kinda boring, tests are HARD, but he makes decent jokes.
One of Boro's best profs. Interesting material, easy tests if you do the work
INCREDIBLY BORING, but you learn a lot.
You can learn a lot from him, but he tests hard.
very intelligent, but unfortunately has a tendency to make people feel stupid at times. I asked a question once, trying to further my knowledge, and he kind of made me regret asking it.
There are some interesting and boring points to this class, but nachman has the coolest sense of humor.
You'll learn a lot but get some sleep before the class. tests are hard if you don't know your stuff, expect essays.
easiest tests, very helpful, and a great dry sense of humor. Did very well in his class
interesting class
Good God i hate this man. he is BORING, he makes you feel like an ass if you ask a question twice, he is often not prepared for class, or tests. The book he uses is interesting but hes so amasingly dull that you tend to even reject that. AVOID AT ALL COST
Nachman goes quickly when orating notes, doesn't repeat himself voluntarily. Do the readings and STUDY, STUDY, STUDY for the tests. Watch out for the essays. Take him if you dare, but don't expect to still hold and interest in Anth. as a major!
God I wanted to die every day...one more thing about Nissan and my head would have exploded...Stay home in bed you are just going to fall asleep anyways...and the tests forget it!
Pretty weird guy,but his dry sense of humor can be endearing. Easy tests if you actually go to class. Can't figure out the hairdo though.

This guy is funny, but test are very hard if you don't study.

Words cannot describe how excruciating this class was... And no matter how dross his humor was, the class all laughed like nitro-gassed sheep. He was unhelpful and disdainful when it came to clarifying, and often skipped around too much to follow.
Class was very boring and not easy to take exams on either. The professor is a tool and needs to try other pieces of material for his "stand up career" in the front of class.
Knows his stuff and goes out of his way to schedule test reviews and extra credit films. Interesting class.
he does have a dry sense of humor, dont take if you have no interest in the class or youll die of boredom, not real friendly at all, makes you feel dumb when asking a ???? not hateful of him,but hes not the friendliest, not realy recomend
Does not connect material covered in class with the books that are required. He also goes over the same material in every one of his classes. Also, as an Anthropology major there is no prerequisites for any of his classes, so class gets a bit boring.
he talks in the same tone and he is very boring dont even get me started on his corny jokes
very hard class, if you are not interested in anthropology. not friendly guy, but really nice if you talk to him personally. definitely, he needs a nice hair cut.
Nachman is a genius. His tests are hard, but his test curves are generous. Attend the test reviews and read the Nisa book for extra credit. Don't miss class. You'll be fine.
Snore. If you can get past his appearence, you won't escape his monotone Ben-Stein-like voice. He knows a lot about anth, but his style is not student-friendly. Take this class at your own risk.
Very dry teacher. He has a monotone voice. His class is pretty easy as long as you take notes. Tests are all multiple choice and he gives handouts on all of the material.
kinda hard...hard to stay focused same boring tone everyday...but u can get lucky if there are a few fine girls in the class to keep you awake
He has a very dry sense of humor but he tries to make anthropology interesting. Tests require considerable effort. You have to work for an A. After A's, he adjusts the grading scale. Read the extra credit book and take the quiz.
very dry humor, very hard tests, to many books to read, but hes ok, not real friendly, but very smart, dont take if no interest in subject, hard classes
Easy class. THe tests are basically based on the notes and handouts. Kind of boring, he's not funny, but tries to be sometimes
He covers a mass amount of chapters before he asigns a test so it's a lot of information to cram in all at once. Boring as all hell and he wasn't the nicest person in the world. I would never take another class with him.
He reminds me of Ben Stein when he played the teacher on The Wonder Years. Very drab and dry! He is very smart, and tries to make people laugh with dumb jokes. I would not say that he is very friendly, or sociable. I have tried to say hi to him when I see him in the halls and just ignores me.
I fell asleep in this class nearly everyday. There's no homework so your grade is bases soley on test scores, and the tests are pretty difficult. I ended up having to withdraw because I was failing. I recommend you don't take this class.
a really brilliant guy. stays focused on the material. might be boring if you're not interested in anthro. do all the extra credit and read chapters before class. take good notes and you'll be alright.
Excellent Teacher. He could be more friendly though....He knows His material. I will take another one of His classes.
He is very dry person. What he teaches is all in handouts that he gave us. Not helpful at all. However, if we do what we should do properly, then he will be helpful to you.
If difficult is too broad then very difficult won't help much. Very intelligent man but expects more from each student then most inro level prof's do. Wouldn't reconmend for any early classes.
This class requires some effort. He has a very dry sense of humor, but he tries. He does a good job of trying to anthropology somewhat interesting. You have to read the text, take notes, and study them to do well on the tests. After A's, he adjusts the grading scale for the class. (B's and below)
This guy has the world's craziest comb-over......Decent teacher, dry, kinda boring, shows a lot of movies, easy A for me.
His classes are mostly lecture with some movies and a few books to read. Can be dry, but if you study then you'll do fine.
Talk about boring!! All classes are lectures except for the few movies. Gives a chance for extra credit but doesn't give much option about it. Expects a lot out you and doesn't really explain everything clearly. Also on the day of the final he gave us a quiz, then lectured, and then gave the final. Essay with every test too. Books are good though.
Nachman may not be the most socially inclined individual, but he is a walking encyclopaedia!! Very knowledgeable. Unorthodox approach to teaching, using anthro-authors, which was awesome because it was learning vicariously from another's fieldwork! Sometimes boring, so what, take the course. Study material and pay attention - like you should!!
Excellent teacher. A great guy. Very interesting. Shows an appropriate number of movies, lectures are superb, and he is just one of the finest Anthropologists you could ever have teach you at a school like Edinboro. Dr. Nachman got his Ph.D. from Yale! Only Yaley at Edinboro. He is GREAT.
Nachman must be a litch or something. What's his name mean? Night man. What did he study? Black magic. What're his favorite jokes? Jokes about eating missionaries. Scary guy. Boring lecturer. Easy A.
Totally hard to follow I never understand what he's saying and sometimes he's unclear about mostly everything he says.
I was very excited to be taking this class in the begining, but this is too much information packed into one semester. This is not Dr. Nachman's favorite class, and he'll tell you that. He doesn't learn the students names. I would be interested in taking a more in-depth class with him which he would most likely enjoy more than the overview.
This guy is a frigging idiot. He tests on things he never taught, he's a pompous prick, makes you feel like an idiot for asking questions, and is just an all around terrible professor. Taught for the first hour and a half on finals day and left an hour for the final. Miss 6 classes and you automatically fail regardless of your grades. Stear clear.
I had him last semester...he knows his stuff, but if you want an easy class with little work don't take his classes. I am taking him again this semester. He's not a bad guy, just not a professor you can talk to. He is arrogent and will put you down, but I think that is his humor, maybe...very flat lecture...still he knows the material.
I HAD NACHMAN AND LET ME TELL YOU, IT HAD TO BE THE MOST BORING AND FAILURE CLASS I EVER HAD. ALL HE SAYS IS UMMMM....UMMMM.... HE'S LAME. HIS TEST IS REDICUOLOUS AND HIS CLASS IS USUALLY SLEEP WHEN HE LECTURES, LIKE EVERYDAY. BORING GUY, BORING CLASS, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FAIL... PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIM. FROM ONE STUDENT TO ANOTHER... HE'S THE DEVI
He may have no people skills and know how to produce a sleeper of a lecture... HOWEVER, he does know what he is talking about and as long as you take notes, especially when he says to, pay attention during the films, and read the required ethograpies and docutek handouts, there is no reason to get less than an A or B. He gives extra credit, too.
Easy class, just do the reading. A lot of people complain about him being hard, however he gives all the answers of his test during lecture, all you have to do is take notes. Its not anything more then should be expected from a college student. Those who fail his class probably will be career Burger King employees or crack dealers.
Excellent class. I switched majors to Anthropology after his class. Nissan sounds fabulous and I really want to help the Haitians. Nachman is a caring, understanding, friendly person. I cant imagin what life would be like with out him as a professor. Highly recomended!!
Not very helpful. Says "umm" a lot. not very good at connecting with students. Gives pretty outrageous reading assignments. I did good in the class but didnt learn a lot.
He rocks my world. He shows disdain for the intro classes, but who wouldnt if were teaching the same class over & over 2 people who didnt want 2 be there! He knows his stuff. & is very smart. I'd say he's like an old red wine that u have 2 have a taste for. Alot of it is reading, but ur in college, get used 2 reading and doing work, or get out
Dr. Nachman is one of the most intelligent professors on the Edinboro campus. It is a shame he doesn't apply that to his teaching. His class is anything but interesting, and he openly admits he tries to be boring. He has the mentaility that if you don't agree with him, you're wrong. He is a very disrespectful to his students and just doesn't care.
I love Nachy! He knows his stuff! He hates slackers. Who can blame him? You're in college and he expects you to act that way. This is high school. Open a book, go to the library for hours, study. College sets your path for life. And by not taking interest in your classes shows something...
This guy doesn't even try. His class could be good if he put the effort into his teaching; he expects it from his students, so he should do the same.
Awesome class and awesome professor. If you are looking to learn anthropology, Nachman is the one to learn it from. If you're out for an easy grade, forget it. Most of the class is lecture, although he attempts discussions with the books he assigns--even though most are failures because half the class doesn't read the book. Unique sense of humor.
Dr. Nachman is a little on the boring side, but he is a great professor. He really knows his stuff. He assigns a lot of work, anthropology novels, but they are really interesting. Do your readings, take good lecture notes, and take nots on ANY video, slideshow or anything else of the sort shown and you will have no trouble passing.
Very knowledable and interesting. Assigns great books, just be sure to read them carefully. TAKE GOOD NOTES ON LECTURES! Comes off as rude and unresponsive to students, but I don't think that's his intention. I've taken him for 2 classes and will take him again. I wouldn't reccomend him if you dont like to work hard for your grade. Great professor!
Very easy if you take notes during lectures, and then study the notes the night before the test... all tests are multiple choice for anthropology 205 and I barely read the textbook - offers extra credit. great teacher, awkward personality - but funny
I took several anthropology courses from Dr. Nachman, including, intro, cultures of the world, medical anthro, and the course on ritual, magic, and myth. He is one of the best professors I have ever had. He knows his stuff, and while he expects a lot, he is fair and you will come away with a wealth of knowledge. Do the readings and take good notes
Great teacher, fun sense of humor. Teaches his subjects well.
Dr.Nachman is an outstanding educator. His dry sense of humor is lost on many of the idiots that happen upon his classroom. But he expects you to know the info and get it right. Dumb questions will not be answered and non-traditional head noding students should stay out of the front row. His Intro Anth changed the entire direction of my education
This man is more monotone than Ben Stein, and has a BAMF comb-over. Nice guy, reasonble, but I though the class was pretty hard. The book we read, "A Different Mirror" was pretty cool. I really liked learning about Irish culture. Participate in class!! He likes that. and laugh at his jokes, even though they aren't funny at all.
Naughty Nachy
Dr Nachman is the coolest teacher ever. He is so knowledgable about all sorts of cultures...especially Nissan...lol and his class is very interesting. And his humor is dry...but he is so funny-so for all those that said he wasn't are extremely disturbed.
ANTH 364 - Cultures, Illness, and Curing: Very interesting topic, taught well. He talks a little bit like the Ben Stein from the Clear-Eyes commercials, but he inserts jokes sometimes to see if people are actually paying attention. Great professor and I would gladly take him again in the future. :)
Bad jokes, worst comb over ever, scatter minded, talks about Nissan way too much, 4 books assigned per semester, rediculous tests.
Loved this class. Gives students every opportunity to pass his class. Terrific professor. Loved his jokes.
I've taken tow classes by him Culture, Illness, and curing and Myth, Magic, and Ritual. And I enjoyed taking both of them he has the same set up for both classes book and test wise and warns you in advance what you are getting into. It's not a hard class if you do the work and he gives you a chance for 5-8 points of extra credit per test.
I had Nachman this half of the year just to fill a gen ed and had to drop it because i had NO time to do what he was asking of us. YOU MUST READ THE BORING BOOKS! studdy them like your life depended on it or you will surly FAIL!
A pretty alright teacher, and a really easy class, had a B+ and after his attendance policy for however many days you miss class. I got a D yeah makes sense right. I need to be in the class for what reason?
Cultures/Illness/Curing: Despite his sometimes sleep-inducing Ben Stein voice, he likes to slip jokes into his lectures, so pay attention. Corny or not, they helped keep me focused. He has easy tests, if you read the books. Yes, he assigns 3-4 books, but excluding one of them, they were interesting. Safe bet: (# of Pages / Days until test) + 2
Deffinately not one of my favorite teachers. From personal experiences I've had with him, he's not caring at all. He grades his tests in pencil which is rediculous. If you dont take notes on the books you wont do well. He tends to stare off into space and tells really cheezy jokes. He takes attendance every class.
Not the best teacher I've had so far. He's deff boring and tells cheesy jokes. Drags out clss till last second. Alot of reading and attendance is mandatory. Could care less about his students. Expects alot from you and a lot of effort if he feels you arent putting in effort he will let you know. I'm never taking another class from him!
He's not a bad professor, it's just a lot of reading and the tests are all short answer and essays. He tries to joke, but fails miserably with his dry humor. I found that in itself, however, hilarious. Topics are interesting, but he's generally dry.
Not a difficult class and is actually semi interesting. He is not particularly nice(especially if you say dumb things or disrupt)But I learned a lot and actually enjoyed the class. It was pretty easy, TAKE NOTES in class, everything he covers and you'll do fine otherwise you'll fail. At least skim the reading because he puts of people on the spot
The guy is a good teacher but he expects a lot from you. When i took him I had to buy 2 or 3 books and he had the class read more then half of each. He also really likes in-class discussions and gets pissy when the answer is wrong/if no one talks. He does try to tell really cheesey jokes. The tests were generally easy just pay attention and read.
not a great professor. the class has a lot of great material, but his bland monotone approach to a multicultural america will have you nodding off. not to mention the text. it's very long, draining, and bland. the tests are long, and seem irrelevant based on given text and lectures. i dropped him before it was too late. no opps for extra credit.
Drags the lesson until the very last second of class every day. Not consistent: switched up the way he teaches half way through the semester. Tests have irrelevant questions on them. Boring to listen to, doesn't try to make the class interesting. The grades were only 4 tests with only 1 extra credit opportunity. I wouldn't suggest taking him.
I have taken every class offered by Dr. Nachman. His lecturing is straightforward and informative, with amusing dry humour throughout. Lots of notes to take, and usually 3-4 smaller books per class. Tests are easy enough; short answer with some identification/definitions and essays. Quizzes on every book, separate from but counted towards tests. Somewhat impersonal, but he gets you to think.
He is a nice guy with a boring teaching style. He stands at the podium and lectures in a monotone voice. The topic could be really interesting but I find myself bored most of class. If you read the 2 or 3 books that he assigns then you will do fine. I'll probably take another one of his classes for the easy grade.
to be fair, the class was difficult, kinda condescending. good sense of humor. books ranged from really good to worse book ever. test you to the most minor detail. very fair grader on the other hand
Class is boring and will keep you as long as he can. Arrives late often. Tests are very difficult with detailed questions. Extra credit was given generously. I recommend talking this class only if you NEED it.
VERY BORING! Knows his stuffs, but is one of the few professors who constantly puts me to sleep. 8 times out of 10 he'll be late and 9 times out of 10 he'll keep you after the class. Test are hard and off point, including the essay portion. Very generous with extra credit though.
Heavy on reading and you can't hope to pass if you don't read. Comes late every day and keeps you after every day without fail. Extremely boring to listen to, but knowledgable of his subjects. Shows videos a lot, at other times lectures are note-heavy. Gives out extra credit like it's candy.
Had him for 3 classes. Anthro was great, other two were ok. A lot of reading. very strict on attendance. very knowledgeable about the topics he teaches. a cute old man
A lot of reading. Like a ton. Will deduct points for attendance. Kind of mean sometimes. Class is on his time he shows up late every day and holds you late every day. Wouldnt take again. Very boring lectures.
He has an extensive knowledge of anthropology. I would recommend his class if you are actually interested in the topic. He has been an expert in this field since the 1960's. The lectures are a bit dry, but lots of good info. And he does not like disruptions during class. Turn off the freakin' phone or the lecture will never continue.
Great dry humor. Lots of reading.
He's a great professor, whose field study presentation are incredibly detailed and very interesting. Sarcastic and dry humor make him all the more entertaining
