I loved this class. Pena is a great professor. His lectures are interesting, and his jokes are bad, but he knows it, so that makes it okay. He's good at playing Devils Advocate. He also lets you ask any questions you want about him on the last day.

Where to begin...lets see, he's funny ill give him that. A bit arrogant, but most philosophy proff's are. Very helpful after class, lectures are not very effient to what will be on the test. He side tracks very often. Does give away many A's, maybe 1-3 people in the class will get an A. Study good for his Tests and you will be fine.

His class is less about the material and more about the discussion. If you can't show up everyday or get involved in the discussion you may not have much fun, but as long as you take decent notes you will do fine. Also, may not be best for the religiously biased, he questions a lot of things people may not be comfortable with.

Excellent teacher, expects people to think AND participate. Not a class for closed minded ideologues. This teacher will make you question your own beliefs if you're not sure what you believe in. Not for the faint of mind.

Pena is not a bad teacher at all. In fact I looked forward to going to his class in the mornings. I don't understand why people say he is boring, I thought that the lectures were very interesting. I don't recomend taking Pena if you are a real religious person...he tends to try to get convorsations going buy questioning your religious beliefs.

If you are a lazy student, then Pena is not the teacher for you. I took notes and studied the night before tests and I got an A in his class. College is not high school, you actually have to study-especially in this class. Pena gets bad ratings because students are too lazy to put forth any effort. After the first test, there is no textbook use at all. To get the material, you MUST GO TO CLASS!! This is where I made the mistake. If I had gone to class every day, I would have made an A, but because I liked to sleep in, I got a B. I probably could have still gotten an A in the class if I had written the extra credit paper.

dude, this guy is pretty much a badass. if you like to hold arguments about anything, take this class. a lot of people tend to think that this class is hard, but i got a "B" and didnt even struggle to much. every class session is a group discussion. good good good stuff. this class will open your mind to much new ideas and thats never a bad thing.

Professor Pena is a very good teacher and is very helpful. You do have to write a 4 page paper for his class but he will give you a lot of help with it.

Professor Pena is by far my favorite professor I have had at san jacinto college. He makes class fun and interesting and invites students to give their input on certain topics from a philisiophical view of course. I really enjoyed Intro to Phil. with him. The lectures were very interesting and his sense of humor makes it even more enjoyable. There were only 3 tests, the final, and 1 essay. The tests were sort of hard but you only need to study your notes a little bit to get at least a B on them. He also curves a lot of the grades.

Mr. Pena is an excellent teacher, he really enjoys talking about philosophy which makes the class interesting and he's not bad to look at... He likes having classroom discussions, so speak up in class. It is important to study for the tests and he is a little tough in grading the paper, so put a lot of effort into it and you'll pass.

All you have to do in this class is take tentative notes and study them right bofore the blue book tests. He rarely assigns any homework, he's funny, and knows what he is talking about to an exceptional extent. total socialist tho, lol.

This guy is fun to sit and debate with but as a class this is the worst class I have he is all over the place with his lectures and has no real syllabus other than listen and take notes. When he makes notes on board uses acronyms and is hard to translate into notes. moves fast but will help you in any way he can. easily sidetracked if you know how.

This class is easy to keep up with if you record the lectures. Cell phones have the amazing ability to voice record! Yes, you have to show up to class and it's not structured in any way, but we're all adults and very capable of learning without the teacher holding our hands. I had a blast. The class opened my mind and I laughed a lot.

Loved this class. He got me interested in philosophy and likes to make you think. If you are uncomfortable with your views being challenged, either don't say anything in class or just don't take him. As long as you pay attention in lecture you will learn and laugh a lot. Logic test is the toughest one, make sure to rent his book.

Peña's class was amazing. He is objective, honest, and such an intellectual. His lectures are great and encourage/are fueled by participation. Overall, Peña is a great guy, very helpful/insightful when asked, and is incredibly hot. Favorite professor at San Jac.

Debate is encouraged and he is open for different points of views but in order to win you need to have a valid arguments. You are expected to thoroughly understand the topics discussed during lectures, because all tests were essays in which you explain what you think about the given topics, and why you think such way. Logic is also very important.

Hands down the best class I've ever had. He encourages participation. I disagreed with him about everything, yet he was extremely open to my views and even helped make my points. He's crazy intelligent and I want to take another class from him. If you're not into serious deep thinking it's not the class for you. Overall EXCELLENT !

Dr. Pena conducts his class entirely through lectures followed by quizzes and tests over those lectures. If you can take good notes over the lectures and show up every day it won't be difficult to pass. In addition to that, Dr Pena's lectures are both interesting and entertaining, and there's often times class discussion over the material. Take it.

Mr. Pena's class is not for those who need visuals to learn. He writes little on board, and there's not any visual representation of his lectures. But, he is very thorough in what he talks about. This was my 2nd semester taking Dr. Pena's class. Loved every minute of it, his lectures are very interesting and I have learned a lot from him these last two terms (which is what really matters). I was very skeptical of the class, and I did terrible on the first test,but he drops the lost quiz and test grade. He is very understanding and very intelligent but if youre not good at listening and taking notes do not recommend.

I took him online on a schedule. He talks a lot, but hes passionate. I had a C the whole time in the class but at the end he drops 2 grades which bumped me up to an A!! There isnt any work, just listen to his lectures, take 2 quizzes every unit, and then the test. LISTEN during lectures to do good on the quizzes which are timed.

I definitely would recommend this professor. I hate reading a book and taking test off of what I just read and he is not like that. He has videos of his lectures that we can listen too, rewind if needed and pause. Be sure to take notes and even write down the examples he gives. He drops your 2 lowest grades so don't worry if you fail a quiz or two.

Great and Amazing professor his whole online class was watching his lecture videos and taking notes, no homework or assignments just quizzes and tests on his lectures so take good notes. He does only lectures so if you need power points then I wouldn't advise you to take him. Hilarious lectures he really keeps them interesting.

Dr. Peña is very passionate about what he does and is incredibly knowledgeable about everything he teaches. He always encourages participation and respectful debates in his discussions. You HAVE to show up and pay attention or you wont pass. His quiz/exam questions are derived primarily from discussions. Take diligent notes and study hard!

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME !!!! This is not a professor for you if you're not into ideas....he expects people to be intelligent and he is awesomely intelligent. He likes to have a conversation and that's not for everybody.. he weaves science into everything he talks about and I never thought philosophy would be fun until I took a class with him.. LOVED it!

He was an amazing professor! He was very helpful when I had trouble with the lectures or even if I wanted to discuss a topic from the lectures. I would 100% take this course again and any other course he teaches. Taking notes is key to being successful because if you study them, you will ace the quizzes and tests. There's an essay but it's easy.
