Better than Cs course. Very helpful but boring most of projects written for u
the projects can take forever, but the tests are fair
shes sorta weird but a good teacher and this course is ok if you dont f around
fair course, sounds like Jodi Foster

The TAs really run the class, Stormy just sits back and observes. Class is really quite easy if you pay attention. The notes are written for you, just spend a little time to do the work, and you breeze through the class.
This class is the easiest class you will ever take in the engineering dept. Stormy does one lecture and TAs do the rest. Doesnt matter if she does it or not, everything is spelled out for you. Tests are freakin easy!!!
3 words: DO THE WORK; other wise great class. stormy prints out her notes for you, everything is layed out. just DO THE WORK.
Great teacher, prints the notes out for you so you don't have to take them. Their is a lot of work though.
class is a lot of work and it's difficult but it's easy to get a good grade if you do the work. Great teacher and boss
hard and boring
doesn't care about the students; can be touchy and defensive, very old-school. I object to rote coding on principle, so this course becomes more endurance-based than anything; tfs are good, prof is mediocre at best. textbook sucks.

The class is fine... it just can get a little boring... especially if you catch onto things pretty quickly. It's cake to pass this class, which is how it's designed.
Class is a breeze, but awful teacher
This class is so boring. Programming for babies. You are treated like a high school freshman in this class... and it's rediculous. If you can't pass this class, don't be an enginner.
TFs and TAs are good, teacher is fine, class is mediocre just because it's boring.
The class is a piece of cake. I really overestimated it at first. Everyone did. You don't even have to read the book because the professor lectures so well. The TF's are awesome and always there.
The class is pretty easy if you do your work and can understand basic computer terminology. Even if you have a hard time with the concepts, just do the work and you should get an A. The teacher doesn't do much but the TA's are awesome.
She is an awesome lady. The coursework piles up towards teh end of the semester but you would be really stupid if you cant even handle this class. I love C++!!
Class is fairly easy. It's really just problem solving. Very limited knowledge of computer terms needed to begin with. TA's are awesome--very helpful too.
Core course, just doin' what she has to. Do the work, get a good grade. Nothing else to it, materiel uninteresting, but no problem with the teaching.
good class. no toughie. just gotta do your work and you'll be fine.
the easiest class you will take at BU. enjoy it while you can
C++ is a really easy class and Stormy is a pretty cool prof. The class is very well organized and even though the practice problems are tedious, they really help you understand the stuff. The TA's rock!!
Although it is really easy to fall asleep in the lectures, she gives you the notes for the class. The worksheets help you understand the topics well, and exams and quizes are open book and notes. can be an easy A

She has no social skills. She knows who you are but when you pass her in the hall or try to say hi, she just looks away from you and mumbles. Very unfriendly personally or maybe its just that she has horrible socials skills.
You have got yo be kidding me! For the life of me i cant understand how this professor received so many good reviews. This professor puts me to sleep and the only thing that keeps me going is the Hott TA that shows up. This class is extremely hard if u have no prior c++ knowledge.
Extremely organized and cool. AND she IS friendly, at least to me. No offense...
If you are one of her favorites she is friendly... otherwise you're out of luck. No social skills as the person below said is right.
Shes really boring in lectures.. and she only lectures for 1/2 an hour every week, the rest is done by her TAs.. but shes very clear.. and the topic is quite fun if u ask me.. (its the only class that i have where we dont just sit down and listen, we actually do something!!! program!!)..
lectures for 30 mins (on a good week) and the other 3.5 hours are left to ta's most of whom dont know much. the class is easy but her book still sux. easy a but horrible teacher.
She gave us copies of her own textbook that she wrote. The notes in this book are ok. Her lectures are hard to follow because she breezes through it less than 20 minutes. Worksheets increase and difficulty. Tests are atrocius if you don't do your worksheets. Projects are saviors. Overall Rating: B-
I found the class exteremly easy, but all her retarded rules are simply designed to give you a worse grade instead of... whatever rules normally do. Did you know her minions give you zeroes for your class grade w/out telling you? That makes no sense. Just finish your in-class work quickly and run...
Terrible teacher. If you havent taken C++ prior to this class you will not do well. Does not explain anything. Gives you problems to do but never goes over them, so basically, if you don't understand something, you never will. Good luck asking the cocky tf's for help during class to. Destroyed my GPA
I think her former students misunderstand her. She is very knowledgeable in all aspects of computer programming. Her job isn't to be a friendly teacher, it is to be an effective teacher, and she is. You don't need prior knowledge of C++ to pass...you just need a brain. Attaway rocks!
This teacher doesnt really teach well and is one intimidating lady. However, if you work up the nerve to approach her, shes a really nice lady.
Are you a good teacher's pet? Do you like unfriendly teachers (if you're not one of her favorites)? Then Attaway is for you!
real easy
If you took AP comp sci, it'd be sad if you got less than a A. Don't bother buying the book; you never use it. If you don't have any programming experience, sit next to someone that does. In any case, this is the last easy engineering class (aside from ek130) that you'll have, so make sure you do well.

from my exp. S. Attaway is an extraordinary professor, her lectures and explanations are as clear as her well done book, I'm comparing her with other computer teachers and she's by far better. If you are not willing to work in the week with the WS perhaps you shouldn't be an engineer at all, standards are high so keep up. S.A.: no notes on exams!!!
Not knowing that C++ even existed, i managed a B+. She is a good professor, but the class can be decieving if you are not familar with any programming language. YOU MUST keep up with the reading and not grow too comfortable with the early material. With the projects: be in a group with people that know C++, that will make your life much easier. =)
Great Class, great professorIf yu have never taken the c++ you might get an Ato pass you ony need to show up for class, do your problemsets and go to review sessions. Enjoy the class, you won't take another ENG class as easy as c++
she teaches you everything you need to learn, you just have to be willing to listen.
She really doesn't seem to care all the much about teh students, and throughout the entire semester you'll find the TA's do more of the teaching then she does. This doesn't matter all that much when you consider how easy the material is, however.
Attaway is a gud prof. Kids might find her intimidating at first, but if u approach her she's really cool. As for the class...early on the material is easy, but after the first exam if you slack off then ur in for it! yeah and join a group for the project...thrs no way on earth that you can finish it alone.
Easy class. Just play by Attaway's rules and you're golden. Listen in class, do the worksheets, read the free book, be a slave to the man and you'll be rewarded with an A.
Had her for linear algebra during the summer. This class is a must take if you need to fulfill the engineering linear algebra requirement. This class is just like her C++ class. You get all of the notes in class and you get open notes/book quizzes and tests! Easy A, not thinking involved! Just do all of the worksheets and you will do fine.
She's an amazing Professor, but sometimes she can be a little intimidating. She is very good with lectures, and she has lots of TAs that seem knowledgeable about the material. They will be your best source of help throughout the course, but usually Stormy's notes workout well enough.
I had not programmed at all prior to MATLAB and was concerned that I would not be able to keep up with those who did have experience. However, if you pay a decent amount of attention in class and make sure that you understand and are able to do the in class hw you should be fine. Organization is a must - notebook checks and open note tests.
You have to attend class.. and it's soo boring.. you technically don't have to listen in class. She lectures about her the notes she gives you during class. I think you either love it or hate it.
She is a great teacher. She's fun and personable, and really knows her material. Class can get a little boring. If you pay attention in the lectures, then you have an easy A. Notes are allowed on all tests and quizzes. Quizzes every Friday. TAs are really helpful too. There's always someone there to help you if you need it.
The class is very easy if you've done computer programming before. Prof Attaway isn't very exciting, but her notes are very good and thorough. Just read her notes and you'll ace the class.
Really boring lectures, but interesting stuff. Attaway's brilliant and has easy-to-understand notes. Great intro course for kids who've never done programming. Awesome TA's. Helpful assignments/projects/quizzes. Extremely fair tests, open book/open note. Straight grading. Easy A if you do all the assignments.
If you have good TA's and spend a lot of time doing the material you'll be fine, just dont expect her to teach you anything or actually be at lecture. She teaches for 30 minutes a week, and by teaching I mean reading her notes.
Easy class, hands out the textbook which she wrote herself in increments for EK 127. She basically just read it to you after she handed it out. All tests and quizzes are open note. It's boring, but easy.
This is such an easy but important class. No actual textbook yet, but she does give handouts from her book that will be published soon. Lectures are the equivalent to audiobooks, but attendance is taken all the time. Labs are important, so don't fall behind on worksheets. Projects are easy but time consuming. Overall I liked the class.
Professor Attaway makes this class manageable even if you have no prior programming experience. Concepts are illustrated clearly in her notes which are a copy of the textbook almost in publication. All exams and quizzes are open notes. Overall great class, T.A's are all great and have full knowledge of the material. A+ rating
Super helpful. MATLAB is awesome
Great Professor. Attaway really knows the subject and is willing to help you out. She explains concepts well and the lab re-enforces everything. Furthermore, the tests are super easy... BTW, she wrote the book for the class, and its a great book.
If you actually do the labs and don't just copy them you'll be fine. Tests are just like the labs. Make sure you organize your binder before the tests because you get to use them.
Great professor. Wrote the textbook and its a great book. Very clear and excellent examples. I had no prior experience in programming but this class seemed easy to me. The TAs are helpful. The tests are all open notes and easy if you paid attention in class.
Professor Attaway knows her stuff. She wrote the book. Unfortunately, this class is very much a freshman class. Poor class attendance will hurt. Tests are not particularly difficult and are open note. Her cadre of student assistants vary in their skill, but there are so many that you will always find one in the lab to help.
Great professor, explains concepts clearly. You WILL learn the material if you go to class, and studying for tests will be a breeze. Tests are also very straight forward. The projects are the hardest part of the class, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to work on them.
Attaway wrote the book for this class, and it works very well in helping out. The lectures and labs can get boring. Only real complaint is that the project directions are WAY too unclear. Other than that, fairly easy class, pretty good professor.
Prof Attaway wrote the book. The light reading req'd prior to lecture takes 30 minutes, max. Attaway's lecture usually accurately predicts any points of confusion; if not, she takes questions regularly, addressing the topic fully until the student understands. TAs run labs, design projects, and grade work. Not hard at all & an enjoyable class.
I love Attaway! Best teacher I've ever had a BU. She definitely knows her stuff, and is willing to help you if you're confused. Attendance is a drag, the only real hard part about the class is the projects, which require a few hours to actually finish. Tests are all open notes and book. Everything is basically graded and led by the TAs, even labs.
Does not teach... Get used to her TAs as your defacto profs
DO NOT MESS AROUND WITH HER, SHES A COURSE COORDINATOR! LOL. Anyways, that should not be a problem. Nice (strict looking though), lectures help a lot! Straight forward lecture notes, but need pre-readings. Have a lot of TAs, really depends on your fate (of getting a good one or not). Her book is great, very fundamental and conceptual.
I love Stormy. Programming is an interest of mine, and her MATLAB course was amazing. Yes, it's a requirement, but it'll be the best required course you'll ever take. She's clear, precise, friendly, and her textbook (new edition due soon, I believe) is unbelievably helpful. Great, great teacher.
Great professor, super clear, straight forward: do everything, get an A. Do nothing: fail. Your grade directly reflects the amount of work done, not necessarily the quality. The grade distribution is a bit twisted, projects only take up 3-5% of your grade but take up the most time.
Attaway is a strict professor, but she is the only professor teaching this course. TAs run the lab and the discussions so it's simply luck for that. The quizzes can be hard but the entire class is open book. Keep your notes organized and you should be fine. As a side note, attendance is mandatory and if you don't attend you will lose points.
MATLAB is easy, especially if you know something about programming prior. The class revolves around a book she wrote. Essentially, lecture is a mandatory story time early in the morning, perfect time for sleeping. You learn from labs and discussion. The tests are open-book and easy. Projects are long and tedious. Overall though, easy class.
Loved this class! I've never done any programming but this course made it very clear to understand. She grades attendance so get a lecture you know you'll wake up for. The tests and quizzes are straight forward and open book. The Projects were insane. So be in a group you'll actually work with and not procrastinate.
AWESOME! One of the best profs ever! Makes the class easy!! However, projects are a pain make sure you finish them ASAP and that you have a good group!
Prof. Stormy Attaway very good. She explains the concepts very well. The thing is that the workload is too much. The course consumes a lot of time. Worksheets, projects, and the synopsis papers will take you so long. However, you will get out of this class understanding the basic programming concepts and what the uses of programming are.
easy class... she spews out the book nearly verbatim, which makes the class boring. Just skim the book and do the sheet in class; it'll save you the trouble. aaand that's all you see of her. TAs and TFs explain the rest in labs and discussion. Easy? yes. Useful? That's where we're divided.
All around good professor. Has her stuff together. As long as you go to class you will learn the stuff because the in class quizzes require active participation.
Stormy is one of the best profs you will have the honor of meeting at BU. She makes programming very easy to understand and she knows her stuff (she literally wrote the book on MATLAB). Get to know her! Great prof, even greater person!
She is one of the best professors I have had at BU. I enjoyed this course so much. SHe is a great professor and she explains everything clearly. Moreover, she gives very helpful handouts and challenging yet fun projects.
AWESOME! One of the best professor at BU.
Probably the best engineering professor I've had so far at BU. You will learn a lot in this class and Stormy gives meaningful assignments.
Well organized and really knows what she is talking about. The class structure made it easy to learn the material. Hers is one of the only classes I feel I have really learned all of the material in.
As a professor she is great-she does her job very well.(Took a while ago.) Her teaching method is also good, felt like I learnt something (projects were tough, but do-able.) However, she is a very strict grader. Also, I also feel like obliged to say that as a person she is the worst. I had a reasonable problem, she didn't care (no help at all)
Attaway Is a rite of passage as a BU Engineer. She is a good professor but often fails to relate the strange topic of coding to people who have never been exposed to it. Look to the amazing TA's for help, and you'll be alright
The lectures are super long and kind of pointless at the same time. Stormy posts all the lectures online as videos, so during her lecture periods all we do is work on practice problems. And the fact that we were forced to buy and use the book she wrote for the class
Great prof
Most of the learning is done on your own before class and in class you will be given work to do. The material is not that hard, but because it's not taught it's challenging. TA's are helpful.. sometimes.. Expect a lot of work in class, which cannot always be finished in class and you will have to finish at home.
Hopefully you don't take this class with a packed schedule because it is a lot of work. You will constantly be doing work in this class throughout the week, so get ready. The lectures are also active learning, so come in to class knowing the subject already. It's tough but attendance is 60% of your grade, so just show up. If you dowork you're fine
The class is run in a flipped format. Students come with the material prepared and class is problem sets which are very helpful. TA office hours are very helpful. The class is run very well. Staying on top of the work is key. Try to complete the assignments and readings on time so you don't get behind.
You need to read textbook and watch the online lecture before you go to class, but actually for me, I didn't always read the book. Even though she does not lecture in class at all, the group works (be sure get a smart partner) in class are very helpful. If you know how to do most of the group work questions, you will most likely get a B+ or above.
She does give off the impression that she doesn't like you. Don;t worry she's like that for everyone. Other than that its a pretty straight forwad class
MATLAB was so fun!!! Stormy's tests are pretty fair, and can be very straightforward if you study right. You get a cheat sheet on the exam, and the flipped-classroom setup really gets you involved in it.
The professor wrote the textbook used for the class and it is probably the best textbook I have ever used. The course material is extremely useful which makes it easier to learn. The class is probably the best organized class I will ever take.
This class was the best class I've taken at BU so far. The class setup is brilliant--it permits students to come to class with a solid knowledge of the day's task. The reading can be much at times and the labs can be hard, but as long as you keep up with the reading, watch the lecture videos, and practice coding, you should be fine!
Lecture material is covered online, so during your lecture periods you'll work on problem sets in small groups. The practice you receive from lecture and lab is where true learning happens. Your TAs will be the main sources of help, but finding the right solution on your own is the best way to augment understanding. Use TAs after all efforts fail.
This is one of the most useful classes I've taken. Professor Attaway breaks MATLAB down into learnable chunks and each time you learn something you'll find yourself using it immediately in your other classes. This class had a reasonable workload but you need to stay on top of it; there's something to do for class almost every day
There is a lot of work in this course and Stormy rarely explains the concept before. Basically the entire course is based off of videos that she has pre recorded and you never actually get taught. You have a quiz and three worksheets every single lecture and a quiz every discussion as well as online homework and quizzes. It's an exhausting course.
There's not all that much to say about Stormy herself; this isn't a lecture-based course so she doesn't do all that much. Instead, you watch her lectures/powerpoint slides outside of class and do the work in class. Personally I love the format but it isnt one where the professor does all that much. Be sure not to skip class, you'll fall behind fast
You have to buy the book she wrote. Not qualified to be a professor - too arrogant and doesn't know how to talk to anybody under 50 years of age. Messy unclear logistics of the dynamic of this class. A waste of everybodys time.
When I first took this class I had to drop but when I retook it I aced it! If you want to pass this class you need to: read the textbook, go to class, and do the assignments/projects. The people you interact with most are the TAs and students in class they're helpful so ask questions if you have them. Make sure to read the textbook before class!
You're never gonna see her, but you'll always know her.
She doesn't really do anything you mostly just interact with the TAs who ares Sometimes helpful and sometimes really not. But if you watch the videos before class and actually go to class you'll be fine
Attaway doesn't teach. You only see her in lecture and she doesn't talk unless you call her over. The TA's are your best friends! Be nice to them. There are only so many of them and that's not their fault. You will do the same thing every week. You will learn from everyone but the professor. It's not a hard class as long as you show up.
While you don't interact with Stormy so much, I really enjoyed this class, and it was one of my favorites. The TAs are really good, and as others have said, that's who you'll be interacting with the most. The class is conducted in a "flipped" format, and while I was hesitant at the amount of homework at the beginning, I really enjoyed the class.
Lots of work. Amazing professor. This course is famous for its flipped structure, with which you spend time in class getting better at programming, solving doubts and issues. The TAs are really great, and there to help. Classes are so engaging and never boring. Nice to say, it was fun to take. The online lectures are clear, and great.
The class format is really weird, and it makes it extra difficult. You're expected to teach yourself everything by watching lecture videos and reading the book, and there's no opportunity to clarify before you're quizzed on it. She is very condescending, rude and unhelpful. She sometimes shows up to class, but if you ever need her help, good luck.
Attaway is rude, unhelpful and unavailable. This class is entirely run by TAs and they're awesome but Prof Attaway is not. This is a "figure it out yourself class" and it is hard to stay caught up if you are confused. There's no way for you to access your overall grade in this class until after the semester, so there's no way to track your progress
At first, Professor Attaway will seem stern and unapproachable. Her lectures are reversed, meaning you'll watch videos on the topic and then come in and practice. You get to use cheat sheets on her exams though. Yes the class/lab/discussion are all run by TA's who are really nice. She's nice as well you just have to talk to her. She warms up to you
The class is flipped (watch lecture videos for homework, practice in class) and is mostly taught by the TAs who are lovely and very helpful. It isn't difficult if you follow the lesson plans, and all of the assignments are laid out in a very organized way. Attaway herself seems a bit unapproachable, but I feel like I'd like her if i got to know her
Not that much accessible, but it is an easy A course overall. She does not teach, but it is enough to watch the online clips and do the exercises.
Maybe actually lecture in lecture
Terrible Professor, was struggling through the class and got a 52% on the first test, got an email from prof telling me to drop the class even through their was 75% left in the grade-book to be graded. a lot of homework, and if you miss a day you will fall behind severely.
5/5 for TAs 1/5 for professor TAs are so nice, but the professor is not. You can only expect to see her in recording but never in lectures. Not that hard if you learn everything by yourself.
One of my favorite Professors at BU. Her class is unconventional, but for the material it makes senses and it is structured so you actively practice what is learned. The tests and the grading overall are all super fair and you'll only fail if you do consistently bad and/or skip a lot. She's also a phenomenal baker.
From the perspective of work to pay ratio, I really respect Professor Attaway. She doesn't need to do anything but say class starts and ends because she has pre recorded lectures and 20 TAs. She literally just shows up and makes money, go her. I'm not even upset, that's awesome that she set up a system where she doesn't really have to do anything.
Lectures are done BEFORE class via her videos. Class time is devoted to solving problem sets. Professor Attaway is present but doesn't interact with students much. It's the TAs who answers questions. Tests are fair and reflect the problem sets/ review packets (given before every test)/lab worksheet.
Massive number of assignments scattered over so many different sites it's impossible to keep track of everything. You get no help from her or TAs in the lectures, but you need to be there for a quiz anyways. She also only grades labs at random, so you can work your ass off for no credit, then slack off on 1 assignment and it's the only one graded.
While taking the class, I thought the flipped lecture style was the dumbest thing ever. But having finished the class, I realized that I actually retained a lot of what was taught. That was probably because of the TA's... Attaway is like Bigfoot, none of us really knew if she was real
Attaway is pretty hands-off for this course, and many of the TAs are helpful but some are straight up annoying and condescending but you find ones you like. Was frustrated with Attaways inaccessibility as her office hours were early morning and then she wasnt there anyways, but our class had high test averages anyways and I learned MatLab so .
It's honestly funny how she is so stingy about being in class, yet never goes herself. The reverse lecture model she runs is fine and all, but she uses it as an excuse to just not show up to classes. All your teaching will be from the book/slides and TAs. The class itself is easy if you study a few hours per week, but the professor is negligible.
Attaway doesn't actually teach her own class. We watched pre-recorded lectures from 2013/15, and any questions you had were answered by the TAs, since she only joins for the first 5 minutes and is completely unresponsive to emails (unless you go to her superiors). She is curt at best and completely uncaring and rude at worst. Good luck, ENG kids!
Attaway? More like atta-where lol Flipped lecture style, a lot of homework and weekly quizzes. Thats right, no lecture in lecture time, so better get used to it. If you dont understand the concept, you better start praying the TAs can save you because she rarely responds to emails. Textbook is your best friend.
I took her class in 2020 fall. About 392 students are divided into many sections. She only appeared at the beginning of every lecture telling you she created breakout rooms. Did not teach ANYTHING! Let you solve the group problem sheets. TA sometimes jumped in answered 1/2 questions. 50 minutes later, class over. Rarely replied email.
this was the most anxiety-inducing class ever. the amount of hw, labs, and quizzes every week was honestly too much. attaway is never present and when she is she is completely rude and uncaring towards students. wont respond to emails, petty grader and doesn't even teach (flipped lecture style). she totally destroyed any curiosity i had for coding.
It's annoying how she doesn't really teach the class but you do end up learning a lot of coding. I didn't know anything about coding before I took this class. The class does weekly quizzes, group projects, and exams but the weekly quizzes are only 15% of your grade so don't freak out. Just really study for those exams and do the projects right!
Attaway is a pretty good lecturer. Although all of her lectures are pre-recorded, she is very clear in her explanations. She is rarely available outside of class and her TAs (who are very helpful) handle student questions. All of the work you are given (the disc wksht, matlab grader, and the extra probs) prepares you well for the quizzes.
It is not easy to keep up with this class even though the material isn't that bad. You can't rely on Prof Attaway for any help but the TAs are nice. Just get ready to teach yourself the entire course.
Not only is this class completely impossible and confusing, but at times even the TFs don't even know what's happening. You'll barely see Attaway, and don't even try emailing her cause she won't reply. She'll accuse you of cheating on her quizzes when you don't, and she's pretty terrifying. Go to office hours every chance you'll get, you'll need it
The workload is a bit heavy but that's to be expected for engineering and it wasn't terrible. The quizzes and exams all seemed fair and if you paid attention, did the work, and studied it was pretty easy, and I learned a lot.
This was my favorite class freshman year. Stormy is really great at explaining absolutely everything, she's even the author of the textbook we use. Her and all of the TA's in office hours are so helpful in explaining difficult concepts and if you watch the pre-lectures and pay attention, it's not difficult to get an A.
From what it seems, post-pandemic Attaway is better than pre-pandemic Attaway. She responds to emails, she communicates with students in lectures, and we actually get to know her. She also made all of her exams open-note. However, lab worksheets can eat up a lot of your time. Google will be your best friend. Would have been nice to learn more C.
This class is all group work. The material isn't too hard to grasp but don't rely on her to guide you through, the TFs will be your saviors in this class. Mostly busywork that will take up a lot of your time. I had never done coding before this class and did fine on the exams. I wouldn't take her class again unless I didn't have a choice
It is hard to give a definitive review, as Professor Attaway does not exactly teach the class. It is mostly run by the TAs. The flipped lecture style was hard to get used to at first, but after a few weeks I had it figured out. As someone with no coding experience I struggled a bit, but overall I learned a lot.
Flipped lecture mode takes getting used to but definitely prompts students to focus more. Class participation is a small quiz everyday (you should be fine if you've done pre-class). Exams aren't too hard. Most of the teaching/communication is with the TA, she gives kinda strict scary vibes but knows her stuff. Overall good class if you put in work.
Do not buy her book, everything from the book that you will need to know is covered in her lecture videos (which you will watch outside of class and are publicly available on YouTube). She seldom shows up to her own lectures (which is essentially a group study, but still mandatory attendance). Definitely go to discussions and labs! TFs are amazing!
This class is basically self-taught since she chooses not to teach us. As a result, it was hard for me to retain the information that was taught to me.
Solid class, lots of drills and exercises. I heard a lot of people had difficulty with the C portion, which I had a bit of a head start on having used C before, but overall the class was very well organized. Stormy knows Matlab very well, and was very easy to approach.
Stormy makes ek125 passable but exhausting. With all the assignments quizzes and hw, this was the most time-consuming class I took all semester due to the self-teaching you're expected to do. At the end of the semester, she screwed up my grade, then told me she was changing it via email. Unsympathetic+bold for someone who never showed up to class.
If I could give this professor a rating, I would give her no rating at all because she's never here and even when she is here she doesn't do anything . Expect to take frequent quizzes (known as IPP's and the weekly discussion quiz) that are based on concepts learned that week (on your own). Also, grading criteria was unclear).
She is never at the lectures and she makes you buy a useless textbook which she wrote and profits from. The lectures feel like a discussion and just gives us worksheet and makes her TAs work like slaves. Probably is divorced. Also, the amount of useless work that we have to do is insane. There are 7 assignments and 3 quizzes every week.
This course is flipped classroom style, so you need to learn everything on your own, and do the majority of the work outside of class. TA's are very helpful so definitely go to office hours for help and pay attention in discussion, the rest of the class sections are really just for attendance. Stormy is very elusive and doesn't teach at all.
This class is entirely self teach, that's the first red flag. The teacher also doesn't show up to class and when she does it's to stand around at the front and watch ominously. She is also hard to contact outside of class, she'll respond to emails sometimes and leave you ignored other times. We don't even know our grades and the semester ends soon.
Stormy Attaway might be the teacher for this course, but she doesnt actually teach. I think I only saw her 3 times the whole semester. The lectures are pointless as we never actually learn anything, and the only people who actually teach are the TAs. The videos she has us watch have no emotion and are the most boring and terrible way to learn.
This was probably the hardest course I have ever taken, not because the material was hard, but because there are no lectures. The class is flipped, so all lectures are watched on videos on your own time. An insane amount of homework! Final project and all homework was only worth 15% of the grade, even though they take dozens of hours. Hard tests!
She doesn't teach. Period.
Flipped classroom, which I dislike. Other than that, the class was extremely organized and enjoyable. The workload was predictable and the class was well-paced. Attaway has constructed a well-oiled machine of TAs to help run the class (she doesn't exist like 95% of the time). Class is also social; you basically learn from your peers.
I'm sure Prof. Attaway knows her stuff and wants her students to succeed, but I wouldn't know since I barely saw her all semester. The class is flipped, so be ready to figure a lot of things out on the fly during lecture. It'll take a lot of effort and self-teaching, especially if you have no previous programming experience.
If you like programming and can understand it without much trouble it's not a hard class. Stormy isn't in class most of the time but it's not like she's needed when there are TAs in place of her. Her lecture videos are clear and as long as you understand the homework + labs you will pass for sure. If you hate programming then good luck.
The content of this course can be interesting. That's about all it has going for it. Not really sure why I'm rating a professor that doesn't even exist. Basically just writes her name on the tests and calls it a hard day's work.
Never shows up in lecture. Let student alone and just self learning. Creating revenue by letting student by her own textbook. Worst prof ever
Prof. Attaway only shown up to the lecture five times (maximum). Other than that she doesnt care about students, and you wont be able to get in touch with her at all. I emailed her three times, but received zero feedback & email. Try to get used to the independent study.
I had the hardest time learning the material because of the flipped class style. If you have previous knowledge of coding, you'll be fine. If not, I pray for you and your GPA.
Do I need to add anything to what has been said before? Probably not. Do you have the choice of picking another professor? No. You better develop a passion for programming on your own, because she doesn't show up. Gives enough ressources. Go to office hours, the teaching team will never fail you.
Honestly, I barely know Professor Attaway. I have only seen her during the exam and one or two times during the course. I'm sure she knows the material well as she wrote many textbooks, but she is not a "professor." She only cares about her writing and research or whatever she does, but she doesn't care about students.
She was a smart professor, who definitely has a very strong understanding of her subjects, though she mostly outsources this class to 3 TA's which is totally not enough TA's for class blocks composed of like 50 students. There was a lot of homework and so many high-difficulty projects. I rarely saw Prof. Attaway in class.
Worst Professor ever! Some other professors might be bad at teaching, but this professor never teaches! I won't even call her a professor since she is just fooling around during the lecture and letting her TAs do most work for her.
The only teacher of ENG EK125. I'm not sure what she actually looks like or if I've actually seen her. You are tasked with writing code that the teaching advisors cannot even do properly (which is not their fault but speaks to the difficulty of the course). You are frequently tasked with writing code that requires outside knowledge of MATLAB.
Johnny johnny yes papa learning Ek no papa.i guess that says enough, the only time I have heard her voice is when she spawned behind me and told me to switch off my phone, never teaches. and will make you think about switching major.
Stormy Attaway doesn't exist and this class is hell. so time consuming its painful. the ta's know nothing and dont show up to office hours. you have to teach yourself everything bc there is no lecturing happening during the lectures at all. they grade pretty easy probs bc they feel bad. if you know how to code you're fine. if not, good luck.
She barely shows up for lectures, and assigns a lot of outdated work. You have to read before class or else you won't pass, and the TA's will be your best bet when it comes to getting help. Don't even bother emailing the professor because she will not respond.
Tough course, Prep-learn everything before go to class, Videos are very useful, Don't expect to learn anything in the class, Sections are spent in exercises and quizs, Multiple group assignments, Find reliable teammates; I really learn alot from this course, it's very useful; Tip: TAs are your best friend, ask them everything you don't understand.
Worst professor ever. Never showed up and never taught on the lecture. The only method to avoid her is to take CS courses at CAS and transfer the credits for 125, and I think it is CS111 or 112. Anyway, I suggest any Eng student who hasn't taken 125 should consider it.
Attaway doesn't directly teach, she uses EdPuzzle-style videos you're expected to watch outside of class alongside notes you take from the textbook that SHE wrote. Basically, you teach yourself with the material she's given. If you're cool with that, this class is for you; if not, be ready, cause she's the only EK125 professor.
Attaway showed up to a few classes but not that many at all given the frequency of EK125. The course is flipped and you have to learn a lot of content on your own before every class. The TA's aren't supposed to help you too much in lecture/lab and Attaway tells you to drop if you do bad on the first exam. They've changed the course this semester.
Prof. Attaway rarely attended her "lectures" (group practice problem time), expect to teach yourself MATLAB or go to TAs. Requires you to buy her own textbook. Assigns lecture videos you have to watch for homework where she just reads slides that come straight from the book. Makes you write code on paper. Mandatory lecture & lab attendance.
Attaway rarely goes to class and recycles her class year after year. The labs don't get graded till the end so you don't really know how you're doing in the class and there's no way to miss this teacher because of core. THe GPP's in class are useless and are never finished and much of what you do feels very redundant.
Attaway did not even teach this course. I loved EK125 and did well but Attaway herself is not good. She just likes to enforce the purchase of her own textbook and never showed up to class. Even after this, this class wasn't hard, so i enjoyed it.
It would be a rare occasion to see Professor Attaway in class. If you send her an email, don't expect a reply a back. You will be learning by yourself through her textbook which she makes you buy. The class is not engaging and to be honest, it is quite difficult considering it was designed for first year engineers.
Follows a flipped classroom structure, so you're expected to teach yourself all of the content with prelecture videos/the textbook and just do practice problems in groups during lecture. Rarely shows up to class and just stands there when she does. Probably could've gotten an A if she actually taught....
I don't think the class is terribly difficult, but you do have to watch her videos, and if you want to do well, I recommend reading the textbook. While Attaway never taught things herself, I will admit that I did learn a lot during this course. Tip: Your TA's will help you.
Actually the worst professor at BU. I'm honestly surprised she became a professor since she does not care about her students. If you plan with meeting with her for office hours or even emailing her don't expect a response; she make sit known that she doesn't want to know or help you. DON'T BUY HER TEXTBOOK!!!
God bless the TAs, because they were the real teachers. Stormy showed up to class a few times over the course of the semester but didn't contribute anything to the lectures. Getting her book isn't necessary. Not too hard of a class, but very annoying.
I'll make this short and simple like her IPP's; just NO!
Terrible professor. Avoid at all costs. Doesn't teach anything during class time. Makes you write code on paper and docks marks if you arrive late to class. Hours upon hours of "preclass" videos count for 20% of your grade. The whole course exists to compel you to buy her textbook. "Labs" are tedious worksheets that you have under 48h to finish
Absolutely awful. Used a "flipped" class room, which means that we learn everything ourselves and she doesn't teach (or come to class). Didn't answer questions and was inaccessible; weekly office hours were on a post-it outside her office. Doesn't release our grades until the end of the class, and used a weird grading scale (EARN). N for Just NO!
Worst professor I've ever had. Did not even attempt to teach anything all term. Videos assigned to watch pre-class, all are her robotically reading off PowerPoint. Worksheets assigned but not graded till after final exam, answers never released. Quizzes are only thing telling you how you're performing. Horrible professor. Tenured so can't be fired.
The class content isn't that bad, my class year, BU switched this course to only a 2 credit class, but overall it is structured well, and the content is clear, even though there is a lot to cover. The professor is never in class, which isn't her fault, but even when she is there, she teaches nothing. Basically acts as a TF.
As a Professor, Attaway was very disconnected from the class - the TAs did most (if not all) of the teaching. The class is structured in such a way wheree you are prompted to do all the learning before class and complete group worksheets/labs in class, can't say I feel I learned a lot this way. Class isn't hard, but the structure makes it harder.
If you read the textbook you will do well. Nothing much more to say that has not already been said...
Do not take this professor, if you like your peace of mind. She is always unavailable outside the classroom, passive-aggressive when responding to concerns, and you have to teach yourself the whole course material / ask TAs I doubt she likes her job. The worst experience ever.
Doesn't show up to class at all. Hard to contact.
Class itself was fine, but professor's teaching style definitely wasn't for everyone. Her "lectures" were recordings of her reading off slides which were essentially copied from her textbook. Students were expected to do a lot of work outside of class in preparation for class (teach themselves the material). In class time felt like a waste.
She uses a flipped classroom teaching style. This leads to very little learning happening during lectures, you will have to teach yourself pretty much everything using the materials. She is very often not in class and you will mostly rely on TAs.
Professor Attaway is barely in class and doesn't teach any of the material; the class is practically run by the TAs. Simply the worst class I've ever taken. If you're an incoming engineering student and need to take EK 121/122, I suggest asking if you can replace it with CS 111, you'll have a much better time and learn more stuff there.
Easy course, trash way of teaching, you are not gona see her in every section except exam. lecture = useless group worksheet, lab worksheets are hard indeed. Question on the final is easy but strange and poorly described. TOUGH GRADING!
Not sure why she still has a decently high rating. She will make your life harder than it needs to be for no reason, for one she doesn't bother to teach or show up to class, doesn't want to have any interaction with you, it is also impossible to contact her, and she simply does not care. I don't ever want to deal with this kind of professor again!
No organisation in courses. DO NOT TAKE HER. Regrade requests take up to a month and TA do not have a clue what's happening.
She teaches nothing in class. The only purpose she comes to class is to show you she comes and then she just stand there and teaches nothing. She believes in flipped class so she want you to self study. Even she teaches nothing, but the attendance is still mandatory which is crazy. Again, I recommend you to find a way avoid this class.
worst professor ever seen on the face of the earth. NO ORGANISATION OF COURSE
She isn't great but definitely not as bad as people make her out to be. She is very clear about what you need to do in her class to do well but she struggles in actually making sure the students can understand the material. If you know how to program it will be very easy but if not be prepared to self-teach some fairly complicated material.
No teach anything during the class, cannot take missing quiz
Attaway's class is a self-study challenge. Lectures are sparse, and you'll rely heavily on TAs. But with discipline and tools like unstuck ai, you can excel. The workload is tough, but the material is manageable if you stay on top of it.
Very unprofessional as a professor, you can tell she doesn't care for her student. She cannot answer emails or meet with you when your grade depends on it (which matters a lot when you're a student). Very difficult professor to get a hold of, and when you do she is not friendly by any means.
get ready to learn everything by yourself, she will not teach you a single thing and relies on her ta's to help you with all your work. her style of teaching is self taught and she half the time will not even show up to classes.
cant even call her a professor, she doesnt respond to any emails and does not teach a single thing
Very impressive with her "fliped-course". You literally study everything on your own and do worksheet in class. She only stays for half of the lecture and then leave the students with the TAs. Not to mention her 'clear instructions' on the assignments and her 'useful' tutoral videos from 10 years ago, which are basically she reading the ppts.
Honestly one of the worst professors I ever had. So rude and her TA's pretty much teach the class for her. She won't answer questions or emails, paired with the fact that it's a "flipped class" honestly defeats the entire purpose of her being there.
She did not teach much during class due to the flipped format. However, the instructional material and practice problems were very helpful. The TAs were a godsend
Can't even say much. You had to read everything yourself, and the fact attendance was required, made it seem like another high school class. This course is basically a self study course, except you had to show up to lectures just to do "practice" assignment. TLDR: Easy A, but you're the professor. Only the TAs and your classmates helped you learn
To call her a professor isn't genuine. She leaves all the work to her TA's. Also, class time and office hours are the TA's teaching you, doing worksheets, doing lab worksheets, weekly quizzes, and pre work before every class. You are learning by yourself (unless you have friends). I didn't like her class, but it was easy other than linked lists
There's no actual teaching it's all reverse classroom. Content was very easy to understand as long as you do all the work.
Hands down the worst professor I have had at BU. She wouldn't even stay for our full classes just leaving us with TA's. She was not accessible by email and didn't seem to care about our learning. She also made us by the textbook that she wrote. If possible take another professor.
The grading is fair but she doesnt really teach. You have to teach yourself all of the material and deal with quizzes every week and 2 tests. It was a pretty easy class becase her lectures are well written but the TA's will be your best friend. Its not a hard class just stay on top of all the material becasue it adds up and get a lot of practice.
Professor wasn't helpful, made us learn the material before class in her "flipped learning" style. The TAs didn't care too much so grading was super easy and lenient. The tests were pretty easy and the class was easy too if you put in the effort.
Don't let the good reviews fool you. They're all old, and the new Attaway is a proper 1-star professor. You have to buy her textbook, write code on paper in groups, and teach yourself the entire course content while Stormy is off foraging for mushrooms. If you see her in class, it's a minor miracle. The TAs teach the entire course.
Literally was never there to teach
