Not a bad guy. i feel like the course didnt teach much though
I really enjoyed this class.
Great class & great professor... extremely intelligent and very helpful!

Very cool guy and a solid professor. No book for the class, just really interesting lectures.
Funny guy, intelligent, but his constant swearing and sarcasm are signs of weakness in character.
his class was tough...we had no home work, no extra credit, which made it hard to get a good grade. there was no book to study from...dont take him if you have to take hist 195...ppl i know have had to repeat it
I hated this class. He tries to make up for his lack of knowledge with sarcasim, yet it's obvious he doesn't know much. Never have done poorly in a class until this one. He also reminds me of a dirty old man. Would never recommend him to anyone.
Very easy class. Requires little work and its easy to get a B. He is a really funny guy and makes class fun.
Tests are somewhat challenging. Must go to class. No book and all lecture notes. A weird sense of humor, but funny. If you go to class, and study a alittle you will be fine.
never had him as a teacher...but if this man is your advisor don't even bother with him. no matter how much you attempt to contact him he won't respond.
probably one of the worst teachers i have ever had. he cancelled classes alot. there was no book to study from. the way he words his quizzes and tests, it can be all of the above. final was 60 true/false.. deff a bad teacher!!
doesn't care about his job and it reflects in his teaching
Easy to follow in class
He is unique in his ownway!
Totaly awesome prof, i would reccomend him to anyone go to class youl get a good grade
This can be a hard class. Every class is notes and more notes. he doesnt require a testbook, so go to class if u want to understand what he is teaching. he keeps the class lively with some humor. there are lots of quizzes and only a few test. he LOVES true/false questions.
this class is cake. no book required all notes. so if you show up to class and pay attention you pass. daily quizzes that you can use your notes for and the answers are verbatim out of the notes.
I HATE history and I am doing pretty well in this class there is no book so you take lots of notes but he is very interesting there are quizzes most of them are open notebook take good notes and the tests aren't too hard. fun prof definitly recomend him for someone who doens't like history.
Your class is interesting and its serious but laid back at the same time
Quite interesting to walk in on the first day, but kinda downhill from that. A little dry at times, but very easy to understand.
I really hate history and I liked his class. He easy if you just read notes. No book no assignments.
Cool guy! No book. Test are easy if you have the notes. Has a great sense of humor. You don't have to be a history major to do well.
cool guy. no books, just lecture. easy T or F quizes. boring at times. tests are pretty difficult.
i hate this class..it is hard to follow...nice guy but it is really hard to read him and it ws the worst class i have taken yet
Nice guy and funny but boring sometimes too. No book so go to class and take lots of notes, the tests and quizzes will be easy then.
not what i would call a cake class, but if you take good notes and review briefly it should be a problem. Very interesting but if you're the type who skips class often choose someone else. no textbook. quite literally, you write your own
I though this prof was very helpful and knowledgeable about the material taught in class. If you like to skip DO NOT take this course...no text book
One midterm and one final. No book and random quizes. He's a funny guy, but it's hard to follow. He gives no homework and you take notes as he stands in the front of the room. Difficult, but interesting.
Schroeder is a pretty good teacher. He explains things and his class is cool, since there is no book u HAVE to take notes that u understand. His class was pretty easy. As far as a person he can be a complete prick and says things that are a lil offensive and make u go "did he just say that?" He's ok tho, all I have to say is STUDY HITLER AT THE END
Schroeder was FANTASTIC! Honestly, one of the BEST classes I've ever taken. There was no book or attendance policy.. however, missing class can be risky. I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend him. I hate history, but was excited to go to class with him! Super interesting!! LOVED IT!
Pretty easy if you really pay attention and don't miss much class. I loved how there's no book, no work whatsoever except taking notes and studying for the 3 tests. More classes should be like this.
WORST prof alive!! if u want an A that is! laziest man ever! lectures r actually interesting for a hist class but the prob is the tests r not on the stuff he talks about in class!! i think hes too lazy to make up diff tests each year so uses tests from last yr n doesnt talk about the same stuff on them! very unfair! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! SERISOULY!
Schroeder isn't that bad of a prof. He can be sarcastic at times, but it's all in good fun. The tests aren't that hard if you write down what he writes on the board and what his voice stresses. Midterm is completely extra credit and the final is just the previous 3 tests, which he gives you time to write down.. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS and you'll do just fine
i absolutely loved this professor. he was very laid back and explained things in an interesting way...and i HATE history. no books, all notes so attendance is important. tests are pretty straight forward and he does do a brief review before hand. i strongly, strongly recommend.
He is a very nice prof. every CH has a online quize which is esay. Exams are Multiple choices and he gives you hents about the exam before it. Attending is very importent gives extra credit for it and test questions are from the notes. I recomnd him
Take his class, Seriously, if you do bad on the quizzes and the test he will just literally give away grades.my class there was tons of construction noise while we were in the middle of the class and he was like screw it, everyone gets 100! and also on an exam that we took, he gave everyone a 90 bc everyone did so poorly, he wants you to pass!
If you can take him...then take him. He lets you have materials for the quizzes...just go to class becuz although he doesn't take role, he will sneak up and give extra credit, which by the way he gives alot. He's sarcastic and funny, you may not like him at first but he is a good prof.
Has you do LOTS of reading every week. His tests are stupid and hard. And he is a big smart A**
Started taking role but by the 3rd week stoped. Testes came from the notes. As long as you take good notes there is no reason you can not pass the class. Take him if you can.
mandatory class attendance. Buy the book, he sneaks up and uses it ALOT for the tests. no midterm, a book analysis, 3 exams and the final. His tests are slightly unfair, he'll mention some once, and have half the test on it...and then talk about some for an entire lecture..and mention once on the test. Overall good though.
His tests are pretty difficult. Questions are phrased in a way that you think you got it and then you realize otherwise when you get the test back. Not really helpful during office hours just sort of lets you look at the test and does his own stuff. He is a great guy and knows a lot but as a teacher I am not so sure.
Prepare to do a lot of reading. His tests are based primarily on the book, and only a few essay questions are taken from the lectures. The test questions ask tiny details found in the book, and it's very frustrating. The plus side: the final was the three exams we took in class, pasted together. He's a good lecturer, but not a very good teacher.
Very knowledgeable and interesting professor. Very little homework, only a few article analysis papers. Tests are 50% of the grade, and they are difficult. He makes them sound like they will be easy but they are very comprehensive. Book is necessary.
Attendance is mandatory, the test relies heavily on the book, and the second section of the test is on your notes. We only had 3 tests, but there are usually 4, there are two article analysis's, and one book review. If you don't want a class that weighs heavily on a few things, don't take him. He's a bad teacher, but a good lecturer.
Good teacher. Attendance doesn't matter, he pretty much just leaves it up to you if you want to do well. Study his study guides! They are long but he will pick out certain questions and they will be word for word on the test. He is a great teacher.
Attendance not mandatory, never did a single quiz only had 3 tests, study the study guide for 1st part of test, 2nd part forget it, the essays are okay the voc isn't even on the study guide. Does do some bonus. Overall he's a decent prof. but for a 195 he expects too much!
His side tracks are sometimes important notes and his notes are sometimes unimportant sidetracks. I sent him an e-mail the third week of the semester and am still waiting for a reply...on finals week. Basically he just wasn't that great of a teach, which is weird because I had him for a lower lever history course and he was fantastic.
Hes a nice guy, and his lectures keep your attention but his tests are pretty unfair.PartA just do the study guides, you don't even need the book I just googled the questions. PartB what u talked about in Class but He will stress something for days and it wont be on the test,& one little comment will b the whole written part. But hes pass-able
you better read your book and pay attention and get ready for 3-4 pages of notes everyday. be ready for no assignments except for 2 essays. he is horrible dont ever take him he is boring and most of his test questions are on the book's info which he never covers. hes the worst professor ive ever had. because of him i switched my major.
Overall fairly decent, very sarcastic. Attendence is mandatory. Make sure you read the book as he doesn't cover all test material in class. Tests are very unpredictable. Do the study guide and you'll nail part1. Part 2 may have questions he barely went over in class and he expects very detailed answers. A good lecturer but tests can be unfair.
The study guides are extremely hard and take forever to do so the tests suck. Completely lecture and book based class, no powerpoints or anything just a professor rambling for an hour. I dreading this class everyday but I passed.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!! mean. lectures are easy to understand. but tests are nothing like his lectures. just read the book. his lectures are pretty much worthless. pop quizes are his specialty. but he is seriously a bad bad bad bad teacher. dont ever take him unless you already know everything about history.
I dont know why so many people find this mans class so hard. He doesn't take attendence so you dont have to go but i would recommend it. You have OPEN NOTE quizzes, seriously the easiest things i have ever taken. So what, he makes you take notes your in college. For exams he gives you a packet with the questions in it. Just go to class!
Dr. Schroeder is such a funny guy, he makes class interesting. He is notorious for pop quizzes but if you're in class he will hint that there will be one coming up. Plus they're always open book. His tests are hard, but he only gives two and the final. Use the book to prepare for his exams and study the packet he gives out.
Dr. Schroeder is a great prof! This class was super easy and very interesting. He takes attendance and allows 3 misses, but after that points come off of your final grade. Tests are easy and straight forward. Hold off on buying the novels for the class, they might not be used.
He makes very interesting lectures. He is very flexible with grades. The class is a little bit difficult but if you show up to class and take notes you should be fine for the exams 2nd part. He gives you a study guide for every test and you can find MOST of the answers in the book. If you can't find them, then google them. I would take him again
Exams were always glitched, was of no help for some of the assignments and the teacher seemed like he didn't understand what he was assigning.
I had this class at 8am.... absolute nightmare. He makes about 80 multiple choice questions available online and 50 are on the exam, so it's mostly memorization, but the second part of the exam is short answer and for that you have to go to class and take great notes. he's actually pretty cool but the class sucks
Its a lecture class so be prepared to take lots of notes. Doesnt take attendance but loves pop quizzes. He allows open notes for some quizzes but not all. The book wasnt too helpful but he asks a few questions on exams about book. Its not the easiest but if you show up, take good notes, and memorize youll be fine. I would definitely take him again.
Condescending lectures and ridiculous assignments that were unnecessary and a waste of time.
Excellent teacher. I'm taking his Western Civ before 1600 class and it's made up of lectures, taking notes, pop quizzes, and exams. The lectures are extremely interesting (I love this subject so I'm kinda biased), when we had trouble with the scantrons he let us take it again WITH NOTES, and if you come to class he may warn you about the next quiz!
I think he's a good professor. The first day of class he came across as a bit condescending, but he's actually a really laid back guy. There are a lot of quizzes - that's inevitable, but he gives you a heads up. Attendance is not mandatory, but you definitely should show up to understand the lectures and to be prepared for quizzes.
I know many that regularly skipped his class and did fine. He says attendance matters, but never took it. Mid-term was take home, final was a horrible movie review, paper wasn't taken seriously. No feedback was ever given. Easy class, but I can't say I really learned a whole even though I never skipped. Honestly, it felt like he didn't care.
He understands that this may be a course you have to take in order to fulfill requirements! He also understands that the worst part about History is learning all the specific dates, so he doesn't torture you with that. Rather, he is more interested in the concepts and ideas and actual happenings in history. Nice guy.
He came off as a bit intimidating and dry at first, but as the class continued I really started to enjoy it. He's very willing to answer any questions you have and clearly enjoys History! He expects you to know the material, but he's definitely one of my favorite professors.
Dr. Schroeder appeared intimidating at first, but he is a very nice guy. He tells cheesy jokes, but overall, I would take him again.
He is a great teacher you may come in the class not liking history. You will start to love it after you have him as a teacher.
He talks a lot.
Good class. Lecture from beginning to end.
LECTURE HEAVY. Lectured every single day (but got off topic very easily). The only things graded were the midterm, final, and work that was done on MindTap. Textbook is necessary to pass the tests, because he puts questions on the exams that he does not discuss in class. Definitely read the textbook and take your own notes!
DO NOT TAKE. One of the worst professors I have ever had. Exams are almost entirely based on the textbook, with few of the questions being based on his lectures. He lectures the entire time, and never interacts with the class. He doesn't use powerpoints and rarely writes on the board. Do not take, this class was the biggest waste of my time.
Dr. Schroeder's the man! I don't understand the dislike 100-level students have for him. I've taken 2 classes with him during my time at IUP and I managed high B's in both (probably A's if I tried harder). He is old school lecture and I appreciate that about him. Show up for class, listen to his lectures, and make an effort to ask questions.
A solid option for a history prof. His lectures really don't mean anything since his tests are based strictly from the textbook so attendance isn't a must. Outside of three tests, you have to purchase the book which has online homework assignments but are extremely easy. Will give extra credit often, some of which you have to be present for class.
I've never liked history classes but he was the best professor for this class I could've asked for. Very dry, entertaining humor and explains the history well. Homework assignments are very easy and if you go to class and take notes you will pass the class. There's an online book I never opened but still did well in the class.
He has a dry sense of humor, doesnt give out too many tests, but online assignments are very frequent- keep up with them as best as you can. *NOTES ARE IMPORTANT! HE WILL LET YOU USE NOTES DURING SOME TESTS AND MOST QUIZZES!* He also gives random extra credit Easter eggs
Dr. Schroeder is a great professor for history because he is very knowledgeable and teaches about relevant stuff. If you actually go to class and have some basic knowledge about the United States' history since ww2 you should be fine. Very interesting material but the cengage hw gets annoying after awhile.
This guy is terrible. He doesnt give any written notes or powerpoints. Barely writes on the board. He makes no effort to interact with the class or get to know any of us or our names for that matter. Honestly one of the worst professors anybody could ever have. Do not take class with him.
Dr. Schroeder is my favorite professor this semester. Hes not the typical professor that just reads off of a powerpoint. As for assessments, he gives open note unannounced quizzes, simple homework assignments if he cancels class, and 3 exams (including the final), and the final is NOT cumulative. If you pay attention in class, youll be golden
Not too bad. Used an online platform that was a bit difficult at times. Exams were easy-but he did not give too much feedback on grading them. He just gave you a grade, no feedback. I am hoping to land with an "A" in this course, but might land with a "B." I just needed this as a liberal studies. Only complaint is lack of feedback on grading.
This is the hardest A I've had to work for yet. He makes it very clear that there is a "normal curve" and most people should be getting Cs so he makes his quizzes and exams pretty hard. There isn't a book you have to buy, he puts pdfs on d2l. He is a good prof though, his lectures are a little dry. You have to read the pdfs to pass.
Made the transition of having all online classes pretty easy. Kept all of his assignments in one place on connect and everything was organized by chapter. He seems like a nice guy and understanding through the hectic semester. I would take him again for another class, not sure how he is in a in person/regular class setting.
I loved his History 196 class! He was very consistent and his lectures were easy to follow along. The tests were fairly easy and straight forward.
His lectures were a little boring but sometimes interesting. Dr. Shroedor is a nice guy and his class is not that difficult. Recommend taking.
Dr. Schroeder is probably cool if you're a history buff. Personally, I found his teaching style and humor to be a bit dry, but overall, he was a good history teacher. We covered a lot of material.
