Very good teacher.Good lectures and labs.
dr scott is cool. just come to class and do labs and your fine. his tests are out there but the final is what really makes your grade. he's always down to help you if you don't understand and you'll want to wash your hands after taking this class!!
Dr. Scott is awesome! I'm currently taking his microbiology class. He is a lot of fun, and writes clear notes on the board. His tests are insane, but I hear that if you stick it out...you'll do fine. Highly recommended.
this teacher is really cool. He lectures so well you forget he has a stutter. His tests are a little hard but all you have to do is study your notes over and over. His labs are fun and easy as well. He is very easy to get along with and u can ask him for fitness advice too! GO AGGIES!!
Stephen Scott (Micro at Merritt) was hands down the worst professor I've ever had. He gives multiple choice exams with poorly written ambiguous questions. When students bring up legitimate arguments as to why their answer is the right one, he responds with something to the effect of, "I'll have
Dr Scott's lectures are clear & interesting. He takes lots of time to answer questions. His exams are really tough & you have to really know the material inside out. Take good notes becuase he does present the material very clearly - after that the work is up to you.
Dr. Scott is an excellent teacher. :)
I fell in love with micro because of Dr. Scott. he's a great teacher. :)
Dr.Scott is exellent instructor. Yes, the tests are hard, but it is college and not a high-school. You have to be present on the lectures, since he takes the question from it. He is fun and easy to talk. Be ready to use your critical thinking. I easily got A, but did sudy a lot!!!
Dr. Scott is a great teacher. He has a fun sense of humor and is passionate about the subject. The tests are not easy. He is understanding, though, and you will learn a lot!
class is hard but he develops your critical thinking skills. study hard and you'll get a good grade. class is worth taking.
Dr. Scott is very cool, friendly, and passionate professor! Do not get dissapointed the result of your first test (First test is the hardest one, but you can drop lowest score of the test). I got low score at first, but improved later on! focus on the lecture and related materials.
I really enjoyed this class alot! Dr. Scott is such a great teacher he doesnt play favorites or anything. His test are set up for you to think not like other test were the questions are stright forward. I did poorly on some of his test but with 20 points of extra cradit points and the final i got a B in the class.
Dr. Scott is a cool teacher and a nice guy, but the class was intense. The tests are hard, and the finals was an overload- 5 essays! but you only turn one in; and he checks and make sure you do all 5.
mr.scott is really dedicated to his subject, but you really have to think out the box in his class, his test are not the typical test just knowing a definition isn't good enough you have to know why. he is really funny just hard
Dr. Scott is a good teacher. He shows no favoritism. He doesn't overwhelm you with a lot of information. His tests emphasize critical thinking. Make sure you know everything in lectures. You have to write five essays for the final and turn in one. Don't wait until the last minute to write them because it can be a lot of work!
His tests are extremely tough especially the first one.Stick with it and work hard and you'll be rewarded. Unfortunately too much is crammed into the last 4 weeks of the class so expect to be overwhelmed. The final consists of five 10 page papers for a total of 50+ pages. It is NOT an easy class but he is a wonderful caring professor.Lab is tedious!
He is a great teacher but the tests are hard! Study study study!
Microbiology was a very good class. Very open, friendly, knowledgeable professor. Not an easy class, first test is very hard. But I highly recommend this class.
Microbiology is a challenging subject. Take lecture notes, attend class and study those notes over and over! You've got to put in effort, denoument should be rewarding! Every professor has to find the best approach to present this material. Dr. Scott has a style of his own. Learn it FAST and get with the program.
Good teacher! Always willing to help any way possible. But hard test and Essays. I like the fact that there is no final exam just the 5 essays due.He gives you all the assignments within the 1st week.
Very nice, five long essays only picks one, and it takes many hours, His test are hard and you have to study alot . dont take this class with other classes if you work or have kids, An A is do able but very hard to get if you are going to try to half ass it.
I'm a CAL grad. I found this class very hard. The tests require lots of careful thinking. The essays are long and tedious. BUT, most passionate prof ever. Very helpful. Interesting lectures. Lab is easy/fun. Useful info. MUST attend class to do well. Write everything down. Study hard every day. The complainers didn't study. A class worth your time.
Nothing new to add. The class was extrememly challenging to everyone in it, with no exceptions. The ability to take many pages of notes and then compress them into one or two portable study pages is essential. For tests, take the first one and then try to figure out how to study for the rest. Dr. Scott genuinely cares about his students.
hard hard hard but totally worth it. you might go through phases of being unhappy and feeling overwhelmed but at the end you will have the greatest sense of accomplishment.
Awesome teacher who really cares about students. Study hard and you will be rewarded. Nothing comes easy in this class so it is not for those who are looking to get by. The material I learned, I still use, and I am a much better student because of him and his course.
Dr. Scott is an absolutely AMAZING teacher. He cares so much about what he teaches and is genuinely interested in helping his students exceed. Forewarning, his class is HARD, and his exams are even harder, but if you want to really learn, you want Dr. Scott. He also offers extra credit.
Really Good teacher but Jesus the lecture is so easy to understand but The test SO Hard STUDY STUDY STUDY if you take this class you better be ready and have time. Everyone can do it, but it is Challenging.
Very knowledgeable professor. Wants students to succeed. He brings energy and excitement to lectures. Dynamic and engaging classroom style. Challenges students to think critically which is great. Only drawback - not precise in his use of language which makes his lectures and test questions unclear at times.
I knew I had to really study after my first exam, so I studied everyday from then on. I attended all his lectures and labs, stayed away from people who was unmotivated, because I did not want them to rub off on me. I got a tutor and from there, my grade increased with every exam taken after. The teacher cares about students who care about the class
Inspiring, dedicated, generous with his time, and kindhearted. Extremely committed to your success. Goes out of his way to organize the material so that it is clear. The day before our first test, he stood in the hallway and answered last minute questions of multiple students. Smart enough for Harvard, but I'm really glad he's here. Total win.
Dr. Scott is amazing. He is able to teach to multiple levels simultaneously- from little biology to previous masters degrees. Dedicated & passionate. Profs like him are the reasons community colleges rock. Every single class I took from him inspired me in some way. Impressive prof, makes you believe in your own intelligence. A+.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He has the reputation as one of the worst professors at Peralta. Material tested on is not covered in class, and requires hours of study from the book.
Great professor - very enthusiastic about material. Teaching style worked for me - urged us to see the connections between systems and functions. Required a lot of studying outside of class but worth it - I know the material. Don't take it from him if you want to coast/slack - it isn't that kind of class. Work hard & it pays off.
Took scott for Pathophysiology. Very difficult 9 week class. had to write over 30 pages of essays. didn't mind that, but got NO FEEDBACK on the work. That was extremely dissapointing. I felt totally ripped off. what is the point of writing essays if you don't get any feedback? just give mult. choice exams if your too lazy to grade!
with hard work lots of time this class will pay of scott is a great teacher who loves what he does i am blessed to have been in his class!!! its a plus that hes so goodlooking
Dr Scott is a wonderful role model and a brilliant teacher. I have nothing but good things to say about him. The class is hard work from beginning to end, but he is more than willing to answer questions and very fair. Our class loved him- We will miss you Dr Scott!!! (R. Rose)
took micro with him. thought he was bad at first but then realized he's actually great. always answers questions. you need to STUDY your butt off for this class tho. he will always answer questions but his tests take great understanding of subject (all stuff from class) and ability to relate it to different things in body. STUDY!!
I took Micro from this maniac last semester. He is one of my favorite teachers of all times. Go to class, ask questions, don't just memorize understand how to apply in 411. After the 1st test (I failed) I wanted to give up but didn't. I have never learned so much from 1 class. He is really hard but he really cares.
did not care much for him at first. has a mild stutter that takes some getting used to. wanted to dismiss him as having short guy syndrome. Then half way through the semester I realized he's freakin awesome! One of my all time favorite teachers, and really nice guy. If you aren't prepared to study hard then don't bother. boost your I.Q.!
A really nice guy and means well. Wants students to learn. Unfortunately this is another case of professors needing to be held accountable to knowing how to teach - maybe a teaching credential? Lectures seemed unplanned and random. No outline or slides used. Perhaps not a problem if you don't need structure.
I don't really get all the comments... unless I realllllly missed something. He just gets up there and talks, doesn't follow any logical pattern of thinking (its not that he's unstructured that is a problem, I can totally work with that). No clear train of thought, patho was basically a repeat of physio... only with less detail and made les sense
Dr. Scott is such a nice guy, very smart HOWEVER his lectures are not organized, no slides and things get confusing. You have to study the information he gives you AND THEN ask questions because there is always something he isnt clear on. Tests were written very hard, wording was weird. He curves a lot though. A do-able class but you'll work hard.
Dr.Scott will push you harder than you have even been pushed. You will doubt your capability, and endure a lot of stress, but the man prepares you for the real world of Microbio. He teaches beyond community college level and the tests are really hard, but all is worth it. If you can't commit to this class 100% you may need to find another teacher.
I don't get the negative comments. Aside from being a nice & understanding professor, he's so smart & his lectures are very organized. No, he doesn't use slides but he's very clear with the material. His tests are hard but not impossible, I got an A but of course I worked for it, as any student should. The bitter ones are just lazy. STUDY, PEOPLE!!
Probably one of the best professors in the state and possibly the country for such a difficult subject matter. He breaks down everything clearly and his lectures outline everything in very straightforward, organized manner. His tests are very difficult, but he is fair and wants people to understand the subject matter.
Dr. Scott really makes you think. I like his mind maps and questions that put you on the spot so you really know if you understand the content. At first I didn't like his questions, but then I realized the importance of it. I would take another class with him and I know it will be challenging, but at least I will know the content. Record lectures
I cannot say enough about how great Dr Scott is! I had him for micro and path and he really cares about helping students LEARN not just memorize. Talk in class, make sure he knows who you are. Don't be discouraged by low exam grades, partly subjective grading. Literally the best teacher I have ever had. Not an easy teacher but will TEACH YOU!
If you do not do well on tests then this is not the class for you. His exams are some of the hardest I have ever done! Having said that I did well in the class and really enjoyed it. The final essays are intense but I left feeling that I really knew the subject matter. If you don't test well try to find another teacher!
test are kinda hard but its best to have a study partner, and the last final is 5 essays that are really hard, i recommend to start them asap, he is a fun teacher got a b, lab exams are easy if you complete all your labs on time, you need to really commit to this it was only hard cuz im a single mom most my time was somewhere else
I wish I had not taken him. Honestly, he's more concerned about trying to teach you how to be a good student than helping you learn the material and do well. I'm frustrated and I wish I had taken somebody else. :(
Great lectures, passionate teacher, fair grading. Not always completely clear, had to do my own research to understand some things. Study group is recommended. VERY hard tests, but gracious about corrections, and gives you the benefit of the doubt. Treated us like mature adults, I appreciated that. I recommend him.
Even though Dr Scott is a hard teacher, he is also good and willing to work with you. His class requires a lot of studying and he gives us 5 essays to work on and they are a little difficult I stayed up all nite working on them so its best to start on them right away. If he see that you are trying he will give you a good grade so STUDY HARD!!!!
All I can say is Oh!MyGOD!!! Scott is so,so,so very hard.
This class demands a lot of time if you want to get a good grade. His tests are very challenging, but he does give you all the info you need. The key is to be able to critically think about the given info. Labs are super boring and he isn't really present. He is always willing to help if you ask, but I always feel like I am bothering him tho
When I took Scott for Micro, I felt like maybe I wasn't smart enough to become a nurse. I learned more from him than any other teacher- EVER. He is a genius, clear, dedicated. If you are looking for an easy teacher, he is not for you. If you want to learn, he is. He changed my life and how I looked at myself as a student. Get ready to work HARD
This teacher is awesome. Because of him, I actually enjoy science. Although this class was probably the hardest class ive ever taken, his teaching style and enthusiasm made me want to learn in his class. Don't miss lab or lec. Start on essays as early as possible. Don't use book! Take good lec notes and make sure u understand them. Record lectures.
If you're used to putting in a B effort and getting As... think again. This class will test you on so many levels. Memorization of terms is not enough. You have to know it so well, and breathe it to get an A! Thank God for my lil sis who prevented me from dropping this class because I was so stressed... ended up with a B but I learned so much!
NOT AN EASY A!Dr. Scott is an excellent teacher who is passionate about what he teaches. The class is extremely hard! You will have no life whatsoever while taking this class but will learn so much!4 exams,2 lab tests& reports 5 essays(start on them early!!!!) and xtra credit. Drop 1 exam. No time for slacking! My exam scores:54,64,76,87& I got a B.
Hardest class I have ever taken but I do not regret taking the class. I learned so much from him not only about Micro but study habits and how I think. This class is very intense and the tests are brutal! I failed the first test and ended up with a B.This class not about memorization. No time for personal life. You will be MIA for about 3 months!
its a hard class. first exam is usually the worst exam and prob be dropped out of the 4 exams. studying for this class is required and even tho i didnt used the book, the book prob would have help you understand some concepts that he does not mention in class and can prob end up in an exam.
350 characters is not enough to tell you how much this teacher changed my life. Micro was intense and challenging but he is fair. After I failed my 1st test, I went to his office and sadly, I cried. I thought I wasn't smart enough. He knew better. I am now in the ABSN program at SMU. Dr Scott taught me how to work hard for what I want. Amazing
Took Dr Scott for both Micro and Patho. He is extremely intelligent and brings the UC education to Merritt College. To me, he was a mentor and wrote me the best letter of rec for nursing school. I got in! Get as much as you can from him. You will be better for it. He works hard and is not a lazy teacher. Your successes are his too. My favorite!
Dr. Scott was a GREAT teacher. If you need help he will stay after lab and help you. When he talks about a part in the lecture he really loves he gets really excited and starts lecturing really fast, so I would HIGHLY recommend RECORDING the lectures. This helped me out so much! He is a great, smart and caring person.
After I failed my fist test I was ready to drop the class, but Dr. Scott convinced me to stick around and try. This class requires you to LEARN the material in oder to answer his questions. I ended up with an A, and I am now in my 2nd semester of nursing school. I really have him to thank for believing in me and pushing me to LEARN not memorize
EXCELLENT TEACHER! Makes material interesting to learn. Doesn't use technology. Has great uses of analogies and pictures to help you remember. Funny guy. He loves what he does and it shows. YES, his tests are hard and the final project is crazy but he gives you a good amount of extra credit to give you a little comeback. Highly recommended.
Scott is tough but entertaining! Took his class this summer and it was brutal with another class. All I did was study. Scott is so smart, helpful and a great lecturer. 1st test is the worst but I had no problems after that. Totally recommend Scott's class if you're willing to work for it- you'll need to learn to interpret his questions to do well.
This class has been the most difficult that I have taken--and I have taken a lot of higher level courses. He is clear and concise, willing to go over areas he feels the class is fuzzy on and always available to help an individual. He wants you to succeed, but you have to WANT to succeed and put the work in too. I have learned the most in this class
This class is incredibly difficult. That being said, I have learned the most from this class than any other in my long academic career. Dr. Scott truly gives you the skills to learn and understand as much as you possibly can. I absolutely recommend you take this class - it is a true challenge but also an in depth learning experience.
Hard, hard, hard, but he makes sure you get it. Very patient, very helpful, very fair, but did I mention HARD? Be prepared to dedicate your life to this class.
This class was hard, but not nursing school hard. Scott was great! I took this class as a pre-req for an entry MSN in nursing and it was THE MOST helpful class I took in terms of preparing me for the future. If you struggle with this, know that a decent nursing program is 80% harder with no extra credit. Fantastic preparation for what was to come.
Great teacher are hard to come by - Dr Scott is brilliant! Take his class, you will be forever grateful.
He clearly loves Microbiology and teaching. His whiteboard lectures are very well organized. Textbook is not required but I found it helpful. 4 lecture exams (drops lowest score), 2 lab exams, 2 lab reports, 5 final papers instead of a final exam. Some extra credit. Tests are difficult! If you put in the work and don't get behind you can get an A.
The best teacher I ever had! Makes me to love science classes!!
Dr. Scott missed the first week of the semester and failed to make his syllabus available in any form. Lectures felt rushed and disorganized. Without giving a reason he left for 6 weeks 1 week prior to the first exam. Despite the obstacles he wrote an exam that resulted in a class avg. of 54%. During labs, after a brief intro he was hard to find.
Something must have happened this semester because Dr. Scott suddenly left without explanation. But from the bit of experience I do have with him- AMAZING. This guy could make a blank piece of paper interesting. His tests are HARD. Like, break down in tears if you wait til the last minute hard.
Dr Scott Changed my life. I LOVE him. His class is great. it will not be easy but if you make it through it you will never be the same. The things I learned from him really stuck. Don't be afraid of doing poorly on the exams, he leaves opportunities to bring up your grade later on.
Easily one of the most knowledgeble micro teachers around! This was the most challenging course I've taken, however it will prepare you well for whichever program you plan on attending; nursing/PA etc. Good luck, my only tip is to start writing your papers early!
This was the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. If you want to do well, you need to dedicate your life to this class for 9 weeks. His lectures are amazing, but expect to teach yourself for the test. His tests are very hard, and it really makes you dig the subject. It was the best learning experience for me though.
He is a very nice instructor but his tests are extremely hard and unpassable unless you dedicate your life to this class and this class only. Even after studying for every test I still failed them. I never missed a class and turned in all labs and was able to pass with a C. Ive never gotten below a B in any other class.
Dr. Scott really wants you to learn microbiology. He prepares you for nursing school, or any other medical program, memorization is not going to help you pass his class it is all based on critical thinking his exams are really hard but if you study and record lectures and ask for clarification you'll do fine, work on essaysearly, extra credit too
Dont let the reviews or horror stories scare you. Yes this class is very hard and you will have to dedicate lots of time to studying but it's not impossible to pass. I took this class with two other classes while working and taking care of an infant and still received an A. If I can do it with all that, anyone can. Plus he's hilarious. Take him!!!
He shouldn't even be a science teacher. Constantly talks about religion/gives unwanted health advice/tells inappropriate stories about past students. He also gives innaccurate info. Told us the world was around for 6000 years (a lie & religious belief) and that we use 10% of our brain (a common myth). Tests make literally no sense and have typos.
Terrible. No structure grading is extremely sketchy. I dont care how nice a teacher he is or how much he influenced me. If a tracher cant teac and gives unusually low grades then its time to drop. Dont risk low grades eesp if youre a nursing student
Dr. Scott changed the way I think. His Microbiology class was so immersive that I wish he was teaching all my BIO classes. He challenges you to think and develop a true understanding of the processes, both in theory and in function when applied to the human body. If you're entering the healthcare field you need to take this class!
Tough class that requires a lot of work, but what do you expect? You're taking a COLLEGE level course, most likely to apply to a challenging field like medicine. His lectures are really thorough, tests are based off them, take good notes! Re-explains something if someone asks, ask questions! Takes attendance even if it doesn't look like it.
This professor never covered the syllabus on the first day because he didnt have one with him. Says he emailed everyone copies but only a handful received it. 99% of what he covered on the first day had no direction. Its hard to accept him as a teacher -- or a 'dr' at that. If you want a fair A for nursing, you wont get it here. Bail asap.
Dr. Scott is a funny guy! Loves microbiology. Record his lectures, and recopy the notes , make concept maps. Exams are extremely difficult, understand the WHY to every concept he throws at you. The lowest exam score will be droppedCA, but always TRY your hardest. Study at least 10-15 hours outside of class.
Dr. Scott is an amazing professor. Although this class was hard I truly enjoyed learning about microbiology. Dr. Scott made every lecture exciting and kept you wanting to learn more. You MUST study a lot if you plan on passing this class. It's to be taken seriously as it should especially if you are going on to nursing school. STUDY!!!
His exams are literally the hardest exams I have ever taken. I truly feel his class was a wake up call to the realities of the level of difficulty I will experience in nursing school. Taking Dr. Scott truly makes me feel prepared. He gave me a sense of confidence, and was very inspiring. Doesn't hurt that he's funny too!
Really nice guy who wants you to succeed! Tests are vast and cover ALL of the notes. Know why not how and he will give example questions to help you understand and study. 1 test is dropped, and he does care BUT you have to study. Record the lectures and go back and listen to them. Final: 5 essays -- get started early because they're time consuming!
dr. scott seems passionate about pathophysiology, but the level of subjectivity and ambiguity in his exams is really unacceptable. in order to do well, you must focus on what you think he wants rather than the facts. he also teaches many things that are scientifically untrue. not a great prep for entering the medical field.....
All of his test questions are critical thinking which helps you in the long run if your planning on going into the medical field. You must know the 'why' aspect of things. He gives a LOT of extra credit and is always available during his office hours to help you if you need clarification. Make sure to record his lectures and review his notes too.
He genuinely cares about his students. I felt like I was failing the entire class but he encouraged me to continue, and I do not regret it. I worked so hard to get 75% in his class. I did all the extra credit, never missed a class, and all of my labs were on-time. And somehow I walked away with a B.
Really difficult class but I learnt so much. Glad he pushes us that hard. You get to appreciate it in the end.
Dr. Scott teaches from a creationist perspective, makes misogynistic comments during lecture, and teaches numerous things that are scientifically false (e.g. that random mutations do not happen, that mercury in vaccines harm kids). If you get stuck in his class due to scheduling issues, fact-check his lectures and get your info from the textbook.
Absolutely Ridiculous. He's not accessible outside of class. Doesn't return emails or calls. Says scientific/medical "facts" that are not true. His grading is ridiculous. His exams are even more ridiculous. Class ended 3 weeks ago and we still haven't received our grade. And he avoids you at all cost. Not a reliable professor. At least he's nice.
The lectures are straight forward, but make sure to take notes. Remember the names and properties of specific microorganisms. The exams are beyond challenging; he says they are critical thinking, but I would describe them as abstract. He is very approachable and willing to explain things again. He expects excellence; not an easy A.
Very unclear with his grading criteria. The class average was so low, he said he grades on a curve and drops the lowest test score.. His exams are hypothetical and difficult to understand. Goes on tangents in lectures. Does not post grades on canvas. Final exam is 5 essays that he never gives back and claims he only grades one. Horrible teacher.
Professor Scott is extremely intelligent in his field & makes lecture enjoyable. Exams make your overall grade, but it is extremely difficult, hypothetical, & unclear. If you know your exam grades, you know your grade thus far. He is extremely difficult. I recommend you take if you are proficient in biology/sciences in general.
I never got to take this class!! Although I never did, I'm giving him a difficulty of 5 bc he was SO DIFFICULT to reach via email!! I was #1 on the waitlist since class even started but never got to add bc he wouldn't return my emails asking him for the add code. He shouldn't be teaching if he doesn't respond to emails from students wanting to add.
Dr. Scott is a nice guy and obviously passionate about science, however, this doesn't always translate to being a good teacher. His test are abstract and almost impossible to Ace (highest grade was 82%). He grades on a curve that isn't logical, but necessary. Class ended 6 weeks ago and he still hasn't submitted final grades. Avoid at all cost.
While professor Scott is very nice, this was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. His exams are not reflective of lectures and no way I could figure out answers even if I were to google them. He does not post grades on canvas and takes forever to grade items. He curves heavily, but it depends on how poorly other students do in the class.
Dr. Scott is an amazing person. From his lectures, one can tell that he is truly passionate about this field and has extensive knowledge as well as a background within it. His class is not an easy A, it is all about understanding the concept and applying the material to his tests. His tests are interesting meaning they are difficult and different.
Honestly I could write a novel on how bad this professor is. Suffice it to say, worst professor I've ever had. Confusing teaching, unreachable, factually wrong, assigns tons of assignments but doesn't grade or provide feedback, disrespectful of students time and energy. Avoid if possible.
Dr. Scott is a really nice person, funny lecturer, and super patient in office hours. His tests are VERY hard - I think great preparation for careers in healthcare, but challenging. Canvas modules not organized by date which affected me preparing for lecture, and grading takes forever, both of which are rough if you have ADHD like me.
Dr. Scott is a really great professor that helps you learn the material well. However, his tests are extremely hard and require a lot of critical thinking. The tests are not reflective of the lectures so they were always challenging. He takes forever to grade and I didn't know my grade throughout the whole semester because he'd never put them in.
Dr. Scott is a great guy and I learned a ton from his microbiology class. It has high expectations and you will be required to work hard, but the payoff is learning the content from a passionate teacher.
Took this teacher's class through online zoom. Class page is pretty much empty and all of his class items are located in the files tap. I didn't figure that out until like half way through the course. There is no where on the page that it states all class items / papers are located in the files tap. SUPER CONFUSING and CANT REACH TEACHER.
I have learned nothing in this class. Horrible lecturer and his tests include many impossible, made up scenarios that don't help you learn how to apply information. Extremely disorganized. The labs are pointless busy work. The highest score for his exams is around 60% - that should be enough for him to realize his method of teaching is NOT good.
Dr. Steven Scott has been one of the best professors I've have taken. Great lectures, he makes sure all his students understand. Test heavy, 3 midterms, 1 final and two lab exams test. Lab simulations/Lab reports and three essays is really all the things due in the class. No actual homework to be turned in every week. Take him!
this class was a mess. class was canceled more than once a month. tests had no correlation to what we went over in class. he does not give feedback. he rarely answers e-mails. I would wake up early to get to his scheduled office hours and he would not show up. he did not know how to teach this class. I truly do not understand the positive reviews.
Great Class with Dr.Stevn Scott. Tests were impossible, but he understands that they can be challenging; he offers a lot of extra credit and drops your lowest test score at the end of the semester. Just do all the extra credit, study as much as possible, and you'll be fine! He Curves the grades, so you might think you're failing but you're not :)
You will have about 3-4 labs due about every 2 weeks and have to read bout 2 - 3 chapters in that same time frame. Dr. Scott gives great lectures! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to answer. He wants to make sure you understand the material. The tests are a little challenging but he drops the lowest score at the end of the semester.
This class was by far the most challenging I have ever taken. His format for the online class takes some getting used to. All tests are curved generously. You will not be able to anticipate your grades as canvas does not account for a final curve. Do all extra credit and push yourself and you will get the grade you work for.
Do not take this class. Grades were curved on the 'steven scott curve', not any shared calculable curve, & no one knew their grade until semester ended. Tests were WICKED hard and covered data not discussed in lecture or lab. He didn't discuss anything in lab aside from safety instructions. This class sucked my sanity from me.
This is a self-learn class. If you do not have a strong background in physiology, do NOT take this class from him. I have learned almost zero to nothing from attending lectures. By the end of the semester, more than half the Zoom lecture consisted of watching YouTube videos through his shared screen. He's a nice guy, but a terrible professor.
ADN students that don't have a choice--you're cooked. Exams ridiculously hard and did not match lectures. Grading rubric inconsistent.
I took physiology over the summer because I failed it in my 4yr and it was a tough class since it was 6 weeks but it was duable. He is super nice and sweet but make sure to ask more questions and youtube helped me a lot. He is also super understanding and I learned a lot more here then my 4yr physio class that I took in college
Do not expect to memorize everything and spit it out during the exam. You need to really have critical thinking in this class because a lot of test questions are not reviewed during class. The most difficult exams! He goes off his own notes for the class. Study on your own or you will fall behind. Expect to fail first exam. Do all the extra credit.
Professor Scott's BIO3 class is no walk in the park, but if you put in the work, you can do well. The tests are challenging, so utilize resources like the textbook, study sessions, and unstuck study to prepare. Overall, a rewarding experience for diligent students.
I was pretty nervous after reading reviews, almost didn't take his class, but I'm glad I did! After the first test, I thought I'd made a terrible mistake by taking his class. The reviews are true - his tests are hard. The questions can be worded in confusing ways, but his curve makes up for it. It's a fascinating class, and he is funny and cares!
Professor Scott was amazing. I had to retake physiology bc I failed it at my 4 yr and I took this class in the summer. Exams are hard, he drops 1 exam and lets u use a cheat sheet. 2 lab exams 4 lectures and 1 presentation. AND A CURVE! Never makes you feel dumb for asking and he's so helpful and very patient. TAKE HIM!
I was worried when I first came on here and saw Dr Scott's reviews, but I'm glad I took the class. He genuinely cares about his students and wants y'all to do good. Yes, it's a rigorous course, but he's a great teacher and is interested in what he's teaching, so he makes sure everyone understands.
Tough class but Dr Scott was amazing
THE WORST professor I have ever taken a course from. Very unorganized canvas page, lectures are just mainly YouTube videos, unclear grading criteria, and non-constructive feedback. If you go to his office hours he will literally tell you that you just read the question wrong. Avoid him at all costs take classes with another professor if you can.
