easy teacher, attendence not penalized. Tries to give you easy tests
Drops lowest grade on pretty much everything. Will answer questions that are shown up on quizes and tests.
cute in a hot nerdy way. Very good teacher
I hated this guy, he basically didn't give a damn for the class. He wasn't that great clarifying certain materials.
Never even attempts to learn students names. Never checks homeworks either. Has a lot of quizzes and tests with only a few questions, but is an easy grader.
He's like strictly business and doesn't even attempt to talk to the class or make small talk about anything but math. Good teacher. Fare grader- gives a lot of partial credit on tests. Tests and quizzes are really short so each question is worth a lot. Teaches useful material for life.
made advanced class relatively easy. doesnt grade homework, but goes over in class. funny guy and interesting class. not strict or boring, but lets us talk or goof around whenever. Gives three test and a quiz every week or so. Fair grader. drops lowest quiz. Gives lots of partial credit. good guy
Excellent math teacher and really nice. I enjoyed taking his class.
He math class is easy and he is easy on the eye.
I thought that he was interesting and gave easy tests. I enjoyed being in his class.
Homework is a must Real nice guy and is VERY helpful one on one which you'll have to do because the class moves insanely fast and real difficult DO THE HOMEWORK DONT BE FOOLED CUZ HE DOESNT CHECK, ITS ESSENTIAL. Make sure you go to him for help that helps as well. Madd nice guy I would def reccomend
Awesome guy, very cool and funny. Homeworks (for this class) were all theory. Very, VERY, hard homework but he has study sessions where he basically gives you the answers to the homework. Tests are easy. Class lectures can get very confusing, but then the study sesions make up for it.
Real nice guy, funny. Fastmoving class with hard homework, but easy takes make up for it. He's very helpful one on one. I rec him as a teacher.
I loved this class. The teacher is excellent. He is someone I would recommend because he is funny and not bad to look at.
Not only does this Professor know his material,he is always available during his extra hours. The course is hard, but with this professor you get review sheets for all the tests which help with the final.
awesome professor. lots of work but tests are fair.
prof. Warner is the smartest math professor I've ever met. He teaches math so well. He makes calculus so easy to learn. If you take this teacher don't ever miss his class. He is also hot.

He is so nice and I think he is one of the best for math. there are quizzes almost every week. If you do the homework you will be fine. If you hate math like me, go to the math tutoring center and they'll make it so much clearer. He rarely takes attendence and does not collect hws
Excellent and funny math teacher. Very hot
No Comments
1) Everyone says he's hot. He's not. 2) He has about as much personality as a sponge. 3) Very unhelpful. 4) Obnoxious sarcastic undertone. 5) Don't take the class.
This was the worste professor I have ever had at Hofstra. He was completely unhelpful! He puts about 7 questions on his exams so if you get only a couple wrong, your grade is really low. He doesn't care if the class understands the material or not, he just keeps moving on to other topics. Dont take this professor!!!
i think prof. warner is the best teacher i ever had. he is good to look at and has a great physique. girls take this class
Excellent professor. I enjoyed his class. He is funny and keeps the class interested.
Very good teacher. I enjoyed the class and got a lot out of it. He makes math interesting and he has a good sense of humor

He's a handsome and helpful!! The class is tough because the whole concept of writing proofs takes getting used to but I liked the class nevertheless. Don't take if you're not a Math major/minor.
I hated math before his class.. He was very clear and made the class run smoothly. A quiz once a week or so and 4 tests... he drops the lowest test grade and never collects the HW... Highly Recommended from me!!
I did really well in this class in highschool. I had a very difficult time in this class, he is very unclear in his teaching and doesn't really answer students questions. Nice guy and doesn't check homework, but tests are hard. You need to really study for them.
hes a great guy, i did really well i this class in high school but i was unpepared going into his class. I was able to talk to him about and was always very supportive and helpful. His class can be tough but he s always very helpful. great guy
sucha sweetheart... one of those professors u have a crush on haha. gives only 3 tests plus final, but if u get an average of 95 on the 3 tests you dont have to take the final =] he explains the roots of everything so the numbers and formulas are clear as to where they came from. pick him.
His a great teacher, but Calc over the summer WAS NUTS, but if you had to take it with anyone take it with him. Guy his a genuis + his arms are JACKED! Overall one of the best math teachers I have had-- 3 tests and a final IN THE SUMMER so it was a very very very tough class to take during the summer- got a B which I will take in this insane cla
Guy is the best math teacher I ever had-- His calc classes are very serious and tough But if you put in the work he will help you out. Again-- Best math teacher I ever had.
Warner is a cool guy. He runs the class in a structured style. Do all of your work and you will be just fine.
Very very very easy going, hardly ever do any work but you pay for it when the tests come around. You make math presentations every couple classes, so if you don't like public speaking this class is not for you. He's a nice guy but kinda seems like he hates teaching.
Warner is the man.Class is structured, homework review, chapter notes and then when u finish a section you do the homework on the syllabus. 3 tests, several 2 question quizzes. He's a chill guy and if you do the homework with an honest effort you'll do sick. Curves the tests too!
Unhelpful and condescending.
Awesome guy. Explains really well. goes a little too fast but then again theres so much to cover. if you aren't a bum take him.(p.s. where is this guy's chiili pepper)
best teacher ever :)
He moves really fats like any math class at Hofstra. He just frustrated when you ask questions but that is just because he has to slow down he will answer your questions. He is very good at explaining the problems and it always clicks when he goes over it. Take him
Excellent teacher. Really knows his math. I loved his class. I recommend that you take him.
He's a nice guy, but I get the feeling he's not built for teaching. He doesn't always explain things in a simple way. He tries, but he can't. He'll try his best to explain things when you ask him. If you're good at math, he's okay, but if you're not you'll have a really hard time.
Great teacher and really nice. I recommend that you take his class.
best math teacher I ever had :)
Excellent teacher. He really knows his math. I recommend you take his class.
This math teacher really knows his stuff. I am not the best math student but learned a lot in his class. Take him.
This teacher is very good. He is very thorough and clear and if you need help he is there for you. Sometimes he has to go a little fast but even though the class is not easy I did prfetty good. well. I would highly recommend him.
he goes very fast and definitely not help in class. I love math but you might want to find another teacher or go to tutoring center. Textbook was written by another hofstra instructor and was full of errors, useless examples, and will not help you so find an additional text for reference. He curves so that helps since most of the class is clueless.
I felt as if I taught myself set theory. The textbook was useless and most of the time the class stared at him clueless. He is a very difficult teacher and isn't very clear, but he does have an unbelievable amount of patience. I never worked harder in my life in this class. You must work hard for a grade over a B but he won't fail you either.
The class was incredibly difficult, but he is very patient and willing to re-explain things during office hours. I didnt do as well as I had hoped in his class, but now that I've finished linear algebra i feel like his class was very helpful, as frustrating as it was.
class average for the first test was a 30, enough said.
He's a great professor. One of the few math teachers in my life that goes step by step in explaining questions. His quizes are based on the HW. He also answers all your questions and will go over anything you have trouble in class.
Warner means, but even though I did well, I found his class incredibly difficult. His teaching is very unclear and his tests are short, with each question is worth a lot of points. One day a student asked why he did a certain step and he said, "that's just how I do it…" If you are looking for someone to genuinely teach, I would not recommend him.
Warner is a great professor. He's always clear and really willing to help if you have any trouble understanding and he'll explain it over and over until you get it. The homework isn't required, but you will only do well if you do it.
This is by far one of the worst teachers i have had in my time at hofstra. There is little help when it comes to learning the materiel. Every week your expected to teach yourself the learning units that is assigned which is fine if the text book provided actually helped you learn. If you take calculus, avoid this professor!
Good professor, had him for calc 3. Fairly straightforward, doesn't bother to go too in depth into information unless you ask, which can be a pain for Math Majors. Calm, relaxed atmosphere, always lets us out a half hour early or more. Not many quizzes tests and they are easy if you do the hw. Would recommend overall.
He's overall a really good professor. He would just teach, give the homework, and let us know when we had a quiz (3) or a test (2, not including the final). He did take attendance, but would let us out early. Book was necessary for homework. If you do well on the final, you get an A. He is willing to help if you go to him during his office hours.
He's not very good at teaching, and it becomes more apparent later on in the semester. If you're good at math you might be able to understand the material but if not, you're gonna be completely lost. I'd say if another professor is offering the same course, take himher instead. There are certainly better professors out there.
He's really bad at teaching so you have to teach yourself. I didn't get the best grades on tests all semester-like in the 80s, but I ended up with an A so I think he likes to just give people good grades.
Just a great professor, answer any question you have and I really recommend him. Not that kind of professor will make it heavy on you. Just show up and study and you will get an A. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Dr. Warner uses smartboard to give lectures and posts them on Blackboard & goes over HW in class. He also gives review sheets for the 3 exams and final, where most of the questions are similar to the review sheet. If you manage to get a 90 or higher on the final, you get an automatic A for the class, which happened with me.
If you can take someone else for 114, I hear that's advisable. I didn't learn that much being in the class, but he challenged me. The highest grade on the midterm was in the 80s, and the average was 40. Taught us a lot beyond the scope of the class. Somehow ended up with an A anyway, and I know a couple of others too.
Thorough explanation of the course materials. Easy on the eyes
He made intro to higher math INSANELY difficult. That being said, I am now taking both Abstract Algebra and Real Analysis, and in hindsight he set a really great foundation.
He's a great professor. Just show up to class, copy notes, and make sure you understand the examples . Whatever he does in class and review sheets will be on the test. Can be confusing if you don't understand math, but he's open to answering questions. Let's the class choose if they want quizzes and let's the class choose test dates.
He lectures really fast and skips a lot of steps when he is showing you how to do problems so it is hard to keep up because he does not write down what he did and he does a lot of steps to a problem at once. Gives you a set of homework problems, but does not grade them so if your doing something wrong every time you won't know. Not a great teacher
you have two routes: get a 95+ on the two midterms for an auto A without the final. Or just get an A on the final, and you get an A in the class. There's homework, but it's optional. If you don't do it, you won't do well. Very straightforward class.
Very easy to get an A in this class. As long as you show up and do the homework, you should do very well. A few quizzes, 2 tests, and a final. His lectures were very laidback and he always answers students' questions clearly and enthusiastically. If I could, I would take every one of Dr. Warner's classes. I highly recommend him!
Does not like to explain things in detail. Also, his website is useless!!! Not only does it contain nothing pertinent to his classes or his availability (like office hours), it automatically links to his commercial site where he peddles his test-prep books -very unprofessional - I do not know how Hofstra allows that!!!
Higher level math majors LOVE Warner, but everyone in lower levels HATE him. He doesnt teach as much as he tells you youre wrong and does the problem for you. Will knock off points if he wouldve written it differently. Uses HIS textbook and makes you do that 24/7. Can never get ahold of him and doesnt seem to care how you do. Forgets its Math30
Where to begin? This class was a nightmare. To start, I believe Dr. Warner is very smart and passionate about math. However, he teaches higher levels and was not willing to alter himself for undergraduates WITHOUT math majors/math backgrounds. We had to use his textbook as well, which made things MORE confusing. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
He loves to repeat that you will get a "decent grade," but unfortunately it seems that he is content for that to be in the B-C range. The administration will not listen and believes the class is exaggerating his difficulty. Solution? Don't listen when they tell you this is the easy class. Please. Look for another option in MAT30, there are others.
can't understand him, teaches too fast, he wrote the book. he asked a tutor to come into math tutor a couple of days, but i heard from my other classmates that the tutor wasn't available. the other class signed a petition for help but it seems the chair won't do anything. pleasae don't take this class. if you are a math major, you might be fine tho
Teaches very fast and for a higher level than I was prepared for. Uses his own confusing textbook. Really doesn't seem to care whether any of us understand the material, pass, or anything like that. Doesn't explain wrong answers on quizzes and exams. Takes off points if you don't write proofs the way he would write them (like, what???).
This man caused me so much anxiety throughout my entire semester I have not learned a single thing.. this man cannot teach fo his life, let alone explain how to correct your errors... if you can take something else.. do it
I've never written one of these for a professor, but I feel like I need to for Professor Warner. First of all, it shows in his teaching that he loves math. He does, however, tend to be a little easily-frustrated when his students (most of whom haven't done math since HS) cant comprehend. I like him as a guy, but he should stick to math majors.
Good for higher levels, could not understand ANYTHING in the lower level class. He used a textbook he wrote so I couldn't even seek help online or from tutors, because I couldn't clarify WHAT I was learning. To add insult to injury, I just tried to sell back this $40 textbook and was told the bookstore is not accepting them back. Going to go cry.
2 tests and a final. Quizzes but he tells you at least a week beforehand. Quizzes - same as the class examples. Tests are 7-8 questions & exactly like the review sheet but easier. Homework helps you understand the concepts but not really necessary. If you understand the review sheet before the tests, youre fine. Also, hes a lenient grader
I'm a math major and I did not like Warner. He doesn't really connect anything with previous topics and sometimes he wouldn't be able to explain why things work the way they do. He just writes a formula, expects you to remember it and get the correct answer in the test. Two tests and a final. If you get an A in the final you get an A for the class.
This is a hard course if is your first time with proof writing. Read the book before going to class, you will be lost if not.40% of final grade is homework (one proof-writing per week). A midterm and a final (each30%).I went from not being able to catch a word of what he said to having a fair idea of how to figure out a proof by myself. You learn.
If you're not a math major and are an engineer, 1000% take Warner for Calc 3. He is a VERY LENIENT grader. 2 tests and 3-5 quizzes with 1 quiz dropped. If ur test avg is 95% or higher, you're exempt from the final. HW not mandatory and didn't help me really. He keeps the class very laid back and doesn't explain it too well, but plug and chug for A.
Warner was pretty okay compared to most math professors here at Hofstra. That said, he was unhelpful and slightly rude when students would ask him questions about things they did not understand. He would always let class go about an hour early which was nice but like.. what am I paying for then? He scaled the tests up a good amount though.
I did terrible in MATH 71 and 72 but got an A for 73. He writes the notes and puts them on Blackboard. Super smart guy. 2 tests and a Final. Some quizzes He made the 2nd test-optional cuz he canceled the test 3 times in a row. if ur final grade is more than your overall, the final exam is your grade for the class. Tests are easier than homework.
His lectures were basically a coverage of his book Pure Math for Beginners (ch1-6). The proofs are doable in the beginning. Towards the end of the course, Warner skipped complex analysis and linear algebra to do more advanced set theory (ch10) for the last few lectures. If you have any questions, he is very helpful in answering them.
Homework is not checked or graded! Your grade is based on a few quizzes and tests. Hes not good at showing the intuition behind the formulas, and doesnt use software to better show 3D graphs. Theres no PowerPoint, he types the notes as he lectures. Small classroom and being a morning class made it a boring experience to attend each lecture.
I have never written one of these before but this class was so difficult I needed to write one. There were 3 quizzes and a final which were our only grades the entire semester. The content is quite confusing, and you are going to have to teach yourself most of the time. This class is not for beginners like me. Take something else if you can!
This class crushed me, Warner has a very laidback teaching style and can be an enjoyable class, however, his notes are CHICKEN SCRATCH, I could barely understand anything he wrote after (and during) class, was not able to convey the information. I really like him as a person, he's the type of person you'd want as a dad, but as a prof just avoid
The first test he gave us a bunch of review problems to study, and 3/7 questions on the test were not in the review problems so be warned. If you aren't a math major, his method of teaching isn't really for you. He doesn't explain how to do problems before he asks you to do them (he wants you to figure them out from a mathematician's standpoint).
Lessons are pretty straightforward, powerpoints that he prepares before class & 99% typed. Goes over HW questions. Online quizzes were hard no partial credit. Said that review problems don't cover everything that might be on the exam & no cheat sheet. Not a bad class as long as you study, what you expect for university level. Very understanding.
He's pretty nice and flexible in his approach to teaching. Lectures are mostly him going over a concept and then working through problems. Tests can be tough but the style of problems is usually similar to HW. Don't have to take the final if you have an A on the other tests. Not a math major so the content wasn't interesting, but good professor.
Dude has a huge ego, makes you buy his textbook then the class is just him reading from it in PowerPoint form. It was an ENTRY level course and he taught us like we had already studied this stuff when I have never heard of it before. The only kids that did well were people who were familiar with pure math. Save yourself.
So sweet, easy class if you pay attention or are already good at math. He'll help you with literally anything you need even its outside of his office hours. He also reallyyyy knows what he's talking about. also total dilf
Nice guy but I would NOT recommend him for math030! He really knows his stuff but is TERRIBLE at communicating these concepts to beginners. He makes you buy his own textbook and then only reads the book to you in class. Literally doesn't add any new commentary which I found pretty annoying.
Uses his own textbook so if you don't understand him, you won't understand the textbook. Taught the material at a more difficult level then I think was needed.
Professor Warner is a pretty nice guy and good teacher. He goes very slowly to make sure that everyone understands the material, which I really appreciate.
He just lectures on screenshots from his textbook. This class is for "pre-beginners" but the material is really hard, coming from someone who hasn't taken a math class in 3 years. The lectures are monotonous and there isn't any class participation.
Pretty meh class. Professor lectures through PowerPoints and requires WebAssign for homework and quizzes, and lectures can be confusing. Very few exams, usually not very long. The professor does not discourage questions, though his answers can leave much to be desired at times. Not a terrible professor, but look around some more before picking him.
He is a nice professor. However, he completely read off the textbook for the whole class. His lectures were boring and some concepts were not explained well which ended up in me having to teach myself half of the content before the final. Tests are quick and if you understand the material are pretty easy. Don't take unless necessary.
This guy know what he's talking about in terms of mathematics, and he's a decent guy. The problem with his class is that he went over the topics so fast that it hard to comprehend the units. When you did ask question about the problems we worked on, he would still give convoluted answers that took a while to dissect. Good guy; hard to comprehend
His textbook is poorly formatted and difficult to follow, and the lectures equally so. Entire grade rides on nothing but a couple of homeworks and two exams. Average on the first exam was in the 40s, highest grade in the 60s and no curve. No open office hours, and does not follow a syllabus or post notes, assignments, grading criteria or due dates.
Don't take it unless you want to be teaching yourself the lessons. The textbook is his book and the presentations/lectures in class are copied and pasted from the textbook. Homework is just problems from the book but if you don't understand the lessons you won't get anywhere. Also, there's no tutor for the class because no one wants the job.
If you're looking for a class that the professor doesn't actually teach, rather just reads the textbook in PowerPoint form and not teaching this is for you. He's a nice person, but considering Hofstra's tuition this is not what students deserve, they deserve to actually be taught. If you actually want a professor who actually teaches avoid him.
This professor is a very smart person but struggles to explain information, he tends to overcomplicate the explanations, leaving you even more confused. He only has 2 exams, midterm with 8-10 questions, and a final with around 16 questions. There is no curve or extra credit opportunities making it very difficult to pass.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR YOU WILL REGRET IT !!! I have never in my life had a more confusing math professor, the class average on the first exam was like a 50, its graded based on only two exams, he is inaccessible outside of, before, or after class, and he gets his slides right from the textbook. You deserve better for the price of this school.
This man doesn't know how to teach whatsoever. All he would do during class is first go over the HW, read the textbook to the class (in PPT form), ask us to do examples before he shows us how to do them, and then dismiss the class. And when we have questions, he would give complex answers that are hard to understand. Just stay away no matter what.
I loved prof Warner!!!! I told him first day of class I am not a good math student and I have awful test anxiety. He explained everything very well and he was great at answering students questions. He helped me out so much studying for the final. I have so much respect for him and how much he helped me in my situation!! 110% would retake his class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. As someone who did very well in precalc in HS, I cannot stress this enough DON'T take this class with him. His teaching is very confusing and is terrible at explaining concepts for us as students to understand well. I got an A in Precalc in HS and yet got a B in this class cuz his method of teaching is very confusing.
Do not take this class unless u want to learn nothing. Professor warner makes slides based on the textbook and doesn't explain anything well, he will legit yap throughout lecture, saying a whole lot of nothing and u will just be confused. Save yourself the trouble and do not take his class
Easiest MATH distribution as a performing arts major. Entire semester covers only 3 chapters. Exam and HW turned in at the end of each chapter. Grade composed of 3 exams, 3 HWs. I never had to answer once in class to still get my A. Very straightforward and easy A. Would definitely recommend to anybody needing their MATH credit!
Reads from online TB, which he made you buy for $100, the ENTIRE period. If you do well on the homework/quizzes, you'll be fine but the grading criteria isn't clear at all. Only 2 exams and they are short and easy. No participation encouraged, just came in and zoned out for 2 hours. Bad prof. but nice guy and means well. Learned absolutely nothing.
I do not think he has bad intent, he does seem like a genuinely smart and caring guy. But, how he teaches is incredibly confusing. If you ask questions he will just make it even more confusing. I had to teach myself through outside sources as he gives you a textbook he made himself. Class consists of him reading off a textbook. Never again
