VERY enthusiastic guy with lots of energy which makes his class fun! Funny guy too. No busy-work hw, mainly essays. Do well on the essays and you should be fine. Doesn't teach a whole lot of by-the-books english stuff and talks a lot, but it's perfect for the average student.

Mr. P rocks! He is one of the best instructors on campus. His class is interesting and will improve your ciritcal thinking skills in a fun and relaxed inviroment. Who thought ENG100 could be fun?!

For those who NEED to take this class, there are definitely worse ways to go. "MR PASSAL" - as he insists on being called (Dont' call him Steven) - clearly loves what he is doing. He is enthusiastic about learning himself and genuinely seems to want to impart this upon his students. The work is dead easy for any Native speaker of English.

Mr.Passel is defintly worth taking, just be ready to talk about sex, religon, and anything else thats going to come-up. The work is easy, and afterwards you won't need to take speech.

Mr.P is a great teacher that is here for the right reasons. His assignments are interestting and fun. Along with a great personality he is willing to help his students at all time and is flexible for personal schedules. I would take him again!!

He made me more aware of whats going on in the world.As his english 302 student, he gave me the freedom to think critically and more efficiently on different issues, and he helped me understand how to create an effective thesis.My writing has also greatly improved.I can argue both sides of most issues.Beware! class can get rated R, for adults only.

What can I say about Mr. P. He is seriously one of the coolest English teachers at City College. It actually makes class fun and interesting. He has a grat sense of humor and will always help you out if you need it. If you were taking ENGWR 300 I would advise you to take him. He is an excellent teacher.

Passal is fantastic. I took his class in the summer, and our textbook was the Sac Bee. His class is really straightforward and we often wrote on current topics. This class was fun, interesting, controversial, challenging, educational, and did I mention fun! I took this class on my Friday for 3 hours and never dreaded coming to class and was never looking at the clock out of boredom. Highly recommended!

If you want an entertaining class...take this one. It wasn't what I expected (more like a current events class) and there is a debate. However my Fridays were usually spent laughing, sometimes at him, sometimes with him. If you want a fun class, take Mr. P.

Mr. P is an amazing! We use the newspaper instead of a textbook. He tries to help cut costs for students and not only that its info we need to know as adults!!!! My writing has improved tremendously thanks to him. He is constantly moving around the classroom and cusses sometimes. Put it this way, he keeps it real!! Take him if you can!!!!

This class is easy. Honestly this was my second time in taking engwr 59, but my first professor was so confusing. Passal keeps is simple and easy. He is extremely helpful and if there is something wrong, he will help you pass the course. It is hard to fail, if you do fail, then start doing more work; you have to give an effort.

Straight up easiest english teacher in SCC. I took him for 100 and 300! I'll definitely take him this summer for 302. There are no textbooks but you do need to get the SacBee everyday for class for your quizes. In the class, you usually get like 2-3 papers and 1 debate and thats it! Easy! Oh by the way, be aware this is a R-rated Class!

Passal starts out as a funny man and ends up being funny throughout the semester. He uses newspaper, so subscribe for it. There's a debate in the end usually, but it's also easy.

Mr. P is a good teacher. Pretty easy as long as you get your essays done and do your quizzes. There is a quiz every day on Section A of the newspaper and the answers are usually in the title/ first few paragraphs of Section A. He is a random, funny, easy going teacher who can be harsh at times, but in a funny way.

Great professor. Come to class and try and you'll get an A. He makes learning EASY and FUN. I looked forward to his class every T/TH. He is FUNNY/Vulgar/Entertaining/passionate. He has had one of the most interesting lives. Not a difficult course but he teaches you a lot about life and english.

Very good teacher, I had no interest in english before this class and Passal completely change my thoughts on writing. Even though his teaching style feels simplistic, it actually taught me more about writing in its practical sense. Recommended for an easy and great experience!

He is one of the best professor i had during my English course.I have many grammar problems, but his grading is depended on your writing structure and style more. Trust me, taking his classes will guarantee you will laugh more than complaining. But, be warned his class is rated 18+ mature language.

My favorite English teacher ever. He's clear with his instructions and wants you to pass. Just put in the effort. Very little homework, just weekly quizzes on the WSJ newspaper (around 15$ for the whole semester). Always extra credit on it too. We had three essays (argument, extended definition, business letter). They should at least be three pages

At first, I was skeptical of Passal as he can be pretty vulgar and sometimes offensive. I realized that he is a great English professor though! He can be pretty conservative in his views but he encourages people to look at both points of views. There is a debate and 3 papers. Easy A if you do the work and follow his guidelines for writing.

Dreaded taking an English class since the day I moved to USA. Great professor whom wants you to master the English language. Throughout the semester there is one weekly quiz on the WSJ, one debate and 3 papers (at least three pages long). Took 101, 300 and 302; finished with an A. Do all work, piece of cake! Mr. Passal is the best of the best professor in SCC. He is very clear in what he says and you will never fall asleep in his class because his lectures are just wonderful. He prepares the students to read current events & newspapers like WSJ. Participation is required, just follow his own writing rules which you will get it in the beginning.

Professor Passal is a great professor, I took him for English writing 101 and it was my 3rd time taking that class. Without enrolling into his class, I honestly don't know if I would get through with my 101 class, but I did, all because of a great professor! I also took him for 300 also and pass. I am not the biggest fan of English and writing in general. However, Mr.P made English fun and helped me improve my writing. He gives weekly quizzes on the newspaper just study for them because they are a good portion of your grade. 3 papers and 1 group presentation. Shoutout to the contact sport con side, it was fun working with yall!

Mr.P is the best professor i've ever taken for ANY subject. I wish he taught all of my classes. He is respectable and down to earth. His assignments are real-world, unlike other professors I've taken. It's not an "easy" A though, you actually have to do work, but the work is straight forward and there are no "tricks." The only way you could fail this class was if you didn't show up or do the work. He is an exceptional professor and cares about a student's progress. He's an AMAZING professor! I took him for Engwr300 and it was my fav class. He is super funny and i always looked forward to his class. I'm an average student in English but I followed his writing style and his writing rules and got an A. He really cares about his students. Take this class you will not regret it I promise!

Textbook not required. He gives quizzes on newspaper articles everyday, so attendance is mandatory. Only three essays assigned the whole semester. He provides students with plenty of time to complete assignments. No in class essays. The final is a debate. Mr. P is really understanding as long as you talk to him. He has a great sense of humor.

Mr. P's is really funny and engaging. Laughed a lot! There were 3 essays: a research paper, a definition paper and a business letter paper. The wall street journal is the textbook. quizzes are on randomly chosen articles almost every class. And there is an end of the semester debate done in groups. Loved this class. Mr. P is a very upfront teacher. If you do not like curse words or are uncomfortable with your teacher calling you out in front of class, then do not take this course. Did not use book that was assigned, instead used the Sac Bee for reading material and quizzes. Semester is 3 papers ( last was 2 small papersso 5? ) and final was a Pro/Con debate.

By far, one of the best Professors you will take in college. He is a prime example of the kind teachers who will change your life in a positive aspect. Going into this class I had no idea of what to expect. Sets out a clear agenda on what is expected. Lots of easy extra credit. I love Mr. Passal's class! I had a great experience in his ENGWR 300 class in Spring 2020 and he was an excellent professor. He gives clear exceptions on the first day of class. If you participate in class, do the work and the reading and you'll get a good grade. I'd take another class in a heartbeat.

Really is a great professor. He is very understand and wants everyone to pass. Every quiz have a couple questions that are extra credit. He gives amazing lectures and very clear instructions. If needed he is always willing to help you out. If you put in the effort then you will pass with flying colors.

What an awesome professor! I took his 8 wk course this Spring semester. He requires an cheap subscription to the New York Times website to access articles. Gives extra credit for good replies. He would reply to emails w/in the hour. He replied to my question with 2 emails & an email the next day w/o me replying yet. He cares about student success.

Clear grading rubric and gives good review on coursework. Funny lectures and he will go over what he wants to see you write. Pretty straightforward class not too much homework or writing assignments. He's great.
