Murphy is passionate about teaching students. He has their best interest at heart. That doesn't mean he is easy. He seems tough on the outside, but is actually a really compassionate person. If you want to learn and care about the class, he will help you suceed. Read the book and take good notes from lectures to succeed.

What can I say about Mr. Murphy other than he is a tough teacher who is very strict but if you go along with his way of doing things then you will be in for a great class. He is a hilarious teacher who does a really great job of comparing historical events to the average person's life. If you do what he asks then expect to have a great experience.

YOU WONT GET AN 'A' DONT EVEN TRY. If you are trying to keep your gpa up dont take him. If you are looking for an easy class, dont take this class.

I got an A in the class. Here is how you do it. Show up on time, pay attention the entire time, and take really good notes. Don't just write down what he puts on the board. Read the chapters he assigns but most of the test comes from lecture. Use the study guides to write outlines for the essays and meet with him. That is how you get an A.

Literally, if you decide to skip his class you won't pass. I highly recommend showing up every day and ON TIME! He is super picky about the time. Pay attention to the lectures and be sure to read the book. Make outlines before the test and meet with him or a history tutor to get feedback. If you do these from the first test and on you'll be good.

Professor Murphy is an excellent professor. I only had him for two weeks after my original professor passed away due to cancer, but I learned more from him in those two weeks than in the 10 weeks prior. He would be a very difficult professor in a normal situation, but he makes sure that you learn the information. Plus, he is usually very energetic!

He is a nice dude and is willing to work with you.

He rarely used the books for History 121, but it is good to have them just in case. He doesn't expect you to answer questions in class either.
