Dr. Whitten is Brilliant, He is a must have for English Majors and Drama Majors- However - beware you must be Perfect for Whitten on your out of class paper- He will bury you alive for grammar mistakes. If you pass the paper the class is not to hard.

Dr. Whitton is a brilliant man and a good teacher. I think he's anti-fraternity/sorority, so if you're a part of the Greek system, be prepared to be p***ed off. I certainly was. He is a good teacher, however.

If you're taking Honors comp., take it with Whitton. Prof. Whitton is the most valuable professor in the English department to have on your transcript.

A lot of fun. 101H writing is mostly about yourself. 102H writing is more about literature. Gives back papers ungraded with marks on them so it's easy to correct. Turn in 2 papers at midterm then 2 at finals. Loved his class.

Excellent professor. Tough on you, but only to make you better than you are. Grades on your writing are based on your abilities. I will take every class he offers.

Made reading fun... i hate reading... lots of grades do it allows you to screw up on a few... will take anyones opinion on the stories... loves his job... open minded and focused... i'd take him again.

Dr. Whitton always put effort into giving his students all the help that they seek. His cynicism makes the class very fun as well.

Yes, you have to read..it's an English class! Very valuable information taught. Awesome man. He actually cares about his students and wants them to learn. We even ate breakfast at his house on morning. He is a reason I chose to major in English!

Overall: Great teacher. Self proclaimed smart-ass (lol), but in a good way. Funny guy. Very likeable. Easy to understand him. Fairly leniant. However, you will have to work in his class. Word of advice: don't procrastinate on the final (Researched essay).

Dr. Whitton is a very nice man. He is a smartass most of the time, but he is always willing to meet with you if you have any questions or concerns. He doesn't take any crap but if you don't give any, he is really nice. I loved taking him myself.

Dr. Whitton is one of the best English professors I've ever been taught by. Do not take his class if you do not want to read (It's an English class for God's sake!), but aside from that expect to have fun. He's a smartass and appreciates class comments during the lectures.

Yeah...just listen in class and remember what he says, read what you have to read, and you're fine. I would have rated him higher but American Lit just isnt that interesting a subject to me. But, he is a great teacher. He taught my high school english teacher in college, and she is the best teacher I ever had! I see why she became so good.

Dr. Whitton was, by far, my favorite professor in college. I hope that I can be half the teacher he is one day. Kudos Whitton!

An excellent professor with a great range of knowledge and a very enjoyable lecture format. Not a professor for those seeking an easy A, but his expectations are hardly that unfair. If you're willing to work and put forth some effort, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Highly recommended - one of my favorites!

i am taking him for the first time this semester. he is awesome. he's giving what would normally be relatively boring material a twist thanks to having a sense of humor. much more than that he has high expectations, or so it seems, and makes sure everyone understands before moving on.

Honors English Composition is a blast if you like to write. He'll read any paper you give him as many times as you want him to. if you have to take EH 103 SIGN UP FOR HIS CLASS.

We had 10 books to read, and quizzes every class period. His tests were hard, as they were 2 questions that were 50 points a piece. Also, there's a paper, on an independent novel, but that is due towards the end of the semester. Read the assignments, take good notes, and write a good paper will get you at least a B.

I had him for two semesters of my first year in college and at the begining he seemed tough. but if you show up to all classes and complete all the work, you'll do good. sometimes he gets a little boring, but mostly it's kind of interesting and not as bad. also he allows drafts before grading!

He is a very intelligent man! His classes are always fun. There IS a WHOLE LOT of writing... Like a paper per class meeting. But he doesn't grade any of them and he lets you redo the papers he does grade like three times.

Obviously very passionate about literature, and that helps make American Lit a little more bearable (though I wish he'd pretend the Separatists never existed). You HAVE to read, it's a LIT class. Try to be a favorite; it helps. Put your game face on if you plan to speak up in class cuz he can be brutal. Your opinion is always secondary to his.

He's a very good and interestind teacher. If you take notes about the stories when he goes over them then you will do fine. Watch out because he can be rude!

Very nice professor. Will help you with anything you need and truly enjoys teaching English. A bit harsh on his grading but since you have a month and a half to revise your papers, you should have no excuse for them being bad.

Dr.Whitton is a very good teacher. He might be a little intimidating at first, but is willing to help you and encourages you to come by his office for help with your papers. As long as you try your best you will do fine.

He made a lot of the reading more interesting with his lectures, he wasn't all that hard, and he really dug my writing, so I remember this guy fondly. Always helpful and clear.

He is one of the hardest English professors I have ever had. I personally found him to be extremely boring and he is a very harsh grader. The reading assignments were very dull and he got angry all the time. I disliked his class.

I am obsessed with Dr. Whitton! If I could take him for biology, history, or math I would. He's the best teacher I've ever had, and he makes the class so interesting. IF you have the opportunity to take his class, you better!!

He is very helpful and you write almost all papers in class. He will let you re write your papers if you are unhappy with your grade. He does tend to ramble, but he is an awesome teacher and knows what he is talking about.

I took American Drama with Dr. Whitton. He is incredibly smart and he knows his material. This was not an easy class for me, but definitely interesting and challenging. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of drama.

Dr. Whitton is an excellent instructor. He is clear about what he expects from his students and does a good job making the material interesting. However, you will have to work hard if you want to earn an A in this class. Overall, I would recommend him to anyone.

Going into this class, I was scared because of some of the reviews on here and because it was an honors class. It didn't take long for me to form my own opinion. He is one of my FAVORITE teachers. He is passionate about the subject and really wants to hear your interpretation. He WANTS a good argument. Just go to class and listen and you will pass.

I have loved Dr. Whitton! He is very friendly and has a good sense of humor, but is very clear in his expectations and a fairly tough grader (especially on grammar.) He is extremely helpful, and always invites you to take advantage of his office hours if you need any help. Although if you do not like writing essays I would not recommend his class.

I LOVED Mr. Whitton's class. He is hilarious, will help you, and cares about his students. Don't get offended if he picks on you a little, he just does it because he likes you! The class consists of writing two-page papers, a few vocabulary tests, and reading. You will need Back to the Lake! I definitely recommend his class.

I had Whitton for EH104 and I absolutely love this teacher! He really cares about you and your grade. He works with you and he really cares if you learn! He is a fantastic teacher and I would recomend him to anyone taking a course he teaches! I would definitely take this class with him again!

Dr. Whitton is a great English Professor. You should be prepared to work because there is at least an essay every week in his English Composition class. If you display to him that you are a hard worker, he will be behind you every step of the way. His topics are very specific and he requires that you stay within his guidelines.

Dr. Whitton was, without a doubt, my favorite professor. We had to write an essay every week, but he would help you every step of the way. As long as you came to class and respected him, he would help you as best he could. There is no other English professor I'd rather have.

Dr. Whitton is an amazing professor. I enjoyed every moment of his class. He's funny, caring, but always makes sure you get your work done and that you do it well. He can seem difficult, but as long as you're confident in your writing style, you'll have no issues passing his class. He's always willing to help and his class is thoughtful and smart.

Favorite professor! was big on grammar. But was very helpful. Different essay almost every week, but was very helpful. Did almost the whole thing in class. No homework except rough draft on essays. Those who had bad grammar didnt like him, but as long as you didnt make any grammar mistakes and had a decent essay, you got a good grade.

I have taken Dr. Whitton for two semesters now, and I've enjoyed his classes very much. He is definitely a tough grader, especially when it comes to grammar. Mostly, he's easy to please as far as the content of the paper, but the grammar becomes an issue for most people. If you're a good writer, though, you'll do fine! LOTS of papers though!

Dr. Whitton is my favorite professor. He is also a very nice person with interesting stories. The works selected for this class are wonderful and his lectures are phenomenal. Read and connect with the works! He ties them together in a meaningful way, making you really think about them and their significance not only in literature but in life.

Dr. Whitton is a great person. He stepped up and sponsored our "chapter" of Delta Tau Chi in 1978. We still go to Homecoming every year since.
