Arrogant! Will go out of his way to make students feel stupid. Tests are tricky. Swears often in class..says nothing when students swear in class. Doesnt create a possitive learning environment. Take at your own risk!
I hate the pop quizzes he gives. His tests are mostly mult-choice, and a few short answer; many questions involve graphs.
Instructor is an "aquired taste." Tests were challenging and pop quizzes are a smart way to award people for actually COMING to class. The lectures covered a great deal of material. Yes, does cuss at times, but that livens up the lecture. By no means does cussing "ruin a learning environment!"
I hate the pop quizzes. Class is so boring. It seems like time does not pass by. I hate the way he puts students on the stop in class. If we did know the answer we dont anymore because we are so nervous. I dont mind the swearing..I mind his pop quizzes.
Is alright as a person but does not give clear enough information as far as test are concern. I feel unprepared for test and quizzes even after i spend time myself trying to understand the class
Worst professor alive.
very unclear, gives the impression he is better than you and your answers are never right. He will also make a fool of you in front of the class and he thinks it is funny.
Schamber is arrogant, puts students on the spot and when they answer they the questions he always makes them sound stupid even if answer is correct. Cusses in class, wish he would dress nicer, too. Lectures were boring and grading was based on tests only. Some multiple choice test questions were subjective but he had ec points on tests.
I personally could not stand him. He was rude and just loved making his students feel stupid. He was unclear and very boring. His tests were difficult and tricky. I do not recommend his class at all.
I dont know why he is teaching. He should stick to law.

He's ok. His lectures are a little dry but I did learn some very interesting things in the class. His tests were hard, mostly because he looks for very specific things in the short answer questions. He comes off as arrogant, which makes it harder to take him seriously as a professor. I probably wouldn't take his class again.
He isn't that great of a lecturer, and if you hate multiple choice tests like me, don't take his class. His tests were too tricky for me.
this by far is the worst teacher i've ever had. hes not a nice person and he tests are extremely hard. everyone in my class failed...
He's the worst teacher I've ever had, his tests are super hard and the questions are worded like trick questions, he grades pop quizzes and other short answer questions super tough, and he's rude, and act like he's better then everyone else. DON’T TAKE HIS CLASS!! C+ and B- are what the intelligent people are getting...
Steven is an awesome teacher. He explains everthing many times, so even people who never had any econ class can easily catch up. His tests are hard, but there are no suprises. Also, he really cares what the class thinks about tests which is very unusual approach.
If you actually do the work you're supposed to do, you'll do fine in his class. Nothing out of the ordinary is expected of you.
I really enjoyed this class. He challenged me more then any other professor and when I went to him for help he helped. You have to work and you have to ask for help when you need it. He isn't going to give you an A just for showing up. I really liked this class and would like to take more of his classes.
arrogant; not personable. the pop quizzes suck- even if you read the book and study your notes, its still subjective to him. he had to give a "gift" quiz for free points b/c the class average was so low. i studied and still got Cs. he intimidates his students and makes them feel stupid, even if you give the correct answer when he calls on you.
He's seriously one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. He makes the class interesting, may seem arrogant, but I guarantee you, the info will stick with you forever. Don't miss class!!! His class is very challenging but I still remember everything he taught me to this day.
I found him to be very helpful. I was sick for most of the semester and missed alot of class and one of the test. He just told me to not worry about the test and told me that my grade will be out of 300 instead of 400. If you read the book and actually take time to understand what you read you will be fine.
Most of everything people have said is true. I thought alot of how they felt in the beginning. Talk to him outside of class hes very different. The quizzes are easy if you just do the readings. His test questions come off the books website. Talk in class it makes your life easier. If he is being mean just be mean right back. Doesnt hurt me.
Great teacher.
Great lectures, I retain the information he give and I don't even need to take notes. The lecture really help you understand the subjuect...Fair with test and quizzes
Great teacher, makes the subject matter make sense. extremely fair with quizzes and tests
Had him for ecom and bus/ law wish i had him again.
Fantastic teacher would highly recommend, Wish he would teach more classes. Very attractive/smart. BLW101601
Steven is not the best teacher I've had, not is he the worst. He is not that subjective or biased; he may be a strong advocate for capitalism, when I wrote my first writing assignment, which strongly advocated socialist ideals, he gave me a good grade with three points marked off for structural errors.
Mr. Schamber is not a very good professor. He is very arrogant, cocky, and narrow-minded. God forbid you ask a question. I ended up with a decent grade, but I was not amused/impressed/etc by his choice of teaching style. I have never met anyone so negative in all my life.
The expectations are somewhat vague. He does not give clear lectures (he understands just not sure he effectly can teach it) and the tests are application based and hard. Better do well on the quizzes and the 3 tests as those are the only grades you get
Professor Steven is awesome. His class makes you think. He's a college professor, not a high school teacher; he shouldn't have to give you guide sheets. Read the book and pay attention in class and you'll understand. And he double-checks to make sure he answered people's questions... He's my favorite professor, and I like his personality.
Prof. Schamber is one of the best instructors I ever had. He is a professional who is trying to teach his students not only about Econ, but also about professional behavior in student's future careers. If you want an easy class, where you can sleep and do nothing this isn't a good choice. If you want to learn & be/act as an adult you should take it
Arrogant, and derisive
He expects you to be an adult, read your textbook, and intelligently defend your position if you answer a question. This isn't arrogance or being mean-spirited. If you want to be coddled, don't take his class. If you want to be challenged and learn the material, this course is for you. Not an easy class, but not unfair... just come prepared.
Prof. Schamber's class is very fun; he's not afraid to tease his students, and be teased in return. A lot of raters (with inferiority complexes perhaps)seem to think his humor is maliciously intended, but it's calculated; it provides incentive for timid students to come to class prepared, and keeps the more outgoing students on their toes in class.
He will challenge you to understand the material, not just repeat it like a parrot. Some people complain that he's mean or rude... I don't see that at all. He's just trying to make you think about it before you speak about it. Not an easy A, but not unreasonably difficult. You will get the grade you deserve. Great teacher, but not for the timid...
OMG! i would not recommend him. I learned absolutely nothing in his class. Tests are not that hard if he could teach clearly. The book has to be used 100%. He is not challenging, its just that you have to study all by urself bc hes not that helpful. :)
Schamber is a nice guy but doesn't teach his class in a way that students can learn and retain the information. His lectures and models are close to useless on the tests, he also shows no interest in how well his students are doing in the course. I took the writing intensive course, I wouldn't recommend taking it. He doesn't give good criticism.
His class make me cry. His tests are hard. No point of attending his class because his lectures is not useful for test. I don't even know why he's still teaching. We started off the class with 22, and now we are down to 6.
Schamber is a very good professor. But he is very hard and will not always just GIVE you answers. He teaches the way more professors should. Gives you the resources to analyze and learn, not just regurgitate. If you can't or won't take time to really learn the subject matter, take another professor
I'm not sure that he has the ability to comprehend what the students are trying to articulate. Somewhat condescending to other students, although has never been towards me. Also doesn't cover much of what is on the test in class, so be sure to read your book.
Not an easy class with him. He is very clear and goes over important points in class, but his arrogant attitude and sarcasm towards students answers makes you not want to continue on with the work. I would avoid is class if possible.
He's not that bad of a professor, you just have to spend time outside of class studying if you don't plan to make an effort then he's not the teacher for you
He is not that bad of a teacher. He is kind of weird at first, but it is not hard to get a good grade. If you are completely lost in the material, I don't know if he can help you that much, so you will have to figure it out on your own.
This guy is good. He is funny, clear, has high but reasonable expectations of his students. His class was for me an enjoyable learning experience.
Schamber is one of the best teachers at Meramec. He expects you to read the material outside of class, but if you actually read it, he is VERY easy. Tests and quizzes come from applying your knowledge and are very straightforward. Those students who said he is hard probably didn't read outside of class. Great prof, would take again.
He is a very knowledgeable professor. He is witty and humorous but at times he can be very hard to understand and doesn't refer the book at all when he sees that the students are confused. It's easy for me to understand him only if i read the chapter from the book, before going to the class. Bottom Line.... he is average...
Type of professor that wants you to think outside the box and will not make things cookie cutter simple because of this. Does assign a lot of work, which may seem overwhelming at first, but it provides lots of practice and ensures better grades, as the homework is waited pretty well to the tests/quizzes. Not an easy class but intelligent teacher.
Great teacher. He expects you to do the work and if you do you will pass this course. He is fun and interesting and uses real world examples.
He is a great professor. Sure you need to study but you're in college. If you do all of the homework, come to class, and pay attention you should do well !
I do not recommend him at all. He is condensing towards everyone and doesn't talk about the material. The class average of the first test was an F, to me that means the problem is with the professor. Switch out of his class if you can.
I thought he was awesome and fairly easy so long as you do the following: read outside of class (he makes it easy by requiring you to do a quiz for each chapter), pay attention & take notes during lecture, and study for a few hours for each exam. He definitely can be pompous, but it is kind of funny. He is definitely intelligent & knows his stuff.
If you enjoy a class where the teacher does not make you feel like an idiot when you answer a question, then I would not recommend taking a class with this teacher. Switch out if possible.
He's funny and it's an easy class if you understand economics. If not he is probably not the teacher for you. If you are to pass READ the book AND take notes in lecture.
You wanna know how bad this teacher is? He is awful. Schambers should not be teaching. Condescending and makes you feel stupid. Not a good learning environment. 4 students wrote letters to the dean expressing their opinions of his teaching habits. If that doesn't tell you how bad of a teacher he is, then you are oblivious. Choose different teacher!
Just got done with this class over the summer, and let me tell you how bad of a teacher this guy is. His tests are unlike anything you will ever take in your entire college career. Condescending, mean, and never gives you a clear answer. He always has to be right one way or the other. Makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Pick a diff teacher!
Strict, but fair. Most of the idiots (the ones he had to re-explain everything to multiple times) dropped the class after the first few weeks. After they left, he really eased up on strictness. His lectures are interesting and there are ample chances for extra credit, including on tests. Just show up and pay attention and you'll do well!
He's rude and hates his job and always talks about how he hates his job. He thinks sarcasm works for him, but it doesn't. You have no idea what's going to be on the first test. He did curve our tests sometimes though. Everything on the tests comes from the book.
Great teacher. Keeps you on your toes and expects a return of his teachings. His sense of humor isn't for all, but it didn't bother me!
Law is what I'm going to school for. Schamber said the first class that the grade won't come easy. Chapter quizzes over every chapter of book at beginning of class. Miss class? Tardy? Oh well -10 points. Got a 50 on first test and went to him with questions because he doesn't do outlines and he told me how to succeed the rest of the semester.
Took Micro once before and had to withdraw because the instructor was horrible. Took Schamber and he explained it much better and I got an A! He gives enough extra credit so that you can make up some points lost on tests, plus the tests themselves have extra credit built-in (but of course there are still students who fail). Would take again!
I loved this class! His lectures are amazing, as he gives you real life examples and makes things clear through descriptions and explanations. He does NOT chew up the book and regurgitate it for you! He really makes you think about the material. I enjoyed this class immensely. You have to be prepared, though!
I took BUS Law and this is a tough class. Reading outside of class is mandatory and coming into class with an idea of what he'll be lecturing about will help a lot. There are daily quizzes on the chapters that you take home, fill out, and bring to class for him to collect. His lectures are interesting and he's a funny dude.
I like this guy. I took a three week micro economics course with him and he did an ok job of teaching. What I really liked about him was that he responded to my emails and actually helped me learn what I didn't understand.
Schamber was a good teacher, he's lectures were interesting and had good examples. You did need to read the book, but it was more important to understand the application than just the terms. Tests are the usual difficulty but you really do need to study. His humor isn't for everyone and neither is his attitude but he knows what he's talking about.
Not sure why he's got such a low score. His class is enjoyable, especially when people participate and he doesn't have to get hung up on the same thing all class. He definitely wants the class to be a conversation, as he says on the first day. He knows his law and can be funny. It's not a rigid course at all.
I really liked Prof. Schamber. One of my favorites, he has a certain sense of humor you can either click or clash with. You have a lot of reading, but if you show up to class and understand the course materials, you will do just fine. He gives all conceptual questions on his tests, so make sure you understand what you are covering.
Funny but can be a smart-ass toward students. There was a homework assignment after every single class, which was annoying. He is also a tough grader.
Definitely one of the more difficult classes I've ever taken. I keep telling myself taking business law online in six weeks over the summer on top of other classes/work is probably why I felt like I was constantly studying, but this class just isn't easy. Unless you've got some sort of crazy memory, you'll for sure need to study for this class.
I enjoy this class because of the information, but this instructor is very condescending, smart-alecky, and rude. His tone towards people is as if everyone is a young, uniformed highschool child instead of giving people necessary respect as adults. Especially, considering I already have been working in this field for years and I'm not 12 or 16.
He's an interesting guy, for sure. He has a very dry sarcastic sense of humor, and can come across as rather arrogant. He does give good lectures, though, but you still have to study A LOT.
His lecture is pretty interesting, but you have to read the chapters beforehand or else the lectures won't make sense. Homework quiz are due before the day the lecture. He also likes to call on people; everyone in the class has to speak at least once.
This professor doesn't believe in review, study guilds, or handouts. All points come from tests over multiple chapters. Tests that cover over a hundred vocabulary terms and many lectures are condensed into small tests of 40 questions. Taking this class is a risk for both good and bad students.
His lectures aren't that informative and they tend to be misleading. If a question is asked he talks down to people, even though he contradicts himself repeatedly. He has sexist and xenophobic undertones that have nothing to do with the economics aspect of anything. It's not that it's a hard class or subject, but simply that he doesn't care.
Some people love his dry sarcastic sense of humor, but it feels more like he is talking down to us. He is unwilling to understand when he is in the wrong. Our class spend a whole 50 minute lecture disputing a test that we all agreed was vague at best when it came to questions. He simply pinned it to us not getting it and the grades we got stood.
Schamber is a great teacher and very smart. Just read your book before class and ask questions if you need to. ECO is Avery interesting class. You need to put some work on it if you want to understand and pass this class with a decent grade.
I wish that I had checked this site before taking this class.
The summer class was just busywork. He was not active in the course. No study guides or reviews for tests. Waited weeks to grade multiple assignments. The class wasn't hard but could have used some direction.
For the online classes, it is mainly all discussion boards. The rubric for them is insane and hard to keep up/understand. I do not recommend taking him.
Would not take a class from him again
This Class Couldve Been Really Easy But He Made It So Difficult. Took Weeks To Grade Assignments. Grading Criteria Was Clear And Laid Out But Hes A Tough Grader. Everything Was In LS Expect The Discussion Board Post. He Gives No Study Guides. He Actually Doesn't Interact With The Class At All. Good Luck Cause Hes The Only Option For This Class.
His discussion boards are so dumb and beyond time absorbing. Makes you post three different discussions 48 hours apart. That makes no sense, just let me do it all at once. Would not recommend teacher!
The online class is not hard, but he requires was too much from discussion board posts. Its like writing two papers a week after the homework and minimum of twelve discussion board posts ranging from 100-200 words every week. It did not help having a very small class either, but the discussion boards were a waste of time and graded too heavily.
A far amount of homework and get ready to read. Reading the textbook is important because he does now cover everything you need to know in his lectures. Plus you wont really know whats going on during the lecture if you did not read the chapter beforehand. Participation is key. He will call you but, is understanding if youre confused.
Firstly I will say this was not a difficult class. Typical note-taking, textbook coverage and test preparation required, but it's not an overwhelming amount of material. I really enjoyed his sense of humor--dry, but fun if you can take a joke. The homework made learning easier, and I enjoyed the weekly discussions. Overall enjoyable class for me.
Save your self and take someone else. I took the class online and it was a disaster. You have a mandatory discussion question every single week, that is basically an essay. The homework modules were questions from the book and pretty easy. Logging in the class everyday is mandatory. You are teaching yourself the class without any help whatsoeve.
His BLW201 class had simple guidelines - Post on the discussion board 3 times a week, and do the homework. The discussion board had to have an initial post of 200 words and then the next two responses needed 100. The homework was 50 questions each week. The 2 exams were worth 60% of the grade which was extremely intimidating. Overall great!
I am 4 days into his online class legal environment of business and I am drowning. 200 questions to do in the online textbook that need to be completed before the 2 online discussion boards. The discussion boards are due on Sundays and require 3 posts all 24 hours apart. 200 words for the first post and 100 words for the replies. Don't recommend!
It's day 7 of this class and I want to drop out. He literally takes grading so serious and makes you do two discussion boards, three replies, a quiz, and homework questions every week. For the discussion replies, you can't do it all at one time and have to wait 24 hours to reply again. It's dumb and he's doin too much for community college.
This professor is a great person and very knowledgeable. When it comes to teaching his subjects that is where he faults terribly. His class was composed of 3 separate grades. Homework, Midterm and final. Midterm and final are both 35% with homework being 30%. Doesn't teach makes you read out of a book. Have fun paying to teach yourself
The word I would use to describe this professor=horrible. His lectures resembled like he came up w/ it on the spot. His class was the most boring class I have ever attended. His exams are VERY hard and provided ZERO guide on preparation. No powerpoint, worksheets, etc. He had no enthusiasm and shouldn't be in the career as a full time professor.
little guidance on what to study for the midterm and final other than "study the book"... each exam covers many chapters so its unclear what is important or not. Does not lecture with a power point, give out notes, or any other exercises. book quizzes each week but the quizzes are not a reflection of the exams so he advises not to study those. help
Never even bothered to hold half of his classes after spring break. Gives 0 guidance on finals & his only tip is to read the textbook (each test covers at least 8 chapters, if not more). If you bomb the midterm do not rely on homework to raise your grade.A HORRIBLE teacher and as an A student normally I am APPALLED by how he is still teaching here
The course with this professor wasn't terrible, but a downside is that at the time of this post, 70% of the grade comes from just two exams. Additionally, you only get one attempt at homework, so stay focused. It's not too hard to pass this class, but the course could be improved. Also, I found the tests to be a little bit difficult. Good luck!
extremely rude to me on multiple occasions. I asked about my grade and it turns out that the posted midterm grade wasn't the grade i got on my midterm but the grade AT midterm. Never actually posted the midterm test grade until the last week of class by then it was too late to save my grade especially because I thought I did well on the midterm.
This class consist of a lot of work sometimes 3 quizzes a week on top of 2 discussion boards a week. There is also no guidance when it comes to preparing for exams. Exams cover multiple chapters and there is no guidance on what you should actually be study, he juts tell you to read the book and that quizzes won't help to prepare.
The class requires extensive reading and preparation, but with the help of resources like unstuck study, it's manageable. Attendance is mandatory, and tests cover a broad range of material, so staying engaged is key.
Essentially only guidance is read textbook, recommened review for tests read textbook, for final read textbook, he does not add anything to this course.
worst teacher I have ever encountered
Has too big of an ego to be worth anything doesn't add anything to the class
If at all possible avoid
