are informative and helpful for the midterm/final. His review is 10/10 and he's great with responding back in a timely manner. He is HILARIOUS, I would definitely take one of his courses again in future
I love Dr. Mizrach! He's very blunt and straight up with his lectures and you have to pay attention and go to class if you want to pass. A little life hack is to take a picture of the board and voice record his lectures because he specifies exactly what he wants from you. Midtern, term paper, myth analysis and final.
This professor is AMAZING! He knows all of his information and is true to his work. Also, he does use heavy profanity but it elevates the intensity of the information being provided. He only has four grades and no extra credit so its important that you turn everything in. However, he is hard to get a hold of outside of class.
This guy's a homie lol. Class is funny, he makes good jokes and makes boring things interesting, but he doesn't care at all if you aren't going to class or listening to him lecture. If you suck at working on your own and need your professors to really engage with you, you'll prob struggle. He lectures powerpoint but doesn't post them so go 2 class!
Your grade is based on 4 things; myth analysis, midterm, term paper, & final. Not a class for someone who gets offended easily. Definitely a class for those who want to learn and have their views challenged. Take pictures of all his slides, he doesn't post them online. Great study guide reviews.
PHENOMENAL PROFESSOR. He is incredibly passionate about his teachings and is very knowledgeable on nearly any topic of anthropology. His lectures are extremely entertaining yet informational, and he's very clear about what is going to be on the exam by covering all the material in an exam review. Definitely recommend, I've taken him three times!
Professor Mizrach is really easygoing and makes his lectures fun. I took him for Summer B and the only assignments we had was a paper and a final. He gives a review for the final and it's super easy. Gives you the entire semester to turn in one paper.
Professor Mizrach is unique. I would take every course he teaches if I could. Be aware that he is not a common teacher.
Professor Mizrach is an absolute delight. His classes never failed to entertain me and they were a breath of fresh air compared to my other courses. He is very understanding and he cares about his students. I 100% recommend taking his classes. I don't think anyone would regret it.
Took this class Summer 2020 semester. Two grades for entire semester: 10 page research paper on how religion affects an aspect of society + final. He did a very thorough review before the final. Amazing lectures, made it easy to understand. Super easy class. Definitely recommend it if you need a GL credit.
Took an online class with Professor Mizrach and learned a lot! Great lectures that were super entertaining and funny (if you get offended easily don't join his class) He is super laid back and I looked forward to his classes every week. Only took 2 exams which were easy if you pay attention during the reviews & 2 papers which were pretty simple!
Funny, great lectures, and there are only four assignments for the whole semester: two papers, a midterm, and a final. Lectures are optional but recommended. Holds review lectures on the class before each exam, where he goes over all the material that could show up on the exam. Textbook isn't really needed if u pay attention in class & take notes.
Professor Mizrach is a must if youre learning to learn a lot, but not put effort in. His lectures were super interesting, and his personality is truly hilarious. Makes lots of jokes that could come off as crude, so itd be best to skip him if youre in the sensitive side. 2 papers, midterm and final; truly surprising how easy and fun class was.
Ignore the rest, I will tell you exactly how this class is. There are only 4 assignments for the entire semester, two tests and two term papers. If you do these 4 assignments you will pass anyone of his class. I never attended class(work), but still passed based off the assignments. I never attended, but I have heard that his lectures are amazing.
He's the GOAT. His class is literally a podcast of great topics and great commentary.
Took this class in the summer and there were only 2 assignments: the final exam and a final paper. Super easy if you pay attention to the study guide class. But overall, really interesting topics are covered and it was super entertaining.
For summer B, his Myth Mythicism Ritual class had two assignments: A term paper, and a final exam, which is open notes. Overall, most of the questions came from the lectures, so be sure to pay attention to them.
Very interesting speaker and a generous grader! Would definitely recommend his classes, only had two papers, a midterm and a final.
great lectures that you should try going to even though attendance isn't mandatory, we just had like three exams and two papers that are all very easy as long as you go to the review class and follow directions, easy A
No cap I probably showed up to this class 1/6 meetings yet learned all the material via the PPTs uploaded online he uses to guide his lectures in person. There was really only a final exam and final paper to prepare for but that's about it. Pretty straightforward class, I'd recommend it!
Made the class really interesting and easy to understand. Attendance wasn't required and not necessary to pass the class. only grades in the class are 2 papers, a mid-term, and a final.
He only grades 4 things in the grade book, two papers, midterm and final. The final weighs everything out so much that my grade went from a B to a D. Make sure to do anything extra credit if you want to avoid this issue. If your looking for an easy elective to graduate I recommend something else and easier. This class ruined my gpa.
Sometimes all a class needs is a professor to teach a course jacked up on liquid gold in the form of heavy lecture and being engaging. You have very few assignments, only two exams (midterm + final), and you will learn a lot of mythology, religion, history, and theory. Take this class if you want to LEARN, although passing isn't a Herculean task
Honestly one of my favorite professors. He is so funny and you can tell he really enjoys this subject which makes his lectures even more entertaining. He clearly states what he is expecting from your assignments and makes it very easy to succeed in his class. Totally recommend his classes.
The professor very clearly knows what he is talking about and is passionate about anthropology which leads to very engaging lectures. Attendance is not checked so it's very easy to skip class but I would not recommend it because there are only 4 grades entered throughout the entire semester which were 2 papers and 2 tests.
His class is based on lectures and 4 assignments. The lectures are really interesting (he is funny & sarcastic) but not mandatory. The two papers are simple and he isn't a harsh grader at all. He also does a review for the midterm and final with all the information you'll need. I'm taking another class of his in spring so that says a lot.
I loved this professor so much. His lectures are great, he's super nice and understanding, and he's a very generous grader. That being said, you need to attend lectures or review them so you can get a good grade since its only 2 papers and 2 tests.
So his lectures are super interesting and provide a ton of great information. However, he grades only based off 2 papers and 2 exams. He's a fairly generous grader for the papers but his exams are a bit difficult and the study guide he provides isn't very useful. He doesn't offer any extra credit to help your grade either. Wouldn't recommend.
DO NOT TAKE;NOT RECOMMENDED Theres 2 papers and 2 exams but final exam decides your final score because it weighs ALOT and its a HARD exam. Its 100Q, in person, no open notes. No extra credit either. His study guides are bad and he wont give you his ppts(cant be found online). If you have attention issues his lectures will be awful for you btw
This was not my most interesting class but you can tell the professor is passionate about the subject. The Powerpoints are essential to passing the class. Only graded by a term paper, a final paper, the midterm, and the final. It is not difficult but effort is needed. Jokes made the class feel like a conversation rather than a lecture (lot of info)
Great professor. Class is lecture based and very interesting. Attendance is optional. no hmw. Only issue is class is based on 4 grades. 1 midterm, 2 papers, 1 final. Take the extra credit if given, the final isn't that easy. Overall funny class and if you pay attention and study you'll enjoy it.
His class is so interesting but it is only based on a few assignments. Honestly idk why people are saying the mid term and final are "hard" just study what he tells you to & take good notes in class. The papers aren't graded harshly at all either. ALSO he does give extra credit but you have to go up to and ASK. Easy A in my opinion.
Your grade consists of 2 exams (midterm and final) as well as 2 papers. Honestly, this class wasn't difficult, you just have to study a lot for the exams, attendance was not mandatory at all. He gives extra credit as the end of the semester if you ask. The final exam weighs a lot! his lectures are hilarious, he's very passionate about his subject!
Although it's a very easy class (2 papers, 2 tests), I didn't like that it consisted of many lectures. He's very sweet, but not very accessible outside of class and isn't very interactive. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go you won't pass midterm + final. I wouldn't take him again just because I found the lectures boring but easy A....!
Professor's lectures are engaging, but the grading relies heavily on 2 exams and 2 papers. The final exam is particularly challenging, so regular attendance and study prep with resources like unstuckstudy are key to success. Overall, an interesting class if you put in the work.
Not a bad professor, but he occasionally rants about politics and gets upset if questioned. The final exam is heavily weighted, so study carefully. Online Quizlets are helpful, and you MUST know the names and contributions of historical figures is crucial—they dominate the test.
It makes absolutely no sense for the final of this class to have that much weight on the grade. He ended the class with a 69.47, and even though the same happened to many others, he didn't curve or round, not even a 1%.
Professor knows what he's talking about and lectures are interesting. BUT the final is graded so heavy it can knock you down multiple grades even at an A if you don't do exceptionally well. And his extra credit assignment in my opinion is ridiculous. A 5page essay for only 10 points is not even worth it in my opinion
Excellent professor. Always on time, prepared, and makes lectures engaging and easy to follow. Summer class was 6 weeks with only 2 grades: term paper + final. He even held a detailed review before the exam. Funny, approachable, and truly wants students to succeed. Highly recommend.
Totally unprofessional for a Professor to be talking politics.
I loved his lectures they were super entertaining and kept the class engaged. There are only 2 assignments and 2 exams so the grades weigh heavy but overall loved this class. Came in with no interest and actually learned a lot of stuff.
overall a decent professor and his lectures tend to be interesting, but has the habit of going off topic and rambling about things that aren't class related, like politics. his exams are pretty difficult, especially the final, so make sure to study alot
Has the tendency to rant and this will be hell for you if you have ADHD. He's nice enough but unprofessional at times, like when he gets too passionate about his opinions and reacts badly if someone argues with him against them. tough grader as well and his class only has a few assignments, so the final exam will destroy you if you fail it
