SOOO entertaining! and it's clear he loves and cares about his students. but don't DARE miss a single class. he teaches at the rate of lightning - HE COVERS A LOT OF STUFF. excellent prof - engaging with hilarious brit humor!!!

So cute! He invited his classes at a brunch at his beautiful beach house and is so eager to interact with his students. Treated students to coffee at Espresso Roma and the class is really interesting. Do the reading, exams were curved.

The lectures were somewhat disorganized but hes a funny guy to listen to. Reading is pretty much essential as it covers in depth what you will be tested on. For me, lectures served as indicators of what to read more closely in the book. Test are cumulative, multiple choice with take home essays.

His accent makes lectures very enjoyable. He's fun, easy, and makes fun of TAs daily. Tests can be a bit challenging since they are based heavily on readings that he doesn't always cover. Usually the curve makes it pretty easy to do well

great teacher, he would make a perfect british scientist cartoon character. Tests are pretty tough, you need to do the reading (approx 50 pgs per week) to have a fighting chance.

Great Professor. Hilarious+nice+generous. multiple choice exams extremely easy. although readings were a bit long. but materials were pretty basic and straightforward. would certainly help if you took bild 2 b4 this class. should have took this for a letter grade..D'OH!

He has a great sense of humor and even though it was a 3 hour class, he usually ended it at least 20-30 min. early. Do the reading (kinda a lot) and the slides are online. Mult. choice exams, pretty basic if you did the readings and went to class and paid attention. good prof.

His class is very fun and you will learn alot from his lectures but his exams are kind of hard. He has a heavy british accent, i hateded first but i got used to it. His exams are multiple choice. He is very nice, and he helps you alot try hard you will pass

Cool English professor...Very cocky TA... Extremely difficult exams... good thing the class is curved or it would be very difficult to pass...A LOT of material to remember for exams, and the final is cumulative which is not the coolest thing ever.

Professor was overall good. Slides aren't that great to take notes off of, the TA's seem fine to me, never had a problem with them. Appears to re-use previous exams with new questions thrown in here and there. Textbook sucks, too wordy too long too boring, never really read it, you can get far with just going to class and skimming the book

Class was pretty straight forward. If you study then you'll receive a good grade. Pay close attention in class, especially what the Prof. says and what the TA's lecture about. Very meticulous answers to the tests. Know the stuff front and back. First 2 exams(25%) final(50%) only the final is cumulative.Ext. cred/readn very usefull to pass.

This class was hard only because there wasn't much structure between lectures and the book, and the book was boring. Anstis was amusing except for those all the technical difficulties.

He made the three-hour lecture enjoyable. Accent is easy to get used to. Don't need to buy the textbook as exams are almost entirely lecture-based.

Some ppl say that textbook is unnecessary, but you do want the textbook if you want an A in the class. Although most questions are based off of lecture, some things not mentioned in lecture (that are in the textbook) are in the exam. I read the textbook once through before exams and I was fine. If you are just taking it P/NP, don't bother reading.

He made the three hour class bearable with his humor and accent, love him. but i seriously studied twice as hard for this introductory class than I have for my upper div classes. 17 chapters covered on the final??? you've got to be kidding me. and the text is DEFINITELY required. i barely glossed over it on the first midterm and i got screwed.

The class was interesting, TA Kadimah was mean at everyone and she is very bad at responding to questions. It seems to me that the undergraduate TA Mike was doing all the work for this course.

quite a challenging class, I learned quite a bit...much review from Ramachandran's psyc 129. Shai the TA wrote all of the tests DONT take a class with him as a TA, his tests are 50% class material and 50% crap, says one thing will be on the test and tests on another, very unpredictable tests tax your motivation Stuart was great Shai wasnt :( BOOOOO

Anstis is a fantastic professor; he has a great sense of humor which made the 3 hour lectures much less painful. The exams, though, are more difficult than you'd expect for an intro psych class; without the curve, the average in the class was a 60%. Expect to work hard if you want an A. Reading the textbook and attending the lectures is a must.

Fantastic British Professor, A Truly Cambridge University Graduate. I loved his accent and his tests are very fair. The ending class curve is pretty generous. I didn't really study hard and got an A+!

the class is pretty interesting. the lectures were fun but the exams are pretty hard. the teacher doesnt make the exams, his TAs do, and the class averages on both exams was a D. i was hoping to get an ez A and i ended up with a B+ even though i worked pretty hard. be careful if u want an A, because its not as ez as everyone else says it is.

Extremely difficult to get an A. His TA Shay makes the exams and deliberately makes some of the questions impossible. The professor really does nothing but read slides that he didnt even make. Horrble class, horrible structure, if you can avoid, do it.

Anstis himself is fantastic. While its said he is "a true Cambridge University Graduate," etc. on here, he's a really down to earth guy. The course is broad and more in depth than you'd expect. The TAs do make the exams, which can be frustrating because they expect at times truly fantastic levels of detail, citing whole paragraphs, somewhat sadist

This guy is HYSTERICAL...even though it was a 3-hour class, he kept my attention the entire time. However, it's nearly impossible to get an A. I worked my butt off and attended every lecture, and I barely managed to pull off a B. The exams are brutal (and fortunately drastically curved, as a result). Take him if you don't mind not getting an A.

Excellent teacher for an intro psych class. His British accent makes listening easy and enjoyable. His tests however are written completely by the TAs. He has very little to do with the actual grading.

This is a difficult course relative to other PSYC courses because it has both physics and biology mixed into the class. The TAs make the exams so its hard to predict what will be tested. Even so, it is inaccurate to say "getting an A in this course is impossible." - it's graded on a curve! With outside help (eg office hours), it can be easy to get an A... A+ this quarter was only about 1.6 above SD!

Awesome professor. Very funny guy and cool accent. The stereotypical psyc teacher. Mandatory section, but the TAs were nice and they usually only lasted ~30mins. Tests were long and questions were somewhat confusing, but curve is generous. Only problem is that tests contain both lecture (not stuff in book) and book material so you have to read

interesting class. I recommend u go to class because the tests are from the lectures and the book, which is not that fun to read. The class is not that hard but is time consuming because of all the chapter u need to read. The prof is nice and sometimes funny.

Extremely entertaining lecturer. Makes an otherwise extremely boring topic interesting to listen to, and the three-hour classes worth going to. Rachael and Azim were great TAs, made a comprehensive and useful study guide and the tests were very fair. Definitely try to have a class with him!

It is the easiest class I have taken at UCSD. Lectures are on podcast and slides are easy. Professor is very funny and has a great British accent. Class was really fun and easy. I didn't even read the textbook and got an A.

He's very interesting, but the TAs are the ones who write the detailed, multiple choice exams. This professor makes the topics extremely interesting but to get a good grade you have to read the long boring textbook and memorize insignificant details.

Really interesting and engaging lectures. Of course, this would only help if you attend lecture. The exams are written by TAs. When I took it, exams are mostly lecture based with some minor stuff from the book.

Hands down the funniest professor at UCSD. His class is like listening to stand up comedy while learning at the same time! He even invited the entire class to his house for a brunch party. How awesome is that? If you're even remotely interested in psychology you definitely should take this class.

He's not funny, he's not clear, and he's not very engaging. There's really no good way to prepare for the final. The textbook and the lecture notes are hardly related. If you're just taking Psych to fulfill some kind of GE requirement than don't take Anstis' class because I promise you, you won't pay attention.

Three hour lecture sometimes too much. Anstis is a nice guy but goes a little quickly at times and doesn't explain things that well at times. Great use of outside video and media to show real world examples. Understand that it's a hit or miss with this guy.

Stuart is a smart and nice man, but he's not the one who makes/grades the test. You just have to know the materials yourself, because there is practically noone to help you study.

He's a nice guy, but his PSYC1 class is devoid of any intellectually stimulating material. In the last lecture he seriously just presented a series of graphs that he downloaded from Ok Cupid. I feel a bit ripped off. His jokes are pretty lame (and sometimes rac.ist). Tests are made by TAs and involve memorization of useless vocab from textbook.

Never take him as GE especially for P/NP grading system. His class is really tougher than you think because the test is made by the TAs which makes the test really hard.

A good professor, but doesn't really seem to do much other than make jokes during lecture to keep the class awake. The TAs pretty much do all the work. Midterms were pretty easy but require reading the book and some memorizing. Not a bad class since I learned a lot mostly by reading the book.

Stuart didn't even show up for like half of the classes. And his office hours aren't even that helpful because he has no clue what will be on the exam because the TAs write the whole thing.

Anstis was by far the funniest professor I have had at UCSD so far. His accent is amazing and he is hilarious. However, his lectures are not too helpful. I attended one, and then just read the textbook. The midterms are based off the textbook, with some info from lecture. Overall, a good professor, just make sure to study outside of class.

I thought this class was easy G.E, but apparently this was not the case. The average for the first mid-term was 68% and second mid-term was ~70%. I should have taken this class as pass/no-pass. 2 TA made these tests, which were ridiculously difficult and curves were not so generous. Take someone else for PSYCH 1 class.

Hilarious. If you have a good TA you are GOLDEN. His accent is fantastic and his jokes are constant and corny. He's old and just doesnt give any bothers anymore. In a good way.
