Dr. Murphy really cares abut all of his students. He knew my name because he took the time and effort to look it up after I went to his office hours. Chem 107 can get really hard, so Dr. Murphy will frequently extend his office hours to help me and will meet with students one on one. He can explain the material well and is very smart.

Chemistry is going to be hard and have the same guidelines no matter what professor you have, but Murphy is the best explanation wise. He is so enthusiastic and really cares about his students. he wants you to understand he is the best person to have chemistry with.

The professor is kind and knowledgeable. The course is fast-paced and challenging, requiring a lot of effort. Please make sure to stay on top of this class, or you WILL be behind. There are many opportunities to earn credit through ALEKS homework, so don't wait until the last minute. Weekly group work and iClicker questions are also a huge part.

This professor is competing with you. Best out of all of the chem professors, definitely not good though. Make sure to read the textbook.

Honestly, this is a very fast-paced course, so you always have to be on top of it. There are tests every 2 weeks and group work every other week you don't have a test. He always answers questions and there are so many sources you could get help from. Extra credit is very rare. The lowest learning assessment and weekly challenge get dropped.

Murphy is the goat of gen chem. He does lectures at a good pace and always gives a good response to questions. Lectures are very engaging, and as long as you pay attention and ask questions, you will be guaranteed an A. Tests can be hard, but are fair, and some studying outside of class will greatly help. Don't save Aleks until the last minute.

Best chemistry professor at Binghamton. Had him for 104 in the spring and am currently taking 105 with him now. My only issue is how bad I am at the course itself

Dr. Murphy is enthusiastic and very helpful. The exams are not crazy difficult but the ALEKS and discussions for this class SUCK. If you can do well on the ALEKS + discussions you can do well on the tests.

very open to questions and seems to care about the understanding of students. however, just in general, the slides used are really bad. the discussion quizzes SUCK and so does ALEKS but the actual exams are ok. you have to really pay attention and know EVERYTHING & extra though because they love asking about random, seemingly small topics

Don't get me wrong, chem 104 is HARD. I hated chem in highschool and probably always will as a subject, but Dr. Murphy is the best. If I learned one thing it's: GO TO HIS TA OFFICE HOURS, be annoying, ask those questions, it WILL pay off. Being able to talk with him directly helped me tremendously. He's by far the best out of all the chem profs.

He is a great teacher and will take the time to explain stuff to you. If you put in the effort you'll do great. Sometimes I feel like the level of difficulty of things from class doesn't match the assessments, and it feels like a more difficult professor made them. Overall utilize chemflix and office hours, and start the aleks days in adavance!

Lectures went quickly, so be prepared to rewrite notes or find other resources for practice. Dr. Murphy was really helpful during lecture and answered many questions from students. Definitely use Chemflix, the professor help hours, and past exam and quizzes to review. Honestly can be a lot but if you work hard an A is basically guaranteed.

All he did was read the slides but attendance is mandatory which sucks. He often got questions wrong in class the day before tests so we never really knew how to solve those questions. Worked my butt off and couldn't even get an A. Take turnpenny instead

Dr. Murphy is the goat of Chem104--very few iClickers and lectures were always engaging. Go to office hours! They can be very helpful. While the quizzes can be challenging, there are many other things that can help boost your grades. As long as you stay on top of ALEKS and iClickers, you can do pretty poorly on the exams while still getting an A.

Quizzes are hard but the ALEKS and iClicker will save your grade. The tests are not that hard but unfortunately multiple choice so if you're prone to making silly mistakes your grade will not be great. Study a lot! There's lots of content. Final is not hard but it is multiple choice. Check your answers thoroughly! Lectures are great and important.
