His lectures are very boring and tend to drag on. He assigns microcases which are tedious and do not relate to the course. His tests are difficult, and cover a lot of material. Make sure to go over the notes AND read the chapters because he doesn't go over everything that is on the test. I also went to him for help and he didn't clarify anything.

Professor French knows his stuff. However, his tests are based on Nicols test but he doesn't grade them the same. Only has a few assignments that are each worth between 10-20% of your grade. Only lectures and it does not help. Will not answer questions or emails. He refuses to meet with students. Gives terrible and vague feedback on assignments and will not elaborate to help you improve. Worst teacher and class I have had a SVSU, would not recommend

Once you figure out what Professor French is looking for in a paper you will be fine. Participation matters in this class! He was very informative and provided feedback when I asked questions. Overall, it was a great experience in this class. He was very straightforward on the grading scale and expectations.

Professor French's class is so confusing and challenging if you don't live politics. Really long and difficult papers and an 8 minute speech at the end of the semester. Doesn't stop to make sure that people understand, just assumes the class already knows this stuff. He is intimidating, but is nice. Wouldn't take class if you don't know politics

PROS AND CONS PROS: -He's pretty easy to get along with. -A pretty understanding teacher who grants extensions to those he sees as in need of them. -Very question friendly -Lectures easy to understand Cons: -Kinda Cinicle -Is very rough on homework. (2000 pagers every few weeks but they aren't that bad)

It is a CI course so expect a lot of work, we wrote 4 2000-word essays, an 8-minute presentation, and a final reflection paper of 1275 words. He is very opinionated. Very unclear and is not at all helpful when you ask questions. He said we are "empty sacs of skin" if we are just in the class for a grade.

Professor French is the most entertaining professor I've ever had. His lectures fly by and are incredibly interesting and egaging. He teaches you a LOT about the real world and relates all of the material to it. Some of the papers can be a bit of a pain due to the required length, but if you don't mind writing this professor is the best!

I am not big on politics or writing papers, but the easier it gets once you do the first 2000-word essay. He offers at least two extra credit opportunities during the semester. I ended up getting an A- and I'm proud of that. If you are willing to do the work, you will do just fine in this course.

Contrary to a different review on Prof. French, I'm conservative and didn't feel offended by him. I felt he is passionate about the facts and the order of of political sciences and keeps emotions mostly removed. The paper writing is INTENSE and I was very intimidated but once we got rolling it was ok. This class made me a more confident writer.

French is a cool dude, very knowledgable on all aspects of the class. Only negative is very lecture heavy, although attendee isn't required and you'll live missing a couple classes, and there's a lot of papers at 2000 words. Doable but long. Overall reccomend

His classes are quite easy. One large paper that you spend over a month preparing for, 3 tests that arent that hard, just a lot of writing. and a couple smaller assignments, but the assignments build into the long paper. Hes really funny when you pay attention, and shares a lot of his personal opinions in class. However, he's caring and a good prof

I am about to graduate, I have had over 20 professors in my college career but yet it takes my final semester of school to create this account to possibly save a few souls from working with this man. Truthfully there is not one redeeming quality about this course or this professor. All he does is complain about our generation and say he hates Trump

I have always been a very understanding individual throughout my life. This guy might genuinely be a insane. If you are white, conservative, christian, or try to correct him when he's wrong... just expect to never hear the end of it. Quite frankly, he should never be allowed to teach anyone ever again. Indoctrination 101 with this clown.

Dr. French is an interesting to say the least. He gives “lectures” that are more about his opinions and less about the material, then expects you to write large papers on the material he failed to teach you. Very disrespectful towards students and openly views them as lower than himself.

I had him back in the fall. His feedback on the 2000+ word papers were unhelpful because he would never explain what you can do to improve. He is quite biased in his lecture videos and only presents his opinion and not much of course material. Overall, not an excellent professor. Highly recommend taking the course with someone else.

This professor sucks. He is extremely disrespectful. He does not answer emails, makes absurd comments during lectures, and takes forever to grade. If you can avoid him, take the class with someone else. If you do get stuck in his class don't buy the book, its a waist of money. You have to write 3/4 papers, give an 8min speech and a final paper.

Not sure if some of the other reviewers had the same professor I had. Class wasn't too hard, just be sure to understand the readings, attend lectures, and follow the guidelines on paper assignments. He has his own beliefs and was a little politically biased in class, but he still gives you the opportunity to argue any point you want.

His lectures are boring in which he will only cover one slide of the powerpoint because he is talking for 50+ minutes about one topic on the slide. He makes some harsh comments, saying our generation is simply stupid. Takes a while to get assignments graded. Even while paying attention in class, I could barely grasp what concepts he was teaching.

He's funny, but a terrible professor. He doesn't adhere to the syllabus he set up and instead chooses to ramble about nothing for the entirety of class. Makes you buy a textbook that you NEVER use. Gives 0 feedback on 2000-word essays. Essays are hardly relevant to the course material because he doesn't actually teach the course material.

Contrary to what a lot of the comments on here say this professor is really not that bad. It is very writing heavy but out of the four papers you are only required to write 3/4 of them and he will drop the lowest score out of the 4 papers. He is very weak with feedback which is frustrating but if you do what he says in the rubric you will get a 100

I've heard mixed opinions about this professor. I recommend taking his online PS130 course instead of attending in person, as he tends to get off topic and may waste your time. The online class, however, wasn't terrible. Be aware that he is very strict about AI and will point out even minor issues. Make sure to meet the word count requirements!
