He is a GREAT teacher, definately TAKE HIS CLASS! You can learn a lot about life and other people. He likes to interact with the class and uses fun examples. His exams use the text(which is straight forward) but the lecture material can be rough.

Great teacher and a great class. Lectures are clear, as long as you a) go to class or b) read them over alot. Text is a little boring, but not unbarable, and the lectures are definitly interesting enough to make up for it. Youll be amazed at what you lear

Dr. Mortenson is an excellent teacher. He makes the subject matter interesting and the tests are easy as long as you read his notes and know the bold words at the end of each chapter. The guy who gave Dr. M a bad review is obviously not very bright.

Hes cool/funny. Lectures can be a bit long, but w/lecture book u dont technically have 2go2 class(class is good 4 further understanding of the material). Ask if each section in chapters will B on test on review days(go to them!). About half of test is book stuff so study! T/F from lectures r tricky!

nice guy, very easy going. his class isn't too painful to sit through. his tests arent the easiest but they arent overly hard either. the true/false questions from the lectures can be tricky. but if you go to class the day he reviews for the test he will basically give you the info needed from book

Excellent. Doesn't rely too heavily on the text book. If you take good notes then you will do real well. Very bright and scholarly, yet down to earth and approachable. I honestly wish more professors would follow his lead. Great guy and great teacher.

One of the best professors at the university. Wish the class was smaller for more interaction. Mortenson is one of the few teachers who actually enjoys teaching. He gives you the notes for every lecture before classes even start but you should still go to class just because he's so cool.

Hot in a so amazing want to marry him sort of way! He's the reason I'm an IP major! He cares so much about the students and teaches material that really applies to our lives! Everything thing he says is worth listening to regardless of the test...so go to class...don't bother with the readings.

If I were to grade just the lectures, I'd give him an easy A- for being interesting, I think his personality deserves a solid A, but the test questions are out of NOWHERE and it's very frustrating because you can't really study for them. He does give extra credit (not sure how he determines it) and honestly, the class isn't bad, so just take it.

Ok so prof. mortenson is the man. His material really makes you think. The way he talks to us is like equals, not like his students. He hates giving exams, and gives lots of extra credit. Careful with the exams though, they are hard (he used to work for Kaplan, think SATs). I HIGHLY reccommend this class (actually more the professor).

Everyone says this class is a piece of cake, well maybe it was at one time, but that whole tons of extra credit thing is out the door. He claims his tests are easier so now there are only 6 points of extra credit, which some people may think is a lot, but by my standards definately is not. Don't take this for an easy A.

so freakin hilarious. one friday half the class wasnt there and he was making jokes about people boozing too hard, then everyone started yelling for him to give us extra credit for showing up and he yelled "SHUT THE F*CK UP!". he's so uncensored and realistic.. he also incorporated the shocker into a lesson once. love him.

I have yet to find one professor in the comm department that is not amazing. Mortenson is no except. He is such a good professor and his class is so interesting! It's a mix of philosophy and communications. My only complaint about him is that on his tests he included quotes that you have to say what they mean and they purposefully try to trick you.

I was never really as obsessed with Mortenson as a lot of my peers were, because he is real cocky, and definitely had his favorites. However, the class was interesting for the most part, and attendance was never taken. Tests were not bad if you studied.

funny guy, tests are hard. I guess my biggest complaint is that he takes forever to get out test grades posted. Its electronic... and yet it sometimes took over a week. I understand the class is big, but my psych class is the same size and test grades are always posted the next day

AWESOME professor. Very funny, down to earth guy who will answer any question anyone asks until everyone in the room understands. Exams are hard, certainly not an EASY class. You have to put a decent amount of effort in to do well. But definitely a worthwhile class. Lectures nor mandatory but I thought they were fun to go to!!

Mortenson is a really great teacher. Most of the time, his lectures are interesting to listen to. However, there are only 3 tests for the semester. They are difficult, but he curves the first two by a couple points. I went in thinking I would only come out with a B but I got an A-. He also reviews for tests the class before.

the chillest professor ive had so far at UD. his lectures are more like life lessons. attendance isnt taken but u will miss out if you dont go. the tests are hard so just internalize the lectures and the textbook. most comm interest majors freak out that if they dont get a good grade then thats it for them, but just chill out and study hard.

Really fun class. Dr. M tells great stories. There really no homework, sometimes the occasional textbook reading. There are only 3 tests and no final. The tests are really tricky so study hard. He is really nice and very approachable so if you have a question just ask!

Interesting lectures, he gives you all you need to know. Exams aren't simple but are absolutely doable and an A is attainable if you make the effort. Oh, and he's probably the coolest professor you'll ever have here.

Dr.Mortonson is one of my favorite professors. The tests are pretty difficult if you don't go to class and take notes. He's hysterical and tells great stories which keeps you interested. Make sure you study for his tests, I made the mistake of not studying as hard as I should have and didn't do well but ended up with a B overall.

Sends out lecture packets by email so you can follow easier and take notes straight on the lecture. Wish I had him again. Hard tests...but read and you can squeeze out a good grade. Mortenson is AWESOME! provides anecdotes about his kids, wife. references real life things that interest us, like drinking. tests are okay, a little tricky just have to study. uses a course handbook authored by himself that helps convey his material nicely. SO FUNNY, great class!!!

Literally one of the greatest professors i've had. he makes real world comparisons that make everything really easy to understand. the course is a little difficult, but if its something you're interested in you will get a good grade. Highly recommend this course. love love loved it.

This course is not too bad, he is really funny, cracks jokes alot, refernences real life situations to his lectures. First test is tough but the others aren't too bad. You don't have to go to class, but its highly recommended. He's great during office hours, they'll help, but this class does take effort and preparation in order to do well.

Explains everything well but then his tests are always a curveball. You have to navigate your way with him to figure out how he operates. Not impossible though to get above a B.

This was my favorite class. Mortenson made lectures really interesting. Only 3 exams, and the third one counts as the final. Exams can be tricky, but the class lectures definitely outweigh the difficulty of exams. You do use the textbook and his own book of notes a lot, so you should buy those. Take this class!! This is a big class, but he is available for office hours a lot. He's a very funny and chill guy. The class is a bit worrisome because the grade is only 3 tests, but if you study hard and do the readings, you'll be ok.

Best prof I've ever had at UD. Funny, nice and genuinely cares about his students. Very disorganized, but he's understanding and easy going, as long as he knows you're putting in some effort and not taking his kindness for granted. No exams, just papers and reading to do. Contribute in class discussions, turn papers in on time and you'll do fine.

He was one of my favorite professors this year. He is hilarious and all of his lectures were extremely interesting. Do your work outside of class. He does pull half of his test questions from the textbook. It is a great class; you have to put work in to get a good grade. He gives extra credit which boosts your grade by one whole letter grade.

At office hours he is extremely helpful and mindful, and just being in his presence is enjoyable. I reccomend studying in groups especially if you're a COMI major. You will learn a lot about yourself and other people. The two course packs are mandatory and EXTREMELY helpful. If you take notes in them instead of a notebook studying easy.

Mortenson is the best professor I've ever had. He will review as much as you need to (including staying 40 min after office hours to answer questions). His lectures are interesting and inspirational. I use something I learned in his class everyday. He only gives 3 tests that each cover a lot of material, but they are all multiple choice or TF.

Whoa. This class was unlike any I had ever taken. Prof. Mortenson touches some crazy topics that in many cases are hard to understand. The tests are very difficult and there isn't much homework. He's incredibly helpful and will always be there if you need help or don't understand anything, and his lectures are amazing and hilarious.

He cares about every student in the class and wants you to be a better person after his class. We had two tests and three essays to write (all about yourself-easy). I got an A in this class and I will take him as a prof again 100%.

I hated this class. So much. Very lecture heavy and the material is very "abstract", it is closer to a philosophy class. I failed the first test and the second, even after preparing for about a week. I advise going to office hours, something I regret not doing. However, he is a great professor very inspirational. Just a really rough class.

Professor Mortenson is the most amazing teacher I have ever had. He's hilarious and is able to relate everything back to your life as a college student. He answers questions very clearly and tells you exactly what is going to be on the exam as well as answers to them. The exams are super challenging but the material is simple to understand.

Mortenson is a gem. He'll give you an A for trying. The man is smart and helps you find things out about yourself you never knew were in you. He's more focused on the individual than being tough. Warning though: he isn't organized and isn't as warm towards type-A people. Try to relax when you're in his class and he will like you more.

Dr. M was that professor that really made you see your life in a different way after each lecture. I took this course over winter session and I never wanted to miss a class. The tests are very difficult, and I studied for them and only ended up with a B+, but the class was still worth it.

Mortenson is hilarious and will curse up a storm during class. He'll try not to offend anyone but if you're not one for crude humor, stay away. His lectures are really fun to listen to and the class is not mandatory. However, I suggest going just to hear him explain things in his book. He also tells you everything that's on the test so... easy A!

Mortenson is one of the best professors I've had so far. He makes you look at things and life a lot differently. I highly recommend going to his office hours for extra help because he will tell you what is exactly on the test when it can seem kind of broad and confusing. The class was in classic comm 3 test format. The professor really wanted his students to succeed he was super helpful in and out of class. His lectures were easy to understand and he was always open to questions. The course reader packets were definitely helpful because it was where the meat of the test info came from.

Besides teaching, Mortenson would give hilarious and touching life advice that I take with me forever. His exams are a bit trickier than the other COMM class exams. I studied hard each exam and ended up with a B+. I would take advantage of office hours. Not an easy A class, but if you're looking to take a class that makes you think, this is it.

Dr. Mortenson's 256 class is one of the best I've ever taken. As long as you show up, pay close attention to the lectures, take good notes, and make an effort to synthesize the information he gives you, this class will be amazing. However, there are only three tests with no cumulative final -- so make it count.

You must take this class. However, I would recommend taking it over Winter session because there is literally no homework and the tests are super easy. The stuff you learn in this class is so useful in life so it makes class worth coming to and the discussions he holds help you in life and in the classroom too. TAKE DURING WINTER SESSION.

He is just honestly the greatest person ever. The material isn't always the easiest, but he will sit with you for hours until you understand it. He just gets what it's like to be us. Wow I literally love this man, take anything and everything you can with him.

The only assignments are three exams and three extra credit assignments. If you are a good test taker then this class should be an easy A, as long as you study.

Easily one of my favorite professors I've had. Hilarious and sometimes goes off on little tangents but they're guaranteed to make you laugh, but also super smart and definitely knows what he's talking about. Take good notes and STUDY THEM and you'll be fine - I'd recommend sitting in the front and asking as many questions as you can!

The only grades are exams and some extra credit so make sure you study for exams and try to make friends in the class to study with. BEST PROFESSOR! Material goes way beyond classroom and career, it inspires your life. Considered a "weeder" class for the major so exams are purposely very hard, so you do have to put work in. 3 hard exams with lots of extra credit opportunity, and an A is a 95+. Doesn't record lecture so important that you go to class, he made me want to come tho.

Mortenson was one of my favorite professors first semester freshman year. He is super funny and makes the material easy to understand. I recommend going to class and filling out your course pack to get useful information for the exams, which are the only grades. The true and false questions are hard, but study and you will be fine!

Morty is awesome. He makes it hard to get an A bc it's a weed out course. Graded by 3 exams and he does extra credit before each exam. Really funny guy and lectures were lively. It took longer for me to apply and understand theoretical material, but it wasn't impossible. You definitely need to study, studying in groups helps! No course capture.

Prof. Mortenson is the BEST!! Super lecture-heavy but really interesting content. Exams aren't easy so you need to study a lot, but the material is cool so it's not bad. He really cares about you doing well if you go to him for helps. He explains things really well and talks to you like a peer/equal, not like a professor talking down to a student.

Mortenson is quirky and an intelligent professor. He's very passionate about the curriculum which makes it interesting and pretty easy to follow. I didn't think I'd like a big lecture class, but he doesn't make it feel like a huge class, he makes it personal. I had it online so it may be different in person, but tests are very straight forward.

Mortenson was an amazing professor. He made our lectures very interesting and very thought provoking. However, I have never received my extended time on any quizzes or tests. I would email numerous times, and resend my accommodations; no response or anything else.

Had some 1-2 page papers due every 2ish weeks that weren't graded and you got a 100% just for turning them in. Then we have 2 final papers due at the end of the semester that are graded on quality not completion. Attendance wasn't mandatory and the content was really easy to understand. Love Mortenson alwayssss.

3 test all semester with a couple of writing prompts, gives you extra credit. I sat all year with a 76 thinking I would fail but with the extra credit I ended with an A-. One of my favorite prof who is caring and compassionate person. 10/10 recommend everyone should experience his class if you attend UD.

Loved his class. Make sure to sit closer to the front so you're not tempted to go on your phone. Exams are easy just make sure you take notes and actually do the readings. So much extra credit it's laughable. Also overall a great guy. You can tell he really enjoys teaching.

Best prof I've had so far! Only homework is three easy papers, his lectures are interesting, and he has a great personality. He curses like a sailor and has a great sense of humor, which makes class very enjoyable. Tests can be tricky, but he gives a LOT of extra credit, so you can still get an A if you mess up on tests.

This class was pretty much a breeze as I was taking it for a breadth, but actually learned a lot about myself and communication through it. BEST PROFESSOR! makes a huge lecture haul feel very personal. Although exams are very challenging, I wouldn't let that stop you from taking this course. 3 easy papers, 3 exams, and 1 short quiz. Tons of extra credit opportunities in class. My grade went from an 83 to a 91 just from extra credit. Engaging and hilarious. Truly enjoyed going to class

Absolutely amazing prof. Lots of papers (usually 2 per week, 2-3 pages), but he's a relatively easy grader. In my experience as long as you submit it, you get an A. Final was a 15 page paper that draws on the papers throughout the semester, so it's definitely easier to make sure you're staying on track with those due dates.
