He follows the syllabus EXACTLY so thiers no suprises-as far as grading/reading material goes. One of the best professors I've had, he is very knowledgeable about what he is teaching and it comes across in class.
If you like history, the class is interesting. He gives a lot of work though. But on the other hand everything is take-home so you have some time to think about it.
Great professor.
Fair, tough and a really nice guy. He's a breath of fresh air and ballsy enough to use "The Black Book of Communism" in his lectures. BRAVO!
This is a GREAT Professor, yes he does give work but its all take home and he isvery helpful. He is very knowledgable and teaches without indoctrinating students with his biases as do many other professors. For those who love history you gotta take Remy
It was a very insteresting class. But the grading is unfair. I knew more about European history after WW2 more than anybody else in the class, but received a low score because did not like to participate in stupid class discussions.
Prof. Remy is borring like hell and arrogant. He sees anti-semitism everywhere, so his view of history is very simple. Arrogant.
One of the best professors I ever had. Gives a lot of work but he is one of the smartest people I have ever met. He is very passionate about what he is teaching... Oh and he isn't bad to look at either. :)
this was an awesome class. i learned so much from prof remy and id recommend anyone who truly enjoys history to take one of his courses
Professor Remy is the best teacher I ever had. His class isn't easy but he's very interesting and loves what he teaches. You get 6 analysis papers, which he grades only 5, and 2 midterm essay questions and 4 final essay questions. I had him twice and both times it was the same thing.
Prof. Remy is the best professor I've ever had. He is very passionate about what he is doing. He is extremely organized in his work, and his grading system is fair, although his papers are sometimes difficult. I must also add that he is very nice, helpful, and handsome as well.

He is a handsome guy.
If you are fine with being taught by a stone-faced robot, take him.
Nice guy, was an interesting class. Gives a lot of work but not impossible to complete. I recommend him.
very knowledgable, organized and helpful. No in class exams, lots of papers, lots of reading. Uses power point. overall - great class, really improves your writing! just wish there was more open discussion.
excellent and challenging. tons of reading. tough papers.
He is the rare professor whose class is almost never boring. Prof. Remy is an excellent lecturer and is obviously very knowledgable about his field. Unfortunatly, his class is very HARD and he is an extremely TOUGH GRADER. There are too many readings and assignments. Too writing intesive. Do all your analysis papers or you WILL get a bad grade.
I meant to give these points for the last review but I accidentally inverted them. Sorry.
Boring and with an attitude.
I took him for Nazi Germany and Europe 1880-1945. It's clear that Prof. Remy is extremely knowledgeable. He's also very clear. His classes require a lot of reading and work, but he's a very fair grader (IMO one may be able to go as far as easy) and you don't need to read everything to do well (I didn't). Highly reccomended for history fans.
One of the best professors ever. Extremely intelligent and knows a ton about his subject. His teaching is clear and INTERESTING and he encourages questions and participation. Reading before each class is mandatory since he gives pop quizzes but it doesnt take so long. No homework, just a paper for the midterm and final.
LOTS & lOTS OF WORK. DON'T RECOMMEND IF U HAVE A HEAVY CASELOAD BECAUSE HIS CLASS IS DEMANDING AND READINGS ARE INTENSE, BUT U WILL LEARN. OVERALL, HE IS NICE, KNOWS HIS INFORMATION AND WILL GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE ESSAYS. JUST BE PREPARED TO WORK......PS. HE IS SEXY TOO.

VERY VERY NICE!!!!!!
Remy's a nice guy. He's a great teacher and very passionate. Beware though, his class is reading and writing intensive. Lots to read for each class. Expect pop quizzes. No tests; 2 midterm papers, and 4 final papers. Class participation is a must to get an A.
Hard class, despite the fact that Remy is not a terribly hard grader. There were many papers and to do them you had to the readings, which were plentiful (over 2,000 pages in total). Lectures were at times fascinating and at times boring. Participation a must. Strongly reccomended, but only for serious history students.
He's great. He gives 5 pop quizzes, which is a little annoying, but at the same time he lets you use notes. So it's not that bad. Overall he's great. To be honest I regret buying the book because he basically goes over everything in the book so it was a waste. Except when it comes down to righting papers. so use your discretion! In all i liked him
Prof Remy is one of the better professors in Brooklyn. I am not a history major, but i took his class as an elective last semester and I am taking him again this semester. I highly recommend him, do your work and you will pass without a problem
Very good Prof with not a lot of work. Do not waste money on buying the book because you will not need it. Give 6 quizes from the handouts ( which you must read) and drops the lowest grade, and you can use notes. No midterm and no final, a small paper. Will lower your grade for class participation.
Good professor, interesting lectures. The class is very informative. The grade is made up of 5 (of 6, one doesn't count) take home essays (one-page) and the final/midterm. Heavy reading involved (textbook, documents and individual books), only one of the books was boring. Recommended.
Professor Remy is a great professor. If you are interested in German History he is an extremely knowledgeble professor. He assigns many articles, about 3 books, and a textbook. You need to site them as references on the midterm and final. Great professor, smart, clear, interesting, and he's a good looker. Do the work and you'll be fine.
Remy is clear, precise, and interesting. The reading material is extremeley captivating. If you do the reading and have an interest in the history--you will want to participate and do the the writing assignments. I enjoyed his both classes that I took with him. Don't be late and you must attend his class,if not it will have an impact on your grade.
I don't like the guy. He may be smart but he will 100% size you up quickly if he FEELS you are not doing your work. You certainly need to demonstrate that you've done the readings by participating. Participation weighs HEAVILY on the final grade. Not for shy people. Definitely not recommended unless you like to talk alot.
I did not learn much in his course that I could use to develop ideas/research topics in history. My success in the course was from seeking clarification from other professors in history. The material lacked diversity in ethnicity and gender which made the course rather bland. Remy also came across cold and indifferent at times.
I don't know why, but i think he's adorable in that really dorky "I LOVE HISTORY" kind of way. He gets really excited about teaching and it's cute. Hard grader though, you need to be prepared constantly!. Sick, Sick, Sick tattoo on his right arm... i know it has nothing to do with the class... don't take him unless you're a brown noser or talk alot
Remy is Remy. Yes, plenty of work, yes he's hard to get an A. But only lazy and incompitent student can write bad things about him. He's the best prof in dept! FACT! His readings are the most interesting readings in all history classes. So I'd say - TAKE REMY IF YOU WANT TO LEARN SOMETHING! He's not giving you grade, he gives you KNOWLEDGE!
Remy is great professor. You can succeed in his class if you come every day. If you do, you miss pop quizzes. But, the best way is if you ask for help. He's not cruel as some students think. He works with you on your time if you want to understand to work. I'm not interested in European History, but it broaden my interests. Speaking of interests
GREAT PROF. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS EVERY DAY CAUSE U DON'T KNOW WHEN HE WILL GIVE A QUIZ, BUT IS OPEN BOOK. EASY............U WILL LEARN A LOT IN CLASS..I WOULD LOVE TO TAKE HIM AGAIN SO I CAN GET AN A WHICH I DIDN'T GET.
Great Professor. Lectures are interesting never boring. Lots of work, strict on grading but is by far my favorite Professor. And a bonus- He's a very good looking man.
He gives a lot of work but it keeps you focused and you learn a lot. His essays and quizzes are very fair, and his lectures are interesting. He knows what he's talking about and is always on point. Actually teaches History and Facts, instead of propogating personal opinions and **** like some professors do.
He is such a wonderful professor. Yes, there was a lot of work for the class but all the assigned readings were really interesting, as were the class discussions. My favorite professor at BC.
Looks like professor Remy is posting all complements by himself. Do not believe to what you read. He is very hard, one of the hardest prof in Brooklyn college. He is a good looking, but is that what you go to the class for? If yes, so go ahead and take him, but do not forget he is very bad grader. So it is your choice: GPA or good looking prof.
Girls, can you stop with Remy's look. What is really important that he is super smart and very helpful. I got an A- and - was my fault. So, last fall 40 % was quizzes, 40 % final-4essays, and 20% midterm- 2 essays. For essays-he explained everything that I asked, checked my first drafts, and gave me good comments, so I did great. His quizzes were n
He is a great professor. Had him for Hist10w. He gives lots of readings which are interesting. Always there to help you. Easy assignments. 2 page papers once a week. You can learn from him.
Great if you love history and even if you dont you will after his class. Its a great time to go to his class where the lecture is easy to follow and the discussions he starts are often enjoyable. Highly recommended. Type of prof you take his class just because he teaches it
Lots of reading which is interesting for those into history. Generally great guy and interesting class. Just lots of reading. Quizzes are 40%, final (take home) is 40% with 4 essays and midterm(take home) is 20%.
If you say something wrong, he will call you out in front of everybody. Too many readings are given and way too dense. He's sexy as hell but I would never take a class taught by him ever again.
A very funny guy, he gave no tests, quizzes, I highly recommend taking his Germany class the man knows everything and even speaks German.
Remy is super smart. He does an excellent job of drawing the material out of his class and at the same time let's his class spin their intellectual wheels. Excellent Professor with a deep knowledge of his subject. Wish I could take him again.
Horrendous grader. Makes you submit papers while the other work that you had handed in prior goes ungraded for over a week. No way to gauge your progress in the course. Gives 4 days for the assignment and takes 10+ days to grade and give back, well after you have submitted the next assignment. Take at your own risk.
Students, you know it's bad when a Graduate Student posts a negative response about how they had to seek clarification from other History professors in order to succeed in the course. Harsh grader who limits the student's capabilities by consistently handing back graded work in an untimely fashion.
This guy is so boring and arrogant. If you have an opinion other than his you are wrong. Gives four days to write responses and doesn't grade them for over a week so you have no idea how your doing. His guidelines for grading are unclear. NOt enough time for a paper especially if you have a job. Would never take again.
Summer session does not seem to be Remy's forte........
Took a summer session with him and realized it was a huge mistake. Hasn't handed back a graded response in 13 days when he gives 4 days to write the response. Arrogant, indifferent, and largely unavailable during office hours. Would never recommend or take again. One of the worst professors in BC.
Hist7380X Eu Snce 1945. class= GR8. NOT EASY! paper a week,2 pages single spaced. Does not get papers back quickly, nor respond to emails all the time. Feedback on papers light and unclear. Participation is a must, every class, gives grade just on that. essay questions broad and confusing.Reading heavy.Gd movies, gd readings, gd lectures.
Prof Remy is extremely knowledgable in his field. He's extremely helpful, if you need the help he will be there to provide it. If you're looking for an easy A this is not the professor for u! Expect to read and write a lot! It was hard, but all in all I don't regret taking the course
He answered every question his students ask to him; expect a lot of reading (which he give out quizzes, so you must show up, on time, every class day) & writing (2 midterm essays & 4 final essays); his lectures are good; take advantage of his office hours: he will give you advice about the papers because a big part of the final grade is the essays.
His lectures are good but boring; his midterm exam consists of two essay questions and his final exam consists of four essay questions on the reading material that was covered in class. Expect to do unannounced quizzes on the reading materials you've read. His courses are reading intensive and writing intensive. Take advantage of his office hours.
Excellent professor with a passion for the material & a huge depth of knowledge. Readings are posted online, but some paper back books are required reading. It is reading intensive, because this is college. Essays were challenging, but reasonable time was given for completion. He gives occasional 5 question quizzes. Do the reading and you pass. Hot
I took this graduate class in the summer. "Easy" is a weasel word. If you want to learn, it's "easy." I'm not even sure what that means in this context. Prof Remy is an excellent and extremely knowledgeable professor who is very approachable. He takes time grading papers but so what? You should know exactly how you're doing. Highly recommend him.
My 2nd class with Prof. Remy. The design of this course was excellent and leaves a lasting impression. We read one book per week with various online articles for background. Serious book discussion was critical to grading. Each book required a thoughtful response paper. Remy is accessible and fully engages student. Excellent professor, A+
Prof Remy is very professional and very helpful. It is not an easy A, but take it from experience an A is definitely feasible! I came into this class thinking that I had to ace every quiz to get an A but clearly the quizzes were not the determining factor. Just READ, be on top of things and stay organized!
Be prepared for TONS of reading (40-80 pages per night). He assigns pop quizzes so he knows you are keeping up. Otherwise, he's pretty cool. Definitely knows a lot about his subject & seems enthusiastic about it. Midterm & final are take-home.
Professor Remy is one of the best I've had. He is very knowledgeable in the material and teaches with clarity and enthusiasm. There is a lot of reading to do for the class but you'll come out having learned a lot. Trust.
There are a lot of readings and quizzes are assigned at random; typically at least one per week. The grading did not go 100% to what was defined on the syllabus; quizzes 40%, midterm (a take home essay) 20% and final (two take home essays). I did okay on the quizzes and very well on my essays and received a good grade.
I took this class over 2 yrs ago. At the time, I was too frustrated and exhausted to realize what I was getting. Turns out I learned a hell of a lot more than I thought. You walk away from this class with knowledge and intellectual power. This class is worth taking! P.S. I was a Graduate Student.
He is simply amazing! His lectures are so interesting and deep, that sometimes i wonder whether i should major in history. Get ready to read, he has a lot of quizzes, unannounced. If you do the reading, you will do great. I highly recommend him!
He is awesome! If you need help, ask for it and he will definitely work with you. I have him for two classes this semester & am taking him again next semester. Be prepared for pop quizzes (typically one per week) just do the readings and you will do well!!! Love him!!!
I have mixed feelings about Remy, on one hand he's really sweet and knows a lot but he would off so much in class that my notes were all over the place. He's clear as to what he wants and I think if there weren't 120 students in the class I would love it a lot more. Tough grader but great guy.
He is a very smart guy he knows a lot and his lectures are interesting. I liked the class but he is a tough grader. My first paper I got a c+ and I realized I would have to work a lot harder to get a good grade. He also doesnt give good feedback and he took really long to give us feedback on our midterms. He is helpful, he reads rough drafts and
His class is interesting but you may fall asleep once in a while. He basically gives a quiz every couple of classes, a midterm, and a final. The exams are a bit tough so you must study, not the night before the exam, doesn't work. There is a lot of reading but overall, a smart professor that I recommend.
This is one of the best professors I have very had in my entire college career. At first he scared me and I was overwhelmed at the amount of books we had to read, but I tried as hard as I could to keep up and ended up doing way better than I thought. I haven't received my grade yet, but it is going to be either an a or b for sure.
After reading the reviews, I was very reluctant to take this class. The lectures are really important and he is really knowledgeable about this topic. So although, I didn't read all the readings i was still able to do well on Midterm paper. I don't think he is as tough a grader as others have made him out to be.
I have mixed feeling about Prof. Remy. Personally I believe that he is genuinely a very nice person. As a student in his undergrad history course, I was left to desire more. I had read great review and had very high expectations. 2 much reading, without clear and constructive direction, lectures are bazaar (open discussion). Inconsistent grading
The best history professor at Brooklyn college. Yes there is a lot of reading but it is a history course so you shouldn't surprised. He gives weekly quizzes to ensure the reading is done which always motivated me to have it done. He is extremely smart and loves his job which makes class very enjoyable. Take his class, you won't regret it!!!
Remy is cool. Go to class, do the readings, you'll be fine. If you skip class, you'll miss the quizzes and have no idea what is going on. Puts all power points online, tests are straight forward.
MUST TAKE GOOD NOTES BASED ON WHAT HE SAYS, POSTED POWERPOINTS ARE NOT ENOUGH! I wish I knew from the start; you'll need the notes for midterm and final. Pop quizes based only on the assigned reading for the day. Kind and fair, no curve. Come to him during office hours for things you didn't catch in class, or review for the midterm and final.
He knows his stuff and is enthusiastic about teaching but the material is boring. A bunch of reading every week and a pop quiz almost every week. If you enjoy reading then this class will be fine for you.
He's an amazing professor but a tough grader. You need to show up to class because he gives pop quizzes weekly. Quizzes are based on the readings he assigns on the syllabus. His lectures are boring so get ready to fall asleep once in a while. The exams are hard so make sure you get all the notes and study weeks before the exam.
Remy is an extremely reasonable and good man, I don't really have anything bad to say about him. He gives unscheduled quizzes that our around 5 multiple-choice questions which are based on homework, which is mainly reading. Having said that you need to show up and read for every class. His tests and quizzes are not hard if you read.
This professor was awesome. If you sit in his class, take good notes, you don't even need the textbook. I didn't even buy it. His pop quizzes are super reasonable, no hard questions, completely based on the readings he assigns. The readings will take approximately an hour to read. TAKE HIM!
The course was a pleasant experience and Professor Remy did very well in improving our knowledge of interpreting history, stimulating class discussion, and how to prepare our essays. Unfortunately, some of the reading material was not directly helpful to the course and for our future assignments. Good effort good grade
I loved how the course was organized in a way where we have almost all semester long to prepare for one big research paper. Some of the reading assignments however weren't really helpful and even now, I can't recall or remember how it was significant to the course. But overall, I loved the class and the grading criteria is very clear.
wow most caring and understanding professor. Had him during the pandemic... gave so much extra credit because he clearly really wanted his students to do well, made getting an A sooo easy. gave a quiz once a week so you had to check in during class time. 2 tests with review sessions. I wish there were more professors like him!!!!
He's a solid choice. Not the easiest professor- you have pop quizzes almost weekly and his exams aren't the simplest- but he cares and will help you get a great mark. Good choice.
Professor Remy is an absolutely amazing teacher, take him if you can. Not only is he an expert in his field (Nazi German), which makes class even more interesting, he is extremely accommodating and wants you to pass. If you are looking for a great class with a moderate level of work (there are weekly papers), I recommend.
Professor Remy is one of my all-time favorite teachers. I liked how he structured online class (listen to lectures outside of class and then an in-depth discussion in class). He has been very supportive and he makes the class content really interesting and engaging. There are short papers every week that arent the easiest, but hes a v good choice
OMG he is literally amazing. so understanding, favorite professor ever!
What I am dissatisfied with is that the reading articles he gave are really long and some are difficult to understand. The short questions in the exam make me uncomfortable. How many points you get depends entirely on what the professor thinks. Moreover, he got a lot of points on a problem, and the fault tolerance rate was very low.
I highly suggest taking him for HIST 2001. I signed up with another prof and his syllabus is way more manageable. He is very engaging and will work with you. Really wants everyone to succeed. 10/10 recommend
Professor Remy is an amazing professor with much knowledge in historian skills. His assignments are some times overwhelming and much to handle but asking for help is never a bad thing. He's very understanding and will always help you along the way. Course topics are interesting and engaging, the books were so-so.
Get ready for a boring lecture!!!!!!!! He gives new reading assignments twice a week that you MUST complete or you fail the quiz he gives everyday. He does not use notes when doing a topic. Tons of reading, lots of talking, no notes to even study. Worst class I've ever taken.
His class is everything that I could ask for. Clear expectations and fair grading. The pop quizzes were easy enough if you did the reading, he drops the lowest grade and he provides extra credit opportunities.I think that he provides a good balance between lecturing and class discussion.
Random grading with no feedback. Lots of assignments, and very slow grading. Very unstable assignment guidelines, sometimes via personal emails, sometimes as pdf, you are supposed to send a docx. Puts own agenda in the classroom. This is why I am against unrelated classes as a graduation requirement. Stay away from CUNY Schools.
The class has a good balance of lecture and discussion. Readings are crucial, but the professor provides opportunities for extra credit. unstuck AI was a game-changer for quiz prep.
