He always gets off track and tells random stories. Wastes class time so we have no idea what to do with homework.Very spacey, nice but can't teach.
He cares about his students who are wanting to learn and those that show up to class. He gives students quite a few opportunities to recieve extra points. He is very approachable and is not bothered by questions(he will happily answer them. He has a good sense of humor and seems to enjoy teaching.
He knows the material but is not very good at teaching it. Gets off track quite often, but is very open to questions. He is also very generous with extra credit.
he is very spacey...gets off topic every 10 min. the class is mind numbingly boring...but overall it is easy. just do the work and get it over with type of deal...

sure he goes off topic but it just keeps me awake laughing at his tangents. and i definitely learn in his class.
Thornbourgh was really cool. He was nice but often got off subject talking about not killing cats; he was also very clear with his explanations. Easy, easy class as long as you do the work and pay attention. Just do the work and you'll be fine.
Yea, tangents... totally. He is also a very good artist, for a dry erase board. The class is easy, and it is fairly enjoyable. He explains things well. I liked this class.
Fun teacher, but tends to go off on tangents during class discussions. Some difficulty understanding the concept being taught. Made it thru ok, but need to be able to do alot of learning on your own. Good teacher but not recommended for anyone who requires alot of in class problem solving.

he isnt that great of a teacher evertime i walk into the classroom i instantly feel stupider. though it is really easy to get him to make things extra credit, including the most ridiculous things.
Highly recommend this teacher! i had him for 108 and 224, failed 224 the first time, then thornburgh and i got an B! Hes spacey, but very funny, ESPECIALLY when no one wants to learn about math! EASY GRADER, AND GIVES MANY POINTS OUT! HARD TO FAIL!!
If you need to pass, then Stewart is the one to take. Gave extra credit 4 everything from finding out world population 2 measuring your vertical leap! Doesn't teach as much as go over homework questions. Let us drop lowest hour exam (he gave 4) & replace w/ highest if U didn't miss more than 1 class. A little spacey, but I recommend.
Hilarious. just take him cuz you'll pass no matter what! he reminds me of the guy in Patch Adams in the mental hospital who is afraid of squirrels. trust me, you'll think so too!
Awesome teacher.... makes a dull topic really interesting. easy class
Not someone I would recommend if you need to learn the material, but if you just want an easy class, this is definitely the one to take. I don't think I've ever seen anyone who grades easier. There were some quizzes he didn't even give, instead you just put your name on a piece of paper and handed it in! I'm not lying! Drop Dead Fred would pass!
Very nice and helpful
He is a very funny teacher and very easy grader. I would defenatly reccomend this teacher. He makes math easy.
I took him over the summer and passed with a B the material is not hard just show up to class and you will pass. he gives you credit on tests if you try and don't get it right. he was a fun teacher always making jokes.
Stewart Thornbourgh is not helpful if you plan to continue in math. His class caters to non-math majors so much so that your time feels wasted. He's so flexible that I worry for other students. He may be a nice guy, but tangents need to be cut and the material presented clearly. If you need to seriously understand the material, find somebody else.
Useless if needing to know the material, passing is easy as long as you attend all classes. If you need to know what you are doing, what a semester and maybe you will get someone else.
stewart is the best math teacher ever! he is very creative and although he gets off subject sometimes he is an eas grader and is very helpful and funny. i would deffinatly recommend him to take for anyother class!
He gets really off-topic, and it's not so much that he's a bad teacher, because he's not, he is just not one I can learn from.
This professor is very polite, and makes math fun. Good sence of humor, and is sure to explain things clearly. Would recommend!! Even to those who dont have great math skills!!
I'm a person who just doesn't like Math, but his class was pretty easy. As long as you do the required homework and his reviews you will easily pass his class. Does move a little fast with his notes, but as long as you look them over before you start your homework it will be pretty easy. Tests are just like his reviews. I would recommend him!
He does get off topic 80% of the time but somehow it still ties into what hes teaching in some wierd way. If you pay attention and do the homework you will be fine. He is very helpful and answers all your questions in the beginning off class. Overall, do what your supposed to and youll be fine. I recommend taking this class with him.
Really good teacher. Yes, he does go off topic, but somehow it's always within subject. Overall good teacher! Drops lowest test score for highest if u never miss class. You will have to teach yourself a little, but I've had worse. I do recommend taking him! Very cool guy.
Never had such an unprepared teacher. Doesn't always know how to solve the homework (shouldn't he have it done ahead of time?). Randomly decides on examples from the book. Class is pretty easy, but this guy is not that bright.
Horrible teacher! If you want to FAIL math then take this course. Doesn't know what he is taking about half the time.
While he's not such a bad guy, he has some trouble actually answering math problems. Class is usually spent an hour on going over homework problems, while we take 15 min on new material... Not an exceptionally difficult class, just a boring one.
He has homework everyday, but it is good he made me do it, or otherwise, I would not have passed the class. The final was hard, but I was well prepared.
Best math professor Ive had.. by far!! His class is easy and he puts the effort in helpin his students understand teh material. Whatever u dont he goes step by step explaining it to u and the class. His quizes and exams are not so challenging but if u make the effort to do homeowrk and pay attention you will A it!!
Do NOT take him. he is one of the most boring professors that i have ever taken. He is never prepared!!!!! Most of the time he guesses on the problems!
If you hate math, then take Mr. Thornburgh. He is very easy and gives a lot of extra credit. As long as you try he will give you credit. If you need to fulfill any math class take it with him; though he can be boring.
His class overall was easy but he is not a good teacher. During class, when someone asks him a question he answers them but doesn't show the process as to arriving at the answer. He expects us to know the material before hand. Don't take his class. Its not the course that was bad it was his teaching styling.
He is an awesome teacher. He goes over the homework every day and is very helpful. He is always willing to help!
The Best! Awesome!!!
I had previously taken Mr T in Geometry, so the fact that I had already known him really did help me. He is a nice guy. He isn't the easiest grader, but he is reasonable. His homework assignments were never to bad, but we did have something every night. You have a lot of opportunities to get points. I would recommend taking a class with him.
The instructor is very good in algebra! He is creative and works hard to teach the algebra. He is willing to spend the time so you understand.
he is a pretty great teacher his speech is very boring. but overall he explains everything very well and if you show up to class 100% he makes you drop your lowest test score with you highest one. GREAT TEACHER! SHOULD TAKE HIS CLASS!
Awesome Teacher, he explains things very well, as long as you go to every class and turn in all your homework on time, there is no reason to get a bad grade in this class! If you have the option to take him, DO IT!
Great teacher, love taking every math class with him.
He is super chill!! Lots of extra credit!! You CAnt fail his class!!
Mr. Thornbrugh is a nice and funny teacher. However, if you are not a "math" type of person/or don't like math, I don't suggest taking his class. He does not go over things very clearly. He can be very confusing! I had to bust my tail to get a A!!! BEWARE!!!
Thornburgh went on way too many tangents...He talked about everything but math. The time he spoke about the other things is the time he should've been talking about math! I had to get a lot of tutoring to pass his class. If you're not a math major, not the best at math, or need to learn math, I suggest not taking Thornb. Take another teacher!!!!!
He goes over everything you will need to know for tests. He does videos you can later go back to if you cannot remember how to do problems. Gives extra credit. Explains how to do problems in different ways on paper and on calculator. If I wasn't transferring I would definitely take trig with him. Very helpful and willing to help always.
This class had a LOT of homework! Problems from the book and online due weekly- covered a chapter a week in summer class. 4 reviews were long, each about 20 pages- the final review was 43 pages! Basically, this is a class that you self teach. 4 tests + final are fair and reviews cover most of what is on them. Grades are returned quickly
Mr. Thornburgh is not a very good teacher. He is a very nice guy but if you are NOT A MATH PERSON do NOT take him. There is no lesson plan. For Calculous 1 he basically spent 30 minutes doing the "lesson". Then every night I would teach myself the chapter from Youtube. The next day we would spend an hour asking questions cause nobody understood it.
Currently taking this online class and absolutely love it! I spend a lot of time doing my homework, and i totally love my grades! Honestly I don't enjoy Math, but i am ok with it. Good teacher. Would take this class again
He wastes lots of time giving unclear homework explanations and long breaks. I only recommend him for any dedicated calculus master, as he gives only a few answers to the VERY long review packets but bumps your grade up if you attend every class. If you are a fulltimer and have never taken calc or struggle with math, I suggest taking anyone else.
He is a sub par instructor. He just works on problems without teaching steps. He is very unorganized and uninteresting. With that being said, he is a nice guy and funny in a quirky way. He does give out extra credit and allows you to drop your worst test grade if you have good attendance.
Overall, Professor Thornburgh is a nice guy, but not a good math teacher. He wastes a lot of class time babbling on about random, irrelevant nonsense. The last week of class, we had to cram 8 sections in because he wasted so much time during the semester. We didn't even get a review day before the final! He doesn't believe in answer keys either!
The class was a very good class. The only problem with Stewart, is that he knows the material very good, he just doesn't know how to teach it. The lectures are long and he gets off topic easily. You will definitely need to read out of class and study to do good on the test. Other than that he is a fairly easy grader.
He's an OK teacher. Took his online class. Provides lectures videos for his online courses but does take a while to solve problems. Often makes mistakes solving problems but does catch the mistake before moving forward. His knows the material but his teaching skills need improvement because he tends to get distracted
Thornburgh was okay. He gets off topic so easily and goes on tangents that have NOTHING to do with math, which can be frustrating. As long as you take notes and do the homework assignments, you'll be okay. Reading the book helped more than some lectures. His videos of tutorials on how to do certain homework problems are really good.
(summer online) I'm writing to you all to save yourselves from the most stressful month of your lives. Exams 2,3 and FINAL are all in the same week. Homework is 7 mymathlabs a week& 7 written assignments. The reviews, which are MANDATORY on top of the homework, range from 13-20 pages. Be prepared to spend at least 20 hours a week on this bologna.
He has a horrible lisp that makes him difficult to understand, also he goes off topic and talks about random things. He also Gives a bunch of homework and isn't good at explaining anything. Literally I had to go to the math lab to learn anything. MAJOR L ALERT, also he has attitude to those who don't kiss up to him.
Thornburgh is a great guy and he definitely makes class enjoyable. If you don't know anything about the subject beforehand, I would recommend choosing a different teacher. He's not great at explaining things for the first time but he is an easy grader.
I enjoyed having Stewart as my professor. He keeps class fun and interesting. Sometimes the material is not explained very well, so you may need to spend some time learning on YouTube or seeing a tutor. Overall, I enjoyed going to class and found it to be easy. He is also a fair, reasonable grader on the tests and quizzes.
7:30 am class was a horrible decision on my end, but Thornburgh made it actually enjoyable - liked to joke around with us, overall lighthearted and amusing to be in class with. Gave out a ton of EC. I'm actually kinda sad he's not teaching Calc 2 next semester for me to take him again. Not always crystal clear, but is very helpful to get it down.
I'm not good at math and was scared to take a math class especially for college but Mr. Thornburgh is an amazing professor!! He made learning fun!! He explains the lessons very clear and if you have questions he stops and helps you step by step until you understand it. He also is willing to do one on one office hours if you are really struggling.
Mr. Thornburgh does not explain things well at all.. He is very disorganized and all over the place which is funny. Luckily this class is my last math class and nothing builds on top of it because I'm not sure I learned what I needed to know. If you attend every class he boosts your grade. He also gives an insane amount of extra credit.
Didnt not really explain his lessons with much detail. Homework was turned in online and not really graded.
Didn't even know the material well enough to teach it. Doesn't take his job seriously therefore making the students have to put in way more time than needed because you have to find ways to learn almost all of the material yourself. Not even joking. DO NOT TAKE for high level math. How does this guy still have a job "teaching" math is beyond me.
Doesn't explain his lectures very well at all. Lessons are oriented based on the assumption you've taken higher level physics. I would NOT recommend if you are not an engineering major. If you can avoid this professor for Calc III, I would strongly urge you to. If you aren't an engineering major, try to get another professor. You won't regret it.
Polite, kind, and funny at times, but it's as if he comes to class without a plan and then tries to teach to people who already know the subject. Often he will be speak quietly for large portions of his lecture, so sit up front or strain your ears. Assigns homework daily, says he will check it, and doesn't. Shows up 5-10 minutes late uncommonly.
Nice guy, decent teacher. Goes off on tangents frequently.
i dont know why he gets such a bad rap. as long as you show up and pay attention his tests are easy to pass. I will say he rambles a bit but always goes over something if you ask him to in class. At time he isn't accessible or takes a while to reply to emails so if you have any ?'s ask on the spot. allows you to take tests at testing center.
Mr. Thornburgh is a very nice, patient, and helpful instructor! Took MTH 145 with him over the summer and anytime I had questions he would spend time with me outside of class until I understood the material. Gives reviews before every test and a very generous amount of extra credit. Stay on top of the material and you'll do great in his class.
Mr. Thornburg is an okay professor. He would give lots of homework and reviews are kind of long. Sometimes I wouldn't understand his lectures because he wouldn't really explain himself, but if you asked questions and stayed after class, it made more sense. I would take it again if the class wasn't so long.
He's nice and funny. There are quizzes everyday, but they're very easy and there is enough where he will drop 3-5 of your worst score on them. Homework everyday, graded for completion. He goes on tangents often and lessons are a bit confusing but is good at keeping his notes on the board color coordinated and neat. Take him.
The zoom teaching style of Mr. Thornburgh was kind of frustrating. Zoom teaching can be difficult, but he tended to make it harder on himself, ramble on a lot, and it took him a very long time to do the homework problems. His grading style wasn't clear, and we never received feedback on our exams, just a grade. Which was the most frustrating part.
Professor Thornburgh is a very chill professor, he tends to get off topic a little bit but we always got through the lecture on time. Sometimes he doesn't fully explain himself however if you ask him about it he'll go back and thoroughly explain it. Overall he is a nice person and I would recommend his class.
Very nice and chill guy, he teaches pretty well. However a lot of the time his classes feel unplanned for, so if that's not a problem then go ahead and take the class. He was extremely unorganized with his calendar for Canvas, lots of kids would always stress out over the due dates. But he cares about your grades, and is pretty understanding
Mr. Thornburgh seems to genuinely care about the success of his students, being generous with grading, and offering many opportunities to earn extra credit. However, the vague grading system and lack of homework and exam feedback failed to show me what I did wrong, and his weekly student show&tell counting for two of four quizzes a bit unreasonable
Thornburgh is a very chill and passionate guy. He gives homework, but also provides videos to help you. He gives extra credit for the most random things. He provides study guides before exams and with videos as well. My favorite part of his lectures was when he would take small "breaks" during math problems. Do the work and you'll get the grade.
Really disorganized and seemed to come to class without a plan. it is so difficult to learn when he forgets what he is saying or starts rambling about something we don't need to learn. I ended up dropping the class bc I was tired of teaching myself and he was unresponsive to emails asking for health. Really couldn't follow his lectures
Professor Thornburgh is pretty laid back, but the class feels so slow. It was an easy class because he provides videos for most of the homework assignments. He also throws in random ec assignments and other things. He requires the book, but honestly, I used it like 3 times. All the hw assignments are in there, but sometimes he provides it.
Wonderful guy. Would absolutely take a class with him again.
Extremely laid back. Nearly all of the homework had videos where he walked you through problems, and he was also very easy to contact (either email or zoom). I wish he gave more feedback on the exam reviews though, as doing 28 pages of calculus and getting a 100% on it only to find out I had done some of the problems wrong was a bit annoying.
Nice guy, but he doesn't know how to teach and explain things. He isn't very organized so it's very hard to follow along.
He is a bit difficult to follow at first but he explains the material really well. He is a great guy who allows for groups to work together to solve problems. The only issue I had were the times I struggled were when things felt disorganized with how the lessons worked but in the end I still did well in his class because he explained it.
Overall great, kind & accommodating, let me take the final a week early. Math is NOT easy to learn online! Has example problems for all HW, 3 tests, 1 final. random extra credit for office hours & such. hard to grasp concepts outside of examples at times. Does not leave feedback online. If ur not semi-strong in math i would suggest going in person
Mr. Stewart is a nice and kind man. However, he should not be teaching something as difficult as calculus. He confuses hismeslf which in return confuses the whole class. Again, he is a nice and sweet man, with a big heart. BUT do not take for calculus.
He's a great funny guy, but he can be confusing. He doesn't tell you the formulas/explain the process of what he's doing. Though if you ask, he will explain. Reviews vary from 30-70 questions and tests vary from 8-15 questions. He gives out a lot of extra credit, so there's no reason why you shouldn't pass his class. You'll have to teach yourself.
Don't. Nice guy, but if you aren't a calc pro and are only taking this as a req, good luck. Unclear during lecture, extremely disorganized, and doesn't answer emails. Exams are fine, review packets help, will randomly decide to do a quick quiz (done in groups dw). Again, he's nice! But it's hard to enjoy a class when it's this disorganized.
He is really bad at the teaching part. Messy and unorginzed. In a 3 hour long class we only went over 1 section and even than if was confusing. You will have to teach yourself because he will not.
Soft spoken and doesn't go over the problem clear enough to understand. My class was 2 Hours 20 Minutes Long and we did Math for 30 to 50 Minutes. If your not good at math then it's going to be impossible to understand just because of his teaching. He doesn't answer his Emails so it's impossible to get Office Hours and get a hold of him.
This class wasn't that hard, but he just wasn't a very good professor. Mocked us when we got problems wrong and his explanation to Lectures and problems was very short. I got a good grade because I had to look everything up online and cheat. He also expects up to use Desmos but I don't know how to use it still.
Very difficult class. Mr. T is a good teacher, cares about his student, but is almost too social. A lot of the time, class time is used for talking about life, or other things. Out of a 2.5 hour class, only about half an hour to an hour is used for actual math. You must take time out of class to teach yourself. Ended up withdrawing from course.
Don't do it. In an almost 3-hour class, you will spend 10% of it actually doing math. He constantly goes off subject, plays games, and makes you do " What's in the box?" EVERY. DAY. He does not respond to emails. He gets lost and confused, so he relies on his students to keep track of him. Nice man but oh my god, don't do it if you want to pass
Yes, he does talk quite a lot/veers off topic at times. However, he's very nice and chill; always answers questions or concerns, gives little homework off textbook, provides extra credit opportunities, interacts with students well. Gives long breaks. I passed with a 99% and would definitely take another class with him.
I'm torn. He's a nice guy. It was an easy class. I like him. But now I'm in MTH 224 and I feel like I don't know anything while my classmates are doing fine. Take him for a last class, not a first class.
Really nice guy. But don't do it. Class was great and I used to tell others to take him, but now I realized that even though I got an A, I don't know the stuff. I'm in Bus. Calc and STRUGGLING.
Mr. T is such a nice guy but seriously. I don't care what is in the box. Please spend more time actually teaching what we need to know.
