took forever to grade work, study sheets did not match test info
Demanding, but fair. Obviously loves his subject, and made the class fun and enjoyable. Lectures were always clear and well-organized. Excellent instructor!
I took seven geography classes with Steve. He's a great guy and an excellent teacher. He put up with a lot of BS from immature, disruptive students. He is helpful, understanding...but firm in his deadlines and rules. Five Stars!
I TOOK STEVE'S GEOGRAPHY CLASS ONLINE, IT WAS A CRASH COURSE, 5 WEEKS. I GOT A BIT OF A LATE START (3 DAYS). IT WAS TOUGH TO CATCH UP BUT I DID. STEVE IS VERY RIGID WITH HIS DUE DATES BUT THATS HOW IT HAS TO BE. I REALLY ENJOYED THE CLASS AND STEVE. JB
It is very obvious that Steve LOVES geography! Having a teacher that passionate about what he is teaching makes it a joy to learn, even if you don't care for the subject. I just graduated (today in fact) and Steve has got to be the most orginized teacher I have ever, EVER had. He made it so easy for us to get good information in a useful format.
Class is very easy if you attend class and take notes from his lectures which are alway power point presentations. He does that same term project for each class. DO NOT put it off until the week it is due. The project is easy, but very time consuming.
I've taken three clases from Steve Wolfe ... I love his teaching style, desire to see you succeed, and his extensive use of multimedia equipment.
Extremely boring, but ultimately and easy class. If you have to do geography and want a good grade but don't mind being put to sleep, this is a good class to take. The project at the end is huge, but if you work on it every week for an hour, it's a breeze.
This was a pretty dull class, but tests were easy. The only thing I'd recommend to students in GEG 106 is to start the News Project early and not save it for finals week like I did (a ton of work to be done, but it's a large portion of your grade.) I can't imagine Geography being much more interesting though...
A Wolfe in Sheep's clothing, this bible thumper promotes the idea that the grand canyon eroded over night in a flash flood from God. That this Fundie is tenured speaks volumes about the administration of this school.
Mr. Wolfe is a great professor. Very interested in his student's success and willing to help in any way possible. I would recommend taking all of his classes.
I thought Steve was an awesome teacher. He was very helpful, his teaching technique was awesome, and he really really cares about his students success. I took two classes from him this term and think by far that he is one of the best teachers at CCC.
He is a very fair teacher and I learned a lot. He really tries to get to know the students. I think sometimes he put up with a lot of noise and people coming in late. Be sure to get an early start on the term project!
Wolfe is my favorite prof. Anyone who says Steve promotes Christianity should take a few more classes in geomorphology. Perhaps he's the first person who isn't afraid to give geological evidence in his classroom. He is awesome and the only reason I continue to study at CCC. Besides being a fair and insightful teacher, he is a great person. A+
Steven Wolfe has been by far the worst instructor I have had. He never replied to questions, never updated the syllabus leaving a bunk due date list. His comments to assignments were what I thought to be demeening and flat out rude. I would never take another one of his classes. I worked my butt off, completed all work and he gave me a D. Beware!!!
He is a really nice guy who is obviously VERY interested in what he does. I feel bad for hating this class as much as I did. FYI DO NOT put your term project off until the day before it is due!!! I know for a FACT that is cannot be done in a day and a half!!! WARNING!
Reasonable amount of reading & work expected. Online class instructions very clear. Book was interesting.
Clear and articulate. Three visual aids plus the laser pointer. Pay attention in class. Do the easy extra credits. Work the project weekly for an hour; Search refugee w/current month. Do not buy the textbook. Go to the library with the study guides posted online for midterm and final; use the text they have in the library. A all the way.
I have taken two classes from Mr. Wolfe. I really appreciate his clarity about assignments and due dates - if you take a look at the syllabus, you'll do fine. He is one of the most respectful and understanding professors I have had so far at Chemeketa. Do start the notebook project before the due date though!
Mr. Wolfe is a great teacher! This class has a relaxing atmosphere, and you really learn a lot! There arn't tons of assignments, but you do still need to study to do well. Mr. Wolfe really knows his geography, and I would certainly recommend his class if you want to learn more about geography!
Amazing professor. He knows the material and makes it interesting with anecdotes and hundreds of pictures he's taken in his travels of Oregon. A great thing about his style: he uses three different projectors with all three screens down simultaneously (powerpoint, pictures, and overhead). It was a wonderful class.
Awesome instructor! Learned more in this class than any other! Triple the visuals, triple the learning capacity! Start term project first week of term, finish early! I needed the book to solidify the concepts introduced in the lectures. Amazing class!! Passionate, accurate, current, relevant! Great :)
If you do not like Geography, do not take this class. Although it's easy, you will bore yourself to death. Mr. Wolfe is a great teacher and is well-organized. I got a "B" in the online course, only because I wasn't too interested in Geography to begin with. Everything is easy, as long as you're organized, and as long as you skim the readings.
Great teacher if you need a geography class i'd recommend this one. His work was resonable, he was lenient and he didn't expect anything more than what you are assigned.
This class was the HARDEST class I have taken. He teaches by powerpoint and just reads it off in a monotone voice. He bored me to death. He is STUCK IN THE 90'S. every single video and source he uses are from the 1990's... hello it's 2010. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLASS. if you like geography maybe but if you have no interset DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
this teacher is boring to death, u can fall asleep in his class and all you do is listen to what he says, boring boring
Soooo boring. He doesn't start giving information on a basic level, but goes in to detail about topics, sometimes for an hour, using more information than you could possibly retain even if you took the same class 10 times.. unless you already have a masters in Geography. He obviously knows what he's talking about, but doesn't teach in a dynamic way
I took this class online and found it to be quite easy. As long as you're an independent worker you'll be fine. He doesn't sign online very often and is very delayed in grading, but it is an easy A otherwise. I've taken 3 classes from him and would take another!
SLOW GRADER, literally takes him 6+ weeks to grade easy assignments. This class is easy though, and full of busy work. Easy A, but not a good Prof. He doesn't have interaction with the class, really odd.
Amazing Teacher! I took 8 different courses from him. Key to success in his classes, take advantage of extra-credit. His classes are usually only 250 pts total & he offers 20 pts in extra credit! Print off the slides & highlight the info. Use the online map quizes I made to pass the map tests. After 30 min of online quizin youll ace the test
Really good teacher, has a passion for geography. Very good and easy teaching style, lecturing while using the old overhead projector, newer projector and a slide show. Hardly used the text, everything you need is in the lectures so attendance is vital. I plan to take another GEG class form him. Recommended.
Really good teacher who's passionate about geography. Come to class, take notes, study your notes and get an A-B. Very good teaching style, he uses the old overhead projector, newer projector and slide show all at once. He really makes it easy to get a good grade. Hardly used the text. I will take other GEG classes from him. Recommend
Excellent teacher, he's been all over Oregon and has pictures from his adventures to help you visualize the landform regions and cultures throughout Oregon. The work is quite easy to pass.
Very dull teacher, and class. He shows, many, old tapes from OPB... enough said. His due dates are often unclear. Also, his online material is very unorganized. Yes, he is very knowledgeable on his subject, but, unfortunately he is a mediocre teacher.
Knows a lot about geography, and is very into topic. Can seem monotone a times, but overall a great teacher. Show up and pay attention and you will do fine. I highly recommend! I am consider taking another class with him just for the heck of it.
LOTS of information dispensed, and if you pay attention, you'll ace the class. Just do the homework and lab work (VERY easy) and all will be well. Prof is very knowledgeable about his field and you'll learn quite a bit from him that you may not have known.
Awesome professor! I had him for Geography 100, 106, 107, 201, 206, & 207. All you have to do succeed is down load the slides and study them. Do your homework and study the notes. Very helpful teacher! Always willing to talk with students. Even after I graduated he still took time to see me and advise me. Fantastic Teacher!
Great professor, extremely organized and clear on expectations. He has a passion for Oregon's geography and climate which is clear in his presentations and lectures. Great teacher, slightly soothing and sleep inducing voice. I would take another of his classes.
Great instructor! Easy to understand, friendly, kind, knowledgeable, passionate, but down to earth. Highly recommend his classes, especially online. Well organized. Easy text-based homework: 2 chap. reading & 1 mult. choice quiz/test per week. Term project was summarizing 10 articles. Only downside...he can be kinda slow grading online work.
He knows the subject very well and teaches well. Very monotone and bland though, also, he reiterates information quite a bit and adds useless and uninteresting tidbits which made keeping myself interested very difficult. Other than that there is nothing bad to say. Good teacher. Don't buy the textbooks though, I never used them.
I've had professor Wolfe for every Geography class that Chemeketa offers. Show up, pay attention, print off the slide show, take notes and do the project and you will ace all of his courses. The professor is very knowledgeable and passionate about geography. Turn in the project early and take advantage of the extra credit opportunities!
I enjoyed the online class. It is well organized, so it runs well on its own. Great for independent students! It is an easy, low stress class. You get to color/label maps of the USA & Canada, which was fun. Final project required some work, but not unreasonable. VERY slow grader.
If you are wanting an engaging and challenging course where you are super excited to learn about Geography, TAKE AN ON CAMPUS COURSE... but if you are looking for a course that is well organized online, don't mind waiting for grades and are fairly independent you will have no problem! Do the reading, and online work and it's a cake walk.
Steven Wolfe is an excellent teacher. He is very straight-forward and organized and makes it clear that he's available if students need help. His tests do require studying on your own time and not just going off his lecture. If you don't do well with lectures you may get bored. I enjoyed his class very much.
This is my 2nd GEG class by Steve. Book is easy to read. Weekly assignments have variety and are not too hard. Midterm, Final exam, plus final project. Slow grader, but gives answer key to check your own work. Willing to help students. Communicates with class. I recommend any class by Steve.
I took his Summer Geography 202 course. It was very organized and straight forward. Any questions that I had were answered in a timely fashion. I will definitely look for him again when I need to take another Geography class!
I'd wish I could finish all the math id have to take with Wolfe. He is one of the best teachers around and will give you various opportunities to succeed.lectures make the homework easy to comprehend class is always packed since everyone wants to be in his class but they're worth coming for even if you have to sit on the floor from the back
Keep up on the reading and you will do well on quizzes and midterms. The project is pretty easy along with homework assignments.
Slowest grader I've ever had. If that bothers you, don't take his stuff. Otherwise very straightforward.
Great instructor and classes! Took 2 of his geography classes. Manageable work load. Weekly read, assignment andor timed quiz. Slow at grading and responding to emails, but Instructions are very clear on assignments with examples. Quiz questions not too direct & bit hard. Must read book in detail! Enjoyed the class and would take again.
He's a solid geography professor. His lectures can be boring, but it's not that he doesn't present interesting information, it's that he's a pretty dry speaker. I'd definitely recommend him as a teacher, though.
He was very clear on what he expected from you. If you go home and study for the tests you'll do well. He has a few quizzes but is clear what is gonna be on them. His lectures can get boring but he's passionate about what he does. Attend the lectures or get the notes, it doesn't matter.
Workload is average, lectures are appropriate length and sufficient content to get the info needed for tests/quizzes. Steve's pretty straight forward with what to expect, and there really are no surprises. Seems like a nice enough guy. A few funny anecdotes here and there, but for the most part he's kind of monotone and boring. Easy A.
Very slow to grade assignments. A couple unfair questions on quizzes and exams were overlooked. When asked about it through email he agreed and said he'd add a point to my total. Never happened, and that same question was on the final.
I took his GEG207 online, probably not the best choice. The class is extremely centered around the book save for the first two assignments. Only one assignment per week based on one chapter, but two ended up being skipped. Midterm and Final questions were straight from the book. Biggest gripe was how long it took him to grade. Otherwise he's okay.
I'm sure he's a good guy in the classroom, but this online class is not very good. This term he was very late and crammed the grading of the midterm and finals into two days before grades were due. With how few assignments there were, you could work hard but then you'd still get an unsatisfactory grade. Not fun.
I enjoy the topic of this class , but I would not give all the credit to him as an instructor as someone who helped teach me. I learned it only myself by reading and doing research alone. I failed my midterm, because of miscommunication, and I did take his class all online. I would recommend taking i class with him, but not online.
U hace taken him several times and it's easy to notice how passionate he is for geography. He emails back quickly and is quick to help if you ask. He can ramble on at times. If you try you can pass. The tests are a little difficult but he doesn't grade harshly.
He is a good instructor, just that he talks forever. The class is okay if you pay attention and take notes you should be fine. The questions on the final are over the notes that you take--so take good notes! He is organized and helps you if you ask for it. I would like to take another class since it is interesting, but probably not from him.
He was not clear with his expectations and waited until the last week to grade everything. I ended up getting an A, but I had no idea where I stood the entire term, which was stressful.
I loved this class. It was a lot of work in that there are labs and map quizzes in addition to exams, and if you skip class, you'll miss the lectures (which is where the bulk of the exam material comes from). However, he has all his lectures online as well and is always available for questions. Great sense of humor and fun stories too.
I took Mr. Wolfe's online class. It wasn't particularly engaging, but it's an easy A if you do the readings and don't miss assignments. The content itself is interesting enough--some parts better than others. My biggest gripe is how long he takes to grade assignments. It was almost the end of the term before he started to catch up on some grading.
I took this class to know more about Geography and it was very interesting. I took this class online and there was a homework assignment every week from a worksheet book and some of the assignments can be difficult, so you have to look in your book. The homework isn't counted that much, but the tests are.
Steven is very knowledgeable about the subject. If you do all of the weekly assignments and readings, you can get an A. Although, the class did go into a lot more depth than I was expecting, so there are some chapters you really do need to read. Tests were based off textbook, powerpoint slides, and worksheets. Midterm and final.
Was not impressed with this class. I took it online, and you have to actually print out the weekly exercises, fill them out and then scan and email them, talk about annoying. He waits until the very last week to grade things so you have no idea what your grade is in the term. Also, be sure you read because the powerpoints don't cover everything.
Loves the material he teaches. Lots of years/experience out in his field. Tho he really pushes the textbooks (don't really need them) and his other classes.
Because of the fact that it was an online class, i didn't hear much from him and it kinda felt like i had to teach the materials to myself. He uses a textbook he wrote for the class and it is very easy to go back and look for the answer during the quizzes. Would recommend if you're into world political science as well.
he was a good teacher. I had him online so we didn't really interact. There was one project though that was kinda big, but if you do it last minute. We had to read a chapter a week and do homework on it witch was generally easy. we had 2 quiz which were easy as well. Also the final was everything after the midterm so that was cool.
By far the worst prof I've ever had. I didn't learn barely anything in this class, and the stuff that I did learn, I taught myself. Most tests did not have questions from the material given. Almost lost my 4.0 GPA over this class. PLEASE don't take it. I would not wish it on my worst enemy.
Overall he isn't a bad teacher. He told us what to study for each Mon. quiz. He accepts late assignments too which can be nice. Lots of reading can be involved & the homework takes alot of time so don't start last minute or close to that. He's helpful & clarifys things if you have questions & is quick at responding to emails. Skip class & u fail
I took GEG105 online in a nonsynchronous class. Your weekly homework is based on readings of the chapters provided on Canvas. It's aggravating that the weekly homework can take me hours to complete but is only worth ten points. This class is test and quiz heavy. He also hasn't graded anything for over a month which is stressful bc idk my grade.
This course was terrible so many exams (quizzes), assignments, and the final exam had random questions that were not covered in the course.
Wolfe quizzes and tests on stuff that is not in the readings or lectures. It is not fair. I emailed him after the term was over to tell him and he responded gruffly. I only got an A because I knew all of the material from my own experience. A lot of other students complained.
It's December and Professor Wolfe still hasn't graded work that was submitted in October. Don't expect to find out how you did on anything (except for the computer-graded quizzes) until the end of the term. Lots of reading. The exercises require you to study new concepts that weren't in the reading you just did. Professor is just not really there.
Steve is a good teacher and the material he provided was very good in terms of having necessary information related to the tests he gives out. The only thing I did not like was how long he took to grade assignments.
Assignments are spaced out and easy to turn in on time. Would be fun if you like to read. Slideshows are really helpful in the class, barely read the textbook. A little bit of a harsh grader.. Not too many assignments so put in effort...
Honestly the only gripe I had was that he takes until the end of the term to grade the assignments. Not a bad professor by any means, just wish I knew what my grade was at sooner that way I could see where I needed to improve before it was too late
I took GEG105 online and was very happy with the structure of this class. Professor Wolfe was great. Expectations were clear, assignments corresponded with text readings, and enough time was allowed for tests/quizzes. Average workload compared to the other courses I've taken over the past four terms.
I had Steven Wolfe for GEO106 Spring 2022. Didn't interact with instructor much as it was an online course.
Did not grade my items until week 9. Then graded them harshly. If he had graded them as we went along I could have adjusted what I was doing to match his grading style. Doesn't seem fair to the student to be a lazy grader and expect people to know what you want when directions weren't that clear to begin with.
He allows you to show up when you like and doesn't grade you negatively for not showing up. He gives good feedback as he grades hard, but the extra credit will balance it out. He gives extra credit if you show up to class. If you have questions, he responds to emails quickly. I'd recommend this course if you're interested in the subject or not
I enjoyed this course for the most part. Weekly reading and exercises with an occasional quiz. I still have not received grades for several assignments, though, so that is frustrating. But otherwise he is a clear and helpful professor.
This class had a very reasonable workload with 1-2 short weekly quizzes on that weeks videos. Everything is all open book and he provides very through study guides weeks before the midterm and final. As far as online goes, you're effectively teaching yourself in this class and I heavily relied on google for filling out the study guides.
Had 105 and 106 with this guy. Not bad but not amazing. Takes so so long to grade
This class was very easy, took 2 test both multiple choice and one project for the final which was also very easy and simple, would totally take this class again the only thing is he is a slow grader.
Ok guys, I am being honest. Professor Wolfe is a pretty good teacher. He doesn't give as much homework but the trick is to do the homework not on the last day but couple days before. You will have two exams, both multiple choice and I big project that isn't too long but will need some time. This class was fairly easy for me! I would recommend!!
This teacher is very good! The class isn't too hard and you will survive! It takes a while for him to grade your assignments but for example, if you let him know about grading in the morning, the by the end of the day your assignments will be graded. This class was pretty chill. I took it online and it was great!! I would recommend it.
Proffessor Wolfe was amazing. I would definitely recommend him. He gives homework but it's seriously not a horrible amount of homework. I liked his class. It is not as hard as I thought it would be.
I've taken geography courses with Steven before, and this was by far one of the easiest classes I've taken. Very straightforward and organized. Weekly work doesn't take much time aside from a few bigger projects. Steven is kind and seems accessible outside of class. Though he takes a while to grade, its understandable with his other obligations.
Guys this class was very fun and not too hard. We were not loaded with homework. The class was easy! definitely recommend!
This teacher was very easy and amazing!!! Definitely recommend!! We only get one homework assignment each week which is very easy to do. and have a midterm and final which are both open book and notes! Literally Amazing,
If you've taken Human Geography in high school, the class will feel mostly like review. I recommend starting the term project early so you can chip away at it throughout the term. Steven was incredibly accommodating and fair. Overall, an enjoyable and relatively easy class.
Very easy class. I would actually say it was too easy and I was frustrated paying almost $700 to take it.
